ROSS good morning and woah is right. Can't wait
to see strong Republicans opinions on this one!

Have a happy and safe weekend everyone.
MidnightMuze be safe and keep in touch!!

Ross -- Too bad Tina Fey left SNL. She'd make a GREAT Sarah Palin in sketches! :)

I smell desperation!!!!

Well, call me cynical, but I think it's nothing more than a tactical move to pick up some of the disgruntled Hillary supporters. Just a ploy to get more female votes.

Woah is right Ross...there was some hint of it, can't remember where I saw it, maybe here, but I didn't think it would happen.

I know several "on the fencers" who were waiting to see who McCain picked as VP, because due to his age, that person could end up being President, and I don't think she will cut it there. Hopefully the Hillary supporters won't go there just because she is a woman...she is a conservative after all. But very interesting indeed!

Ross: This choice actually worries me a little. It can be used to blunt the Democrats' claim that theirs is the ticket of change and innovation.

They're wily rascals, those Republicans. I was sorry that John McCain came through in the primaries, as I actually thought he was the strongest candidate.

Sarah Palin is a quickly rising star up in Alaska, and she's going to cause some excitement at the convention next week.

More's the pity.

Meanwhile, Cathy, you're right! Chriann, I loved my marshmallows this morning.

There aren't very many people who can boast that they've chowed down on the party's candidate the morning after their acceptance speech.

But Michelle and I were up to the challenge!

Oh my he is reaching for stuff and he isn't as dumb as I thought. Scares me because I am Obama/Biden all the way! This won't be as easy a win as I had hoped for.
xoxo,
Janine the Queen of Seattle

Well I think this is a sad attempt for the Republicans to get some of Hilary's voters. Yes Palin is a woman but she is far too inexperienced, right winged, pro choice, ect. to get Hilary's votes. I like to think the Hilary supporters are far too intelligent to fall for that. Plus Hillary has asked that her supporters unite to get the republicans out this election.

Also I think it is a joke that McCain picked someone with such little experience. Is that not his best argument against Obama? Now he can kiss that one good bye. Oh well, he wasn't going to win anyway.

PS. I love you Obama.

I have been totally engrossed in US politics this morning...grateful for the opportunity to witness history in the making. Obama's speech gave me an overwhelming feeling of admiration. I was especially moved by his humility.

"We come nearest to the great when we are great in humility." - Rabindranath Tagore

I am less than underwhelmed by the republican candidate and see his choice of VP as a last ditch effort to sway the votes of those still clinging to an Obama/Clinton type of partnership.

Whabbear - you're a marshmallow! LOL

Happy Friday Ross and Bloggers!

I can't wait for the VP debates. I can just hear Joe Biden saying, "I know Hillary Clinton. She is a friend of mine. You, maam, are no Hillary Clinton.

First, I want to say I am a strong Democrat! That being said this is a brilliant move on McCain's part. OMG Imagine if Palin is the first female president. McCain is elderly, you know......

Very interesting. Can't wait 4 the debates!

Whoa is right! but I agree with Kris, he did this to grab as many women voters as possible.

I have to admit I hate politics, HOWEVER I had been so into this election. We need this change and I feel it finally is gonna happen for America.

I think Obama & Biden are going to be a great team. they have brought alot of emotions into this and it's been so interesting to watch the final stages. I don't even mind giving up Wheel of Fortune!

Happy Labor Day weekend ev1

I was just watching The View talk about Obama when breaking news came on to talk about Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska and Mother of 5 including a down syndrome child and a son in the Army who is going to Iraq.
I did not see this coming. Can this strategy work? This will be an interesting 9 weeks. I was a Clinton supporter but I see no similarities in Clinton and Palin.

Shock, that is what I am in right now. The only positive is that in January we will either have the first woman VP or the first AA President.
Change is good, but I don't agree with McCain's choice.

whabbear... all i can say is ROFLMAO

Regarding the Republican nomination. I don't like to discuss my political views with people that I don't know but I think it's safe for me to say that I'm sure there was some poli-sci algorithm that makes her nomination make sense. That decision is made by people who know way more about political suicide than I do :)
The naïve wife/mother/sister/aunt in me prays that she was not nominated solely on the fact that she is female (and younger). Although that seems to be how it appears.

