We are a TV show that has to air an episode every week on a television budget and we cannot compete with the $200 million features you see at the summer time in the movie theaters, so this show will rely much more on storytelling and character development then it ever will on special effects. I think the balance was about right in the first episode.

Be patient everyone! We'll start to learn more as the episodes roll along. Geez, it would be hella boring if we found out everything in one damn season. I like the fact that I dont know and am somewhat confused. It makes me keep watching as the story goes deeper. What would the point be to know everything? And its a show to ENTERTAIN not meant to be intellectually stimulating. It beats watching all those dumb and boring reality shows. Keep up thr great work!!!

This has to be one of the greatest shows on t.v. It stimulates the mind while also entertaining in a wide variety of ways. I hate to see these senseless comments posted by people who hardly understand simple math, let alone the complex plot of this wonderful show. Save the cheerleader, Save the world was an ingenuis tagline, for it not only left us wondering what it meant, but it also became a universal way for fans to recognize one another. I've seen people walk past one another and one would say, "Save the cheerleader," and the other would finish it ready ro acknowledge their love of a wonderful show. Do not judge this show too quickly. It is different from all others and it is this difference which shall allow Heroes to be around, hopefully, 5 years from now. So I thank the creator, directors, writers, actors, and everyone involved for making a show that is truly entertaining. Monday is now my favorite day out of the week. Please keep up the good work and do not get to caught up in the success of Heroes, but keep the show how it is....... perfect

Watching this program is like speaking to someone who can’t make their point. Watching this program is like speaking to someone that likes to hear them selves talk.
I thought I would give the show a shot; watch for an episode or two. I think NBC should put old Bob Ross “How to Paint,” in Heroes place, it would be more exciting and makes a point each and every episode.

The role of Sylar was originally credited to Sean Bean, an outstanding actor (mostly known for for his work on the LOTR series). Now, IMDp has given this credit to Zachary Quinto in time for a recent cameo shot on the latest episode. Does anyone know what happened with the Sean Bean switch?

I was very interested in this show but am now, just plain confused. I can't keep up with the show and am still struggling with the actual main plot - what the heck is the plot? It seems to be that there are people with special powers to save the world but no one knows what that will be - as there is nothing telling them why they need to save the world. After reading posts, seems that what its about but as I stated, I'm just freakin' confused. Gore, flipping around characters, more characters introduced, nothing remains enough to truly figure it out. I love sci-fi but this just confuses me.

My friend and I, (and I am sure many others), tuned in last night to see what the show meant by "save the cheerleader, save the world" well, the cheerleader got saved but what about the rest? and I thought it was all going to be explained. I probably will try to continue to watch in hopes of it all being pulled together, but I really think you lost my friend. bye the way, we are not young kids either. and I have read sci fi since I could read my father's books by the time I was 10.. and I am a whole lot older than that now.. and still read sci fi. I thought this would be a great show but please, deliver what you are promising. thank you.

You've got to be kidding. Save the cheerleader, save the world is brilliant! Tell me what other show could possibly get away with that tag line and be such an awesome show. It's brilliance is that this is a comic book translated to television. "Save the cheerleader, Save the World" could only come from a comic.

Enough of NIkki. I can't take her horrible acting. Lets focus more on other characters and also enough with the CHEESEY "save the cheerleader save the world". We get it just don;t force feed it on us.

First off, Tim, this show is AMAZING and outstanding. We need more shows like this on national tv. Seriously.

Please keep up the element of time travel in this thing because when Hiro popped up speakin english and much aged...and a samurai sword...to me this was the HUGE shocker. I literally jumped back in my seat.

I hope this helps when you're talking about moving away from special effecst (due to budge) and focusing on character evolution.

Don't listen to comments on supposid "too much gore," the show is what it is and its AWESOME! oh and also, just because the topic is on Heroes, that doesn't mean its targeted at kids, that they like it is another thing. anyways... i wish i could fly. =)

i think the show is great i really dont know much about graphic novels but i think its no where near Xmen its more believable than anything its more realistic to whereyou dont know if human evolution has completely stopped.im an aspiring cartoonist..if you have any advice in how to get a graphic novel greatly appreciate it.like your artwork and sorty it keeps audience hanging.i know WB had a show sort of Xmen like im sure whenever you have to add special effects i think you can minimalize the powers as far as lazers and fire and etc and flying im sure is done by green screen anyway.i hope it stays on for awhile. tv on NBC is finally interested and as an artist who probably struggled im happy you finally getting your spotlight

There is a real living artist named Eele that can paint the future before it happens. I saw him at Hunter College. There is an article on him in the New York Daily News August 5, 2004, and The Hunter College Newspaper May 11, 2005. When I saw him at Hunter College, he predicted Katrina and Rita. He also told us about a bus blowing up at Times Square because of terrorism. This is who Tim Kring copied his story from. Eele is African American and not on drugs. The artist is Hispanic and on drugs.

