Happy Tuesday, blog buddies!

As I type this I am somewhere off the Western coast of Florida on a big big boat sitting in my room with the sliding glass door opened to my balcony, the breeze blowing in and the soothing sounds of the ocean making the entire cruising experience ridiculously authentic.

Until yesterday I had never been on a cruise.

I was, in all honesty, a bit nervous I wouldn’t be a cruise kinda guy.

It turns out I am.

I mean, like, big time. Like, “Hello my name is Ross and I’m a cruise-aholic.”

NO SHAME.

The people are amazing. The entertainment is amazing (Erasure last night). They have discos and bars and – get this – a karaoke bar named Dazzle.

Come on, people!!!

Don’t think for one second that I didn’t sing last night. I SO totally did. I have the voice of a freakin’ angel. Seriously, people were coming up to me today saying, “I heard you sang karaoke last night!”

People are talking and, ironically enough, the song I sang was Let’s Give Them Something to Talk About. It turns out I did!

So in case you don’t know, I’m on the R Family Cruise (aka: Rosie O’Donnell’s cruise).

After hopping onto a plane for an overnight flight from LA to Orlando and meeting up with my mom yesterday, we both got on the boat and planned on taking a nap immediately (neither one of us slept on the flight).

The second we stepped on board, however, we realized that there would be no napping. There was WAY too much to do!

First we got some breakfast, then unpacked, then we walked around the boat to familiarize ourselves with our surroundings.

Then Rosie asked us up to her suite to hang out with her and some friends (including Meg Tilly, her husband Don and Sharon Gless, all of whom are some of my new favorite people in the world).

Rosie’s room is AMAZING – seriously, it takes up like the entire top of the ship. SO neat!

Oh! And she let us be the very first people to ever watch a rough cut of her new documentary, “Celebrity Detox”.

You guys – it’s amazing. You get to see what was going on behind-the-scenes during all of the crazy times – from the end of her talk show, to the magazine lawsuit, to Taboo, to The View.

It really gives you a look into what celebrity is all about. Crazy!

Anyway, right now the ship is pulling into Key West for a day of on-land fun, so I’m finally getting cell and internet service again.

Oh! And Rosie and I are committed to doing a bunch of TALKY BLOGS on the boat. We did one yesterday, but getting an internet signal has been an issue so it won’t be up until later. Also, it will be on her blog, but it might not be on mine (because we shot it with her camera and I didn’t bring mine up to her room).

So keep checking her blog (www.rosie.com) in case I can’t post it on mine.

I am SO jealous, I LOVE to go on cruises. I went on one at the end of January and it was amazing. I hope you have a GREAT time, as I know you will. Just be careful of all that food LOL it can be very tempting.

Ross....I have been lucky enough to have gone on 2 cruises. I love them, and can not wait to go on another! My sister has been to Key West a couple times on cruises, and that is her favorite place! Have a great time today!

Going on my first cruise to Bermuda next year.

If time permits, you really should meet the "Bitch Sisters". They own and operate the Lightbourne Inn and are local celebrities. You would love them! My partner and I always stay there when visiting Key West. You must go to Mallory Square for sunset. Very interesting! Happy cruising to you and your mom! Cathy: Yes, We lived there 4 years. Left there in '96. We lived in Aliamanu (AMR). Hubby retires next year and I would LOVE to retire in Hawaii, but no such luck :( Still trying to convince him that he can use all his scuba gear again if we do.

this is probably going to be kinda long, so if you want to skip me, you surely can, and dont feel guilty.... :)

my brother and i have a great relationship. i mean, i love him, and i know that he loves me. he is very controlling, and thinks you should live your life they way he thinks you should live it. i never have lived my life the way he thinks i should have lived it. the decisions i have made wouldnt have been the decisions he would have made. some examples.. i got pregnant before i got married. i didtn go STAIT away to college, i took a year off. then, when i was 25, i sold a business, on a whim and moved to new york for about 2 years... i decided at lunch one day with a friend that i needed to see san fransisco, and we drove there that evening. i smoked... i had bad friends, i had bad relationships, i did somethings im not proud of now, but at the time... i was sorta crazy. (bad crowd - bad consiquinces - he bailed me out of jail.. he was horrified said "THOSE PEOPLE" alot. decided to go to culinary school... and he didnt ever think i would finish.. but i did. was an executive chef, and he never came to eat at the restaurant. there is alot.he always thinks of me as his screwup sister. loves me, but, he has never in the 5 years that my niece has been born, let me babysit her. he lets the maid, or some woman from her school do it, but not screwup stephanie. i think i have always been trying to prove to him that im worthy of his admiration? or respect. but never have quite gotten there. he is generous with limits. he gives my mom money so she can live like she wants too ( he isnt RICH RICH, but he is an accountant, like his wife (((DO NOT get me started on her.. she is NOT real (as in fake) friendly. my mom has MS, but to him, its all in her head. im sure you know the type. if your not bleeding out your eye balls, there isnt anything wrong with you.... ok?

