A Message from Pete Berg

Pete Berg here. Thanks to everyone for your interest in Friday Night Lights. I'm really proud of the show and hope you enjoy tonight's premiere. Even if you're not a fan of the game, the world of Texas high school football provides a fascinating canvas. In our fictional town of Dillon, we've captured a distinct sense of place with an identity that rivals our dynamic cast of characters. Severe, ambitious, heartwrenching and inspiring. I look forward to your thoughts and questions after the show.

The shakey camera work that is so in vogue nowadays makes me want to throw up. Hold the camera still. You can afford tripods, can't you?
Worry more about the scripts and the acting and less about shaking the camera. Is that supposed to be cool? It's incredibly irritating! An overused technique is NOT effective.

Aucuns doutes c'est une bonne page..

could it be it? i was searching for information needed for such a long time. Thank you!

Aucuns doutes c'est une bonne page..

I had the distinct honor and pleasure of working on your show as an actor once last season in a role that ultimately got cut from the Homecoming episode and this season in "Humble Pie." I can't tell you how much fun it was and how the whole experience has stuck with me. The way you shoot the show is a Godsend for actors. We never get that kind of freedom. I just wanted to say thank you for making my year. I loved every minute of it, and I sure hope we get to do it again should my character resurface in the coming episodes. Being Annabel was more fun than I've had in a very long time. Happy 2008! Tisa

Grande sito! Mi piace e lo consiglio ai miei amici;)

God job! Great site, guys

OOOh! Great work done with this site.. My congratulations..!))

I love the show. I was married for 45 years to a guy who grew up playing football in Texas. But the idea that any Texas football coach would have trouble remembering the sainted name of Landry just doesn't cut it.

I heard an interview with Taylor Kitsch on a radio station this morning and the deejay was wondering if FNL was going to be cancelled since it was moved to Friday Nights, and I just recently became a fan because I was bored and watched it on the computer, I'm so hooked, I thibk this show and all the actors are so amazing! It never leaves you bored or thinking "I saw that coming", I have definitely laughed, cried and gotten angry at different things in this show, and think it would be a shame to cancel one of the few shows that stands out from the rest of TV.

I can't wait for season 2! My only wish? That you re-do the final episode of season 1. Waaaay too rushed, and frankly unbelievable.

I am happy to read all this succes: you deserve it completely. Proud to work with you in Boston, next june. Please, take all the good thoughts streaming from my heart to you...

i really enjoyed the show. it teaches people alot. me and my fiancee really got into it. its not all about football which is a plus

Dein Aufstellungsort verdient nur gute Woerter. Danke.

Lavoro eccellente! ..ringraziamenti per le informazioni..realmente lo apprezzo: D

Nice site you have!

mmm.. nice design, I must say..

I didn't like the first few episodes all that much, but now that the characters are becoming more real, I'm liking this show more. I really like the story that's developing about Smash and steroid use. It's definitely a problem in high school football, and I like how you portray the internal conflict he's having concerning the steroids. I'm from the Austin area, from Leander High School to be exact, and it is so much fun to see the uniforms and mascots of the different local teams around here--Leander Lions, Georgetown Eagles, Cedar Park Timberwolves, Westlake Chaps, and of course, the Pflugerville Panthers. One last comment--I think there is too much emphasis on the sexual aspect of these characters. Yeah, it certainly is around high schools, but it's not as central in real life as you're making it on the show. Thanks for a great show overall, though.

I started watching this show by myself, then my fifteen year old son caught interest. Now my wife makes sure to sit down and watch with us. The show has captured the whole family, the last television show to pull that off was American Dreams. I hope NBC will continue to support FNL, good television is a rarity.

This show gets to the guts and glory, pain and emotions of high school football, the families, the school staffs and everyone associated with it. Doesn't matter if it's Texas. You've captured the feelings and emotions that take place in every town. I'm an empty nester now and so miss those Friday nights watching my son play football! Thanks for allowing me to relive those moments. Camera work is fabulous..and, oh yeah, Kyle Chandler?? Be still my heart..he's a keeper, Hollywood.

Thank you NBC for putting this show on the air & PLEASE keep it there. I'm so weary of the Law & Order & CSI - type shows. I want something that'll make me laugh a little, cry a little, or make me get out of my chair & cheer for the team! It brings back those old cherished high school memories. I love the coach - so conflicted. Trying to do what is right & yet trying to keep his job too. It's a battle we all have at times. I grew up in a small town (under 500 people) and although we didn't have football until 3 years ago (our thing was basketball when I was in school), it really does capture the fever of a small town consumed with school sprit. I LOVE IT!!!!!

HAVANA (AP) — Photographs of Fidel Castro standing and talking on the phone were published Sunday in Cuba's state-run media, a day after the ailing leader appeared in a video to dispel rumors he was on his deathbed.

The Communist Youth newspaper Juventud Rebelde dedicated its front page to the Cuban president, printing a blown-up picture of a pensive Castro with the title "Always fighting for something, and fighting with optimism!"

I went to my first Westlake football game this fall, helping with the band. They played Lake Travis HS, which is a big rivalry. The national anthem was sung by none other than Ray Benson and several members of Asleep at the Wheel. I remember thinking, 'only in Texas!' This would be an interesting piece to work into the series, as even the famous folk who live around here come together for the Friday Night Lights.

This is a great show and very accurate - we spent three years in Austin, from '01 - '04 and this IS Texas football. It is the beginning and the end. People plan major life events around whether or not UT has a home game or not. It is only slightly less obsessive at the high school level. Please don't cancel. It's a great show, with great ideas and great themes!!

As I originally predicted, the only reason that I watch this show is Kyle Chandler and my fondness for "Early Edition." It has been a lifetime since I darkened the doors of a public high school, but if this portrial of high school students is accurate, Daine Sawyer needs to be fired for ringing her hands and sighing "Why?" after Colombine. She lacks either the brains, the competency, or the integrity to be a journalist. I will continue to watch and record the episodes, although I may edit them; but if it continues and/or gets any worse, I will begin writing the sponsors.

I love this show. Please don't cancel it!

I coach in Arkansas, and I played on a Texas state championship team, and watched both of my kids' school win championships in Tennessee--in three different sports including football. The amount of alcohol and sex portrayed in the show is way beyond the amount we experienced or saw our teammates involved in. How does a coach allow kids of this moral weakness to continue to play on a "disciplined" team? I would like to reccommend the show on the basis of character development and the role of coaches and players growing with each other. But I would lose my reputation as a moral leader if I were to recommend it to parents OR players.

thank you mr. berg for this unbelievable show. fnl is very realistic unlike most shows on tv. you are a very good director. loved the movie and the show. keep it up

FINALLY! A network that gets it. Friday Night Lights is a breath of fresh air from doctors, lawyers, detectives, and reality TV. Thank you NBC and Mr. Berg for having the guts to stand up and produce quality, entertaining TV that both my high school age son and I can watch together.

I LOVED THE SHOW IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!

I am really glad that NBC brought this kind of television to America. I live in Texas and this show really does keep me on my toes for the entire hour. I am so glad that Texas has FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS! Keep doing what you are doing to keep fans on their toes!

I feel like Gary’s cat (“Everyone’s a critic!â€) and like all those creeps who keep telling Taylor how to do his job, but here goes. Are you trying to portray this coach as a Christian, a heathen, or a hypocrite? We are getting mixed messages. Christian? He goes to church and makes stabs at praying. Heathen? He cares more about his job than about the life of a youth in whom he has invested between 8 and 12 years of his own life: “I’m screwed!†Hypocrite??? Also, Jason’s reaction to his devastating news is very unrealistic. Nobody, Christian, heathen, or hypocrite, falls so far without pain. His hospital room has his girlfriend and no parents? Very wrong message! Some of the dialog is difficult to understand. Some of the scenes are hard to interpret: whom did Taylor observe leaving the stands?

I was wondering when you're going to add Hispanic characters to the show? The story is set in Texas which is predominately Hispanic and I thought I remembered there being a Hispanic football player in the film version.

Love the show

Thank you & GOD Bless You! You did an awesome job... cameras & all! What a breath of fresh air! Keep up the good work. People can be so quick to criticize. I personally want to thank you for praying in JESUS name.

I don't watch much TV. If I watch anything at all it is the news. This is an acception. I thought it was very very good!

Loved, absolutely loved Friday Night Lights! I'm from Texas and you brought back so many vivid memories of days gone by. We'll be watching every night it airs; it's so good, we'd even watch the re-runs! What a storyteller Peter Berg is.
Keep up the good work.

I have a question for Mr. Berg. Were you in a made for TV movie several years ago where you played a New York Jets football player who injured his neck and fought back to eventually walk again? I am disabled from birth and confined to a wheelchair so I could understand how hard it must of been for that man to come back from his injuries. I do know that movie was based on actual events.

I loved your show and can't wait to see it next week.

I grew up in West Texas in the mid 60's playing for one of the lengends in coaching ( Emory Bellard )at one of the great high school programs in the country where the greatest game ever devised was played out before thousands every Friday night. Nothing can replace the glory and sheer fun we all felt every Friday night during the season. Your production seems to capture the poetry of those moments and I can almost guarantee your show will touch millions of Americans. We were saying a lot of those same lines many years ago........God bless Texas, the game, our friends, and living large in Texas!

Awesome Show! and YES keep GOD in Everything you do. Thank God there is a show that includes real life PRAYER. I will be watching every Tuesday. Can't wait to see more of that nice looking Coach Deeks!! Keep up the great work! No Dancing with the stars for me. ITS FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS FOREVER!

I just watched Friday Night Lights and thought it was the best new show this season! Couldn't believe it was over at the end. Can't wait until next week....congratulations NBC!

I just watched Friday Night Lights and I think it is the best new show, bar none! It went so fast I couldn't believe it was over at the end. Congratulations NBC!

Awesome! It was so real. I was brought back 30+ years to high school football in the beautiful hill country area of Texas. You worked it! Thanks so much.

I met you Peter in 1999 (my senior yr. at Permian). You were there for the pep rally and game, ESPN happened to be there that night filming. I hope you had a good taste of what WEST Texas football is all about. We planned on Wed. for bonfires on Thursday, Thursday planned for pep rally on Friday morning, and Friday morning we planned for Friday night football games. We really are all about God, family, and football! Pep rallys were fantastic, don't forget about those in your show.

I really enjoyed the show Friday Night Lights. So far it is the best show I have seen for quite a while. The only other shows I make it a point of watching is Deal or No Deal and Law and Order, which I have watched for years. At least NBC has a few shows worth watching. I hate the reality TV Shows.

Great story line, even though it very much resembled Varsity Blues. I am also in the industry, and I know that I would have fired my camera men (on the spot) for getting such jumpy camera shots. I know that it was probably the style that you were going for, but it was not tastefully done. Less is more, and please remember that!

ok ok ok i watched the show tonight and it was great my question did you get the idea about make the show form the movie " Friday Night Lights" because to me it was alot like it but it was the QB not the RB is that were you got the Idea email me back k thnak you

great job. keep up the good work. God bless football.

Peter... as a former player and football coach HS and College... you have a touchdown. I'm a screenwriter with a feature in developement... Mackler Entertainment... Is Exec. Producer in Hollywood. I have a ton of football stories... from playing, coaching and being raised in Massillon Ohio. Should you wish to discuss any ideas please email me.

Just so you know. The schools that are in wealthy areas are not the only ones with football stadiums like you saw on the show. Little Uvalde is a small town in Southwest Texas, (90 miles from anywhere)and not a wealthy area, and Uvalde CISD has a beautiful concrete staduim like the one on the show and its filled up by the entire town watching their Coyotes on Friday Nights. A 15,000 population town with a stadium that seats 10,000! Where else but Texas do you see that? Great show, and true to life. Hope it does well.

Are there any Hispanics? Its not balanced with the races. The camera work sucks big time. I think its a waste of time to watch the show. You have lost a viewer and I will spread the word.

I liked it except for all the God stuff - is the show funded by Republicans? School prayer is unconstitutional.

Are there any Hispanics? Its not balanced with the races. The camera work sucks big time. I think its a waste of time to watch the show. You have lost a viewer and will spread the word.

Seventh generation Texan. Not a fan of football, BUT your show is an excellent portrayal of Friday nights in Texas. Even the prayers and a shot of the drill team in the stands. I did miss the sound of the marching band helping to fire up the crowd though.

Are you going to stay realistic to high school in Texas? Or is this going to focus only on the football team and coaches? Which is fine and you did a great job of it, just curious where this will go?
There's an ugly underbelly in Texas high school,as well.
Like the cheerleader who gets pregnant and wants to continue to cheer at the games. (Texas has an extremely high teen pregnancy rate.) Or the star football player that gets caught by the drug dogs. Or the player that doesn't make the grades yet gets to play? High stakes testing?
Thought not. Too realistic.

Sorry coach! Most of the boys do like their beer and to party hardy, then show up at church on Sunday.

Bottom line. I like your show.

you've got a winner. Keep the Jesus thing in. Something we don't see every day.

As a father of two teen boys
[no they don't play football] and a Sunday school teacher I thought it was really moving and realistic to allow the players to pray in Jesus' name at the end of the show.
Thank you!

Score, Mr. Berg! Absolutely love the show! Not a big football fan, but the character, story, prayers, everything... just wonderful! I cannot wait for the coming episodes. I was totally enthralled. Good, good show!

Thank you!

camera work was a bit over done, but other wise great work on the technical side. however, I noticed no hispanics in the show,is this really Texas? What I loved about the book and saw in the movie was how the entire town identify themselves and were drawn to the team. it looks like you missed a couple of neighborhoods. look forward to hearing your cousin speak at Pittsburgh next month. Good luck with the show we enjoyed it.

I must say I was really impressed by the pilot, it peaked my interest and held my attention the whole way through. It brought back many memories and emotions from the Friday night football games here in Texas. You have pretty much captured all of the emotions and feelings during that time in my life. Being pretty strange back then(lets just say I wasn't your run of the mill high shcool student), plus being a coach's daughter was rough, but this show actually brought back all the enjoyable memories. Keep up the great work. Also, it rocks that you film this in Texas! Good for you to actually make it real.

-An appreciative fan from Fort Worth

After replaying the show I can see this looks like The Westlake (austin texas) Football Field, and the uniforms are exactly the same. Just so everyone knows from out of the Texas area, the football fields are not that nice, only at the richest schools like westlake, the rich mans school. I must also admit that the poltics where not displayed tonite, which is a major part of all Texas Sports. This is NOT a game of honor without money. You are either really rich or really poor the middle class are not highlited. But that is TV.

Great show, yes very very predictable. You can tell its about footbal due to all of the real fans watching tonightand criticizing the show! It's tv people its made to entertain. I loved it, I only hope I can continue to watch it with the camera angles and all the jittering. I feel like you need to buy the new improved user friendly cameras at any local store. I understand you want that " feeling" , but msn that was really annoying after a while

Can't watch to much when camera is moving to much. Great show, want to see more, but need to remain still long enough to focus on what we are looking at. (from Pflugerville- go Panthers / Cougars and Hawks.)

**Please include more band scenes, since they do give the crowd and players Spirit with their music and energy. need proof- go see the Pflugerville Connally Cougar Band, they ROCK!! And they love their Football team!!!

Cngrats on the show and thanks for letting us watch it via the web. Are planning to do that with the other episodes?

Great job Mr. Berg (and staff)!!!!It was really great and touching to see God included in the show, a much needed in our world of sports today as well as on t.v. in general and to have it displayed in a show with such emotions and the theme of football should touch many and be a great hit and gift for you...My son is 21 and was a jock who read his bible before games and prayed for his team and publicly thanked God for their sectional win... but was mostly ridiculed for this faith of his that he didn't hide as it was unusual for a jock to display it however his looks and athletic ability made him stand out. He modeled some as so many people said he should model or act but he's struggled with the path to be normal, yet be great and to make a difference, so he has left us in Indiana and is now in California where he was born hoping to get a big break in a good acting role in a wholesome show or movie, but doesn't know where to start...if there would be any chance in the world for extras or auditions for any new parts, my son would be a great fit if given the opportunity, he has the look and a way or heart for people that most people don't understand...but has a light about him that attracts them. Again, great job and thanks for your time. If there's "any" opportunity or possibility at all please e-mail and I'll give you his number or e-mail...Best wishes for success with the show!!!

Anonymous, it looks like you are out voted when it comes to how people loved the fact that GOD and prayer were just where they should be in the movie. You don't just put GOD in a box and pull him out when you think you need him and if it offends you then don't watch. Its people with your attitude about GOD and religeon that has brought about the problems we face in the schools today. If it were left up to the students to choose for themselves, prayer and GOD would be there, you might have a very few from homes who are non believers. Leaving GOD and prayer out, OFFENDS ME AND MANY AMERICANS!!!!! I pray the show stays on and stays as is.

Show was great and Texas will surely be proud...would also be great to have texas people as lead characters... we have alot of great actors in texas & texans in LA waiting for something just like this...if you need an actress who grew up in texas & is living in LA right now w/solid work experience in the industry, would be perfect for your show, u wont be disappointed IMDB has all her info...Christie Abbott 24yrs. thank you much

Peter,
I'm a Permian Panther from Odessa, TX...graduating in 1972. I hope that you will incorporate into the show just how much all students benefit from a successful football program like we had at Permian High School. Band students, bell team, pep squad, trainers, flag teams, cheerleaders, etc. were ALL able to travel free of charge to places that their families may have not been able to go. Nothing much is mentioned about just how much students learn about goals & achievement when you have opportunities to expand your horizons. We were more than young West Texans...we got to be ambassadors of our community and school...and we were PROUD!! Best Wishes to the success of this series!

fantastic, our family loves football, this is our new favorite show. we will be watching tomorrow night and I'm so excited about the season, keep up the good work.
this show reminds me of our everday life here in Alabama. My son plays every sport there is, he is 10 and loves the show.
Thanks Peter,
Alabama Football Family

Wonderful show!!!
As many have already said..
You captured the real spirit of Texas football...
Prayer and all!!
Thanks for a show that ...
Texas is proud to call it own!
Go FNL.....All the Way!!

I loved the show! Brought back many memories of playing HS football and especially watching many exciting games in that same stadium at my son's former high school.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen players taking a knee to pray for their fallen teammates. Leaving God out of Texas HS football would have made the plot unrealistic--I'm so glad you realized that important aspect of the whole experience and chose to include it.

You have a winner here...may it prosper and touch some hearts along the way!

The same thing happened to a player here less than two weeks ago. And yes both teams got down and prayed while the player was being attended to by medics.

Why in America do we have to get into words like "why weren't there any hispanics in the show" We really enjoy having to dial 1 for english, our USA native tongue.

Sorry, I guess it was David that was crude!! Sorry Terry, forgive me.
B

The beginning reminded me of how they treated the coach, Gene Hackman, in Hoosiers. Small town, loved the single sport, winning is the only option.

"Great show! But the time slot could be better - there's a lot of us parents with kids who play sports and are just coming home from practices/dinner. 9:00 would be better!"

Great idea. Change the time slot to 9:00 pm so that once you get home from practice with the kids they can stay up watching the show for an hour, then eat dinner, shower and get to bed so they can get up on time to go to school again the next day with no homework done, then fail in school get kicked off the team only to get home early enough to watch the show at 7:00 pm. How'd that be? Get a TiVo or a DVR.

Congratulations on a fabulous show! For all of you football fans, mark your calendars for December 22nd for the premiere of a great football movie titled WE ARE MARSHALL, starring Matthew McConaughey, Matthew Fox, David Straithern, Kimberly Williams Paisley, etc. It promises to be most inspirational!

