A Message from Aaron Sorkin
Dear All,
If you're reading this, then there's a pretty good chance you'll be watching the premiere of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip tonight at 10/9c. NBC has asked Tommy Schlamme and I if we'd take some questions during an online chat following the East Coast airing of the show and of course we told the network that assuming there wasn't any action in the Steelers/Jaguars game on ESPN, we'd be happy to.
In the interest of getting to as many questions as possible, I thought I'd provide some answers in advance:
1. That had to be cut for time.
2. You'll see much more of him in Episode 2.
3 That was Tommy's fault.
4. Her hair will be down in Episode 2.
5. Well, it gets better.
We look forward to hearing from you and mostly we hope you enjoy the show.
Best,
Aaron Sorkin
The West Wing offered someting that very few shows offer. There was always that moment, that usually took place at the end of the introduction or at the end of an episode, where the TV viewer would jump up on the edge of the couch, look around the room and say "Wow!"
Elisa and Loraine,
I am ever grateful that you will not be watching this show ever again. I simply cannot abide having to share my brand spanking new fandom with the likes of you.
Aaron and Tommy, thanks for coming back to us. We've missed you!
Elisa,
How tedious.
What a great f***ing show! Sorry, but that's my gut reaction and truest articulation. The writing left me breathless. Congratulations to all.
Finally something good out of NBC! Watch out CBS. We are really liking this show... couldn't go to bed until we finished it. Fresh, and every turn is unexpected. LOVED IT! COME HOME TO NBC!
Hi Aaron,
You are my all-time favorite writer & I'm still not over you leaving WW. (I know - gotta get a life. Hey - just thought of Chris Elliott!) I watch the dvds over and over.
Here are my anal 5th grade teacher pet peeves:
Should be "NBC has asked TS and ME..." (not "and I"). Just take out the "and" & it's easy to figure out whether to use "me" or "I".
Also, please no more, "How ya doin'?" "I'm doin' good." Should be "doin' WELL."
And finally, "I couldn't care less," not "I could care less."
Can get past stuff like driving past National Cathedral to get to the State Dept. Creative license and all.
Is it the teacher in me fighting a hopeless cause? Anyway, best of success to you and your team. You guys are so fortunate to live a creative life. (I'm envious.) Enjoy it!
I knew that I would have to comment on this show... I just couldn't help it. Thank you, Thank you, thank you. My sentiments exactly were verbalized so beautifully in the impromptu monologue that sets off the firestorm. I have been so sick of the rediculous and disgusting reality shows that insult our intelligence and have been longing for a good comedy. I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! I LOVE THE TALENT!!! (both on screen and off) & finally, once again I love NBS oops I mean NBC again. now Monday night is "must see TV" in my house. My 16 year old agreed that this was our new TV night together. We had been truly missing the intelligence that is present with Studio 60 now.
Oh……my…….God! How amazing is this show. “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” is an absolutely captivating show. It is well-paced, high-action, well-written and character-driven. It is in my opinion the best that television has to offer. As a reality programming snob- specifically, if I have watched three complete half- hour reality programs in my life, I’d be surprised- I have been literally starving for a good, adult drama. Studio 60 surpasses my dreams. I cannot wait to see the next episode, and the next one, and the next one. Studio 60 is definitely appointment television for me, and it has been quite some time since I have been able to say that. I cannot fail to mention the ridiculously perfect casting- Matthew Perry, fabulous and Amanda Peet, perfect. Sarah Paulson is, in my opinion, doing her best work, and Steven Weber has definitely stepped up his game. Yet, it’s not the individual work that’s mind blowing, it’s how well these actors work together to pull the audience into Studio 60. I know that most of the lead actors have worked together before on one or more projects and that may be why there is such incredible chemistry- but wow! Thank you for your work, your time and your effort to create a show of this caliber. You have made my day! I hope you repeat the favor for many years to come.
I saw the show by chance, and loved it.
One of the few non HBO show that I've been able to stomach.
Keep it up.

Mr Sorkin, Mr Schlamme,
Thank you so much for the show you've done. The writting is really amazing, I think it's going to make changes on TV. The cast is brilliant. Thank you so much for Matthew,Bradley and Amanda, I wanted to see them work together.
I can't wait to see all the episodes.
One question: Mr Sorkin, since when did you have that script in your mind?
I hope this show will have the future it deserves and go on for several seasons.
I'm so glad Matthew decided to come back, we missed him.
Congratulations!
I'm looking forward to watch all the episodes.
YES,a million times YES!! I watched the show and I was pleased by the courage in television writing, directing, and producing of this show. Anyone on this project took a risk. Thank you NBC and I think I would have given him not only a raise if he stayed on at 54 seconds I would have given him a promotion. In a day and age where most of television is crime drama or reality tv this is a welcome addition to the television scene. Thanks so much.
Who sings that rap song "pushing my party (or is it body) from side to side??" Love it!
I've served this country for 23 years in the army. I have trained and come in contact with thousands of individuals and I know when shows are going to be a hit because of knowing people. This show will be a hit. If you need a consult for a military episode, contact me.
Loved the show! Looking forward to it.
I am glad that Matthew Perry will finally have the chance to show his talent and not be typecast as Chandler forever (although I still love Friends).
DITTO to all the comments that S60 is THE BEST new show! No religious pun intended, but...Thank you God for Aaron Sorkin!
I hope this doesn't show up twice.
Aaron - I had to come here and tell you how brilliant this show was and is. I will be a regular watcher. Thank you for once again treating the viewer as if they have some intelligence. As with other posters, I've been waiting a long time for something this good!
Go buy Three 6 Mafia's "Most Known Unknown" and pick up their next album by Project Pat "Crook by da Book" due in December. Crunchy Black's album "On My Own" comes out tomorrow, Sept. 19.

Aaron-
Thanks from Syracuse for that "Go Orangemen #1!" graffiti! Can't promise anything! I will ask Murphy to pass that one on to Jim. I know a certain college freshman who's got everyone in the suite psyched for the Pilot...and would love to bring his jugband/or Jazz combo/ or funk band to the set...of course hey from Spencer, and congrats from both of us!!
Sports writers, speech writers, comedy writers ... have you got some axe to grind about writers taking center stage? Can’t imagine why.
Seriously though, I’ve missed Sports Night for many years. It will be nice to have it back in a slightly matured version. Having Felicity Huffman as the transitional guest cameo only served to confirm my great expectations.
Hope for my sake and yours that it goes well.
Well, and of course, John Goodman also holds the distinction of having served as the acting president on WW when Bartlett's daughter was kidnapped.
Please give the following actors a cameo:
Annette Benning
John Travolta
Kevin Spacey
John Goodman - Remember "O'Brother where are thou" - he was awesome in that.
And no, I am not their manager just a fan of their acting ability.
loved, loved, loved it... I'll tell all my friends and be adding this one to my TIVO list... great writing, awesome actors, loved the pace and didn't know what was coming next... I'm hooked
DEMOGRAPHICS - Please as writers remember the baby boomers, and seniors....they are the fastest growing demo...large nation agencies are beginning to hunt out content that targets seniors... DO YOU PLAN ON WRITING CONTENT THAT TARGETS AN OLDER DEMO?
Can we expect more Joshua Malina???
What made you go into your respective fields in the entertainment industry
My digital cable says it will be on BRAVO Weds. 11 pm EST...maybe other networks, but at least that time
We're all so glad to see you back. Ridiculously giddily happy, because this means we only have SEVEN days till a new one.
