Late Night Characters or bits
Dear Irish guy,It's a scientific fact that most whackings take place between the hours of 11:30 PM and 12:30PM across all time zones. It has come to my attention that many people in this line of work (although I must emphasize that I have absolutely NO firsthand knowledge of this) are very displeased that the Italian guy that used to do your show has been replaced by a Mick...

2,724 Down... And 1 To Go.

Posted February 19, 09:59 PM

Sorry for the late blog, everyone. It's obviously a very busy time here at the show right now! Today packing up the office went into high gear, as we took time out of our busy schedules to all run down to the studio to take an all-show photo!!! Andy showed up - to much applause and fake booing - and jumped in as well!! It seems only fitting for him to be in our last photo. After all the horsing around and shooting of pictures, we all went out in the hall and gorged ourselves on delicious Late Night mousse cake that Jeff Zucker sent our show!! Hardy and I were bouncing off the walls for about an hour!!! I might have, um, dine some damage to the office... But who cares!! The show's done tomorrow, suckas!!

A couple things before I forget: There is a brand new Late Night Podcast today... And, I'm sad to say, it is our very last Podcast. Please join Myself, Sharon Hardy, Sarah Bruno... And our very special guest, Conan O'Brien... As we bid a fond farewell to the internet radio show we've all loved so much these past months. Thank you all for listening!

Also tonight, I've posted a brand new Underground web video for you all to enjoy - it's the fate of LaBamba's Bandstand!! remember last night, when Conan ripped out the bandstand and gave it to one very lucky audience member?! Well, after the show we sent a camera crew after the folks who took it away, and watched as they tried to figure out a way to get it home!! Ha ha ha.... Oh, those crazy kids. Enjoy!!!

This is it, everyone. Tomorrow night, after 2,724 shows, 15 odd years, and hundreds upon hundreds of jokes about bears masturbating, Late Night with Conan O'Brien will air one final time. Looking back, it has been quite a journey - from a former SNL writer who could barely convince the network to let him stay on the air... To becoming the next host of the late night comedy institution, The Tonight Show, Conan has taken us all (You guys, AND us) on quite an adventure. As someone who has worked here for the past 8 years, it's hard to wrap my mind around the fact that this is all going away in less than 24 hours! Madness. Utter madness.

Please join us tomorrow night... For the last Late Night with Conan O'Brien of all time!!

Now go enjoy our second to last show!! See you tomorrow!!!

Aaron,

Good golly Miss Molly! Where do I even begin?! Ok, for the very first time I am going to be serious here.
For these past couple of years, having the opportunity to be "pen pals" with you has been an absolute treat. Reading your daily blogs ,about what goes on behind the famous blue curtain, always made my week. Your site was the first thing I'd check after I had slaved away at school (or as I like to call it, the "education chamber"). Right now, I vow to continue reading your blogs now that you have announced that you are going to LA.
Even though we never have formally met, you have been so incredibly kind on making me feel welcomed here. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would have email conversations with those who help create one of my favorite shows. In a nutshell, what I am trying to say is, thank you. Thank you for the laughs. Thank you for making feel like part of the Late Night crew. Thank you for the pod cast shout outs, Turkey hand prizes and personal comments. Thank you for being part of the greatest comedy show on television. Thank you.
It has been a pleasure getting to know you and the Research Team. Nothing will please me more if we can continue keeping in touch. Best of luck to you all. Welcome to California! Looking forward to have you all here on the west coast. Hopefully that will give us the chance to one day meet one another. (still working on getting that internship.) In the mean time, GOODBYE CONAN, catch you on the flippity-flop! ;)

Take care,
Stef

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Awww! Thanks, Stef. It means a lot to me to hear you say that. Being a fan of the show myself, I'm happy that I get to share some of the fun things that happen here at the show with you guys!! I am extremely extremely lucky to have this job, and the reason that I get to do a job that I love every day is because of you!!! So it's been my pleasure letting you guys in on all the backstage antics - and I hope that you'll continue watching and reading and commenting here as I blog about the transition to the Tonight Show!! It should be quite an interesting ride!