Yes, show is too graphic. Won't watch if this keeps up. This show is not for children as it stands now and they are the ones who would really want to watch it since they love X-Men.

Hayden Panettiere is doing a great job of playing Claire. I love the show and I never miss it, if I think I am going to miss it I program it in my TiVo. I love the show

Great, great show. It’s too bad I’ll have to ban my kid from watching it. It’s bad enough that my generation grew up digging for African American heroes. They were far and few and the pickins’ just got slimmer. Hell, the networks don’t even market to African Americans they’ve spent years brainwashing us into accepting being invisible. So tonight
I’m gonna read a bit then, begin sketching a comic book and name it after my hero, my kid. Thanks for the inspiration.

We loved the first show, but, the graphic violence of the second show has made us rethink watching. Why is this necessary? Your show has such a great premise, even with a serial killer, great charecters and many ways to go. I was shocked at was shown on the second show and I had to tell my son that he could not longer watch the show. I want to watch it tonight so I can keep up with the great story, but, on the otherhand I don't want to look at violence that I saw last week.

First I'd like to say I think this show has a lot of potential. It's innovative, and quite intriguing. The only problem I've found so far is the gore that seems to be thrown in for shock value. I am looking forward to character driven stories, but such stories will be lost if this element of graphic violence continues in every episode, It will also preclude families from watching. I am excited about where you can go with this, please don't frighten people away just for the sake of CSI type ratings.

too much HORROR not Heroes, you lost us as viewers

this show has no business being on at 8:00 P.M. The gore is horrible. We wonder why this country has mass murders and then show scenes like a mother impaled on a staircase and a father with his head sliced off. Please reconsider these types of violence

Awesome show!!! Great writing and cast. I like the edgy flare with the hot cast and effects. The effects aren't so much that take attention away from the story line. It works for me. I'm trying to decide what's my favorite character. I like how Claire can break into pieces and regenerate herself. Trying to figure out what Nikki's special powers are. And Hiro's just fun.

honestly - lose the graphic friday the 13th crap!! it's way too gruesome and unnecessary. Why ruin a perfectly good show by showing everything? Heads blown up and cut off, some lady gruesomely murdered with daggers on a staircase, bloody bodies in the back of a trunk???? seriously...can we focus on character development and plot here?

this could be a great show and there's so much potential and i appreciate the way the story is unfolding, but can just achieve the "dark" side of the show by making it a little less literal? Hitchcock achieves the same thing with sound and the viewers imagination...PLEASE CONSIDER this feedback...

Loved the first two episodes. I like how everything is kept suttle. I don't really mind with the gory parts but I guess since it's a "super hero" type series, a younger audience will want to watch it. Regardless, keep up the good work.

I like the concept of this show, but was turned off by the gore. Way to much. I switched channels in the middle of the second episode because of it. My wife and I just could not stomach it any more. Hiro's part was the best, and he did not need gore to manage it.

Good story and compelling charactors, but distressingly and pointlessly violent and gory. I've removed this from my TIVO and while I recommended this to friends based on the first episode.. the second changed my mind. Sadly.

This show has an intricate story line, interesting characters and enough suspense to keep you "hooked". Unfortunately it also has a lot of gratuitous graphic violence, which is totally unnecessary. It is possible to have murders in the story line without showing a lot of blood and gore. If this graphic gore continues, I will stop watching - no matter how interesting the show is.

Hi Tim, I hope you remember me, I started the frist season with Crossing Jordan and was with you for 3 years. I was the secretary at the front desk in the morgue. I knew Jordan was going to be a big hit and now you have another hit on your hands. The show kept my interest from start to finish and looking forward to the rest of the season. This is what NBC needed and you were right there to give it to them. Keep up the good work and keep those shows coming....

I have seen the first show twice and decided that it is the one show I will make an effort to record if my schedule conflicts so that I can't watch it. The premise is very interesting and I hope you can keep the same level of quality you had in the first episode. I am definitely a fan already. I have a feeling word of mouth will propell this series' momentum.

Good writing is more important than FX. Many explosions and no plot means nothing. But a great story keeps living.

Liked the show and thought it was great! I hope though that if it lasts, and I hope it does, that plots will have resolutions. Where there is at a certain time a set end point this all leads to. Then if there is another season, a new story can develop. I hate shows like this where you have a big story, but thinks never seem to reach a conclusion and as an audience member it then seems all unfulfilled and incomplete. But great job!

well most of you like to watch tv 24/7 and love superhero comics and shows and such, but the real thing about this is people don't really believe things such as a guy that can actually move the clock speed like the asian guy did. Which we know as telekenesis. I have been practicing and learning this kind of mystery about the human brain and what you can do and I am getting better at it! So people you should be inspired about this awesome show and think about what you can do and not be negative about it. Think as thou you are a child again and what you want to do. I just thought about typing this because I really like the show and to make people think!!

