What I like the most about your character is that it reveals a side of Michael that we never see with any other character- you are the only one to whom he is consistently mean. There is evidence of Michael's kindness and compassion with every one except you. So, my question for you is: will Holly reveal as much about Michael's character as yours has? And if you can say, what will their dynamic be?

It seemed that the arc of Michael Scott was a focal point of the season, considering how often he stood up for himself this time around. Was this one of the main goals for the season, or just happened as things progressed? How much of a role did you play in writing the character?

I am going to miss what you contributed to The Office but I understand that people have personal decisions that prompt them to move on. I hope you will always have a hand in the show. Maybe we haven't seen the last of Toby yet. One of my favorite shots was the Christmas party where they ran out of fine terry cloth robes so Michael said, "Give him Toby's." All because you make sense in a senseless world. Too funny!

Toby was mine and my husband's favorite character (besides Dwight) - why would he leave? Especially since he's a writer (and Angela's brother-in-law... it's all so cozy). Is he going to be involved with the proposed spinoff?

Just because the character Toby is being written off the show, does that mean Paul Lieberstein will no longer be writing for the show?
If so, this show will loose its popularity.

I really hate to see Toby go!! I was hoping that the relationship with Toby and Michael would be explored more deeply to understand Michael's hate. I know Toby characters mentioned that he was moving to Costa Rica(?) because of the uncomfortableness but why now? Anyway, it is a great loss and I wish you nothing but the best!

although i am a loyal office fan, i am greatly dissapointed with the eppisodes following the writers strike excluding night out and did i stutter. Which were almost as classic as my favorite eppisodes, beach games, traveling salesmen, and a benihana christmass. I am spitting angry that toby is leaving, and along with it the great toby jokes by micheal. I have a feeling that this season finale will be classic.

I really don`t like your character anymore. But, I think Toby is not going to leave and at like the last second of the episode Toby says he is gonna stay or at the premiere of season 5 Toby is there.

toby is a vry deep charater and he has all these bottled emotions and i feel like if the sow exposed his character 2 much there would be no suprise when he revealed something and i was really expecting him to do something jurrastic before he left instead of just put a hand on pam. i though he was going to start stalking pam or do something really serious to break-up jim and pam or attack michael but ow well hes a great actor(not that his character is hard) and an amazing writer

Toby is one of my favorite characters of ANY tv show. The way he puts up with Michael is priceless. I really hope this move is because someone offered you a much higher salary. The show won't be the same without your occasional glances toward the camera and down-on-luck personality. Sheer acting genius. Thanks for the laughs.

I used to really love your character, Toby, but this season he's almost mean! I don't like how he is messing with Jim and Pam; he's coming off as a creep (not smooth, cool, and likable like in previous seasons)

You're humor adds that extra layer of darkness that this show needs. The episode "Money" was one of my favorites! I also think season 4/4.5 is the best season yet. The Dinner Party episode? WOW! Don't let the spin off be about Jim and Pam in Philly or New York or I am going to flip out. The show is not broken so there is no need to fix it. Don't mess with the characters. The show I guarantee you will never be the same if those two leave. I finally found a show I enjoy and watch every week and then the makers mess with it. The reason why Seinfeld was so successful is because they didn't change it. The show is fine so don't mess with it. if there is going to be a spinoff it should be about Ryan in new york and thats it.

I think the show has gotten better since the writer's strike. If you watch the episodes with any sort of intelligence (I know, it sounds funny) then you will see the true humor, the sheer genius of the past few episodes. Melora Hardin and Paul Lieberstein play their roles with such excellence that the viewers actually believe they are Jan and Toby, and they hate the characters now. Before it was just another day at The Office, now...well, I guess we'll have to see...

I agree with the others that Toby's exit is just hype by the writers. I think it's more likely that Ryan loses his position and becomes a low man on the totem pole again. Notice in the night club episode how the website has been a disaster. And no matter how chic the Ryan character tries to be, I see a noodly little temp.

Paul – congrats on being part of such an amazing show and such a landmark in terms of fan access and transparency. I feel the writers of this show have a fanbase that rivals that of the cast. Unprecedented and well deserved.
The Toby/Pam/Jim arc that was introduced last season has really taken off, was this always the direction that this story line was going to take? When did the writers first decide to give Toby these feelings for Pam and did they know how they would evolve at the time? Is this a way to keep tension in the Jim/Pam relationship now that they are together? As a writer and the person who plays Toby, what do you think of the direction the character has taken and how do you feel that it was foreshadowed in previous seasons?

Isn't the New England office supply company W.B. Mason the inspiration/idea for Dunder/Mifflin and Scranton as a setting? It's kind of obvious.....especially since a number of the writers/cast are from new England

Not only that, the Dunder-Mifflin commercial that Michael Scott produced looks like a rip-off of the commercial W.B. Mason currently airs.

