HAPPY NEW YEAR, BLOG BUDDIES!!!

Can you believe it's 2009?!? I awoke this morning, rubbed my eyes, kissed WeeWee and instantly looked outside to see if we had flying cars yet. I mean, it's freaking 2009! Didn't you think by now we'd have every luxury the Jetson's had - dinner in pill form, sprockets, bubble houses on sticks way up in the air, etc.?

Maybe it's just me.

Well, I'm glad technology has advance far enough for me to film some of our New Years Eve festivities and share them with all of YOU here on the RossBlog!

And, just for the record, this TALKY includes one of my favorite all time lines ever in a TALKY. To quote Boni, my mom's best friend, "Every girl in a tuxedo should have a tiara, don't you think?"

Happy Monday, blog buddies!

Okay, so here's the deal. A couple weeks ago I talked about putting up my "holiday tree". Then I got a bunch of emails from a bunch of you asking me why I felt the need to be so freaking politically correct about it. I didn't think much about it, but I made a mental note.

Then, a few days later while dressed in a Santa outfit, I asked y'all to share what you wanted for Christmas. Then I got a crapload of emails and comments from people mad at me for saying "Christmas" and not "holidays".

So let's stick with "holidays," shall we?

That being said, the title of today's TALKY BLOG is "I'll Be Home For Christmas" because I'm referencing that old "holiday" classic.

:)

I was really on the fence about going home for the holidays this year. I'm nearly 30. I left the house at 18. Since then, I've been going back to my roots regularly throughout the year and always - always - on Christmas.

I think it might be time to face the hard reality that I'm old. Not really old, but grown up. And, even though I don't have a family of my own (besides my paw-fect Louise), my friends who live in the city I do are my family.

I'm thinking next year I might throw a switcheroo at tradition and stay in LA. But who knows?

At any rate, I am thrilled to be going back home to Mount Vernon, Washington for Christmas this year. I wanna make cookies with my mom, take Louise on walks in the cold (so she can finally use the cute lil' coats I buy her!), go to Fred Meyer with my friend Taya and see everyone else I miss so much when I'm in LA (Boni, Brad, Don, Molly - oh, there are too many to name!).

Well, she's already a fixture in my life. When my mother calls, she asks how Louise is, how work is, how my best friend Kim is, how my car Judy is, how Dr. Neighbor is and how the 3rd member of my neighbor trifecta, Sister Neighbor, is.

I really don't know why you haven't met her yet. I'm with her and RossBlog favorite Dr. Neighbor nearly every night watching movies or making dinner or going out on the town or...

So, finally, my beloved blog buddies, here she is... the very special and very new edition to the RossBlog...

Okay, really quick, I just re-watched this and I think I need to clarify something 'cuz we had a couple glasses of wine during this TALKY and I don't think I articulated my message clearly.

I have been SO lucky my entire life to have had the opportunity to meet the most extraordinary people in the world, a few of whom I cherish as my closest friends. They know who they are. :)

And when I say in this TALKY that I never thought I'd have adult friendships, here's what I meant: in a way, I sort of thought I was already too lucky and I didn't expect to, at this point in my adult life, make the new kinds of friends I've found in my new neighbors. Most of my closest friends I met when I was in high school or college. I'm nearly 30 and making new friends with people in their 30's. There's a different dynamic when you meet people when you're older. Does that make sense?

But that, in no way, diminishes my love, gratitude and respect for all my friends, especially those who I've known for so long.

When I re-watched this, I kinda thought, "Oh crap. It sort of sounds like I'm saying I don't have 'adult friendships' with all my other friends," which, of course isn't the case.

I just kinda wanted to clarify in case some of them watched this and went, "What?!?!?"

Bottom line? I'm one lucky mofo.

Okay, so I did it. I got a new Mac laptop!!!

WOOT WOOT!!!

It's all brand new and TOTALLY different and any tips on how to use iMovie would be GREATLY appreciated, but...

... hopefully I can do some neat-o new stuff in the TALKY BLOGS and the quality of the video will be much-o better.

I played around with it a bit tonight and made a lil' nugget for y'all. It has Louise in it, so it's cute. :)

TGIF, blog buddies!

I woke up early this morning and couldn't resist taking you along with me as I do my morning routine - waking up lil' ole' sleepy head Louise.

Every morning she hides under the covers and doesn't come out until I scream, "Good morning!!!" Then we kiss and cuddle and wrestle and play for about 10 minutes. It's one of the best parts of my day.

Warning - the cute level is at "Code Red" in this TALKY BLOG. Louise is off the charts. Watch at your own risk.

So Ryan and I had a fantastic dinner last night and ended up chit chatting and catching up until much later than I thought. It wasn't until he dropped me off at my house at about 10:30 last night and drove away that I realized we never filmed a TALKY BLOG for y'all!

Oh well. I've spoken to him today and he promises we'll do one super soon. We even have tentative plans for the farmer's market this Sunday. Perhaps we'll do one then (to air here on Monday)? Time will tell!

I have the week off and I find myself making lists of chores that I've been meaning to do for months now and finding immeasurable satisfaction by checking the items off said list one at a time. It's simply thrilling.

Up next? Buying a new bike. Dr. Neighbor and I are going to Target right after I post today's TALKY.

Speaking of today's TALKY, it includes my review of the new movie W and some sad, sad news. You'll have to watch to find out.

Oh, and yesterday I didn't post a TALKY BLOG. I read the comments and some of you think either a) I don't like this blog anymore, b) I don't care about this blog anymore or c) this blog is coming to an end.

The answer is: d) none of the above.

I love this blog. I always have and I always will. This blog is going NOWHERE. If and/or when it needs to move (because of the whole Jay-leaving-the-show thingy), I will always blog with you somewhere. Don't worry gang.

The bottom line is this - as much as I love y'all and I love blogging, sometimes I need a teensy rest. Yesterday was one of those days. I am, after all, on vacation. :)

I spent yesterday, my favorite day of any week, doing what I love best - brunch, farmer's market, football and cooking.

In other news...

Today marks the first official day off during my vacation and I'm spending it doing a whole lot of nothin'.

I went to Target today even though I didn't need anything. I love doing that (except when I accidentally come home with 2 new pillows, 2 new towels and a recipt for $45 bucks - crap!).

I spent the rest of my day hanging with my paw-fect lil' dog-ter, Louise.

