Ribbon Cutting
October 27, 2007Due to the heavy rainfall outside, the Convention organizers wisely decided to move the ribbon cutting indoors to the Student Center. The main auditorium was standing room only as the Mayor of Scranton, Pennsylvania State Senator, local Chamber of Commerce and University of Scranton officials welcomed several members of the cast onstage to officially open the Convention.
One by one Ed Helms, Leslie David Baker, Phyllis Smith, Bobby Ray Schafer, Angela Kinsey, Craig Robinson and Andy Buckley came onstage to a thunderous applause. Each of them had a special message to the fans, several of which included character bits. Angela warned everyone "not to be whorish" during the weekend and Craig Robinson led the crowd in a huge chant of "Scranton! What? The Electric City!". The crowd favorite, though, was Ed Helms' touching rendition of "Take a Chance on Me" that he sung to Angela.
The fans went wild and clapped along to every beat. Finally, Angela and the Mayor cut the ribbon to open the Convention and everyone filed out of the auditorium feeling an enormous amount of energy about to be unleashed on the city of Scranton.