Y does Toby have to leave? Someone stated that we hate your character now but loved him before...that's not true I think Toby is still a great character in the "Night Out" episode that jump over the fence after that awkward scene was classic! lol Well I haven't read people's thoughts on what might happen in the season finale but if I could just put my thought...I believe something will obviously happen with Toby,Jim,Pam, AND Ryan! In the last episode with Stanley making a statement we saw Ryan give Jim a verbal warning. Knowing this AND the fact that Toby is HR I believe the season will focus on that. I'm not exactly sure what might happen like if Jim will get fired or somthing but I believe it will have to do with those characters...

You are the best writer on the best written show ever. Office fans first loved Toby and now hate Toby, just as you planned, I’m sure, so that Toby could leave the show. I, and many other fans, think this shortened season is as great as your best, season 2. Dinner Party opened season 4.5 with a bang and it hasn’t let up yet. Seasons 4 and 4.5 are amazing. You have also done an incredible job as Toby and we will miss you. The Forum that you named, Northern Attack, are all in mourning for losing you from their show. Here’s my question and it’s an obvious one: Will you be back on the show, either permanently, or periodically? We would love to see Toby win one eventually.

I also want to mention that as long as the show keeps a mix of humor and heart (and not just in the relationship sense), I won't complain at all. That's what it's really about.

Okay, so first off, let me say that I've loved the new episodes of The Office, with the exception of the Dinner Party episode. I think they've been funny, and they're moving the plot line forward. I have a new prediction for the finale. (though someone already stated somewhat of my idea)Jim WILL propose but that will be near the end of the episode so, we will get Toby `s reaction. I do not have a thought in my mind of what that would be but I know he will react. I have to say I really want Toby to leave now because if there is a situaiton pf Toby getting Jim fired I will NOT have it and I will be very upset. I really thought Toby was easygoing but he is not. I see why his ex wife left him. This show is running out of ideas. The writers used all of the great ideas in seasons 1-3 and before the strike of season 4. i love the office. it is my favorite show. i have watched it since the first season…but……….i think it has already reached its peak .the best is over. it was at its best in seasons 2 and 3. it is now a stressful show to watch. all the characters got soo snippy and where has meredith been? i haven’t seen her in forever. same goes for creed. and what is with jim proposing? i don’t want him and pam to be ENGAGED! that will just make them break up because we all KNOW that they will not get married. then the office would be all awkward! and what about andy and angela? the just dont go (although the madlib was funny!) paul i really think u writer guys should step it up for the 5th season and restore the office to its former glory(the office that was nominated for the best comedy award) i definitely do not want to see my favorite show canceled! o ya and if toby leaves i will cry. toby and michael are sooooooooooooooooo good together. and forget the polar bears, SAVE THE OFFICE!!!!!!

In all honesty I am really gonna miss you on this show. Even though Michael was horrible to you, you were perfect for that particular office. How else is Michael gonna get away with all the crazy sh*t that he does on a day to day basis with a different HR rep. He's not :(. It'll be truly sad to see you go. You can't really compare the seasons to each other. The plot keeps moving forward in unexpected ways. The majority of the time, I enjoy being taken for that ride.

Toby has always been my favorite (crush) character on the show. He is so sweet but still a little bit awkward to make it really cute.

I can say that the office will still be running probably well on its way to more seasons either way, but to lose Paul as an actor; writer; and producer will be pretty devastating to me. Paul plays Toby brilliantly with his subtle humor. I think I screamed "NOo!" when he said he was moving. Then afterwards, I ended up googling as much as I could to see if it was really true.

I guess after the whole Jam (Jim+Pam) romance thing and with him being forward with his feelings of Pam, it's hard to expect him to stay. I just hope "Toby" will make guest appearances.

I have to say my favorite scenes would be when he spent the whole night trying to win the ducky for Pam or when he told Michael that he didn't think it was appropriate to bring children to casino night.

I've really liked Toby until recently. His infatuation with Pam is really getting the better of him. Now, he's feeling her knees and threatening Jim's job! Suddenly I think Michael may have been onto something all along.

My favorite Toby moment: at Phyllis' wedding when his date caught the bouquet and he goes, "Toby!"

The show is dead. There just doesn't seem to be anymore "classic" episodes. Ex. Christmas Season 2, Booze Cruise, Casino Night.

Wow! What has happened to the office. The creativity is gone, the characters we used to like, are getting nasty, and the show is taking an angry, ugly and dark turn. I told my wife the strike was the beginning of the end of the show and it looks like I was right. Cancel it now before you completely destroy it.

The past few episodes have been the funniest I have ever seen, I dont know what you people are taling about , "losing humor" This season has been just as good as the first. Ahh...I really hate to see Toby go, he's such a great understated character and much more complex than viewers give him credit for. It breaks my heart that Pam never realized his feelings for her.

I think though that what I'd really love for a finale is Michael to show a little fondness or respect for Toby, have an episode where they have to go to a sales call together or something. A buddy show, that would be a wonderful send off.

