Thank You and Goodnight

Tim: The fans have been SO amazing this year, and we owe everything to all of you out there. We hope you'll stay with us for many years here, as we take these characters on incredible adventures.

Hayden: Yes, it's going to be an adventure and I can't wait for next season!

Tim: Yes, stay tuned for next season and check out the DVD release at the end of August...there's so much more to explore even before the season begins in September.

Characters that changed the most from their original conception

Tim: The character that went through the most change for me was Jack Coleman's character - Claire's father. Because if you paid close attention to the pilot, he only had about 8 lines of dialog. While I always imagined he'd have a presence on the show, I never imaged the big role he had and a lot of that is because of the chemistry between him and Claire. And in many ways, the most central relationship of the entire season was that between Claire and her father.

Hayden: You know, I think that in the beginning she was a normal girl dealing with normal things who wanted to date the quarterback and just fit in. I think it was a fabulous idea to make her a cheerleader cause it made her relatable to people - it reminded people of normal adolescent behavior.

And she discovers this thing she has and she looks at it as the worst thing in the world. To a teenager, it was completely dramatic, but over the course of the season she's evolved into a young woman with a beautiful naiveté who is still a young girl but who has come into her own, who has learned to embrace who she is and the ability that she's been given.

Tim: She literally became a hero. She went through the hero's journey: from reluctant and unwilling to someone who is willing to make the ultimate sacrifices. So in some ways, she's the most heroic character on the show.

Hayden on MySpace?

Hayden: There is an official MySpace page...I think it's Hayden Music. There is ONE and if you go on it, it actually has videos where I say hi to my fans and give them updates. It's a Hollywood Records site...anyone else who says they're me is lying. Seriously.

May 21, 08:03 PM

Will anyone from the show be at Comic-Con

Tim: Yes. Everybody we can bring will come that day.

Hayden: How will we get there? The hot bus with no air conditioning from last year?

Tim: The train I took is really the way to go.

Hayden: You mean everyone was stuck on a bus and you took the train?

Tim: I guess it did work out that way.

But in all seriousness, the thing about Comic-Con is that it was very instrumental in launching the show, so this year is a big thank you to them when we come back. We'll have a big event with lots of things to hand out.

Favorite Episodes

Tim: It's funny...because so many of this show's episodes are connected together, they start to blur in my mind a bit. I have favorite moments and scenes along the way that just stick with me. Claire jumping from the towers in the pilot, then seeing it through Zach's eyes later. Nathan flying for the first time. Future-Hiro coming to Peter on the subway for the first time. Those things are amazing scenes that I think really struck a chord with the audience.

Hayden: I loved diving out the window, minus Adrien completely freaking me out! I had a breakaway window, so if you touched it or blew on it, it would fall over. And I had to do it in the heels! I had to jump on an apple box and dive...I'm like so ready to go and good with it...we get on set and Adrian is really freaked out. He goes to me "BE CAREFUL!" If you saw the way he looked at you, you woulda freaked. I was like "dude, I totally got this!" And I'm like "OMG I Have this under control!" Finally I just did it and I got it on the first one, and he was like "YEAH THAT WAS SO AWESOME!" If you knew him, you'd know it was hilarious.

Tim: It's amazing to have someone like Hayden to do these stunts. If you pay close attention to these scenes, you'll notice we have Hayden actually going through the window, instead of a stunt woman. It just made it so much more real for the audience that watches things in slow motion and does screen captures...it's really her! It's very cool! She loves to try her stunt scenes and the cool thing about Hayden is she doesn't mind looking bad and getting dirty...with the blood and dirty in her hair. She loves it! And we have dragged her through the ringers!

Hayden: I make my stunt double's life a living hell! There are some things they refuse to let me do, so I like to make him feel bad when he gets to do what I want to do. I'm so lazy...but I grew up playing a lot of sports. And now that I'm on the show and not in school, I'm no longer on the team...so any chance I get to do physical things, I'm totally all over it. I was a gymnast for a long time, i swam, I played softball and volleyball. That's how I stay fit...I would have large muscles even if I never worked out. I'm not built like a long lean beautiful girl who looked fabulous in her clothes...I'm the smallest, shortest person you'll ever meet. I'm built for sports! Not necessary for clothes, but sports!

I need to meet Jessica so she can show me how to be pretty and kick some ass!!

May 21, 07:56 PM

Fun to film the final scene all together?

Hayden: We kind of shot it separately. Some people did their shots while others did theirs. We don't work together that often in one scene, but we're all on the set and see each other often enough so it's not strange seeing each other. And we love hanging out together.

Tim: I think there was at one time, about 3am, I looked over and Milo was there and I said, "what are you doing here? You don't have to be here." And he said, "Everyone else is here and I wanted to see them." So it's true, they rarely ever got together on screen and felt they had to be there, even just to hang out.

Hayden: We love hanging out together. We're the goofiest group of people. Why are we on a drama? They're the funniest people and you question why we're on a drama.

Tim: Jack and Greg are fall down funny.

