Andy, You're A Star!
Posted March 02, 11:07 AM
Why hello there, you fine, good looking people. How are ya? It seems like one whole entire week since we saw each other last! It's so hard to believe that it was only - wait, it WAS a week. I forgot. Sorry. Um... How was your week?
First off, I'd like to congratulate everyone at Late Night with Jimmy Fallon... And wish them the very best of luck on their debut this evening!! If you're like me, you'll be tuning in at 12:35 to check out the very exciting new face of Late Night! Good luck, guys. Do us proud.
This past week for me has been pretty awesome - and one MAJOR reason for that is because of a little piece of news that I'm sure you all heard about: SWEET SWEET ANDY RICHTER WILL BE OUR ANNOUNCER ON THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH CONAN O'BRIEN!!! How great is that?! I'll tell you: MUCHO great! I never actually got to work with Andy - I started about a year after he left - but I met him shortly after I started, and he's always known my name and treated me as a good friend... And what more can you ask of someone? I mean, besides loaning me an extra 20 to support my crippling scratch off lottery habit? Exactly.
At any rate, as everyone who watched almost any clip package of the last two weeks of Late Night knows, Andy Richter has been an important (and hilarious) part of the Late Night with Conan O'Brien family for a very long time, and I think I speak for all of us when I say that we couldn't be happier that he will be joining us out in Los Angeles!! Andy's the best! Plus, there's a famous story of Andy hitting two home runs against CBS News during a certain softball game at Yankee Stadium years ago... But that's a story I'll save for another time. PS - Let it burn, suckas.
As for me, things are starting to shift into high gear. Case in point: I am currently writing this from a hotel room in the shadow of Universal Studios out here in LA...
And I have to say, this whole "moving" thing is starting to feel pretty real. I've been out here since Wednesday night, catching up with some West Coast friends and hunting for a the perfect apartment... Or as I like to think of it, "Big Bley's West Coast base of operations for World Domination"!!!! (Or as the girl I met in a bar calls it, "Your West Coast lair of pathetic Xbox playing and crying yourself to sleep every night. Also, this place smells like feet. Call me a cab."). Seriously though, I found a really great place, and I'm hoping to sign the lease tomorrow! Also seriously, it's more like an armpit smell. OH NEW YORK, I WILL ALWAYS KEEP A PIECE OF YOU IN MY HEART. And my nose, apparently.
Public humiliations aside, I'm learning a lot about Los Angeles - even when just looking for an apartment! For instance: A lot (most) of the places out here don't come with refrigerators. I know! It's totally weird and crazy - who moves out and takes their fridge with them? I can't tell you how many apartments I've seen where I walk into the kitchen and see a giant hole where the icebox should sit. It's like someone's pulled a giant tooth out of the apartment. It's crazy! I'm almost expecting to walk into one of these bathrooms and see a missing toilet... But hey, maybe that's a trend I'll start when I move out of my apartment in New York!
MAN my roommates would be upset.
In other news, last night I hung out with my former co-worker (and former Late Night Podcast co-host) Grace Parra! She's doing great, and says hello to all you fine Party People... She also apologies for taking me to what was possibly the douchiest bar in LA (okay, she didn't really say that second thing but she should have because holy crap that place was Zzzztown). I still had a great time, though. Thanks, Grace!
Finally, I wish I had pictures of the new studio for you guys this week, but no dice. Actually, I tried to get onto the lot yesterday, and I learned one crucial fact about our new home: THE LOT IS CLOSED ON SUNDAYS!! Crazy! Not being able to get into work on the weekends is going to take some getting used to... After all, 30 Rock is open 25/8 366 because of the NBC News department! So if there's no news presence on the lot in LA, I guess there's no reason for the studio to be open on the weekends! Maybe I'll have to dig a tunnel or something. Y'know; just in case I forget my iPod. Daddy NEEDS his jambox at all times, sugarsnap. You understand.
Soooooo... That'll about do it for this week! I'm headed back into the office tomorrow for the next couple days to finish packing up and moving out, so you might want to keep an eye on my Twitter - I'm feeling an Underground movie coming on later this week! Stay tuned, guys!!