After a whirlwind past few days, I am nearing the end of the week and I can't wait to sit on my couch all weekend long and do absolutely nothing. Well, I might watch TV. Oh! I Netflix'ed the 1st season of Mad Men and, even though I'm only 4 episodes into it, I'm obsessed. So I'll watch that.

My favorite days in elementary school were when the cafeteria would throw the universe for a loop and serve breakfast for lunch. I have very vivid memories of waffles and sausage at noon making me feel like I was getting away with something I wasn't supposed to be doing. I was never a very insubordinate child and this meal time switcheroo was the highlight of my pre-teen rebellion.

That thrill has carried through into adulthood and I share it (and, oh, so much more) with all of YOU in today's TALKY BLOG.

Okay, it's official. I painted yesterday. And finished. !!! Now the carpet cleaning place comes to clean today and I'm done done done. WOO HOO!!!

When I had to call a place to come clean the carpets, I didn't know what to do. Then I remembered the commercial for Stanley Steamers - "Call 1-800-STEAMERS, Stanley Steamers gets carpets cleaner!"

God, I love a good song.

I'm writing you from my brand new chair at my brand new desk in my brand new home and I'm freaking in love with every minute of it.

Seriously folks, as Paul Abdul would say, it is "real real good."

Unfortunately for all of us, the cable company can't get here until tomorrow morning, so I have no TV or internet until then and I feel as if my umbilical cord to the rest of the world has been severed and I'm totally detached from the goings on of the rest of the human race.

What's changed in the past day or so? Are we still at war?!? Is Katie Couric still the CBS anchor?!? Are Tom and Katie still together?!? I simply must know!!!

I'm stealing internet from a silly new neighbor who hasn't locked their wireless account and I only get a half a bar or so that keeps going in and out.

So, needless to say, I cannot upload a TALKY BLOG today. Tomorrow, I promise.

In other news...

Yesterday was a big day. I managed to pack up my entire 3 bedroom house in the suburbs, leave what I didn't need and take everything I do need to my new 1 bedroom loft-style condo in the city. And, as luck would have it, yesterday turned out to be one of the hottest days in a long time - over 90 degrees. Crap.

So after a very sweaty and tedious day carrying box after box and hanging painting after painting and moving couch after chair after bed after table, I settled down with a large glass of ice water, 3 Advils and my paw-fect dog-ter Louise to simply enjoy the view of the park out my window and listen to a little Joni Mitchell.

I was home.

Here is a picture I took with my cell phone late yesterday afternoon after the movers had left and I was alone with my belongings strewn about my new home. Overwhelmed? Yes. Tired? Yes. Happy? Yes. :)

And I'm not the only one who's happy. Here is Louise in front of a couple of our new huge windows doing what I am confident will be her favorite new past time - keeping an eye on anyone or anything that wanders into her park below (or, as I call it, "watching her very own big screen").

I have made the big move, blog buddies, and have survived to tell the tale.

The lesson? Change is possible. If you're in a rut, build yourself a freakin' ladder and get the eff out. Life is too short.

Did you watch American Idol last night?!? Listen, I like a lot of the contestants this year. Seriously, I do. But that David Archuleta just makes me smile when he sings! And then, we he gets applause from the audience or praise from the judges, he looks like his head is about to pop off. He's the real deal, that kid. David Cook is also fanfreakingtastic. And so is that cutie Carly.

There are a couple peeps I hope don't win, but I would be fine if 3 or 4 of them win (including my lil' Jason Castro - I'm a "dread-head"!).

In other news...

I got up early this morning to get a head start on what is going to be a super busy day. I explain more in today's TALKY (oh, and when it says 7-something in the morning it was really 6-somthing - it was too early and I made a typo).

Okay, so I have been a bit stressed out all day today dealing with the anxiety of buying my new condo and trying to get everything ready to leave for the Rosie cruise tomorrow morning.

I was, at one point, kinda flipping out in my own head. Too much... stuff going on.

After a long walk with Louise, a nice dinner and an evening spent checking things off my to-do list, I've gained a bit of perspective and realized just how lucky I am.

I'm on vacation this week from The Tonight Show and am spending my days catching up on the shows I've missed on my DVR, including hours and hours of House Hunters.

I cannot wait to see who is voted off American Idol tonight. I'm thinking Luke (who looks like Luke Perry) and the blond girl who looks like the girl that was voted off last week are totally gone. Other than that, umm... I dunno!

I still love dread lock guy, the kid, that other hippy blond girl, the cute little Asian girl and, umm, that's about it.

And did you watch Big Brother last night?!? I LOVE LOVE LOVE that it has changed! It's gonna get better now. :)

I seriously watch too much TV. Oh well. I'm fine with it.

In other news...

Today's TALKY is about my mom, her new car (a fancy 2007 Nissan Altima) and Justin from Simm's Honda.

Well, did you survive Super Tuesday? I was up late last night watching the returns and scratching my head along with everyone else. The whole election process this year is utterly thrilling to me, like it's an award show or something... only without ball gowns and up-do's.

I can't wait to see what happens in the future.

One thing I do know for certain, however, is that the polls here for the 1st Annual RossBlog Talky Awards are closed and only I know the winners!

Did you watch the Iowa Caucuses last night? Didya didya? Well, it was a big night for democracy and the fun is just getting started! I, for one, love to watch the voting process unfold and I encourage YOU to get involved in the issues and the candidates and the process as a whole.

I'm back safe in LA after a quick weekend-long trip to New York City to meet up with some friends (see yesterday's TALKY BLOG below) and have a few meetings.

I got in SUPER late last night, so I didn't have time to pick my paw-fect lil' dog-ter Louise up from my friend Kim's house until this morning.

I miss Louise SO much whenever I'm gone, but she always has a blast at Kim's house hanging out with her boyfriend Wilson (Kim's dog).

I'm almost finished opening all the "ugly" things that so so SO many of you sent in to help me decorate my office - expect a blog about them soon!

As I was opening packages yesterday, I came across one that was hidden behind others and wasn't at all "ugly".

A woman named Kathy from Anchorage, Alaska spent over 50 hours hand making a quilt for my paw-fect lil' dog-ter, Louise. As she made this quilt specifically for my doggie, she looked at a picture of her for inspiration.

The quilt is beautiful. I was beyond touched. I HAD to call her.