I was glued to the tele last night! I found my new Monday night fav show!

Great show a good mix of x-men and the movie unbreakable, I was looking forward to seeing
this debut and it did not disappoint. My only problem and this may seem very geeky is to when
Hiro talked about x-men and the issue 143 with Kitty Pryde talking about time travel it was
actually issues 141 & 142 and it was called the Days of Future Past. Comic book fans will look
it up so any other references to comic books in the future make sure it is the right one. Looking
forward to the upcoming season.

WHOW i have been looking forward to this show for over a month now... I think it's FANTASTIC. Mostly becuase before the initial unvailing of the show, I created an RP (Role Play) mostly based on evolution... only portraid with element-like powers. It's a really good show so far, I _am_ totally hooked, BUT... there needs to be a LOT more special effects. I mean, don't get me wrong; the pilot was definitely done well, but relying on camera angles to 'create' special effect-like cinematography is really bad directing. I'm sorry, but my best friend is a film student, and I know he could put this show together a LOT more believably and more visually stimulating than this.

Still, I like the show, and will continue to watch.

I think that your show would do very well to get Makenzie Astin on it, at least as a guest star. He's my ALL-TIME favorite actor, yet I never see enough of him on the screen and he would be OUTSTANDING on your show, I know it!! Unique, Gripping, Very well done. I auditioned for the CHANDRA's role.after watching the show I felt missedout. mainly because I am not a professional actor but an ordinary man!!

People are really desperate. They really are, to watch anything that has to do with Superheroes. Man, I was worred that Smallvile might get cancelled over this show. Man, I am sooo not worried anymore. Poor writing, perhaps poor directing. Character development ? What character development! There was no character development. It was an Indian Professor Xavier finding his 'mutants'

Watch Smallville, this has all been done, and done a lot better with more taste. Please stop. This is horrible. It just shows that we need to have better writers, and that people want to see more of the Super Hero Genre. Do not worry everyone, when I finish my book, I will use the poor writing of this show as a statement when I am on Oprah.

You might ask what is so bad ? Well to start when the girl healed herself in the kitchen....her healing powers clean her skin too? When her ribs were sticking out, she had to push them in, yet her mangled fingers did it themselves? If it was so hot in the train cab, what the heck does that have to do with healing or regeneration ?

Another question that I had was that why would the man run out of his cab when all of his liscense information is right there in the Cab? How would that help? Sadly, I taped the show maybe for fun I will go back and check it all again.

In the words of Monley Crue, Heroes...please do not go away mad, just go away.

You have set the stage for a potentially wonderful show. Your careful character development and not so "flashy" premier episode is a welcome change to the "flash in the pan" shows. Why did you edit the episode the way that you did?

The first cut aired at comic-con was much more involved and really got you going especially with the terrorist connection to the train crash and the nuclear radiating man.

It was much more entrapping and got us really connected with the suspense.

Also if i remember right the artist hand cut himself to the pole when he went cold turkey and cut his hand off. Why was this edited it made it much more realistic because it showed how important it really was to him to take the drugs and paint the pictures.

The edit was ok but all the people i told to watch the show were really disapointed because it was "slower" then expected especially with the omission of the terriorist connections.

Its absolutely amazing with what you guys have created here today. You are bringing super heroes back to life and personally make me fell like a kid again. I think this show is just what we need in our lives today. Excellent job.

I Love it and the characters are so diverse its crazy! ones this and that. The whole concept of this series was great I next can't for the next episode

This hits home. All of us wish or had wished for some kind of "superhero" power. This let's us all relate to how this would be in the real world. I loved it. Using the "hall of justice" (the artist) to bring them all together to fight against worldly issues is great. Ready for episode #2! Great job Tim!

Is there going to be an hispanic heroe,it seems as if there's going to be a heroe for every race, for evolution.

I loved the way the first episode was set up. The ending was amazing. What I'm particularly curious about is what side effects the heroes will have: Niki's seems to be the most horrific, so far, but I'm eagar to see what Hiro's powers' side effects are, besides ending up in a foreign country illegally.

Oh, and about Hiro? I LOVE HIM. He is such an adorable guy and it's great to see an otaku in the main cast. I'm glad you'll be depending on characterization and plot to drive this series, and not just special effects, because it will give the series more substance.

Keeping it subtle? How is having a single mom being an internet stripper and being only in a thong "subtle"? Why does TV have to resort to the lowest common denominator anymore? C'mon! This is a great concept show, and the first network show I've been excited about for a long time. But I'm sorry - I don't think "subtle" includes pornography. If you are really doing good writing, why the titillation? If you've got a creative show, why be so blatant? Label me a prude, but I truly believe that creativity lets the partaker to use their imagination - not to show it all. Disappointing.

