Happy Monday, blog buddies!

After a great night's sleep, I'm back at work this morning chugging through and trying to pretend that I'm not still totally sleep-deprived and worn down.

Coffee helps.

Truth be told, I feel pretty good after what was an insanely busy weekend full of both work and fun.

Here I am with the Tonight Show crew who came with me to shoot the segment.

From left to right: Alan, Scott, Mark, me, Gina, Kevin, Anthony and a hidden Isaias.

Then I interviewed two Playboy bunnies who were very nice and sweet, although I still haven't quite figured out why they were at the Kentucky Derby. Whatever the reason, I'm glad they were there!

Then I got all dressed up in my fancy Kentucky Derby outfit. I wanted to look like a total Southern gentleman complete with bow tie and a customary Kentucky Derby hat. Here I am in my fancy suit with my co-worker Gina who happens to be a HUGE horse racing fan.

Here I am meeting Chef Gill - he's the guy who creates the menu and also served the Queen - YES THE QUEEN - tea.

Then Chris, a bourbon expert guy, taught me how to correctly taste different types of bourbon. Then I stole his $1000 mint julep. Seriously. They were selling $1000 mint juleps.

I said, "Umm, it better come with ice-cubes of gold."

Turns out it came in a 24-karat gold cup.

I didn't really steal it. I gave it back. But I thought about it. :)

Then it was time for the Derby to begin. Here's a shot of the track where the horses run.

The actual Kentucky Derby isn't the only race of the day. In fact, there are 12 races that day and a bunch more the day before.

If you read the RossBlog on the regular, you know that I'm a sort of a gamblin' man. Well, I play the penny slots whenever I go to a casino.

I was a high roller this weekend when I bet a whopping $10 on a horse in the big race.

And guess what. Guess. You'll never guess.

My horse won! And I won $49!!!

Can you believe that?!? I was so so so excited! Maybe a little too excited? I kept getting flashbacks of that episode of Golden Girls when Dorothy gets addicted to betting on horse races and Rose has to call her out.

Promise, blog buddies, that you'll be my Rose if I suddenly turn into a horse race junkie?

Also during my derby weekend I went to a few parties including the Barnstable Brown Party (which I couldn't remember and kept calling the "Berenstain Bear Party").

I accidentally forgot my camera, so I didn't take any pictures with the TONS of celebrities I met and hung out with that night (including Joey Fatone, Apollo Anton Ohno, our blog buddy Jenny McCarthy and Kid Rock). Oopsies!

But Gina snapped this picture of me with Scott Speedman, aka "Ben" from Felicity.

Later that night I ran into my friend (and star of Hero's) Greg Grunberg, aka "Sean" from Felicity.

OH MY GOD I MISS THAT SHOW!

And, finally, do you think I got a chance to meet the Queen? Do you? Hmmm... you'll have to wait to find out. I will tell you, though, that I got pretty close. :)

Anyway, I have a ton of crap to get done before I run home to clean my house because I have a photo shoot in my living room tomorrow morning at 8am for Animal Fair Magazine. More info to come...

OH! And did you watch Celebrity Fit Club last night?!? Yeah yeah yeah... I only lost 1 pound that episode, but I promise my plateau won't last long! Keep watching - it gets REALLY REALLY good and I might even become an even bigger leader soon! :)

I watched CFC today online. Okay...Dustin...are there any redeeming qualities at all? I couldn't stand having to be around someone like that, at least from what I've seen so far. And I must say I was surprised to hear Kimberly Locke drop the F bomb. A few times. Online nothing is bleeped. I love to watch, though. It is very inspiring to see the ones that are there for the right reasons pressing on so hard. I can't wait to see next week!!!

Wow Ross. It looks like you had a great time. I went to the Emerald Downs race track a few years ago and I lost. Oops. But I can so so close to hitting it big. I bet on every race and kept losing and losing. Then I decided to save my money and watch. I picked a horse that was expected to lose big time and it freakin' won. Grrrrr. I could have won $52 on a $2 bet. Oh well. No more horse races for me.

