There's a freaking MADCAP CIRCUS on tonight's show, as we "get rid of" three more childish characters from our Late Night line up! Hey! Stop giving me the finger, party people - it's by decree of OUR NEW PRESIDENT! He said we must "put aside childish things". Look; DO YOU WANT HIM TO FIX THIS COUNTRY OR NOT? We here at Late Night are just trying to do our part!!

Also on the program tonight - the "Conan Goes To The Detroit Auto Show" Remote that we show to the audience (and I told you about) yesterday! That remote is just like a sky blue '59 Chevy... CLASSIC.

The final thing I'll mention about who's on the show tonight has to do with the title of this post. Can you guess who I'm talking about? It's...

MARC MARON, of course! Marc Maron holds the distinction of being the guest who has been on our show the most number of times - the number of times being, obviously, 42. FORTY TWO TIMES IN FIFTEEN YEARS. That's a lot of appearances!! Tonight is his 42nd appearance, and I'm sure it'll be just as funny as his last 41 times. How many times has Marc been on the show? Well, He's been on the show so many times that Jimmy Vivino gives him a guitar backstage to screw around with in his dressing room. He's been on the show so many times that he once recognized me in a comedy club - and that was BEFORE I started doing the blog. He's been on the show SO MANY TIMES, he's not allowed to look Conan in the eyes during commercial breaks!!

And that's a lot of times.

Finally, THANK YOU to everyone who wrote in and let us know your favorite character. As Late Night winds down, these are all good things to know. In fact, pretty soon we're going to do something on the Underground where you can make your suggestions OF YOUR ALL TIME FAVORITE SKETCHES for us to use in our last shows!!! EXCITEMENT! Look for that tomorrow - or possibly later this week - and get those thinking caps on and humming!!

All right... I'm off to watch the season premiere of LOST!! See you all tomorrow!

« Back to Blog

"put aside childish things"... I'd rather you keep your childish characters and him not fix the country!!... or... keep your characters and him still fix the country. Ya that sounds right. I'm happy you're doing the remote tonight!! I was expecting it last night and was upset that you didn't do it. So I guess i'll except it a day later. Lastly, I am sooo EXCITED that you're letting us write in our favorite sketches!!! Alright, I really need to get my mind grapes flowing.

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Ha ha. Blame Obama, dude. Not us! AND GET THOSE MIND GRAPES A FLOWING ALREADY.

BLEY! My computer crashed, and I never got around to fixing it, so I've lost out on a lot of sweet, sweet blog-y goodness. Tonight's show sounds pretty good. I don't have time to read all the blogs I missed, so...did the notification of ticket winners end yet? I know you said you'd let us know when the e-mails stopped being sent out so we could "begin the mourning process." Just curious!

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: NOOOOOOOOO. That sucks. Every time a computer crashes, a devil gets its horns! (Whatever that means). Yes. The notification period is over, so if you didn't get contacted about tix... You're out of luck. I'm sorry, dudebro.

awesome! I love it when Conan goes on remotes. hmm I don't think I've ever seen Marc Maron on the show, remember that I'm a new viewer though, but I'll be sure to watch tonight's show this weekend. argh! I really hate the last week of the semester. I have so many tests and essays due! I feel like I haven't seen a new show since Christmas since they've been reruns on Fridays lately. That's so sad about the show nearing the end. But I would be very indignant if I were you since the show is over in about a month and NBC hasn't let you know what they're going to do with you! Best of luck though, I hope everyone will be able to go with Conan.

by the way, have they sent out all the tickets yet?

****************************************************
Aaron Responds: Yes! They have sent out all the tickets... Sorry, Christina! What essays do you have to do? What tests do you have to study for?!

I remember that office voice-dialing phone being hilarious. Conan should give it another whirl before he leaves it behind.

****************************************************
Aaron Responds: Ha! We're still staying at NBC, remember... And that's a company wide thing, I'd imagine!!

Really? he had to do his 42nd appearance the same night that LOST comes back? really? and you had to throw in that it was his 42nd in fifteen years? the title of this blog might as well have been 4 8 15 16 23 42. I'm still recovering from that mind melting 2 hour long punch in the face. the last thing I needed was to go on here and see that.

sorry that sounded so aggressive. Like I said I'm still recovering from LOST.

****************************************************
Aaron Responds: HA HA HA OMFG DOOD!!! I have LOST on the brain, too!! Great premiere, btw. Totally into it!

Ooooh, I'm excited for the remote. Watching a Late Night remote is what got me hooked on the show in the first place. Please stop putting aside the childish things on the show because 1) I'm quite fond of the childish things you guys have (why, oh why would you toss aside Cactus Chef) and 2) You won't have enough material to fill the whole hour.

I agree with Paul...Andy Blitz's character who shouted never-ending chants in the audience. The person leading the chants in our student section for our football games sucked really bad, and it made me think of this character. Awesome. Andy Blitz is hilarious. What's he been up to? You guys should bring back "60"!

What every happened to that half-man, half-pansy character played by Dorff? Didn't you guys put that character through a wood-chipper during one episode? I also like the Slip-Nutz characters. Bring them back, too.

****************************************************
Aaron Responds: 1.) I agree, and 2.) I TOTALLY agree! Blitz is doing great; he comes back and visits the office every once in a while! Last I talked to him, he was still working on a movie he was writing!

And Mansie, the half man half pansy is still around, I believe! I can't remember if he ended up in the chipper or not! No one on our show ever really dies, though... Just look at the kayak guy!