Hi Aaron and Thomas,
A first-rate job on the pilot, from the first shot to the last. The show is inspired, and this confident series opener is pure evidence. I can't wait to pick up backstage at Studio 60 next week.
The question I want to ask are, you must be fans of Saturday Night Live, so how long have you watched the show, and how long has it been since the idea for Studio 60 presented itself? Did anyone at NBC have any misgivings about the pilot hitting too close to home, and is that why there are references to the real NBC in the show, to make a distinction that NBS *isn't* NBC?
any idea where someone that missed the pilot can see it repeated this week? thanks
I have been waiting for this show since last January when I first heard about it, and I was not disappointed at all. After the wonderful characters you brought us in Sports Night and The West Wing, I was really eager to see the next generation of Sorkin/Schlamme players.
I did watch the pilot on NetFlix and I wondered how you guys felt about NBC putting it out there a month before the premier? Do you feel like it helped build the audience or did it make any difference at all?
I was never much of a tv fan...but I got hooked on west wing...and have been excited about this night since I heard about it. does everything you touch turn to gold?
thank you for continuing to entertain your audience as well as challenge them. You all are exactly what american tv needs.
Mr. Sorkin:
Great show!! Actors were perfect, writing was tremendous. Looking forward to watching this every Monday night!
HURRAY!!!!!!!!New York loves Studio 60!!!
Studio 60 was great from top to bottom. Already hooked on the characters and can't wait to see more. With the demise of WEST WING now I have a show to follow. The writing was smart and fun. ALL performances were top notch.......A BIG BIG HIT!
I see a long run and lots of Emmy's..............keep it coming!!!! Any upcoming parts for a wickedly smart and talented NYC character actor in middle age!!!!! I'm soooo there!
Luvvvvvvvvvvd it!
Dear Alan,
Liked the show but did not love it. Here's why. Too cute, too many short quips, like the West Wing, format too similar to the West Wing. Good cast but the acting is too repetitious of Friends, West Wing etc, Come on folks. You can do better. The story line is good and has better potential. However Let's try for some true originality in directing, acting, and in development. Thanks and good wishes. We need more good stuff on nightly shows. Carolyn
Aaron and Tommy,
First off, you need to know this: I don't really watch television. 99.9% of what's on strikes me as either drivel or repulsive. The only thing I watched religiously (pardon the really bad pun, there)? The West Wing. When you guys left, I was extremely distressed. I stuck with it, though, and it will always be my favorite show...unless Studio 60 supercedes it. I loved it. It was fast-paced, witty and draped in an intelligence that is terribly rare these days. The chemistry in the cast is amazing as well, but I knew it would be. After all, how can anything with Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford on the same screen not be? (And by the way, Brad is ridiculously hot. Love the hair, the glasses and all the little quirks.)
Totally hit this one out of the ballpark, and I cannot wait until next week!
Welcome back, you guys. Intelligent TV viewers missed you.
oops cursed sensitive mice!!!! Sorry for the double post!
Managed to read an early draft of the script online, loved it. Saw the pilot through Netflix, fell head over heels in love with it. Just had to see it again on NBC and it got even better. Tommy, Aaron, absolutely amazing job. Best of luck to you on Tuesday morning, on keeping the show going, and on getting Malina - can't wait to see what you'd do with him.
Okay, question: Are we going to see any more of Wes?
Good show overall, I'm looking forward to next week.
I am hoping you put the pilot on iTunes soon. It was really good. My wife and I both liked it and were really excited by the casting. In particular, we were happy to see Nate Cordery and Sarah Paulson in the cast.
The whole thing looks really well put together, and will be fun to watch. It's also nice to see another show with the feeling of Sports Night, a show we both loved and still watch over and over.
So, I just thought I'd give some support and let you know that we like the show. Keep up the good work, and good luck in the ratings.
Yeah, so if you are deleting some negative comments, thank you. I don't think I could bear to hear more people get so tick about the Christian thing...look people, you know why Dana Carvey's Church Lady skit is so funny? Not because it's so far out. Nope, it's because that's the sort of Christian too many people have interacted with. You shouldn't have come to this show expecting a Bible Study. Let's start trying to be a bit less like the Church Lady, a bit more like, well, the nice, Christian people we're supposed to be. Any if you don't like the show, go watch Disney. Oh wait. Is the SBC still boycotting them?
It amuses me to see how people can find the scene between Matt and Harry as Christian bashing at all.
What is demonstrated there is two people with differing "oppinions" not even necessarily faiths because Matt's faith is never touched on. I saw two people who seemed to still have feeling for each having problems getting over "This stupid argument"... and it is. Also to anyone who was listening... Harry got the last word in with that argument. I saw a confident woman who made a choice and stood by it, and her friend/ex-partner who felt just as strongly with his convictions stating them too.
Aaron has provided a very balanced view of an argument as far as I am concerned. I've seen a hell of a lot worse!
Are you guys able to give us some hints on what we can expect to see in the next few episodes?
LOVED IT. Great cast good/thought provoking begining. from South Dakota
Pure genius once again. You guys never miss. Please bring back Wes Mendell. In his fleeting moments, he was amazing, and I could only imagine him working alongside Matt and Danny.
Congratulations on what looks to be another AMAZING show! A lot of similarities to TWW. Was that a conscious choice?
The premier was surprisingly(with so many duds in television, anything good, from anywhere, is a surprise) well done. I agree with the individual who said it was too busy. There was a lot to acomplish in the first episode. If it slows too much we won't like it.
Amanda Peet has a refreshingly strong and witty female character. She pulled it off perfectly. Are there any big changes in the tone as we move into the regular season episodes?
I'm disheartened to see so many comments from Christians who were appalled by what they saw tonight -- especially those who turned off the TV right after Wes' rant and missed your wonderful portrayal of Harriet. Is that a reaction you were anticipating?
(P.S. I adored the show, and can't wait for next week!)
Loved the show. I am a big fan of Mark Goffman--one of the most deft minds in the industry. Having worked with Aaron on West Wing, is he involved in the Studio 60 production?
It's television entertainment at it's best. And although some people won't "get it", I for one who work in the industry am betting that if half the numbers of paparazzi freaks watch this series, you'll have a long run. Keep up the great work.
i LOVED the show! i havent been this excited about a show in a long time, it was absolutely incredible! i can tell this is a show i'm going to become obssessed with :) cant wait to watch the next episode! truly brilliant!
Are you two shocked at the number of positive postings? When I first found this page there were only about 93 posts....now over 220 and growing in just minutes.
WHAT DOES YOUR WEEKLY PRODUCTION SCHEDULE LOOK LIKE? HOW MANY STAFF DOES THE PRODUCTION TAKE?
RUSTY
As a follow-up to the Danny/Matt question, were any of the other characters (Jordan, Jack, Cal, etc) written especially for the actors portraying them?
Thank god for you, Aaron Sorkin.
Show o.k. I'm a Christian. What's your problem with the 700 Club? I haven't watched it in years but it must have really impacted you (negatively). Next week maybe you can add comments about our military.
Off-the-charts brilliant: a gift to the mind and spirit.
I wish all of you could collect and be surrounded by the joy you've created for so many tonight.
Inspired artistry - thank you, thank you, thank you.
And CONGRATULATIONS!
