Assembling Our Incredible Cast

First of all, I wanted to go for a cast that you hadn’t seen a lot of on TV before because I wanted it to look like ordinary people as much as possible so that you couldn’t say “hey, that’s the guy from that TV show I liked.“ I felt it was important as if you were watching real people having these experiences and not TV stars.

We were fortunate that the script attracted lots of attention and we were able to have our first choice of almost every single cast member; we didn’t have to settle for less than what we wanted. So we got all sorts of people you weren’t used to seeing on television, people like Ali Larter and Hayden Panettiere. They were attracted by the script so we were able to take advantage of all these actors who weren’t usually attracted by television.

Also, a special big THANKS to you, for believing in the no-name actors/actresses. Will Season two of Heroes be called "Villians".

What gave you the final push to get this show on tv? Was it Lost? the recent comic book movies, all of these?

I personally liked the fact that you mentioned God, & not just evolution & that you leave the viewer with possibilities!

The ending w/ the 2 brothers surprised me! But by the beginning of the show, I thought that Peters brother might end up being a villian. Am I even remotely warm?!

Are you a star trek &/or comic fan? It appears so. What's your fav. comic? I liked the X-Men reference, & the painting of Peter flying reminded me of the 1st Amazing Fantasy issue cover featuring Spider-man. Was Peter on Heroes named after Spidey?

I do want to mention the webcam girl did make for some uncomfortable momemts while watching with the family.

BTW, I once thought of a comic character who's ability was to bring art to life. However, it was not by drawing it. Nice! I also liked the Eclipse painting!

Kudos for using Tim Sale on the online comic & is Bryne working on Heroes online at all related to John Bryne who worked on Uncanny X-Men?

Retract my last comment after some careful thought. Too bad this series is all about money and ratings. See it bringing out the nut cases and the disfunctional. Just what society needs more problems and people thinking that they have an ability and then do something stupid. Way to go NBC AAA+++ on the new series. You will have people trying to jump off building thinking they can fly or walk through fire.

remember hearing that the premiere was cut into two parts put I never heard the reason why, because I would've loved to be sitting on my couch for the next hour.

Looked forward to tonights event and missed the premier. Sorry, But I had a wonderfull visit with my four year old daughter. I've read up on the websight and your show excited me to TV, which I do not make time for. I will find a way to follow your efforts in the future.

I loved the show!!! I dont normally set up a time to watch TV. This was one I had to watch. I like how the show keeps people thinking. I liked it when the cheerleaders hand went in the garabage desposal and went right back to normal.

When the guy was gonna jump off the building, I was like"OH, he's gonna fly, like on everyother show like this." Then his brother flies!!! I never saw that coming. Great job!!! You are the kind of person that makes a young person like me want to have a job like that, I love how you make the audience care about each character.

Man the japanese guy the brothers and the Proffessor parts were my favorite. Not because the other parts were bad (I loved seeing the mom kill those two guys) but because the Japanese guy was just so cool. He acted just as I would. Let alone he totally has the best power. The reason the brothers captivated me is because I like the type of drama surronding them. Aside from all that I have always wanted to fly. But if I had to choose between Hiro and them I would totally pick Hiro's power. I haves always thought that would be sweet. I just want to say that you did an awesome job picking Hiro's actor out.

I want to say that tonights pilot episode was great it brought alot of character development for the shown and to be shown cast in the weeks to come but i have two questions...
being that you assembled a good cast looking ahead in the future if NBC said they want to pick up for second season or maybe at season finale would you have more than the 9 characters portrayed in the series meaning will there be additonal chacters helping them later?

second question, where did you get this inspiration for this show being that in today's society there are questions about unique ablities in the world and many comics (ex. Rising stars) shows proof a bit where did your ideas come from?

How much of the series is completed and how far will it go? I think it could go far so long as it doesn't follow X-Men or Mutant X too much. How can someone audition for the show?

I'm glad you were able to make the casting decisions you did, new faces with solid talent. It was easy to suspend my disbelief and buy into their characters since I didn't have any baggage memories of their prior work to get in the way.

I was wonderng what went into choosing the powers for the heroes. Was it something pre-determined, from a laundry list of different talents? Or was it something tailored for what each Hero would need as you build the show towards its climax?

Finding the extraordinary in those that society has overlooked, those that never made the team, never made the grade, never got the girl, etc is an interesting premise but not exactly orginal.

As I saw earlier there were several references made to X-Men and the show itself makes reference to the comic book world.

But the thing I found interesting, was the premise that everything was and would be connected. As though fate itself conspired for these unremarkable individuals to rise to some unknown call during a time when the eclipse of order was being played out in the skies above their heads.

Puzzles, within puzzles and each piece must come together for the picture to be whole.