Alright I am from Odessa,TX and I personnaly feel that this show was too much hollywood and not enough of what the show is about, Texas Football. For myself personally I hate to be a critic but this show just didn't capture me nearly as much as the movie Friday Night Lights. I feel like you need to capture just how important highschool football is in Texas. You on the other hand just took a hollywood version of what its like and I am sorry but Two-A-Days, which is based on Alabama football, is more compelling and exciting to me than what your show has presented. The sad part is Two-A-Days isn't even in Texas where highschool football is king to any other thing.

Peter - thank you for showing more of what it's like for the players, not just the coach. The religious aspect of the team is REAL in Texas (at least where we're from). I know the boys on my son's team ALWAYS had a team prayer (led by the boys - no coaches involved so the school district doesn't step in). I have seen the boys immediately take a knee in small groups when there is a major injury on the field no matter which team. While I know this is based on football in West TX I'm glad you stepped away from that a little by changing some of the aspects of the team (uniforms, etc.) While the movie focused on one team, taking this a step further to represent TX football in general is a positive - more story lines possible than sticking to the original exclusively. My son's team was fortunate to have been included in some of the game tapes in the movie - it would be fun to see some other real game tapes used if they can be integrated. Thanks for a refreshing drama - I'm tired of police shows and hospital shows!!!

Great casting for the coach. He is always so honest and sincere. He looks like a real person. I so much appreciate bring God and Jesus back into life again. Keep it up.

Again, I really enjoyed the pilot. As a christian, I too really responded to seeing the team pray for their fallen fellow player, but I really hope that the folks who are applauding that do not get disappointed in upcoming episodes. I mean, in the upcoming scenes at the end of the show, we saw images of fighting, sexual activity... I'm just saying that a lot of these kids aren't choir boys. The show has been updated to focus on today's teens, and these kids do a lot of things we didn't do even 15...20 years ago. Christianity is a culture in Texas, but it doesn't necessarily mean that these boys are "living the life." Regardless, I'll continue to watch because I thought the story and characters were strong, and I'm curious to see what happens to this team. I need to check out the book and prep for what other themes will be explored in the show. Great job, Peter and crew!

I like the "behind the scenes" aspect of the football game - like talking the locker room before the game and halftime, hearing the plays called from the sidelines, hearing the coaches yell at players . . . all the sort of stuff that you see on the "in depth" sports shows after a long weekend of football.

I think Terry needs to watch his mouth. We don't need offensive language on this blog. He can voice his opinion without being crude and trashy.

I think this show was great! I loved it! It was so uplifting and honoring to the Lord, i have waited a long time to see something this good on the media, for all eyes to see! Thank you so much for bringing real life to the screen and not sacraficing faith for the "toleration act".
Karissa

told my daughter Suzanne to watch the encore...great show
I just might watch it again with her!!

just to be clear, i'm not looking for a separation of religion and media - this show was a great depiciton of texas high school football. what it hasnt shown (maybe not yet, you better believe I will continue watching) is the other extreme, those people that will sue if their kids are forced to pray in a manner that is not appropriate, or at least the one kid that is not Christian and is visibly uncomfortable when his team kneels to pray (i.e. he stands alone, or kneels very awkwardly and is obvioiusly uncomfortable.) This does happen also.

The name of the song in the show is "Black Betty" by Ram Jam - I suppose that is the one everyone is asking about

Loved most of the latter part of the show. The football action and team interaction during the game were strong and kept me interested. Plus, that part was strongly moralistic and used prayer and Jesus' name in an earnest and positive light, very refreshing for primetime network TV. I also was very amused by the coach's family's dynamic--those scenes were well written and natural. The second string quarterback and his friend were another duo that I became quickly invested in. However, the sexual interaction and over-played stereotypes of most of the team and cheerleaders dragged the worth and enjoyment of the show down heavily for me. Besides knocking out the family friendly atmosphere that was advertised, it was rather annoying and way over-done. Also, the show would gain so much if the shaky handheld effect was dropped and replaced with steadycams, etc. I don't remember when I've been so aware of the camera during a drama. Really made it hard to concentrate on the story. Basically, with more of the style of the latter part, less of the pointless sexuality, and a more subtle filming technique, I'd be a regular viewer! P.S. Love the Kyle Chandler! Good job on casting him. :)

If the show is not going to be about the Permian Panther Mojo Football Team of Odessa, Texas, change the name of the team...

It's an insult...

Hey, Peter, amazing job witht he pilot episode, and the movie! I just graduated this year and I played varsity football at Troy High School in Michigan, and I have to say great job with the show, its got all the best aspects of the movie (camera shots, music, drama) and Friday Night Lights both the show and movie is probably the most well done and accurate depiction of what it feels like being a part of a football program, and I still get tears whenever I watch FNL (the movie) and even nearly shed a few tonight with the show. I used to watch the movie before games last season as a senior to get me pumped up. Great camerawork, great tone/music, great direction; I really hope to become a filmmaker some day, and I even used the song Your Hand In Mine and based a short video about my hometown for school on FNL. If you've got any tips for me, or you just want to hear me talk about how good FNL is, please email me DrEvilJr99@yahoo.com
Keep up the great work with the show dude! --TIM--

I was very impressed.. being from Odessa myself I am curious where this is being filmed and is Ratliff stadium being used in any of the shots?

It looks like you used the the same panther logo that Permian has (on the score board).

Probably a good thing this is ficticious.. being around when the book was written there was not one thing in that book that was a surprise to me.

The movie wasn't a realistic representation of Odessa and that is a shame.

Mojo who?

What a great show. It lead me to tears. I'm a UT Longhorn and we won the national championship last season 2005/2006 with Mack Brown.

I appreciated the fact that you captured the spirit and intensity of the game so well. The best part was when everyone was "coaching" the coach - it was so darn funny, yet it happens every second on TX talk radio.

There is an old saying that says,"In Texas, everyone is either a football player, or a football coach"

I also appreciated the fact that you showed how prayer helps to BRING us together whether we win or we loose, prayer helps you get through the game of life assuring that you win in life!

Hook 'Em Horns!

Now the mantras begin. A poster calling for more "diversity". What a bunch of horse hockey. Can't you people keep your political views out of ANYTHING? Geez...

Its been many years since I was in school, but it sure brings back memories, and it looked the same to me. I was in the marching band and loved it all, the lights, the smells, the sounds. We even had prayer before the start of the games by a local preacher, it was a small town also. On the out of town games, so many cars would be following the busses, loaded with most of the town people, school colors streamers flying in the wind, and kids yelling and singing school songs. The people who didn't go would be waiting either at the school or town square waiting on the return to find out who won. GREAT show, thank you for letting GOD be in there like it was and like it should be. I also am a Texan, lived here for all of my 60 years and you have it down pretty good. Texans love their football, even us females.
Hope to see this show for along time.

Are you still casting for upcoming episodes. Besides being great at Madden NFL on my X-box. I'm a gifted actor. I was in Spy Kids II playing an evil magnet guy. Also in the movie Ghost I plaid a ghost and threw Patrick Swazey off my train. I could play a former player who haunts the field, tackling players and yelling "Stay off my field" Cool huh? I should also be a writter.

Pete, excellent show. Bless you for showing how much God & Christ are a part of our lives. Keep it going, along with attention to true game and practice scenarios and play. Let the players/characters grow through the "game" and we'll ride along with you the entire way!

My son's name is Daniel Dayton and he plays on a high school team in Knoxville,Tn. He is a junior and plays wide receiver for the Halls Red Devils. I would like to let Connie Britton know that she is kin to Daniel. He is McCona George's great grandson. He is having a great season. His team would be a great interest builder if ever used for the show. If Connie wants to ever contact us she could email the family at madayton77@AOL.com.

I have never written to any TV network, but I was so inspired and impressed tonight that I had to let you know. Thank you, thank you for putting something on TV that is really intelligent, entertaining to watch, and really inspirational. Thank you for not making prayer a joke and for not using Jesus's name only as profanity. I tuned in out of curiosity, but now I will promote this show to everyone I come in contact with. Please don't succomb to the typical pressure to use Christians as punching bags. You've got something great here, and I think you represent far more the heart of America than some of the other shows and news on your network. Great show!!!

What made you come up with the idea to make the series "Friday Night Lights" when you did...Did it have anything to do with MTV's hit reality football show Two-A-Days??

Pete, well done.I am eagerly looking foward to the rest of the season GROVER(L.V.)

First let me say the show could be really good. The editing was horrible. The "crazy camera" is extremely annoing. You need to freshen up this old storyline the show was too predictable. You have alot of work to do but if you put it in the right direction you have yourself a good show. Also, thanks for showing the praying scene. It wouldn't be Texas football without it.

I had rented FNL and felt it was the best football movie I ever watched. I then read the book and felt the translation to film was also excellent. The TV show looks to be on par with the above mentioned. In light of the stuggles/pressures ESPN expierenced with "Players", do you feel a sense of responsibility regarding how HS "kids" will be portrayed in this series? Good luck with the show!

Peter: did most of your young actors for this show actually play football in high school or were they taught football skills from the ground up? I love the documentary feel of the camera.

Really enjoyed the show. Great story, great casting. But especially . . . thank you (and NBC, too) for not being afraid to put prayer in this show!!! Looking forward to the next episode.

Loved the show!! Grew up in Odessa and graduated from PHS as did my kids. Now live in DFW and seeing the show brought to mind the great memories of all the Friday nights I spent at Ratliff and even before that at Barrett Stadium,(that shows my age!) You kept it real with the prayers and references to faith and God. Thanks for not leaving that out.

To football mom, thats what the people at USC say. Those players were so real its not funny move to CALAFORNIA

Hey Pete I really enjoyed the show man. I'm a big fan of the movie as well. I think the series will live up to the hype as well as the movie did. I'm a fan of your acting too dude. Collateral and The Great White Hype were some good movies of yours. Well anyway I enjoyed the show and the whole thing looked good. Congrats I think you have a hit.

How will you balance football and the characters stories. Can we expect a big game every week? I remember from the extras on the DVD on the movie that it was quite ta big deal shooting those scenecs, so how would you pull it off weekly?

I understand that the jerky camera is to make you feel like your there. Or something to that effect. I guess it would work if I jump up and down when watching other people. I don't however so I was bothered by the shakey camera shots.

I can see that the "separation of church and media" gang are weighing in here, as well as some pundits who are judging the production after one episode. If it didn't catch your fancy, watch someting else next Tuesday. I, for one, will anxiously await the next installment.

Loved your show, glad to see Kyle Chandler in another great show as he was in for Tour of Duty and Early Edition. Being from western Pennsylvania where many great pro-football players have come from like Joe Namath, Tony Dorsett, Mike Ditka, Joe Montana, John Unitas where all these men have won the Super Bowl and all are in the Pro-Football Hall of Fame and well as George Blanda and Dan Marino who are in the H.O.F. and Ty Law who is also from this area and has won the Super Bowl plus so many other pro-players from western Pa.. Texas might claim to be the home of high school football on Friday nights, but when it comes to members from high school football to the Super Bowl and Hall of Fame, western Pa. has to be concidered as the area your great show should be located in. Could you please tell me how to contact the show, would like to write to a member of your show for a autograph request. Thanks

Great show!!Riveting, fast pace, great shots, fantastic cast, thumbs up script,THANK YOU FOR THE PRAYER AND TASTEFUL DEPICTION OF CHRISTIANS,clean show family approved. Can't wait till next episode.

Great Show. I think it has been mentioned a hundred times already but thanks for showing prayer and using the name of Jesus in the prayer at the end. I hope this remains a show I can watch with my kids in the room and not feel like the remote has to be by my side the whole time. There are about zero of those types of shows left in prime time.
I'm impressed with week one!

mack brown was awesome...You don't need a great QB to win...That was so great...

Please convey to my cousin, Sarah Aubrey, what a solid property you seem to have, after viewing the first episode. Best wishes for continued success.

It would be a mistake to believe based on this program that:
a. that Texas is the only place that takes football so seriously, and that Football is all anyone in Texas thinks about.
b. that Texas does not take education seriously
c. that this series is anything more than a dramatization and an attempt to exploit the success of the original Friday Night Lights story.

Will there be more sweating in the next episode? I just loved the announcers, they were very handsome men who really helped move the game action/story along. Please show more than quicky profile shots of them.

What a great forum to introduce a new discovery in preventiong Head injury. 90% of players are having the symptoms of dizziness, the sensation of seeing stars and headache associated with concussion.
A Harvard MGH professor confirms in a study, NFL statistics prove this orthodic, retainer like, appliances effectiveness with the NE Patriots. It is the subject of the Oct 16 ESPN the magazine feature story. Go to www.mahercor.com for a Dallas morning news story and an ESPN expose along with many more stories.

MR. BERG & CAST,
I THINK THAT YOU FINALLY HIT ON SOMETHING THAT CAN BE RELATED TO BY ALL AGE GROUPS, WHETHER IT BE THE CLICKS, NERDS, POPULAR, UNPOPULAR, THE PARENTS, OTHER SCHOOL RIVALS, ETC. YOUR SHOW BROUGHT BACK A LOT OF MEMORIES, ALL GOOD! IN LIGHT OF ALL THE RECENT SCHOOL PROBLEMS I HOPE THAT SOME OF THESE STUDENTS SEE HOW IT SHOULD BE. LETS HOPE THAT YOU AND YOUR SHOW WILL BE LOCKER AND STUDY HALL TALK TOMORROW !!! I THINK IT WILL BE. P.S. THANKS FOR LEAVING THE PRAYER IN THERE, IT WAS REFRESHING TO SEE KIDS ASKING. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ALL

Being from TX, I wanted to start laughing the first half of the show because of the over-exposed media hype of one high school football team. The show is about ten years behind the times, just like the book by Buzz Bissinger: godlike players, cheesy lines, and obtuse characters. The only saving grace of the show was the last few minutes of their first game. I give it 1/2 a season if the writing and character development doesn't improve.

I loved everything about this show. It is refreshing, sweet and packed with energy. Don't change anything!!

Mojo who?

So do we want realism or just political correctness? Why on earth would anyone think a Texas football team would be praying Muslim prayers? Way to go Peter in knowing how this team would actually pray.

did the actual movie inspire this show? i'm disappointed in the lack of diversity. i was looking foward to characters like boobie miles, chris corner, and ivory christian. did i mention i am disappointed in the lack of diversity.... can u tell me why you left such key characters out or can we expect to see more diversity in later shows? although i think i know the answer, this show is like all the rest. was your attempt to capture the heart of texas? if so maybe you've accomplished that, but i don't think you've captured the hearts of america...

although it was nice to see the two teams come together at the end, and recognize that the outcome of the game did not matter, the praying to Jesus specifically is quite bothersome. while yes, i will admit, prayer does take place at school (i'm from texas, i know it does, especially in the athletics programs) something needs to be brought up from the point of view that public schools and religion should be kept separate. as someone not of the Christian faith, and a participant of texas high school athletic programs, i did find it quite offensive when the team came together to pray, and it was not a "non-demoninational" service. It's not ok.

Peter,
Mike here, co-founder of Gridiron Heroes Spinal Cord Injury Organization. I wasn't ready for that - even though I heard it was coming. I hope you'll use this huge stage and the great show to help raise some funds for the hundreds of high school athletes across the country who have been devestated by this injury. I know you saw it first hand and understand the pain. Thanks for making it as realistic as possible.

First, I want to say I read several posts. Everyone is a critic, huh? I watched the Today show this morining and heard what the NY Times had to say and I agree 100%: POETRY. Stay true to your vision!!!! I have a feeling this is going to be a great season for you, and I know it will be more than just the mindless television that caters to popular demand.

AWESOME! You pulled me away from Dancing with the Stars. At the risk of mixing metaphors, you hit a homerun tonight with Friday Night Lights. I'll be back next week and I will be recommending this show to all my friends.

Great film. The best! Jay Leno can't make fun of this one!!

I'm in love with the game annoucers. Would you please show more of them than the brief profile shots.

Love how it reflected the coach, player relationship. The menturing, the compassion and emotion the players showed during the accident and aftermath. I especially loved that you mentioned the Lord Jesus Christ!! Not afraid to pray and share that feeling with both teams. Never ever be afraid to pray out in public and share the Lord. I enjoyed the muti-culteral actors and the feeling I was as at a real football field live and in person.. Truly a fabulous show and I look forward to seeing more!! Great Job.

I forgot to mention earlier that I was impressed at the prayer used during the show. My senior year (at a public high school) our players walked onto the field in pairs, holding hands, and said a prayer before every game and at half time - some teams thought we were a little "off", but hey, we made state that year.
Again - you have a great show and I can't wait to see more!

Great show! You've done an excellent job of capturing the emotions and essence of Texas high school football. The commitment to football IS religion to these kids, so the mixing of passion, emotion, religion and football is very natural and happens every Friday night throughout Texas.

It was an honor to view the show because of how real it is and how you included prayer, thank you for being real and not being afriad to do so, even to the point when the young man prayed in Jesus name, once again Thank You.

Thank you for having the defience and integrIty to include the inspirational Christian aspect to the show.
A unique oasis in the television desert.

The show was awesome and much like the movie and book. But only two issues...Why do you also have to have a fictitious radio frequency? There's no such AM frequency of 480 AM. Also, if this is early Sept. in a football season, I don't believe folks in Texas would be wearing coats and you showed trees without leaves already.

I am from Midland, Tx and was born in Odessa and I loved the show football is such a major part of our lives here, great job keep up the good work.......

It's so great to be able to watch a show that has some morals to it. My son Taylor is a sophomore in highschool and plays defensive tackle and some offensive tackle for JV and special teams for Varsity. We made it that we had everything done tonight so we could watch it together as a family and I am so glad we did. My son liked the qoute" Clear Eyes, Clear Hearts Can't Lose".I know he will gain from watching Friday Night Lights. Big thanks for not being afraid to use prayer. We had a player hurt 2 weeks ago in a game and had to be taken away in an ambulance and thanks to God he only had some bruised ribs and kidneys not that that is a good. But his strenght had him back playing this past Saturday. Our players got on their knees while the other team did drills on their sideline, and their fans continued to do cheers and the refs blew the whistle to start the game before they even had him off the field and the announcer kept announcing about the tremendous hit. I hope that those people watched tonight and found out the real way they should have behaved.
Thank You again for a good program. We will be watching it always.

God Bless

How'd you get Mack Brown. He was actually pretty good. Loved the line about not needing a good q'back to win a national championship. Clever!

the depiction of the injury scenes I have personally seen at CELINA, TX football games.

Hope y'all don't get sued for having Christian prayers. What about Muslim pryaers? Jesus is so no longer relevant in entertainment. What about Muslim players?

Great show. I grew up on Tennessee high school football. I appreciate the intensity from the players view point better after watching your show. I would like it if you did not have to use the "b----" word. We, as parents, have had to give up so much of what our kids can watch on TV because of language. I know they hear it at school all the time, but they do not have to hear it at home, too.

I'm interested to see the developing storylines. I am really enjoying the fact that they are praying. This is the second show I've seen this season(Studio 60 the other) where Christianity is part of the show. Is this a new angle NBC is going with? If so it is very refreshing to see religion presented in a positive light and what it is supposed to be. Not hateful or ignorant!! If not, NBC should consider that some people are ready for this type of programming and keep it up. Thanks

I absolutely LOVED this show. I accidentally turned it on and am so glad I did. It's WONDERFUL - so many facets of it - family, sports, ethics, integrity, what a novel idea ??? I look forward to many more !!!

