Knight Rider

I WANNA ROCK AND ROLL ALL KNIGHT

Super Bee meets FBI van

Hey Knight Rider fans!

This week's episode explores the dualistic nature of our world. How perception directs our understanding of right and wrong. A meditation on pairs, if you will. Mike & Sarah, Billy & Zoe, Nikki & Max, Rachel & Teresa...

Wait, who are Rachel and Teresa?

That would be us, the writers of this episode. And truth be told, our primary meditation was on sexy criminals running around in a hot car. We loved creating Nikki & Max as a reflection of our heroes Mike & Sarah. Both drive hot cars, but Nikki & Max are expressive and reckless while Mike & Sarah are measured and bottled up. They teeter on the edge but never drop off.

Billy & Zoe, on the other hand, go 'round and 'round. They gossip about Mike & Sarah, but are they really talking about themselves? When are they going to play a little "how's your father?"

The dance was enjoyable for all involved and hopefully will be for you too.

So what didn't you see in this episode? Here are a few tidbits for y'all:

  • We loved the 1970 Dodge Superbee, but the episode was originally written to feature a 1967 Black Panther Camaro, a car that turned out to be so priceless that we couldn't even fake it. There are only two left in existence! Now that would have been hot.

  • Speaking of hot, the day we shot the roadside showdown between Mike and Nikki & Max, it was 105 degrees here in Southern California. Add the reflection off the asphalt and a total lack of breeze and it was about 130 degrees. And then we had to stick Sydney in the trunk of a car. What a trooper.

  • Our director needed additional background actors for the Anderson Valve scene, so we threw on lab coats and stepped in. Can you spot us? As the camera pans to Mike and Sarah, watch for Rachel delivering a wrench in the foreground. We had fun getting a taste of what background actors do every day. Kudos to all of our Knight Rider background for their hard work!

  • Finally, we would not have an episode to blog about without the tremendous collaboration of all the writers, crew, and cast. A special shout out to our guest cast Kelly Kruger & Brandon Quinn for bringing Nikki & Max to life with such sexy badness.

So that's all, folks. $20 bucks says you'll enjoy this episode...

I want my 20 bucks! Just kidding. Loved it, but I hope that wasn't a REAL super bee y'all crashed!!!

Tonights show was great. It's content had stuff to please fans of old and new

i hate it when shows crash and kill such beautiful cars. i'd rather they just give them to me instead of obliterating them!!! :(

[EDITOR'S NOTE: Don't worry! The actual car that was crashed was just a mock-up of a Super Bee!]

So much of “I Wanna Rock and Roll All Knight” focused on sexual tension, that it overpowered the entire script. For a show that airs at 8 pm, I was blown away at the extreme focus on foreplay during the entire episode, especially the cold open. While we all know big changes are ahead for this series, this episode just proves how badly of a revamp the series needs. I won’t dwell on how useless all of these extraneous characters were in this episode. But the pace was TERRIBLE. There was so much non-value-added dialogue—it seemed like the episode was more about who was going to have sex than catching criminals.

I want REAL car chases, with REAL special effects. I want KITT to crash through buildings and to see actual stunt work from stuntmen. I want to see Michael and KITT solve a case together for once. I don’t want to see Big Brother watching over everything the hero does and says.

And most importantly, I don’t want a soap opera inside of a $50 million supercar. I’m sick of it.

I’m so very close to giving up on this show. There’s so much potential for 1980s Knight Rider in 2008, and it’s just been made into a joke. I know it sucks for me to say this to writers who are working for a living and just trying to do their jobs—but this show is like a rudderless ship. The original series is a perfect model to emulate and build on top of, and instead we get softcore porn with a talking Ford advertisement.

(I WAS glad to see KITT take care of the C4 by driving over it; it was as preposterous as it was in the 1980s, BUT it was just as it was in the 1980s, for once, and for that I’m happy.)

So, who do I write to get my $20?

Lots to like about tonight's episode-- you ladies did a good job handling Billy and Zoe (still not sure I buy the romance, but at least I buy that they're now friends who might want to schtupp-- and that Zoe is including Billy in her game, not playing games AT him), and the two of them clearing popcorn off Kitt's dash was the highlight of the episode for me-- great visual there.

