Dear Irish guy,It's a scientific fact that most whackings take place between the hours of 11:30 PM and 12:30PM across all time zones. It has come to my attention that many people in this line of work (although I must emphasize that I have absolutely NO firsthand knowledge of this) are very displeased that the Italian guy that used to do your show has been replaced by a Mick...

Heading into final launch sequence here in Bleyland... Wednesday morning I step onto a plane headed one way to Los Angeles California! ONE WAY. PERMANENT TRIP. NEVER COMING BACK. Well, okay - the plane is probably coming back to NYC at some point; I mean, they're not going to fly a plane to California and then destroy it or something just because I'm riding on it. But you get what I'm saying.

Even though the Late Night offices are technically still open until March 20th, the sweet sweet (former) Late Night with Conan O'Brien Research Gang's last day in 30 Rock was this past Thursday... And we commemorated the event by shooting a little Underground video! Also, like I've mentioned earlier, even though Hardy will be a CA resident, she will not be working for The Tonight Show... So Bruno and I decided to send her off right! I hope you like it!!

Originally, I thought that I'd be starting work on April 20th; I wanted some time to live in LA before I had to start working, so I got a March 15th lease... But it turns out that I've actually got my first Tonight Show meeting on Monday!!! Craziness!! This past week, I've been brainstorming a whole big list of ideas for the new Tonight Show website that we'll be starting to put together in the coming weeks and months. And on that topic...

My question for you all is this: What would you like to see on the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien website? Any suggestions? Like I've said before, we do our show for you guys... And since I value your opinions so highly (well, some of your opinions), I'd like to get your input on what kind of of site you guys wanna see!!! Not sure what the schedule will be for getting the site up, but the wheels have definitely started turning - and they are heavy wheels. So I could use your help! I hope you don't mind! ;)

And that's about it for this week... This is my last blog post from NYC, so the next time you guys read this, it'll be from LA!!! AN LA BLOGEROOO!!! WEST COAST BLOGGIN'!!! THE SUNSHINE STATE OF INTERNET WRITING!! And there will be exactly zero difference, actually.

SEE YOU NEXT MONDAY, Y'ALL!!!!!

« Back to Blog

is the podcast coming back in some manner? Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien Some Kind of Department Podcast, please.

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Ha ha ha. Noted, Elle. Thanks!

Well...I'd set it up basically the way it is now. The only suggestion I really have is perhaps melding the underground, and official NBC pages into one super-page. But they already link to each other, so, its not really needed.
It'd be nice to, in addition to clips of the show, have bits of music by the Max Weinberg 7. I know they've got some of their own composed tunes. Pop those on the web along with the crazy Conan clips. That would be amazingly awesome.
And, besides that, I dunno...the current layout is kinda wooden, I guess. Maybe have less boxes, more, I dunno, something more abstract, I guess.
But, yeah, totally try and get those MW7 clips up!

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Yes, I think it will all be one awecellent Voltronesque megasite. Not sure about the music - music licensing is a complicated issue, with publishing rights and all that other goodness. But I'll certainly look into it!

Bley,

I'd love to see more integration with technology on the website. I know Jimmy has been doing a lot, and I realize Conan and Jimmy are very different people, but I have loved seeing the outtakes, behind-the-scenes shoots, etc and want to see more of them!

In addition, I'd love to see more about the people who make The Tonight Show with Conando happen. You guys have such a great staff, and so few of them get on camera. Let's hear about Brian McCann, Susie in the booth, etc. Oh yeah, and maybe a random remote from NYC with Abe when you get a chance?

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Agreed!! I'm really trying to make more of that happen - maybe not as much as Jimmy does, but hopefully more than we've done in the past.

Aaron Scott Bleyaert!!
OHMYGAWSH. I love the post title lol. And my first thought is; CONAN SHOULD GET A TWITTER. Or a facebook. Something. Seriously, I would die of happiness if he got a twitter. And then I would come alive again to read it.
Take care everyone and hope you have a safe trip to LA!
PS- Do you always wear that blue button up shirt?? Lol, in the last 3 videos, that's all you've worn!! xD

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: HA HA HA HA. We'll see, duder!

