OPERATION: SILENT THUNDER

Posted August 01, 02:20 PM

There are a handful of momentous, truly paradigm changing events in the history of Mankind. The Big Bang. The separating of Pangean Supercontinent. That time that those monkeys found that giant black monolith (as recorded in the famous documentary "Stanley Kubrick's 2001").

And now, the most momentous occasion of them all... THE CONCLUSION OF OPERATION: SILENT THUNDER.

Are you ready? Are you REALLY ready?! Are YOU really ready?!? Are you really READY?!??

Then, Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present...

THE LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN O'BRIEN RESEARCH DEPARTMENT PODCAST!!!

That's right! Parra, Hardy and I will be doing a Late Night podcast every week - even the weeks we're on hiatus! Each week, we'll spend 15 minutes with a different Conan staffer discussing the ins and outs of working on the show; telling juicy never-before-heard behind the scenes stories, and taking your questions (that you email us at conanpodcast at nbc dot com)! We might even have special non-Late Night SURPRISE guests drop in every so often! Now you don't even have to be near your computer to get your Late Night fix! Starting next week, you'll be able to either subscribe to our delicious audio treat or, if you're not podcast savvy, you can come right back here to the Late Night Insider and listen over the 'net!! HOW COOL IS THAT?! I'll tell you kids: Extremely cool. Here's our very first episode, presented for your listening pleasure... And please, be gentle with us. We're new to this whole thing!!

Just click below... And enjoy!

Your podcast will show in a sec!

A big thanks to the Mozart of our Times (and Script Coordinator) John Crotteau, for hooking us up with an amazing theme song! Thanks, dudebro!!

Be sure to catch the big Friday night show this evening... We've got none other than TRIUMPH, THE INSULT COMEDY DOG AT THE SAN DIEGO COMIC CON!!! COULD TODAY GET ANY BETTER?!??

It couldn't... And that's my cue to wish everyone a great weekend!! See you all Monday!

Hey Aaron! I LOVE the podcast idea!!! Operation Silent Thunder was definitely worth the hype! However, I was unable to click on the link for the podcast. Well, I clicked on it, but it was just the normal cursor, not the hand thing like when you are able to click on a link. Please help, because I want to be able to listen to the Silent Thunder! Haha. Thank you!

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: AWESOME! I'm so glad you liked it, Julie! I was worried there... I know what you're saying; there was some trouble with the link in IE at first, but it should be working now! Did you get it to work!??!

Whoa. That's amaa-aazing! I was thinking it was just going to be some vid you made. (which woulda been nice) but this is so much better!

interesting info too! sometimes up to 70 stand-by tickets? I would thinking it would be like five! I have to see the show-- but I feel like now the show will be more popular than ever.. who knows.

but this is awesome!

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Oh yes. That's why I haven't made any recent Underground videos as of late (although we're shooting three this week), I've been busy making this whole podcast thing lately.

When I came up with the idea of the podcast, it was that the Underground would be pure comedy, the blog would be both comedy and behind the scenes stuff, and the podcast would be ALL behind the scenes/informational stuff... So that's kind of what we're going for there.

PODCAST!!! Yay I'm excited, by the way I had no idea Scrabulous was taken off....boo that sucks

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: I know! Now how are we going to communicate?!

Thank you thank you thank you!! This is such a great resource for all Conan fans. I'm ecstatic!
It was definetely worth the hype = )

~~Liz

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: SWEETNESS!!! I'm happy you dig it, Liz!!

What is Lisa's e-mail? I want to send her an email with my opinion on who they best bley really is!

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Ha ha ha! Well, since she's the Audience Coordinator, I can't really give out her email on the web - she would murder me - but feel free to email any comments you've got to latenightunderground at gmail dot com!

Been a long fan of the Late Night. Over the years I have noticed Conan is clapping more during the opening. Its not distracting but quite funny, I will sometimes catch my self counting the number of claps. Is he just trying to keep people awake from the boring show. Just a thought but maybe a "Live Count" on the claps during a show would be pretty funny. Let me know what you think.

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: HA HA HA HA. Really?! I'll have to watch for that! Good idea, Nathan!

aaron scott bleyaert!!
I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you and did I mention I LOVE YOU?!? OMG O:ST did NOT disappoint!! This is my 500th time listening to it I think. I love how you could hear laughing in the background after the "NBC integrity" part lol. I just loved the whole thing :)
That Triumph bit was awecellent! I love the whole pushup thing rofl. Man that dog never gets old.
I didn't know that Brendan Frasier was the first 3D guest on the show. More history being made right before our eyes.
Thanks for figuring out Conan's fave color for me! I don't know why but I've always wondered that lol.
Well, I'm sure you're reading this on Monday, so I hope you all had a good weekend!!
take care everyone!!
ps- I love you :)

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: I love you too, Courtney!! I'm psyched you dig it!! Just wait until episode two... And how was YOUR weekend? Anything crazy happen?!

