Ok, I'm kind of in a dilemma, as most of you know I usually record and post Ross' segments to the video sharing site DailyMotion.com. Unfortunately they will not let me upload them anymore. I am also having a bit of trouble with my TV, when ever I turn it on the volume automatically goes full blast and I can't turn it down. So if there is anyone who might be able to record it and upload it that would be great. I will do my best to get it tonight or sometime in the next couple days but I can't make any promises! I am so sorry! I promise I will get this taken care of by his next segment!

You did a fine LIVE contact with LA. It's hard to recall things when you're on the spot even if you've rehearsed them 5 times. One of the things we appreciate about you, Ross, is your spontaneous ad libs!

On the big announcement - I’m assuming AND hoping it has to do with you getting your own freaking show! If not that, that you’ll be on Jay’s new one OR Conan’s, because I think you and Conan would be pretty fantastic together, personally. I’m a Letterman person, but watch Jay occasionally…and…of course, when you’re on. ALSO, your segment tonight was one of your all-time best. Compared to the Olympic one with the skaters whose names I’ve forgotten.

Also, you look so healthy! Just thought I'd throw that in.

Houston Huey...concerning your volume on your TV. My cable company controls the volume of the TV with their digital box. If you are hooked to cable it might be your cable box that is causing your volume problem. Time Warner said they update during the night and it can cause volume changes with the digital box. My volume was too low. Just a thought before you run out and buy a new TV.

Oh no! I forgot to watch as well! Let me know if anyone where I can watch the Ross segment of last night on TTS. Oh well...going to go watch the talky and get my Ross fix!

Well, even tho' he saw his shawdow my clematis out front is starting to bud. That tells me the plants know more than the ground hog. Last year we started getting hummingbirds in Feb. This kid will be wishing for an early Spring!

Jomah, I agree with your comments about the show making Ross act like the extreme stero type of what a gay man is like. They do take it over the top sometimes, but I think Ross does that on his own, also. Its the character he wants to be on the show. Problem is, when he is 40 it won't be so funny. I agree that he is naturally funny and a very nice person with much more to offer. How do other gay men feel when they see his act? It would be interesting to hear.

Joan, I have a gay male couple as friends. They have been together for 37 years. They have a word for how gay men act & talk like a female. I can't remember & I'll ask them again. But it is a turn off to them. If you're a man whether you're gay or straight act like one and talk like one. Not shriek like a girl!

Jomah and Joan: This is an interesting topic that has surfaced occasionally, most notably over on Jackie Beat's blog in the summer of 06.

My two cents: I know that Ross Mathews is a much more nuanced person than the situations and persona you see on his TTS segments. I know that from having watched and read his blogs for several years. Thus, his on-air segments don't offend me in the least. I appreciate them for what they are, which are basically send-ups of stereotypes of what men are supposed to look and sound like, often (but not always) in highly macho environments like pro football games and lumberjack contests.

There is enormous humor to be mined from that general area. For another notable example, check out the Dana Carvey skits as "The Effeminate Heterosexual" from the old Saturday Night Live days. Hysterical!

Kay: The word you're looking for is "nelly" or "nelly queen". Where I disagree with you is in your assertion that the only "correct" way for men or women to behave is in conformance with stereotyped masculine and feminine characteristics.

Once you let go of the notion that there are intrinsic "gender-appropriate" behaviors, and people should strive to follow them, you are free to appreciate the humor in Ross's segments.
