It’s 12:17am, I am hearing the peeps from August telling me wrap it up. I just like to say it’s been a privilege and quite fun, actually, to chat with y’all. Let’s do it again, sometime.
I want to thank everybody for your loyalty and support of SVU. We have some great stuff planned for the rest of the season. We just finished an episode, “Burned”, with one of my dearest friends, Blair Underwood. Blair and I did my very first series together twenty years ago and we finally got to work together again after all these years. He was amazing in the episode and it was directed by Eriq LaSalle, who I did ER with. It’s a pretty great thing when the best is yet to come. The writers are working so hard to keep it fresh. Coming up soon in the season, a life-altering discovery is will happen to Olivia.
One of the most rewarding aspects of playing Olivia Benson is that she is a touchstone for people who have experienced sexual abuse and her strength makes people realize that there is hope and there are people who want to help you and help you claim your voice back. I want to thank those of you who were courageous enough to share those experiences tonight. Don’t ever let anybody silence your voice.

According to my children, I am a Law & Order "junkie.” Anyway, I watch new episodes on NBC & TBS, re-runs on NBC, TNT, TBS, Bravo, pretty much any channel that has any Law & Order episode on it. I've also been known to flip back and forth between channels when more than one is airing at the same time. LOL
Anyway, I wanted to ask if its at all possible for you or someone from the Law & Order "family" to e-mail me about something more personal. My daughter likes SVU and would love have a part on an episode of the show. Please e-mail me how/where she would audition.
We come back to the NYC area often to visit family. Perhaps next time we are back east she can do this. Thank you all, you’re really great!

Mariska not only are you my Fav actor but example. I have a friend who was raped. It was such an expierence to be with them , and difficult as well. They get very Denial alot , and they have trouble knowing whats true and whats not. So when she tells me something I think its a lie , but she swears that its true when its not. I needed patience with here , but i don't blame her actions. Because she has been through so much. So watching you on SVU reminds me the kindness i have for people and i am only 15!! By The way..... Does peter also know 4 languages?? (Sorry I am very random , and i Laugh to much...WAY to much:)

Hey I just want to you to know that your Character as Detective Olivia Benson, Has really encouraged to me to fight. With that Character, I can relate in so many ways. And people who so stuff like this to other people shouldn't even have a second chance in life for ruining someone else's life. But when I watch this show, I see myself as your character trying to find justice for the victims. Not always will they get justice, but when they do it's another step to peace and justice for the victims who deserve it. \
And Law & Order:SVU has become my #1 all time Favorite show.

I just wanted to say that I LOVE you as an actress. You always seem to bring in an emotion through your eyes that some actresses lack, and that's what I look for when I'm watching a show or movie! Your character Olvia Benson is awesome. I agree with you that she is a touchstone for people who have been sexually abused. You're able to bring personal emotion into Olivia's character which is amazing! Abuse is something I speak out against, very strongly usually, and I love shows that capture just how horrible abuse is. If only everyone could realize what a horrible tragedy it is and join together to help end it!

oh yeah it is still hard to convince myself it is not my fault that my mom sold me and that i was raped more than twenty times from the age of five for money. Sometimes i wonder if she loved me or the money she was making. I guess i will never know since now she doesn't talk to me. It actually hurts more when it is your own family who betrays you like that. Do you have any advice on how i could deal with the pain i continue to feel?
Mariska I know what u mean by how she inspires viewers like me and how she gives us our voice back. The only bad thing is in the small town i live in the cops don't believe us when we say we were raped we have a special victims unit squad here and last year i was raped i talked to the lady and she told me i was lying i never felt so hurt in my life I wanna join the squad when i am done with school and college just so i know that the kids around here get justice. I just wish that i would have. Also since it wasn't the first time i was raped it seemed to hurt more when the cop called me a liar instead like when i live with my mom and they told her i was lying. Life is confusing some times but at least the show lets me know that there are people out there who care and realize that rape is true. I thank you guys for that. I love the show and what you guys are doing. Love Always Terra the girl who trys to get over being a victim of rape.