When Kathy and I spoke yesterday, I was instantly upset that I didn't have my video camera to film it for a TALKY BLOG - she was so splendid and kind and fun! So I told her I'd call her back today to share her with all of YOU!

And that's exactly what we do in today's TALKY BLOG!

Because she did something above and beyond and because she seems to be such a wonderful person and blog buddy, I'm proud to give Kathy the quilter a BLOGGER SPOTLIGHT AWARD!!!

I filmed today's TALKY BLOG last night in 4 parts because my plan of going to see a movie last night was interrupted by a mini work emergency.

After tweaking my plan just a bit, I still managed to watch and kinda review one of the first Oscar contenders of the season for YOU, my beloved blog buddies!

I watched Away From Her, a fantastic film out on DVD right now starring Julie Christie and Gordon Pinsent, both of whom I think deserve Oscar nominations for their performances.

On another note...

I spent some time walking around outside of the NBC studio this morning talking to the writers on strike, assuring them they they still had my support and admiration. It's not not kinda weird around here, but we're a family and I'm still confident everything will be fine.

Did you watch me on Phenomenon last night?!? Didya didya?!?

I thought the show was greatly improved over the first episode and I had SO much fun! I'm not sure if I'll be on it again, but I'm sure I'll be watching!

After an insanely long day yesterday and because I'm feeling kinda crappy today (sinus issues STILL), I took today off and treated myself to a lunch, a magazine and Pinkberry for desert.

Then I came home and gave my paw-fect little dog-ter, Louise, a bath and filmed it all for you. Oh, and by the way, when I was watching today's TALKY BLOG I kept screaming to myself, "IS THAT WHAT YOU SOUND LIKE WHEN YOU TALK TO LOUISE?!? HOW ANNOYING!!!"

Too funny!

Now I'm off to take a nap.

Can I be totally honest with you? So far, during my first two days of "vacation", I've spent about 8 1/2 hours trying to get TALKY BLOGS to load. For some reason, my mother's internet doesn't work and my satellite thingy in my laptop doesn't work and I'm kind of totally sick and tired of spending my vacation sitting inside waiting for computers to load stuff.

Wouldn't YOU be?!?

So I don't know if there will be any more TALKY BLOGS this week. I'll film them, but won't post them until later.

Or not. We'll see - perhaps I'll be able to figure something out. Whatev! :)

I did, however, get today's TALKY BLOG to FINALLY post, but not to the MyNBC player. Rather, it's on YouTube today.

I love bringing Louise up here to Washington State because - no matter how much I want her to wear pretty dresses and be a lady - she is a TOTAL country dog at heart. She loves smelling and sniffing and rolling in mud and I love to watch her do it. She just looks SO happy!

I took YOU along for one of our country walks today in a very special TALKY BLOG I like to call...

I'm having a great time up here in Washington State. Last night I went to my brother's favorite local bar to watch Monday Night Football, but I totally forgot to bring my camera. Tonight I'm going to my favorite local restaurant to have dinner with some friends and family and I promise I'll remember to bring my camera this time for a future TALKY BLOG!

In other news...

I'm leaving Washington State early tomorrow morning for a super quick trip back down to LA - so quick, in fact, that I'll be back in Washington State again by tomorrow night!

And, finally, I want to extend a HUGE hug to everyone in Southern California who is dealing with the horrific fires currently causing so much damage. I am one of the lucky ones - my home is safe and my friends are safe. I have to tell you, though, it's an odd feeling to sit in my hometown watching my adopted home go up in flames on the nightly news. Let's all send our thoughts and prayers.

Well, I'm officially 28 and I must say that yesterday was one of my best birthdays ever!

The karaoke party was a HUGE success! I was surrounded by people who I love and I we all sang our hearts out and toasted each other and I've never felt more lucky in my entire life!

I'm writing this blog entry early Wednesday morning, but I filmed today's TALKY BLOG last night. I don't think you'll mind, though, because - like I always say - "dog psychics are timeless."

Join me as I attempt to call into a radio show hosted by a woman who says she can communicate telepathically with dogs and cats and chickens. Oh my.

Now, if you know me at all, you know I wasn't calling in to mock this woman. Rather, I was calling in to have her do a reading of my paw-fect little dog-ter, Louise.

I'm not sure if I believe in animal psychics, but I do believe that if she told me Louise loved me and was the hap-hap-happiest doggie that ever lived, I'd believe her. Make sense?

Truth time? I'm a bit beat. Frolicking in the fast lane with my fabulous friend Taya has left me feeling a bit frazzled and I'm finally ready for a fat cat nap.

It's not like we've been partying hard core or anything, though. By "life in the fast lane" I mean "having BBQ's, drinking wine and staying up past 10:30."

Still, it takes its toll.

That's why I'm a bit less energetic than usual in today's TALKY BLOG. I think the heat or the air conditioning or something in the air is the cause for my super-sexy throaty voice. By "super-sexy throaty voice" I mean "I sound like Bea Arthur on helium."

Oh! But, as promised, I do make a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

On a sad note, Taya is going home today. I miss her already.

I don't know about you, but every time I go to the gym I feel like I won a war against myself. Like, every single time I have to talk myself into it and literally FORCE myself to do what I know I should just shut up and do.

Why? Because - let's face it - working out SUCKS. A BIG ONE. There, I said it.

But it's SO worth it - that feeling of accomplishment, the energy you get, and, umm... living longer. It feels SO SO SO great once you're done!

In other news...

I spent Sunday night out with my BEAUTIFUL best friend Kim at a fashion show for the environmentally friendly Sweedish clothing line Odd Molly (click HERE).

I walked the press line and my new friend (and one of the photographers) Katherine was nice enough to email me this picture she took of me and Kim together.

Too cute, right?!? I told her we're the new Brangelina.

I had so so so much fun last night! I went to my friend Jackie Beat's show with my friends Travis and Mario and spent a good 3 hours solid doing nothing but laughing.

Because I ran out of time yesterday, I didn't get to write about the photo shoot I did on Monday.

Yes, that's right - PHOTO SHOOT! How Tyra Banks am I?!?

It was for the upcoming August/September issue of Statement Magazine (formerly Calabasas Magazine) and I was totally nervous. Why? Because photo shoots freak me out!