Relationships and Chemistry

Tim: It's amazing that a cast with this many people has so many amazing combinations of characters taht click with one another. I really mean that...usually when you cast a big show like this, there are limitations built in with people who don't connect with one another. A fun thing with this show is that we can explore all this odd combinations of characters with people who cross paths with one another. When we realize that Hiro (not future-Hiro) and Peter have a scene together for the first time in the entire season! The truth is, there's an amazing amount of combinations that work terrificly with one another.

In episode 20, in the future, we saw some REALLY interesting pairings that we haven't yet been able to explore and we saw some tremendous chemistry there.

Hayden: I think every single person has their own...like we have our own little relationships with each other. I'm the little sister and Adrian's the big brother who takes me under his wings. The relationships between the boys is so much different than the relationships the boys have with the girls. It's like their just goofy little boys. between Milo, Adrian...all of them...they get together and like talk about CLOTHES. and I'm like dude, are you guys kidding me right now? I've never met a group of guys who are girlier than I am! They're SO into fashion. it's the funniest thing. One of them had a pink shirt and he was like "it's not pink, it's ROSE!" It's the funniest combination of people and everyone is so different and so fabulous.

May 21, 07:53 PM

Will Claire and Peter find out they're not related...?

Hayden: I keep getting these questions, Tim. Someone keeps asking when Peter and Claire are going to get together.

Tim: I will just say this. I want all those fans out there who want this to happen to keep one thing in mind. Claire is 17 years old and Peter is somewhere... let's say in his mid 20s, maybe late 20s. .And so I want everyone to bare that in mind and think about that.

Hayden: You're crushing peoples' dreams.

Tim: But Claire may be 18. Who knows? Maybe we'll find out that when she was handed over by Hiro's father that she was older.

Hayden: What's creepier? The fact that he's mid 20s and I'm 17, or that he's my uncle?

Tim: Both.

Hayden: We'll have to do some crazy dream sequence.

Tim: That's right. Maybe there's a dream sequence.

May 21, 07:52 PM

Music on the Show

Tim: Wendy and Lisa, of Prince and the Revolution fame, do all of our music. From the very beginning, I wanted to make sure the music had a global feel to it cause the themes of the show dealt with people from around the world and I wanted it to have a spiritual quality to it. We ended up using a lot of Middle Eastern instruments mixed with all sorts of acoustic instruments - and some electronic.

The signature sound that people hear is actually the human voice. It's a guy by the name of Shankar who is an Indian singer. He does these incredible kind of riffs and that has become a signature sound for the show.

May 21, 07:51 PM

On Our Ipods

Tim: I'm very eclectic lately myself...Neil Young Live and some French techno pop. I'm all over the place too.

Hayden:I am so all over the place with my music. Dixie chicks to Beyonce to like Alison Kraus and Nickelback...I'm ALL over the place. Eminem, even though I'd never try to rap.

May 21, 07:47 PM

Hayden's Album

Hayden: Hopefully, it's coming out in August. I worked on it for two or three years. My voice changed a bit over that time and my taste in music is totally different.

May 21, 07:45 PM

Candace - Juggling School and Show

Tim: I don't know if you all know this, but I presented Hayden with a diploma at the wrap party!!

Hayden: Juggling has definitelyhad its moments. I know that not only did I feel it, but everyone on set felt it. Everyone was just trying to deal with my comings and goings and how long I could work on set. Let's just say I'm happy to report that I will be with them a LOT next season...a lot more hours now that I can. But yeah, the juggling was hard. 20 minutes here, 20 minutes there...dividing my emotional energy between the set and school work. It as really tricky and I'm glad that part is over.

But I was so nervous getting my diploma from Tim and then I had to sing...I was so nervous! I couldn't even grasp it all, I couldn't even thank everyone because of the gravity of the moment. I was totally caught off guard!

May 21, 07:41 PM

Listening to Fan Opinions

Tim: The truth is, we try not to spend a lot of time worrying about the fan input because we are often very far ahead in terms of where are stories are from where the fans are watching the show - often 10 weeks ahead. So often, when they're responding to something, we've already moved past that or answered their questions, which makes it hard to engage in a dialog cause we're in a different place.

But what we try and do is listen to the general trends of what fans are saying about the show so we can gauge if we're connecting with them. But in terms of specifics of the show, we don't really try to gleam too much from peoples' suggestions on the boards.

May 21, 07:41 PM

Seeing more of Claire in school

Tim: Claire is still probably a junior in high school by this time and I think we would be doing that character a great disservice if we weren't paying attention to her education.

Hayden: I had some experience being a cheerleader. Back in the sixth grade... could have been before that, actually...

Tim: It all gets pretty hazy back then...

Hayden: I think I went to one game and for Halloween I went as a dead cheerleader, which was foresight about what my future would hold.

May 21, 07:40 PM

For Becky - Changing the World?

Tim: It was certainly the intention of the show to have the message that ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they come together and work together. The message that inside of everyone, no matter how ordinary you are, is this potential waiting to come out.

