Brittany's Plateau


Jillian: Brittany has a hormone condition, and there's no real way to treat it on campus so we had to send her to an endocrinologist. When your hormones are out of whack, your whole metabolism is out of whack. It took me awhile to get to the bottom of it, but I finally did it. It's a testosterone imbalance in women that makes them gain weight, and when I finally pieced it together it was a little too late in the game. But now we're able to deal with it professionally with a top doctor at UCLA and she's going to be good.

PCOS...PCOS...PCOS I have it! If you don't then you never heard of it and if you do have it then you quickly learn you are not alone. Britney is Lucky she didn't get as fat as i have before discovering it. You can try as hard as you can to lose weight and it almost seems like you gain it. at 280 i had to see an RE to get pregnant and that is where i really was explained what PCOS was. I loved that DR b/c he never used my weight as an issue against me not having a baby. Thanks to hormone replacement and my Bodybugg i have lost 20lbs in 5 weeks! I too have PCOS, so i completely understand brittany's frustration with the weight loss. i have been overweight my whole life, and have never been able to lose more than just a few lbs no matter how much i excercised and ate right. once i went to the doctor and was diagnosed with PCOS, my doctor put me on metformin, and i have since lost a total of 65 lbs without having to make any lifestyle changes. i have always eaten healthy, that wasn't my problem (i know a lot of people think that just because you are fat, you are lazy and only eat bad food) I'm SO happy for brittany that she was able to find out about this, and start treatment for it. Keep up the good work, and thank you guys so much for this show, it's been an inspiration for myself and a whole lot of other people out there. Thanks!!! :)

After watching Brit have so much trouble lose weight I felt like I was not alone. I have been seeing a trainer for a year and a half. For the first nine months I ran 15 miles a week and saw my trainer for 2x a week and during the summer I saw him 3x a week. I only lost about 15 pounds. I stopped for 2 months and gained it back and have been since seeing him again and still doing everything like before and I have not lost a pound, in fact I have gained. I am checking into the PCOS and having some major blood work done to find out what is wrong with me.

I have the same condition as Brittany. I had my 4th baby 9 months ago still nursing and inspite of exercising and diet I CAN NOT lose this weight. Any suggestions on what to do?

I love this show I never miss it, I love you trainers I think you have heart in what you do. I just wish I could be on the show, as I am over weight, my BMI is 35 sorry my BMI is really 38.7 I know I am killing myself mentally and physically with this weight and to top it all off I smoke so I am so upset with myself. I do not have the willpower to workout or eat right, I just need some help. To tell you the truth you could make a show with just my family as I have 62 in our family and over half of them are overweight. I was thinking of getting the Lap band but wanted to try loosing weight the right way. I truly do love you all and your show.

I had my thyroid removed a little over two years ago now, and I'm still struggling to loose wieght. I have had three children and I never really loss the wieght after my first son was born--I gained 72 lbs during that pregnancy. I am just over 5'7 and wiegh 217, I would really like to get down to atleast 150. I watch what I eat, I exercise daily--at least cardio, and I take my medicine for my thyroid on a regular schedule. What would you suggest to help give me more of a chance to get to my goal wieght?

I, too, have had a lot of problems with my hormones being way out of whack. I never correlated this to my metabolism. Do you think I should talk to my doctor?

Ummmm... WHOAAAAA, what did the last 4 do this week that made them lose all that weight??? I dont understand, i lose a pound and i'm jumping up and down for joy... what gives? what did they do? how many hours a day?? I want to lose 50 lbs, but it's just sooo hard!!! HELP

What advise would you give to someone that's just having a tough time getting started and staying on track?

I am a single mom and have my daughter in taekwon-do three days a week. I have a schedule where I find it difficult to workout because I can't leave her home by herself. Is there anything that you can recommend for me to do when she is in bed sleeping.

I think a ton of people have pcos. With Kelly's miscarriage history, she probably has it too. There really is no cure, my dr has me on birth control pills.

I can't wait to see Brit at the finale if they're figuring out what's wrong with her. She can finally lose what she's been fighting to lose for so long!

sounds like britt has PCOS.. which I have also. Once you are on the meds, it's not so hard to lose weight. I lost almost 100 lbs, but gained it back because i hadn't done the emotional workout. emotionally i'm good now... ready to lose 180 lbs to get to my goal weight.

I started at 422lbs. 6 weeks ago, I am now 384. It is a good start, and I have changed my way of eating. I have bought a treadmill and walk what I can faithfully. I however have a back injury that I had surgery on and still It isn't right. Would I be a candidate for your show?I am in great health otherwise, no high bp, no diabetes nothing.

She will be great--PCOS is a TERRIBLE thing for a woman to hear, not just for weight loss reasons. It's great she has support--it's very hard to lose weight....I would know!

So I eat relatively healthy, but I can only take so much chicken and turkey! I don't like seafood so that's not really an option for me. Is there a cookbook that you guys absolutely love or that you recommend because I need new healthy recipes and there are so many out there that I don't trust! Help me and the thousands of others who are sick of the same food, prepared the same way!