It feels so totally unnatural to pose and smile and whatever. At least that's how it makes me feel. So I usually just end up making everyone laugh and we somehow we're simply lucky enough to get a picture where I'm smiling and my eyes aren't closed.

Luckily the photographer, Greg Endries (click HERE), was fantastic and totally helped me loosen up a bit and make fun of the whole thing.

Maybe one day I'll get better at it!

Oh! And my backyard is alllllmost done! I mean, all the construction stuff is finished and the grass and most of the plants and trees are in, but I still have to get patio furniture and hanging plants and flowers and...

So, until I'm totally done, I won't show a picture of the finished product on the blog.

A big motivator to fix up my backyard was so that my paw-fect little dog-ter Louise would have a special outdoor palace all her own.

Okay - how much fun was yesterday's TALKY BLOG?!? Seriously! I love love loved it and I hope you did, too. We'll be doing a bunch of those in the future. I like making the RossBlog as interactive as possible and we're really on our way to the next level, don't you think?

And how have YOU been doing with our new BLOGGERS GIT FIT program?!?

Have YOU literally or figuratively taken any steps to improve YOUR health? If so, what have you done? What's been difficult? What's been easy? What has surprised you one way or the other?

Go to our COMMENT SECTION to share! I've gone to the gym every day since we started the BLOGGERS GIT FIT program and, I've got to tell you, I feel fantastic. It's not easy talking myself into putting on my gym clothes and actually making my way to the gym, but once I'm there I feel fantastic and I'm always thrilled I went.

But remember - it may have been about the number on Celebrity Fit Club, but it was never about the number for me. It's about getting HEALTHY. And if I can do it, YOU can do it!

In other news...

I'm going to spend this afternoon couch shopping. Why? Well, my current couch is fine. It's totally cute. I've only had it a couple years and it's still in pretty good shape. But, because I like to mix things up from time to time, I've been flirting with the idea of getting a different couch.

I shared this thought with my best friend Kim and her boyfriend (who doesn't like to be mentioned by name on the RossBlog and prefers to be referred to as "Dietrich Underpants") once and they told me they'd love to take my old couch when or if I ever got a different one.

Well, when I was in Nashville at the CMT Awards a couple weeks ago they took care of my paw-fect little dog-ter, Louise. Apparently, though, Louise wasn't too paw-fect while I was away.

Let me explain...

You see, sometimes - very VERY rarely, but sometimes - when Louise's fur is too long and she takes a number 2, she leaves a bit on her bum. I know. It's gross. But, because I'm her daddy and I love her, I just use a paper towel or something to remove it and move on.

But when she was with Kim and Dietrich a couple of weeks ago, the little extra #2 on her bum went unnoticed. That is, until they realized there was an ucky smell all over the house.

Yes, that's right. Louise brought her extra #2 into Kim and Dietrich's house and unknowingly got it all over their bedding. And carpets. And couch.

Carpets and bedding, luckily, can be cleaned very easily. A couch, on the other hand...

Luckily Kim and Dietrich thought it was hysterically funny. But I was/am mortified. And it has bumped up my search for a new couch in order to QUICKLY replace their newly #2'd couch with my current one.

Hence today's couch shopping.

What I won't do for that freakin' paw-fect lil' dog-ter of mine.

I feel much like what I imagine my mother felt when, as a young child at Expo '86, I stomped on a mustard packet and it sprayed all over the innocent girl standing in front of me.

Or should I say, “Howdy, y’all!”

I’m writing to you from Nashville, TN and I’m loving every minute of it! Seriously – I’m sort of in love with this town.

Bright lights and music everywhere coupled with the fact that people wear sequins when they dress up propels Nashville to near the top of the list of some of my favorite cities.

You’ll never guess who was on the same plane I was on coming out here from LA. Guess. Guess. You’ll never guess.

My friend and country music sensation Jo Dee Messina! You may remember we did a lil’ Tonight Show segment together during the Olympics in Torino.

Here we are after we landed at the airport in Nashville.

It was so appropriate running into Jo Dee randomly because it really kicked off my country education. Countrycation. Oh my God. I just made up a word. Just now. It literally just happened as I typed it. I love it!

It should be in the dictionary!

Countrycation (kun-tree-ca-shon): trying desperately to immerse one’s self into the country music world in merely 2 days prior to presenting on the Country Music Television Awards on live television.

Anyway…

After catching up with Jo Dee, my countrycation continued as we went to the place where the CMT’s will be held.

The very first thing I noticed when I walked in was that they had the faces of famous people taped to chairs. They do this at rehearsal for all award shows so the camera operators and director will know where everyone will be.

I thought to myself, “Dare you even look to see if they have your face?”

I looked.

And there I was!

I couldn’t believe it! I had had had to take a picture with myself. Wouldn’t you?!?

Then I met with Peter, the stage manager, who told me what my presenter duties where going to be during the show.

OMG, guess what I’m going to do. Guess. Guess. You’ll never guess.

I, along with CMT VJ Lance Smith, will be introducing… CARRIE UNDERWOOD!!!

Can you believe that?!?

I’ll be on after the 6th commercial (which is roughly, I’m told, an hour and a half into the show). At least that’s what they told me yesterday.

Peter and I had to stop in the middle of rehearsing because it was Hank Williams Jr.’s chance to run through the song he’ll be singing tonight.

And then I fell in love. Seriously. The next band who rehearsed was Sugarland. I’d never heard of them, but they were AMAZING! A. MA. ZING.

And I got to meet them after and they were even more amazing in person!

I’m now a huge huge huge fan of theirs. Why didn’t I know about them earlier?!? Are YOU a Sugarland fan?!?

So make sure to watch the CMT’s tonight! When I’m up on stage I’ll try to remember to scratch my eyebrow. That will mean, “Hi, blog buddies!!!”

TGIF, blog buddies!

I am running around like a crazy person trying to get everything ready. I'm packing to leave early tomorrow AM for Nashville to be a presenter at the Country Music Television Awards (airing on Monday), plus I have to find something to wear tonight.

Where am I going tonight? Well, I'm going to the Race To Erase MS fundraiser where I'll be co-hosting the live auction with Tom Arnold! Fun, right?!?

When they asked me to take part, I said, "Sure!"

Then, yesterday, I got the list of all the stars that are going to be there and I totally freaked out. It's like this big dinner thing with tons of famous people and I have to get up on that stage with Tom Arnold and be funny while we raise money.