Congratulations, Pete! I'm biased, but I kinda liked that cute NBC reporter in the beginning. Will we see more of him in future shows?

Please keep it a family show. Most family shows start out wholesome and then change to sex, sex, sex and a little more sex. I love the prayer at the end and I love the show. The end was great, I won't forget to watch next week.

this is a must see for everyone but i think it will a hit with men

Great show man, Brought me back in the days of high school football. Best show ever on tv history!! I have a question will there be more casting call for extra's like football players or fans?

I have to say the main reason I watched this show is because my old dance team, the Leander High School Blue Belles, were chosen to dance on the show and I wanted to see some girls I danced with. And I LOVE Longhorn football so it was great to see Mack Brown. I could tell you filmed in Pflugerville and it was neat to see Westlake playing against the team. We played them in high school. I really how you included God and the prayers and the end comments from the coach. I'll be watching! Thanks for a great show!

Great show! Pitch perfect pace and tone with the also great movie. By far the best pilot of the season. Can you speak to what I percieved to be some character changes and if the storylines will extend beyond those of the film (and book) or if they will simply show greater detail?

So far, so FABULOUS..."Texas Proud!!!"

AWESOME, SO MANY THOUGHTS OF MY 3 SONS FOOTBALL GAMES.
GOD IN A NICE SHOW, ITS ABOUT TIME.
LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT WEEK.

GOOD JOB.

Wow! One minute I'm up cheering on the Panthers and the next, I'm sobbing on my husband's shoulder. So much emotion in one short hour! From a house full of football fanatics...we salute you, Mr. Berg! And thank you for the Godly influence...just another reason to tune in weekly!

LOVED THE SHOW even though it made me cry. Will definitely be tuned in for every episode. I've known Scott Porter (Street) a long time and he's as sweet as his character. Thanks for producing such a wonderful show. Looking forward to more.

Thank you for giving us a television series we can watch as a family! I was so pleased that I had to e-mail you. WE LOVED IT and cant wait to watch it again. I havent been able to say that in a very long time.

We really enjoyed the show tonight. We love that fact that you have the courage to go agaainst the flow of traditional Hollywood to incorporate Christianity into your show, with such phrases as God, Jesus and prayer. THANK YOU !

Also, it was really interesting to watch a cameo by Coach Long as booster along with hearing my friends names like Landry, Coy, Dillard, Oliver, and Campbell even though he was a white running back, and the announcer pronounced tony's last name as gullia not gulla but still really cool that you put it into the work. I think this show will catch on and when you have a few more characters to write in Jon Clay would sound really sexy, haha. Keep it up Peter, go chaps.

I loved the Mack Brown appearance in the show - that was a hoot!!! Will he be showing up in any future episodes???

To the poster who was bothered by prayer in the show--you are entitled to your beliefs, but please understand that separation of church and state does not prevent individual high school students (or anyone else) from choosing to pray of their own accord. This was not the school forcing them to pray, it was players coming together in an act each apparently felt moved to join. While you don't have to agree or choose to join in, it might help you understand someone else's point of view if you accept that he or she has that right. (We'll leave aside whether the Constitution would even cover these incidents as off topic.)

Great Show! Keep this up and you got a hit. I like the music, camera action, cut-aways, and story lines. Nothing else like this on TV. Don't change anything.

Congrats Mr. Berg,
The show seems Awesome. So what is more satisfying acting, writing or directing? And what advice could you give someone who wants to start out as a PA or Assistant?

Thought the show was great. It's nice to watch football on Saturday,Sunday and Monday, and then watch how all those players got there on Tuesday. It's a nice change of pace for night time television. I liked how there wasn't a lot of metal music during the games. The softer tone, almost silence worked great and I think it helped draw the viewer in on a more emotional level.

Here’s Million Dollar Tip – Mix Drama With Reality!!

Don’t dramatize the game footage. You need to find Number 1 High School Teams (for their divisions) that will play REAL GAMES on camera for NBC, use the footage and write your story around that. It’s cool to have a football Drama and all but the “football†aspect…..has to be legit/real.

To be honest... the last 10min. seemed so fake. I know you made a TV drama called Friday Night Lights, but when it comes to the football sequences...you need to cut the drama with the hired actors use real game footage.

Was ok but didn't like the hand held camera. it's still hot in Texas

Where is the show filmed? The backdrop and landscape of the town of "Dillon" is similar to West Texas.

I love it, but I'm a Permian Panther from Odessa, TX, Class of '72. This show really captured the excitement of Texas high school football, and the experiences surrounding Panther football that will stay with students forever. I hope that you will show how supporting high school football benefits many students--as band students, Bell team, student trainers, Pep squad, etc. Permian football gave so many students in Odessa, TX the opportunity to travel, to see & do things that their families might not have been able to provide for them. I loved the show...the content of the injured player really touched my heart...and Peter, we know who & what that was about. Odessans loved having you & your crew here in making the movie. Thanks & Best Wishes

It was so refreshing to see a faith based TV show. This was the first time I ever enjoyed football on TV. This came at a good time with so much violence in our schools this week. At last a coach who is not afraid to say "God" outloud. Thanks so much for this production.

Enjoyed the show. Too much shakey camera in the beginning. Gave me a headache. Really liked the dialogue. I was really happy that you included prayer for the quarterback. I am amazed and grateful that the network allowed "in Jesus name". I have a 13yr old wide receiver - hoping he'll be able to keep watching the show. There is no other primetime show that he is allowed to watch. Thanks!

Pete... this show is such a breath of fresh air like I experienced in Canada two weeks ago on a canoeing outing. As Mark posted, this is pretty bad for a Texas game this time of year with long sleeves... but for Ohio... this is Great as this is typical mid-west weather for football.

Outstanding and AWESOME. I bet this is the first time most of America has heard the Lord's Prayer on television.

The ACLU... let 'em come at us. We need to hear our country's founders screaming in our ears of God's good grace which they put in our founding papers... and which is NOT found in ANY other religion. Keep up the message, Brother!

Permian Panther Mojo Football?
Whats the Deal???
Why did not just call it the Dillon Donkeys???

If you were going to make up a Jack-ass Story-Line...

I look forward to seeing if the show stays clean, or goes "smutty" like most of them do.

The injury to the star quarterback was an eerie coincidence to an injury sustained by a local Rock Island, IL high school player just 11 days ago. He got hit and suffered a C-4 compression break in his vertebrae. Same exact thing happened - he didn't move at all while attended to and continues to fight paralysis while in the hospital. Bet he and the family would be thrilled if somehow the show could get involved in his life or at least send their prayers.

Awesome writing, well developed characters, and great football action! Even the game announcers were incredible, they kept the story moving.

Mr. Berg Sir,
Would you like to come over to our home here in Pf- after shooting for some homestyle cookin? We live about 5 blocks from PHS. which our daughter attends. The show brought us to tears tonight. Excellent work sir.
Steve, Carmen and family.

So Peter, do you plan on showing the players showering in the locker room or delve into their romantic lives when your ratings begin to sag? Or do you just plan on doing an injury every week?
--Stan Strangelove

Pete -- as manager of an NBC affiliate I'm proud to have this program on our air. Thank you for an outstanding job.

Al

I actually enjoyed the show and the monkey-cam effect. I've always appreciated that. It's definitely more real and not the bland, mainstream studio TV shooting style. Kudos on that. I do hope the storyline expands a bit though. Beyond that of an amalgam of all the football movies we've seen. Then again it is called "Friday Night Lights." I hope folks don't expect more. Good entertainment either way.

I don't know how to say it, but being an extra on your show it's hard to say it's bad. The acting is overacted on, the characters are obvious and big headed and the story line is so predictable. Mr. berg I'm sorry but the movie was such a treasure to be cursed by this spin off. I've seen some of the direction on the set and it no way resembles your brainchild of the original movie. Oh yeah and the way it seems like it tries to copy the movie from the station wagon to the attitude of #33 it's just bad planning. I've been in some films and I'm one of your extras, mostly playing opposing players like on Friday when I played for the Larabee Lions in Del Valle, the direction of this is terrible. Plus you gotta admit a little racism when you have any football team in Texas and not feature 1 hispanic player, c'mon if you're looking for authenticity try keeping your script, characters, and direction real. 1 season tops! Just do what you did like what you did with the movie. See ya on set Pete.

One more comment - to the prayer scene as well. Absolutely touching - and wonderful that both teams prayed together. Haven't seen that in a while, really made the final scene.

It was so refreshing to view a decent show that allowed faith and praying to be a part of it. Our youth need much more encouragement such as this and I was pleasantly surprised that God was included. Keep up the good work.

I was watching the show for my step-son, he play 33 on the field. I really enjoyed the show and looking forward to it every week. This is a great pretray of Texas football. Kepp up the good work.

I was happy to hear the Name of The Lord Jesus Christ called upon in the prayer. I am sure that the MAJORITY of the American people will agree and even on a MAJOR network NBC! Thank YOU!!!!!

Fantastic show - takes me back to high school. I can't wait to see the next episode. You ARE amazing!

Thanks Peter Berg for creating a show that has a moving story along with the show of prayer and faith in Jesus. There are not many shows I will encourage my 10 and 12 year old boys (football players) to watch but this is one I will pass on to others. May you continue to be blessed.

I really enjoyed the show (missed the first 20 mins though).

Why was the setting changed from Permian? Even changed the school colors but kept the mascot???

this is a must for anybody, but i think you will pick up alot of male viewers

You got it. That's what us Texas boys would do when one of our players got hurt. We would get down on our knees and pray! And you used Jesus. Wow. Something I have to say I've never seen. I'll be watching and telling my friends. Thanks for a good hour of entertainment.

It was like I was there back in 1978 when I got hurt playing on a Friday night.
Keep up the good work

Wow. All of a sudden some folks are armchair film critics. Camera angles, sound, etc. Lighten up and enjoy, folks! Life is too short! Great job Pete. I loved it.

My name is Mitch Ross, and I am the founder of the S.W.A.T.S. program, which stands for Sports With Alternatives To Steroids. I am also a Christian and I watched your show tonight, I was very impressed that you had some references to God, and the prayer in the game when the athlete got hurt. My program also stands for Sports With Alternative To Sin. I believe that your show is going to reach out to a lot of young athletes, and in todays sports there is a real steroid problem. The S.W.A.T.S. program is going to be the same as the DARE program. I don't know if you would be at least interested in talking to me about some way some how reaching out to the audience that you are going to be reaching with this type of show. There's a lot of kids that could get educated on the bad side effects of steroids as well as the alternatives. I may just be typing this and wasting my time, but then again, if you are reading this and you are the producer of this TV show...how good would you as a producer of a show such as this look if you were to get behind the S.W.A.T.S. program and somehow be a part of getting it to this age group person. If you look at the last year in sports, the number one story is steroids...from Berry Bonds, to Justin Gatlin, to the Tour De France...I know that ratings are everything and I know there is the ability to put PSA type commercials into programs. You yourself may be a Christian, imagine the ability to reach people who love sports (football, baseball, soccer, basketball etc.)who are probably going to tune into your show just because it's a football show. You could introduce millions of youth to an education program as well as a program that will lead young people to Christ. My phone number is 205-281-3488. God bless, Mitch Ross

OK, first time I've ever even logged on to a network web site, but your first episode moved me that much. I live in the Austin area and enjoyed the local "inside" details (Westlake/Westbury, Coy Aune, Street for the QBs name, Pflugerville's uniform, stadium, etc...). Actors are solid and even though the plotline was a tad cliche (c'mon, Berg!) the quality acting pulled me past that. Look forward to seeing what you come up with the rest of the season.

Thanks for keeping prayer among our students real. When they prayed together, those were the most real moments of the show. I love it! Keep up the good work!

Before this television season started, I had two shows that were must watch TV for me, this one and Studio 60. Yours blows Sorkin's out of the water. I already care more about your characters than I think I ever will about those on Studio 60. Keep up the good work.

Resist the urge to use the show as a bully pulpit for the hollywood social agenda and you might have something here. BTW, In Arkansas we had to be able to play both sides of the ball.

Can we expect the writing to get better? I think that the storyline was very predictable, because it was a combination of the varsity blues, and the original story of Friday Night Lights. Why not have the coach lose the game you set up the conflict and the come from behind story that can be used for the rest of the season. I think that everyone saw the quarterback getting hurt, and the last second win. Why not really put something into this show, and come up with some good writing that is real. Provide the viewers with some drama that will not make them feel they are just watching the synopsis of the whole Texas High School football film genre in one TV show.

I leave you with this question: Are people going to continue to watch the show if they can just go out and rent the movie to see what happens?

The writing and story lines have to really improve or the viewer retention is going to go way down.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this show. Team, heart, loyalty.... That's what the game is about. FINISH THE DRILL ! Good luck..it is a hit in our house already!

stop the music. Way too much could not hear the talking. Of what I could hear it appears it will be an excellent show.

Why did the clock keep running before the last play? The running back got out of bounds which should have stopped the clock. And is every week going to be the greatest comeback in high school football history?

obviously, I'm biased, I thought this show was great & captured the excitement of high school football in Texas. It caught my attention and I'll watch again! Heard this show was filmed around the Austin area...is this true?

GREAT TOUCH with the prayer. So American and Real. My team prayed before and after every game and it was a big PUBLIC Louisiana School.

Ok, wierd. Who is Kyle? Damn him. Great job Peter.

You will probably be sick of hearing the word "awesome", but I can't think of anything better!

FNL makes me think of my school, Summerville (SC) High, where football has often been compared to Texas Football Fever. (Summerville High is home turf of John McKissick, one of the winningest high school coaches ever).

I look forward to a lot more FNL!

First off I like the elements of human drama you guys created and overall I think the show has a lot of potential. There were two things that I saw that hurt the show tonight. They both occured during the football scene. First was when the RB when out of bounds with around 1 min remaining and the had to hurry up to the line of scrimmage to snap the ball however in real football game the game clock stops when a player goes out of bounds. The second prolem was after the long touchdown pass to win the game I think that the same player who caught the 50+ yard TD was also the same player who celebrated with the QB at the line of scrimmage immediately following the play which seems to be impossible

I enjoyed the show and what was so ironic was that at the end when the QB is injured and taken off the field in undertermined condition is somewhat similiar that occurred to an Austin, Tx Westlake player by the name of Matt Nader on September 22nd. He collasped on the bench and it was a matter of life and death to save him. Had it not been for a medical device called a defribillator, he would have died. His heart had stopped and he was revived. I am enclosing the link.

Hi I am Glenn and I play texas 5a football. I like what you have done with the show so far, and I know its hard to capture everything about highschool football. The only suggestion I have is that you throw in some big own big time teams like Katy, FB Kempner, or Madison to take on the Panthers. West Texas football may be loved and appreciated more by there home town fans , but Houston area teams bring the big time talent like vince young, Drew Brees, and Dominic Rhodes. Im just asking you to throw in a big time team with some big time players and thats 5a football. Thanks for reading this.

well Mr Berg I enjoyed the show. I must say though the last part when the star qauterback goes down for tackling with his head hit to close to home for me.. In 1996 I broke my C-4 vertabrate in a high school game in MA. I mean its no texas football but we still take it big up here.. Anyways you pretty much nailed it in how they cut your pads off and take the screws off of your helmet.. God that brought it all back tonight watching that last part of your show. I remember all the players coming to the hospital and all my family.. God it was so tuff back then for me i remember how i felt like i was on top of the world before that because i just earned a starting spot on varsity and then the very next game i broke my neck. I had been playing football since i was seven and then at a blink of an eye it was over.. If you have any questions feel free to email me.. Thank you and great job on nailing what really does happen after a injury like that.. Glenn

I actually played high school football with Scott Porter I'm glad to see him doing well if you ever need a big time linebacker roll with an ex college athlete let me know i live in dallas now. Tell Porter I said good luck up and to do a story on the LH vs LB game his junior year

Great show! BUT the women need to work on their West Texan accent. It seemed so forced. Other than that the show was very well done. I am avaiable as a consultant.

Cathy from Abilene

Thanks for a great show!! We really appreciate the fact that you took a stand and ended the prayer in Jesus' name.

God Bless You!!!

Superb! My husband loves football and tonight I was able to see real heart in football. Something I did not see in the Movie version. Also, let me say thank you for the courage of stepping out and praying with such depth as was done in this series. Just mentioning of Jesus is not an easy thing to get away with. I dont know you , Peter, But if you produced this episode, your heart is what I saw, and it was pure.

Thank you for that superb change in television.

good choice in the gilrs though

Excellent show. The story line was unexpected. The show represents grass roots Americana well. Toward the end you even had the courage to allow the name of Jesus to be spoken... haven't heard that on prime-time TV in a long time (when not used as a curse word). We're not ashamed to respectfully say His name here in the American heartland - finally somebody in the media gets that. Great show - Kudos!

I've been waiting for a show like this.... I live in Alabama, where FOOTBALL IS LIFE!!!!! In my personal opion this show is VERY realistic to life in Alabama also. I love the show and can't wait to see what happens next week!!!!!!!!

Bama Mom!!!!! Roll Tide!!!!
GO HOOVER BUCS!!!!!!

Our family loved the show.
So refreshing to watch a positive, faith bearing show.

Peter, Did you deliberately use the name "Jason Street" because of the great Longview High School (Longview, Texas) and UTexas (Austin, Texas) quarterback "James Street" who played in the 60's?

Liked the show but wonder why you don't have a drill team featured? You had everything else ... why not them? Every HS in TX has them!

oh yhea! 1 more thing 09 was my #. thanx again 4 the memories!!!

Awesome writing, well developed characters, and great football action! Even the game announcers were incredible, they kept the story moving.

Peter:

Like the way you held the last cut before you showed the touchdown.

I like what you showed (your subtext) w/o saying it as far the connection of blacks and whites in the town...is this town segregated? On that note, I would like to see more black home life.

I like the director's syle---the Michael Mann effect...however---most of your diehard football fans will not like that style of filming and editing. It was a bit too much. I say cut it back a bit.

Are shooting out in Texas? or some Western style version of Canada? :)

Thanks for your time....

For those complaining about the weather at the game, the game that was filmed for this was a playoff game at the end of November last year (Westlake Chaps vs Pflugerville Panthers). It was cool and rainy at that game. Unfortunately, the Chaps lost again tonight.

Peter did a great job of showing the atmosphere after the injury. It was a re-creation of a Westlake (westerby?) / SA Madison playoff game where a Madison player was paralyzed. In real life, he was on the field for about 30 mins before they took him away, and you could hear a pin drop that entire time, except for when his mother started screaming. I got chills having to relive that tonight.

Loved the show. I love football and freedom of speech!
Cath Whynot, Ma.

"I really wanted to get into this show, but the horrible shots were more than distracting to me. Professional cameras are really easy to keep steady, I know because it is my major, and I use them all the time. So, I'm rather confused as to why directors & producers would allow for shots of that nature. I think if you really focused on getting new camera people that actually know how to keep the camera still, then this show could be rather good."

It's supposed to be like that. It's supposed to make you feel like you are there. It's shot like that on purpose. Ask your teachers about it.

I really like the show. I grew up a few hours away form Permian H.S..In Texas H.S. football is certainly this serious and it carries over to the college ranks. Where are you shooting the show? Keep up the god work and try to continue to make the show as close to actual life as possible. That will play alot better, especially with people that know what is going on.