I watch enough A&E Intervention to be able to be your Rose anytime. Whenever you need a friend to call you out!

CFC was great last night, I love all the drama. Plateau's happen to everyone when you are losing weight. Anyone who has had to go through it knows first hand.

I am proud to say that after my 1st week back at weight watcher's (after a 9 month absence) I lost 6lbs. I feel so much better eating healthy and exercising.

You are an inspiration to all!!

Since I don't do coffee-diet coke is my save-all!!

Yes I will be there during the show in the park with Kelly Clarkson. The folks at the show told me today that after the filming of the show Kelly is going to perform 4 or 5 songs for us in a mini-concert. I am super excited!!!

Don't we come to the blog because it is a positive fun place to meet and have community. It is positive because Ross has set that tone ...

Lets get back to that.

I for one will not be staying around here if its going to disintegrate into a negative, critical, squabbling space! I work really hard to be positive and keep my life that way ... if the blog is going to change its tone to negativity and drama ... I won't be coming back.

Good time in the chat this evening. Just got home from my trip to Phoenix. Ross, I am telling you, ditch NW Airlines, and try Delta. Again, I had a hot lunch and great movie in first class.. You deserve it!

Bradley, we have never chatted, but I hope Ellen has a super give away for her audience the day you are there. I know someone else who was there on her 12 days of giveaways shows for Xmas and walked out with about $750 in goodies!

Back to Ross ( since this is his blog ) the CFC episode last night was good, but I hate that they kept giving Dustin what he wanted, more face time with all his drama. I commend you for not getting in the drama, and I am glad he didnt' say anything about you. That would have pissed me off.

Whabbear ... Yes, I have played in the Peach a couple of times. The first time I played in it I made it to the finals of the 4.5 doubles with a partner I had only played with a couple of times. We beat 2 seeded teams and were really playing well. We have a huge G & L league here called ATTA, so most everyone in the league plays the peach. You guys ever come and play in it?

Great photos Ross...you look so GQ in the suit! Bravo on the successful wagering as well. You should try Santa Anita sometime, it's a gorgeous facility and close to home. I've only been there a few times but I've always left with more money than I brought. I'm so with you on the penny machines. I have a friend whose birthday is the day after mine...around Thanksgiving. We're both single and our families live out of state. Because of the Thanksgiving holiday it seems all friends have family plans...so 5 years ago we decided "screw-it", it's our birthdays and we're going to have some fun so we hit Las Vegas...usually the Sunday - Wednesday before the holiday. The town is deserted, rates are low and we've always managed to book spa & show tickets. Every year we stay someplace different: Luxor, The Venetian, THE Hotel at Mandalay Bay (the best room by far) and last year we went off-strip and did the Marriot in Summerlin (most successful gambling for both of us). We haven't decided where we're staying this year...it's a biggie as I will hit the "Big Five-Oh". (Where did all the time go?)

I am including anybody making efforts to be healthier, not just weight loss. So people eating healthier, getting more exercise, etc.
Several people had a head start and are making tremendous progress.
Best of all, you guys keep me motivated. That and the fact I have to use a crowbar to get into last years summer cloths.

Miss Manners yes the bees are very cool! I love, love , love them!
In general they are very gentle.
Some times they can be very aggressive such as when they have been attacked by skunks, opossums or yellow jackets.
The Africanized bees are very aggressive, similar to yellow jackets. They stay in the south; they can not survive up above the frost line.
I just went to pick up new hives this last weekend, hundreds of hives all over the place and I didn't get stung once.
In the summer I wear white tee shirts all the time. the honey bees will land on me and just hang out, they give themselves a nice bath and visit for a few minutes than fly off.
I learn an enormous amount just by staying still and watching them.
By June each hive will have about 80,000 bees per hive, They only live about 1 month