"We are better country than this" B.Obama 8/28/08

I have to say McCain's choice is stimulating, shocking and has made a normally boring crusty race more exciting.

With all of that said, no matter what Obama or Clinton may say to the masses regarding actual EQUAL marriage rights for EVERYONE, the fact remains that they both believe that marriage 'should' be between a man and a woman. Separate but equal? Doesn't fly with me.

Dennis Kucinich is the ONLY one that unconditionally and whole heartedly believes in TRUE EQUALITY. Haven't heard of him? Not a surprise, but it's worth listening to some of his speeches through myspace or youtube.

I'm not one who settles for less. I do not put my beliefs behind a candidate that is "the lesser of two evils."

At this point, I see Biden as a conservative with a liberal/democratic label (I don't buy it) and now Sarah Pilan in potential second command? Interesting. If one pulls back to see the full picture, it's easy to see that what's going on is a big expensive Chess match.

PS Love u Ross! Had to end with the love cuz that's what you bring us every single day! Yes YOU MISTER!

BJ

I'd rather see Palin/McCain 2008. But, I'll take it.

Hi Whabb, beep, cg, etc. etc.. My life is crazy right now--haven't talked to you guys in forever. Can't wait to catch up.

Why on earth would REP or anyone for that matter think that putting a woman in as VP on the Ticket may somehow sway disgruntled Hillary supporters. They stand completely opposite on many issues. Good Grief we werent supporting Hillary because of her sexual organs, it was what she stood for.

If I hear that women that wanted Hillary and now going to vote for McCain just cause there is a "woman" on the ticket is about the stupidest thing Ive ever heard.

We are voting on Issues Period!
D'OH ;-)

I have been thinking about this since McCain announced his VP running mate. I wanted HILLARY!!! New Hampshire is Ted Kennedy's state ~ Hillary won NH and Ted came out for Obama!
Hillary won Calif., Shriver came out big for Obama. Shriver is best friends with Oprah. I was surprised at the Kennedy's. Was I the only one? Dems against Hillary ~ what poetic justice ~ I think this decision on McCain"s part is truly troubling for Obama.

Obama won the primaries in strong Republican states and those states are voting Republican come election time.
Hillary won in strong democratic states where Obama lost, but will probably win at the election. The key word here is probably. McCain is stronger due to this VP decision. I am still saying poetic justice to the Kennedys and to John Kerry (who also turned his back on Hillary while his state, Mass. went overwhelmingly for Hillary).
28% of the delegates at the convention wanted Hillary for VP and Obama turned his back.

POETIC JUSTICE

HI, Dr. Dan!

I wonder what McCain calls Palin when he's mad at her?

One other thought. My mother has always voted Republican. but she lives in Arizona, and will NOT vote for McCain. She HATES him, so at the primary this year, she voted for Obama.

If Obama had chosen Hillary, she would have voted for McCain, or not at all, because in her mind, Hillary in the White House means BILL is back in the white house, and she doesn't want that. I can't imagine she's the only one who feels this way about Bill.

I have to say that at the convention, I found myself wishing for Hillary a bit. Did anyone notice that she said she was a proud mother, and a proud New Yorker, and a proud American, but never said she was proud of Bill or of being a "proud wife?"

I like to think it was a slap at the hubby...but then, I hold grudges. I still think if he had kept little Willy in his pants, Hillary could have been president two terms ago!

Ok, John McCain probably chose HER only to attract independent voters..............BAD MOVE..........she only has 2 years of experience and so now the john mccain cannot backlash against barack obama criticizing his experience..ahahahah

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW

CHECKMATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

McCAIN/PALIN 2008!

~I knew Edie would be happy.
:)

Good Morning Peeps!

