Fish n' chips, redecorating and Barbra on a boat.
August 23, 2006
Happy Wednesday, blog buddies!
I’ve been so busy up here in Washington State visiting family and friends and enjoying the cool weather that I’ve been slipping and forgetting the REAL important things in life…
… like watching Big Brother!
So – SHH!!! Don’t tell me what’s going on! I’m Tivo’ing all the episodes at home and will watch them all when I get back to LA on Saturday. I feel like such a bad fan!
I’m up early today getting ready to go visit my other grandma on Vashon Island (located just off the coast of Seattle) with my friend Taya. It’s not too far (only an hour and a half or so), but it includes a ferry ride! Fun!
Maybe, if I’m in the mood, I’ll stand on the balcony of the ferry boat as the wind blows through my hair and reenact the “No Body’s Gonna Rain on My Parade†moment from Funny Girl when Barbra was on the tug boat. Maybe not. Either way, expect pictures tomorrow!
As promised yesterday, here are some more pictures from my trip home.
One of my best friends, Taya, was out of town for the first few days of my trip home, but is finally back. Let me explain Taya. Taya is an artist and is the funniest person I know. She puts me to shame. We met in high school and clicked instantly. She was my road trip companion on my big move down to LA to go to college way back in 1998. After I graduated, she moved down to LA so that we could live together. After a year or so, she moved back to Washington State and my heart was broken. Luckily, we talk on the phone literally every day and she’s an avid reader of this blog.
Blog friends, I’d like you to meet Taya.

Everyone say, “Hi, Taya!â€
Every time I come back into town, Taya and I always go to the same convenient store to buy snacks. Here I am with the store clerk who’s been there since before I left town for college. Whenever I go into his store when I'm home visiting, he yells, "Hey, Ross!!!"

Yesterday was a very special day. You may have noticed that I like to do VERY SPECIFIC THINGS every time I come home. Go here. Eat this. See this person. I like to do things that I love to do but can’t do in California. Make sense? So yesterday I made Taya and my mom accompany me to one of my favorite restaurants EVER…
Skippers!!!
Have you guys ever heard of Skippers? It’s a fast food fish restaurant famous for its fish n’ chips. It is seriously SO good.
My favorite thing about Skippers, though, is their tarter sauce. Not only does it taste amazing, but you get to pump your own into little paper cups. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate them (the corporation) letting us (the consumer) allocate our own amounts of dipping sauce. It’s so rare these days.
Here I am looking thrilled/crazy about the sauces.

And here are Taya and my mom looking pleased about the sauces, too.

Oh! And another thing about Skippers -- they usually give you a side of coleslaw with each meal, but if you ask politely, they’ll give you Jell-O instead. There’s always room for Jell-O!

Okay, on another note…
I mention yesterday that Taya and I were spending the day redecorating my mom’s back room. This is the room where mom watches TV and goes online at night. For the past few years, it’s turned into a storage room and has gotten, dare I say, a little cluttered. Sorry Mom!
Here’s a BEFORE picture:

Among other things, Taya and I took down the blinds, took out the old chair and HUGE old desk, moved around some stuff, and got mom a new office chair and a new desk (put together by a super-butch Taya). In pictures, it doesn’t look like a HUGE change, but when you’re in the room it’s pretty impressive.
Here’s the AFTER picture:

What do ya'll think?!? I think it looks MUCH better. And I'm not the only one! See – Mom loves it, too!

Okay gang – I’m totally running late!
Have a great Wednesday and I’ll see you tomorrow!
Until then,
Ross
