Been readin' the comments, and lovin' them!!
Biscy, dg, and others nailed the only issue that matters here. The job of running this country is so important, the nominee for president has a fundamental obligation to pick the best qualified person for his or her running mate. Period.
When McCain failed to do that, by selecting someone less qualified than the people on Biscy's list, two questions should have jumped to the forefront of this campaign.
First, people should have immediately asked themselves: what will happen if Sarah Palin, who isn't the very best talent available to do this job, becomes president?
Second, what does this decision say about the judgment of the person who selected her? Did he really have the best interests of the country in mind?
Ask yourselves these questions, blog buddies. Please.
dg: Thanks for your good wishes! I'm taking today off to run around, then the equivalent to the rehearsal dinner is tonight. Yikes! LOL!
Benstralia: I totally agree with you! Those issues should be front and center in this election, because McCain has been such a strong supporter of that war from the beginning.
Mary_dk: Do I have permission to quote you? You wrote:
"I am married to a Danish woman and we have two kids together. I have to choose love over country to keep my family together. What does that say about unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness?"
Thank you for bringing up the immigration situation! I have commented here in the past about how the policies of a McCain administration, and his public support of Proposition 8 here in California, will (or could) reach out and bite me in my own life, in a very concrete way. And I am a US citizen.
It is also worth noting, as you point out, that the homophobic, discriminatory policies of the federal government also hurt gay and lesbian non-US citizens who are trying to immigrate to this country, either as an intact already-established family, or because the have become involved with a US citizen, and want to live with that person here.
Why, rossland republicans, do you give your vote to politicians who support policies and laws that discriminate against your fellow gay and lesbian human beings and deny us the same opportunities that you take for granted for the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness?
Why?