Toby was a decent character and the only reason that he's getting written off is because, more likely than not, the writers are pressured into just getting anything on paper to please the greedy viewer and now the qaulity of the show might be going down a bit. We'll miss you, Paul. With the show no longer set in the office, there must be very little time for you on camera. It's best to abandon ship while there's still a shred of credibility left for the show. This out-of-office crap has to stop; the romances (or Dwight's lack there of) are ruining the humor and quickly putting it at the apex of its drawn out jump over the shark. Save The Office, take it back to the office.

Michale's hatred for Toby and Toby's reaction to it have created some of the most memorable and funny moments in Office history. I really hate to see Toby go. I think season 4 has been awesome!

I have to say that most of the season four episodes sacrificed comedy for drama. And I'll bet that Toby returns in the near future. But I'm looking forward to may 15 too cause its my B-day!

The Office is taking some bold steps this season- or desperate? I miss the old Office. It's getting wacky and a little unbelievable. Many of the characters are starting to show a completely different side of themselves. I'm all for trying new things, going out on a limb in story lines and all that jazz, but lets keep the characters true to themselves! We loved them the way they are, and many of us are starting to feel disconnected with them.

Paul, just wanted to say thanks for making the show what it is. I have to admit that Toby's touching of Pam's thigh was one of the more disturbing and hard to watch moments on The Office. This will probably be answered in the episode, but was Toby's decision to go to Costa Rica comparable to Jim's decision to go on vacation to Australia at the end of Season 2 because he couldn't bear to see Pam get married to Roy? Is Toby's decision to go to Costa Rica because he can't bear to see Pam with anybody else, especially his old friend Jim?

Writing this before the season finale airs I don't know what's going to happen, but I half expect Toby to confess his love to Pam in a way mirroring Jim's confession and for her to completely brush it off because she doesn't love him.

Paul I'm a huge fan, your a great actor. Will we ever see Michael apoligize to Toby? And will Toby ever tell Pam?

The Dundies, The Client, Email Surveillance, Booze Cruise, Dwight's speech, Casino Night, The Convention, Initiation, Diwali, Traveling Salesman, The Negotiation, Women's Apprecition, Beach Games. All of these are somewhat or entirely based on out of the office plot. Do you people who complain about the show not being in the office even watch it?

Is Toby leaving because Paul is going to the spin-off? If that's true, it's terribly disappointing. Sure, it's wonderful because Paul will still be writing for television, but very sad that after only two full seasons, one shortened season, and one very short 6-episode season, the Office team is dismantling. Guess nothing lasts anymore.

Also I believe the show needs to be more in the office itself. I feel like when I am watching the show I laugh and enjoy it but sometimes when a serious part comes up I feel a little on edge sometimes. I worry that this will become the norm when in reality it should be heart felt seriousness not drama. Like in Season one and two with Jim and Pam. It's not broken so there is no need to fix it. I want it to be more like previous seasons or the first half of season four.

I don't think you should go. You need to stay. Plus we need to the old office back with carefree style episodes. Not to much drama. Hopefully this isn't a new trend. Jim and Pam need to be realistic in their relationship, a few arguments, but nothing more than that. They need to stay together. Toby needs to stay. The spinoff should be about Ryan and his life in New York. It needs to be less serious like I said.

I'm so sorry, but part of me has always felt that a really funny season finale would include Toby offing himself...and I don't mean quitting. But I kind of don't want that, since I LOVE Toby. He gets almost no lines, but he's STILL one of my favorite characters.

I just don't believe that Toby's quitting. He's either going to die, or I think he'll fire Pam or Jim.

I know that a lot of people are less than happy with recent episodes, but I like drama with my comedy, and it's nice to see you're not afraid to take yourselves seriously every once in a while.

hey paul/toby- i absolutely love ur character- u are perhaps the most real and relatable person on the cast...although u were a bit creepy in night out. are you going to continue writing for the show? if so, i dont mean to add insult to injury by ur character leaving the show, but please, i miss the old office. these new ones scare me a bit, they are not at all like the first 2 seasons, in which everything was comical and nothing serous other than pams relationship problems was happening. what with michaels breakup, jans melt down, and ryans likely drug problem, things are getting too much like different shows. please, bring back the silly, carefree aspect to the show!! i do beleive that, in toby's absence, things can only get worse...

I would just like to take the time to say Thank You. The office has been a lifesaver to me. My mom died a few months ago, then my uncle in March, then grandma checked out mentally. Now, I am in the middle of finals and on the verge of a nervous breakdown but The Office has been my lifesaver. Seriously. I watch the DVDs, the episodes on Tv and one the Web. Even TBS Tuesdays. I just need to laugh sometimes and this show guarantees a laugh. No matter how many times I seen an episode. The story between Michael and Toby cracks me up. I love it. And the voyeurism Toby has listening to Kelly. Toby did creep me out last night because I LOVE JIM AND PAM but it made me laugh so hard.

And in the chair model episode Pam seemed to have a hesitant expression when Jim mentioned engagement, it also seemed that she made up an excuse to not move in with him.