Awesome new show ! Question?
Why have you changed the team to the Dillon Panthers instead of leaving it the Odessa Permian Panthers like in the book ? Also, I live in West Texas and Autumn in West Texas is HOT--at least until Halloween. Nobody, but nobody wears a jacket durng the first games...more like shorts and sundresses.
It was great though--keep up the good work !

"Man", what a great show !!!!!!I live in a town in SC. And i have a friend here from Texas and he played for the real team there in Texas ..we have talked for months about this show coming on . And he has told me that "Football " is living large in Texas...My son plays football this is truely a "God" sent show with all American Football should be ;just know we will be there every show to watch . Thanks for bringing it to "NBC" God bless ....Its a great reflection of football ......YOU DID GOODDDDDD extra Great .....

Thank you so much for this show! Finally a family show in prime time! I do appreciate you including christian values of prayer and faith in your show, I know that will touch the hearts of your viewers. Keep up the good work!

Awesome!! I love high school football and bringing faith into makes it so much more meaningful. This is just what we need now. Tomorrow isn't promised to anyone. Thank you for having a show with so much caring and forgiveness. Can't wait until next week.

We always prayed before every game. Your show is true to fact except you do not have to make up a town, we that know, know it is Odessa Permiam!! That's fine, because they were the top of the district for many years. They deserve the recognition.

Very well done. Thank you for a great American story.

thank you for a wholesome show and for having prayer added to the story.usually on tv and movies prayer comes from preachers who are devients or wierd.i hope you can resist the temptation to heat up the sex between these kids.Great show thanks

great show loved it keep it going from lebanon pa

I am in 8th grade and play football. Thanks for making this show. It is a show I can watch with my family. And to those people who are being picky about the little things. You need to enjoy the show not pick at what the players were wearing and the time of the year. The body armor keeps your body cool when you sweat.

I come from a southern college footbal town where high school football still reigns supreme, good job!

Loved the show. I love football and freedom of speech!
Cath Whynot, Ma.

At the risk of mixing sports metaphors, your FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS has hit a homerun! Wonderfully done! Odessa Football aces the Yankees/Tigers! Congratulations on a terrific pilot!

I like the "behind the scenes" aspect of the football game - like talking the locker room before the game and halftime, hearing the plays called from the sidelines, hearing the coaches yell at players . . . all the sort of stuff that you see on the "in depth" sports shows after a long weekend of football.

I am by no means a fan of football but my best friend is so I watched it with her. From the beginning to the end, I found myself on the edge of my seat..cheering for the home team..concerned for the guy that got hurt..and just overall interested in this GREAT SHOW! But when you added that prayer in the end, I almost cried. It was very touching. AWESOME AWESOME SHOW!

Loved the show, It gave me goosebumps. When Streeter got injured. Im a 13 year old QB who had season ending
knee surgery on the first game of the year. It was pouring down rain on a 4 and goal from the 7 and I got the touchdown but my foot got stuck in the mud and kids were hiting me from behind and the side and my legg twisted every way possible. There was a flag on the field so i did'nt even get the touchdown. But my team went on to lose the game.

Best show on primetime Ive seen in years!! Congrats on finally bringing some good TV to our living rooms. I am addicted and can't wait till next weeks show! Good luck!

Excellent show!!! Too much garbage on t.v.---nice to finally see some good entertainment on t.v. Good depiction of Texas!! Great job!!! Keep it up.

Great show! Pitch perfect to the tone and pace of an also great movie. Can you speak to what I percieved to be some character changes v/s the movie and if the storylines will extend beyond the movie (and book) or simply go in to greater detail?

I justwanted to let you know that the opening show of Friday Night Lights touchs closer to home for my son and I than you will ever know. He played football his entire school years from 4th grade pee wee all the way to his Senior year. He wasn't the star of the team, but man could he play. And with him, every win belonged to the team but every lose he took upon his on shoulders. I can't tell you how many times he blamed himself for the loses even though he might not have even got to play that game. But that is and was the way my son is when it came to football. He loves the game and even though he will never get to play again, he still loves it and goes to our schools games when he can. You see last year two days after Christmas, three weeks after his senior high season finished, he had a bad car wreck which has put him in a powerchair. He is bound and determined to walk again, and as his mother I will never take or let anyone else take that away from him. There was no drugs or acholol involved, he was dodging a dog in the road. He is my life, pride and joy, and watching the show tonight, I knew the feelings of that mother and father. And even though it is a show, I just want to let everyone know that there are those of us that has experienced this for real. And so far, you are right on the money. Thanks for giving us such a good,no brillant show to watch.

I'm from Galveston, TX. High School football is nearly a religion here. In answer to the poster who asked why the show is not shown on Friday nights, even tho the title is FRIDAY NIGHTS.

Well, here in Texas, no one would be watching the show. We are all watching high school football.

Thanks for the christian prayer in the show. American Christians seem to have to hide now days.

peter,
i think the show will be great but i thought that it was very predictable from the very start. with talking about how good the star qb was and then showing the back up qb you could tell that the star would be hurt and that the back up would save the day. i hope that the rest of the season isnt so predictable.
thanks,
ryan smith

Wasn't expecting much (not b/c of you, just shows lately) but Loved it. Yeah, I had goosebumps at the end, I admit.

Just don't ruin the show by making it OVERDONE like som many other shows, Windfall is a great example.

There are so few good shows out now, don't reinvent the wheel, just make a good honest show and it will be a hit.

I was really looking forward to this program. Thanks for not disappointing me. It was a good story and it is a good program. Much success wished to you.

Thank You. Smart good TV is hard to find. I played under Texas's Friday Night Lights and, so far, you have it right. Ironically, I live in Lufkin, TX, home of the Lufkin Panthers. Lufkin is a yearly state championship contender. I have read the original Friday Night Lights and have a real feel for the the Midland, Tx area. My family comes from Forney, Tx and Southlake, Tx both of whom have great football traditions in the state of Texas. The keys to dealing with the lights are hidden away in those campfire lights and in that locker room. As a teenage football captain in a small Texas town you could count on a free breakfast at the Dairy Queen...if you won. If you lost, you probably wouldn't eat out all week. All in all..thanks for keeping it real! Does anybody actually read these?

David C. Miller

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful...................

I'm from Odessa (class 88), so I know first hand what it is all about. What is accurate and what I appreciate is the Lord's prayer being shown - most Texas towns are full of church goin people. Suggestion: I hope you have a detailed scene in a future episode showing a pep rally. Pep rallies are big events in west Texas.

WOW!!! That was a GREAT show! It's nice to see a show that places emphasis on the important things in life for a change!!! Thanks for not being afraid to highlight the positive aspects of God and prayer!!!!!!

Thanks for bringing Kyle Chandler back to a regular primetime TV series. I really enjoyed him in "Early Edition" and it's a joy to once again watch this talented actor do what he does so well.

Hey Peter,
I'm officially a new fan of your show. The storyline may be a bit disjointed, but more than that I love the casting job. The coach resembles what a high school coach should be. More than that I sincerely appreciate the religious aspect that is incorporated in the show. I look foward to see how the storyline plays out. Good luck and keep up the good work.

What a great show!I hope that people will look beyond the obvious premise and see that this show isn't about football or even teenage drama. It is about survival. It is about challenging situations and making the most of them. It is about social pressures and real world issues. Television takes those topics that we feel most uncomfortable acknowledging and presents them in a format that we can easily digest (i.e. storytelling through teenagers). Also, I think the way the show is shot is completely appropriate. Life isn't a series of steady-cam shots. Thanks for bringing some feeling into it! I can appreciate not knowing where the eye is going to travel next - rather than a series of predictable close-ups and pans! I also happy to see Kyle Chandler in a role that can showcase his skills as an actor. Hopefully others will see what I see - true emotion, even in the slightest of actions- that's talent (and a good director!) Some may not agree with me and that is fine, I think the show has a lot of potential and I wish you the best!

I loved the show. I just wish this had been on TV when my son was younger. Finally something I'm going to watch every week. Thank you

I loved everything about the pilot -- from the music to the atmosphere to the "documentary" style filming, which works especially well for the game sequences.

Will you keep the same hand-held style for all the episodes?

Great show! I forgot what it was like to experience this! The only other time since high school was last football season in Bay St. Louis, MS - the first game after Katrina -the energy was just like that! High school players have so much heart.

as i have heard it said from texans its football first, god second and family third. as in the book and movie friday night lights (and suggested in the tv show), losing is not an option - start losing and your job is history. the show has promise, i liked it and hope it will continue to show life like football well there are no guarantees - just dont let it become a teen soap drama please.

Really liked the show-the characters in a small Texas town were really authentic. My only constructive comment would be to slow down the scenes a little to let us absorb the emotions of the characters. Sometimes, the scene shifted, and I wasn't ready to move on. I couldn't even see the score of both teams in one take. Love Texas football!

I like David's question regarding being on the show, any hints on where to send resumes and headshots. I would love to be part of the best new show on T.V.

the game audio is not working, not gritty and real enough, also game footage looking pretty fake, the game announcers not real, the ambiance audio is empty and not reflective of a real game, where are the band drums? we have viewed thousands of games on tv and you have to emulate the audio and pacing of the real football game....your characters are winners! But I cannot be dragged thru a fake game again.

I no the high school game very well and am a giant football fan. I was very disappointed with tonights show. Within ten minutes of the show i new the quarterback was going to get seriously hurt. Very predictible and much less intersting than i hoped. Unless you start incorperating hot "Nip Tuc" like sex scenes, this show will flop big time. I was hopeing for somthing I havnt seen before. I havnt even seen scenes to next weeks show and i can already predict axactly whats going to happen; alot of adversity among the team, the town bashing the coach and controversy among the girl friend of the now injured quarterback. I've never posted a review on any movie or show, but come on, this show stunk. They only managed to score 14 points with the nations top quarterback and then managed to score just as many with 3 minutes to go with "Johnny i threw the last pass from my own 20 yard line." TIP: if your going to produce a major high school football show, higher someone to assist you that knows the game.

I am 52 and this show brings back the love I think every generation has for high school football. A lot has changed sinced 1969-72 but the feelings are still there. Also, thank you for the open praying....God bless you for that and don't let the ACLU talk you down from that. What a pleasant surprise.I love my college football...War Eagle! and this gives me a chance to think back on my high school days. Great Show....Kyle Chandler is a hit!!

Some do not take High School football very serious in real life. In my school we do. In a small town in Wisconsin, what more is there to love than football? This show really picks out the highs and lows of High School football. This show made my clench my teeth and curl my fingers, just as I would at my high school football game. I cried when that boy was hit and he didnt move. Nothing that serious has happened to any of our players yet. I am praying to God that it doesnt. When a boy has to be carried out at any football game, it sure as hell should bring tears to your eyes! These boys would die out there on that field. This show tells it all. It may be different in other schools but in mine they sure would. I love this show and I hope the up coming episodes are just as great. Some people have picked out the bad things in the show like how Texas isnt cold in September. Its a tv show people. Yes its made to seem real, but not everything is going to be perfect. Now are we focused on the game, and the players, or what they are wearing?

what a breath of fresh air. finally a family show on primetime. thank you very much for bringing God into the picture and saying the Lord's prayer was awesome. i hope you will be successful and thank you.

Loved the show!!!!!!
Thank you for the prayers shown on the show. That's what makes Christians proud - to see someone take a stand.

Thanks for a great family show.

Is this supposed to be West Texas? It feels like Ohio. If you're gonna take the name from a book based on West Texas ball, you might utilize the characters that truly exist in these places. At least do a better job than two high schools kids sitting down at a keg party hollering "Texas Forever". Don't yell it, show it. Rowdy. Rambunctious. The writing is off kilter and being bastardized by someone who has not spent enough time around Texas high school football players.

As a Texas football Mom I can say you have certainly hit the target with this show. This one will defintely be on my DVR list. Watching the actors in this show brought back all of the emotion of being a football parent in Texas. I hope that we will get to see the other coaches' characters developed as the show goes on context for a team - assistants are such a big part of the overall - I loved the locker room scene at halftime - hope you focus more on the "dark side" (defense) in some of the future scripts - I'm anxious to talk to my son who is in college now to get his opinion. Thanks for bringing what is a way of life for many TX families into the homes of the nation - I know my son will always be a fan of TX high school football - there's nothing like it!!
What was the biggest challenge in going from the movie to a weekly format???

Hi Pete, let me qualify my comment by noting that I rarely watch commercial television. I refuse to tune into any show billed as "reality TV" and do not watch sit-coms because they are not amusing, just dumb.

I just finished watching the show. From start to finish it was outstanding. The characters, the story line, the actors were all top notch.

Hopefully you will maintain the quality, decency, and drama throughout the upcoming shows.

Congratulations to you and NBC.

I thought it was great. Good story ya'll go get em'. I think the story is great , it reminded me of H.S. in Cleburne, Tx Thanks

Hey, great first show. Brought me back to my high school days. Which wasnt too long ago, im play college ball now... but i was wondering, how do you get a role to act in sport films and so on.

great show! i was a lil worried bout a movie to tv show conversion. but you did it well! let me say that i played h.s football n iwas a back up q.b, the same thing happen to me! but the injury was'nt as serious as "streets" but with 1:30 left. i and my team won the game. thank you for giving me those memories again. by the way best movie to t.v show since "buffy the vampire slayer" go and laugh but it was a cool show. KEEP UP THE GREAT WRITING!!!!

Love the hand-held photography. The close-ups are on the mark. Great job, love it!

Great show - thanks for being so realistic and keeping the displays of praying in the pilot. Hope it continues.

Peter: Tell Buzz Hello from Sweatty. I was glad to see that you kept the edge from the movie in the show. Enjoyed the 1st show. I also enjoy all the subtle digs you have in the show.
Cheers.

Fabulous show! I found myself really getting into the game action! We just witnessed a similar game last Friday night between two rivals (Gainesville, GA), and your show captured similar emotions. Great work!

CAN I GET AN AUTOGRAPHED PICTURE OF THE COACH KYLE CHANDLER.
AND ANOTHER OF YOU!
I AM SERIOUS

I loved the show. I live in Texas and feel that the show captures what high school football really represents. Great casting, the characters where believeable and did not use those fakes Texas accents that you often hear. Can't wait to watch the rest of the season!!!

The show is fantastic. This captured the reality and fears of those who sit in the stands and support the team. I look forward to the future weeks. It was a little difficult to watch the jumping of the camera-hopefully that will be resolved in future episodes. GREAT to see that it will be replayed on Wednesday night for those who missed tonights premier.

I was curious as to why not Odessa, or west texas? And why the color change in uniform? I grew up in west texas in awe of the permian mysique. If the show is to carry the FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS title I believe that some resemblence of west texas should be incorporated. I now live away from west texas but the show seemed like it was a team from dallas or houston and not in the Midland/Odessa area. I believe more work needs to be put into making it seem more like Texas football. Remember Texans are proud of their state.

I'm not a football fan. But great storytelling reveals itself like a well executed play. Based on this pilot I've got new 'expectations' for a new level of televison entertainment. I might even get rid of HBO for TV this good. Nice going NBC. Please don't fumble this talent.

What a GREAT show! I loved it! My 3 sons all played high school football -- it brought back many memories, both good and bad. The excitement, the anticipation of winning, etc. but having a son on the field makes a mother worry about her son's safety.

As a 56 year old as of 9-26, I grew up in Ohio with a deep love for football. I was excited to see this show. Though my wife and I liked the story line, the camera bouncing around was like home movies. Finally, towards the end of the show, the camera shots were steady. If the filming continues to bounce, we may look for something else to watch. Fire your director and get someone that can capture full views with a steady camera. Good story line even with the folks at home wondering about the QB that was injured.

That show was one of the best, most exciting TV shows I have ever watched. I am a 45 yr old woman/Mom/wife former cheerleader, football fan and mother of 2 teenagers. I don't think I am probably your target audience BUT I LOVED IT! You depicted the whole scene of teens/football/angst/the highs and lows and the meddlesome parents and the extremes of competition perfectly. The characters were well defined in such a short show. You included a glimpse of many different types at high school and of the parents. The action scenes were great. I felt like I was there. I hope everyone gets a chance to see the show.(My kids are doing their homework I will make sure they download it this weekend to catch up.) It should be a huge hit. How refreshing. It was dramatic, funny, intense all at the same time.Congrats

Unfortunately I only caught the last 5-10 mins, but from what I saw I am definitely planning on watching next week. It seems the show displayed what most Americans desire, love and support for one another, clean fun and a Christain foundation----what a wonderful change from violent, criminal, sex filled movies! I bet most of the comments you receive will echo this----don't change your format---America needs more of this---God Bless you and your staff for the inclusion of Him!!!

I'm not the biggest fan of football, but you got me hooked on this show. I was first amazed by how you showed prayer before the game and on then again on the field. But it was the use of the most often forbiddedn name of Jesus that left me not only speachless but also in tears, quite literally. To hear that name spoken on prome time television is something I thought I was gone for good. Please continue do not let the hate mail that is inevitably coming over it discourage it from happening again.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and God bless.

I was sooooo taken by the show of faith and mention of Jesus in prayer on national TV. Way to go Peter Berg not be afraid to speak of what this nation was founded on. I have a 10 and 12 year old who are both playing football and so enjoyed the show. Its one show I can sit with them and enjoy! Again Thanks and may you be Blessed!

Excellent. Finally, someone with sense enough to let God back on T.V. And guess what? It's O.K.!!!!

This show rocks....great storyline....and football!Love the letterbox, love the handheld cameras, love the music and nice to see not afraid to put a little God into it(they can still do that at public HS in Texas?) its always good to hear ND talked about too GO IRISH! can't wait for the next show

Great Show. But does anyone in Hollywood realize that in Texas it is HOT at the start of football season? The characters were wearing Jackets and it looked like cool weather. And hot in Texas means 100+ degrees. The kids and coaches should be sweating it out in the first few months of game and practices

I don't know how you did it but you nailed Texas high school football including all the drama. Of course, I could have done without the UT coach, Tom what's his name, but I'm not a fan of UT anyway! The show is great but I don't know if I am going to be able to watch - brought me to tears when the quarterback was hit and then again when he was in the "halo". Overall, excellent show. Really good entertainment. Congrats!

I think the first episode was awsome. It was exciting and moving at the same time, it gave me chills. I am definitly hooked. I was wondering if you think it will be hard casting new actors every season and being able to keep your audience hooked when they will be seeing a new cast every year?

Loved it. Was just as crazy as actually attending a game. And I can relate to it too - reminds me of the very same struggles my Tar Heels and their coach are facing.

Hey Peter,
I'm officially a new fan of your show. The storyline may be a bit disjointed, but more than that I love the casting job. The coach resembles what a high school coach should be. More than that I sincerely appreciate the religious aspect that is incorporated in the show. I look foward to see how the storyline plays out. Good luck and keep up the good work.

When I heard the show from the other room, I didn't get excited cause it was football. My hubby and I don't get into sports on TV, so I just kept working on the computer. The more I listened to the show, the more excited I got. And my little couch potato came running into the computer room and said, "Hey, you gotta write them! What a great show! It's on again tomorrow night!" I said, "Yea, I heard." FINALLY, a great family show that will keep us all feeling good and waiting til the next show! Thank you, thank you! I agree, you will be back up to #1 is NBC picks up this kind of programming! Congrats!

I loved this show! My sons played great football in Florida starting with pee wee football. My one son was second team all state. This gives the true flavor for those memorable Friday nights! Good Luck!