I liked Kitt this week, too-- he lost some of that passion he found last week, but he also wasn't dying. A lot of people are irritated that Kitt can only seem to start doing anything once he's asked to, but I figure that's more about his programming being a little more limited, to avoid him turning out like Karr. Besides, he had a project this week! He wanted to learn about relationships, which is certainly something handy for him to know.

I am delighted that the transformation sequences are starting to be downplayed.

Matter of fact, I really only have two quibbles with this week's episode-- one, it would have been nice to hear that Nikki and Max were radical anarchists, so as not to lump everyone with those political leanings into the same 'let's blow things up for justice!' mold, and two, Sarah.

    Just generally Sarah.

I'm done trying to like her, I really am. She's too perfect, too pat. She's never wrong-- the one time she was wrong, it was because she trusted Mike's judgement instead of her own instincts (about Sean in Journey). She is so clearly meant to be Bonnie-only-better, and with a reason to respond to any advances Mike might make. She has 'the same training as Mike,' despite the fact that while Mike was serving in Special Forces and Black Ops (whether or not he remembers all of it), Sarah was getting her PhD, and she works in the field despite the fact that Charles apparently brought her on as support staff. She handles the nanotechnology, she's apparently a toxicologist, she drives cars like she trained on a stunt track, and you'd never catch her in a frumpy solid-color jumpsuit.

She can do Mike's job. She can do Billy's job. She looks great in a bikini.

On top of the second and third helpings of good qualities, she comes off as selfish, emotionally manipulative, and self-centered. I know she's not supposed to, but the way she reacted to Zoe being sent with Mike in Knight of the Iguana instead of her, the way she used that hot pink minidress to 'remind' Mike to take her to her friend's wedding (and who wears a dress like that to a friend's wedding? It screams "LOOK AT ME!" on a day when everyone's supposed to be looking at the bride), she played Mike like a fiddle in Hunter, repeating that oh, she didn't want anything special for her birthday, no really, all the time she was making a list of things she wanted... She has to be the center of attention. Just won't give it up.

And tonight, her hesitation got Mike shot.

I will grant you she was a credit to Deanna Russo's acting skills-- I could clearly see her thought process on her face when she had that clear shot at Max that she didn't take-- 'I don't want to shoot anybody! Why won't he drop his gun?' And okay, Mike was only shot in the shoulder, but imagine if the buckshot had grazed his neck, instead. Okay, so dropping Max like a bad habit would have ended the episode early, but that moment just crystalized Sarah for me.

And that's aside from the dance she and Mike are engaged in-- I'm losing girl points by admitting this, but I wish all the romance on this show would disappear. It's not what I'm tuning in for and there are SO many better things the time could be spent on, like Mike and Kitt's relationship. You know, the actual cornerstone of the show, the thing that's making the old school fans go 'but it's not right!'

Overall a very nice episode, once again you got all eight cast members doing something without any of them feeling redundant, I have nothing but praise for that, for most of the episode. It was a really good, solid episode with a lot of old-school feel and some more of those tantalizing hints about Mike's past and the nature of the SSC...

But I am so done even trying to like Sarah. She hasn't struck the right note with me since the pilot, really. This episode was just the last straw.

Loved tonights show, you guys are awesome, but i agree with melissa, i hope that wasn't a real superbee that you crashed! Also in my opinion, i love Sarah, she's freakin gorgeous! One thing though, hope you can develope the relationship betweem Mike and Kitt more because this show should really be about a guy and his car.

I have to agree about Sarah. While she's not bad looking, her personality is very off putting and there is nothing about her character that makes me want her to stay on the show. In direct contrast to this, Billy and Zoe are excellent and are actually people you would want to hang out with.

I enjoyed the show- save for one aspect. Could we downplay the sexual innuendos a tad? It's getting to the point that I begin to cringe, especially considering it's only an 8 pm show and my little brother is still up to watch it, if you catch my drift. There's nothing wrong with a little romance but I'd appreciate it if it were placed further on the backburner instead of directly in the forefront of the plot. It's still completely possible to play on juxtapositions of characters (just as you said you wanted to in this episode) without nudging absolutely nudging towards intercourse.

