Characters Based on Real People?
Kitty,
You asked if the characters in the show were based on real people. There are people and incidents that served as a springboard, but everything pretty much became fiction by page 11.
Will the show be on again this week as I missed the all important first five minutes?
By the way, do you really think My Mother the Car was that bad?
I am an aspiring writer who is glad you're still inspired. Thank you for great T.V.
BTW, Aaron, didn't you win the Austin Film Fest's Writers Award a few years ago? I was in the audience, I've been a judge there a couple times (and panelist). It's good fest. Even though I must admit, I've never seen WW, the show was so good tonight, that I may just have to go pick up those DVDs.... And yes, like Kitty, I figured that alot of the characterizations tonight were based on biographical experiences, either of your own or friends of yours. The stories were just too good man. Again, keep it up, keep it fresh. NETWORK meets THE PLAYER meets THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW. Love it!!
Best, David
That wasn't Kitty...that was me! :-) This format is a little confusing, but I think it's fantastic that you guys have made yourselves available. Thanks for doing so!
I'm also at NYU right now studying direction for film and television. THANKYOU for putting something smart on TV. Brilliant I now have something to watch that isn't Hollywood trash. You guys are truly artists!
Hi Guys! You are both amazing at what you do. I cannot think of any other team on TV that continues to amaze me as much as you do. I am a fan of all of Aaron's work back to Sports Night, The American President, etc.
My question is this: Will we get to see a lot more of the Brad Whitford/Matt Perry team in the future? I know tonight's episode was very introductory, but those two have onscreen flair that is unseen for the most part on TV today.
Those two, particularly Brad, are absolutely fantastic comedic actors who can spin back and forth from drama to comedy with such ease. Also, I love the writing style and the directoral styles that you guys work with. I want to particularly thank you for not writing a show that is "bad pornography" for the masses.
Hey; to the both of you Aaron and Thomas , I think, maybe you already had that gut feeling, you've got a winner!!
I enjoyed watching West Wing for many years, and I hope the same for Studio 60. Great cast and writing. Looking forward to Monday Nights. This is a great time period, don't let 'em move it.....chuckie
With respect to the hosts of the Studio 60 show within a show...do you always plan to use real stars like Felicity Huffman. Or do you ever plan to use fictional characters as hosts?
Hi guys,
I have to admit, the hype was very big on this show, and I had not planned to watch it. I actually tuned in by accident (SERIOUSLY) and only got Judd's speech as it was starting to get good. BUT IT HOOKED ME, MAN!! I didn't even know which show it was when I started watching it. Damn, that was good writing, and so much of what he was saying is on the mind of SO MANY AMERICANS EVERY DAY!! So I just had to say, you had me to the very end, it was a great show. I look forward to next week. Keep it up!!!!!
I'm a huge fan of Aaron. Any advice for an aspiring screenwriter?
guys...to see the responses, just be sure to hit refresh on the main page: blog.nbc.com/studio - you'll see lots of remarks already posted.
Aaron,
I know you said WW was not supposed to be a Civics Lesson, but we learned so much - about government, but also what heights of excellence were possible. Do you have some themes you'd still like to explore?
Hi! Aaron, I'm in college right now studying dramatic writing at NYU to be a TV writer and you're my all time favorite writer! Is there I way I can get in contact with you? Such as a fan-mail address or something?? I'd really appreciate it! Thank-you!
And keep writing awesome television!!!!
(I'll probably post this a few times, since this is the only chance I'll get to ask you)