And I had to pack up a bunch of my stuff, so I've been wearing the same clothes for awhile! (To be honest, though, I own two of those shirts so it's not as gross as it sounds).

Good Luck with the trip Bley!!

Well, for what I'd like the TS website to include, here's a couple of points:
* Have the blog/underground stuff/podcasts/backstage goodness all on the one site.
* I'd love to see some footage and stuff about setting up the show, like they did with Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
Will tweet you some more if I think of anything, but those are the first two things that come to mind...
Bye for now!!

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Cool! Thanks for the suggestions, Ryan!

Some behind the scenes photos and videos would be awesome (i love it when you put pictures in the blogs and funny behind the scenes videos up on underground site)

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Cool! Maybe I'll try to start doing "a picture a day" or something. Those are always fun!

truly, its kind of a bummer with no Conan untill June. SO i think untill the show begins, there should be a weekly sit down podcast with conan. he gives updates, stories, absolutly anything he wants too. it would be awesome!

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Ha ha - well, he's a little busy flying around the country doing affiliate visits and promotional stuff... But I would love it if that could happen!

Hi!!!

Bley Dude!!! I miss u already:( But I am happy that u will be moving on to bigger and better things:)

As for the site, I think u guys should pretty much stick to the same formula, but jazz it up a little more. U shouldn't mess with a good thing.

If I can come up with anything else, I will let u know.
For now I am sending u big good luck kisses!!! MUAH!!!!!!!!!!!MUAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!MUAH!!!!!!!!!!

Kat

P.S. HAPPY ST.PATTY'S DAY!!!!

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Happy St Patty's day right back atcha!! Did you have a good one?!

I'm hoping that our site will still continue bringing you the stuff you love, as well as a few new cool things!

Thanks for keeping us updated Bley

I think the main reason I go to this site is it to see Behind the Scenes and learn more about the production. My favorites are the podcast with people on the crew and all the rehearsal videos. I'm looking to get somewhere in the industry someday, so love seeing the 'real' people of production talking about their job and how they contribute to the show. Maybe expand on the podcast show with a video cast so you can see their offices and get more of an idea of what they do for the show.

One thing that I don't feel like we see enough of is the writers. I'd even like Conan to do more segments with them as themselves as he did with you, producers, and other crew members during the writers strike. Maybe incorporate them more on this site seeing jokes that didn't work, behind the scenes of meetings, or a 'day in the life of...'. Some of these guys are pretty darn funny and it'd be nice to see more of them.

Either way your doing great. Thanks for all the work. Good luck in LA...hope it doesn't turn you into a douche

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Hey Travis!! That makes me really happy to hear that - I'm totally fascinated with TV production as well, so it gets me pumped to be able to share that kind of stuff with you guys! I'm previledged to work with a great group of people that don't always get the kudos they deserve, so it's always great when I can shine the limelight in their direction a little bit!

Have a safe trip Bley.
Please tell everyone Monday how much they are missed.
Send lot's of Twitpics of your new place!

I hope you guys start webisodes prior to the June launch much like they did w/ Jimmy. And I would like to see how everyone is settling in to their new digs as well as the progress of the studio.
It was really cool to see what 6a looks like now. Thanks for that vid!

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Thanks, Shelly. It's a big transition, but we're all really excited. I will definitely be hitting you guys with some sweet sweet preshow Vlog action! Look out!

I would love a lot of behind-the-scenes and following the "creation" of the show, a bit like the Fallon-crew did. You know, see the process of creating a brand new show and sneek peeking at the studio maybe? ;)
I can see that Conan won't have a web-show like Jimmy, but it would be nice if they let you focus on videos for the... Tonight Underground? Tonight Show Underground? New Show Underground? Bley Tonight Underground? Have you decided on a name yet?
Anyways, good luck with all!
/Anton (from Sweden!!)

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Yeah! I really enjoyed what the Fallon folks did as well! We haven't decided on a name yet... But I'm thinking it might have something with the word "Magma" in it, because Magma is awesome!!!! For instance, did you know that Magma is LIQUID ROCK!? That's true! ROCK THAT IS SO HOT IT IS A LIQUID. Science is incredible! What's next? Animals that can fly?!???