I just wanted to say that I really like the Sorkin/Schlamme team. You guys are great. The West Wing was amazing - and this show already has my vote!
Cheers!
I watched because it's Aaron Sorkin but I expected to be unable to get past "hey, that's Josh, and Chandler and Danny". I was wrong. I think this may become 'must-see' tv for me. I have been missing West Wing desperately, but Studio may well fill the void -- incredible dialogue, superbly delivered, the promise of better things to come...I'm getting the same tingle I felt after Episode 1 of WW...this is gonna be good!
Thanks Mssrs Sorkin and Schlamme -- I'm officially excited!
Too bad only one in a thousand shows takes the time to realize that story arch, characters and dialogue, are what make this medium an art and not commercial for the next episode. In the past fifteen years their only three names in great show writing: Chris Carter, Josh Whedon, and Aaron Sorkin (not in order of personal preference).
Incidently, I don't think you "slammed" Kristin Chenowith for singing on a christian oriented program by the referene in this episode but showed she was being true to her roots as a southern gal and a christian (I say this as a northerner and an agnostic).
Keep up the good work.
Aaron & Tommy,
What a great chance to congratulate you on the new show and what a relief for WW lovers everywhere to have you back!
I'd love to know how you feel that writing for members of the cast who have been on both WW and Studio60 has differed; especially with respect to Josh/Danny.
Thank you both for sharing your brilliant talents! Can't wait to see more!!
Great premiere! With the cinematic style of West Wing and a comedic edge sharper and funnier than SNL, I look forward to watching future episodes (and I only watch a couple shows each week). Loved Perry's sharp wit and self-deprecating jabs at pain-killer abuse - he executes it all so well. Cheers!!!
I enjoyed the pilot. I sure it will just get better and better. I am curious as to the reuse of main character names. Every time someone said Danny I keep expecting to see Tim Busfield and waiting for CJ to walk on camera. Bradley Whitford's character needed a different first name. It will take awhile for me to unassociate the name with CJ, Danny and West Wing.
Was it difficult timing the last sequence? My friends and I thought that the use of 'Under Pressure' was the best part of the episode.
Great beginning, Aaron and Tommy.
Will you continue to have cameos for the guest hosts and musical acts? Or will it be more of a just before/just after the show within the show?
So, you really meant this would be a live chat after the "Steelers/Jaguar game" not after the show..??? LoL
I have missed the West Wing and its jabs at the right-wing direction of our nation.
After tonight I will definitely be watching Studio 60 - hope that you continue having shows not only welll written and clever but also dealing with issues that mean something. Judd Hersch's tirade was terrific - most of television today is not worth watching - worse, it isn't even honest. Thanks and keep up the good work.
I've been rewatching Sports Night and The West Wing DVDs since Season 4 of WW ended, so, I guess I'm wondering if we can expect to see the return of the Walk and Talk? I loved the show! Thanks for the intelligence and, y'know, all that other stuff you do . . .
I've never been moved enough to take the trouble to write in about a show...but this is by far the best show I've seen on television in years. Fantastic writing, great characters, great story...and a permanent place on my Monday night viewing schedule and DVR...congratulations!
Great Cast! - the only reason I watched. Kept looking for a reason to be excited about it (other than the cast). Overall I don't see what the hype was about. Not very funny, Mildly entertaining. Another one of those 'in your face, liberal mindset, tell everybody why they're stupid if they don't agree with you' shows. I'm sure it takes a lot of thought to make a TV show, about what goes on behind a TV show. Sorry guys, don't thinks I'll make the mistake of watching again.
I would like to thank you for writing in a "normal" Christian character :)
I have been reading some of the postings by those who feel like you are "picking" on us ....are you kidding me? Um hello ...Pat Robertson IS an idiot :) AND we do swear AND we can be funny and snarky! As a friend of mine pointed out, "...he tends to write religious people and conservatives better than they write themselves." Thanks! WELCOME BACK GUYS!
How awesome are you guys? Can you give me some sort of quantifiable level?
(Fantastic work and I eagerly anticipate the next episode!)
Gentlemen;
Thank God you are back providing us with quality again.
I too was an "never miss" fan of West Wing...I've had withdrawal symptoms forever...until tonight...thank you, thank you...smart, sophisticated and fun to watch...you guys are back and I love it.
Hi! Aaron, I'm in college right now studying dramatic writing at NYU to be a TV writer and you're my all time favorite writer! Is there I way I can get in contact with you? Such as a fan-mail address or something?? I'd really appreciate it! Thank-you!
And keep writing awesome television!!!!
(I'll probably post this a few times, since this is the only chance I'll get to ask you)
After being a die hard TWW fan (especially the first four years) I thought I'd have trouble seeing Bradley Whitford as anything but Josh Lyman. Then I remembered Matthew Perry's guest spot on TWW and realized they were probably going to be better than I imagined. I was SO wrong!! They weren't better than I imagined - they were phenomenal!! The show tonite was absolutely amazing. It was smart, funny, fast paced and quick witted. I loved the show, I loved the banter, I loved the walk and talk. Can't wait to see episode 2!
Aaron, One more Question. Do you, the cast, or the show have Myspace pages. I would love to jump on board to get any ne info on the show!
Awesome show! I have missed Matthew Perry for so long, it's great to have him back.
Well, I'm NOT a Christian (Agnostic Jew!), but I think it's really cool how you bring religion (including ones that aren't your own) into your shows. I have no real interest in or knowledge of Catholicism, but I really respected how important Bartlet's faith was to him and I just generally find it interesting that you really acknowledge religion in ways that other shows dont. Even the preachy shows. And you do it without being preachy.
And as a note for Tommy - I was just reminded the other day how much I loved Jack and Bobby, and I wish that show had had a better chance. Good for you for making quality television wherever you go.
Amazing! I was a fan of West Wing from the beginning to the end. The banter between Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford was great! I really like Amanda Peete as the "boss" so to speak, but she (thankfully) didn't have a chip on her shoulder about being around so many men. It was fresh and honest. Great job! My husband and set our Tivo tonight and will never miss it!
Apparently Thin Lizzy was right, the boys ARE back in town. Well crafted, excellent writing, great pacing. We missed you two working together. Now, if you can use your special powers to get a guest arc from Sabrina and Josh, we old timers can die happy-
Thanks again!
I thought this was interactive and that you would be answering the questions but all I see are comments. Praising comments, which I agree with, but no reply from the two of you.
Am I looking in wrong place for your replies?
I haven't been this excited about watching a new show since West Wing premiered. I just sat open mouthed, wondering why more of television can't be this intelligent. Excellent, I laughed out loud more and more as the show got rolling.
Thank you Mr. Sorkin & NBC!
FANTASTIC!
Aaron Sorkin hits it out of the park again. The writing is crisp, smart, and the acting is impeccable. Kudos to Bradley Whitford, Matthew Perry, and Amanda Peet for literally setting the screen on fire.
Thank you...and keep up the good work.
You guys are taking off the negative emails the minute they hit. Do not make them any less true.
Hi! Aaron, I'm in college right now studying dramatic writing at NYU to be a TV writer and you're my all time favorite writer! Is there I way I can get in contact with you? Such as a fan-mail address or something?? I'd really appreciate it! Thank-you!

Grand Slam! I was sucked in and didn't budge the entire show. Wonderful fresh new show with some definite longevity!!! Loved it and won't miss it as it airs and will buy the DVD's by season...year after incredible year!! Thanks again!!