Seriously. I get a wonky feeling in my tummy just thinking about it. I mean, Ray Romano will be there. Allison Janney will be there. Dr. Phil will be there. Eva Longoria will be there. And tons of other, too, and they'll all be watching as I try to auction stuff off. And it's not just "stuff". I got the list of items yesterday and the starting bid on one of them is $30,000.

For reals.

I need a xanax just thinking about thinking about it.

I'm never like this, though! Seriously - I never ever get stage fright. Maybe I'll be okay once I'm there, but I'm sorta freaking out in the meantime.

The good news? I'm going to look fantastic! I have a new suit that I haven't had a chance to wear yet and I think I'm going to pair it with the blue floral shirt I wore last time I was on The Tonight Show.

I'm pooped! I spent all morning at a photo shoot for In Touch Weekly with my paw-fect little dog-ter, Louise. They're featuring us in the "Stars & Their Pets" section in an upcoming issue! How fun, right?!?

Then we swang through El Pollo Loco on the way home (for a chicken breast and a Diet Coke).

I swear, when I look through magazines like In Touch Weekly and see those photo shoots, it always looks so glamorous and fancy. It's so weird now that I've been in one. I mean, I made my oatmeal this morning for breakfast and picked up Louise's poop on our walk and then got El Pollo Loco for lunch - FAR from the fancy high-life.

My life is way more about poop-scooping and Diet Coke than photo shoots and big celebrity events.

But I prefer it this way. I like being the outsider who sometimes gets let inside - this way, I can report back to everyone else!

Well, it happened. Sanjaya was safe again this week. Oh wow...

I've said it before and I'll say it again: it's not the poor kid's fault! He just comes on stage every week and tries to do his best. He can't help it if there's a movement to keep bringing him back. Imagine being him knowing that the entire nation doesn't want you there and also knowing that you have to come back next week and do it all again. I think he's courageous!

Anyway...

Okay, gang. BIG NEWS!!!

I'm leaving for Nashville on Saturday to go be a presenter at the Country Music Television Awards (click HERE)! I don't know why they picked me, but they've asked me to come and be a presenter and I am so so so excited!

I mean, come on - they ask real celebrities to be presenters! How fun, right?!?

The Tonight Show is coming with me to Nashville to shoot a segment about my trip, too. I'll let you know when that airs.

I've been struggling to find the PERFECT outfit to wear to the CMT's and I think I've found it. I didn't want to look like I was making fun of country music by going too far and wearing chaps and a cowboy hat, etc. Rather, I wanted to dress like I was just excited to be invited - authentically country!

And I've found it. Seriously. I honestly think I'm going to look amazing. A. MA. ZING. You'll have to wait to see me, though!

Oh! And tomorrow morning Louise and I have a photo shoot. Yes, you read that correctly!

In Touch Weekly has chosen to feature us in their "Stars and Their Pets" section! Isn't that amazing - Louise is a star and I'm her pet! I don't know which issue it'll be in, but I'll let you know when I find out.

And, finally, I wrote about the fact that the RossBlog was nominated for BEST CELEBRITY BLOG at the Blogger's Choice Awards. Well, we're still in 1st place, but Rosie said on her blog yesterday that she really wanted to win this award. My reaction? "2nd place to Rosie?!? I'll take it! :)"

It's the beginning of the month and you know what that means - it's time to announce the BLOGGER OF THE MONTH for April!

BLOGGER OF THE MONTH has been in existence for a year now and there's one specific blog buddy who hasn't been bestowed with the prestigious honor even though she's deserved it month after month.

Why not? I mean, she's been hanging around the RossBlog since the very beginning. Every month she gets tons of votes. She's here every day participating and, with her positivity and upbeat attitude, making the RossBlog the amazing web-community it is.

So why is she yet to be crowned BLOGGER OF THE MONTH?!?

It's simple: I was afraid of being accused of nepotism.

I am proud to give you our new BLOGGER OF THE MONTH...

My mom!!!

If you've spent any time at all around the RossBlog you know how much my mom deserves this. I couldn't let an entire year of BLOGGER OF THE MONTH go by without giving the honor to her. And if it sounds like nepotism, well.. maybe it is. But the truth is she EARNED this!!! I mean, she did kinda give birth to me after all...

Now, this is where I usually allow the newly appointed BLOGGER OF THE MONTH share a few words about themselves and give an acceptance speech of sorts.

However, this is a total surprise to my mom! She'll be finding out about this the same way y'all will - by reading the blog.

In other news...

I had such a great great great weekend! My friends Molly and Renee are visiting from Seattle and we've been keeping super busy.

We spent part of Friday at The Tyra Banks Show! Some of my Celebrity Fit Club cast mates and I went on to talk about our experience (it'll air in a month or so - I'll let you know).

I was kind of totally nervous on the car ride to the studio, but luckily I had Molly and Renee to calm me down.

I didn't get a chance to take any pictures (I'm not even sure I was allowed to), but Molly totally hooked the RossBlog up by sneaking some pictures of the monitor as she watched the taping of the show from the green room. Everyone say, "Good thinkin', Molly!"

On another note...

Yesterday was a very very special day! My paw-fect little dog-ter, Louise, turned 3 years old!

I'm such a proud papa!

Truth be told, she's a rescue, so we don't know her real birthday. But a few years ago, based on what the vet told me when I got her, I counted backwards and decided that April 1st would be her birthday from then on.

We've celebrated the big day with a fun party every year since. Yesterday was no exception.

A bunch of my closest friends came to celebrate, including Louise's boyfriend, Wilson (my best friend Kim's poodle), Kim and her boyfriend, Molly, Renee and my friends from college Ryan and Lora. We had a birthday BBQ party complete with presents, cake and drinking. I mean, in dog years Louise turned 21. Even though she can't partake, we had to celebrate that somehow, right?!? :)

Okay okay okay... first things first.

If you've been reading the RossBlog, you know that I wrote about an idea I had regarding me logically becoming the spokesperson for ROSS Dress For Less. My name is Ross. Their name is ROSS. I love a great bargain. It makes perfect sense, right?!?

I just thought it was a funny idea that we could all get around as a web-community!

I sent the ROSS corporation an email and encouraged y'all to start emailing them too. I was shocked by how many of you supported the cause!