so.. to come to my question..(finally) i have always been private about my medical stuff. it wasnt anyones concern ( i think) and i didnt want anyone to help me, or be involved in the decision making process, because, the CONTROLLING people will want to do whatever thier way, and that might not jive with what i was thinking. so, i never really let them in that way. i would always keep them updated, but i never LOOKED SICK... and i did the best i could not to ACT SICK. the cancer showed up when i first started culinary school, in 2003.. and i have been fighting it in different ways the whole time. except when i was pregnant of course. but, i never asked for help, i never told my brother much. i did a little chemo, and some radiation in the begining, but, the dose of chemo wasnt high enough (Thank G-d) that i lost hair. so.. you couldnt tell unless I TOLD YOU.
well, this time, its OBVIOUS that i have chemo.. I HAVE NO ENERGY, AND I DONT HAVE HAIR. and im married, and my husband sees that i throwup, and im sick.. i cant hide it. well, i called my brother the other day, and iwanted to FOR TEH FIRST TIME, really talk about it. (because i wanted to know if anything happened to me, and Kyu, if he would be Flowers gaurdian) and do you know what his response was???? .. "is this real, or is it a lie, like before?" WHAT?.... i couldnt believe it... a LIE????? yes, i can think of many many things i would like to be lying about... but, um.. no, not thiss.. its kinda OBVIOUS!! i have no HAIR and i PUKE MY GUTS OUT, most of the weekend. so i say, what do you want? PROOF? he says "whos your oncologist?" i say why, are you gonna call him he says "yeah".. im like WHAT?? he wont tell you anything, its confidential, and he says"well, i wanna talk to him, and see if your lying" i said ok fine... ill give him LIMITED consent. limited, as in a one time, one day, consent to establish, patient history, current diagnosis,and plan of care, and prognosis. OF WHICH I HAVE NEVER ASKED. i dont want to know the prognosis, i dont want to live my life that way. and i dont want people to treat me differently.
i was talking to my dad today, who my brother hates, and i know why, i understand why, and its justified, but thats between them, not with me.... anyway.. my dad said, why should you have to do that, what does it matter, he will just find something else to be conditional about.

THIS IS THE QUESTION/OPINION PART.. what do u think, do you think i should jump through the hoops and prove that i have cancer, to my brother? dont you think he should just be supportive, howerver I WANT him to be supportive? should it be his way? his decision on how he wants to be supportive? i dont know.... maybe im wrong, but i dont feel like it. the only thing im worried about is ruining what the relationship is with him.. and Flower not knowing him, he ONLY uncle.... i love him, and i want Flower to love him.. i just dont want to ever give him the opportunity to have him shade MY CHILDS opnion of her mother, but what he thinks of me.

please help.. im so.. confuised.

Flowers Mommy: Please find someone else to be Flowers guardian. Your brother will never change! Sad but true. You can try to span the bridge but do not put the baby into that kind of controlling atmosphere! I know of what I speak. She deserves better and he is the adult here if he wants a relationship with his niece he should establish it.

You do not need his negativity when you are in a battle for your life! If he does not believe so what! Do not give him your medical information it is none of his business. That once again is a control issue with him. There is no reasoning.

Think about a good friend or your husbands family for guardians anyone who would have your childs best interest at heart and would give her love and support!

Stephanie has every right to ask us for an opinion, many of us have been with her during her chemo, sleepless nights, and worrying about her life and future.

So, in my humble opinion, I think you should just forget about pleasing your brother, and conserve the lttle energy you have for Flower and Kyu.
From reading the post, there is nothing short of attending your funeral (not soon!!!) that will convince him of anything. So just move on and let him make the next move.
Let the ball be in his court.

And, for the RossLand regulars, I have heard Mom_Ross talk about STEAMERS, and now one of you commented about them to. Just what are Steamers? And where can I get some?

Happened to me just a minute ago. The first time it happened to me, I took it seriously and my feelings were hurt. I mean I was crushed. I thought it was something I had posted. And I am pretty harmless.

Flowers Mommy... okay, not to be mean or cruel, but your brother sounds like a jerk. If he can't give you his trust along with his love... if he can't give you the respect and courtesy, and the support you deserve without conditions, then he is not acceptable as a guardian for your sweet daughter. I'm sorry. I have three brothers, and I wouldn't allow two of them to have any say in my affairs were something to happen to me, family or not. The third brother I would -- he loves and accepts me for who I am and the choices I have made.
DON'T let your brother pry into your medical records. That would be a big mistakes.

I was the same way - I went on my first cruise with a bunch of friends and I thought I wouldn't like it at all. IT WAS FANTASTIC. I really loved it and we all had a great time. Cruises are good because you can be with friends and then go off on your own, depending on your mood. And instead of sitting in a car going from place to place, you are singing freakin' karaoke!!!

Hey flower, My brother has nothing to do with me. It became ugly, in fact he took out a restraining ordering stating I can never speak to him, his wife, sons or any future children he may have. This happened after my mother death.

I want to say cut your lose and move on, but i can't say that you will be losing any thing.

Stephanie, Tell your "Brother" and I use that term loosly cause he isn't acting like one, to go take a flying leap. You don't have to prove anything to anyone. Find yourself a good support system, like the good people here, and roll with the punches. Yes, you are going to have bad days, but you are going to get better. Think Positive. We ARE a family here and we care about each other and we are here for each other, remember that.

Flower's Mommy- my first thought is why would you ever want someone like that to be the guardian of your precious child? Love is unconditional and you should not to have to prove anything. The past is the past and unless you prove to have an ongoing problem with lies~ then there should be no issue. Pregnant before marriage? So what. Did you hurt anyone with your move to San Fran or your pregnancy or your smoking? Probably not, just yourself if there was an issue. That said I respect the fact that you want your brother to accept you and believe in you.

Please consider someone else to have the cherished honor of raising and guiding your beautiful child in the event that something happens to you and your husband. She deserves the best life has to offer and it doesn't sound like she will recieve the nuturing love from him.

Just my opinion and I am sorry you are hurting about this.

flowers mommy, were you asking your brother to be flowers guardian because you would seriously want him to raise her, or did you just ask as a way to open up communication again? & you thought that if you asked him to take your beloved flower in the event he needed to, that he would not question you? and just be supportive? I don't really think you want him to raise flower, you just want your brother to be there for you and supportive and to not be judgemental.