Just watched it. I'm one of those referred to who "have nothing but their faith." What a touching portrayal of a sympathetic bitch.
I'm fed up with your (being NBC and generally the whole of popular culture that
essentially says nothing's sacred except what sells) knee-jerk stereotypes of Christians.
The show is right on with its self assessment of tv. TV is trash. I watch less and less of it all the time, and, after giving Studio 60 a look tonight, I'll be watching even less.
This show was amazing. I watched it a screening, and I had to watch it again. Thank you very much for making an amazing show. It has hit written all over it!
After 11 years clean and straight, I would love to know what it was that made Danny fall down on his long weekend. Will we be finding this out soon, if at all?
(Was it because of a woman? Or a man?)
Oh, guys, it was lovely. I spent the entire time with a big grin on my face.
And Snuffy's doing the music!! Awesome! I look forward to some good stuff there (I'm a music teacher, I adore good music on television, and he SO qualifies)
Can't wait for more . . .
I have been waiting---for you guys to write together----thank you----for bringing out the Truth...that is all we ever ask for---the balance between religion and politics.
You guys are the best in television.
The staffj---perfect.
Thank you.
Up there with West Wing. Awesome can't wait for next week. Great Characters Weber makes a great prick. The entire show was great. Bradley and Perry seem to be a great combo. Lets see if you can win more awards with this than West Wing, there is the challenge.
What Sarah said at 11:01 except I watched all of it and I REALLY like the concept and the acting is great. (Matthew Perry is my favorite!!) Can't we leave the Christian bashing out?!?
Please, give us content without trash. I know you can do it. (Start by getting rid of Ed Asner)
Thanks.
I loved the show. I was a huge West Wing fan. I love the little pieces of the West Wing that you have incorporated into this show, like the little "chapter" titles, and keeping Snuffy Walden doing the music. Great show.
How much freedom are the NBC "suits" giving you, content-wise? Was there some kind of understanding about that when you signed up for this gig?
SO glad to have you back!!
I hardly ever watch series shows until I can get them on Netflix but this is one show I will certainly look forward to each week. Admittedly, I tuned in for MP and a shot at an intelligent laugh (I've been told I would have loved WW but have never seen a single episode) but Amanda Peet, the guy form Barney Miller and whoever the blond guy is, they're all brilliant. Hope you are able to maintain the momentum. As a writer, I'm already analyzing it as visual literature.
Oh, the joy of real tv! Reality TV without a tribal counsel! How can you not love this cast? Love the new actress who plays the Christian ex-girlfriend and Matt Perry is a surprisingly equal match for Bradley Whitford. Amanda Peet is just pure gold! How ball-sy can you get?
Studio 60 is like watching the West Wing on the set of Saturday Night Live~Amanda Peet is Martin Sheen. Aaron Sorkin gives us an intelligent and entertaining show. He is a genius.
That was great! Makes me sorry I didn't watch West Wing from the beginning instead of from that fabulous final episode. This goes on my 'must' list.
Just one question. How real is that?
Well, I am sure in the hell hooked!!!...Fast paced but a definite storyline that I could follow...Great bantering lines...Two guys that I previously would have thought unusual to team but what chemistry...Excellent cameos of celebrities and appropriate in their roles...I hope you entertain cameoes of other celebrities...Looking forward to next Monday to learn what "Christian" scene was cut...And the new "President" - feminine, knows her business but yet nicely tough...Dave Tucker (Tuck) tuck1939@sbcglobal.net
Outstanding! Kind of reminds me of Sports Night, although this has so much more potentioal. That show didn't get the chance it deserves, this one I pray will. I am a sports nut and I didn't go to the football game once. Can't say I will do that when the Bengals are on but have me for now on. I used to love CSI Miami but this show will cut me down to just the original on Thursday. Thank you for a great show. The cast is incredible and I look forward to alot of fun!
Worth the wait - maybe it will help me with my West Wing withdrawl.
Great Cast! What a pleasant surprise to see Judd Hirsch and Ed Asner - two of my all-time favorites. And I've been hunting for Donna Murphy appearances for years. She had a small role in the premiere -USE her! She's one of the most appealing actresses I've seen. Loved the show - esp. the Judd Hirsch doing his Network meltdown at the beginning and the Aaron Sorkin quick wit repartees -- reminds me of the first and second season West Wings. I hope you'll continue to be as daring throughout the season - keep knocking the papp of most primetime tv shows, while giving us an intelligent and witty alternative. You have the power to influence the entertainment industry both by commenting on it and showing us what superb television can be. We're counting on you! Kudos by the thousand.
I had extremely high expectations going into this, because I knew that I couldn't expect anything less than amazing from the brilliant people who gave us The West Wing. However, Studio 60 was about a hundred times better than I ever could have expected. Thanks to Aaron Sorkin, Thomas Schlamme, Bradley Whitford, Matthew Perry, and everyone else for this perfect beginning of what I know will be a great show. I can't wait to see more.
Aaron, Great Job AGAIN! I was a big fan of West Wing and now of Studio 60. Love your work. Keep this one going. You have another hit!
Thank you, I truly enjoyed this new, fresh show and didn't even flip to watch my favorite CSI - Miami. The cast works well together and there's some great chemistry so far. I am optimistic about the future.
LOVED IT! I know that it was the first episode but sometimes a viewer gets bored, well that was not the case at all tonight!!! It was great and interesting to get a sneak peek of what it may be like behind the scenes of popular TV. I'm definitely looking forward to watch next week and hopefully for a few years!
Thanks NBC, job well done!
Great show! I'm a Christian in Texas and I love how the Harriet character is written. So far she seems more like the Christians I hang out with than the stereotypes that TV likes to portray. There are real Christians out here who realize that neither political party has all of our best interests in mind.
Studio 60,
F-in' great, totally awsome job. The best show on air today. I've been a stagehand since '96 and you guys have captured the reality of what it's like to be there. I love it. Keep up the good work.
Thanx,
Ray
My sister and I watched the show together. We both loved your new show and were both big fans of West Wing. We did however, have problems understanding some of the words. The background noise/msuic was a little too loud, we actually had to turn on the closed captioning to catch everything. Thanks.
Loved the show, took me back stage, very well done. But, just like the WEST WING the cast talks too fast, very hard to follow for your SR. audience, 50-75; Keep it up but slow it down a milisecond.
You're back, Baby!! Couldn't take my eyes off the show even though it's a big night for sports (intentionally dodged pun). Great mix of styles of Sports Night and WW.
Did you ever wish you could have had an hour for Sports Night? Always seemed cramped ...
Terrific show! Talented cast! Thanks for producing something worth spending an hour of our time on each week. I'm looking forward to next Monday night. Keep up the good work.
LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT!!!! I am a big Perry fan. I love every character... and I absolutely LOVE Perry's! Great job Matt! =D
Well, Well, Well.....here we go with another blockbuster TV show....get space cleared in the trophy cabinet. The show met my demographics perfectly! Great Job...
Rusty
Aaron & Tommy,
Thank you for an entertaining hour. Can't wait until next week. Also thank you for your portrayal of the Christian church. I was not offended by it at all.
Keep making the smart whitty televison like you always have.
Question, what was the genesis of Studio 60? Where did the idea come from?
Thank you for the "Network" reference, and the following mea culpa.