Yesterday I got an email back from the ROSS corporation and they, umm, didn't think it was as good of an idea as we did. They made it clear that they're happy with their current marketing campaign and also suggested I not use their logo on my blog anymore.

Oopsies!

But I so so so appreciate all of your support!!! And I'm still a huge fan of the ROSS stores. I'll admit, my initial reaction was that I would be a little uncomfortable shopping at ROSS anymore. But, to squash that feeling, I drove to the ROSS near my house yesterday evening and bought another polo shirt for $8 just to be a good sport.

No matter what, I've said it before and I'll say it again: "I LOVE ROSS DRESS FOR LESS!"

Now I'm off to officially change my name to "Target".

On another note...

Did you watch American Idol last night?!? Okay, so I might be the ONLY person who isn't going to make major fun of Sanjaya.

I mean, yes. He's can't really sing that great. And, yes. His hair was outrageous last night.

But I think he's just a kid thrust into the limelight with everybody talking about him and he's trying to find himself. Don't you remember when you were 17? Were you ever just a little different than everybody else? Did people ever make fun of you?

I give the lil' guy major props for getting on that stage each week and being HIMSELF knowing that he's going to be facing nation-strong ridicule.

In my opinion, that's courage.

But he still can't sing very well. Poor thing.

Oh my God - we had so so SO much fun in the brand new CHAT ROOM last night!

As you may or may not know, we just got a new fancy CHAT ROOM here at the RossBlog. I was excited to get rid of the old one, but I had no no no idea just how KEWL this new one would be!

We have VIDEO CHAT!!! With a little help from some tech-savvy blog buddies, I got my web-cam and microphone working and could chat with you all live and in person via the little camera in my laptop!

How cool, right?!? If you missed yesterday's chat session, don't worry - we'll do it again soon.

On another note...

I have sad news to report. Cammy, my trusted side-kick who has traveled daily with me since the beginning of the RossBlog and has never once let us down, has decided to retire.

I think we all owe a huge "thank you" to Cammy who, without fail, always came through for us in our time of need and, until today, provided every picture that has ever been on the RossBlog.

Now, instead of traveling the world with me, Cammy will make the journey to my mother's house to live with her and enjoy retirement.

Thank you, my dear dear Cammy.

I'd like you all to meet Cammy's replacement, Lil' Red!

I look forward to spending some quality time with my new buddy, Lil' Red, right away!

In other news...

While I was at the grocery store yesterday on my way home from work, I think I was trying to shake the rainy day blah's by buying silly things I didn't really need. Do you ever do that?

One of the items I bought was those things you put in your toilet to make the water blue. Do you know what I'm talking about?

I remember seeing blue toilet water at some of my childhood friend's houses growing up and thinking it was so so so cool! I remember thinking to myself, "I am SO gonna do that when I grow up!"

But all the roommates I had up until now always said, "No way, Ross - that's so tacky."

Now that I live on my own, I've totally been meaning to do it. Well, yesterday was the day and I was so so so excited when I got home and unpacked the blue little pill things from my grocery bags.

Well, after putting them in the tanks of my toilets and excitedly watching the bowl fill with blue water, I was instantly uneasy about my decision.

I fear my former roommates were right. It does look kinda tacky. And what happens when you go #1? Does it turn green?!?

Oh well! At least I bought the cheap generic brand, so hopefully it'll run out quickly. Oopsies!

After a weekend away in Palm Springs, it's back to the daily grind today and, truth be told, I'm thrilled to be back at work! As most of you probably know, I just recently finished filming the upcoming season Celebrity Fit Club - we shot during the weekends. So, for over 100 days, my schedule was totally screwy.

Now that Celebrity Fit Club is done taping (it begins airing on April 15th on VH1), I'm back to a normal schedule ANDI'MLOVINGEVERYMINUTEOFIT!!!

The first thing I did when I got back into town yesterday was pick up my best friend Kim so that we could go to an annual pet adoption festival held at Bob Hope Park right across from my office at NBC in Burbank.

Now, don't get excited - I don't have plans to adopt another dog. I'm often tempted (especially when I see all the AMAZING doggies who need homes), but Louise and I have a good thing going and I don't really want to upset the balance. Plus, since I travel a lot and Kim watches Louise when I'm gone, it's not just my wants that I have to take into consideration.

Still, I love to go to animal adoption events simply to support and bring attention to the cause.

All of these doggies need homes. Many of them were saved by rescue organizations who scooped them up from animal shelters literally seconds before they were euthanized in order to make room for even more doggies. And the cycle continues...

But YOU can help! If you're looking for a doggie or thinking about looking for a doggie or even thinking about thinking about looking for a doggie, please consider adopting!

All sorts of doggies need homes - from big ones to little ones, shy ones to confident ones, sleek ones to fluffy ones, old ones to young ones.

I've said many times before that, after my father died, adopting my paw-fect little dog-ter Louise turned my entire world around.

I'm sorry to be all preachy about dog adoption, but it's the ONE thing that really gets me going - I have SUCH a place in my heart for doggies!

On a related note...

When I was editing the pictures for today's blog, I totally remembered something I wrote over a year ago while blogging from the Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy.

Remember that?!? Well, if you were hanging around the RossBlog way back then (and I know a few of you were), then you may remember this, too.

It was towards the end of the Olympics and, because I had been there 3 weeks already, I was really missing my Louise. Here's what I wrote:

And, lastly, as I mentioned yesterday, I’m missing my dog at home, Louise. Now, don’t get me wrong. I know how lucky I am to be here and I am SO grateful. But being away from my baby for this long has been a pretty difficult.

But today on my walk I decided to spread the love I would usually bestow on my Louise onto the dogs I saw during my walk about town. Here are some of my favorites:

Next time I should take pictures of the looks on the owners’ faces when I – this crazy American – runs up to them gushing, “OH!!! LOOK AT YOUR DOGGIE!!! MAY I TAKE A PICTURE?!?” I think I freaked most of them out. Oh well. :)

In other news...

I totally hurt my foot over the weekend. I'm not sure how, exactly. Well, it was hot in Palm Spring and I did a lot of walking wearing flip flops. A LOT OF WALKING. And ever since my right foot kinda feels like it's kinda broken in half. I think I just did too much walking in shoes that had no arch support or whatever. Does anyone know any kind of super-cute yet super-supportive flip flops? I think I'll need some soon.