I enjoyed the show except for one glaring error. I am from the South, Georgia, so I am confused as to how you can have a program about high school football in a rural Tx town where almost NO ONE HAS A TEXAS ACCENT. Texas is a most distinctive acctent so the ommision is glaring.

Best Regards,

Ken Mathis

I have never seen this show but I loved it. It was so refreshing to see something that has a true story line and the praying, wow!! I'm going to let my kids watch it next week. Keep up the good work it was great and heart felt.

Hey Pete I really enjoyed the show man. I'm a big fan of the movie as well. I think the series will live up to the hype as well as the movie did. I'm a fan of your acting too dude. Collateral and The Great White Hype were good movies too. Well anyway I enjoyed the show and the whole thing looked good. Congrats I think you have a hit.

the camera work is cutting too fast to the next scene. it doesn't give the brain time to catch up with what the eye saw. and no, i'm not slow.

I liked the show, but was very annoyed with the over abundance of music constantly in the background. It made it distracting and very hard to concentrate on the images and words of the actors. Good job, but less music from now on.

what a great show: its all the love and psshion of a texas high school foot ball in the state of texas. keep up the good work

I just happen to tunein and caught the last drive to end the game but I was really touched at the end when the players met in the center of the field to pray.

I was glad to hear God and Jesus mentioned during the pray.

Congratulations!!! I will try to watch the entire episode tomorrow.

It took me back 50 years to those great Friday nights. Thanks

I loved the show.I think that it's great you have the courage to use prayer and the mighty name JESUS on primetime tv there needs to be more shows like this one.JESUS needs to be heard more on tv.

what a breath of fresh air. finally a family show on primetime. thank you very much for bringing God into the picture and saying the Lord's prayer was awesome. i hope you will be successful and thank you.

You have a winner Pete. Really enjoyed the first show.
Please keep showing the Christian aspects of the show. The kids need to see that it's ok to be that way. We need a positive show on TV. I'm personally tired of all the shows that are negative and show no respect for the other person.
Congrats to you and to NBC.

Bravo! Love the show and the filming style. I'm also happy to see that team prayer was included as a pertinent part of the story line.

As a Texas educator, it's nice to see Texas coaches, parents, and students taken seriously. I only had about three problems with your pilot: #1 we take football seriously in Texas, but we have fun doing it - the characters could lighten up a little, especially early in the season when they are playing non-district games which don't count in final rankings. #2 Marching bands in Texas are VERY large and loud and a huge part of the game atmoshpere. It was really missed. #3 I can't imagine a beer bar-b-que the night before a game. The parents and coaches wouldn't allow it, and team leaders would not participate in it. Friday night after the game is a different story.

Real feel. The prayer at the end was great. As a high school football team chaplain, I have seen players remember their Christian upbringing and that the Lord blesses them with ability to play and to endure difficult times on and off the field.

Being from El Paso and now Austin...it was great..my hi school played Permian for district 4AAAA by in the 60's and my brother played against them in the 70's..loved..love seeing CoacH Mac..I don't care if he did get paid, I am sure he was not violating any rules...why are people always looking for the worst..Loved that you did not exaggerate our accents!Hook "Em Horns!!!

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.....................

Awesome! Words cannot describe! Energy & Emotional! Great Actors!Highest quality everything!

We're ready to audition!! Now!!

great show, love the music. I want to tell you about a band from new england that would be a great match for your show. The bands website is wearei.com please check them out and contact us through the website info. thanks

I loved the show even though I don't know beans about football. Heartwarming and refreshing. Thanks!

I too appreciate the mention of God, but be careful not to make a mockery of Him and the individual's faith.

I have the same question like other blogger why you didn't use the black and white for player uniforms - you used it for the pee wee team.

You could have left out the bloody operation scene too. I don't like the wild camera movement is certain scenes either.

Stay true to the story of Spirit of the Panthers and true to God, and you could have a very successful show.

As a minister and working in a church with over 1,000 members we must say we appreciate your fortitude to honor GOD like our nation used to. If you keep that up you will draw a lot of our folks to watch your show. Thank you for bringing back some of our faith to tv. It's been a long time since a decent show was on in prime time the whole family could enjoy. Please keep it up.

LOVE KYLE CHANDLER AND THE PRAYERS AND LOVED THE GAME, NEVER EVER WATCHED FOOTBALL BEFORE BUT GAME WAS BEAUTIFUL. WOW

show was excellent. Loved the hand-held camera work, it reminded me of one of my all time favorite shows, Homicide: Life on the Street. It added to the sense of urgency and realism! NBC should give you a 2 hr movie to let us get to know the characters. We Okies are pretty familiar with HS football too, and your show was spot on, right down to the squeeze to win put on the head coach. Loved that part, why not try to get more college coaches to do a cameo for you? Thank goodness Mack Brown is a better coach than an actor, though (lol)!!

I totally loved this show! It's going to be on my to watch list every week! It was so awesome, it had a great story and I loved how everyone came together at the end!

what a breath of fresh air. finally a family show on primetime. thank you very much for bringing God into the picture and saying the Lord's prayer was awesome. i hope you will be successful and thank you.

Great Show!!! I was a quarterback for my high school football team 11 years ago and this show gave me the chills...felt like i was right back there..Loved every second of it...These were some of the best years of my life and this show allows me to reflect back on some of those moments..

OK..So I live in Texas..Home grown Texan. Football was always a huge part of my life. Still is to some extent. Reared in Big "D", a suburb really, and now married, and living in a smaller town East of Dallas, football is still huge. I am really enjoying the show. I love the intensity. I really appreciate that you include the fact that not only do Texans love football.. we love our God. Thanks for showing this. I love the prayer on the feild after the win. When one of our own is hurt, or a victory is won; all glory goes to Him. I will watch on this alone. Good job! I love that you have...wel...balls..Sir!

I very much enjoyed the show, however found the music very annoying and it made it extremely hard to hear the actual show. I will continue to watch the show provide the intrusive music is either lowered or stopped.

Great Show, Great to show praying as a group. The only complaint I heard was the TV man moves around to fast and makes people dizzy.Other then that should be a good TV show. Thanks

Great show! I am glad to see something new and refreshing on this fall. The show seems to capture every aspect that I love about high school football. Thanks again for a great show.

I really like the fact that you and your team saw it fit to include prayer in the show.

My wife and I have been waiting all summer for this show and we loved it. I was especially glad you didn't drag out this first win into a couple of episodes. Definitely a hit. Looking forward to next week.

What the hell Friday Night Lights meets Varsity Blues after the first 5 seconds I knew this show was going to suck. The wardrobe sucked Other posters noted that. The coach was not believable. I went out to wash my Land Rover and predicted to my wife what was going to happen. NBC great job sticking the Notre Dame reference with the recruiter. I would say just hire some one from Texas to produce this show or just pull it. Your doing the movie and my state a disservice. This sucked worse than Tuesday Night Book Club!!! P.S. If your not from Texas your opinions don't really matter anyway.

first of all, great episode, but i was wondering what made you stray from the book? as far as the name of the school, the uniforms, and the names of the characters? i didnt think the movie showed enough of the players lives like the book did, so i was hopeing this show would cover that.

Thanks for a show that I can feel good about my teenagers watching. I like that you included prayer in your show Way to go.

You have captured the emotion and passion we Texans have for the game. I am 56 and I was 17 again for a while. Great show.

I enjoyed the first episode, having played at ALDINE SR. HIGH in '86, brings back some good memories of Texas high school football. Would like to see involvement of the school bands, which were so much a part of the game, and a factor, no matter how seemingly insignificant, in winnings of games....school spirit! I miss those days gettin ready at the field house, the fans,bands,friends...friday night football in Texas is very competitive and taken very seriously thanks!

So does the director of this show know what football is or did you hire someone who knew what futbol was and didn't know there was a difference?

What a great show: Its all the love and psshion of a texas high school foot ball in the state of texas. keep up the good work.

I really enjoyed the show and hope it does great in the ratings.

For the people who commented about the weather and how everyone was dressed, do you not realize that this episode was filmed in the spring? That's when most pilots are made.

I'm sure the next episodes will be different since they would have been filmed in late summer.

Anyway, I thought everyone did a great job. I can't wait to find out more about the coach, his family, and Matt. My favorite kids in the show were Matt, the coach's daughter and Matt's best friend.

Prayer at the end....awesome! That's what keeps us Texans so close...God and Football! You rock!

I've been waiting for this show to come on since I saw the 1st trailer ... I wasn't disappointed one bit! The characters are so believable. The storyline is action-packed. The tension is believable and it makes the show. I had tears in my eyes when the show ended. Keep up the good work. You have all the elements going!!

As a photographer who covered high school games in Florida, mom would not have gone out on the field. Look through the photographers lens but I never saw one leave the side lines. But I will definitely tune in next week.

I thought is was going to be an air-headed cheerleader movie with football as the backdrop. I was surprised and amazed at the depth of the characters, the reality of the football sequences, and the sincerity of the REAL meaning of Christianity in our daily lives. "Friday Night Lights" showed the rest of us - those who work hard, play hard, and know that (right after football), God is in control and our only source of strength.

I have signed to be an extra for this show and was actually contacted last week to play a football player but unable to go because of a broken leg. I found this very interesting and usually stray away from sports shows but I will try to watch this all season and try to be an extra once my leg heals.

I graduated from Midland Lee in 1998 so I am familiar with west Texas football. I was disappointed that you decided to "fictionalize" most aspects of the story. Changing the city of Odessa to Dillion, changing black and white uniforms to a less impressive blue and white, to name a few examples. You ripped the heart out of what the original "Friday Night Lights" was all about, MOJO Permian Football. Generic, waterdown, unoriginal pilot. I wanted so badly for it to be good......

Great show and great that it's filmed in Texas. GO TEXAS! It has a lot of good potential but i gotta say you need Tony in it. LOL Check out my website tonyoller.com. If you want a good Texas/LA actor to add to your cast, call me cuz I think that the coach's daughter needs a boyfriend. ;) Yeah baby!

I didn't see the entire show, but was encouraged and entertained by that which I did see. I've never commented before on a TV show, but I appreciated the fact that what I viewed had a positive message which is too frequently missing. Children are being devastated spiritually, and morally by most of that which they view on TV. Keep up the good work.

Mr. Berg and Mr Reiner,

This show caught me completely by surprize tonight. Well done. Writing staff, production staff well done.

I liked the cinematography and editing style. Did you shoot multiple cameras during the football game scenes? I wanted to see a shot from the perspective of a fan in the crowd watching the came.

It could have been interesting to have felt like I was watching this game like a real football game. You had all these stories from different characters but you never once showed us what they might have scene. That could have been cool.

What a GREAT show! I loved it! My 3 sons all played high school football -- it brought back many memories, both good and bad. The excitement, the anticipation of winning, etc. but having a son on the field makes a mother worry about her son's safety.

I am an ex miss phs/ in the orginal movie the quarterback is my brother in law's cousin. It is amazing you have Mac Brown in your series......Funny thing, my son played baseball for the University of Texas. Street is a very well known name.
Keep up the great work. I will continue to watch!!

excellant!

We need to see more cheerleaders!

Awesome! Thankyou for having the courage to use the name of Jesus!

Excellent show! I felt like I was at my son's football game last Friday in San Marcos. This IS Texas football. The end had me crying and remembering to say an extra prayer for the young man from Johnson City who was carried off the field in an ambulance. The scene was so true to what we witnessed Friday: young man down, crowd silent, every player down on one knee, prayers, ambulance, gurnie, mother and two young girls screaming on the field as they approached and saw the horrific injury their loved one sustained. Thank you for keeping it real.

Peter,
We were mesmerized! I grew up in Texas and you captured the authenticity of the experience. You even made me cry in the end and I don't think that has ever happened during a TV show. We loved the kid who asked if God loves football. Thanks for a great night of entertainment!

Thank you for showing the faith of the players and even having guts to mention Jesus in the prayer. I hope this doesn't end up like all the other shows and begin to portray Christians in a unfair way.
IT WAS A GREAT SHOW! Brought back memories from high school. I plan to be a regular viewer. At least until you begin to put a anti-Christian slant on it.

GREAT JOB ON THE NEW SHOW!!!! THE SCRIPT IS GREAT AND THE THOSE ACTORS ARE PRETTY DAMN GOOD! MY NEW FAVORITE SHOW NOW!!!! WOOOHOOOOO

Peter,
Great show! Definately the best pilot I've seen of any show this season. I'm a fan of the movie and this obviously follows closely in its path and the tone was captured perfectly. There seemed to be some character changes, though, can you speak to those and to if the storylines will extend beyond the movie (and book premise)?

first of all great show it shows what is important kids;prayer;life and football i think it is great to have someone on t.v.to say jesus christ out loud in a good way ...bravo

Loved the prayer at the end of the show. That shows the real Texas, not what Hollywood ususally thinks!!! Thank you for that. Finally someone who gets what we really want to see on TV. I cried for the last 5 minutes. Great show! (and I don't even really care for football. Go figure!)

will mack brown appear again in the season.also great show the cameras were great i dont care what other people say.

I read some of the early comments and I think Dillon is a perfect stereotypical footbal town! I've lived in one! There are great characters with lots of room for growth and high school football should be able to provide numerous scenarios! I loved it...it felt All-American to me!

I think the show has a lot of potential, but the loud music in the background made it very hard to understand what was being said.

GREAT JOB!!!!!!

Tell Sarah we love it! - you guys need to get her bio on the site.....

Coming from West Texas (Abilene)- you've done well....

But Austin is so proud of our own.....

GREAT show ~ my two kids are in college now & i'm in a wheelchair... what FUN to have my "friday nights" back! you won me over & just like high school i can't wait for FRIDAY (tuesday) next week. thanx, a true fan

you nailed it !!!!!!!!! from a youth football coach, you captured the emotion, the concerns, presures & expectations of all of us that try to help today's youth by mentoring and molding our kids-young men THANKS AGAIN!!!!

Last series was not possible.
An onside kick recovered at the fifty, a first down inside the thirty where runner goes out of bounds but the clock is started after the play is placed down by officials, and then while inside the thirty they throw a bomb where the receiver catches the ball at the thirty yard line. It was fun to watch but lacked any sense of football realism.

MR. BERG I LOVE THE SHOW BUT PLEASE DO NOT MAKE IT WHEREWHITE FEMALE CHEERLEADERS START GOING OUT WITH NIGGER PLAYERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Peter,

My name is Claude Reid. I am an Actor in Chicago and I enjoyed the show tonight. I would like to know If I can audition for you? Thanks in advance.

What was the name of the song at the end of the pilot episode tonight? It was awesome, just like the show. If anyone knows, please email me at MCammon2801@yahoo.com
thanks

what was the qoute fromt eh end of the show, like about that everyone falls and that you always loose something

I loved the prayer scene. I actually go tears in my eyes. Way to bring out the emotion and introduce a higher being! I loved it.

Excellent show!! Very well done! I love how both teams knelt down and prayed for the injured player. Imagine that GOD and Prayer on TV--go figure--finally. Such a great story line and I am now hooked and can not wait to see the next show to see what happens with the QB> Geat cliff hanger. Can't wait to see more.

I'm not a football fan. But great storytelling reveals itself like a well executed play. Based on this pilot I've got new 'expectations' for a new level of televison entertainment. I might even get rid of HBO for TV this good. Nice going NBC. Please don't fumble this talent.

Prayer in the show? GREAT!

I very much enjoyed the show, however found the music very annoying and it made it extremely hard to hear the actual show. I will continue to watch the show provide the intrusive music is either lowered or stopped.

Friday Night Lights was fresh and finely tuned. It unveiled each character so distinctly. The tension created among the main characters and their interactions with the town folks, reporters, etc. kept my attention. Congratulations and thank you.

Hello Mr. Berg,
Thank you for adding the prayer! I hope your show will have many more such positive and heartening moments. I hope you will be able to find a way to show kids the negative effects of many of the things they tend to think are cool in a very positive manner. It's an excellent show with lots of opportunities for life lessons. Thank you, again.
Teresa
Texarkana, TX

Please steady the camera so I can watch more than 5 minutes at a time. I literally had to close my eyes and just listen to most of the show!

Peter,
What a great job of capturing the hearts of the American people. This was a refreshing change from all of the trash we stumble across on prime time TV. Especially the 8:00pm slot.

Congratulations!!!!

So far, I LOVE this show. I grew up in Odessa, but went to high school in a different part of TX and now live in Washington, DC. But this takes me back. I miss the days when everyone looked forward to Friday nights, when nothing else mattered for those 3 hours but supporting our team and our marching band, having fun and watching some football. People outside of Texas will never understand what it's like to grow up there, where they televise high school football. They will never understand that from September through December, this is what rules our lives. We do get our educations, and we get darn good educations. But we love our football. Thanks for this show. It really brings back some wonderful memories.

terrific!

I liked it. Some of the stuff of the movie is in there, but different enought that I didn't feel like I was watching the same thing. I can see why some of you think Varsity Blues (High School, Football), but come on... that was SO soapy compared to this. LOVE Kyle Chandler... great casting there. Oh, and to Ricky... Texas is in the Bible belt... they pray there... if you can't handle that then don't watch

I was wondering how much of West Texas Football you studied because of Joe Beene in Odessa,Texas (Permian Panthers)...he is still paralyzed...but it happened in practice - not in the game.
It really struck a nerve for me because of this tradegy.
Our community still prays for Joe and his family.

Thanks for your response

The prayer at the end is awesome...that's what keeps us Texans so close. Jesus and Football!!! You're the best!

Great show! My wife ACTUALLY sat and watched something about football! Only problem was the clock on the second to last play should not have been running! The runner went out of bounds after he gained the yards for a first down. Thus, the clock would have started on the snap. The show had the clock running as soon as the chains were reset... that was incorrect, unless the runner was tackled in bounds. Then the clock would stop for the first down, and then start as soon as the chains were reset and the ball was ready for play. Technicallity, I know, but being a football official in the state of Texas it's hard to not watch and critique. :)

will mack brown appear again in the season.also great show the cameras were great i dont care what other people say.

I'm not a fan of football and watched the show because the pilot was shot where I live in Pflugerville, Texas. I was enthralled! I'm still wiping tears from my eyes, I was so moved. Excellent job!

OK OK OK there is alot of complaints about the technical aspects and yes they could have been better BUT the story held well and I am anxious to see how the show progress's. Good job overall

I really enjoyed the show tonight and I especially enjoyed a show where people actually prayed and showed their faith openly instead of all the politically correct garbage that TV is so famous for. Keep up the good programming. It is nice to have a show worth watching.

i was only able to watch the show towards the end. i applaud you for assigning sensitivity and civility on the part of the players, fans, coaches and others involved. i wonder whether in real life so many people would be sensitive to street and his family. it is refreshing to have a show for families and teens that are so supportive and concerned!!!

Great format for a show. Loved the location shots. FYI, my fiance actually broke his neck during a football game in 1983 (Pflugerville H.S.) He is fine, but had great potential to go college/pro.

excellent job with the show. i was true to the movie and events that happened. why have the head quarterback get hurt in the first show?

I have never seen this show but I loved it. It was so refreshing to see something that has a true story line and the praying, wow!! I'm going to let my kids watch it next week. Keep up the good work it was great and heart felt.

Peter,

We are fans from Bridgewater. Wonderful show and yes life is very precious and each of us does fall at some time - but that is when our faith, our friends and total strangers give you the strength to continue. You captured that so well tonight

Why Dillon? Why Odessa?
Why not Calallen?