Still, enjoyable episode. Keep up the good work.

Thought the show was great; it had a lot of humor and tons of sexual tension....but is it really what we want out of the show? The relationship between Michael and Sarah is obvious, but the "will they or won't they" aspect may just kill the show entirely and I don't think that anyone wants that to happen! The fact that you are incorporating all of the characters is also a plus, but it feels kinda forced. I think there are two to three too many characters and even though I've come to like them all, some are just not really needed and aren't missed when they are not in the show. I have read that some on here want more action and stunts and solo interaction between KITT and Michael which I would like to see also, but the light bits of humor and sexual innuendo are not totally unwanted. I know I must sound like a broken record at this point but I feel I must say this yet again. For all those that are die-hard Knight Rider fans.....this is NOT the '80s Knight Rider and can't just follow that criteria anymore. As the show progresses, we are beginning to see what they are actually trying to do with the characters and the story line. They want to incorporate more help and comraderie for Michael and KITT which was missing in the original series and toward the end, started to add. Eventually, we will find out how this whole thing started and what happened to everyone from FLAG. But now, please try to see this for what it is; it's not just about one man and a machine anymore and I think that's what everyone is missing and not really getting behind. I believe that the old premise will make it's way back, since we do have writers from the original series involved as well as those that really want to honor the original the best way they can. Some of the things that were done in the original didn't make any reasonable sense; just like in this one and should be taken with as much salt as the previous stunts(take the explosive under the car thing). That did bring back a bit of nostalgia! LOL
Romance in a show like this can be a double edged sword; it'll either work or kill it and it all depends on how it's introduced and played out. You have a group of reasonably young, good-looking people that work closely together and two of them happen to have had a history. If you go with the whole "Michael Long" thing; he left everything behind to be totally absorbed in the role of Michael Knight and didn't try too hard to get out of that box. Michael Traceur has had his share of crap and was forced to relinquish his identity for national security (boy, this is one mystery that has me hanging on the edge of my seat!) He can't remember a certain period of time and little hints draw him closer to the truth of things (nice). Having a relationship was not in the cards for either one of them, but the potential is always there. It's an area that needs to be played carefully for the sake of the show.
And finally........PLEASE STOP ALL THE GREEN SCREEN SCENES!!!! I know it doesn't cost that much more to actually have stuntmen and actual driving (although with the state of things....trashable cars may be hard to come by!) The car stunts from the original series were believavble and missed; could they possibly show up again?
    Maybe...
A little something else to keep in mind.

I think this show is absolutely the best, except for a few places where it sounds like my mom's soap operas. Just work on not putting too much romance in there and don't show too much intercourse. Don't make it too mushy. Otherwise, very very fun to watch and discuss with friends later. Always add the comedy in KITT that I love so much!

I disagree with everyone regarding Sarah. People need to remember this is a continuation of the original not the original. This is Mike Traceur NOT Mike Long. Just because the Hoff did everything alone doesn't mean the new Michael Knight has to. Do you do everything today the way your parents did it 20 years ago? I don't think so. I think it is important to make some changes to differentiate this show from the original, just stop letting her drive. If they are going to do everything exactly the same as the original show we should all go buy the box sets and watch the re-runs, there is no need for a new show. As long as it is primarily about the relationship between Michael and KITT it is still KR

Then there's the issue of audience appeal. Sarah is beautiful no one can deny that, and she will attract a lot of new male viewers. The romance on the show is going to attract a lot of new female viewers (stereotypical but true, my wife can't wait to see each new episode). And the innuendos are done in a fun and joking manner not crude or disgusting, which should appeal to people who like comedies. As for your little brother, as obvious as they may seem I believe they are still vague enough that if he gets them he's not hearing about anything he hasn't already learned about.

Finally it also lends realism to this unrealistic show. You have a bunch of 20-something year olds, who are attractive, face danger everyday and get to work with a super hot multimillion dollar car. Hormones are going to be soaring and for there to be no sparks between any of them would be even more unrealistic than a talking transforming car.