Hey Bley
Long time no comment, but as a sit here at 2:30 strumming a guitar reflecting on the sweetness of Conan's show an hour prior I think it is my duty to inform you of mans greatest accomplishment since finding fire...
My I present,
The Ice Cream Cupcake.
Oh yes it is real and it is delicious. Like cupcakes and ice cream delicious. Yeah that's it really. Also I'd like to say that I'm gonna miss this blog when COB leaves. You too cool for words Bley my man too cool for words.

****************************************************
Aaron Responds: Thanks, JD! You're pretty cool cat yourself! How long have you played the six string (unless you're one of those dudes who likes Korn and plays the seven string guitar)?

MAN THE PREMIERE WAS AWESOME!!! I was giggling like a little girl when i saw ******** **********!

Whos your favorite character Bley?
I think I am in love with Evangeline Lilly! (can't wait for her to come to the show next week!)

too many !!!

****************************************************
Aaron Responds: TOTALLY!!! Holy crap on a stick... Those guys sure know how tto write a show. Super, super impressive!! And I'm doing Lilly's research, so I'm super stoked!!

I don't know how my friends aren't interested in the US politics. It's way more interesting then politics here in Finland. Thanks for the recommendation of "The Economist", I need to look up for it.
All time favourite sketches will be even tougher to choose than the characters... But I need to think about it overnight. How is it even possible that Cloppy wasn't mentioned that many times? It is anyways Nicholas Cages favourite character. =)

****************************************************
Aaron Responds: I think politics EVERYWHERE are interesting... It's cool (and sometimes, NOT cool) to see the way that different people in different areas of the world handle things, you know?

There is this one thing that really bugs me about the show. In the begining of every show when Conan walks out and jumpes on the star and the camera cuts to max wienberg 7 you can see this guy standing next to Pender, and this mystery guy does the peace sign. Who is that guy and why is he doing the peace sign?

****************************************************
Aaron Responds: Huh? I'll have to look for it. I have no idea who you're talking about. Could it be Jerry Vivino? Or possibly Steve Hollander? I'll have to watch a show tomorrow and see if I can spot them.

No more tickets left? There's no reason to live! Where's my kayak??!!! So sad. I live in Texas but was so prepared to make the trip if I won tickets. Guess I need to make a trip to Cali someday.

Loved the Detroit remote! The Lotus cracked me up. It would have been fun to see him get in a smart car, but I'm guessing he would have suffered some sort of serious injury getting out of it.

Was hoping he would bring his Ford Taurus to the auto show -- maybe he'll take it to LA?

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Sorry, Kara!! There's always the Tonight Show, though!! I am almost 100 percent sure he's taking his Taurus out there... I would be shocked - SHOCKED - if he left it behind. ;)

Hi Aaron,

I can't wait to mention some sketches that I hope make it to the final shows. I'm really sad Conan is leaving Late Night, but I know he will Kick Ass on the Tonight Show!

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Thanks Mark!!! I think he will, too!!! I think we're doing that sketch thing tonight, but I'll know more in a little bit!

(refering to the previous comment reguarding the guy next to Pender giving the peace sign)

I just watched last nights episode and watched for this. I saw what he is talking about. It looks like the camera guy gave the peace sign. I have never noticed this in any other episode (but I guess I have not been looking either). Who is this guy? What is he doing? My guess is that he is a camera guy signaling what camera is on?

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: All right, I actually went back and watched the beginnings of our last three shows, and I have no idea what you crazy people are talking about. Can someone post a screencap of what you're talking about?

I was wondering if there is anyway to post a video on the Underground of Brian McCann warming up an audience b/f at aping or Conan talking with the audience before a taping. From what I hear it is a fun experience. Since all the tickets are now given out for the rest of the shows run I would love to see what I am missing.

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Great request!! I'll see what I can do...

Have you seen the new set of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon? I assume that since they start in March they must have the set almost done. What is it like? Is the new studio going to be as small as your current studio? Why did the new Late Night not move into the current studio? Any word on what will happen to 6A?

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Well... From the looks of 6B, there IS no set yet. Their studio is just a big empty room right now. I'm guessing that they didn't move into 6A because they've got to be up and running before our show is done, so there'd be no way for both shows to exist in the same studio! No idea what'll happen to 6A... I heard that a show called "Dr. Oz" might move in there!

I'm a little behind on the blog. Looks like all my favorite characters have been mentioned already... except for the Fun Hole guy, the character-tastic guy, the guy who tries so hard to figure out who tomorrow's guests are but is just a little off, and the guy whose eyes show different emotions in response to Conan (that always impresses me for some reason).

But the real reason I wanted to post was after reading this "42" blog and seeing Keith link it so eerily to the Lost premiere, I got a little spooked while watching Ghost this weekend. In the scene where Patrick Swayze is in the subway trying to kick a can, there are 42's everywhere (I'm assuming for 42nd street).

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Oh Fun Hole... I love Fun Hole, but I hate myself for loving it. You know?

And be careful, dude! That whole numerology thing is a slippery slope! Didn't you see that movie "23"?

Wow, I can't believe that they are only 5 weeks out and the studio for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon is not complete yet (or started for that matter). That is crazy. I guess over at NBC you can turn things around fast!

Dr. Oz -- really? I don't think he is worthy to use 6A.

On a side note - I think the suggestion for a underground video of the audience warm up is a great one. I also would love to see the "end of show song" someone suggested last week.

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: I know!! It is pretty wild! I'm sure when things happen they'll happen fast.

Yes! Those are both great suggestions!
