Late Night with Jimmy Fallon!
Posted May 12, 08:47 PM
Today was a very special day here at the show, for one simple reason:
It was officially announced earlier today that Jimmy Fallon will be taking over Late Night in 2009!!!
...And, of course, it should now be obvious who that "special mystery guest" was that I was researching last week. ;) I told you it was TOP SECRET, suckas!!!
Mr. Jimmy "Late Night in 2K9" Fallon himself stopped by our show today to say hello and make with the funny! Of course, he did awesome - I mean, JF is mucho hilarious, and he always brings tons of great material. The interview was really fun (and obviously for all of us here in the office very compelling) to watch...It was a little surreal for me personally, just thinking about the fact that this is the guy who'll be in our studio come 2009!! Treat her well, Jimmy... Treat my 6A baby well. ;)
I've said this before and I'll say it again: It's always nice when someone who's a good friend to the show comes on, because it's nice to see Conan just goof off and have a good time - like Fallon, or Will Farrell or Will Arnett, or... Will SHATNER, OUR SECOND GUEST TONIGHT. Fallon?! Shatner?! An awesome Year 2000?!? Ha ha. That's right, baby!!! INSTANT LATE NIGHT CLASSIC.
There's really nothing more I could possibly say about such a ginormous announcement, so I'll just say that y'all should make sure you check out tonight's show!!! It's a barnburner!! Enjoy!!
Hi Aaron!!!
Thanks for approving me for on Facebook, now all I gotta do is learn the fablous game of Scrabulous, lol.
Well, its official, Jimmy Fallon! I like Jimmy, he was very funny on SNL, I especially liked the Boston teenage guy he use to play. I also loved him in Fever Pitch. So now the question is: What happens to the Late Night with Conan O'brien staff?? Do u guys pack up and move to Cali? I am guessing Jimmy will be bringing his own people, so u guys can't really stay either?? Would u rather stay in NYC or move to Cali??
By the way the Jordan remote was so funny. I love that Conan was a little tipsy. Was he really tipsy or was he just acting for the camera?? I also loved when he was checking the wine bottle and he rocked than licked it, lol. He was really mean to Jordan "Shut the F%&k up?" Loved it.
Well talk to u soon buddy!!!
Kat

Aaron Responds: Hey Kat! I'm not sure where I'll end up - NYC or LA - but I'm sure it'll all work out. Does Fallon even have "people" yet?! I have no idea!!
I loved the Jordan remote as well - and I do think that they were a little tipsy!! My favorite part of the remote was when Jordan was like "I'm in heaven" and Conan said "I wish you were". HILARIOUS!!!
Kat, (09:24 PM)
So crazy story... last night I had a dream where I was watching Conan and you can only imagine who the guest was... that's right.. it was Jimmy Fallon. And then I learn earlier today that he was going to be on the show and I freaked out a bit.. my dream came true! so weird!!... anyway, I feel like I haven't seen Fallon in forever so I stoked to see him on the show tonight.. So are you going to still be working at Late Night or are you going to the Tonight Show??
************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: OMFG. SRSLY?! Ha ha ha. That's actually pretty awesome... Try to have a dream about tomorrow's lottery numbers!!!
I'm not sure what's happening with the whole "Jimmy or Conan" thing. I'd clearly love to work for the Tonight Show, but I'm not sure what's going on with that yet.
Ashley , (10:32 PM)
"Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" That's weird, I have to be honest I became a little teary eyed when I read this blog. I'm gonna be sad when Conan leaves, I know he is still going to be on TV but not at Late Night where I have been watching him for so many years. Jimmy will be good though, I have faith. It's actually ok because I have been a fan of Jimmy's ever since he was on SNL, so it will be nice to see him around everyday.
************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Oh yeah!! Fallon is awesome, and a super nice dude! The awesome part is that people already know him, so hopefully when he starts at Late Night he'll have an easier time than Conan (who was an unknown when he started) did!!!
Lindsey, (10:42 PM)
So when Fallon comes on board what happens to everyone? do you have a new boss, pack up to go to Cali, or start looking for new jobs (go to work on a "movie")? hopefully not the 3rd one cause I don't think you can take much more of that closet anymore
************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: HAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah... That closet was pretty much the worst thing ever. I'm not actually sure right now what the future holds for ol' Bley! I'd love to work on the Tonight Show, so we'll see what happens!!
THIS IS THE 2ND BEST NEWS IN MY WORLD IN 2008 SO FAR!!
WOO HOO PEOPLE!! NBC IS ABOUT TO SHUT IT DOWN FOOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
COB at 11:35 and Jimmy at 12:34!!!!!!
************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: A TEAM THAT CAN'T BE BEAT!!!!
Bren, (11:45 PM)
Fallon!? I was hoping for Tom Green.
Are you not going LA style with Conan?
***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Tom Green is great as well... But he already had a talk show!! He should've just kept the one he had!!
I'm not sure what's happening with the LA piece! I'd love to, but we'll see!
Grant, (11:51 PM)
I'm not gonna lie--I'm really curious to see how things will turn out after the switch up. Any idea who will be switching over to The Tonight Show? What happens for the people who are currently at Leno who will be replaced? (well, besides Leno...I don't think even he knows what is going on haha)
Oh, I was going to start a game of scrabulous with you but it looks like you've got a lot on your plate. Plus, you'll want all the practice you can get before you take on a master such as myself
************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: I haven't heard about what's happening with our people or the Tonight Show's people. Maybe we can all just work on one gigantic Mega Tonight Show!
re: Scrabulous - Bring it on, sucka!!! There's no end to the number of games I can lose at once!!! ;)
Sarahmel, (12:00 AM)
Can Conan stay in NYC or does he have to move the show to California? If so, does he take all his staff or does he take over Jay's staff and you become Jimmy's staff?
I'm so confused.
************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Unfortunately, I haven't heard what's happening staffwise with everyone... However, I'm pretty sure that Conan's moving out to LA! ;)
Jennifer, (12:19 AM)
So is it known yet whether you will stay in NYC with the new regime or follow Conan out west? And if you do know, can you tell us??
************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Hahahaha!!! Well, I haven't heard much, but when I hear something (or find out what's going on), I will CERTAINLY let you all know!!
Brad, (12:34 AM)
Always enjoy Shatner. Fallon...not so much. His type of humor has never appealed to me. I didn't even crack a smile when he was on tonight. I cannot believe I am admitting this but I think Carson Daly would be a better replacement than Fallon.
Speaking of instant Late Night Classic, have the writers ever thought about incorporating a mailbag skit? There are many shows on television now that are using them (mostly shows on the news networks), and it would be interesting to see how Late Night would handle something similar. They should let the fans write in and when some are selected to be read on the air, simply let Conan do his thing. He is fantastic at improv.
************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Really? Well, I'll say this - give him a shot! 15 years ago, a lot of people underestimated a man who was given a shot at glory, and they were pleasantly surprised. That man's name? Mathematician Andrew Wiles.
Also, people thought Conan O'Brien would never make it and he did pretty good.
DA, (01:41 AM)
sounds like an awesome show, can't wait!
I have a really iomportant question regarding COB in 2009 though. When Conan gets to LA to do take over the Tonight Show, will the musical guests change?
At the moment I record COB every night, and it always strikes me that the Leno musical guest at the end is almost always some absolutely awful country music.
Will you guys get to control the guests more so that we continue getting the generally great music we get now?!
OK, bye for now!
************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Hmm... Great question Ryan!! I really have no idea what will happen with the tone of music acts that Conan will have on the Tonight Show!!! Hopefully, the music will remain true to the tone that we've set here at Late Night!!
Ryan, (01:49 AM)
How did I not know about this blog?? I just found it tonight after reading about Jimmy Fallon! Spent about 3 hrs watching some videos and reading some stuff-- you guys are great! I interned there like 4 years ago...Aaron, you sent me on an errand to find a Ken doll that looked like some Senator that was going to be on the show. It took all day and I couldn't find a single damn doll!! Good times, I miss it! I'll definitely be back here to see what you guys are up to! Pretty cool about Fallon though!
***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Hey, I remember you!! What's up duder?! How's life? What have you been up to?!
SarahK, (02:57 AM)
Hey, Aaron!
Have you seen that Jimmy Fallon`s interview , why there are two videos?it`s so weird..
And I think that "new" guy is a little fake. But I think Conan has so amazing personality that no one can top that.
************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Wait, what do you mean "two videos", Melissa? I'm confused.
Melissa, (10:13 AM)
I have to admit that watching this particular show was rather saddening. It hit me that the change is really happening, and it's not that I had been in denial, but I don't know... it's hard to explain. I will say one thing, though, I will be a thousand times - no, a zillion times - more sad the day finally comes, especially if I end up not being able to go to a taping.
Talk about pressure since there isn't that much time. This was all pretty much a ramble, wasn't it?
************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: Ha ha ha... It's okay, Clara Lou. After all, Conan's not LEAVING, he's just switching shows!! And don't worry about the rambling - you're full of grief! You're not thinking clearly!!
Clara Lou, (11:36 AM)
in my entire late night watching life, i have only watched 2 hosts. Dave and Conan. Now that Conan is going to The Tonight Show i thought i was going to just stick with Conan and abandon Late Night, but i really like Fallon. I always have. I remember when Jimmy was on Late Night and he came out and did the "Conan Pre-Monologue" dance for a bit and thought then, that he would make a good host.
Here is the big question...i have asked it before and i will ask it again...Are you doods coming or staying? i guess that you dont have to answer now.
************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: I feel the same way - I think Fallon's gonna do a great job. he's got good charisma, he's got great comic timing, and he'll be great in sketches as well!
As for LA, I still have no idea what the future holds. Obviously, I'd love to work out in LA for the Tonight Show, but I don't know what'll happen. Trust me, I will let you know when I hear anything!
ralph-, (12:37 PM)
I don't really know Fallon, other than his face and name. SNL isn't on here in Denmark (neither is Conan, which is why I'm going to hell when I die, because I sort of watch the show anyway, nevermind mentioning how, but it's worth going to hell if it means I get my daily Conan while I'm alive, but please do tell the nbc people you need to get some international advertisement deal-thingy so the rest of the world can watch the show on nbc.com, and this is like the longest sentence in a sentence ever), so I've just seen him in a few movies and random shows. But he was funny on Conan. Same kind of jokes he made. So we'll see.
Are you, Aaron, going to L.A.?
I'd love to play that scrabble-thing with you, and since English is my second language you are bound to win, but facebook still won't let me add you. So if you want, you can add me. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=506884045
************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: I'm not sure about LA, only because I haven't heard anything yet!! When I DO hear something, however, you guys will be the first to know!
And if you want Bley in Scrabulous, you GOT Bley in Scrabulous! Friend request sent!!
jubjub, (05:21 PM)
Man, that had to have been one of the funniest shows ever. Conan's voice went into a creepy falsetto when talking to Willaim, but it's all good. I can't believe that a light fell... those men are quite a dangerous combination.
I will miss Conan... Simply the thought that he will be in California alarms me. And if you guys didn't have the 'No Admittance Under 16' rule, I wouldn't have to follow him there just to see his show.
Sushi
************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: They are quite a dangerous combo indeed... TO THOSE ALLERGIC TO HILARIOUS LAUGHTER. Seriously though, I love Shatner! That guy is one of a kind!!!
well, if you do come out to LA, you have to have a Tonight Show Insider blog. And Drag CHILL here too!! oh, and bring all of the Max Weinberg 7 (even though i know Max is a Jersey boy) and bring Joel and ALL of the regular performers and The Masterbating Bear and The Guy with Bulletproof Legs and the Cactus Chef playing We Didn't Start the Fire on Flute and Pierre Bernard and The Interrupter and Eyeballs O'Shaughnessy and Snake Plissken...oh yeah...he already came to LA.
PEACE OUT!!
***************************************************************************
Aaron Responds: HAHAHAHA. I'll see what I can do (aka what I'm allowed to do). However, I HAVE been working out, so I feel like I could do a lot of dragging, if need be!
And Snake came to LA, but he ESCAPED, dude. It's called "ESCAPE from LA", not "Breaks in and decides to settle down in LA"