I think the writers are doing a great job of meshing old with new (with the possible exception of KARR/KARRE but we’ll cross that bridge when the story’s been told) and making a very entertaining show for old fans as well as welcoming new ones. I for one am going to sit back relax and enjoy the ride.

    Keep up the fantastic work.

This show is awesome, would even love to be on it. Loved the 8- series and the now series even more. Great show.

AND AS A FATHER WHO GREW UP WITH THE OLD SHOW...

    I AM LOVIN' IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    KITT ATTACK MODE!

What was the song played at the end of the "rock and roll" episode? Who cut it?

the song at the end was Reason to Love (or something like that) by Meiko

that was a great episode. i loved it and was even able to look past all the sexual jokes, which I don't usually do. I love how KITT is learning and sometimes not the best thing because that is what is happening with our kids today, they learn and it isn't always the best thing for them to learn, but it is nessesary in today's society.
in the end they said they dorpped Nicki's charges... how in the world are they going to keep her from finding someone else to do stupid sotuff with?

Good episode! I liked the parallelism between Max/Nikki and Mike/Sarah. The suspense of the release of the files kept me on my toes until the last few minutes of the mission. Great opening few scenes with the popcorn in the car and Mike and Sarah on the mats. Definitely on board with the Mike/Sarah pairing. Billy and Zoe had me laughing the entire hour. KITT was humorous with his blunt statements. Thanks Rachel and Teresa for the update and tidbits of the filming of this episode!

That episode was freakin' great! But,I really think that Mike and Sarah should just get together already. Everyone knows that in a season or two that she's going to be pregnant with Mike's child. We all know it.

I love this show but I'm asking only two things
1)STOP JUMPING AROUND!!! , one week you mention KARR and the next week it's like it never happened it's getting hard to follow the story because theres 3 parts to each show, the relationship part, the story, and 3 seconds of hints about Mikes past I'm starting to get confused and so are other people.
    2) Update the Knight Research page you mentioned that you were going to last week and the only diffrence is the video thing in Alex Torres profile, and there are missing controls/ no new password needed like you also said last week.

I'm a fanatic of knight rider since a was a kid, but right now it seems like whoever is writing these episodes they are trying to destroy whatever potential this show could have. The show takes us from one story to the next and when the show gets my attention like last week show it goes and kills my attention this week. i think we need better writers to take this show in a different and better direction.

I have to say I agree (and I've said it before on an earlier ep, the green screen bit is not working for me. It still makes me wonder how back in the 80s they could manage real driving while doing what is essentially dialog to move the story along or filler while they get from A to B. Has Cali's roads changed so much that this is no longer possible to do?

Though I must say other then that I'm likeing the evolution of KITT and the show in general. Each week strides are made. I really hope however that now that we're well into the season we'll get a Kitt-centric episode. You gotta admit he's why most of us are here - Kitt. LOL I loved the throw the explosives under/at/in KITT nod. And! the "they wanna take kitt to get away".

I'd love to see a nod to the "Someone tries to steal KITT repeatedly" gag well used in the original. Sure it's silly but I loved them. (Though the kitt letting himself be stolen in the original series pilot, I think it was, was just brilliant. ))

Please know that we fans are watching! I hope NBC takes into account those of us that watch via NBC.Com or Hulu.com.

Even tho that is not a real superbee, I own a real one, I was still upset that you felt the need to crash it!!!! I agree with others, the gushy sara is anoying. I too want to see KITT do some more fun stuff like maybe do some jumping himself :) Like the show

Second half was great - but drop the cute stuff and treating the audience like idiots.

Still waiting to find out what SSC stands fr.

So I haven't had any ra nts about the show so far.....and this episode was awesome!!! However.....I watch the show online, since i don't have cable television (weird, I know) And I have friends who watch it with me...about 3 each episode usually.......but this time (online) there were Viagra commercials, not a big deal, except for the fact that the commercial wouldn't shut up even when the show restarted!!!! It just kept talking and talking and talking and talking, I was so annoyed!!!! Aaaah!

Well guys, we have to hand it to you, it seems everyone actually loved this episode!

When can I take some leave from the military and come help you guys on the show with my car?! haha....i so wish!