Yay! you are now closer to us west coast fans. hopefully i will run into you one day and awkwardly let you know what a big fan of the blog i am. anyway, perhaps the blog should be a hybrid of what you currently have. for example, the underground videos, the blog itself and the podcast. especially the podcast, i loved when you started doing the behind the scenes interviews. i also enjoyed jimmy fallon's transitional video blogs of what's going on before the first show airs. we'd definitely love that!

oh and sorry to ask before i even give you a minute to unpack... but just wanted to request, if you are able to, let us know if you will be having interns and how we can apply. i'd love to help out in any way I can. I will eagerly run down the hill to get everyone lunches! haha. hope your first tonight show meeting goes well! you've done such an awesome job with the blog, i know it will only get better. i love the twitter feed as well. get your douchy sunglasses ready, i believe this Wednesday its gonna be hotter than usual. perhaps because the bley has landed? ooh snap!

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Ha ha ha! Well, hopefully if we run into each other, it will be in person and not you hitting me with your car.

Thanks for the suggestions, Marylin! I'll definitely find out the skinny on the intern situation (hopefully this week) and I'll let you know!

Sweet sweet Conan rehearsal footage!!! And don't leave out McCann, and Stack!

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: HA HA HA. Thanks, Jables! We won't!

what I would really like to see bley is rehearsals, rehearsals abd, oh yeah! REHEARSALS! these tidbits that you show on late night underground are fantastic and a really interesting compliment to the show that ahs aired that night. If you could provide these videos from every show you do then post it to go along with a new episode every night then that would be awesomme!!!

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Yeah, I really enjoy the rehearsal videos too! The only thing is that, to be quite honest, I like each one to be kind of a skit unto itself - like, for me, it has to have some sort of joke or story to be worth putting up, you know? I'm just not sure it'd be interesting to see every single rehearsal!

I'd really like to see something similar to what Jimmy Fallon's crew is doing with their website. Especially in how they posted a video every day prior to the start of the show.

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Sweet! One question: How many of those videos did you watch? Did you find yourself coming back every day, or waiting and then watching a bunch in one day?

Hey, this is a bit off-topic but I figured it'd be the best place to post it. For some reason Conan was in my hometown of St. Louis the other day and the local NBC affiliate interviewed him: http://www.ksdk.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=170006

Maybe this is Late Night Underground worthy? I feel it's at least comments section worthy.

As far as what I'd like to see on the Tonight Show website, I think you guys do pretty great now so just keep it up.

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Thanks for the heads up, Bob! He's flying all over, these days... I'm glad he made it out to you guys!!

Mobile Photo of the day! You can take a picture each day and leave a space for people to comment on the photo. By the end of the year you will have a pretty good time capsule/year book. I don't know, i think that would be fun.

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Good idea! And perhaps a photoshop contest as well?

You already do such a great job with the site and the Insider, it seems like one of those if it ain't broke, don't fix it scenarios.

I really love reading the blog, it's such a great way to be connected to my favorite show, see all of the shenanigans of you nutty people, and even learn about the inner workings of tv itself. I also love seeing the videos of rehearsal on the Underground. Basically, behind the scenes action = tops. I think the regularity that you post stuff is what makes the blog and Underground so successful.

I mean, how lucky are we that you want to stay connected to your fans? I can't think of any other show that is so generous to its fans, let alone such a major one as the TONIGHT SHOW. Anything you give us, we're going to love. Unless it sucks. Kidding!

Best wishes on your move to LA! I'm so excited to see how everything is going to unfold in the coming weeks. June 1 cannot come soon enough.

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Thanks, Natalie! It's more like one of those "It ain't broke, but we want it to be more awesome" scenarios. ;)

Unless it sucks?! UNLESS IT SUCKS?!??? Oh, Natalie. Could someone please pull this KNIFE OUT OF MY BACK?!?

And between us, I think we'll hopefully have some stuff for your guys before June 1st! Fingers crossed, etc etc.

