bye and thanks!

This was totally painless and fun. All of us who work on the show, which are pretty much the same people as last year with a few additions, love that you all talk about the episodes and characters on-line. A great community has sprung up, it looks like. Thanks for your interest and letting me particpate tonight.

this week

We are beginning to shoot the Christmas episode on Monday and I am really excited that Harold Ramis will be directing it. A few minutes before the blog began, I was in the writers' room going over the script with everyone and he was sitting with us and suggesting some great jokes. So there are lots of cool things to look forward to.

next week's episode

Next week, we are following Michael and Dwight on a trip to the paper industry convention in Philadelphia where they will interact with Jim and the Stamford manager. Michael has some issues with Jim leaving, and Jim is trying to get news of certain individuals who work in Scranton. And Pam goes on a date with someone new.

cool question about the documentary

I don't think all the branches have been filmed all along. I think the docu crew is chasing the story. they probably had to apply to their bosses for extra funding to send the crew to Stamford and follow Jim. But they know that Jim is really important to the show and they will follow him now wherever he goes.

Jim and Pam and their choices

So you think they made the wrong choices? Jim moving to Stamford? What's his deal? Do you think he has told himself to stop being into Pam? Pam could be going in a positive direction. She hasn't been out of a relationship for years. Maybe this will be good for her. I don't think she should have married Roy when he was treating her like that. So I am glad she didn't get married.

myspace

Someone suggested that I have a MySpace page. Man, what do you think I am doing all day over here? This takes a lot of time, running this show, you know. Sheesh!

September 21, 09:40 PM

Pam / Ryan?

That is weird. I read that some people thought Pam might be into Ryan. Not our intention -- just wanted to see her look over at Jim's old desk. It is funny how some unintended things happen when everyone is searching for meaning. In Casino Night, it looked for a second like Jim and Jan were going to get together. But who knows... maybe that gives us ideas.

September 21, 09:36 PM

caSt size

Yes, our cast is getting enormous. I think they're not as large as the characters on the Simpsons, but nearly. I think it is fun to get to know so many personalities. Most shows don't do it for money reasons. Because we overshoot by so much, it is a little bit of a struggle to get on the air, and I hope that means that we are always putting on funny stuff and not just servicing people.

September 21, 09:34 PM

Jim's new sandwich

Someone pointed out that Jim normally eats a ham and cheese sandwich. Look what happened the one day he branched out, got an office with a view of the water and tried tuna for a change. He gets slammed.

September 21, 09:32 PM

changing or keeping it the same

We are balancing a bit with this. I think if we have a choice to make, we are trying to challenge ourselves and take some risks.

September 21, 09:26 PM

catching up

There should be some deleted scenes posted after the west coast airing of the show tonight. Probably about 4 or 5 minutes. I guess if you missed the episode you can get it on itunes tomorrow. The guy sitting in front of Jim in Stamford is Ed Helms. We use him more as we go on. He is extremely funny.

September 21, 09:23 PM

spoilers

Hey there was such a desire to know about what happened between Pam and Jim. It's very cool that there are so many people with such strong curiosity. My own family and friends were after me and I didn't give up a detail. I think that people don't really want to know early -- right? Would anyone have wanted to watch more if we had posted a 2 minute promo of the highlights on the internet before hand?

September 21, 09:20 PM

your comments

Wow. There is such a rush of comments and it appears that you can read each others and respond to each other. I don't think you need me for this debate really. There are too many comments coming in to really have a conversation. I will just post some stuff and you all can keep talking too.

I thought this was a really funny episode myself. The acting that Steve and Oscar did in the kissing scene makes me laugh each time. Did you catch the little muttered "I did it!" that Michael says after he breaks apart? And the thank yous?

September 21, 09:04 PM

tonight's episode

A Scranton/Stamford smackdown? SOmeone asked... stay tuned. I feel like this is only the first episode of the arc -- it will build as we progress.
Also, to those of you freaked out about the choice of a controversial topic -- calm down. We are not running for office -- just picking a real situation where a guy like Michael could get in trouble.
