Decision to have Lyla find religion

J: I think that was something that Jason Katims had been talking about. We had a conversation last year during the finale and this was an aspect of the community we thought was interesting to do. And Jason had already started working out the storyline and had been looking into the churches and was exploring that world and thought it would be interesting to have Lyla go through some kind of event. And we felt that it hadn't been done before on network TV.

C: And I think it's a great storyline, too, cause it feels so authentic to the world we've created, and it feels organic to her character. I feels like something that she needed to have happened. To me, it's exciting and I think it turned out really well.

My fear with Lyla's Christianity is more that it's just going to be a passing fancy that she'll quickly drop and become 'normal' again, or that she'll be portrayed as a whacko. I can understand some of the show's treatment of Christians since Christians are often hypocritical sinners but certainly not all are. Hopefully some who take their faith seriously, and stuggle like everyone else, but don't fall into self-righteous hypocrisy, will be portrayed.

First of all I really love how this show has a Christian aspect to it. However i worry sometimes how the writers portray Christianity. Throughout last season they show the football team praying together before games, or the main characters at church, etc but then you incorporate story lines with people sleeping around with each other and drinking etc. I think that by doing that your making Christians seem so hypocritical and portraying them as something theyre not. And now with Lyla becoming serious about her faith? Wasn't she the one who slept with Riggins? I think it unrealistic that she just jump so quickly into christianity..maybe write an episode where she struggles with repentence for her past sins?

I agree with the previous that Lyla's expression of her faith is so stereotypical Hollywood that I cringed everytime she was on the screen. It felt like an out-take from O Brother Where Art Thou! Find a writer who knows some authentic Christian High School kids. Please!!!

The dialogue is what I love most about FNL. But there were two glaring problems with the season kickoff. Lyla is a bright, articulate woman. She would never have embraced a faith without having considered it carefully. Which means she would never pray such an inarticulate prayer, her mom's skinny jeans? Pathetic. It speaks more to the writer's lack of understanding of faith, than Lyla's.
And that scene between Julie and Matt in the store? Totally unrealistic. C'mon people. I've seen divorced couples act more affectionate with each other.
Where's that sharp writing we're used to from FNL??? Crediblity with the viewer. It's crucial.

Talk to me please I have a landry crush on you. ps i am good at math.

how is tim riggins as an actor? is he a cool guy?

Connie, will your husband return as coach? he should.

I think the show has so great issues that make for great openers when talking with teens...

Connie your tears tonight were so beautifully acted! Just goes to show that this show has true talent.

Connie, your beautiful will you marry me?

FNL is my favorite.
I was disappointed at the turn that Landry seems to have taken tonight.