Aw, Aaron, this almost made me cry! I can't believe the show is finally coming to an end! But I'm excited for The Tonight Show and excited for you and your move to LA! I missed the first few minutes of the show last night and turn it on in the middle of the Triumph segment. Is he going to LA with y'all? If he is, y'all should do a remote from Comic-Con this summer (I mean, really? Comic-Con is perfect for Triumph!) and then I'd be able to meet Chillemi and you should go too and I could say hi to you, too! :)
Are you going to post the show photo tomorrow?
Anyway, I'm off to mope about the end of the show. It honestly just hasn't sunk in yet!

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Oh man! I would love to go to Comic-Con, Haylee!! Maybe I'll try and pull something together... We'll see how busy this summer gets!!

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Skynet? Is that you?

I'll be missing that bear. :(

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: ... And he'll be missing you, Brenda! Don't count him out; you never know what the future holds! ;)

Do you think you'll keep updating the Late Night podcast or any of the sites once the show is over? Just to let us know whats going on with the progress of the Tonight Show maybe.
These next few months are going to be rough.

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Yes! We will be keeping everything up for awhile - and a lot of this stuff I'm trying to get archived somewhere. There's no reason why it can't live forever!

so bittersweet. wishing you all the best on your move to LA. Pierre has been blogging on his apartment search, a few of us have been helping him out by recommending which cities to avoid.

this has been a great week of shows/blogs. although of course things will change, its nice to see key elements of the show remain with the transition. can't tell you enough how much i've loved the blog and latenightunderground. great job, keep it up and i'm excited to see what you'll have in store for the tonightshow blog.

random question.. will Jordan be coming out to LA as well? and joel godard? I ask about joel cuz the segment this week looked like a goodbye piece.. but i wasn't sure.

anyway thanks for the laughs, inside info, and generally well written wit. cya around LA!

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Interesting... I'll have to check out Pierre's blog! I'm not sure about Jordan or Joel. I haven't heard anything either way about them going or not - it's been hard just getting through the end of the show as it is!!

Oh man, what a night! I've been catching up on the shows from the past two weeks and I'm only on Friday's show with Alec Baldwin! Just took a break to listen to the final podcast and couldn't stop smiling. Thank you so much for getting Conan to do it! I'll save it forever! =D
Well, I don't exactly know how the comments are going to work for tomorrow's blog [will you even be able to answer them?], so just in case, I want to thank you right now for doing all the things you did for us. You made our experience with this show so special and fun and I'm so incredibly glad that you're continuing to do it in LA. Hope your last day goes well!

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: You're welcome, Ashley!! It was super nice of him to do it!! I was psyched, and thought that he did a great job... Of course! ;)

I will continue to answer questions when I update the blog every Monday now on!! I'm also on Twitter and Facebook, if you have questions or concerns...

This show has been such a big part of my life for so many years now, as just a fan it is hard to grasp that it is coming to an end. I can only imagine how you all are feeling, not to mention Conan. I LOVED the podcast, I blew off studying for my test right before class to listen to it. I just need to keep remembering that Conan isn't going anywhere and that he will be back in just a few months doing bigger and better things. But as long as I live I will always think of Conan as the GREAT host of Late Night (literally, Conan's Superbowl commercial just came on my TV) Anyways, only one more show to go!!

p.s. I was waiting for Arnett to show up sometime this week. Now my only wish is to see Andy again!!

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Yeah, it's pretty wild. Hard to get your mind around... It's a lot like the end of high school! And I hope you enjoyed some sweet sweet Richter on our last show!!!

I have a question: What are you guys going to show next week? My TiVo says there will still be some Conan on.

I remember when Letterman started on CBS (the week before Conan started on Late Night), NBC replayed Dave's first week of shows from 1982.

I was hoping NBC would do the same thing. Or, at the very least, run some of your guys' favorite (old) episodes in full.

I will HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED if y'all air reruns from like 3 or 4 weeks ago!!!

SO PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE, SHOW SOME OF CONAN'S *REALLY OLD* EPISODES.