So the real question, for me atleast becomes if their powers will come at the price of their freewill or if the line between fate and the will of men will be tested?

The show was amazing. i loved every minute of it. it's about time someone made a show about human evo. I have always felt we are all connected. amazing stuff. very powerful Tim. way to go!

I know "amazing" is an all-too comic-book adjective, but if the show stays at this level, it likely will be the most amazing super-hero program ever televised.

This is what we have always wanted, this is why we read comics and watch science-fiction shows. We want the world to be amazing, rather than the mundane place it usually is.

Great events. Great dangers. Apparently ordinary people touched by destiny to be something more. Great deeds performed by miracle-workers dressed in spandex.

I'm Hooked!!! I never watch primetime television (not a fan of the "it's a hugely popluar show so lets all be a fan mentality" i.e. Lost) but I made it a point to tune in for this (because I'm a huge fan of comics and cartoons of the past e.g. X-men FF Batman, etc )and I'm so glad I did this looks really promising and can wait for next week. Just please DON'T SCREW IT UP!!!!

I'm not an avid television viewer and most shows only peak my interest for a few episodes however, I was simply blown away by Heros.

I love the cast and especially love the choice of Hiro using Japanese dialog well in Japan. I love the powers and how they come into being not your a-typical power awakening.

I can hardly believe im saying I cannot wait for mondays !

Can't wait to see how the powers develop and what new ones will arise.

Very Interesting. The weird thing is relating to the storyline on a personal level. They say TV is fantasy, but some over exagerrated plots are based on Truth-the Unseen. I can relate to these 'special' people. Thanks for opening the door to introduce the possibilities to those that wouldn't really understand this phenomenon.

I loved the cast- great look to the ensamble as attractive but everyday individuals. Even the supporting guest stars. I am a huge fan of Dierdre Quinn's, and I would love to see her incorporated into the story as a regular. She is a great actress.

M. Night Shamalan's Unbreakable

I loved the ordinary people idea for the ensemble of the show. I saw most of the premiere on NBC.com. I lived in Los Angeles for a couple of years and earned my SAG and AFTRA cards. The passion I feel for acting has never left and this show is definitely the style that I would have loved to be in. Great job and I'm going to watch it again tomorrow night!

Tim, as a Black male and a 30 year collector of comics, I am again turned off by the industrys lack of Black characters or moreso 'Black couples' in comics. Already, the lone Black female is in love with the super-White male in what appears to be a love triangle. I have often created conversation about this topic on HeroRealm.com and other boards and I am curious about how you feel about the subject. Please give me a better reply than being 'multi-cultureal' or 'colorblind', Tim. I do repsect the effort, but I am displeased overall due ONLY to this issue.

It's looks like I've got a new favorite show on NBC now. This is definitely part of my weekly ritual now.

It left me wanting more, and not a lot of television shows do that these days.

did not like the sub titles. had to get my glasses to read them to my wife and they went by too fast. bummer!! get rid of the sub titles and you should have a good show. otherwise, have fun with the next week.

Phenominal show! For the first time in a long time someone has captured the essense of the struggle, the excitement and the fear of a gaining a power. I've been a comicbook fan all my life, and this show FINALLY does it justice! I can't wait for more! I think the casting was excellent, you have such a wide range of talent expressing a full gamut of emotions.

What was your single biggest influence for this show?

Part of what makes a show new are the actors cast to play the parts. With fresh actors, the show can develop the way it needs to, and from the premier, this series can only get better!!

Strong start. Will it really go somewhere? Am I to be sucked into another supernatural trick show that fizzles? I'll need a lot to commit long term.

It seems you have touched upon an underlying current of the human psyche and electrified an audience.

I wasn't sure whether or not I would like "Heroes" because I don't usually like science-fiction... However, after watching tonight's episode I am so intrigued by its concept, and I can't wait to watch it again!! Initially, I wanted to check it out because I was a Milo Ventimiglia fan when he was on Gilmore Girls... I love his character again, but I also like Suresh a lot... I get a "Lost" feeling from the show, but that is a good thing because "Lost" is one of my favorite shows of all time! Congrats on the show and I can't wait to tune in next week! I hope the rest of the country discovers this show too!

Loved the show. It was a very good beginning. I am looking forward to seeing how it all developes.

The image of the city going up in what looks to be a nuclear blast was frightening. It does set a goal for our new found heroes though.

My only gripe has nothing to do with the showw. but is about this site. It keeps updating on it's own and makes it hard to read everyones comments.

I hope you have much better luck than all the other shows I've liked like "FireFly", 'American Gothic' and many others.