Oh! And you might remember a movie called Stranger Than Fiction. It came out about 5 or 6 months ago and I saw it in the theatre and LOVED it! Well, I think I may have been the only person who saw it in the theatre because it didn't do very well at the box office.

Well, it's out on DVD now and I highly encourage you to rent it! I just added it to the top of my queue on Netflix!

Happy Saturday, blog buddies!

I'm putting my Uncle Hat on this weekend watching my best friend Kim's dog, Wilson, while Kim and her boyfriend are out of town celebrating their 9 year anniversary!

Kim and I are so lucky to have each other because whenever one of us goes out of town, the other one takes care of the doggies. We both adopted our dogs around the same time and, luckily, Louise (my paw-fect little dog-ter) and Wilson are TOTALLY in love.

Seriously. I mean, they're like crazy soul mates. If I even say, "Wilson", Louise stops whatever she's doing, tilts her head, puts up her ears and starts whining. They're totally boyfriend-girlfriend and it's the cutest thing ever!

I think the 3 of us will take a trip to the park down the street in a little bit. I love dog sitting!

In other news...

I'm still trying to sell my old car. When I bought my new car recently, I sort of did the whole thing backwards because the dealership didn't give me a good offer on my trade in. So I've spent the last 3 weeks or putting ads online and strategically parking it on the street with FOR SALE signs on it and tons of other sales techniques. Unfortunately, most of the people who replied to my ad (all, like 2 of them) were kinda freaky.

So I've given up and my neighbor and I are going to a place called CarMax or something that buys cars. Wish me luck. I'll totally fill you in.

But I have to go right now to a car wash to try to spruce up the ole' beauty and maybe - just maybe - pinch another couple dollars out of it.

TGIF, blog buddies!

It's the last official day of my vacation (I don't go back to work at The Tonight Show until Monday but the weekend doesn't count) and I'm relishing every moment of it, blogging to you right now from the balcony off my kitchen overlooking palm trees and the blue skies of sunny southern California. We're having unseasonably warm "Al Gore" weather lately and, although I'm usually a sweater and jacket kinda guy, I'm kinda totally into the summer-like surprise heat as of late. After all, it is my vacation!

Even though it's my vacation, I can't sit still. If you read yesterday's blog entry you know that I was trying to decide if I was going to spend the day painting the entrance way of my house or going to see my good friend Jackie Beat host karaoke in West Hollywood.

Well, guess what. Guess. I did both!

I finished painting the two doors and then painted the wall in the entrance way and another wall going up my stairs the same light shade of taupe-ish brown that is in the upstairs. Here's how it looks:

Still not super-great, but better than it was before (plain ole' white).

Then I cleaned myself up and booked it to West Hollywood to arrive only 30 minutes late! Pretty impressive, no?!?

When I walked in, I found Jackie doing what Jackie does best - workin' hard for her money.

Now, I know what you're probably thinking to yourself. "Why was it so important for Ross to see Jackie perform last night? I mean, he's seen her a gazillion times before and he could see her again any other night..."

Well, that's where your wrong. Because starting March 15 through April 30, Drag Superstar Jackie Beat is the opening act for Roseanne Barr at the New York New York Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas!!!

Here we are last night.

Everyone say, "Congrats, Jackie Beat!!!"

I was so busy painting and rushing to get there in time, I totally forgot to have dinner! Even though Celebrity Fit Club is history (until it airs, at least), I want to maintain my new healthy lifestyle, so I just ordered a salad and asked the server to add chicken to it.

When it arrived, it was - I swear to God - the best salad I've ever had. Spinach, pecans, goat cheese, strawberries and grilled chicken breast all mixed together in the perfect amount of balsamic vinaigrette. I was in salad heaven!

That is, until I got the bill. $16.74. For a salad. I tracked down the server and asked, "Umm, is this right? 'Cuz I just had a salad. (Nervous giggle)."

It turns out the salad was originally $10 and chicken is an extra $5 plus tax. Add tip to that and you have a $20 salad. I usually would have been furious. I mean, that's WAY TOO MUCH for a salad. But it was a really really good salad...

Oh, and, umm... the entertainment was good, too.

And after my $20 salad, I got to come home to the cutest, most paw-fect dog-ter in the entire world, my baby Louise. Seriously. Can you BELIEVE how FREAKING cute she is?!? I took this picture late last night when I got home.

UNREAL!!! She's like a little model! She should be America's Next Dog Model!!!

In fact, now that I take a closer look, I think I've seen that expression before...

Oh no!!! :)

In other news...

I went to London in 2002 to shoot a segment with my friend Gwyneth Paltrow. I lost my eye glasses there and never went back to an optometrist to get new ones. Ever. That is, until today! I have an appointment at 3. It'll be nice to be able to see again. Plus, I'm thinking BOLD frames. Wish me luck. :)

No, really. It's a HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY Thursday!!!

Did you, umm, by any chance, umm, watch The View this morning?!?

I did.

Oh my God, I did!!!

My friend and Celebrity Fit Club cast mate, Kimberly Locke, was a guest co-host this morning and I tuned in to support her (plus, I watch the show almost every day anyway).

Little did I know that the ladies - including Elisabeth, Kimberly and ROSIE O'DONNELL (I don't think Joy knows who I am, but I love her, too!) - would talk about ME.

I wish I could even attempt to accurately describe how surreal it is to sit in your living room watching The View and suddenly hear your name mentioned.

Don't think for one second that I didn't TIVO it.

It's like slow motion. Seriously. They said my name and I kinda went, "Huh? Wait. That's me. Huh? What? Oh my God."

Just like that, only in that slow motion kinda voice. It didn't really sink in at first. It was too weird. It wasn't until later when I looked in the mirror, paused and thought, "They were talking about YOU."

Too freaky!!!

Since my "big moment" on The View this morning, I've been walking on cloud nine!

Speaking of walking, I've been obsessed lately with going to a park down the street from my house every day with my paw-fect little dog-ter, Louise. It wasn't until the other week that I realized the park was even there and now it's our favorite place to go. It's nothing special - just a teeny little corner area with a couple paths and some grass, but it's hard to find places with nature in the city.

And just look how happy Louise is at the park!

She loves to run around and get dirty.

And I love when we get to the grassy hill so we can run around and play together.

In other news...