Sparkle,

Unfortunately, I have heard (on the news, and read in the newspaper opinion page) Hillary supporters say that they would vote for McCain if Obama didn't pick Hillary as VP. I don't understand it personally, because it seems obvious to me that the difference between a republican candidate and a democrat candidate is bigger than the difference between a male and a female, but there you have it.

I should have said "some Hillary supporters". Certainly not all, and not even most. I myself am a huge Hillary supporter, although I'm fine with Obama, too.

This is truly something! This person who has only spent 2 years as a governor is picked as VP??? So if McCain dies in office, this lady is our president?! Some people may be going, oh a woman how great! But this woman does not represent what woman believe in and are fighting for, especially those on the fence Clinton supporters! I think this choice says a great deal about McCain's judgment especially because the people a president surrounds him/her self with is what allows a president to run this country correctly. It is only downhill from here for the McCain camp. I have so many thoughts going on my mind, I can't even type straight. I mean this is a complete joke! I can't wait to hear reactions of some of these Republicans who hated McCain in the first place, and not to mention what the Obama's camp must be thinking right now saying, "let the games begin!!" This is great news for the democrats. Once we look past the fact that she is woman and yes this is history, but when we get to analyzing her and the ticket as a whole, and what she believes in, in contrast to what woman Clinton voters believe in, in contrast to McCain's anti-woman views, she offers NOTHING to McCain, no experience, nothing! I actually feel sorry for him and the whole party. This is something the democrats will be running with all the way to the white house!

A statement from Obama's spokesperson, Bill Burton:

"Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency," Obama spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement.

Burton also criticized Palin as a vice presidential pick for her support of oil drilling in the Alaskan wilderness and her anti-abortion stance, referring to the 1973 Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal in the United States.

"Governor Palin shares John McCain's commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush's failed economic policies. That's not the change we need, it's just more of the same," he said.

I cant believe that McCain is that smart...but she has to know that he is just using her because lets face it, if Obama was white and Hillary was never apart of the 08 election he would have NEVER picked a woman for VP!

She is from Alaska & he supports drilling in Alaska...how much sense does that make?!?

After the wonderful, inspiring speech last night by Obama he probably figured he had to do something to get back in the game.

I am scared that women democrats may change parties because of this....PLEASE DONT!!! She is trying to overturn Roe V Wade. Its horrible.

OBAMA/BIDEN 08!!!

I just have to add: I CANNOT WAIT for this Vice Presidential debate with Biden...OMG!

My thoughts are McCain is scrambling for the female vote who are still on the fence from Hillary not getting the nomination. Do I think it will work. No.

KRIS10 - I saw an e-card that says:

"Sorry your response to Hillary's loss is to potentially vote against your own beliefs on abortion, taxes, the Iraq War, and the Republican Party in general."

Anyone who supported Hillary, and also heard her speech the other night would have to be wacko to vote McCain just out of spite (cutting off your nose to spite your face...isn't that a saying?) Obama has been so inspiring all week long, I posted a note at last night's blog (the one Ross posted after Obama's speech). It's too long to post again here, but check it out if you feel like it.

GO OBAMA!!!!

KRIS10 (For clarification) since we don't know each other well, I should clarify, I was a big Hillary supporter. My boyfriend was all about Barack, and I was all about Hillary. We caucused here in MN, and have had many a friendly banter about who would be best. I was disappointed in her loss, but I have confidence that Barack can do the job, and well. He's the breath of fresh air we all need!

You guys are unbelievable! Gov. Palin has more experience as our VP pic than ANYTHING your PRES pic has ever done...WHAT, I ASK HAS NObama DONE???? PLEASE, someone answer the question! Sam Harris and I have been communicating and he does not agree with my politics, but he couldn't answer the question either...I respect that you think NObama is a "breath of fresh air" but, honestly, aren't your qualifications just a tad bit TOO LOW? You should demand specifics from your candidate and nobody does???? WHY??? As I told Sam, I understand your dilemma...you can't be specific because there is nothing there, there.