Hi!!!

Omg!!!! This is so cool!!! I love ur podcast theme song!!!!! No wonder u guys have been so secretive, u have been working like dogs trying to put this together.

I think u guys did a great job!! I can't wait to hear more! So is this going to be an everyday thing or just once a week thing??

I am going to try to come up with really good questions to ask u guys. Do u think u guys will interview Conan soon???

Loved the show tonight!! Triumph is always great to watch, lol

Have a great weekend Aaron, and keep up the good work!!!

Muah!!!

Kat

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Thanks!! The guy who did the song, John Crotteau, is a musical genius of the highest order - and it was extremely nice for him to donate his time and hard work making it awesome! Thanks, Johnny!!

I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to get Conan to do one... We'll see. Oh, and it'll be a once a week thing... I'm thinking, like, every Thursday? But unlike the blog or the underground, we'll post new ones even over hiatus!

Aaron i love the blog and the videos but you have taken it to the next level with these podcasts! Thanks mate!
im looking forward to the next one :)
Thanks all the way from Melbourne Australia, Jess.

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Thanks, Jess!! You have no idea how worried I was about not living up to my own hype!! I gotta be more careful next time! ;)

Operation: Silent Thunder is a hit. Interesting how people who request tickets just don't show up. When there's something free, I never miss out. And these "Conanized" Pins. Might we someday see these?

As for the Triumph video, loved it. It's a shame Smigel exploits the character on Comedy Central on the same shows that Andy Dick guest judges on...

PS. Great theme song and you guys handled your first podcast really professionally!

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: I actually posted about the Conanized pins a little while back... Right here:

http://blog.nbc.com/latenight/2007/09/conanized.php

And thanks for the kind words about the Podcast! We're learning, slowly but surely...

Wicked, yo.
I must say, Triumph was awesome. And so was the guy that licked him.
Hardy has a nice voice, I must say. If she ever decided to go into radio, then she'd be pretty good at it.
If you ever come home from a party with glowsticks wrapped around your ankle Grecian-style, then you've had a good time.
Also, I visited the KKK website as a joke, and I there's an article on the front page that I found a touch hilarious. Apparantly, white Christian Americans are underheard.
Ahh... noun... I need a noun... Brownie (yay!)

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Totally!! Man... Triumph just has the perfect cutdowns at the perfect time! That's one dog who is quick on his feet!

Hardy has a GREAT voice. And a great demeanor!

Frick yes!!!!!!!!! What a great idea, podcast!!!!!!!! I am going to subscribe right away, dude. And I had no clue your sister was the Audience Coordinator! I think I saw here when I was in the audience in March. I would've totally razzed her had I known (and probably been promptly bounced out on my arse).

She makes a great point about being nice to people in charge. Once my wife and I were on a flight that got cancelled because of weather and we were at the counter to rebook. The guy in front of us was a total jerk to the airline rep and grumbled as he walked away. When we got to the counter, we were understanding and patient and the ticket agent was so thankful, she upgraded us to First Class! It pays to be nice!

Way to go on the podcast, I'm already a fan!

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Awesome... Just as soon as I figure out how to make it subscribable! Thanks, Brad!

Yeah, people like airline ticket people are ESPECIALLY susceptible to acts of kindness, because I think they probably get a lot of attitude! I say be nice and Pay it forward!!!

One day I'd like to hear this on my iPod.

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: ...And that day is coming soon!

The operation begged to be polled about, and as you already know, polls on Bleyaert's doings are my specialty:
http://www.pollsb.com/polls/poll/2035137/the-first-late-night-with

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: HA HA HA!!! Thanks John S!! I am a huge fan of your polls! Nice work!

Triumph, as always, is hilarious. Congrats on your inaugural podcast.

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Completely agreed, zhaf! And thanks!!

Very cool!

Hilarious about your sister working at the same office as you. That is just a hilarious twist of fate and if she deals with the audience I've probably seen her when I saw the show last year.

Or maybe not.

Actually, next time I submit a ticket request to the show I'm totally writing the nice stuff for Lisa!

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: I'm sure you did... And that would be a classy move!

I can feel the rumble tumble (hopefully it's not another earthquake). Aaron, my expectations of Operation: Silent Thunder has been thoroughly met and it has exceed far beyond. This is the burrito supreme!!! Not only am I faithful fan of your blog, I will also be a loyal listener of the Research Dept. Podcast. My ears have been warmly hugged by your 1st episode. Cheers to you, Parra and Hardy for many more awexcellent podcasts to come in the near future.
Overall, this is quite inventive (15pts) *nudge, nudge. wink, wink.*

Nice getting to know you, Miss Lisa Bleyaert aka Aaron's little sister. I've actually seen your sister get snippy at one of the pages when I came to see a show. No joke. Hahaha!
"Late-night, pod-cast!"
-stef

PS On Thursday, August 7th, it will be not only my birthday but it will also be exactly one year ago when I attended a taping of Late Night @:?)