This was a terrific show. I watch very little network shows, but this one is great. I can stop griveing for West Wing ( but the first years were the best).. Please do not leave this show after three years. I loved it and I am an older viewer. Not ancient, but older.
I watched 2 mins of the show and hated it. I thought it was going to be entertaining and fun, not a venue for NBC to bash those who still want to watch decent television shows. I enjoy many different types of shows but was disgusted by this attack on christians. Though veiled by the term "reglious", I still got the slam you intended for mainstream christians. I turned off the TV and decided to voice my opinions here. I enjoyed Deal or No Deal earlier this evening very much, but have chosen as a result of Studio 60 to no longer support NBC programing until the show is off the air. My one choice may not mean anything to NBC, but it is a stance I am going to take. There are many shows on NBC I enjoy watching like ER, Law and Order SVU, Deal or No Deal, The Biggest Loser and several others, but I can survive without them.
It is so good to have Aaron and Tommy back. Again, good television. Congrats and let's hope the run is as long at TWW
This was everthing I expected from the 2 of you & more.
The combination of Matthew Perry & Bradley Whitford is just amazing. You guys are good together!!!!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!!!
I know this one is going to be the hit of the season. Keep it real!!!!
thank god there is now something to watch for those of us with an IQ higher than 50 - the show was fabulous - absolutely loved it !!!
Zounds!! I want to hear the 53 second speech again---hmm, perhaps billboards placed around the country.
You are fabulous--I feel as though I finally have a voice!
Bravo to you and the writers, cast and crew. Can't wait until the replay.
Wow - The program is terrific but somehow reminds me of the SNL story from the drug use to the firing/hiring story line. Is SNL the inspiration?
I wish you much luck and hope you can continue with the program. There is a fine line between making real and lasting comments on TV and pop culture and making just another behind the scenes pop culture program. I have a feeling that if you guys leave the latter will prevail.
I really enjoyed the walk and talks of Sports Night and the West Wing, will that kind of writing return here?
Well, Well, Well.....here we go with another blockbuster TV show....get space cleared in the trophy cabinet. The show met my demographic perfectly! Great Job...
Rusty
It's been too long - welcome back! (Its like you never left).
Any chance any more ww alumni will quest star on the show? Like perhaps Allison Janney plaing Cal's really tall wife. :) By the way amazing work. Thanks for rasing the bar
Hey-good luck keeping up with this thread guys.
Liked the show and I am looking forward to the upcoming shows.
So, how many cigerettes were consumed during the viewing of the epsisode?
Oh and why is the east coast feed so dark? Turn some lights on! (just kidding)
What's the deal with that obnoxiously intrusive new network bug? Could it be any closer to the center of the screen?
Maybe it would've been better to debut it on Kidnapped instead of a show where a main character is already criticizing the stupid network bug.
Not your fault, of course, Aaron and Tommy! The show was spectacular, just as we knew it would be. I think it presented an elegantly non-partisan view of the Matt/Harriet fight. And an elegantly one-sided view of how bad TV is these days. Thanks for speaking up, and thanks even more for helping to fix it!
I really enjoyed the walk and talks of Sports Night and the West Wing, will that kind of writing return here?
LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I waited all summer for the show to air tonight and wasn't disappointed. Very witty, fast paced and so truthful! Yea Aaron Sorkin!
I loved the West Wing and am so glad Studio 60 here for us to enjoy. I love that Matthew Perry is back!
Aaron -- What are your writing habits? Do you sit down and write for a set number of hours per day, or do you write whenever inspired?
There are absolutely no shows out there that are worth my time on American television. Thank you for finally bring hope for change in the entertainment industry. Congratulations sir on one hell of a great show.
Our entire family watched this premiere as we did Sports Night and West Wing. BRAVO - the fresh fast and fun writing is a welcome change from banal tv!! Congratulations.
I was really looking forward to show but ALMOSt turned off before first commercial because the NBC logo - which used to anny me when it was in lower right corner - was almost in the MIDDLE of the left side of the picture! Will this happen every week? I hope not. It is VERY VERY annoying and distracts from the story.
What a great way to start off the New Year: an intelligent show to look forward to every week. Mazel tov!
couldn't take my eyes off a scene. Def makes up for West Wing kicking off the air. Nice job guys.
Now that Tommy has "set the style" as on TWW, how often will he be directing, and how often will others, such as Tim Busfield, be behind the camera?
Now, if only tbe rest of television could be as good as this...
Hey Guys
Congratulations!
And we appreciated the biographical and prophetic references to your own career with NBC.
Welcome Back! and Thank You!
Great show. Thank you, thank
you, thank you.
WOW! I'm not much of an NBC fan by normal standards, but I've got to say I'M IMPRESSED! Funny & interesting...can't wait til next week. I was just flipping channels and happened upon it by the way. Keep that Christian stuff coming...I'm proud to proclaim my salvation and promise not to be offended. Afterall, if you get it wrong I'll be in touch...promise!
The only prime time I ever watch is Law and Order. You have a keeper. Smart, fast, tight, funny. Actors are pros. I'm already hooked. One suggestion -- Amanda Peet's dialogue is difficult to hear. Never thought I'd see this kind of class on prime time. Thanks.
Who can I call? Who do I write to? This show is a keeper. This is the only show that can hold a candle to West Wing. It's wickedly smart. And that's in all too short supply on the tube today. Aaron you've struck gold again. Keep up the great work.
Just wanted to say thank you so much for this show. Finally, a sitcom that's witty, smart, and watchable! I hope this is the return of the funny AND dramatic sitcom. Congrats!
Great show. Powerful writing and strong characters - finally NBC is on the return! Keep up the terrific work, Mr. Sorkin and Co.
Well, I am sure in the hell hooked!!!...Fast paced but yet a story line that I could follow...Excellent bantering...Unusual combination of two guys but what chemistry!!! I am very anxious to see how the show opens next week since the "Christian" scene was cut!!!...The cameos were outstanding and appropriate...I hope you include cameos of many celebrities throughout the show...Dave Tucker (Tuck) tuck1939@sbcglobal.net
JUST in the nick ... a reason to watch network tv again. You guys are brilliant. Judd's speech gave me chills. Loved seeing some of the true actors in there, like Ed Asner, too. Congratulations.
Excellent series premiere! I love the fast-paced dialogue and the relevant cultural references. It is so good to have the Sorkin/Schlamme creative genius showcased in primetime once again.
I've never written to a show before but, I just HAD to get online and tell you that I'm so glad such a smart show has come to t.v. I enjoy the West Wing and I am so glad to see such a show join the Monday night line up. I haven't watched much Prime Time lately but, there is finally a reason to turn it on!!
oh who really cares what we all have to say...
but thank you. you always get it right - you remember to keep the 'heart' in your writing/shows.
thanks for that.
Studio 60 is brilliant! Inspired and irreverant and something any media junkie will just devour. I loved every second, from the intro to the music to the dialogue to the fact that you mixed "now" talent with talent from the 80's (i.e. Timothy Busfield). Thank you NBC. I know you've struggled as of late but Studio 60 may just be your golden ticket! Yay!
Great start for a show I've been anticipating since the May upfronts. No questions yet though as a fledgling screenwriter myself I will kick myself if I don't think of something soon!
My hats off to you - amazing, lived up to all of my expectations. I did notice that the dialogue at times seemed to get lost in the background noise... smart witty banter that I am certain I would have loved to hear - Robert Altman makes it an art form, but I know your writing is so great I wanted to hear every word.
