I do feel a sense of responsibility to be as honest and authentic as possible. I spent half a year at a high school in Austin researching for the film and all of our writers on the show spent substantial amounts of time in Texas with high school students, their families, and coaches in an effort to be as authentic and honest as possible.
The truth is, this is exactly what happens in HS. It's not just some fictitious, "disturbing" idea, it happens.
I have seen it, I have been caught up in the middle of it, and I am still witnessing it. I live in Austin, Texas, (I've probably been to all the locations they have shot at, our school was chosen one time for extras) and am currently attending HS, and I know it's hard for all you parents to swallow, but this isn't some fairy tail and chances are, your kid has or is drinking, smoking, or involved in "sex-related" activities.
If he isn't, he's one of the few and you should be proud.
At least twenty kids if not more, go out to their cars and smoke pot and drink. And there's kids out there every period.
I think this show does a great job of showing what goes on. And I don't think it's being glorified at all, it's just what happens. The new episode is on in two minutes and I do hope FNL doesn't get canceled.
Actually, it was filmed at Pflugerville high School, which is outside of Austin. Really could be a great show if i didn't get motion sickness from watching it with all of the camera shakings.
We watched the show for 2 reasons: high school football and Kyle Chandler. We enjoyed the show; the football game was exciting and intense. This can be a great show - without the alcohol and sex-related scenes. We may not be able to keep watching if these subjects are portrayed the same way throughout the season. We have 2 teenagers, and those scenes were not appropriate for family viewing.
Great show! Really enjoyed it! It's Americana at its best! Real people, real lives, real stories. Kyle Chandler is wonderful in this role! Believable!
We will be watching it again tonight!
I enjoyed your show and I would like to commend you on the realistic and positive experiences of high school athletes that you try to portray in the show. However, I was disturbed at the scene of high school students sitting around drinking alcohol. I'm sure that there are a lot of high school students who will be watching your program and will be influenced by it. It's hard enough in today's society to keep high school students off of drugs and alcohol that we don't need a show to portray drinking alcohol as something that is "cool" and okay to do.
I appreciate your time.
There is nothing like Texas football, it doesn't matter what part of Texas you are from. I went to school and South Texas and it is as intense as West Texas football.
Why didn't you spend time with the Permian Panthers to really get the true essence of West Texas Football. I met you at a Jackalopes game when you were getting ready for the movie and you portrayed West Texas Football well in the movie. Austin (city) kids are not like West Texas kids.