Thanks, Aaron, for listening and for putting together this awesome blog/podcast/twitter feed/twitter pics.

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: It's just reruns, but I don't know what of - Jordan picks the reruns, so blame him if they suck!! If we DON'T show old episodes, it's because music licensing is too crazy expensive for us to be able to air old shows!!! Hopefully, they'll be old and you'll be happy, J man.

And you're welcome! Thanks for reading!!

I think it's hard for us fans to wrap around the fact that it is going away in less than 24 hours too. Of course it's different for you guys and us because you are apart of the greatness, and we just get to watch and enjoy. But being someone who has religiously watched the show for the past 8 years (since I was in eight grade) I am going to be sincerely upset tomorrow. And thanks to TiVo and VHS tapes, out of those eight years there probably hasn't been more than 5-10 shows that I have missed. And also thanks to the internet and youtube I have seen sooo much of the first 8 years as well. And it seems weird to say, but Late Night has been a huge part of my life.. it's been with me through high school and college, which have been the best years of my life so far (obviously) and I am always going to associate Late Night with that part of my life. I will miss it.. And I guess now Conan and you guys are on to bigger and better things! And I look forward to what you guys will bring us in the years ahead.

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Well, from all of us here, thanks for watching and being a part of OUR lives!! And I hope that we aren't the ONLY ones onto bigger and better things... I hope you are as well, Ashley! ;)

Aaron (Scott?) Bleyeart: thank you from the bottom of my heart for these blogs. I know you'll be back in LA but it won't be the Late Night Insider anymore. You've been so awesome starting this up and putting in all that time giving us the inside dirt on Conan and Late Night. I don't know what I'm gonna do these next three months without new episodes and your daily updates. I'm crying a little bit right now. Bittersweet time this is. But mostly bitter in my opinion. Long live Aaron. Long live Consey. *tears of sorrow*

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: You're welcome, LCW! And don't cry! I'll be right here every Monday with a Tonight Show Transition update!!!! Have no fear, LCW - we'll continue chug chug chugging along!

Hi!
Thank You for the podcast(s) and Underground video(s) that you have promised: now I can die happy. But I WON'T! I'm so gonna be there (well HERE at least) for the Tonight Show!! :D 'celebrate good times C'MON'!
I readed that you hate moving; I'm moving too to a bigger house and my room is totally upsidedown already! Hope you'll have great time!! :)
Now lets cry for the 16 years of joy (did that came out right?) ;)

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: That's the spirit, Emma!!! All of us here are so excited about putting together a great new Tonight Show for you guys!!! The big Transition starts soon!!

Is there any way to squeeze in one last showing of Stackenblocken... the greatest show idea ever?

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Sadly I don't think so, Erik... It will have to live on in the hearts and minds of those of us who loved it.

I LOVE U CONAN AND YOUR SET BASHING COME TO LA SOON. ALSO CAN U CONNECT ME WITH SOMEONE THAT WAS ON YOUR SHOW? Brian Setzer Orchestra. My ex boyfriend he is in the band and is looking for me we were together for 10 years...this is serious...also you are the only person I know that can get Martha to drink a 40 oz beer thats laughs...love you from anther redhead.

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Uh... I'm not sure that we can do that, "Shredder"! Have you tried contacting the band through other means?! Good luck - true love always finds a way.

Too bad that Late Night stops. Will be long to wait for the "new" Tonight Show.

The podcast and the video are great !

(a fan from old continent !)

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Thanks for watching and listening, Artypop!! And what do you mean, an "old continent"? Are you writing from Pangea?!