Way to go Peter. You absolutely nailed it again. I experienced southern High School Football in Florida. Continued success! From David and Goliath-(White Shepperd) from 13 St. (Ye old Hood), West Village - NYC
Awesome Dude...

loved the show, BUT, seems as though, there is a certain amount of time to give the eye to focus on a subject, it seems as though your camera work is a bit short on that. it switches to something else going on way too fast. i had to look away a few times because my brain felt overloaded!

I enjoyed the premiere. One small point - The kicking tee used for the onside kick is "old school." The GROUND ZERO 1 tee is the tee of choice of every NFL kicker (used in every NFL game since 1999) and it and the GROUND ZERO 2 & GROUND ZERO ONSIDE are the most popular tees in high schools & colleges. I'd be happy to send you samples of these tees (I'm the inventor) for use in the show. Feel free to E-mail me your address.

How many shows can you make out of a high school football season?? No coach in his right mind would let a drunk on the team,, Put Gary back in Early Edition.. PLEASE Don't trun him into a bad person.. Why ruin his life??

Wayne

I don't really "watch" tv - it is on while I am doing other things. I heard praying and the word "God" quite a few times and I found this to be very refreshing. I will sit and watch next weeks episode. I applaud your choice.

Very happy you included the prayer and reference to God. Don't back down off that important part of football in Texas

I am a 38 year old female and love football and the show is great...don't listen to all the negatives. I will watch weekly and can't wait until next week....

I loved the show. I had the privaledge of playing for the real Gary Gaines. Was coach Taylor a ficticous character?

Loved the show!!! So true to life in small town Texas. Football is really very serious here, shouldn't be, but is. Very emotional. Got to watch a funny, serious and sometimes unflattering. But, wow, then I saw a game. Loved it!!! Most Americans will not appreciate the format because they don't have a clue about football in Texas unless they live in Alabama.

The shaky camara was so bad I almost got sick. My wife had to leave the room. Otherwise, I decent show.

Top quality -- especially the prayer for the injured player -- loved seeing good role models for today's youth!!

I really liked the first episode a lot. In the very beginning, it was very hard to understand the dialogue over the louder music. If you could tone the music down lower than the voices, we could understand more. Thanks!

Great Job, I see it all week and every Saturday night in Texas! Loved it, you should use the story line that is happening now. One football player got knocked out at a party and then the player, 3 friends and all 4 player dads later found the guy, chased him to a different county. They put the guy in intensive care. A warrant was issued for attempted murder, but the guys are still playing and still in school. I'm sure they can work it out after football season. Truth is better than fiction.

Where do we send our text messages to vote on which team wins each week?

Wondering how many (and who) football consultants you use?

Kind of a downer to open the show with the star quarterback being paralyzed but I guess it will work itself out.

Wow What a great show. It hit close to home. Two weeks ago our neighboring community high school had such a disaster. One of the key players on the football team recieved a burst fracture of the C4 vertabrae and is now paralized from the neck down they are not sure if it is permanent. So your show really hit the reality spot. I really love it and plan on catching every episode.

To murray bennett...no you do not need to see the movie to get it. This show has nothing to do with Odessa, TX...the legacy of the Panthers nor the essence of what football in Odessa is!!!

Great Show. Really well done and shows a lot of great spirit for football and high school in general. We need more shows like this. Finally a show that is one we can't wait to see what happens. We have a local website in town that talks about the new tv season, www.charlotteonestop.com and I bet that people will be saying how great this show is. Fantastic job and keep it up!!

the show is unwatchable. the hand-held camera and the two or three-second edits just createmotion sickness. either get a steadi-cam, or at least a tripod. i gave it a try, but--that's it for me.

How can you have a show about football in Texas but not have any Mexican-American
main characters? What's wrong with you and NBC? Oh yeah, the network of "Friends"
and "ER".

Having gone to high school in Texas I have to say that this show is easy to relate to. The anticipation for the game every Friday is right on. For many of these boys football is there way out and the real life drama that comes with a win or loss is very real.

God Bless you for developing a program that shows High School athletes that can "PRAY" before, during and after games. It's great to see how FAITH in God goes beyond church and "on to the field". We need more T.V. programs like this!!! Thank you so much, Debra

Peter,
Great job. I hope everyone caught the message at the end. Each season brings a new challenge. If you get a chance, give me a call and I'll catch you up.

WOW!!! What a great show! I felt like I just relived the last few weeks watching my high school team (Foley High Foley, AL) on Friday nights and my college team (Auburn University) on Saturdays. I don't know if my nerves can handle this 3 times each week! Congrats on the Premiere!

Peter,
What a great job of capturing the hearts of the American people. This was a refreshing change from all of the trash we stumble across on prime time TV. Especially the 8:00pm slot.

Congratulations!!!!

I really enjoyed the show! I remember it like it was yesterday. Madison vs Westlake the silence in the stadium, the sound of his mother crying and the students including my daughters crying. We all got home and hugged our kids a little tighter that day. As time passed David Edwards inspired us all with his smile and courage.

Thanks for telling the story and and educating the kids and parents about the many dynamics of High School athletics.

God bless David Edwards!

MT

I have been following Texas high school football for over 50 years. I enjoyed the show. However, the beginning of the show was very boring. I hope the next shows will be better.

Great show, but, just have to pay attention to the rules of the game to make it more real. The player ran out of bounds at the end of the game and then team had to rush to get the game winning play off. When a player runs out of bounds the clock automatically stops leaving no reason to rush for the next play. the clock doesnt re-start til the next snap of the ball. just some thought for ya....

Think the show has a lot of potential, but didn't like the loud music in the background, made it very hard to understand what was being said.

Pete, Congrats - Once again a job well done. A long way from Big Red Hockey!

GREAT show ~ my two kids are in college now & i'm in a wheelchair... what FUN to have my "friday nights" back! you won me over & just like high school i can't wait for FRIDAY (tuesday) next week. thanx, a true fan

Kudos for mentioning Our Father and Prayer!! Please Pray for Joe Beene.

WOW! Very enjoyable, the passion and energy of High School football is captured very well. I am from a small Kasas town where everything was centered around Friday nights whether football or basketball. Great job!

I LOVE this show! I absolutely love the fact that they pray at the game and aren't afraid to mention Jesus! Way to go!! I support this show 100%! I'm looking forward to the next episode! :-)

great show, dramatic, realistic, dynamic----but longer shots would help if you're going to continue with hand-helds since we need a breather now and then---and the music drowns out dialogue which is irritating and unnecessary.
good luck, you've got a hit.

terrific!

i would like to see a episode that shows that just because you have great talent. you might not have enough confidence within yourself and how does one get the confidence to show your talent thanks pk ocal fl

I would the dialogue of the final sceen ...
starting about where the coach says "we all fall"
It is powerful sermon material...
how can I get teh script...
really just the last three minutes.
Thanks.

Do NOT change a thing!! Promise?

Very moving to see all the players come together in prayer. Great show!

Loved your show. My only complaint is that the environmental noise and music often drowned out what the characters were saying. I find this problem on most NBC shows. Perhaps you would like to visit and watch with me. I think you would be disappointed that the wonderful writing is lost.

Absolutely dead-on.I'm married to a high school football coach and it's a perfect look into the lives of high school football players/coaches.I can tell you there is nothin better than Friday night when your lookin for a win -and Saturday morning when you found one! Show is fantastic!

I think the show was great! I love football but the the storyline was really good. I like to see that American's still know how to pray! It is so important this day in age. My husband and I truly enjoyed the show. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for putting God into prime time television!
Seeing the players and coaches praying for their fallen team mate was very moving and inspiring. Thank You!

i have been acting for a very long time and i was wondering if there was any way i could be like an extra on the show or maybe if you liked me enough and thought i was good become a regular. i have blonde hair blue eyes short cute what you would picture a cheerleader looking like...im a varsity cheerleader i have lived in west texas all my life so i really know what it is like for friday night football and i love it so if you could get back to me i would appriciate it. thank you for your time

will mack brown appear again in the season.also great show the cameras were great i dont care what other people say.

Who was the opposing teams coach ?

great show, but the camera movement is giving us motion sickness. if u can fix this problem, we will be watching this show always.

Thank you so much! My family enjoyed the first episode and look forward to the rest of the season. Thank you for taking a stand and ending the prayer in Jesus' name.

God Bless You!!!

One of the Best TV Series in the last 35 years. Congratulations this is a "Winner".
It has taken awhile!

What was the name of the song at the end of the pilot episode tonight? It was awesome, just like the show. If anyone knows, please email me at MCammon2801@yahoo.com
thanks

Pete, Great Show! I tuned in at the end, but was captivated. I come from Summerville, SC, where I believe we still have the winningest coast in history - John Mckissick. The show seemed real and very much captured the spirit that we have here in football. Great production style - looking forward to more good stuff!

this goes to jan in high school football the clock starts even after goin out of bounds as soon as the chains move so pete disregard jans two questions awesome show. DO NOT CHANGE IT

I thought this was a live chat...Peter, why aren't you responding to any of these posts? The camera IS too jumpy, no, jason won't walk again, and why didn't the team get to kick an extra point after the second to last touchdown?

The shaky camara was so bad I almost got sick. My wife had to leave the room. Otherwise, I decent show.

Prayer in the show? GREAT

Do NOT change a thing!! Promise?

Great job!

Obviously this subject matter has stuck with you to continue reinventing it. I can see why. It's a great way to explore small-town America in a riveting atmosphere.

Only critique: if you're going to have hand-held cameras, don't have the cameramen "try" to look handheld in most of the shots. Just shoot handheld. Otherwise you unwittingly create some ridiculously cliche'd shooting that draws an embarrassing amount of attention to itself. I'd hate to see you lose viewers who tune out before getting involved in the great drama.

So was the coach of the other team fired immediatly after the game? Cause i was just wondering if I could have the coaching job. I know I could come up with a better deffensive strategy on that last play.

Peter!!!! Shano from Mac dayz here -- movie and tv show are awesome -- knew you & Elwood had it in ya -- email me sometime... kisses

I LOVE IT
characters you can actually care about
finally-- a decent show to watch with morals and heart.
I gave up TV because of all the stupidity of the characters, sex and vulgarisms.
Now I will watch this show.
Thank you!

it was just like any Friday in Tennessee! Great job, and thanks for showing "Real America" for a change. Real families need this show.

There is a lot of testosterone in this great new show, why not bring in some women who are more than window dressing? I like the earlier suggestion about adding some band members and geeks as lead characters. Love the crackle and energy of the filming!!!

Thanks for something really worth watching...action, suspense, love, drama, faith, you have a touchdown in Friday Night Lights. Thanks!

WE LOVED THIS SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU FOR A SHOW WITH SUBSTANCE TO ENRICH OUR LIFE PERPECTIVES---

I LOVE this show! I absolutely love the fact that they pray at the game and aren't afraid to mention Jesus! Way to go!! I support this show 100%! I'm looking forward to the next episode! :-)

I coach at a small town in West Texas. You captured the true essence of the pressure and exilaration of winning and losing in high school football in Texas. Good show.

Great season openner. Glad to have Kyle Chandler back from Early Edition. Awesome to see kids pray in Jesus name for the injured player. We need to show what makes America stong as a team. Blessings!

Great to see someone that has the guts to portray a prayer on a publicly televised show.

Totaly politicly incorrect but GREAT!!!!

Keep up the gret work. The football was real too.

You have captured the emotion and passion we Texans have for this game. I'm 56 and I was 17 again as if it was yesterday.

Great show. Football is just one of the characters. The important lessons will be the life lessons played out during and around the games. I have teenagers so I can really relate to the story lines. I liked the different camera work - it made it seem more real-life than just another TV show. Loved the music! THANK YOU for showing the both teams praying for their teammate. That sends a powerful message. I saw the movie and really enjoyed it. I do have to agree with the viewer putting reality into the TX weather ... it's still 90 degrees here and it's October! GREAT JOB!!

Cool show will he ever walk again? how many more episodes? sad show saw it in some gym

Loved the show!! The quarter back getting hurt and all actually made my eyes water up. The last play was heart pounding. Not wise to run this against Dancing with the Stars though.

As a Texas high school grad who never missed a high school game... I LOVED IT!!! Awsome show! I can't wait for next week. Thanks for bringing back some awsome memories.

dont listen to the haters the show was one of the best ive seen in years you did a great job

I had to go and kiss my boys after seeing the show. Incrediable and makes me proud to be a MOM!

Having lived in TX for several years I can relate to the Friday Night frenzy - nice job capturing the intensity. Did you put the "P" on the Dillon helmets to represent the Permian Panthers of Odessa?

And I agree with a previous post - shouldn't be wearing jackets in September in Texas!

Thanks for bringing some reality and God to prime time. Growing up with and loving the game makes it all the better. Great show.

I think it is great that you did not shy away from the fact that prayer plays a big part in sports, especially football.

I just recently became aware that "Friday Night Lights" was coming to TV. Is it based on the book of the same name (published in the early 1990s)?

I watched the episode tonight and applaud all those involved. The casting was spot-on (thank you for bringing Kyle Chandler back to TV) and the storyline well written/executed. I look forward to the entire season. Go Panthers! :)

I am very excited that NBC is taking a risk with a drama like this. Also, I noticed that they took a page from 1998 Movie Varsity Blues when the states star Quarterback went down they went to their backup Quarterback. I hope the rest of the seris is better than the movie.

Absolutely dead-on.I'm married to a high school football coach and it's a perfect look into the lives of high school football players/coaches.I can tell you there is nothin better than Friday night when your lookin for a win -and Saturday morning when you found one! Show is fantastic!

I whole heartedly agree that Texas high school football provides a fascinating canvas to portray the drama and intensity of high school football...I enjoyed the show, but as a high school, college and arena league football player I think that in all actuality the field scenes are quite unbeleivable and do not portray the actual speed or intensity of a real game. Though the show embodies passion, the football scenes do not depict the same passion and the reality of an actual game.

The shaky camera is very distracting and makes us feel ill. The show was nice but you have to fix the camera angles and the type of SHAKY approach!!!!

By the way. It is great that you have included Christianity into the show. That is real life and that is a huge part of football and our country, no matter who wants to prevent or deny it.

Both of my sons are big fans of football. We love the game. Your show brings the sport to reality. Thanks for making it so viewer friendly.

AWESOME!!!!
Loved the show. I'm so glad Kyle is back on tv. He's a wonderful actor and so good to have him back! I cried the player was hurt and when the team prayed at the end....very nice. Keep the shows coming!!!!

I have to say that this show has brought back some pretty vivid memories for me. I grew up in Toronto and played football at a very football-oriented school. As much as high school ball means to fictional Dillon, Texas, it meant the same to Richview Collegiate in Toronto. We always won and were always expected to. We got all the girls and all the special treatment, but football always brought out the best in all of us. The unpopular guys were your buddies because they were your teammates etc. Friday Night Lights is maybe the best show I have watched this year, save for some of the bumpy cinematography of which I am not a fan. The acting was dead on, the storyline, although predictable, was very intense and exciting. I hope this show lasts because I thoroughly enjoyed it and I cannot wait for next week. Isn't that what good shows do? They leave you wanting more. Awesome show, Peter Berg.

Just to let everyone know the Westerby Chaps are really Westlake Chaps from Austin

This could be a GREAT show. The storyline is all over the place. the editing is horrible. Everything is too predictable. You guys need to find a way to freshen up an old storyline. And get rid of the "crazy camera"! You have alot of work to do but this show could make it if it gets done right.

Liked the show. Background music way to loud,it drowns out dialog in many cases.

Growing up in a family who lives for football and being a Christian...I loved the prayer time and mention of Jesus Christ...its amazing we can put that into primetime TV...way to go....I also loved the narrative made by the coach as he entered the hospital reminding all of us how precious life truly is. Raiders/Colts & Indianapolis Ben Davis Giant football mom!

As a Texas high school ex football player and an extra in this show I cannot express how realistic this show really is. Being apart of the filming of this, I found that there really is no- where in this great country where high school football is taking so serious. Peter Berg has really captured the true spirit of Texas football on and off the field through this show. My hat is off to you amigo!

smash and rigger already back to bein' buddies...come on? we all know smash and that slut are going to hook up. but i watched it nonetheless. need more cast members? i'm from arkansas you can't get more "hick" than that.

Awesome writing, well developed characters, and great football action! Even the game announcers were incredible, they kept the story moving.

Friday Night Lights was a good movie. So I was expecting a GREAT series. I was a little disappointed. Nothing seemed like it fit with the movie. I am from the town of the Permian Panthers, so seeing a sereies coming out was exciting to me! Well when I watched it i felt like it wasn't even based on the movie or book Friday Night Lights. The color, characters, the characters personalities, name of the school, or the town wasnt the same! i wasn't very happy to see all of this change!!!!!!!!

I just watched the show. It is awesome and will be awesome. I noticed that a few of the charactars from the movie are in it. I was a big fan of the movie and will be a fan of this series I can tell. We are big on high school football in Minden Louisiana. My little brother plays for the Tide. Football here is a passion.

This show is great because it depicts the expectations and importance of football in Texas. I have a question though. A couple of years ago, San Antonio Madison was playing Austin Westlake Chaps in the playoffs and one of Madison's best football players was paralyzed in the game. Does this episode reflect that incident?

That was the best thing I have seen on real TEXAS football. GO RAMS Woohoo!!!!!!!

Wonderful piece of filmmaking and storytelling. Congratulations to all involved.

Thanks for something really worth watching...action, suspense, love, drama, faith, you have a touchdown in Friday Night Lights. Thanks!

I just needed to see Kyle Chandler was in a new show, and knew it would be great.

One of the Best TV Series in the last 35 years. Congratulations this is a "Winner".
It has taken awhile!

WOW. I'm am no footbal fan by any sort. But the influences of Man vs. man, man vs himself, man vs his environment is excellent.

This is going to be a HIT. For some reason I know this

So disappointed. Read that it was family friendly. Not so.
The football and the coach's family interaction were the best part. The teen sex and adult sexual comments are not appreciated. Would like to see a truly creative show that does not have to use sex and language in the plot. Is that possible? One other thing...please use a steadier camera. Makes me dizzy.

I was afraid this would be yet another show for kids that they shouldn't watch. I was wrong. What a great show to enjoy with my family. Thanks

Great Job! I grew up in Texas where Friday night football under the lights was IT! This is a great dramatized version of Texas FOOTBALL!!

Excellent show!! Very well done! I love how both teams nelt down and prayed for the injured player. Imagine that GOD and Prayer on TV--go figure--finally. Such a great story line and I am now hooked and can not wait to see the next show to see what happens with the QB> Geat cliff hanger. Can't wait to see more.

The shaky camara was so bad I almost got sick. My wife had to leave the room. Otherwise, I decent show.

One of the best shows of the last decade! Excellent in every regard; writing, directing, acting. My compliments! Keep it coming!

Good Show .. but please slow the cutting down ... too much like West Wing ... hard to follow

GREAT GREAT GREAT SHOW...CONGRATS

great show

great show

Liked the show but the music is louder than the dialogue. My husband and I couldn't hardly understand what was going on in conversations but we will watch again to see if the sound gets any better.

All votes are in from this football family! Yes we will be watching next week! Great show.

terrific!

Texsa Football?

A bunch of red necks getting drunk.

I was a little disappointed with the FNL name going to a fictional town. The same show with another name would be 10x better, but then again you couldn't back it with the movie.