I adore the site and all of its features, the only thing I would add would be maybe easier access to everything, like instead of having to click on "exclusives" and then "blog", the blog would always have a link right on the front page (sometimes it does but not all of the time)

btw, I also really really love the fact that the title of this is a showtune reference! = )

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Yes! That's one thing I want to try and get - a "blog excerpt" on the front page, so people can find it easier. And that title was by Ohio's own Jennifer Franks!! I asked people on my Twitter to come up with titles, and I liked hers the best!

AARON! excellent to hear from you. i've missed you. i miss conan, i miss every one so BADLY. i need some picker-upper from ya guys! *oh june, my june, when shalt thou come, june?!*

i hope you have safe enjoyable runaway-train-never-coming-back-trip to LA. take care and i'll talk to you soon. (i'm just feelin kinda, blech, right now.. about a coupla other things).

w/ luv and hugs,
joyce

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: I've missed you too, Joyce! Hopefully we'll have some stuff for your guys before June - we're meeting all this week to get the ball rolling! I hope everything's okay with you...

My suggestions: Do a daily video leading up to the new Tonight Show debut. Interviews with the writing crew, you research guys, Andy, Max & the band, and...of course...the big red haired guy himself. :D

Oh, and We're gunna need a video of Aaron Bley dancing, shirtless, while being sprayed with a water hose. In slow motion. Like the bearded chicks in the Windowlicker video. Ohh yeah! That's gunna be hot!

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Do you think a video every day is too much? I kind of feel like when there are daily videos eventually you are going to get ones that suck. Also, a video every day feels expendable; like, why would I watch a video today when there'll be a new one tomorrow?

The hose video... Is no problem at all, baby. No problem AT ALL.

I would love to see more rehearsal footage and backstage antics put on the website.

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Sweet! Thanks, R Train! I'm planning on still doing the rehearsal vids, and hopefully they'll like the backstage ideas I've been coming up with...

I'd like to see everything that you currently have up and more. That's not much help, sorry.

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: No, it's nice to know that you guys like what I've been doing so far! I'll take that into account...

Hey Conan
Can u make ur website like Jimmys? Do a vlog showing us some skits ur planning on for the show. Oh, and when will the set be done?

Hey Conan
Can u make ur website like Jimmys? Do a vlog showing us some skits ur planning on for the show. Oh, and when will the set be done?

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Not sure when the set will be done... They're still building it! Hopefully soon. Thanks for the suggestions!

Rove McManus here in Australia hosts 'Rove' a similar show to Tonight Show and has been on Leno three times.

He does Vlogs whenever he has some times. Once or twice a month riffing on things or answering viewer emails. That would be awesome.

Loads of behind the scenes video are always awesome and just extending the show online as much as possible is always a good idea.

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Sweet! Yeah, I got one of those "flip" cameras, so I'm planning on doing a bit of Vlogging. I've got a bunch of good behind the scenes ideas, so we'll see if we can pull them off...

Hey Conan,

I wish you well in LA.
I used to live there from 1961 to 2000.
I live in AZ now.
If you need advice on how to survive an Earthquake, just
let me know.LOL

See Ya,
Patrick

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Whoa! Why'd you leave? You wanted more sun?

Aloha, ye Irish clown in a suit and welcome to smuggy Los Angeles! I have been a regular viewer(when I could stay up late enough to laugh at/with you) of your hilarity since the early 90's, when I was still a teenager. Wow, you must be ancient! Thanks for all the years of laughter and great music. I can't wait to laugh at a more respectable 11:35PM and to see a new, smarter, younger Tonight Show. Leno...snoozeroni man!

P.S. My band WILL play on your show someday!!!

*********************************************************
Aaron Responds: Hey Erick! Thanks for the sweet sweet LA welcome! Smuggy... Is that like smoggy and muggy? Because I think I really like that word.

Please Please did i mention Please! :) when will the tickets be available for the first taping of Conan in LA????? :) i NEEEEEEED to be sure to get some! i loooooooove conan!!! :) well me and a million others but i gotta be there! i just gotta! :D Welcome to Cali... :)

*********************************************************
Aaron Responds: Not sure yet, Xtina! I will definitely let you know, however! I want to do some kind of giveaway for some tix to the first show, but we'll see if that happens or not!!

um isn't fl the sunshine state... lol

*********************************************************
Aaron Responds: Yes. Yes it is. And Aaron Bleyaert is the "Stupid State", apparently. ;)

Not to relate you to other late night television shows but..