To all who are becoming discouraged by recent drama--

I have been a part of this blog from the beginning...when Rossalicious was in Torino. In that time, I have seen a lot of people come and go: some that have caused drama, some that have left because of it, and some that just weren't about what this blog was about. That's fine...part of life, really. When hundreds of people are brought together, be it in person or online, personalities clash, and people get ugly. But what we have to do is move above it. Ignore it; because the other thing that I have seen in the time that I have been here is friendships forged, relationships cemented, and a bond formed among all of us that transcends a chatroom. We have laughed, cried, cheered, encouraged, prayed and yelled together, most of us for over a year. I guess what I'm saying is that the drama comes and goes, and what we have to do to stay sane is ride it out...trust me, it won't last. And isn't this place worth riding it out?

I have been going to the gym everyday, even though I haven't wanted to. But Ross did it everyday, even when he didn't want to and it worked for him so I am doing it also.

I love suits and have never bought a white one. Ross looks so good in that suit I want to get small enough to buy a white suit.

I second that Trish had an awesome post. I new within the last two weeks to the blog, and haven't really "got to know" anyone, but I really look forward to it. Life is drama right? And, people come and go in our lives, but those who can hang in through the thick and thin of things, those are the people that are worth surrounding yourself with.
As my father used to tell me...opinion's are like AHoles everyone's got one. And, if you realize that, and know that what your opinion is might not be what someone else's opinion is and you can deal with it, then you will go far. On the other hand...if you think you always have the right opinion...then I for one don't need to surround myself with that negative energy.

The one thing that I have loved about Ross since I first saw him was his positive energy, and thus drew me to this blog and to actually post. The energy is AWESOME!!

O, I am done with my opinion today.

It just cracks me up that golfer Charles Howell III gets called "Thurston" from the gallery! Apparently, he hates it!

But... being evil and perverse... I would just love to attend a PGA event, follow him around the course, and shout out "You go, THURSTON!" at every opportunity! LOL!

I also keep a bag full of celery and carrots for the "must stuff my face" moments. Not exciting but it works.

Auntie Em - so glad you are safe. I can't imagine the terror of living thru a tornado. We just have earthquakes, but they don't last long.

Hy - I learned more about the bees in our newspaper the past week - it is scary about the "disease" wiping out lots of them! I never knew how important and needed they were! Oh - I haven't weighed myself lately (as weight isn't the big issue) but I HAVE totally been walking every single day since the first day I said I would! And my legs are tired!!

there is a book about bees of the world that is the most interesting, for expert and laymen alike, if its bees you want to know about.
Wasps are a whole different family so there are separate books on that subject.
There are several guides to insects in general, so let me know what your interest and I will suggest some books and where to get them.
Many women are now becoming bee keepers.

Oh ya, about the allergies:
The allergy is a sensitivity you can only acquire through having been stung at least once by a specific type of bee or wasp.
The venom is made of protein enzymes. Each creature has a different venom. so you can be allergic to one but may or may not be allergic to the others. So you might be allergic to paper wasps but not honey bees or bald faced hornets or bumblebees.
For medical reasons there are considered to be 5 types of venom.
The only way to determine allergy is to be tested by n allergist. it is very important to be tested if you are concerned. The reason is this is one allergy that is deadly. But the cure rate is very high with this allergy treatment. If you are really allergic you need to carry an epi-pen.
I am not allergic but I keep one with me just in case I have developed an allergy without knowing it.
There is no rhyme or reason why one person allergic and others not.
Most bee keepers build up immunity to the venom of honey bees.
They also use bee venom for a homeopathic treatment for rheumatoid arthritis and MS. There is no scientific data on the effectiveness though.

Come on Barbara! Be careful though because it might be hard to leave the South once you get here :)

Okay Gym Rat, Today I asked the receptionist at the gym to have someone call me for an appointment to have my fat measured. I guess they'll want to weigh me too... Oh my gosh, I NEVER thought it'd come to this, I've been inspired to the point of accountability.
Does this mean I'll have to buy a scale?