Great Show! I tuned in at the end, but was captivated. I come from Summerville, SC, where I believe we still have the winningest coast in history - John Mckissick. The show seemed real and very much captured the spirit that we have here in football. Great production style - looking forward to more good stuff!

Being a member of a certain central Texas High School Marching Band, I really am excited to get into this show. How can I get more involved in production?

Loved the first show BUT the bull in the ring drill should not be promoted on the show. As a Texas college football player mom I can tell you they do play tough in Texas. Don't encourage other high school coaches to use an inappropriate drill

I noticed this was a pilot and i just wanted to voice my opinion that i would like to see many more episodes. Finnally another show on tv worth watching other than the ones that ended over the summer.

i liked the show!!! but i was wanderin y culdn`t u use the real players like in the movie.and y culdn`t yall use like ratliff stadium?

Great job Peter. Look forward to next week. That's a good thing right?

The show has great potential. It was a little predictable. Reality is even great teams lose in the face of adversity, yes, even in Texas. I think the ending comments were right on target. Is there any way we can get that part of the script? I would like to post that on my kids' walls in their rooms when things don't go their way. We'll be watching every week.

I grew up in Odessa, Texas and played football at Odessa High School in the early 60's. The Odessa Permian Panthers were our biggest rivals. Your show brings back old memories. Thank you.

Just to let everyone know the Westerby Chaps are really Westlake Chaps from Austin

Excellent show. In response to the ignorant athiest who posted saying that christ's name should not be said is a complete ignorant person. This is a TV show and in Texas people worship God and Jesus unlike the liberal east coast where if you say the word "God" in the pledge you are shunned. Shut your athiest mouth and go to hell. This is ridiculous that you would bring something up about OUR Lord and his Son.

Hail Mary full of grace the lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Don't turn your back on our Lord, go to church and do your duty to love and to serve God

I LOVE IT
characters you can actually care about
finally-- a decent show to watch with morals and heart.
I gave up TV because of all the stupidity of the characters, sex and vulgarisms.
Now I will watch this show.
Thank you!

Pete, You havn't showed it yet but I am sure it will come out in future episodes. As a current football coach we have a motto for parents and fans. The are with you win or tie. When you are winning you are on top on the world and when you lose your a goat.

The time frame that this is based on was Randy Mayes the head coach?

I agree, the players do not look like football players--too skinny, too predictable. better mix up the story line or people will stop watching. too much like movie. Seems like you have no where to go from this episode. I mean, its too predictable on field action. next week, game 2. wow, let me guess what week 3 will be. and of course they won, in ridiculous fashion

Peter,
Any thought on doing a womens softball film? This sport is very hot in Texas as well.

Great show! Very real. Speaking as someone who grew up in a football-obsessed Texas town, I can say it's more accurate than I would have expected. Keep up the good work.

Also, I have to agree with Mark and say that the wardrobe doesn't work for September in Texas. It gets HOT down here.

Peter,
I really enjoyed the show real to the story real to the fealing of west texas football the ending was great I think this is a great start to what could be a awesome show

Thanks for bringing some reality and God to prime time. Growing up with and loving the game makes it all the better. Great show.

I have noticed that some people were upset with the praying at the end of the game. My son plays high school football and they pray after the game the same way. You have your opinions and so do we.

The scene of everyone gathering in the hospital was very accurate emotionally...my husband is a wrestling coach & we had one of our boys die last year. Watching this, I flashed back to all the kids who gathered at our house to support each other, and the looks on their faces. Whoever wrote the narrative lines did a great job, also. Kudos on a well-written show.

what a great show tonight. the actors are so real in their parts, and the writing is totally enthralling. at last. . . real entertainment and talent on television. thanks! you've got a hit on your hands.

Wow, I loved you in The Last Seduction! Your acting was supurb. I read that you were the producer and was wondering if it was YOU. Cool.
Good show tonight, keep it up.

I grew up in Austin and played little league football and High School in Austin. Westerbury, Dillon, and even the little league team appear to me modeled after local teams. Do you have any personal ties to Austin?

I only got the last 5-10 minutes so I can't really give my opinion. But I really did appreciate the ending. When all the team members kneeled and gave grace and praise to their God. It made me want to make sure that I catch next weeks episode.

I thought this was going to be run of mill football story, I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't and will continue to watch. Thanks for a show for Tuesday nights.

Hello, was this show based on the high school football team in Odessa? Or was this just where you got the idea for it? Just curious if you spoke with the real school and the team for ideas for the show. Loved the show, it shows how some towns really put extreme pressure on their children, especially with footbal and even cheerleading. Thanks!

Good show, I saw the comeback from the backup QB coming from a mile away but i was still entertained by it. Some of these posts are retarded. ie. what are these lines of wasted space? Cmon... The wardrobe post is very interesting though, how did you guys not catch that screw up?

KYLE you are and always have been a wonderful actor! You're the reason I tuned in ... but the icing on the cake is that the show itself looks like it's going to be great, too!

now i can watch football in tuesday nights. BEAUTIFUL. no other words can discribe what you have created. you have me hooked.

Thank you ever sooo much for allowing me and my school Mccallum to be a part of your show! I hada blast on friday even if i was just an extra, it meant alot to me. thank you thank you thank you! if you ever need an extra email me

A little predictable? Totally saw the star quarterback getting injured and the backup leading them back. So is the backup going to get the coach's daughter now? And is the fullback going to "miss" a block and get the star running back injured?

Great job Peter. Look forward to next week. That's a good thing right?

Hi, I play tight end for the women's semi-pro football for Kansas City. The Kanas CIty Storm. Currently, there are 6,000 women now playing full contact football in 3 leagues streatching from New York to Oakland. Some played on their high school team. We have a women that played on her high school team. She was a starting running back. How about getting a girl on the team who can play and earn the respect of her team mates and the town. Just like our Sarah did. She played just as good as the guys? It would make for great TV! What do you think?

Whoa!!! Speaking as the wife of a retired coach, you TOTALLY captured the world of high school football; and thank you for showing the unity and spirituality of a well-coached team.
I'm giving up NCIS for you!
Congrats!!!

Mr. Berg,
Woulld you be so kind as to explain why you did not keep the setting of the town in Odessa? Dillon, Texas no longer exists and was not even in West Texas.
Regards-
AMF

I loved the movie and am very curious to see just how far and deep you can go with the show. My question, though, is in regards to the soundtrack. Sounds like Explosions in the Sky (just like in the movie). Is it still that group? I'm curious as to what the basis was behind such a low key-modest soundtrack. The movie was not driven by the music, but rather embellished by it, just like the show. Any comments?

Just to let everyone know the Westerby Chaps are really Westlake Chaps from Austin

I read some of the comments when it was just over 150...I think it is the perfect stereotypical football town...I've lived in one! I loved the show; there is lots of room for character development and high school football gives a million possible scenarios...look forward to next week!

This little town could easily be Uvalde Texas, my hometown.
It has the big concrete stadium and every friday night the whole town turns out. The Coyotes have a more than a few championships in their history. If you run out of material for the show, check out zipcode 78801! Love your show!!!! Its REAL LIFE!

I don't know who was tech. advisor but, they didn't know the first thing about TX. football. No where in TX. does anybody need a coat and wool hat for the first game of the season. The average temp in Tx for the first weekend in Sept. is ninty degrees!!!!!

I love football and I love television. This show is good. But did find a couple of things that can be improved. The camera need to be still on scenes that try to capture the viewers emotions. The cuts to comercials are too dry. When the QB was lifted off the field there seemed to be no emotion from the people other than a short clap that you could hardly hear. Football is emotional. Bring us there producer. bring us in to the show. Make us be a part of it. You have a fan.

God bless you and NBC for showing a stadium full of Texas high school football fans PRAYING!!! I'm keeping my 3 and 5-year-old granddaughters, so I only got to see parts of the show, but I'm so thankful y'all are willing to show it the way it is -- or at least the way it was before MMO and the ACLU got involved. Keep up the good work!

Wow, sooo original to 1) have the only central black football player be the loud mouth running back with all the talent in the world, 2) make the star QB a "yes, ma'am, no sir" Peyton Manning clone and 3)name the fullback "Riggins" and have him be the hard drinkin' bad ass with a chip on his shoulder from a broken home. What, no European soccer style kicker?

We loved the new show! Love the fact that you made it real by letting them pray real prayers that reflect real America!

Pete -- as manager of an NBC affiliate I'm proud to have this program on our air. Thank you for an outstanding job.

Al

Was this episode supposed to capture the tragedy that Odessa endured not too long ago? My respects to the family.

Interesting show, my husband and I enjoyed it. What is up with the cameras? If it supposed to look amatuer, then you succeeded. Straighten them our and you've got a hit.

Wonderful! I graduated 05' and played H.S Football in a suburb in Dallas Texas. It was a wonderful portrait you gave. I got the same goose bumps watching as I did playing. I would love to be on the cast! I model and act for an agency from what I hear yall work with in Dallas. "The Campbell Agency" I was just signed. Let me know if your looking for next season or this season. My name is Bobby Lewis their # is 214-522-8991. I would love to be apart of somthing that protaits Texas football like this does. Thank you and God bless.

Hello Mr. Berg! I have just become a great fan of the sitcom! I am the Head Football manager of my highschool football team and I understand and relate to the concept of the show. I think its great!!!! Keep up the great work and thank you again for creating an intense image of high school football.
(i did have somewhat of a personal question to ask you so it would be great if we could email.... thanks again!)

I have noticed that some people were upset with the praying at the end of the game. My son plays high school football and they pray after the game the same way. You have your opinions and so do we.

Absolutely dead-on.I'm married to a high school football coach and it's a perfect look into the lives of high school football players/coaches.I can tell you there is nothin better than Friday night when your lookin for a win -and Saturday morning when you found one! Show is fantastic!

what was the qoute fromt eh end of the show, like about that everyone falls and that you always loose something

The show was spectacular. It reminded me a lot of my playing days. The characters also reminded me a lot of the guys I played with.

Wowwwwwww!!!!!
You are doing a great job, I being looking forward to this day. Thanks and keep up the good work!!

Awesome writing, well developed characters, and great football action! Even the game announcers were incredible, they kept the story moving.

Are you going to show scenes from the Leander vs. Pflugerville game?

A+++ You took what could have been very boring and made it exciting. It is good to see behind the game in a realistic manner. I liked the moral and spiritual side

Try hiring the producer of the show to produce your blog!!!! Great show........hi to Nan from York friends. You're missing a lot of good feedback because the blog isn't working correctly.

BTW, is there going to be an encore showing???

I appreciate the on field prayer and a true family atmosphere. That does not happen often anymore. Thanks for a truly entertaining show.

Hi Peter,

My name is Claude Reid. I am an Actor in Chicago and I enjoyed the show tonight. I would like to know If I can audition for you? Thanks in advance.

I loved the show. It was good to hear and see prayer and God mentioned and depended on. I am proud of a producer who won't let Hollywood stand in his way.Thank you for at least one show on T.V. where this is being done.

Great show!! I first saw this episode on a flight from Denver to Chicago two weeks ago. We were on our way home from our game against Northern Colorado in Greeley. My son plays QB for Western Illinois Univ, and I can really relate to this heartwrenching story. Loved it again.

I read some of the comments when it was just over 150...I think it is the perfect stereotypical football town...I've lived in one! I loved the show; there is lots of room for character development and high school football gives a million possible scenarios...look forward to next week!

It has promise if you hire a cameraman without palsy, after five minutes I had a migraine from the jittering.

Wow! I never watch NBC usually (except the news) which is why it was on, in fact once I realized what channel was on I went for the remote, and couldn't turn it off instead I turned it up....LOVED IT.....LOVED the prayer....had me wanting to see more....I will definitely watch again...is this the regular time and day?

Great show! This show is the epitome of Texas HS football...love it!!!!! I love the camera action. It makes it appear like a documentary. Keep it. It makes it different than everything else you see on TV. Great job!

I liked the show and I am a big fan of football. The ending of the game with the quarterback gettting hurt and in the hospital for a broken neck could have been written about a local high school football player who just 2 weeks ago suffered a burst fracture of the C4 during a game and is unable to feel anything from the neck down. Our community has pulled together from all the local schools from neighboring towns to raise money to help with the mounting cost of his medical bills. The storyline in your show brought tears to my eyes thinking of our local player. It really hit home.

Thank you !! I live the ODESSA Texas home of Friday Night Lights. You have captured the heart(not just football) of west texas. A player from Permain had his neck broken while playing and our town has never forgotten about Joe Bean and the wonder person he is. Again thank you

WOW!! What an awesome show!
Finally, some family television with a good message.I was moved to tears.
Can't wait until next week!
I've never commented on a blog before so you know it hit me! :)

Wonderful show! Excellent writing and producing. Same as Friday night in my home town. Please let the kid recover! TV at its best

I am still wiping the tears. Beautiful show, and I didn't think I'd like it, since I am a chick who doesn't understand football. But I am hooked. Thank you. Thank you. Great work for you, and the cast. You have a new fan...

AWESOME!!! I wish I could live in that town. I was blown away by both teams joining in the prayer for the injured player. How great that is to see. All characters seems so real. I liked the use of the camera. Great cinematography(sp). I can't wait for next week!!

well done! Already has me on the edge of my seat! Can't wait for the next episode. Hook 'Em Horns!!!

Loved the show! For those who didn't come from small town Texas then might not find it realistic, but it certainly is. Did you happen to visit Crowley, Texas when you were getting ready for the show? Because I am pretty sure you did. Brings back great high school memories.

I only caught the last 10 min. I'm looking forward to the encore. I was greatly impressed with the "faith" ending. We need a lot more of that in our tv shows! Thanks.

I'm not from this world either literally (geography), or figuratively (football), but i'm an author, with a sports background, and i think it is very well done--writing, editing, etc. bravo. hope it continues in this classy vein

AWESOME!!!!
Loved the show. I'm so glad Kyle is back on tv. He's a wonderful actor and so good to have him back! I cried the player was hurt and when the team prayed at the end....very nice. Keep the shows coming!!!!

I really enjoyed this show.I am a 47 year old mother of 4 and appreciate the realness this show offered. It was interesting and refreshing to see kids drinking one minute and praying the next. This is real life.Thank you...i am sure lots of "Christians" will avoid this show because it shows things like drinking and kids making out...Alot of secular people will complain about the referances to Jesus.Don't change a thing.I'll keep watching.

The show(game) was GREAT....Hope the weeks to come are as great as this episode was...Looking forward to knowing the cast better... thanks again...

I'm a 30 y/o quadriplegic that play HS football. I missed my senior season after a off-season spinal cord injury. Watching this "show" put butterflies in my stomach as if I was playing all over again. Great "show" or Great story. "Let's Touch GOD!"

Hello Mr.

NBC got a hit on it's hand's.I told my family and friend's to wacth it tonight.

I don't see why you had to make a great movie, with a great soundtrack, and rehash practically the exact same story line, characters, music, "emotions", and cliche' ideas into a TV show.

Oh and the movie Varsity Blues called, they want their
"Oh no! Our star player's hurt and now we have to trust our wide-eyed second stringer!!" storyline to be returned to them ASAP. kthxbye.

you also should've had a more diverse cast - in the original there were many African American players/main characters. In this show there aren't very many.

Where was the hispanic I mean come on, Texas town and no hispanic. NO Shavez this time. Also the writing seemed to be based more for a sope opera than what the movie or book was. What gives?

I'm a sportsmom and my 14 yr old son plays Cornerback on the school team. I'm so very proud of him and the way he plays football. He and I watched this together tonight. Wow is all we could say. It sent chills up me just like in one of my sons games. Thanks for taking the chance on Friday Night Lights you have a winner.

They were right about it should have been hot, hot weather in Texas at the beginning of the season. It's still 94 degrees next door in Louisiana today! :o)

Hi,

I really loved the show! I didn't see the whole thing, but I love it so far. This is a show that all of my friends at school and I would talk about. I'm so happy about the ending when everyone got together and prayed. I thought that was the best thing, because you don't usually see things like that. Keep up the good work!

Great show! But the time slot could be better - there's a lot of us parents with kids who play sports and are just coming home from practices/dinner. 9:00 would be better!

I love it so much - I am obsessed with football movies/shows especially where there is so much emotion and going for the dream. It does have a smiliar plot to Varsity Blues - but it's nice to see it in a more serious format. I don't even care - I cried at the end!!!! And -I LOVE the coach to backup QB scene - that is why coaches are so amazing.

I really enjoyed watching the show it was great football tv. I really didnt know what to expect after seeing the movie. But I really enjoyed the show. Is this a contuance of the movie?

As a photographer who covered high school games in Florida, mom would not have gone out on the field. Look through the photographers lens but I never saw one leave the side lines. But I will definitely tune in next week.

Loved the show -- caught my interest right away...it is a nice change from most TV programming -- great job!!

Hello Peter. You did a great job on the show but Just wandering why you choose not to do in in the citys that this team was originated in? I personally think that it should have been filmed in Midland and Odessa. The doctor that the quarterback seen was from Midland. Why film it somewhere that these things did not happen.

If this takes off you will have changed the way highschool works. You just added style and attention to the kids on every high school football team across America. Welcome to the new "The OC." Thank God.

Great to see someone that has the guts to portray a prayer on a publicly televised show.

Totaly politicly incorrect but GREAT!!!!

Keep up the gret work. The football was real too.

Hi, my name is Paul Smith and I am a broadcasting major in New York who also played varsity football. I think the idea of the show is great but when the Panthers came back to win in the end some of the shots seemed weak and the players and fans didn't seem that excited. The worst shot was of the backup qb's friend and qb's mother after the panthers won. I do believe the show will be successful however but could be improved greatly.

Why the choice to replace the people who did the music on the film with W.G. Snuffy Walden, most notable for his work on Sorkin's West Wing?

Absolutely dead-on.I'm married to a high school football coach and it's a perfect look into the lives of high school football players/coaches.I can tell you there is nothin better than Friday night when your lookin for a win -and Saturday morning when you found one! Show is fantastic!

How in the last series can the team recover in on-side kick at the fifty, then get a first down inside the thirty and then throw a bomb that is caught at the thirty and run in for a touchdown. The show was fun but someone has to help with the football part.

I just want to say that being a recently graduated panther from pflugerville im very proud. I think its awsome that my boyfriend use to play Pflugerville football and his last name is Streeter. I just want to know if you used pflugerville players names and why pflugerville?

I loved the movie and am very curious to see just how far and deep you can go with the show. My question, though, is in regards to the soundtrack. Sounds like Explosions in the Sky (just like in the movie). Is it still that group? I'm curious as to what the basis was behind such a low key-modest soundtrack. The movie was not driven by the music, but rather embellished by it, just like the show. Any comments?

that was nothing like Odessa football. Ya'll used the Joe Bean incident in the show... ya'll better of paid him money for using his story.Scince you stole the tidle you need to get the story straight.and the colors are BLACK AND WHITE!!

This is one of my top ten all-time picks for a great show. what power it has, and it is a family show. great job

great show, but I would enjoy it much more if the camera didn;t jump around so much!!!

a fine show. a very fine show. having lived through the intensity of friday night high school football in dallas texas (not to be confused w/ saturday univ. of texas football or sunday cowboys football) you have captured the intensity and commitment of texans for the game. And the support all towns have for their home teams. best of luck

Quality show. Just like the movie. That wasn't west Texas. Where did you film?

The scene of everyone gathering in the hospital was very accurate emotionally...my husband is a wrestling coach & we had one of our boys die last year. Watching this, I flashed back to all the kids who gathered at our house to support each other, and the looks on their faces. Whoever wrote the narrative lines did a great job, also. Kudos on a well-written show.