Very surprised. Really makes you wonder doesn't it. She is not experienced at all. If something happens to the President then the Vice President steps in. Would anyone trust her in that position with the little to no experience she has. You suppose McCain is just using the facts of her being a woman, her having a down syndrome child and her having a son going to Iraq? hmmmmm Is it wise to use someone just to get votes even if that person is not qualified. Crazy! It will be very interesting to say the least.

damien: very well put.

Just have to say...yet another reason McCain scares me.

Edie, what has McCain done?? Vote with Bush to attack Iraq?? That was great move....good enough reason to NOT vote for him. Please, you continue to rant about Obama and how he's done nothing, well tell me, what has McCain done to make him so much better?? I'm really interested to know.

Oh wait, he owns 7 homes....while the country he claims to love is in the midst of a recession, he's livin the high life. A guy who wants to give tax breaks to multimillion dollar corporations but doesn't give a crap about the middle class?? Yeah, thats a winner in my books...gimme a frickin break.

EDIE - if you didn't get specifics out of last night's speech, I'm not sure what else to say. I've followed your posts here (and at Sam's site) and I have to say, I respect everyone's right to an opinion, this is a great, free country. But, don't you find yourself getting responses that match yours in tone when you use such disrespectful language? Why not have an intellectual, respectful discussion and exchange of information. What, precicely is it about McSAME'S platform that gives you any hope for the future whatsoever?

I think Edie may be the only McCain supporter on the Ross Blog.

He is worse than Bush in my opinion and I have a shirt that says WORST PRESIDENT EVER...with Bush's picture on it.

That says something!

Yay, Yay, and more Yay. I hate that this blog has become so political, so I don't even read comments anymore, but, had to on this one. I loved Gov. Palin's list of things she has DONE. She didn't just vote present 130 times in 143 days in the Senate; she promised lower taxes, less government, and she delivered! We need more like her, so we don't have a country full of $70 mil bridges to nowhere!
And hats off to Brittney Spears' set designer who designed Obama's *temple*. How fitting.
Having spoken my piece, I will check back on the blog when it returns to a fun-loving, lighthearted Blog. If I wanted politics, I'd go to Politico.com
Good thing Big Brother is SO good, at least I still have that.
Have a great evening Blog Buddies, and to each his own opinion.

McCain couldn't find a Republican running mate that ISN'T already under investigation? Are the pickin's that slim?

This was a political move for their party...not for the country.

As others have noted, it's a transparent ploy to win Hillary's supporters. I can only hope that people realize the only thing Palin and Hillary have in common is hormones.

If a president's judgment counts, and I believe it counts for a lot, Obama chose wisely. McCain did not. While they both chose running mates to make up for what they don't possess, McCain could have done far better, and should have.

Funny how no one mentions the errors of Biden's past, and are so quick to judge Gov. Palin. I love the fact she's pro-life. She is of strong character and has more Executive experience than Obama. Someone mentioned Obama's all for human rights on this blog. Unfortunately, that doesn't include the lives of the unborn, even those who are still alive after partial birth abortion, where they are starved to death.

He dissed our soldiers during his visit in Afghanistan, rushing past them as they greeted him after coming off the plane, not extending his hands to those who reached out. Let them down in Landstuhl, Germany, cancelling his visit with the injured at the military hospital (friend personally witnessed his standoffishness in Afghanistan). He seems to make it sound like America is a third world country.

Senator Obama's speech last night was quite powerful. Although, I don't know where he can state McCain has no interest in capturing Osama bin Laden, wth? He sounded great, but I'm not convinced.

I was more touched by Sen. McCain introducing Gov. Palin as his V.P. running mate.

I may not be the sharpest tack in the box, but that's how I feel and I'm sticking to it.