You know that we have ALL made mistakes and noone should be judging your past. You seem like a wonderful person now and that is all that should matter. Save yourself from the bad 'chi' your brother brings. You can still love your brother but perhaps it is best if you love him, (hmmm, what are the words in that Bette song?) "from a distance."
Laura- Ross did a talky blog a while back and he said, that he knows all about his blog buddies! Well, how would he know anything if his regular bloggers did not share their lives? You are entitled to your opinion, but Flower's mommy needs love and understanding sent her way, and I think (my opinion) that Ross is all about that.

I don't understand what reason your brother would need for you to prove you are really sick for him to accept guardianship of your daughter in the event of you and your husband's deaths. It makes no sense. Even if you were lying about the cancer, he wouldn't be obligated until your deaths.

I agree with the majority here. You DO NOT want him to be responsible for Flower if this is really a prerequisite for his guardianship.

I know I have never responded to you directly before. You may believe me to be imposing now and I understand.

After reading your post and Lynn D's response, I would agree with Lynn.

You are at a time where you need all the positive re-enforcement you can. You don't need to be expending energy to try to change your brother. It won't happen. His past has shown what his future will be. There is no pleasing him. Most certainly don't allow him your medical information or contact with doctors. If he can't take you at your word, speaking to the doctor he would think you put them up to it.

Use your energy getting yourself well, for your child & your husband.

You might be very surprised upon talking to friends that you & your husband trust, that they would be honoured to help you in this hard decision.

I say this re friends as I have recently done this. I am not in the health situation like yourself, but I am single & homecare Mom. Should something happen to me, I had to have arrangements made for her due to Alzheimer's. I have no siblings, but do have extended family. Would I consider them -- no. A few sound very much like your brother and the only thing they see is possible $$ -- Mom would be baggage to them.

You're having interaction with Lynn, she added her 2 cents. My thoughts are only worth a penny!!

BTW -- do not pay attention to the posters saying you should not post it here. You did the right thing -- you warned them at the beginning to skip it -- they didn't -- so TTTT (Tough *itty To Them!!)

I tried three times and got a message I never got before... not the old FOAD message, but one that said my post was being held for review or something. Well, I waited and refreshed and waited and refreshed. I read comments while I waited (including Stephanie's, so you know I waited a while) No one else mentioned this new message, so I decided to repost without my URL and that worked but my other one finally showed up, too.

Anyway, has anyone else seen that message before? Is it new because of the bad guys recently on here?

Stephanie, my two cents is that you should do whatever causes you the least stress in your life. I'm sure you'd like your brother's support for more than just a guardian in case something happens to you and your husband. He's your brother and that's a special relationship. But, it sounds as if he doesn't trust you whether he has good reason or not. Don't try to prove anything to him. Unfortunately, if you want him in your life, you have to accept that. Don't fight him. He'll learn to trust you, or he's not worth it.

How adorable was the Ross & Rosie show? They are having SUCH a good time. The meat and potatoes cracked me up - I'm still giggling at Ross's expression when she asked if he wears a speedo (and his face while she was saying why men shouldn't wear them around kids). They are too cute together!

The trip of a lifetime! Ross, enjoy every second of it! And a balcony? No inside room down in the bowels of the ship? Oh, live it up! You deserve it!

Good to see Mom_Ross, too....and if stomping on a mustard packet was the worst thing you ever did, you were one great kid. My son (11 at the time) made nitroglycerin last year and blew a humongous crater in the field across the road!

HOW FUN!! I just watched the Ross and Rosie Show (blog) on Rosie's site and then we get to come here and comment.

OK, how many of us chatters screamed out loud when Ross mentioned "Otter Pops!" Are't you Canucks glad I explained THAT one to ya? Mmmmmm hmmmmm....

I loved the talky blog! The highlight for me was when Rosie said people can go on her cruise "as long as they know all the words to Les Miz.

YAY, I qualify! :) Les Miz is my favorite musical! The other day I mentioned losing my heart dog, Cosette, to bone cancer last year. She was named after the little girl in Les Miz.

My Cosette was also rescued from an abusive home and adopted into a loving home so that's why I thought the name was fitting.

Flowers Mommy- please don't let the negative people stop you from commenting or posting anything personal. Those of us who are TRUE blog buddies want to share and help if we can, and offer support if we can do that too. It is the personal comments on this blog which make us "family". Ignore the rest. If they don't think we are "family", then let them go find a new "home". FWIW

It sounds like you are having a great time Ross. That is so good to hear. I also have never been on a cruise and am not sure I would enjoy it.
Mostly I just don't get into hot weather and beaches all that much.

So maybe if I do a cruise I should start with one to Alaska or Norway or something. Now if I could just find a way to fund it...

Usually, the first 100 or so posts deal mainly with Ross's blog, talky blog, or Topic of the Day.

Then, as the day goes on, Bloggers tend to veer off the subject at hand, talk about their families, lives, work, loves, heatbreaks, illnesses, etc.

That is what families do, they talk amongst themselves for support, encouragement, laughs, tears. And we here at Rossland feel as if we are a great big communal family. People very diverse, with strong opinions, but usually always very helpful and supportive to those who need it.

or SacBarb, who is recouperating now from a total knee replacement.
Moweenie, who just lost her job, these are just a few of our fellow bloggers who reached out for support and got it. And yes, Flowers' Mommy has been going through alot right now, and most of us are aware of her situation and send her love and hugs.