I'm interested in the storyboarding. How do you see future seasons going? Will the goal of each season be to preent one catastrophic event, using twenty-some episodes for character development and plot unearthing while the cast use theeir super human abilities to prevent every day mishaps? I get a "Lost" feeling from the show, but that is a good thing because "Lost" is one of my favorite shows of all time! Congrats on the show and I can't wait to tune in next week! did not like the sub titles. had to get my glasses to read them to my wife and they went by too fast. bummer!! get rid of the sub titles and you should have a good show. otherwise, have fun with the next week.

Loved your show. The acting was good. They captured the flavor of imagination/adventure and fun. Life is meant to be lived. Stories that take you away from the every day are rare on tv. With the superhero hits that have been topping the box office the past few years this is definately destined to be hailed as one of the all time best shows on TV. I agree that the hour seems kind of short for this type of show, 2hrs seems to fit with the amount of characters at your fingertips, you've already snagged me as one to purchase every season on DVD! Where do I preorder? Keep up the amazing work, look forward to the twists in the future.

From the internet bashing it was taking for being an "X-Men" clone to those that felt after the debacles that were "Greatest American Hero" and "The Flash" that the super-hero genre was dead, I want to thank Tim Kring for making an eminently watchable show that captured me from frame # 1.

Good show. I'll watch again next week. However, too much like X-Men. Every character has a tie into a comic book character that's already been done. . . unless it's supposed to go that way? Only one I can't figure out is the girl who sees herself in the mirror . . .

I love the idea for the ordinary people for a realistic yet very intense show. I lived in Los Angeles for a couple years and earned my SAG and AFTRA cards, I always dreamed of a show like the one I saw tonight. It was so incredible. Kudos on an excellent job!!!

I think that's one of the reasons I really got immersed in the show, because I mean we are all ordinary people, and it's cool to think that who knows, that might happen to us. :)

What an incredible new series! We don't have cable in our residence so I got my husband to go out and buy an antenna JUST so we could watch the new series. It was amazing and we cannot wait to see more!!

The cast was wonderful, some cast members I have never heard of, and some I have. Very interesting selection indeed, some powers fit others more than others but it was all good. I can't wait to see more characters show up and unfold their powers as well.

Milo is VERY good looking. His character seems like a good guy- the way he deals with his mom and brother and other people. It's funny to watch him be all nice when his character was the bad boy on Gilmore Girls. Still, he's gorgeous!!!

I liked the humor balanced with the serious moments.

The cast was part of what attracted me to the show, but it was really the storyline for me that pulled me in. Such a unique take on an idea that's been developed in so many different ways. I love it!

Keep up the pace. That is the number one thing I liked about Heroes; unlike most of the other new series, this one moved along at a good fast pace. I hate when you can sum up an entire episode in one or two sentences. It would take me over 20 minutes just to sum up tonights episode of Heroes! Good thing I can just tell me friends to watch the encore tomorrow night if they missed tonight!

this cast is so believable.I think you have achieved your goal. Not unlike what they did with the show Lost.

And a hot cast it is, too!

1. does mohinder have a power and is he genesis?
2. I hope you guys keep the narrative cuz some shows lose that and I've always liked it
3. love the geek references

Hi Tim! I loved the show! What did you do before you created Heroes? What advice can you give someone who has a fantastic idea like you did on how to go about creating their own show?

When is the graphic novel coming out? I tried to click on it but it said "Coming Soon." Also, Can Peter fly? Can he only fly when his brother is there? Will his brother shun his powers? Are they all adopted, or just Claire?

i love the concept of the story i just wish it was longer then an hour

This was a very good show. You should have done the begining a little bit different. you should have shown how their powers came about and also tolds us what their powers were. For example i am lost to as what kind of powers Nikki has. Please lets us know.

Incredible. Absolutely incredible. My favorite personally is Hiro. He captured my attention in the previews and trailers, and to know you found someone to do that to me (who hasn't sat down to a TV in three years) is very powerful work. You are officially becoming my role model and idol in the media business for the time being. You have fantastic judgement, and you have won yourself a dedicated fan.

I must ask, what brought on the entire idea of Heroes, and were you bothered by peers and others who may of thought your idea was too 'comic book' or 'superhero' material?

I thought the show was great! I hate having to wait a whole week to watch the next show.

I think your cast works very well the script. I loved they way you left the first episode at cliff hanger. Unfortunately I think the previews may have ruined it?

I love the show, but I was wondering why there weren't more African Americans with special powers. To say that a special gene only exists in certain races would create a problem for me when it comes to viewing.

What an incredible new series! We don't have cable in our residence so I got my husband to go out and buy an antenna JUST so we could watch the new series. It was amazing and we cannot wait to see more!!

What inspired you to write this?

The only ones I have heard of are Hayden Panettiere (from various Disney-related things) and Ali Larter, but I think the entire cast is really strong!