Aaron Scott Bleyaert!!
LOL, is there any chance of us seeing this picture?? (:
And I LOVED the podcast!! I remember way back when Operation: Silent Thunder first started with your sister as the first guest.. I can still hear Grace saying, "Goooodeveningg! This is Grace Michele Para!!" You guys need to start this podcast up again when you move out to LA; The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien Research Department Podcast! ...that sounds so strange. D:
That Underground video was hilarious! I love the ending; just riding off in a chariot with the bandstand into NYC. Lucky ducklings, I'm very jealous.
Well, I woke up this morning and couldn't get my mind around the idea that the show was ending tonight. I am definently going to end up crying. I started obsessing over Conan and the show back during winter break of 07, and I couldn't help but love all of you guys. I'm sooo glad I found this blog.. I still remember the first one I ever read; "I'm getting laid... OFF" lol. I know, what a great first title to read, right? I've had sooo many laughs thanks to this show and everyone behind the scenes, so I know I'm going to miss you all a LOT. Anyway, I hope you have TONS of fun tonight and cry your heart out at that little after-party for the show. You've been a part of a lot of peoples' lives for quite some time now, and I know we all love you for it. So, be sure to take one last look around the studio, walk down the halls and remember all of the good times, and say goodbye to everyone that won't be joining you to LA. And I have to ask; is that famous Care Bears poster in your office coming with you??
Alright, well, I'm off to school, but I don't know how well I'm going to be concentrating since I'll be looking over at the clock every 3 seconds to see what time it is and trying to guess what all of you are doing in 30 Rock while I'm stuck in school.
This is it. I can't believe it's almost over... take it all in, and don't ever forget today; I know I won't, and I'm not even going to be there for most of the best parts! Enjoy yourself, buddy, you deserve it.
Take care everyone; don't cry too much! *hands tissues*

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Umm... Maybe! I'll see if I can get my hands on it at some point. YES, the Care Bears poster will be coming!! Ha ha ha - I already had to rescue it from the trash once, so I'm not leaving it that easy!!

What's Craig Bierko's connection with the show? I believe he was on the night before Andy's big farwell too. The only reason I remember is because it was the one and only time I was in the studio audience.

Congratulations on 15 great years! All the best out west!

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: He hasn't been on in a while, but he's a good friend to our show, and has been on a bunch of times in the past!! Thanks for the congrats, Tracy!! I hope you'll continue to follow us as we head out West!

Tonight, you should give Jack and Meg sledgehammers to help Conan completely destroy the set! (If Jack's neck is OK)

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: HA HA HA. Great idea, Kathy!!

I could almost see your head sake in disbelief that this is the end of the road. :( Future's bright Bley.

I kind of loved when CoB went Christian Bale on you.

Dag-gum it! I wish I'd known about Conan's love of Quisp sooner. I would have ordered him some from their site.

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: It's only the end of the unpaved road - from here on our, it's all highway, baby!!!

And I didn't know that thing about Quisp, either! That was really cool!!

hey there bleyaert, i know you're busy so this will be my last comment until you all are in LA. thank you all so much for everything you've done, especially you, Hardy, Bruno, and at one time, Parra, with the podcasts and all the sweet behind the scenes stuff. i can't believe you got conan to do the podcast. you are amazing. i am going to go listen to it now. well, good luck with all the preparations for the tonight show and i'll catch you on the flip side (LA). goodbye late night with conan o'brien!

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: No worries, Christina! I'm sorry it's taken so long for me to get to all these great comments... The last few days of the show were just completely insane. Thank YOU for reading and watching and caring about us!! And that podcast thing was all Conan - he was really happy to do it!! I thought he did a fantastic job!!

I figured I'd say it in this post instead of tomorrows but thanks a lot for the 16 years of laughs. I was watching the credits the other night and looking at all the names seeing how many I recognize from your podcast and ramblings about studio life and there were many. However there were many I didn't recognize and I want to thank all of them for working hard on Late Night all these years.

I also want to thank you Aaron for having this Late Night blog. I've been reading it since day 1 and it has really kept me interested in the show and I'm a geek for behind the scenes stuff.

So thanks everybody and see you in LA!

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: You're welcome, Luke. Thanks for being a part of it all! I hope you'll keep reading as we make the transformation into The Tonight Show! It should be crazy and interesting!!

Wow, I can't believe that tonight will be the last Late night with Conan O'brien ever.. well with Conan. Im a bit sad for all of you guy's..
It most be a "mixed feelings" day for everyone today.