Of course there is also lots of laughter and huumor in this blog too. Just hang around when it gets late at night! What a hoot!!!

So, if you only want to comment about Ross's blog, feel free to do so, but don't try to tell others what to say or think or feel. OK?

Flower's Mommy: The thing I thought of after reading your question that I don't think anyone has said yet is--if your brother has that kind of lasting impression of you that he won't allow himself to revise after all this time, perhaps he would always feel negative toward Flower since she's your daughter. You know what I mean? Flower deserves to be with someone who loved her mommy and says wonderful things about her mommy, and who, of course, will love Flower!

Kevin T: I'm afraid of speedos even though I'm not a lesbian! When I was twelve my family was vacationing in Miami and a famous harmonica player was at the pool one day. My Mom wanted my sister and I to take a picture with him. He was wearing a speedo and I cried and begged her not to make me. When she asked why I said, "Because of that thing sticking out!!" Okay, I was kind of dorky at twelve! But I still don't like them to this day! Speedos that is! ;)

He is no longer welcomed if my mom is sick, he didn't get an invitation to my wedding, nothing. I am much happier that way. I have said he is my family but doesn't mean I have to like him.

Glynis - I so know what you mean about the otter pops. It was soooo funny to hear Ross mention them. He really must know what goes on in chat ;-)

Flower's Mommy--you prefaced your post by warning people to skip it if they weren't interested...there were only a couple of people--posting several times each--who had a problem with your post. I agree with the others that you weren't asking for a solution, just an opinion. I also say you don't need your brother's negativity. You shouldn't have to prove you're sick. I'd also be concerned that he would find out information you don't want to know and then tell it to you. I have a great deal of respect for you and how you're dealing with your situation. t time--I don't know where you're located but there are many movie theaters across the country that have free matinees for kids during the summer. AMC and Regal theater chains are two of them but there are a couple more. Try googling it. Also, a lot of libraries have free programs for kids during the summer, including story time and movies.

there isnt anamosity between my brother and i. we dont fight, we talk everyday, almost. he makes me laugh. i love him. he is great with Flower. he talks to her on the phone, (she is 5 1/2 months old) he sends her mail. he is a great uncle. its just that he thinks im crazy.

truthfully, im not. he is just a safe decision maker, and i fly by the seat of my pants. we are diametrically opposite people. i havent ever given him a reason to think i would lie about something. he is very controlling, and doesnt like conflict. this i think is what is so confusing. but your right, im not going to give him permission to talk to my doctors. he will jsut have to compartmentalize that part of my life into the box that says.. "my crazy screwup sister" i dont know how to expalin it, you would have to know him, and me.

So, after many years of independence and foolish pride, I can actually accept help from my friends (can't take money - even from relatives). It makes both of us feel better. Stephanie, Why not ask your brother to join you the next time you go in for your chemo. I went with a friend to keep her company. Nothing can prepare you for seeing a loved one hooked up to IV's and having bags that are all marked up with the word HAZARDOUS MATERIAL pouring into their veins. If you love him like you say you do, and you want him in your life, and Flower's life, then ask him to accompany you to an appt to keep you "company". This will open his eyes to what you are going through.

to others: if you have no regard for humanity, and are so vacant as to not understand what it means to be compassionate or if you have not one shred of human decency... then do not read the following portion! :[

flower's mommy: Try to think of the issue of naming a legal guardianship this way: You can ask someone to consider becoming your child's legal guardian w/ or w/o you being currently ill. I mean, your husband isn't ill and you very well may recover fully whether you think so or not. (YOU WILL :D - dagnabit!). After all, none of us knows what may happen tomorrow. And getting things in order regarding these issue is something every parent ought to consider (before the car accident, ya know?). People arrange for a legal guardian for their children in case of death all the time.

Meaning that the "prove you're ill" dialogue shouldn't really even have to matter if your brother seriously was thinking of your child's welfare first (which IMO is what you'd rather like to see in the person you name as his/her guardian). I mean, if you were perfectly healthy and asked him to be Flower's guardian, would he say 'Yes'? Or would his answer be contingent only on your current "level of illness"? You could respond to him by simply saying, "Whether you believe me or not, and regardless of my current health, would you ever, under any circumstances, want or agree to be Flower's legal guardian in the event of our deaths?" If he says, "Depends...if you're dying. Okay" that would indicate (to me anyway) that he's not thinking a whole lot about the overall welfare of your little Flower - even NOW (since Flower has a mommy who is sick). And what's that tell you about your brother? On the other hand, you may have thrown a whole lot of stuff at him all at once. And if he's a control freak, well, often they don't like that. They want to figure out and solve everything. Control means "order"- and some things are harder to solve or are in greater "disarray" than are other things - which throws off their whole ability be made vulnerable by immediately giving a more humane or emotional response (as we gad-about more-emotive spirits like it :D).

But I agree with momx5 (btw: Did a bell just go off? Does that mean you have 5 kids? :D): Is the point of asking your brother for Flower's sake or for your own (as to re-establish a relationship with him)? Either is a perfectly fine motivation. Its just, well, don't mix up the two issues in your mind too much. If you already know that he's "controlling", it should only make sense to you that he'll want to control this situation, too. As he seems to be doing! You seem to be allowing him to "control" to where your energies are going at the moment. So you either agree compliantly to "surrender" to that or you know it and move on. Because you aren't going to change people. Life isn't always a made-for-tv movie where people "come around" just because of tragedy (yet... just to confuse us all, sometimes they do). All you can do now is know that you put it all out there for him and whether or not he'll "come around" is only something he can put forward in return.