HI kris 10 and thank you for your comments. I am an independant 4o yo from Utah of all states. I use to believe in pro life until I had a seriously deformed child in my uterus 6 years ago. I was angry at the mormon church for telling me what I had the right to do with my deformed child in utero. She would have been in pain and needed many surgeries from birth and on. After many talks with professionals and cried my eyes out, I didnt have an abortion but had her due to a kind doctor who let me have her natural with knowing the outcome. Her body was seriously disfigured and I ended the pregnacy with a broken heart and buried her. I have learned that NO ONE IS TO JUDGE WHAT IS RIGHT. ITS NO ONES BUSINESS WHAT YOU DO IN YOUR HOME. I have 4 other healthy older children who needed me to be there for them. THEY MATTER TOO!. PLUS I have a been a foster mom for many years and seen the sickness of children born without love or wanted. Abuse is so sickening and so rampant. These kids are so messed up. I could go on and on. Many gay couples have wanted to adopt these kinds of kids but its not Legal? MAKES ME WANT TO SCREAM! I think NO ONE HAS A RIGHT TO JUGDE ANYONE. WHO IS TO SAY THAT SAME SEX COUPLES ARENT SUPPOSE TO HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AS EVERY OTHER AMERICAN? They love each other all the same and should have the same rights. McCains new Vp nomination has such a one sided view. I was sickened when Hillary was not going to get the vp nomintation, but Barak has grown on me. I will vote for him. Gay rights is a HUGE ISSUE PPL. Forgive me for having such a strong opinion but ppl you just dont know till you have been there. I guess I have learned dont judge. Just go with your heart. Good is good. Wishing you all the best! I think its wonderful that we all have such stong feelings. AND ARE ABLE TO VOICE THEM FREELY! THANK YOU ROSS AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!

With John McCain now being 77 year old it is a real possibility if he is elected that he may become ill or worse. Is Palin ready to run this country? This really scares me and makes me want to work even harder to make sure Obama wins!

It is so true that ONE man can not "fix" all our problems, it takes ALL OF US, to help him. I will tell you what Obama has done for me.

I have become very active in my community. I work full time to earn a living, then I volunteer time to a local food bank, I am a leader for children in our local Awawa's Club, I am on the board of directors of the American Red Cross, I man the phone bank for the Democratic party once a week, and I do respite care for a 20 month old baby girl that lives with her grandmother because her mother is unable to care for her and her father is in jail.

Before Obama NOTHING!!

This man has inspired me to get off the couch and make a difference.

AND Sparkle you could not have said it better. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. I am sure he already has!!

I am a democtrat and in my opinion Gov. Palin is a fantastic choice for VP. Ok, I have to admit that at first I wasn't too sure about Palin. After doing some investigating on who she is, what's she's done, etc... I have to say I'm quite impressed with her. She's a class act & one tough cookie. I think Obama seems like a nice guy but his resume is too thin and I don't think he is ready to be president.

I'm sure it won't be long before the other ticket starts lining up to take shots at her for:

- having little public service experience

( She's got more executive experience than Obama. Palin served two terms on the Wasilla City Council from 1992 to 1996. In 1996, she challenged and defeated the incumbent mayor, criticizing wasteful spending and high taxes. Palin followed through on her campaign promises to reduce her own salary, and to reduce property taxes by 60%. She ran for re-election against the former mayor in 1999, winning by an even larger margin. Palin was also elected president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors. Obama the Jr Senator with no executive experience, who while in the senate has voted "Present" instead of yes or no 130 times, only TALKS about change. Sarah Palin in her short time as Governor of Alaska has MADE change.)

-being a Washington outsider

-owning guns

-supporting ANWR drilling ( which the voters in Alaska don't seem to have a problem with, since they, ummmm, ELECTED HER GOVERNOR!)

-being pro-life

Yup, got my popcorn all ready! What a fun 2 months we are going to have!

I am so sad that this blog is becoming so political. I come here to watch Ross because he is so uplifting and makes me laugh, which I desperately need. I am a republican, but I don't like McCain, just like I don't like Bush. Anyway, I really hope that this blog doesn't focus on politics a lot in the upcoming months. I want to read the fun, uplifting stuff!

Adding on, I guess I can't say that I don't like Mcain. I just don't know enough about him to say that I like him. I am going to do more research. I do know that I don't like Bush. Anyway, I still say that we need more fun stuff Ross!