Hi Mariska, I gotta tell you, you really are a great actress!
I know you hear it a whole lot, and up until this weekend I really didn't know how much of fan I really was. I always loved your character. I think the comfort your character brings to the victims is a relief, and makes a big difference. I also think it brings relief to the viewers who have experienced similar or the exact same situations that have been on the show. For example, me, when I was 6 or 7 yrs old I was sexually abused by a family member. But the suppressed memory didn’t comeback until I got older like high school, and even then I didn’t quite hit me what really happened. I am now trying to deal with what happened to me over 14 or 15 yrs ago. Without the help of my family, considering the fact that they aren’t there for me when I need emotional support for anything. I’m from a European background that does swipe this stuff or a lot of emotional stuff under the rug, so it’s not an easy situation to have to go through, for me or anyone else that is in this sort of position. Because my family cause my low self-esteem, low self-confidence, I’m put down a lot, and feel left out a lot. I kind of depend on my counselor, and a few people I could call friends after years and years of having to deal with “friends” I couldn’t trust. So I obviously have trust issues, because of what I go through with my family, and friends I thought I had in the past.
I do wish I could move out, but because of my background it’s not an option, and I feel as if I won’t have the future I could have if stay at home. My passion is Social work, because I want to help others in need of someone they can depend on if they can’t find that support or comfort at home.
I do speak to a counselor through my school, but I only get to see her once a week for an hour, and I still avoid the subject most vulnerable tot me because I still have trouble talking about it, although she does know that I have been sexually abused.
The reason why I’m sending you a message is because last weekend I had a dream. It sounds kind of weird I’m sure. But I’ll tell you anyway, you were in my dream. Which is kind of odd, because I’ve never had a dream about an actor before. Anyway I was laying on a couch, and you were sitting next to me, and running your fingers through my hair. When I woke up, I was like “wow what was that about”. But I remember in the dream feeling comfortable with you. So I guess in the dream you resembled a motherly figure, because my mother doesn’t really fill that hole in my life. Anyway I just wanted to say, I had a dream about you comforting me the way you comfort the victims on the show, and that really shows affectionate, caring, and supportive your character has really become. And I wanted to say thank you so much for being such a great actress, and not only making good entertainment, but also being someone that me and many, many others can watch and feel safe, and better about what we have to go through. Even if we don’t have those in our lives who can comfort and help us through what we have to go through, we could at least watch people who do it for others. Which is a great feeling, because it creates hope.

Law and Order:SVU is my favorite show in the entire world, which is why I'm so disappointed that I missed the episode where Olivia came back to SVU! What the heck happened to Dani? Not that I'm upset about that, I didn't like her at all. I just feel sort of lost. I seen the episode tonight with the old man with lung cancer who died, and I was like "What? Where did Olivia come from?" haha Fill me in!

I had so many things planned out to say when I discovered this blog but in a fit of star-struck disbelief(?) I've completely forgotten what I was gonna say!
1. I just wanted to say I'm terribly sorry for your loss and that my heart goes out to you and your family.
2. Loving the hair!
3. Just the fact that you are taking time out of your busy (not to mention hectic!) schedule to answer questions and comments from fans makes me love you even more than ever! You are just so kind and optimistic and funny that its infectious! I absolutely adore you and Peter (tell him I thought he was fantastic in United 93! He made me cry!) and your son August! He is just so adorable and I can just tell you and Peter are amazing parents!
4. You are my hero. I never had a role model growing up (I'm 18 now), but when I first saw you on SVU three years ago I fell in love with the show and your portrayal of Olivia Benson just... inspires me. I was sexually assaulted when I was little and I never got justice. One of my best friends in middle school was raped by her stepdad and she never got justice. A friend of mine was raped (she actually met your fellow cast member Diane Neal in August I believe - I'm jealous!) and we all watch SVU because it gives us strength to heal. Your taking on the role of a strong but sympathetic detective who gives victims justice and hope has done more for me than you could know. I also want to say that you won my heart when you started the Joyful Heart Foundation. That you take this outside of your role as Olivia to help others just touches me so deeply! I begged my mom to get me the silver Fearlessness pendant for christmas! I just wanted to say thank you to you and Chris the entire SVU cast for doing such a wonderful job with this series and for giving survivors a voice when the public would sometimes rather not listen. Because of you and this show, I'm currently studying for a major in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology in hopes of becoming a detective and being able to make a difference for those like me whose voices and stories weren't heard by the police.
5. I'm sure you've heard this a million times but its my dream to meet you and the cast [and yes I've dreamed about being in an episode of SVU - what fan hasn't? :) ] and just being able to know that you may actually be able to read this just... gives this damaged heart of mine that much more strength.