I feel like 'Dear Abby' - a most manly, Speedos-wearing Dear Abby of course. (What can I say? I've always had good feedback while wearing my Speedos) :)

Fmom:Im sorry to hear about your rocky relationship with your brother. Sounds like a one way street..You love him, but it doesnt sound like he has alot of "love" for you.The way he treats you, treated you in the past doesnt sound like love to me. IF he really cared about you, he wouldve offered to do whatever he could do.. The best advice i can give, is to focus on taking care of yourself..Enjoy precious moments with your daughter and husband..You cant change your brother...You just move on now..

yes i am the proud mom of 5 awesome kids! oldest is 15 only girl! & then 4 boys! 11,8,6,& almost 2! the baby was a souvenier we brought home from a ski trip! don't know what we'd do with out him though! never a dull moment around our house, chaos constantly, but lots of laughs, lots of love, and we are truly blessed. Even though i sometimes feel like I have 1 toe in the door to the the insane asylum!!! ;) lol

I just want to say thanks to all of those who sent well wishes to hubby. We just got some pretty good news. His last day was supposed to be on Thursday, but since they basically screwed him out of a job, they took him off the lay off list. He doesn't have a permanent job, but now has another 3 months to look for employment.

Flowers Mommy- I don't comment all that often, but I do read so I know your story. My husband was diagnosed with cancer Mother's Day of '06. Last summer was spent doing chemo and radiation. He was very sick, but he kept on going even when there was no hope, he was a very brave man. I wish he would have had the outlet you do for talking to people, it's healthier for you to get things off your chest. That is one less thing to eat at you so you can move ahead and focus on beating this thing. Please don't let a couple of people take that away from you. You need this blog, just as much as we need you to show us true courage.

Good points you make for Flower's mom. As a mother of two children my husband and I had to pick a guardian for our kids when we had to go out of the country. (That was 15 years ago!) When asking for guidance on who to pick as guardian, we were given the best advice. Pick someone that has the same or similar values as yourself, if you pick someone who is married-would you want their spouse to raise your child if something were to happen to the primary gaurdian, and do not pick someone who has conditions attached to them.

But back to the aesthetics of speedos... people, be very thankful you aren't a gay man in Palm Springs! Most of the resorts there are clothing optional, and many of the men are, shall we say, on the elderly side. And some of them are, shall we say, on the homely side.

All right, let's cut to the chase. I'm talking about trolls. An astonishing number of whom like to parade around after taking their speedos OFF.

Not that there's anything wrong with that..!

Dear Flower's Mommy,

I feel that there should be one question and one question only to your brother:

"Would you consider it an honour that you would welcome with open arms, to raise my child in the event of her becoming an orphan?"

Until you find the person who loves you, your child (even parents who want to adopt love their to-be children and their birthparents without ever having met them), who wants to raise your child and would consider it an honour and a priviledge to do so, do not give them this privilege and put her in a home where she is not wanted or fully celebrated.

Tell your brother that the above criteria is your only concern, and if he is interested you would be honoured to have him fulfill this role and you are so appreciative of his willingness to do so. Tell him that having said this, you feel that your current health status is not relevent in your opinion, and that either he is interested under any and all circumstances or he is not. You are not interested in placing her in hands that would have conditional acceptance of her. Therefore, you will not give him access to your health records.

Also reassure him that you do not judge his reasons for not wanting to raise her if he says no, as some people are called to be parents and some are not, life circumstances and callings are different for everyone, and you respect the place that he is in right now. If he already has children but is not in a place to have more you respect his position and don't want him to accept your daughter out of guilt. You want her in hands that would thank God for this gift that circumstances led to them receiving.

Aside from this custody issue, tell him that you are interested in healing your relationship with him which has led to him doubting your honesty regarding your health, with both of you taking responsibilty for your roles while still respecting eachother's rights to live your lives according to your unique callings.

God Bless you Flower's Mommy, your precious little Angel girl and your husband. Life has presented you with this challenge and what a blessing it would be to have a healed relationship with your brother through this catalyst of your illness, and hopefully healing between your brother and father could even transpire. Healing is available to all of you right now. Receive it. It is abundantly yours.

I will confess though that some (most) of my fellow males definitely do not belong anywhere near a Speedo (or even an activewear store in the business of peddling the dern things).

So why do some men pull on a pair anyway?

For sick attention.

Its like this: Some men think that if they got all dat in the fronts of them, it don't much matter what they gots in the trunk of them (and I do mean "booty, I mean, "butt") - nevermind what they got falling outta the roof rack or being flung out of the windows.

Cuz to some men, its all and only about the front (baby).

And ironically, thats the same reason why other men REFUSE to wear them. Many men are often afraid to draw eyes to themselves "down there" (hence, the invention of baggy swimsuit...and the neck tattoo). That zone is often the Achilles Heel of many men (I have now empowered one more woman in the world with that tidbit).

But my real theory as to why "good Speedos happen to bad people", is this: You know how advertisers slap a young, pretty, wrinkle-free girl on the label of a very expensive age-defying creme?

Well, some men fall for that same line of false promises, too! :D

Looking at a Speedo package (the one in the store and not one at at the pool, mind you) a certain type of man (who is clearly better suited for the baggy woolenwear of 1901 Brighton, let's say), will figure "Gee, Speedos look so good on that Aussie lifeguard ...so obviously they'll make me look that good too!"

Yes. of course it doesn't work.

But that doesn't stop them from trying because, again, all they're really looking at (and hoping for) is the impression they make in the front.

Men are essentially narcissists, don't forget (and another arrow is placed into a woman's quiver!)