I think "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and "The Colbert Report" got it right by putting every single clip that has ever been in their show on their respective websites. I remember discovering that Late Night With Conan O'brien had a website with footage from the show, but was disappointed with the lack of content the site had. You had over 16 years of laughs (well...13 years of laughs) and I am positive there were more hilarious moments than the website had to offer.

*********************************************************
Aaron Responds: No, please - compare away! These are the kinds of things that I want to hear! Thanks for the input, Jesse! ;)

Great post, but its a bit long and most people like short and sweet posts!

*********************************************************
Aaron Responds: Sorry, Simonn! I just thought that, since I'm only posting once a week right now, I'd try and give folks a little bang for their buck, you know?

Been a while since I last said howdy here. Hope all is well. An official welcome to California! (Plenty of fun stuff to do here whether it be party hardy in the city or camping out in the mountains.) So now that you've been here for a while, what do you think of this side of the train tracks? Not too shabby,eh?...I hope :S Like the Eagles once cried, once you check in, you can never leeeeeave!

Keep it gangsta'
-stef

*********************************************************
Aaron Responds: That makes two of us, Stef! I have to say, I am really liking Cali so far!! I've actually got a cold right now (that I'm chalking up to stress), but otherwise, it's pretty dopefresh!

Will there every be a complete Late Night with Conan archive? There are so many episodes, skits, and guests that are impossible to find anywhere on the internet or elsewhere.

*********************************************************
Aaron Responds: Not sure. Like I've mentioned before, there are licensing issues, both music and otherwise, that keep us from being able to put a lot of stuff up on the web forever. We're looking into it, but it's possible that it won't happen. :( Keep your fingers crossed though, Noah!!

First of all: THINGS THAT PEOPLE UNDER 16/18 CAN DO! I mean srsly, the younger fans feel left out.
Anyways, how's your Norooz going? It's got me obsessed with Persian pop... so much better than American pop. which has always sucked. my mom's in cali for a bit, so if you see her and somehow recognize her, think 'hi', cuz if you say hi, she'll start screaming for help.
ostrich

*********************************************************
Aaron Responds: Like what?! Besides changing the age limit for the show, which is beyond my (admittedly large) powers, what would you like to see on the new site?

First, excuse my not-so-good English and the links.

Im a scriptwriter from Bulgaria (real country, no bullsht). Im making comedy.

So I decide to tell you about a late night show in Bulgaria, that obviously copy and paste many parts of Late night with Conan. Its called The late night show of Azis
The host is a fat homosexual gypsy-guy, named Azis. Hes also a scandal singer, because of his freaky look and voice and other weird stuff that I will not mansion.

Take a look here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whi99J4B_2Q

Well, thats the guy/girl with the show.
The beginnig of the show is almost the same as yours, the scene too.
Theres a lot of exact copies of your desk-bits. Unfortunately I cant find any to show you. However, theres A LOT of commons. And the End of the show song is JUST the same as Conans.
I found it funny.

 You can except this as my revenge for all the laughs you guys gave me with the show youre doing.
Hope you like it its pure grotesque.

Thats an episode of the show. You can spot the similarities in the beginnig, the scene etc. But the host ha-ha!
http://tv2.bg/shows/17/videos/archive/50?page=5#video-448

Heres their version of In the year 2000:
http://www.vbox7.com/play:134da6fc

Another freaky one:
http://www.vbox7.com/play:8044abf6

Well, thats it. Use it for good! 

P.S. Good luck with the show in LA!

*********************************************************
Aaron Responds: Hey Persifedron! Thanks for the heads up - I had already seen this, actually, but it's something else! Pretty crazy!

"Good idea! And perhaps a photoshop contest as well?" - Hmmm, i would love to see the return of the Hovering Weatherman

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Oh yeah?! Well, we'll see sir... WE WILL SEEEEEEEEEEE.