Pamela: My suggestion is that you do not buy a scale....everyday we gain/lose weight and it can be discouraging. I suggest that you weigh yourself once a week either at the gym or at a friends house and you DO NOT weigh yourself in between and use that weekly weight as a guide (do it on the same day and wear the same clothes haha)

Bradley: I almost forgot! Glad your feeling better. We all missed you! You should wear something "distinctive" on Helen's show so we can see who you are.

Wildfire update: Within 30 miles. The News people just said it's 35% contained, which I interrupt as 65% out of control. I've done all I can do to prepare for hurricanes, they never said a word about wildfires!

JAC~ I am doing great! No cravings yet, though last night I realized I am a PM eater. I force myself to eat in the morning and then feel hungry at night. Hmmmm... oh well. The only thing I have really looked at with tempt is peanut butter. I know that I can have some after the 9 days though, so it's all good.

Hey all...just cooling off from my little walk. It's great living in such a podunk town where everything is within walking distance. My son loves riding in the stroller so, gets me off my duffer.

Pamela-best advice for weight loss, is exactly what gymrat said. Only weigh yourself once a week. Otherwise you get frusterated as the scale varies from day to day. Always use the same scale.

Another piece of advice from myself-is that you should take measurements of your arm, hips, waist and thigh, and check them monthly. Often when we don't see the numbers on the scale we are toning, and losing inches.

I have never ever been stung by anything so now I am afraid of getting stung. So, do I just stay still? Does perfume really attract the bees? I would rather not run screaming around my own front yard if it isn't necessary. The neighbors tend to wonder.

Whabby - I also did not refer to Ross at Thurston, BUT, I do know that Charles, the golfer REALLY DISLIKES to be refered to as Thurston - witnessed it first hand at the Match Play - we all thought it was pretty funny!!

BUT, Ross was sure handsome in his southern gent suit!!

The bast cure for cravings....because admit it...we all have them...salty, chocolate, whatever your vice may be. I now bring carrots and celery with me to work to stop me from going back to the vending machine. It took a bit to get used to it, but it helps. That and mini bags of 94% FF microwave popcorn.

We enjoy snacking on Edemame.(soybeans)
I buy it frozen (shelled) and pop it into the microwave w/ 3Tbs water. Cook for 3 minutes (rest for 2min)then lightly salt and eat. My doggy Polly loves them too:)

there are scents that attract wasps and bees.
think about it; the scent on a flower is there to attract pollinators such as bees and wasps. They use flowers to make perfumes. they will come looking for a food source.
Fruit scented anything is going to attract wasps but not bees. Also sweet drinks will attract wasps.

I have stated many times, I do not use perfume and I use everything unscented.
Hair products are a big problem because the children's products are fruit scented which attracts wasps. Better to use adult or baby shampoo.

Goldie you have many great big burly, really tough men who are also quite afraid of any stinging insect, you have a lot of company in your phobia.
I know NYC cops that would go up against any danger or threat, except bees.

Oh, plus it's a high fiber, low carb snake.. snack!

Ok, trish, joey, glynis, all the "old balls" people from the torino blog-I've missed you!
trish-I loved your post about the drama, and agree fully. it was a part of why I left the blog almost a year ago. (mostly because I was reading the blog instead of doing homework, but the drama had an impact on my leaving) so I'm sad to see this much when I'm trying to inch my way back into ross blog life.
I won't have time to read everything, otherwise I'll be doing this instead of homework again and I'm THISCLOSE to being done with college finally. so just to say it up front: I'm skimming for my name, or the names of the people I remember. I'd love to read everything! but I just can't :( but trust me, I'd MUCH rather read ross blog stuff than Plato.
So I'm glad to see so many of you that I remember still around! and I will make an effort to stop in every couple days (the days I don't have class mostly) as a reward for getting stuff done. baby steps.
also-I want in no way this to be construed as my getting in on the drama. I'm not, and I won't.
but I just saw the video post-ross's blogs have come so far from torino days!!! I'm so proud! and it's most of why I'm posting now.