I spent yesterday painting my two front doors and now I've got a hankerin' to paint my entire entrance way. Should I? Or should I just chill out instead? I mean, I've been meaning to get around to it for a while, but it is my vacation. Hmm...

Happy Monday, blog buddies!

Because I worked straight through the weekend, I decided to stay away from the office today and, instead, work from home and run some errands. It was so so so nice to hop in the car and go to Bed Bath & Beyond and Target and just look at crap. I managed (somehow) not to buy anything, but it's been such a long time since I've had time to mindlessly browse and it was a much welcomed retreat.

But the best part of the day was sleeping in a bit and watching the morning news as I cuddled with my paw-fect little dog-ter, Louise. In fact, I kind of haven't stopped cuddling her all day. Here we are just 20 minutes ago:

Oh my GOD I'm so in love with her!

I'm trying something new today, too. I bought a long-sleeved red and white striped t-shirt at the Palm Springs outlet mall two trips ago and I've never worn it before. Since it's raining today and I'm kinda chilly, I tried to wear it over a button up dress shirt, but I don't think it's working. Every time I leave the house I expect to hear someone shout, "I found Waldo!"

I'll probably change into something else. Oh well!

In other news...

As I mentioned above, I spent this past weekend shooting the 2nd-to-last episode of Celebrity Fit Club.

I've been lucky enough to work with some really amazing people on this show, both on the cast and the crew. I've learned a great deal from these people and I want to share a quick story with you.

Cledus T. Judd (click HERE) is one of the people on the cast with me. If you're not familiar with Cledus yet, you will be soon. And if you are familiar with him, you know what I know - he's one of the funniest people in the entire world.

But what you may not know is that Cledus is also one of the kindest, most honest people I've ever met. You'll see why when Celebrity Fit Club begins to air.

Yesterday, as we were hanging out in our dressing room between takes, I noticed that Cledus was wearing an AMAZING watch. It was huge and bright powder blue with red numbers and hands.

I yelled, "Cledus T. Judd, come over here and show me that watch!"

He said, "I just bought it last night. Do you like it?".

"Oh my God, it's amazing."

"Try it on," he insisted

I did. It looked so cute. "Oh my God, it's unreal. So cute!"

He asked me again, "Do you really like it?"

"It's fantastic."

"It's yours."

And he wasn't kidding. I refused, of course. One time. Two times. 5 times. 10 times.

He said, "If you don't take it, I'll be offended."

"But why?"

"Because that's how I work. I want you to have it. You've been a good friend to me and I appreciate it and I want you to have the watch."

I couldn't believe it. This is a really really nice watch. But it's about more than just the watch - it's about respect and gratitude and giving thanks and sharing.

Cledus T. Judd taught me a lesson yesterday. I hope I can repay him someday.

In other news...

What's on TV tonight? I know I'm just going to stay in and watch the tube, but - for the life of me - I can't think of anything good on tonight. I've already caught up on all the Ugly Betty's and Grey's Anatomy's that I had Tivo'd, so unless there's something good on tonight, I'm kinda screwed. Any suggestions?

Happy Thursday, blog buddies!

I fear I'm getting... dum dum dummmmmmmm... sick. It's weird. Usually my colds start in my throat and then go into my nose and head. This time, it's different. My chest is tight and I need to cough, but can't. And my head is throbby, but my nose and throat are fine. We'll see how long that lasts.

So I said, "Screw it!" and stayed home from work today. I've been burning the candle at both ends lately and I think it's okay for me to take some more time to baby myself. Right? Right...?

In other news...

Can you believe it's already February 1st?!? What happened to January? It feels like we were just celebrating New Years, but now 2007 is already a used model.

In any event, it's the first of the month and you know what that means! It's time to announce February's BLOGGER OF THE MONTH!

"Wow! Thank you, members of the Academy of Rossland Arts and Sciences! You like me! You really like me! LOL!

This whole crazy adventure started last July 4th, during a visit to my sister’s family in Canmore. My 10-year old niece introduced me to one of those online virtual communities for kids, and I was fascinated by the fast and frenzied social interaction… all of it virtual.

Not two weeks later, I chanced to catch the Ross the Pirate segment on TTS. I’d noticed Ross a couple of times before on the show, but that segment really tickled my funny bone… especially the scene where he repeatedly inserted “Paris Hilton is a…” before the rowers said “row”… or was it “ho”? Once I stopped laughing, and now quite curious about Ross, I idly started to research him on the Internet.

In no time at all, I uncovered the existence of this thriving online community. And what an amazing community it turned out to be! Rossland has changed my life in several ways, some trivial, some not. I now speed dial Huzbear with one key press rather than seven. I now do hyperlinks. I now have a Myspace page that provides an outlet for me to write about a lifelong intellectual passion. Most important, I now have friends all across the US and Canada, and the opportunity to hang with you, tease you and joke with you, and most of all, LOL and ROFLMAO with you almost every day!

But there's more. When I first got involved, I was a stereotypical west coast liberal secular humanist who had pretty much only socialized with other stereotypical west coast liberal humanists for almost 20 years. Maybe, just maybe (not that I’d ever admit it), I’d reached a point where I didn’t have a lot of respect for people who hold different political, religious, and social views than mine, and live very different lifestyles than I do. But… trust me... one simply can’t spend as much time as I have over the last six months, reading your daily posts about your reactions to Ross’s blogs, about your families and your jobs, your joys and struggles, your hopes and disappointments and accomplishments (not to mention directly interacting with you so often in chat), and not be
deeply affected and changed. Bottom line: Because of you bloggers, I may not have actually altered very many of my own opinions, but I have far more understanding and tolerance and respect for those of you who don't share them!

Ross, give yourself a huge pat on the back. If it weren’t for your daily blog and its wonderful ability to draw all of us out and inspire us to write about ourselves, none of this would have happened. It’s not easy to write a blog every day. But… believe me… it’s having a real impact!"

On another note...

Yesterday I posted a "before" picture of my paw-fect little dog-ter, Louise. She spent yesterday at the groomer and I promised to post an "after" picture of her today.

Well, I always keep my promises, so I spent about 20 minutes this morning after our walk trying to get Louise to sit still long enough for me to snap a photo. Whenever she sees my camera come out, she goes a little crazy. There must be something about the buzzing and clicking and flashing she doesn't like.

I took about a hundred photos before I got any good ones. Here are some of my efforts:
