Hey guys, I just wanna say good work with KITT interacting with Maddie it was a good lighter side to a tense situation, I think this was a really good episode but I'm sure other people will argue with that but I hope the show does this well and better from now on.

Not really your average bank robbery since Mike and KITT are involved! I enjoyed KITT roaming around the city on his own without a driver. The opening scene with the gunfire was pretty dynamic and crazy. Cool pictures and good job!

-Has Mike confirmed that he and Sarah are dating? Sweet!
-Loved Billy's reaction to Maddie.

Now that's more like it. Finally, this episode had so much more right with it than anything that was wrong. As someone who has really been critical of the writing and production style of the show thus far, it's really important that I say I was really happy with this episode.

I've griped a lot about that emotional link to the original series having been missing, and there are still a lot of subtle things I'd do differently, but those are becoming more artistic than anything. This episode was SO MUCH closer to the target.

It wasn't a particularly expensive or flashy episode: light 2D effects, four or five shooting locations, no over-the-top transformations. These limitations were really turned into a strength, because they gave an opportunity for the story to develop at what I found to be a more comfortable pace. Most exciting to me was that KI3T was on his own in this episode in a way that even KI2T rarely was in the original series.

What I liked:
* KITT on his own.
* KITT and Maddie (and not cheesy! That's tough to pull off!)
* Billy's reaction to Maddie.
* Little to no CGI with KITT made him so much more real to me.
* FLAG having to make do without unlimited government resources. (Makes KITT that much more important)
* KITT's tongue-in-cheek response to his busting through a parking lot fence. (Nice to see KITT crashing through stuff)

What I disliked:
* Music is still missing a real KR feel. There are so many queues to draw from and adapt to this style.
* That old-KR swagger.

I hope NBC gives at least 6 to 13 episode order for a second season, because if this episode is any indication, a modern realization of "Knight Rider" is finally here.

Right, so, it's Hat's Essay Time again! I went back and looked at some older blog posts, which I don't often do, and I guess I need to put my name at the top of these posts and a disclaimer right underneath my name. (Also, I re-watched last week's episode and I still can't see Torres being yoinked out by the grappling hook. I believe everybody who corrected me, but I can't spot the moment where it happened for myself.)

You do not have to agree with me, and if you don't want to read constructive criticism of the show, then feel TOTALLY free to scroll on past me to the next comment. I will be here every week doing the same thing. My handle and my email are at the bottom of every single one of these posts, and I do post in the NBC KR forums periodically, but I only very rarely check this blog after I've posted to it. If anybody wants to contest a point I've made, please feel free to contact me personally. I like to have my thinking challenged and I don't mind defending my ideas and opinions.

And here's something that just bugs me, really, but is not a disclaimer or in any way related to this week's episode.

Why do people keep saying "If you don't like the show, don't watch it"? That is not going to help it get a second season. Someone who watches and hates it STILL WATCHES it and their numbers still count! If you want a second season, don't say "Don't like it, don't watch it!" Say, "Yeah, this week's episode had some problems, but I'm sure next week's will be better."

Okay, but I actually came here to write a review, and it's totally time to do that now. Especially since I'm a day late!

Couple of things about the 'new' SSC, since apparently the SSC is a room and not an organization; first of all, two mechanical engineers and a tall guy and they haven't turned the lights back on yet? It's REALLY dark in there. I DO like how we didn't quite have all the gadgetry we've had in the past; that made a lot of sense considering there are only four people to man everything now, despite Sarah's vast and sudden fortune.

However, I absolutely love that stupid couch.

Sleeping pods? No, why bother with the silly Star Trek-lookin' sleeping pods? We'll just haul a big ol' thrift store couch in here for naptime! My love for that couch is sudden, deep, and pure. (Just buy some lamps to go with it!)

And banter! There was banter! There was witty banter between Mike and Kitt and Kitt got to DO THINGS and Kitt got to THINK and he out-thought the humans periodically and YES. Okay? YES. This is what you do with Kitt. Doesn't matter if it's Ki2t or Ki3t. Thank you, thank you, thank you for using the car this week.

It's also about time we had one of those 'sometimes cases just happen' cases, honestly. Way to write a kid realistically, too! She came off as a young person, not as a toothache shaped like a little girl. I liked her very much, and Mike and Kitt both surprised me with how good with her they were.

Didn't so much like that nobody thought to ask Maddie what her FATHER did, but I could reason my way out of that one-- Kitt didn't think of it because it's not necessarily the kind of thing he'd think of, and the Back At The Ranch crowd didn't think of it because they're all overtired. It was still kind of a "You GUYS she has TWO parents come ON!" moment for me.

Now, was Mike identifying Sarah as his girlfriend a convenience, or are they together again? Because one night of drunken sex does not a relationship make (or re-make), even if you DO love the person, and she's now his boss which makes things even more complicated, and just because I don't like the relationship doesn't mean that my points don't stand. He still needs to get his head together (there's no way that just having Karr, Torres, and Charles dead has magically fixed all of Mike's problems) and she? She can still do better.

On the other hand, "You're just going to hit me again if I tell you the truth" and the subsequent laughing through the hit? That was awesome.

It was nice to see Mike take a few hits this week, too-- to NOT be unbeatable right from the start. He was outmatched and the situation had to change before he was able to take control again.