Loved the show! It's been a long time since a scripted show made me excited for the next episode. I'll be watching for sure!
Wow. Smart and funny. Loved it. Can't wait for more. Even here in the buckle of the bible belt, we got the feed. Bring it on.
Wow - I'm totally hooked. I haven't watched NBC on a day other than Thursday in about six years. Great job - keep it up!
I assume I am older than the demographic you are looking for, but I consider myself a discerning viewer. I enjoyed the pace and the writing, but I REALLY had problems in the sound balance when it seemed the MTV almost completely demolished the dialog. I caught every 3 or 4 words and had to lip read to catch a lot of what happened when you had the background blaring through the conversations.
spectacular! just killing man. beautiful...
ok - this is set up for questions, eh? here's the 1st one that came to my mind when i came across this "blog" - are we gonna get to see the skit "Crazy Christians?" by the way, great job w/ the full on acknowledgement of all the Network influence/inspiration. again, can't say it enough, great stuff man. thanks.
Well done, gentlemen. Finally, something intelligent, witty, entertaining and even mildly believable to watch... and on a Monday night, no less!!! Please don't get cancelled! A thousand thanks you's!
This is shaping up to be Sportsnight Part Deux. It has been well worth the wait!
Great to have you back. And great to have a fresh new show to console us for the end of WW.
But (like WW when it first began), why so few prominent female characters?
Very stoked about the new show! Congratulations! Amanda Peet looks great, hair up or down. Thought the chemistry between Brad and Matt in their first WW meeting was great. Now, just find room for Janel Maloney!!
From one Wisconsinite to another, great to see your name back in the credits!
J
Mr. Sorkin,
After you left The West Wing, primetime just wasn't the same. I can't tell you how happy I am to have you writing and producing again! I've been looking forward to this for a long time and tonight definitely was worth the wait.
All I can say is: Awesome and Thank You.
believe me, nbc removed any comments that were not positive that is sad. so i guess everything should be positive.
First show in a long time I was willing to sit through commercials to watch live!!!
Funny, smart and addicting!! Can't wait for next week!!
The only problem with it was the background music and noise was too loud, I could not hear the cast talking.
The first show in FOREVER that I am really excited about!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I LOVE THE TONE!!!!
This is the best dialogue I've heard since Sports Night.
Great first show! Cant wait to see more! The filming, style and writing was fantastic!
Hey!!!What a GREAT show...finally and again excellant writing Mr Sorkin and staff. Its so great to laugh at smart dialogue and smart funnies, from the best...Mat Perry and Brad. Thank you Thank you!
cant wait for more..keep it edgy and quirky and funny
That was great! Makes me wish I'd watched The West Wing from the beginning instead of from the final episode. This one is on my permanent 'must' list.
One question. How real is that?
Thank you for a female role model working woman can look up to. I hope I learn to be as fierce as Amanda Peet. Great show, looking forward to the season.
So excited to see this duo back at it again. What a great show and stellar cast. I love Bradley! Seems like he and Matt Perry make an excellent duo as well. I will be making sure my fellow Canadian friends tune in for this one. Nice to have that wit back again. Thank you Sorkin.
Loved the show, and it usually takes me a few episodes to warm up to a new show. Looking forward to a season of appt tv.
It's good to see Timothy Busfield in this role. I always enjoy his characters.
Mr. Sorkin and Mr. Schlamme,
I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed the premiere of the show tonight. I like the similarities to the West Wing, but the show is also quite different. The last 10 minutes of the episode were great.
As a high school student interested in TV production, do you have any advice for college or ideas to help learn and get experience?
Good show.
Hi, great show as always. I don't know if this is where we asked question. If someone would direct me to the spot.
If this is it, here's my question. Being a woman in comedy myself do you plan on facing the issue of woman in comedy -- especially the writers room mostly known as a "boys clubs" even still today.
Thank you Jesus!
Finally TV is back, I have waited for so long for a Sorkin/Schlamme reunion. It was a gorgeous show w/ fantastic writing. Thank you NBC and thank you Misters Sorking and Schlamme.
I first watched this episode this morning on AOL.com. Loved it. Couldn't wait til tonight, to see what I might have missed.
This show had me from the start. Great cast, smart writing, and the characters are believable. I work with people like this every day, from the standards guy down to the director who's a recovering addict.
Best of luck. I think you've got something here.
Loved the West Wing . . . Love this!
HIT!
Wayne
Best show I've seen in a long time, on any network. Finally, an island of cutting edge television in a sea of complete and utter crap. Thank you - please keep it this good (or better) and keep it on the air!!!
Mr. Sorkin,
You have done it again, another smash hit. So glad you are back cant wait for next monday.
This is the best show I've seen premier in years. I'm hooked.
Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm hooked!!! Fantastic show and I can't wait for the next episode. (Will this one be repeated for those who missed it?)
all the commercial previews looked awful and based on the previews i thought wow thisi show is really going to suck. but i guess this just means your stuff doesn't excerpt very well because i just watched the show and thought it was good.
hope it gets better.
The first show in four years that I will record and be sure to watch. Smart writing. The red states will probably hate it.
Dear all:
The show is great. Looking forward to the next show.
I am sure you will have greate ratings. Congrants!
Loved it!!! Fresh and intriguing.
I Love the show! Great cast, great pilot! I think this is a keeper for NBC!
This show gives something that TV has been missing for a while.
I look forward to this season!
Finally! Something worth watching on TV! Thank you!!!
How did you conceive the idea for "Studio 60" and is it based on actually behind-the-scenes events on real-life late night comedy shows?
GREAT!!!! who knew an one hour show could be so great, with out suspects and forensics. Perfect casting and great presents. I cant wait for the next one...and the one after that. well good luck hope everyones loves it as much as me, im sure they will....
Loved it.
Great Job.
Something good is back on NBC!
How upset is Lorne Michaels? have you spoken to the guy?
Hey I was taught that the thing that should distinguish Christians from all others is that they are offended by nothing. What's up with that?
This is a comedy. I suspect that what is going to be refreshing about this show is that there will be a "good" Christian for the world to see. At least that is my hope, Mr Sorkin.
Brilliant!!! Best Premiere since West Wing! Witty, funny. Perry and Whitford better chemistry than Martin & Lewis (no I'm not french and I out grew them by 10) This is going to be the Rat Pack of television. Keep it up and I'll keep watching.
I was a friends fan and almost died when it went off air...but...i think i am already a Studio 60 fan! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
Opening scene was excellent! Nice to see some adult dialogue on our regular channels. Congrats to the Casting Company - wonderful choices. Is this loosely based on SNL?
Go Colts!
I definitely see why you keep your actors with you when you go start new shows... I can't wait until you bring Joshua Malina into "Studio".
The show was awesome. I know where I will be every Monday night at 10:00 PM EST. The actors you chose are perfect.
Thanks for putting something worth watching.
Just watched Studio 60. It is so great all around! Congrats to the entire cast and crew. Thanks for a great hour.
Genius! I love all the actors/actresses in the show. Perfect chemistry and banter. The script is amazing. Kudos to the people who wrote it and the people who deliver it flawlessly!
Wow...I've been waiting for this show ever since The West Wing went off the air (sadly) and it was worth the wait. I've got something to do on Monday nights now. Thanks for the new show!!