Hayden: I think in a lot of interviews they ask these things, and I always say that this show has been a fabulous metaphor for people in just seeing the human stories and each person's ability being a metaphor for something int heir own life that they're dealing with. It can really impact people and give them some insight to help them out a bit.

I love to hear that I can be a role model...but do you know who is more of a role model than me? Claire! She's a great role model for girls and even guys, dare I say... In the beginning of the season she as so naive and just wanted to be a normal teenager and was very insecure and didn't know a whole lot about herself, but over the whole season she's evolved into a really bright young woman who stands on her own and who still has this beautiful innocence about her but is figuring out who she really is and use it to her advantage. For a lot of people, she's a better role model than I am.

May 21, 07:37 PM

For Anthony - Hayden's Favorite Ability?

Hayden: I say that if it was for me personally in real life, I would love to have Hiro's ability to teleport. The naps I would take, the places I would go...it would be fabulous.

But in the show, I would have Jessica's. I'm tired of being kicked around and beaten down...I need a little super strength. A little kick-ass pow!

May 21, 07:37 PM

Heroes World Tour

Hayden: It hasn't been set in stone, but we'll be going in groups of four in late summer in different parts of the world. I want to be in the fun group!

May 21, 07:34 PM

Why can't Peter use the ice/time powers?

Tim: There is nothing to suggest that he won't.

May 21, 07:34 PM

Hana

Tim: We did witness a potential future where she died in episode 20, but no she has not died in the present storytelling of Heroes. So I would look for her to make a return.

May 21, 07:34 PM

Does Angela have a power?

I think that if you are studying the show closely you have seen that people who have powers have offspring that has power, so one can draw that conclusion.

May 21, 07:32 PM

Christopher Eccleston

We love Christopher Eccleston and we are really hoping that he'll return to the show next season. It's purely a matter of his availability as an actor, but we're very much interested in that.

May 21, 07:31 PM

Will there be less gaps between shows?

Tim: Interesting that someone brings this up, cause that was our thinking as well. One of the things that Heroes does... as you notice Volume 2 started the end of tonight's episode, but by no means does Volume 2 have to be the entire length of Season 2. In fact, don't expect it to. It will end sometime in the middle of the season, wrapping up a story with it that will allow us to launch into a new storyline.

Carrying a long storyline over the course of one season can get very cumbersome and complicated for the writers and audience, so breaking it into smaller storylines will allow new viewers to join without feeling like they've missed too much story.

May 21, 07:28 PM

Crossing Jordan vs Heroes

Tim: The two shows are totally different species. So each episode was a stand-alone episode that allowed you to break stories in different ways. So a writer could come in with a great idea and write that idea. We don't have that luxury on Heroes since each story is so connected to the episode before it on Heroes. Which means that every story can effect the next story. Which also means you have to be much more diligent about story lines since one thread can unravel a whole run of episodes. So in that way, it's a much more difficult kind of story breaking to do on a show like Heroes.

In terms of production, Crossing Jordan had a standing set of the morgue where we were able to shoot 5 or 6 days out of each 8 day episode. On Heroes we don't have very many standing sets, which means we're on location a lot of the time or building sets. Which means it logistically much more difficult.

Which one is more satisfying? Both are tremendously satisfying...having a show on the air in this extremely competitive industry is incredibly satisfying.

May 21, 07:24 PM

What is Uluru? What about the symbol?

Tim: For those paying close attention, the first time we saw this image was in the pilot on the cover of the 9th Wonders book that Micah was reading and that character lives in the world of 9th Wonders. When and how we will deal with who that character is has yet to be decided in the writer's room.

Also, the symbol has already had a couple of explanations. It continue to unfold. One of the explanations was that it was the joining of two Japanese symbols, the one for Godsend and the one for Great Powers. If you're paying attention to the last 30 seconds of tonight's episode, you will see that that symbol showed up again in a very unique way, so the beginning of next season we will explore the ancient origin of that symbol.

May 21, 07:19 PM

What's next for Volume 2

Tim: That's a very big question, but as you can see the title of Volume 2 is "Generations," which means we are going to deal with the idea of the multiple generations of these people who have discovered their powers. Clearly, Hiro has landed himself in a very unique situation and expect the first part of next season to find him there dealing with new adventures.

And the fate of several of our characters is in the balance and you'll just have to stay tuned to discover what the ultimate outcome is.

May 21, 07:17 PM

Heroes Origins

Tim: The idea was to try to do about half a dozen episodes that are stand-alone episodes dealing with the origin stories of characters all around the world who are waking up with the discovery of these unique abilities. They are not connected necessarily to the show Heroes, but if you do watch or are a fan of Heroes, you'll see tiny little clues that tie into the show.

The intention was to do almost a Rod Sterling type of story telling. Cautionary tales and morality tales. Dealing with these people with unique abilities. So they're completely stand-alone episodes that don't follow a serialized formula.

Some of the stories in Origins can be similar to characters currently on Heroes and one of the people on Origins may be involved on Heroes, eventually...