I call shenanigans, however, on the Babe of the Week telling the mob boss lawyer "You better stop worrying about your drug lord clients and start worrying about your own life." What exactly does she think said clients will DO to him when they find out what he did to THEM to save his own skin? She's never watched an episode of Law and Order or CSI or a Quentin Tarentino film? That's honestly my biggest complaint, that line right there, because what did she expect the drug lords were going to do? Pat the lawyer on the head and say "That's okay, these things happen, it's only money." Actually, maybe they would have said that. Right before a linebacker in a six thousand dollar suit shot him in the back of the head and they close the scene with, "But it's MY money."

Also, you didn't exactly have a plot hole, because I saw how it could work, but a bunch of people I've talked to didn't-- if there are tunnels under the bank but not ACCESSIBLE through the bank, that's what you need to say, not that there are no tunnels under the bank. Ditto if there are no PLANNED tunnels under the bank but the thieves dug one. Let us know they dug it out, because otherwise it kinda looks like that tunnel appeared by magic.

I know I promised not to ding you on the science, I know you're not using science but Science! of the sort they use in comic books, where it works because Reed Richards says it works and doesn't need to be repeatable or viable in any other setting. However. The acid circle on the floor, I have to say something. First of all, any acid strong enough to eat through MARBLE in seconds is not going to be safe to store in a plastic bottle. Second, architecture does not work that way. You do not lay your marble tile down on top of the dirt, and anybody with HGTV knows THAT much. Third, and this is the important one, but third? They debunked the whole 'cut a circle through a floor in mere seconds as an escape route' thing in Mythbusters. MYTHBUSTERS, guys. TV viewers already know that this can't be done with machine-gun bullets and plywood, so why would we buy it with an unnamed acid-- one so mild you can safely store in a plastic bottle and it won't even corrode a metal safe-deposit box-- poured over marble?

I only argue that point because I would have bought it lock, stock, and barrel if you'd just used a laser, instead.

No Attack Mode! No Kitt transforming whatsoever! That really helped things a LOT, I think-- more grounded, more real. Knight Rider, after all, is an action-adventure show with a dose of science fiction, not a science fiction show with a dose of action-adventure.

The stuff that made me go "YAY!" pretty much balanced out the stuff that made me go "YOU GUYS," though, and although I've been told you burgled another movie plot point, I haven't seen The Dark Knight so I couldn't tell you what that plot point was. (I did, however, tell the person who told me that you'd borrowed a plot point again that hey, at least The Dark Knight is a mighty step up from The Da Vinci Code.)

The biggest thing, the most important thing, science and architecture and "smart people acting stupid (but maybe they're just tired)" issues aside, is that this episode felt like Knight Rider. I'll give that its own line so it stands out.

It didn't feel like Team Knight Rider or a Transformers fanfic or a bad CSI knockoff, it felt like Knight Rider. And while okay, we could've done the whole thing back at the SSC with just one of our tech-heads talking to Kitt instead of all of them taking turns, it still felt RIGHT. I never had to look at it and say, "They could totally do this episode without the talking car," the plot stayed solid, the car was a character, Mike was more than just That Guy Who Hits Things, and if it had a few problems it WORKED overall. You still need to tighten up your writing, but the breaks from reality were MOSTLy acceptable ones and there were no Abs of the Week and Zoe DOES own a pair of long pants and there were normal people in trouble and you GUYS!

I feel like we FINALLY finished the twelve-hour pilot movie where the characters are sketched in and a few key people die to drive the plot forward and the shadowy government organization rises and falls and now we can move on to the REAL show!

Pretty good episode. Now things look to be going to the right way. Now you can name this season as 5th. Hope to see DH and KI2T to complete my happiness...

My only complaint: the ending. WTF!!! The bad chick falls down the hill, mike looks kind of worried, and bam!! quick cut to the final scene with maddie and her family... why the hell sarah, zoe and billy are there? that's beyond me... and then the end, the episode is over... it was over so quicky that I got confused and had to watch that part again later.

Hey Guys I just wanted to first say that the show is great. I hope to see more. I do have some ideas for you that might boost ratings. With the FLAG back into commission and the original mission of wilton Knight now revisitied, you have a rare opportunity to mak KR a truely fantastic show. What would you guys say to having KITT and Mike fly to Ramstien Airforce Base where they have to pick up an undercover Delta force person who is infultrating AlQuida. They have to drive to Itally, far south, Say Sicily and pick up a package containg information, bomb making material and a weapon. The information cpntains plans to detonate a nuclear dirty bomb in NYC. They take the Package to the drop off point where they plan to secure the package but there is adouble agent that is waiting for them. The double makes off with the goods and a dirty bomb is built. KITT and Mike are too late to deactivate the Bomb. The peson who gets the package become mike nemisis and there is a long series to hunt down and find this double agent. Since the agent was successful in detenating the bomb, there is obviously a massive recovery, but Mike nearly becomes obsessed in finding the agent which leads to a world wide man-hunt. This is of course just a simple idea and obviously the implications are endless. But now, without the constraint of the federal Govt. in the show, you are to make it MI/007/alias as you want to. I feel confident that by taking this course and not just sticking with the original KR story line, The new KR will have a long run.

While its always good to share ideas, I personally think that is not a good idea frank. People don't want more of the same shows, they want something different. KR is different, it's a classic, if they try to change it into something completely different like you suggest the ratings will plummet and the show will be cancelled. The reason the ratings are starting to pick up is because they are starting to make it more and more like TOS. Your idea was pretty cool, but not right for KR, for one thing, KITT and Mike never fail, they're Knight Rider! lol.

That's just my opinion.