-Caitlin
congrats. i was waiting for it, and here it is. the new show to see this season.
just a few questions:
how did you come up with the idea? someone pitched it to you?
how long have you been working on it for?
did you get all the stars you were hoping for?
thanks
WOW! What a GREAT SHOW!!!
Top notch style, dialogue, acting, pacing, etc.
Can't wait for next week!
This show is unbelievably good. The BEST writing on tv is once again credited to Aaron Sorkin. Loved West Wing and I think I'm going to love Studio 60 even more. BRAVO NBC!!! Finally great tv is back!!!!
Mr. Sorkin,
Forget the "Monday Morning Critics", and those 'searching for a job'...
Stay true to the path you've set forth and continue to deliver the 'goods' ..... I'm VERY impressed and will make this a regular habit (and tell everyone this is the 'new hit' of the season!!)
Change NOTHING..continue to build the characters!! .... and I LOVE all the all-star cameos!! (p.s. If you can keep Judd Hirsch around, all the better...one of the BEST actors around!!)
Do you think a lot of the audience didn't know the Network connection?
Will there be Sorkinisms every episode?
How many writers are on staff?
What do you feel more under pressure to deliver - Quality or Ratings?
Congrats to you both on an amazing show! I'll hang around if I think of a question, but I just wanted to welcome you and Tommy back and add my praise! What a great start to the fall tv season.
I'm sorry that some people were having trouble with the sound and the...logo apparantly. They were all fine over here.
just saw the preview for next week- !!!
Shoe Money (Tonight!)
I'm so glad to have the Sorkin/Schlamme power couple back!
Great show! Could not take my eyes off it. Smart TV is back.
i just wanted to say this premiere was amazing. this is a great new show and hope it keeps going as great as it started.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!!!!!!!! I would try watching ANYTHING that had Matthew Perry in it but this show has FAR exceeded my expectations! I will be a faithful viewer! Thanks for this show and for putting all of these amazingly talented actors together!
Thank you! Once again Aaron Sorkin hits a homerun!
I am so excited for this show and can't wait to see it again next week. Best new 1hr program on tv. Can't lose with Matthew and Bradley! THUMBS UP!!
This show would be good except, Mr. Sorkin you must get rid of the distractingly bad Amanda Peet. The poor girl cannot act and it is jarringly disruptive. Please hire someone who can act like Lily Taylor. Really, this show will bomb if you keep Peet. Everyone else is good though.
first of all thank GOD we got a new show from Aaron and Tommy immediately as i would have had withdrawl, and i wanted to ask specifically to Aaron if you will be bringing us the same brilliance with "studio" that we saw with west wing. Also i am glad you brought Bradley Whitford into "studio", and wondered if we would see more west wing and sports night(yes i watched it and loved it, was sorry to see it go) cast members on studio?
Amazing show! Keep up the great work.. I'll be watching every week.
Bravo, gentlemen! Here's hoping you can keep making points about popular culture and the media's shortcomings while still bringing the funny. Can't wait to see what the Big Three can do comedy-wise on the show-within-the-show!
Thank you and NBC for making sure there's still smart TV on the air.
And when can we hope to see Josh Malina? :)
I will say this - cause no one else seems to have...
Aaron I know your... um... relationship with this medium has in the past at times been a rocky one... and certain 'comments' have raised some internet hackles, I don't think have been unfounded.
Some of us may be a bunch of freak, geeks and nerds (my selfconfessed self here)... but your shows tickle our funnybone and raise awareness like nothing else... I wish all TV was like this...
To put yourself on the line like this takes moxie... and I doff my cap to you sir! Class act... Well done...
...I have no words. This is the funniest, smartest, most amazing show since The West Wing.
One question - Where's Josh Malina? ;)
I REALLY wanted to watch this show because of Perry and Peet, however the moment I saw Ed Asner I changed the channel. Mr. Asner has exercised his First Amendment right to free speech by vocalizing his political opinion, I have exercised my right to not watch him and further his career. There are always consequences to our actions, sometimes they are good, sometimes they are bad. Sorry Matthew and Amanda, I bet I would have enjoyed you.
I haven't had any trouble with noise. Chill out people.
Also, I just want to say, as a UM pastor, thank you for (well, we'll see how the character goes)...but thank you for pointing out that not all Christians necessarily think the 700 Club etc. are the best reps...I'm sure they'll get ticked...but you know what? There are actually MORE of us...we just haven't been as loud yet...but we're trying!
Mr. Sorkin,
You are amazing. I wrote many pleas to you on my blog during the 5th season of TWW, but you apparently never read them since you didn't come back :)
The pilot was great. I'm looking forward to many, many more episodes.
Hi Aaron and Thomas
I love the new show! Can’t wait for more. My only question for you is: Can you give me a job? A two part drama series I created and co-wrote was nominated for an Australian Writers’ Guild Award. I’ve just had a feature film play at the Toronto Film festival. I’ve also had a feature script short-listed by the Sundance Institute. And there is a lot more… Last year I made the move from Australia to the US to further my career. I have dual citizenship so I am able to work here. I just need a job. How about it?
Do writers have as little to do on a set as the expression suggests?
I'm so glad to see some of favorite West Wingers on the new show...
can I make one small request?
When will see a life-sized chocolate CJ Craig?
BEST NEW SHOW OF THE YEAR...I'LL BE TELLING EVERYONE THAT THIS IS THE NEW 'MUST SEE TV!!!"
Love the cast, love the show.
If NBC doesn't fight for this show I will boycott ER MSNBC and any other show that I've been waiting for new season to see.
Quick, fast paced and funny all in one show. Wow!
Thank You!!
first off, it's in widescreen - THAT's why it seems as though these people's heads have been cut off. it's the best way to view anything, though; you see more of the screen.
second, stop yelling to change the logo. it's not their fault. they don't own nbc.
third, it is clearly your own tv if you are hearing things funny. they wouldn't make such horrible editing mistakes and allow the show to be shown.
I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!! MATTHEW AND BRADLEY ARE FANTASTIC TOGETHER! THEY ARE SO HILARIOUS.
OMG -- now people complaining about not getting "full screen" and all the "heads cut off"?!?!?
YOU MORONS!!! It's called LETTERBOX -- the show is in widescreen -- WAKE THE F UP, YOU IDIOTS!!
Aaron -- please keep writing smart TV for us smart people -- and just ignore these total jackasses who don't even know how their own TV's work!!!!
TOO BUSY!!!
Nichole, I think Simon said the show started in 1986, but it sounded like he said 1996, and that's the confusion.
Several months ago, I was lucky enough to view the pilot with several friends. Tonight, we gathered online to view it again (since we are scattered throughout the US and Canada), and we love it just as much now as we did then.
Thank you for this, The West Wing, and Sports Night. They are truly the best shows ever made.
How soon before we find out a lot more about Matt and Danny's backstory? Or about Cal and the other players on the show?
1. Way to NAIL Kristin Chenowith for turning her back on so many of her fans & admirers by singing on the 700 Club!!!!
2. To all these people bitching about the audio -- YOUR stereo isn't hooked up correctly!!! The audio is mixed just FINE -- YOU ARE THE ONE WITH THE PROBLEM -- not the broadcast!!! fools.
I love the Sorkin wit. It's so fast-paced and you have to be on your toes to catch it. Love it.
The Matt/Brad combo is seriously excellent. I am very excited to see more character development throughout the season.