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Ha ha - thanks, Stef! And I got your hint. ;)

And sometimes my sis CAN get snippy... But then again, can't all of us? And HAPPY BIRTHDAY ON THE 7TH!!

Aaron,

I love your cockroach story. You gave that bug personality! He's a music fan and wishes he could rock out with you guys. I love that "alternating between he's so cute and let's kill him!". One of your best and funniest blogs in a while. I think my favorite blog of yours is from a while back: The food spill blog with all the funny pictures!

I won't be completely without tv. Right now I'm paying $85 a month for Comcast cable and I don't get Cinemax, HBO, Starz, etc. I get Encore channels but all the movies are at least 15 years old. So I'm switching to the Dish Satellite Network. There I get free HBO and Starz for 3 months and free Cinemax for a year with only one string attached. For about $30 bucks a month it's a great deal!

I spend very little time watching tv but when I do watch it I expect it to work! Comcast has scrambled Conan's show for the last time! Plus the repair people they send out are creepy, and they don't know what they're doing or don't show up at all!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIIudD44o58

Cindy

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Thanks Cindy!!! That DOES sound like a great deal!! I don't have time to watch much TV, but when I do, it's Mad Men and Generation Kill - the last time that I was in to 2 shows at once, they were MacGuyver and Quantum Leap! So it's been a while.

I got SOOO upset when I didn't get in the show a few years ago. Granted I was only standby but it was still upsetting. I did get in the next day though so all hope in life was restored. I remember dealing with a dude though. Was Lisa there 3 years ago? Yeah for a podcast!! One more thing to keep up with each week. And I mean that in a good way. Loved Triumph at Comic Con!!

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: A BUNCH of years ago it was a short dude named Jonathan Hefter... But my sister was probably here, and you just dealt with one of the NBC Pages. I'm glad you're into the podcast!! You guys still in England, or what?!

Getting turned down to get in the show is a HUGE BLOW!! Especially for us people who stand in the Stand by line. We are obviously the people who care the most, I mean I stood in line for 7 hours. Luckily I got in the next day so it's all good. Anyways love the new Podcasts!!

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: No, no, I know it is... And the standbys are the true fans, I agree!! I'm glad you guys made it in, at least!! We've got a small studio... Sometimes it's hard to get everyone in... *cough cough*

This is awesome! You guys are really entertaining, and I look forward to future podcasts. Can I be honest with you? Triumph has some good one-liners and stuff, but in general, I'm not a huge fan of him. I feel like I'm not a complete Late Night fan because I'm not partial to Triumph, but I can't help it. Did Conan re-use the James and the Giant Prostate joke? I swear he's used that punch-line before. How was your weekend?

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Thanks, LCW!!! Don't worry - everybody likes different things... For instance, some are partial to the Interrupter, where others enjoy the Masturbating Bear a bit more! IT'S WHAT MAKES US HUMAN.

My weekend was good! I went to the beer garden, I went to a rooftop party, and I hit up the Taco Truck twice in one night! Bonus! How was yours?!

iTunes version so we can subscribe, please!

https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/publishPodcast

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: I'm working on it... It'll be ready hopefully by the end of this week!

this is why i love COB!! i'm so serious. I'm not just a fan. I'm a lover of all things COB. I sitting here watching tonite's show and catching up on ur posts. Only when I miss multiple posts, do I realize how time flies... I read & say damn, it's been that long since I read. It feels like it was just two days ago.
I'm so serious about my fanhood to the blog that I'm going to put ALL of my 'puters on a timer to remind me! Maybe even on my blackberry! oh wait, i just had an idea, y don't u guys partner up with BB to get COB alerts on their devices! can you imagine that!! what it would do for COB!!!!

okay i'm talking to much for one post now. i'm signing up for the podcast now! this means i can now listen you guys even when i'm sitting poolside at some exotic destination! (ooh another idea just came to mind!!--will tell in another post)...

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: You're telling me!! When you write a blog every day, you forget how many blog posts you actually do!

The podcast is made of awesome. I am very excited for upcoming episodes!

But there's just one question: Will the COB ever make an appearance in the form of lavish vocals!?

***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: That is the question!! I would think at some point he would!! We need to get a few more under our belt before we ask him, though... We don't want any screwups when the boss is around!

i love this podcast and the insight into late night crowd control. i got invited to round two of the page program interview process. i hope to make it in and work with lisa one day! i don't know what a conanized pin looks like, but i want one already.

************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Hey, CONGRATULATIONS, MARIE! That's awesome!!! That's the panel interview, right? Good luck! Just remember to be friendly and relaxed, and I'm sure you'll do great! And here's what a Conanized Pin looks like: http://blog.nbc.com/latenight/2007/09/conanized.php