In all seriousness though, I mostly wear Speedos to keep the jellyfish out of my shorts! :)

And when in the ocean, do you have any idea how many things can swim their way up a baggy leg opening? YIKES! Men may like fish - but not there!

And do you have any idea how heavy, floaty and generally "unruly" a regular suit can become once wet and in combat with the undertow? Well, a well-fitted Speedo can stand up (sure can) to a mighty wave while "mere mortal" non-Speedo men are sometimes stuck in the surf for HOURS as they wait for their trunks to finally wash ashore!

On the speedo front (tee hee) someone told my brother-in-law that he was built for a Speedo, so now he wears when one whenever he goes on vacation. Picture this kids- 50, more nose, ears and eyebrow hair then hair on the top of his head. And instead of a "six-pack" the man has a keg. Love him, but there should be a law....

When I first started reading this blog a long time ago, I also thought that personal problems should not be addressed on an entertainment blog. But, over time, I realized that often people feel like they have nowhere else to go or no one else to listen. They experience the warm and friendly environment that Ross has created, and they do feel at home. If they reach out to us, why in the world would we want to turn them away? What possible good could come from that? Often, all someone needs is a little encouragement or just the knowledge that someone else cares...that little effort can bring unbelievable change. Then, the person may find the strength to get the professional help they need. While I believe that we should have blog boundaries, I also think a supportive nudge will go a lot farther than a cruel shove.

Most women without buns of steel are sane and realize they can't truck around in string bikinis. Seriously, how many 70 year old women strut their stuff like that?!!! On the rare occasion sagging women do mistakenly wear swimsuits imprudently, they usually wear cover-ups too. Why don't more speedos have little cover-ups? Or best yet, layer loose shorts over the speedos?

This is my opinion... It's true we all have one but I must say, if there is one thing true about me it is that I give FABULOUS advise.

You, right now, are in a position that all of your available energy needs to go into your recovery, raising your baby girl and just getting threw this phase of your life.

Negativity will drain energy from you and quite frankly... you can not afford that right now. Your brother can believe you or not believe you. You need to stay focused on your health and the joy of that baby girl and that delicious Hubby or yours. I believe your word was "Yummy". Yes... like I said...

My point is this... If your bro can't provide that positive energy right now... avoid getting too deep into that subject until you feel you have to. You may never need to.

Remember what I told you...

Claim that healing and TAKE it!

I know a little girl that was 10 yrs old with stage 4 ovarian cancer and she was so close to dying nobody thought she could possibly survive what the chemo was doing to her body. She's 14 now. Cancer FREE. God Bless her. Claim it... and take it.

I hope you have a GREAT time. I think I know how you must feel. I took my sickly 78 year old mother on Rosie’s cruise for her birthday, when Ro became Godmother to the Pearl. last December.

Mom and I ran into Rosie in a hallway with an entourage of 50 following her with a camera and boom mic. I thought they were going to run my poor mother over as she clutched her walker! They were loud and moving quickly. But when Rosie stopped behind mom (mom was facing back towards the group and didn’t see them coming) A hush settled over the hall and I told my mom to turn around.

Rosie was calm and in a quiet whisper held out her hand and said, “Hello Mam, what’s your name?” Well that’s all it took to turn a dying woman into a 20 year old again.

We had to go to the show. Mom got in line 2 hours early with her walker just to sit up front. Mom kept saying, “Rosie promised to be funny for me... for my birthday!” And she was.

As the show went on some dancing boys came out in black spandex. Mom was like a school girl. Then I here…”Look at the butts on those boys!!!” out of my mothers mouth!!!

“Who is this woman?” I thought. She’s had more energy today then she had all last week!

After the show we had to gamble, mom had a few drinks. Passengers were giving her gifts (stuffed animals given out at the show) I have NEVER seen my mom like this!

I had to drag her back to the cabin before she killed herself with too much fun. As I hooked her up to her oxygen and put her to bed. She said, “Maybe we can do a whole week in the spring!” She passed right out after that.

It was a grand trip for both, Rosie, Kel, and her staff being so kind to mom. I’ll have to hire 3 young guys in black spandex every six mouths just to keep mom going! I hope you have the grand time we did!

Another success story! I too have lost my father to that nasty disease. But I recently was named as medical power of attorney for a friend that really didn't want to know how "bad" it was and knew that I had previous experience with diagnosis talk, possible treatments, type of treatments, etc....
He was 4th stage Lymphoma which had matasticized to his liver (rarely overcome), on top of that he had 2 other major medical problems. By the hands of fate, alot of decision making, alot of "googleing" and his ability to stay positive he is now in remission and cancer free! I thank my higher power that I made all the seemingly correct choices for him, and that he felt enough trust in me to make those choices for him. But He surrounded himself with loving friends, family, and his faith. I think those played as great a part as the western medicine that was pumped thru his veins did. And when I say he surrounded himself, he chose friends mostly as his family doesn't always agree with his choices in life. He loves his family and I am sure he loves them, but what he needed was a calm circle of love to help him thru a dark period.
Sorry for the long post, just would like to let you know that positivity is a great thing, and the majority of the bloggers here care, and will offer you what they can and it sound like they will very willingly and without hesitation. Hoping you feel better as each day comes. Tell your husband and Flower that they are lucky to have YOU in their life as you are to have them in yours...

Just thinkin...perhaps we should be the judge of your speedo warrior-dom. You could give us a video of your super speedo wearing shennanigans - at the beach, on the landing, in in the fields, streets and hills. Then, perhaps as your loyal subjects we could elevate you from knight to KING. As King, you could command that all speedo wearers must meet certain requirements or be banished to an island all their own, saving our eyesight (and lunches). Of course, I would be the Princess of Thongdom!