I owe you my second-born child for producing such brilliant shows.
Hi. I am a hugh fan, clearly. I miss the great production and cast tv. I was just wondering if Studio 60 was set in a different time because I know it said it was in it's 20th season. This is so awesome! Thanks, Nichol
Looked forward to the show; not a clue of the opening (and some following) conversations because THE MUSIC IS IN FOREGROUND, THE THE BACKGROUND. Why to do the stations continue to do this?
Also, not receiving a full screen - why? Looks like many of the TMC shows - top of heads chopped off.
It's a real treat to watch a show that tells a story without exploiting this country's obsessions, namely guns, crime and bodies on stretchers.
Arron & Tommy... I just hope you understand how much we miss you!!!
Thanks, for all your great work... and some of us, will follow you were ever you go.
I'm just wondering, if you can point us in the direction of your inspiration/motivation or creativity?
Thanks!
Maybe in a future episode, you should make a crack about how the average TV viewer can't keep up with quick dialogue. Or something.
I was going to ask if the original name for NBS being UBS was another shout-out to Network, but now I have a better question: Why the change from Studio 7 to Studio 60? Same alliteration, same number of syllables...
Who is the actress in the scene with Amanda and Matt? I can't find her in the cast list....
This show is EXCELLENT, by the way. May save NBC.
Nice to see BW as the more-in-control one, for a change. "Stop talking now? Yeah, you bet." Love it!
Awesome! Congrats on one of the best shows I've seen in a LONG time.
I've watched 40 minutes of the show and love it! Been running back and forth to computer to read the comments that I've haven't had time to use the loo. Wait, commercials over - gotta go
Will there be a listing of music used throughout the show?
I LOVE IT! I got the pilot thru Netflix last month & have been showing it to all my friends. Probably my new favorite show of the year.
Well thank god for university screw ups... I get out there cussing left right and centre that I was going to miss this... only to find that this week is our week off! Sheesh... (I have never driven so damned fast in my life to get home!)
BTW I am not weird going to Uni this late at night... I am in Western Australia and it's only 10.40 am over here.
I have been hanging on for this since october last year when it was still Studio 7.
I like my UK friends are pounding the drum big time over here... there are a few of us - and a number of West Wing fans I can bring on board I am sure.
Like they say... there is no substitute for quality...
Question: Who wears the trousers in the Sorkin/Schlamme team? Please feel free to be rude about each other.
I'm loving this so far... but wasn't Matt running pretty fast for someone who just had back surgery?
What a great opening?! Between the writers and the cast I can't think of a better show out there. Helllooooo Matthew Perry. Lookin' goood.
I, for one, am very happy to see another Sorkin/Schlamme production on the air.
Do you foresee any WW alumni, such as Janel Moloney, appearing in future episodes - either in a guest spot or a larger role?
Good show so far. Unfortunately, the decision to put the nbc.com logo practically in the middle of the screen is perhaps one of the worst corporate television ideas in history. If it continues, it will seriously jeapordize my continued appreciation of this show, and I may choose not to watch any NBC programs with this advertising garbage in the middle of the screen.
Something is terribly wrong...is the feed censored in Indiana? I have never seen this happen before...a notice saying, "This channel is unavailable." I am mad as hell!
Dear Mr. Sorkin,
I would like a chance, on this show.I'm a 45 handsome normal guy in chicago burbs.Give a regular guy a chance!
LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!! Half way through the show and am amazed at the hidden truths within the script.
Keep it coming- more truth- more courage- BRING IT ON!
Oooh, I thought of a question - Did you write Matt and Danny with Matthew and/or Brad in mind, since they had such great chemistry together on TWW, or was that just a coincidence?
After Sports Night (1st favorite show of all time) and The West Wing (2nd favorite show of all time), I can't WAIT to see how the rest of this premiere goes! You are the GREATEST television writer of all time!!! (I really wish Sports Night was still running)
Don't worry, some of us don't watch football.
What the hello happened? My cable is probably censoring the show. Too coincidental. Cannot get the show after it got started out of Indianapolis-WTHR and Insight cabel system. I'm old enuf to have seen the original and yes-I'm mad as hello and I'm gonna have to watch supernanny? I don't think so.!
I have to wait until the west coast airing until I see the pilot, but honestly I can't imagine it being anything less than amazing, Mr. Sorkin. It's good to see that 'real' television is coming back and I look forward to watching.
If this is how you ask questions, I have a question: what is it about television that drew you to it?
If I hadn't already seen the show and loved it, I'd love it just for mocking the lameness of Desperate Housewives jokes in a monlogue.
Are the characters in Studio 60 based on actual people you've encountered, or are they "types"?
After following the west wing, I can't wait to see what else you and Mr. Schlamme have up your sleeves, Mr. Sorkin.
-Abby Leib
but up against MNF?
Off to a slow start. Can't stand that guy from TWW - I was really hoping that this would turn out to be "Must See TV" but it's not looking good 26 minutes in.
Welcome back guys! Great show.
I'm assuming this is how you ask questions, in the Comments area.
Since buzz for S60 on the net has been so active for almost a year, has that affected the show at all? Any changes made, are you more conscious of the audience because of web reaction, etc.
Thanks, loving the show.
Another UK "viewer" up working through the night here. Well, I've got the Steelers/Jaguars game on really...
Welcome back to our screens Tommy and Aaron, and the very best of luck with the show. What I'd like to ask is this. You've often described The West Wing as a valentine to public service and I've heard many references over the years to the characters in the show trying to do their best and to do good. I've heard you speak about Studio 60 in these terms recently. Do you think that viewers may find it harder to engage with characters working in the TV industry with the perceived huge paychecks, as opposed to people serving their country, which on the surface may seem the more noble cause. Will it be harder to write a valentine to television?
Aaron - First, let me say that I've enjoyed your previous work (and the associated online communities). Given some of the continuity issues in The West Wing, do you plan on keeping a better character/plot history on this show?
The fact that the credits used the same font as TWW kind of weirded me out, especially since half the names were the same, too.
Looks fun, though.
"which isn't how we do it in
wisteria lane.
"in wisteria lane we invite the suspect over to join our book club"
Hello there,
Just to let you know it's just after 3am here in London, UK (I work nights) and since I can't watch along with you all, I shall be reading the script to myself instead. I anticipate that my commercial breaks will be a bit shorter and I'm planning some innovative lighting techniques. Otherwise I should imagine the experience will be much the same (apart from the hair issue).
Seriously though, there's a hefty cohort of us over here that are really looking forward to seeing this show (I believe we're due to start early next year). Lots of us adored the West Wing (despite having to gen up on the US's arcane political system and Lord John Marbury) and are waiting, reasonably patiently, for the new show.
All the best from Blighty
BEST SHOW OPENING EVER. Wow. I thought I'd be wandering through TV never-neverland after WW ended. But boy, THANK YOU!!!!! :-D (now back to watching...I was too excited to wait to post)...oh, and again, THANK YOU!!!!!
I am so excited that you are back on television. What do you look forward to bringing to Studio 60 that we haven't seen in a drama before?
i am sooooo excited for this show...literally sitting on the edge of my seat. aaron, get ready for some tough questions by the time the show is over. i have my notepad ready and waiting!!!!!!
Mr. Sorkin,
I've been waiting all summer for good TV.
The first 4 years of The West Wing were amazing and I can't wait for the first 4 years of Studio 60.