Hey Mariska! First of I want to say you are and amazing actress! I have been watching u since I was 9 years old! You are definitely my role model! Anyways my name is Kourtney and i'm 17 and my boyfriend Kyle who is 19 is in the Army National gaurds and he got home from fighting in Iraq just in time to see his baby boy born! We named him Kenneth James, Kenneth is after my daddy and James is after Kyles dad, anyways i'm very lucky that my boyfriend has decided to stay with me! in most cases it doesn't work out like that! But yea...umn as far as the sleep goes not much for me or kyle....lol we take turns waking up with Kenneth.....I do get alot of help during the day though.....see I have a very large family im the oldest of 10 children! But the help may be limited because my 15 year old sis is in the hospital going through labor she is going to have a baby girl and she wants to name her Olivia Mariska....well anyways im still in school if u were wondering that...im a Junior and it is very hard getting through school with a child but im a fighter I can make it....if you want I gave you a url....that has pics of me and kyle and kenneth on it.....well I suppose Id better get down to the hospital....I promised my lil sis I would be the one to hold her hand through her giving birth, she is very scared, like I told her it is a beautiful thing and god is on her side every step of the way!

I wanted to say "hello" from a fellow actress and let you know how much SVU has meant to me.
I worked BG on SVU several times while I lived in NYC. (I was priviledged to sit next to you while they set the lights for a scene verrrry late one night during the Henry Winkler ep. -- and no, I don't expect you to remember that! lol)
At the time, I couldn't watch the show since I'd had to work with the real NYPD SVU squad on my own case in 1995. I was afraid it would bring the flashbacks, pain, etc. back. It wasn't until after I left NYC in 2003 that I started watching. Sometimes I feel like I hear just the right words come out of you or Chris' mouths... "it wasn't your fault," "you can get better," etc. The show has further empowered me to heal.
Life has moved on. The times I flash are very rare. I'm successfully pursuing a stage career (my first love) and want to thank you and the rest of the SVU cast and crew for that. I'd love to do that in person one day, but for now, this will have to do.

Mariska, I want you to know that your and Chris' roles go beyond entertainment for me. Benson and Stabler are perfect foils for each other, and I think are probably the best detective team in the genre. What's more, I identify with the conflicting aspects of their personalities, which deepens my reactions to the show. I could go on and on about the perception and depth of the writing and the dead-on character portrayals and the way all the complex elements of the show combine to elevate it from entertainment to art, but what really drew me to SVU is that it gives me, a survivor, something that helps me through some dark times. It does me good to see that some children do get rescued, and that even the ones who don't are mourned. It lets me rage and cry and feel vindictive and want Stabler to take it that last bit too far, and yet when he doesn't I feel I have triumphed over that part of me as well. (I must say, though, I loved the episode when he went to Prague.) And when a predator becomes prey and is put away, shocked out of his arrogance at last, I get to experience vicariously a sense of closure that I can never have for myself. Shows like SVU -- I won't name others here ;o) -- help me mourn for my past and then put it away again after the hour's over instead of getting stuck in those feelings, and then move on with my life again.
As I am bipolar, I also am fiercely glad that an episode addressed the dangerous repercussions of going off of mood stabilizers and the pitfalls of doing such things based on the advice of those who don't believe in using medicine at all. As a (proudly) self-proclaimed geek and a mother, I deeply appreciate the episodes which shine light into the recesses of cyberspace and the dangers that lurk there. SVU's writers are incredible. I don't let my 13-year-old girl watch much in the way of crime dramas, especially since she suffered in her birth and foster homes, but I had her watch "Chat Room" with me. I don't think I could have explained it better than Eliot did when he talked about locking the doors and windows to keep the bad guys out, and that now they're coming in through the computer: "It's not about trust; it's about fear." Eliot's fierce protectiveness towards his family and rage towards predators is something with which I identify so very strongly, and that particular episode actually changed my girl's reactions to my strict rules about the computer.

two years ago i watched the show for the first time and i fell in love. i have seen every episode except 4 i think and im saving them for off season when i want to watch a new one.
well i really want to become an actress. not to be famous but i feel like it is a way that i can speak to the world and have people like me look up to me and so i can help people.

in april i was like 130(im 5'5) then by july i was under 100 if my parents knew they would freak. then my mom found an eatin glog and told me if i was under 110 ever she would make me quit golf(im on varsity gold team:])
so i had to gain that for the doctors. now i am 105 but i still feel big especially after thanksgiving. i dont know why i know i am thin if i wear a zero but still. and i dont really sleep anymore.