So good luck and have a wonderful last day and for what it's worth, this show have meant the world to me ever since I started watching five years ago and it will continued to that when the tonight show begins.

So from the botten of my heart:
Thanks Late night, for the best five years of my life!

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: It IS a mixed feeling thing... But it's also kind of a sigh of relief. We've been working towards this moment for so long - waiting, worrying, hoping - that it's nice to finally arrive and have it over, you know? Put it to bed the right way! And I'm happy that we were able to make YOU happy for the past 5 years!!!

Get Conan to sing the End of the Show song at the end of tonights show! That would be a great way to end it up!

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Actually, he busted out into a little impromptu "40 Days" at the end of the last show taping!! It was rad!!!

Hi Aaron,

I'm wondering if Sharon Hardy, Sarah Bruno, Bruce from Wardrobe, your sister Lisa etc... are going with Conan to LA? Can you reveal which writers are going too?

I'm sympathetic to the Late Night staffers that must be left behind! I hope those that don't go to LA, are at least able to find work with Jimmy Fallon.

It's been a weepy time for me and I know for the rest of the fans... emotionally I'm a wreck! But looking forward to the future, I am so proud of Conan. He will be the Best Host of the "TONIGHT SHOW, ever!

... And if you were not going Aaron, it would have been unbearable. You are our special friend and our front row seat to Conan.

--Great last podcast Aaron, wow Conan, was hilarious and yet so sentimental. I can't stand crying anymore....

'Late Night' "Thanks for the Memories.... Cheerio and Toodle-oo and thank you so much."

Conan's Curtain Call
Feb 20, 2009

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Sharon is going to LA, but will not be continuing with the show!!! :( Bruno, my sister, and Brumage are all going, though!! Several of our folks are going to Fallon, which is awesome!! And thanks for the kind words, CCC - I'm happy that I'll continue blogging for you guys!!! We're not saying goodbye, just "See you later"!!

Happy(/sad) last day Aaron! You are all on to bigger and better things. I'm throwing a Conan watching party tonight and forcing people who have never seen Late Night to watch the show. It's going to be the saddest and most awesome show ever.

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Agreed, LCW... Agreed.

In all these years of looking forward to The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, I didn't think about how it would feel to say goodbye to Late Night. He's still going to be on the air, but the show that has made me laugh through high school, college and now my "grown-up" life, well, it isn't going to be there anymore. And that's weird to me. Where has the time gone?

I'm glad that I have the Tonight Show to look forward to, or else tonight would be utterly depressing. I'll probably still shed some tears, though.

Thanks to everyone at Late Night for all the laughs and memories!

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: I know what you're saying, Kara - I feel extremely lucky that I'm on a show that's continuing, instead of just going off the air! Everything would be a LOT more difficult. As it is now, it's just super exciting!!!

I'm not only losing Late Night but also the podcast! Terrible, terrible news. I'd listen to a Blartcast, though! Think about it.

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: A blartcast?! Whatever do you mean?

I want to do a Tonight Show podcast, but I think I'll have to come up with a different format - having Conan on was like the ultimate "Staff Interview" guest, you dig?

Your twitter updates are making me depressed. Please stop.

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: I can't, LCW. I CAN'T. I CANNOT STOP TWITTERING!!! I think it's becoming an addiction!

Andy!

Haha what did you do to the office?

That video is amazing. :)

************************************************************
Aaron Responds: The office is a mess. It's a frightening mirror image of my mental state.

Dear Conan,

Since the first time I was introduced to your show by friend in 2001, I became an addicted loyal fan of your show. Your scene of humor and spontaneous funny reaction to comments and the audience made you an idol or late night comedy, not to mention the superb music provided by the sensational Max Weinberg 7 Band.

It is sad to see you leaving the show based in New York City, but at the same time, my family and I promise to be a devoted audience of The Tonight Show with Conan OBrien located in Los Angeles, CA.

I sincerely wish you all the success and prosperity in you career and will always be a huge fan of your comedy.

Best regards.

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Well said, Husam. Thanks for taking the time to let us into your lives every night!