I don't see a problem with sarah being on the show....I like her....and I'm ...not...uh...into...uh girls. Anyway....I do think we should eliminate some of the barrier that is between Sarah and Mike and focus a lil more on Mike and KITT.....and don't forget about putting KRONOS in the show soooon

Why am I still commenting....No one is even awake....well...hmm...AWESOME EPISODE!!!! Ok, I'm done....for now muahahahahaha...

As a general fan of the old Knight Rider, I enjoy some of the old school hints and references in the new series. I missed the movie and first few episodes, but after catching just the latter part of the fourth episode, I have been a huge fan, and went back and watched the previous episodes. I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one who feels that this is NOT meant to be the old Knight Rider. I find it to be entertaining , and I DO like Sarah, and her relationship with Mike. I have faith in the writers that they will continue to explore the characters, including KITT. The show has more depth with the characters around Mike, and I don't want to see that change!

I thought this show was great. I think Sarah is fine, just the way she is. I wish they would put a kid in the episode, or something of that sort.

    KITTANDBILLYLUVER

    KITTANDBILLYLUVER

Either let Mike and Sarah hook up, or move the hell on..This is getting really old really fast, and it's going to start driving the fans away.

Don't forget to ADD Random KITT interactions with thin. gs and people in the show, like how the Old KITT talked to and protected a stray dog, or how the old KITT showed a kid skipping class why school was important, need stuff like that when Michael isn't around KITT

Ahhhh….so if there is no legal problems with having a Dodge or a Camero on the show, the there should not be any problems with having a certain 80’s Trans Am, or T-Top if you will, on the show either. Hmmmm.

    ^^^^as a guest star.

A lot of people have mixed feelings about Sarah. And some of it may have something to do with her "look". As i watched this episode again, i noticed that Sarah has a good bit of mascara on her eyelashes. This could actually be giving her that "devious" look to us subconsciously. Much like in the Adams Family Movies they shadowed everything around the wife's eyes to give her that mysterious evil look about her.

I liked the general idea for the storyline, but the complete brainless behavior of the charactors is not something I can deal with. I also had a problem with the lack of reality dealing with On two occasions the highly visible superbee makes an escape and though they can't be more than 20 miles away, kitt can't detect or follow them? He does in the end and even can tell if the woman in the trunk is alive. The other problem is that the moral angle on this episode was completely off the wall when you end it with a message like "well the spoiled little rich girl terrorist got off the hook, but at least we got our funding so I guess it's alright" is a bad message to be sending to your viewers.

I have to agree with Mercury Max. Sarah's eye makeup is attractive in a bad way---he's right, she looks like she's up to no good. Too much sex in this show. There's a difference between undertones of sexual tension and just all out "Why don't we just get it on in the back of KITT right now?" It's too much.

I'd pay $20 just to have this episode (ok so it was $2.99) on iTunes. You guys are doing a fantastic job. Excellent character development, good story. I'm sorry there is so many negative comments. I love the show and everyone in it. I will continue to buy episodes on iTunes in effort to show my support. Please let me know if I can do anything else.

If everyone loves the show so well then explain : a) the dismal ratings and b) the reboot of the reboot. There is no getting around the fact the fan base for KR is not watching. Seriously, are there any actual adults involved in the production of this show? Anyone over 30?

Has anyone on the writing staff ever heard of Disney's Plausible Impossibility Theory? Do you even care what it is and why it matters?

There were so many things wrong with this episode it is hard to know where to begin, but chief among the complaints are how the perps were still alive after pointing weapons at what are - ostensibly - law enforcement trained agents. Senator's daughter or no, you point a weapon at a cop (or FBI agent, or what-not) and you are dead. That's the training, and that is what cops do. You point a weapon at them, they kill you no matter who or what you are.

My gripe with all the shows so far is that I simply can't suspend disbelief for more than five minutes at a shot, because something happens which shatters that suspension. Always. I believe a man can fly because Superman didn't do something so horribly contrary to what is real that disbelief was shattered. That's as much a testament to Chris Reeve's acting as the special effect work.

I am not saying it's easy, because if it was everyone would be doing it. What I am saying is it is what the writing staff of KR *MUST* do, or this show is dead.

    Good luck.

if knight industries were real i would like to join the company!!!