I live here and have had the undesirable position of being an innocent beach stroller and then losing my vision because of people that believe they still have the bodies of God's or Goddess's. I am sure you look just fine in your speedo though, however, I had a friend that tell me they chfe in them, (combo of saltwater and slightly scrunchy swimwear)Is it true?

Stephanie Flower's mommy, I've waited and read all day about your "brother" post. I think you shouldn't be thinking about a guardian right now. Live each day as if you were going to be 100 years old. Think postive thoughts - focus on the chemo destroying the cancer cells and leaving the good ones. A long time ago, I remember someone suggested watching cartoons or a video that will make you LAUGH. I like the suggestion that was made about having your brother accompany you to the next chemo appointment. Once he sees what you are living, he could come around. Whichever way he goes, YOU need to think positive thoughts and keep yourself in an upbeat mood.

i just came from the pre-screening of Harry Potter with my 3kids ages 15, 9, 7. my 15 and 9 year old loved it. my 7 year old was scared a few times. Great movie though just a heads up for everyone the little ones may be afraid.

I am getting married in 3 weeks. I come into this chat and blog to excape the stress that i have. I found some amazing friends who honestly, truely care for me. Friends that when i was having an anxiety attack in the middle of the night, were there in a heartbeat to calm my fears. If you do not call this wonderful group of people FAMILY, then i don't know what you can call family.

DonnaJean and Janice: I agree. This Speedo discussion sure has been over-flowing with information. And it's really packed a punch. Who knew a topic could be so revealing? You wouldn't think that so many people would put forth so much - and in public! But here we can see that many people will share what they have to offer (and share it amply and without apology)! I'm grateful to Ross for this blog opportunity to lay it all out there (even if it seems to have been pushed into some peoples' faces). Sometimes though, its a good learning experience to be confronted with the stance of others,no matter how shocking - or cocky - that stance may be (or even if its only vain posturing on their part). And it can be a real growing experience to stand up and make such a big statement before a crowd. For you risk making a mighty impression on others that way - just by letting them see who it is you really are (while you call upon every inch of personal mettle as to share so boldly such things). And it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that there are people who won't - can't - look away when such a person stands proudly before them as to say, "People have bumpy parts. Even men. Do not fear!".

I can honestly say i enjoy the chaos! and savor every baby moment they grow tooo fast. that said, they always move on to a cute phase. I think i'm like every mom out there I think my kids are so cool. I just love kids though. when i was little and teachers or anyone would ask me what i wanted to be when i grew up i'd answer a mommy! you have a precious flower and are truly blessed!

MOMX5 -- OH MY Goodness, we have been so lucky. she has always slept "thru the night" when she was intil about 4 months old, if we fed her at 11 or so, she would sleep until about 5, which was nice. no, she is 5 1/2 months old, we still feed her at 11 or so, and she iwll sleep unitl abnout 830 or 8 am. which is great for me when i cant sleep at night.

KGIRL -oh, he has alwayus blessed me with "air entertainment" its not a new thing, just sometimes.... holy crapmaster... its loud and LONG!!!! soemtimes it wakes him up.. LOL

peppers can be dangerous. the capsazin in them can litterally burn your skin. when i was in culinary school, this guy was trying to be cute, and he held a hanbanero in his mouth for about 5 minutes, and it took the skin off his tongue....

Hatch chilies are more flavorful than they are hot... Hatch is a town in NM where they have a very famous chili festival.

I've been lucky enough to stay home with our kids too. thank goodness it was important to my husband that i was able to do that. Until the baby came along I was looking forward to everyone being in school all day so I could either get a job or go back to school, but God had another plan! we went on a ski trip 12-2004 and I found out in jan 05 that we had brought something else back w/us from Colorado! & now we have Jj & I don't know what we ever did w/out him!

Don't know what halfprice book is, but i have seen it at used bookstores here, if you cannot find it i have a spare copy i could mail to you if it sounds like something you would be interested in

i love being a sahm. my wonderful husband told me that it would be ok with hhim if i stayed home. so he works a job that he hates, just so we can give Flower me, aoll day.lim so greatful to him. i mean, really, i made about 3 times what he does, but, we didtn comingle money until we got married in march. we have lived together since jan of 206.

speaking of vacations and souveniers.. we took a vacation last may-june for a month, and went to the grande canyon, and roswell, and south padre island, and we brought back Flower.

you are just amazingly funny, brilliant and nice and all. you're mom is a darling, a mother that everyone wish would have.

i've always been a fan of rosie more so when she was the queen of nice. i have to admit being a happily (same sex) married myself i don't agree with w/ all of rosie's opinions and beliefs but i really admire her dearly. i respect her opinion and conviction on what she believes in. she's funny and you both just work soooo well together. the push pin experience and speedo is just hilarious and real. no wonder people love you both - can't get any real than that whom any one can relate. such an inspiration to watch.

I wanted to test, as there are 654 comments on the home page, but there is 482 comments here, after I refreshed 10 times! So just wanted to see if this is working.

It looks like the Rosie cruise has reporters on the ship. The Entertainment shows are reciting from her comedy act, and have pictures. I wish they could just enjoy their vacation, instead of being under the scrutiny of paparazzi! Just my pet peeve for the day.

Just Asking? (and just because I'm asking, does NOT mean I am being negative, just curious.)

Was the "Comment" section created for those who would like to share a variety of comments? (mostly pertaining to a common admiration of Ross.) And, was the "Chat" section created for those who would like to pursue more conversation with different folks about a variety of subjects?