Have you conferred with psychics and the like to affect the depth of characters? Natural "healers"? Just curious, I know folks like that. You characters are great!

Tim Kring did a good job with this although the fact that really surprised me was that he included "manefestation of subconciousness" as a main character....

I think too many movies rely on special effects. This show has everything I needed to keep me wanting more.

Just don't do a dumb twist & have them all just be in a comic book & all this not really happening. Like some sort of lucid dreaming, or scientology all in the mind thing.

In a posting I did on my blog on Sept 15, there was a cast picture in which half the cast is looking one way and the other half the other way. I'm wondering if this has something to do with the shape of things to come?

Ok but do you think for the season finale you might pull out the stops a bit for a final battle or whatever?

Still you have to show their powers a few times through out the show, I mean the show is called Heroes. the powers are the show, so if all they do is talk in the show, it will be like CSI..boring. So keep up with the powers of them all.Great show...cant wait to see it next week

Remember that there are many million $ budgets movies each summer. The onces that are successful and accepted by the General public of all ages are the onces with good scripts and character building.

I don't see why everyone is so obsessed with the X-Men angle. Just because they referenced evolution? The dude who said that was a geneticist lets not forget. I'm guessing he had some hand maybe in creating the Hero's?

That said, I really enjoyed the storytelling.

I agree that you've struck a great balance. You've definitely gotten me hooked with the story and I'm eager to see more. Sure hope this show has a long run!

Charater development and storytelling is the way to go othewise it's just about the superpowers. Can't say it enough how much I loved this first episode. Glad to see the focus are on the right things.

I think you did fine with what your resources and budget. The cheerleader expresses the most in all the charaters as far as "special effects" you can really get a sense that she is battling within. I LOVE IT!

It's great to see that people still think nowadays, with all the advances in technology making people lazy and uninterested in the real world (even though i am talking about a show based on super heroes), but I need to ask if you have anyone on staff that actually has knowledge or a background in science (or science fiction) as to the effects of the space-time continuim, accounts of people w/ esp or anything like this?

Will these characters approach heroism along the lines of The Fantastic Four i.e. embracing publicity or more the conventional route i.e. secretive & potentially vigalante-ish.

The character developement is fantastic! It's amazing how much depth you all (writers, actor, producers etc) were able to give the characters with such (seemingly) little effort.

I thought the special effects were fine, id rather see character development than lots of flashy cgi. Of course some of the stuf will seem comic'ish its a story about heros, some of these people need to get a grip, and they even gave a nod to the x-men, hiro quoted the comic for @%#@$$

Great storytelling can create its own action with the imagination. I felt the show was great, and my mind was racing with imagery.

Yes, please keep things subtle. I would really hate to see it go over the top with the spec. effects. Even keeping the demonstration of the super powers to a minimum has a profound effect.

That's what drives the show, if no-one cares about the characters it doesn't matter how impressive their powers are so that's the right way to go.

The storyline is intriguing enough where the special effects are not a major factor. Just icing on the cake!!

I think you're doing the right thing by keeping the effects to minimum. Effects should only be an aid to the story and not the focus of it, nor should they be so much that it removes all aspects of the story telling.

i agree, it was done quite wonderfully... on a seperate note i do have to admit i was a bit surprised at some of the gore involved with the mob killings.. but i don't mind it myself.

I think your plan is the best idea for a TV show like this. The story-telling and character development is the most important part.

Do you plan on their powers becoming stronger as the show progresses? I'm very interested in Claire's "Wolverine" like healing factor.

Yes the show had my heart beating quite fast at the end...I was in that wow factor...keep it up.

Why didn't you make Claire invulnerable to damage? I hate all the gory crap. Or make her eventully ivulnerable to damage.

Thats cool, not alot of shows focus on characters and go straight for the special effects. Come to think of it so do alot of movies. It just kills the mood. With heroes so far I've seen some beautiful character development.

Many people don't realize it's the advertisements (commercials) that majorly finance TV shows. You can only cram so much information into a one hour show, given the time slot and the advertisers, we got a taste of all the main characters and I think it was a great effort!

I agree. You don't need CGI to get the message across that Nathan can fly. Hiro's teleports were not any less impressive just because there wasn't a blinding whirlwind of color and shape. Claire's regeneration was demonstrated in a couple of icky ways, but I don't think you'll need a movie budget to keep up with this stuff. Good balance, good work.

Considering the flurry of questions, I think you achieved exactly what every show wishes they had. A fanbase hungry for next weeks episode moments after this week's episode ends. Keep it up! ;)