If that is the case, then pehaps some of us need to use the different areas more appropriately. Consideration and thoughtfulness are always appreciated.

i agree that there are other areas for comments NOT pertaining to Ross or questions about Ross and his likes, dislikes, etc... hopefully he will limit questions and comments to a certain number of characters and only one post per person per day (Like Rosie) and we can stop hearing about everyones personal problems! Ross - you are adorable and funny and i look forward to learning more about YOU!

You know, when I offered the suggestion of the chatroom last night, it wasn't meant as anything more than "Hey, you all are talking out here, while there are 10 people in chat that are talking... why not get together and have a middle of the night chat fest." I never thought it would get nasty and ugly on both sides. I am sorry I even brought it up at all.

This has always been a friendly and fun place. It is what Ross wants. It is HIS blog and it is HIS vision that we continue to have a place for people to come together and meet, discuss things, etc in a fun and happy atmosphere. ldownmama and nesser: slush time was going to be about 2:00 p.m. However, I just swept out my garage, and am sweating like a pig (humidity) and I may not be able to wait until my slush gets slushy! Yeah, I can serve it with an umbrella, 'cept the only umbrella I have is one I use on the golf course. It's gonna have to be one big slush!! :)

Reading the tantrums about the comment postings and how they should be restricted, my first thought was:

When you're name is on the Blog Header, then you can set the rules. So if you have a desire to control -- go for it. Fortunately for you, you won't find most of us on your blog!!

I too hope Ross never changes it to same as Rosie's site as she has a counter for the questions submitted & times I have seen over 2,000 and she picks maybe 12 to answer, many of which are basically the same each time. To see the "pick me, pick me, you never answer me" and they don't ask or say anything but that anyways. Or the ones she answers with now 'green tea' or 'fig newton'. I don't need to read another gay slur or how can you say you support the troops. Other than her talkies, it's not a fun site. It gets old very quickly.

The same would happen here if all that was posted was "Hi Ross, hope you're having a good time". How many ways can the same statement be posted?

Seems like there are people who have ability to step outside the box (BB's) and those that can't which to me would make life very boring.

Donna Jean: If you want to beat the heat while you're watching Ross' talky blog, try this: Vodka Slush:

Boil 7 c. water and 1 c. sugar for two minutes, and let cool. Steep 2 tea bags in 1 c. water and let cool. Combine all of this in a large container, add 1 large can concentrated orange juice and 1 large can lemondade concentrate. Add 3c. vodka. Mix well. Put in freezer, stirring (and tasting, ha!) occasionally. When the mixture gets slushy, fill a glass about 2/3 full. Pour a little Sprite over, mix well....and COOL OFF!!!

It is so yummy and refreshing. Hope I haven't offended anyone by posting the recipe here, but enjoy!!

I watched the "John and Ross Show"!

But that's not what I wanted to say.

(Its radically amazing how different Ross' presence is now post CFC, isn't it, BTW)?

What I really liked about the
"show" was that it operated on various levels. I think that just may be the "hook".

Its silly but also really showed the inner-workings (to some degree) of something (in that case, TTS). Thats what makes it interesting (besides the actual chuckles).

You guys are on the right track because on the Internet esp (but also on t.v. I suppose, what with TLC and all) ppl want to be entertained but also informed - or to come away from something having "learned" something (or at least having the perception that they've learned something).

So that was what I esp. liked about it. :)

I just thought I'd let you know that, Daria (and Ross, too, if you're popping in between shuffleboard and conga lessons) :D

Also: Please tell John that "we" are always amazed and thrilled to see how far he's come. Its almost like he's a different person from the one I recall from years ago in another incarnation and another show. Kudos to John!

With the exception of he rude and nasty comments made here I like reading all the post. But my question is what difference does it make if Kevin T (and I really like your posts, they are very funny,don't get mad) spends alot of blog space talking about speedos, or tah tahs or whatever and Flower's mummy and the Hawaii girls are just chatting in the middle of the night. Is there a difference that I don't see? Please explain.

I was actually also up in the middle of the night -- reading the comments and it did NOT offend me at all. I usually don't write because I'm fairly new here.

I enjoyed reading the comments and knowing that I wasn't the only one having a hard time sleeping. We all come to this blog because we have something in common - we enjoy Ross and his positive, accepting, uplifting attitude. So, we are a community that has that in common. I don't think Ross would have an issue with folks that have something in common with him, talking to one another about things off topic.

Apparently it bothers some that we aren't following 'the rules' ie Comment Section for Comments, and use the Chat Section for Chat --- however, I think it's also been discussed time and time again (so maybe the negatives yesterday are more new to this site than me?)...

Not everyone likes to go to Chat -- either fear of viruses or the dizzy syndrome (which I get sometimes too).

I wish there was an 'in between' place --- that's why I threw out the idea of using the prior day's blog as a 'in between' place for the Chat-Blog or Blog-Chat, if you will. : )

Aol, Yahoo, and AIM all have instant messages where you might be comfortable sharing with your other sleepless buds.On MSN you can invite other people to join your conversation and donate for some good causes while your at it.
I don't think anyone here is trying to be nasty or offensive. It is hard to assume emotions when you write and don't speak in person to each other.
We don't want anyone to leave we are just trying to make the parameters of this Blog work for all of us which is Ross' intent.Fun and friendship.

And seriously... all of you who are afraid of chat because it moves too fast- the middle of the night is a great time to try it. There are usually only a few in there, so it's a bit easier to keep up. AND if say, myself & Diva are just wanting to chat with each other, we can IM each other and have our own little chat fest.