I am still wiping the tears. Beautiful show, and I didn't think I'd like it, since I am a chick who doesn't understand football. But I am hooked. Thank you. Thank you. Great work for you, and the cast. You have a new fan...

Peter,
Read only a few comments in here and see that some like and some were disappointed. I'll tell you, I sure wasn't. Watching the "game" had me on the edge of my seat and in the end, it had me in tears. A great show that I hope only improves. Best of luck.

I have been looking foward to this show it seems forever. Great show I look foward to seing again

The camerawork made my wife and I sick. I guess you didn't make this show for older folks, only those who grew up with video games. Good luck with it, maybe it is good. We had to turn it off before we barfed. Sorry.

excellent it reminded me of h.s. and rival with Odessa permian

God and football. Is there anything else? Great show. This is what football in small towns is about. Best,

It has promise if you hire a cameraman without palsy, after five minutes I had a migraine from the jittering.

Great cast, reminded me of Varsity Blues movie. I look forward to upcoming episodes. It's so nice having something cool on tv other than same old reality tv shows.

I enjoyed the show, especially the music. Was that someone playing the guitar or a CD. If a CD who is it?

I'm hooked. I'm sad to say I forget the show was on tonight, only caught the last ten minutes. It was great, I was moved, look forword to next show.

It was a great show tonight, hopefully a start to a great show. It was great that Kyle Chandler's back on televison, He's great.

Sorry, the show made me dizzy, they never let the camera stay still very long.

The show was awesome. I loved every minute of it.

This is a wonderful show!!! I love the fact it shows real life football moments and the emotions that go with them. And PRAYER!!! Wow who knew Hollywood prayed anymore?! I think NBC may have gotten a little more respect.

Great job Mr. Berg. I love the show. They better not cancel this show like they do to all the other go shows. Can't wait til next week!!

I really enjoyed the show. In Texas, football is a religion. You captured that. I have been to games where things like the injury has happened and watched as the players prayed when the game was finished. you captured the essence of the game in Texas!

im in tears ..great show

This is a great show and unlike alot of people I like the hand held camera and people stop being so picky about all the other things and focus on the story, there is alot more to it than football.....I will watch weekly

It was okay. But could have been better. Why didnt you used more of the colors and the teams that were orginally in Friday Night Lights and protray the Odessa Permain like you did in the movie. I find it insulting because I grew up in Midland and Odessa. Yall need to think about what the people there are going to think since it is really based on Odessa Permian.

Excellent Show . You have a hit on your hands. Can't Wait til next week. Thanks for a good wholesome show.

Thank you for a wonderful show with strong ethics, something our young people need so much. It was so refreshing to watch a show where even the youth were praying. I congratulate you on a show that will definately be a HIT!

How in the last series can the team recover in on-side kick at the fifty, then get a first down inside the thirty and then throw a bomb that is caught at the thirty and run in for a touchdown. The show was fun but someone has to help with the football part.

The shaky camara was so bad I almost got sick. My wife had to leave the room. Otherwise, I decent show.

Was this filmed in Pflugerville, Texas. The uniforms, field, and even the band uniforms looked like those of Pflugerville... and the other team looked like the Westlake Chaps. I used to live in Austin, so it actually made the show feel like high school again!

I would like to say how much I love the details of this Texas town. The show captures a small-town passion that no matter where you're from, you can identify with. I love it! Go Kyle Chandler!! And I loved the gritty colors and the scenes where it looks like you're riding in a car. Awesome and somehow lonely, haunting, it made me cry for ever leaving my hometown after high school. LOVE the show... and love Texas

At first I thought, just another football TV show, this time with kids. It really was powerful and very realistic to show how quickly your life can change. One minute playing and the next minute really hurt. One minute on the bench and the next minute a hero. After they won it was great to see how the show remembered to pray for the young man that was injured. Good TV.

is there anyway that the quote from the hospital scene at the end of the show be posted somewhere

I hope you have a winner. I am a 62 year old grandmother and I thought the show was fantastic. I cheered when they made their last TD. I hope that the show is a success. Good luck, you deserve it.

The show is fast, and "hard hitting"....BUT, the camera work drove me CRAZY! It was like watching an amatuer video. It is worse than NYPD Blue. I know you intended this, but give me a break!

Hey, I only caught the last 10 mins of the show tonight and it looks like a great show to get interested in. I have to say I was impressed that you were not affraid to show the teams praying at the end of the game. I hope to see more of the traditional family values that many small towns try to teach their kids. I think that this is what really give them passion.

Show was lovely...have always liked Kyle Chandler and he is just right as the coach. Liked the film style and teh cut back and forth with the injury/game segment. Don't have a feel for all the characters yet, but i'll be back to watch next week. This show and Studio 60 are the best i've seen this year. Keep it up.

Give me a "A"! Give me a "W"! Give me a "E"! Give me a "S"! Give me a "O"! Give me a "M"! Give me a "E"! What's that spell?AWESOME!!!!!!! Seriously, thank you for an excellent show! I will watch this show every Tuesday night! Inspiring!

Even though the whole quarterback injury was expected kind of brought back memories of another highschool football movie Varsity Blues but the show overall is awesome. Texas Highschool Football rules among any other !

Love the way you kept the style from the movie. I'm a huge Southern-born football gal and the way the storyline is moving with the friction between the cheerleaders/girlfriends & football moms and Mrs. Tyler is very reminiscent of small town high school football.
And yes, we all hold hands and pray before and after every game - you will get awesome ratings down here in Georgia.

If tonights show is indicative of the rest
of the season, I'm on board! Very refreshing.

Great job with the show! I have a 14 year old daughter who couldn't wait for the show to start & I thought it would be a "cheesy" show. Was I wrong! We live in Alabama where SEC football is king and this was as enjoyable as watching an Alabama or Auburn game. I found myself yelling "get out of bounds!" when time was running off the clock at the end of the game! I will be tuning in next week!

I liked the show i was surprised that the QB got hurt, but it good to see the backup QB bring the team back. I am looking foward to next week?

We were very impressed with the fact you did not shy away from showing prayer in the locker room and on the field. Thank you for putting a program on that is good family watching.

What an insult to Texas Football and the Permian Panther Mojo Football Program - Odessa, Texas.
What in the Hell is Dillion, Texas. I will not be tuning in to watch this Program again...

Loved the show, but it gave me a headache. Too many camera angles too quickly. I had to make a real effort not to change the channel even though I wanted to watch it. How many angles are needed in a 3 minute episode?

Pete

I've been waiting (it seems forever) for a network show like this. A great debut, sir. All I would ask is that you don't stray too far from the football theme. A great cast, and the cinematic effects are wonderful. A job well done!

I grew up in Texas at these type of football games. It brought back a lot of memories. Great show!

How do you like texas? Aren't you filming in austin?

Hey Otis..lighten up..this is television...and damn good television. Who cares what the camera is doing. The story line was great and the message was a great one. Oh and yes...High school football is that big...And one more thing...I was in Texas once..and it was 100 degrees during the day in late September..but the temp fell pretty quick when that sun started goin down..anyway...great show..I know where I'll be for the next several weeks on Tuesday night..NBC...Again..great show.

What a great show! It brings me back to my own football days. You really caught the spirit of high school football. Anyone who has ever played football or any other sport can relate to this show. I wish there were more shows like this that people can relate to. I'm looking forward to the next show. I'm a fan!

Reminded me of Varsity Blues.....still very good show & Kyle Chandler was great as the top dog lead with a bunch that haven't been seen on T.V. before. Keep up the good work and I'll have a favorite Tuesday show. Thanks Mr. Berg

This is a wonderful show!!! I love the fact it shows real life football moments and the emotions that go with them. And PRAYER!!! Wow who knew Hollywood prayed anymore?! I think NBC may have gotten a little more respect.

I enjoyed the show but the typical "black athlete" portrayed by the running back was horrible. His acting was good but the role he played was not...disappointing.

Great first show! I can see some of "Remember the Titans" but this is a great beginning! Plenty of football and plenty of personalities...this one has all the ingredients! Keep up the great start!

Loved the show. Finally something worth watching on t.v. that the whole family can watch together. Hope you have a long run.

Dont listen to these haters. Keep up the awesome show. Great Job

Absolutely love this show. I am not a person to sit and watch tv shows but this one will really keep my attention. Brings back many, many good and not so good memories of football from a small West Texas town. Football is Life.

Finally, a show that you can watch with your family! Actuallly has a good lesson and how wonderful to see prayer and good manners from teenagers; a very nice change, indeed! Good job!!!

What a great show....i wish thats how people took everything..seriously. Great job!!!And people don't be critical it is still only T.V.!!!!!!!!

Excellent casting with Kyle-the man could read the phonebook for an hour and I'd watch

I noticed that the first episode combined two movies as it had some things very similar to them. Those movies are Varsity Blues and Friday Night Lights. Was this planned such as got ideas from both those movies or just happened to be similar without meaning to?

I really wanted to get into this show, but the horrible shots were more than distracting to me. Professional cameras are really easy to keep steady, I know because it is my major, and I use them all the time. So, I'm rather confused as to why directors & producers would allow for shots of that nature. I think if you really focused on getting new camera people that actually know how to keep the camera still, then this show could be rather good.

is there anyway that the quote from the hospital scene at the end of the show be posted somewhere

Trying one more time to post a comment. Great show! Hi to Nan from her York friends. Too bad the blog isn't working correctly....I bet you're missing a lot of good feedback.

oo ya and i 4 got to mention that it shoudl have been in the same time period there isnt a payton manning and a dr. phil when this accually happend even though it is in texas a bad ass football country im shure it was still even more bad ass then

this is the best premire of the past 3 years. kind of predictable but its football and predictable isn't always a bad thing. this predictable is good. this predictable is real life. you hit the nail on thee head with this one. great cast and crew. new favorite show. wont miss a show. and i thank you for extended the football weekend to a three day weekend.

I think this is a winner. I don't watch much tv but will make sure I make time on Tuesdays for this. With a daughter who has been injured (only minor)playing sports I can relate to the parents in this show

I grew up in Bay City Texas and the Black Cats were my team. I live in North Texas now but I get to see a game every now and then when they make it to the playoffs. Great show - so far pretty accurate in the settings and characters. Good Job Peter. By the way Aspen Extreme is in my DVD collection.

I coached college football in Texas and also recruted there. I really enjoyed the show, it was captivating for a series and I look forward to next week. Wish you the best and I hope this works out this year.

I live in a football city... Copperas Cove TEXAS. the fields are astro truff and we have one of the biggest jumbotrons in the state... for high school football.
I think you captured the way TEXAS views football

The show was great. I knew it would be based on the commericals and cann't wait to see what happens next week. Love TEXAS

This is a great show and unlike alot of people I like the hand held camera and people stop being so picky about all the other things and focus on the story, there is alot more to it than football.....I will watch weekly

Good show with great potential. Interesting characters. I understand your reasons for the bouncing of the camera, gives the feel of being in the "heat" of it all, only problem is many older people cannot handle it because it makes them feel dizzy. You may want to tone that down to keep an older viewing audience watching. Keep up the good work! Great job!

Loved the show. i want commend you on including the Christian aspect of football in America. Whether some people like it or not, the faith is a large part of the great tradition of football.

Even though the whole quarterback injury was expected kind of brought back memories of another highschool football movie Varsity Blues but the show overall is awesome. Texas Highschool Football rules among any other !

Really amazing show, so well directed and put together. A lot going on so it's going to take a few more shows to really get to know the characters. I hope the new QB plays the part as well as the original one and I hope we get to know some more of the defensive players. BRAVO!

Big fan already! Texas is hot, though, this time of year...cut out the jackets and the turtlenecks until late December!!! Peter, I love you! Aspen Extreme still rocks!!

I live in Texas and I have been following high school football for 50 years. The beginning of Friday Night Lights was pretty boring. However, I told my wife that it got better. I hope the continuing story line is better. We need a GOOD series about high school football.

I thought this was an amazing show. Any parent who has had a son playing high school football can definitely
relate to this show. It is true to life in any town. The kids were true to what I experienced with my sons.
Great show...really great!!

Fantastic show!!!! Nice work!! This show kept my attention the entire time! I will "Season Pass" this show on my TiVo forever!

One problem.... the music at the end overpowered the commentary. I could barely here the man talking. I believe it was the coach speaking.

Thank you for such a well produced TV show. The story line is excellent and you proved that a great show doesn't have to have sex and bad language. Thank you also for portraying Christian values in a positive light. I hope that all the shows are as good as tonight's. I will definitely be watching this one on a reagular basis. Wow what a great show and in primetime!

Watched your show tonight and enjoyed it very much hope to keep watching it keep up the good work on this show.

Why didn't you follow the rules of football on the show. The guy ran out of bounds and the clock kept going, and why would the game winning touchdown be cought on the 30 yard line when thats where they started from? Get it right, or leave it to our immagination. I am a football fan and I can't stand that it was a football show and the rules weren't even right.

I had the opportunity to participate in one of the FNL football scene shoots and experience what it's like to make a television show. The end result was good and I thought it lived up to the hype.

If this takes off you will have changed the way highschool works. You just added style and attention to the kids on every high school football team across America. Welcome to the new "The OC." Thank God.

Wow, what an amazing show! I love it! The movie and the book are some of my favorites, and this show is now too. What made you decide to also make the TV show?

Thanks for an awesome show. It was very true to life as a Texas show. Yes people still do pray in Jesus name down here and I thank you for having the courage to show that part. It was refreshing that we did not have to go to FOX to see this. Great show. We look forward to the season. Great family show!!

a fine show. a very fine show. having lived through the intensity of friday night high school football in dallas texas (not to be confused w/ saturday univ. of texas football or sunday cowboys football) you have captured the intensity and commitment of texans for the game. And the support all towns have for their home teams. best of luck

My wife is from Texas and was wondering which town/city your fictional city of Dillon is meant to represent. She thinks that it's probably Permian.

And where it's been filmed.

Really loved the show. Only one problem: It's 90+ degrees in Texas the beginning of September. I think both teams, the coaches and cheerleaders in their turtlenecks, jackets and long-sleeved jerseys would have literally died from the heat.

Great show-- Great blond!

mack brown was awesome, bring back mack

I live in Texas and Friday night is all about high school football (AND BAND)! I have been looking forward to this premiere. The talent and writing is there. But, the hand held photography gives an unsettling feeling to the entire view. Let's leave the fumbling to the gridiron - not the camera man.

Great show; very realistic, although you crammed quite a bit into the opening show. However: long sleeves, gloves, coats and sweaters on everybody the week of the season opener in Texas?? Texas on another planet, maybe. Last week of August, it would be 100F, if you're lucky, and everybody would be wearing as little as possible. Other than that, tho, good show!

Loved the show. Finally something worth watching on t.v. that the whole family can watch together. Hope you have a long run.

Bravo!!! Peter, this show was great!! you do great work and this may be your best to date. whatever made you decide to make the transition from acting to director/producer was definitely the right choice. your other projects have been great as well, but this is really a WOW!!

Life's lessons, proper adult guidance and influence, power of prayer, can't go wrong long term. Great show!

I just caught the tail end of he show. I will be watching the oncore tomorrow night. Thank you for not whimping out on the prayer sequence there at the end of the game.

Keep up your good work. I look forward to seeing the entire show tomorrow.

Ken Jr.

great job - husband ex coach, says you nneed nmore discipline. the media circus is captured so great--the players good -- and the game - exciting! good job and good luck

My father was a high school football coach in rural Oklahoma. Tonight's episode outstanding...and at many times so surreal to watch. In the early 70's, I lived it. Thanks for a quality program.

I don't see why you had to make a great movie, with a great soundtrack, and rehash practically the exact same story line, characters, music, "emotions", and cliche' ideas into a TV show.

Oh and the movie Varsity Blues called, they want their
"Oh no! Our star player's hurt and now we have to trust our wide-eyed second stringer!!" storyline to be returned to them ASAP. kthxbye.

I loved the show, sure shows how a small town pulls together for their team..and glad to see Jesus is the center of the team...Keep up the good work, we need more stories like this for our young people

Awesome show! Thank goodness NBC is back in the "game" again with TV! We just had this story take place "for real" in our town! So, it really hits home... Thanks again! Keep up the great work!

Peter... this show is too dramatized... Your writers must have never played football before, Or they wrote for soaps..

I agree with Mark as far as the wardrobe goes. It's hot in Texas during football season. Also, I am an athletic trainer at a Texas high school and I think you could have done a better job with the spine boarding scene.

Really amazing show, so well directed and put together. A lot going on so it's going to take a few more shows to really get to know the characters. I hope the new QB plays the part as well as the original one and I hope we get to know some more of the defensive players. BRAVO!

I love the cinematography. No offense, but anyone saying the camera is to "bouncy," needs to go watch a PBS telethon.

Sure, it is an edgy approach, but it is a great choice I feel. A frenetic camera style to match what is a frenetic game played on the field.

Since it is the topic of debate thus far, what was the thought process for the shaky camera usage?

I ONLY GOT TO SEE THE LAST HALF HOUR AND I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT. IT'S ABOUT TIME THERE'S A DESCENT SHOW ON TV WITH GREAT ACTORS, GREAT MUSIC, AND A GREAT STORY LINE. TERIFIC JOB!!

I beg you...cast me in this show :)

I never saw the movie but I sure loved your show. Hope you get to keep this "TIME SLOT"......

The story line made me cry and i don't even like football. I guess that is what you were saying in your blog. Love the cinematography, feels so real! Keep it up and see you next week.

Wow! Fantastic show...you even knocked me away from USM/Tulsa on the ESPN2 just to "check it out". Granted I'm a Texas person and I thought this would be hokey at best. Kudos! I'll be back next Tuesday fer shure. Super great show.

A great show! i am looking forward to watching more. I am a football player myself and i love the intensity. Already there is drama right from the beginging and to top it off the win their 1st game home.

What movie are you going to steal the next episode from? This seemed like a shorter version of Varisty Blues. The blonde is not quite as scandalous or attractive though.

Thanks for the good quality values that you have added to the show. However, please, please, please do not take the license to show high school "cool" kids drinking the night before a game. I am a high school coach, and that is the absolute last thing our young kids need to see and be influenced by. Have the courage and decency to resist the temptation to show the "cool" thing and have the moral responsibility to not show that kind of thing again.

Thanks

I want the girls

This is one of the best shows I have seen on TV in a long time. It portrays high school football in Texas just the way that it is. I especially like the way that the Lord is brought into the show as He is a huge part of Texas culture and the praying in the show was so very typical of what I have seen and heard in actual locker rooms and on playing fields all across our great state. I don't know how high school football is anywhere else but they have it pegged in Texas. Bravo! What a wonderful show!!!

You have got to let us know who is doing the music for the show and if it will be available for purchase. It has a fantastic "The Album Leaf" and "Iron and Wine" feel to it. Really makes the moments even more emotional. Please realize that there is a HUGE market for that type of music and that it would sell well as a CD.

First, I am from TEXAS (living large!) I am living in NJ &A HUGE COWBOYS FAN.. AND NOT EMBARRASSED OF MR PRESIDENT...

I grew up in a little southern shore town of Pleasantville. Our team the Greyhounds were pretty special. Our quarterback once played for the Cleveland Browns.

Your show reminded me of our Friday nights.. I LOVED IT!! I cried throughout the show. I look forward to watching this team.. the Panthers.

GOOD LUCK !!!

I'll be watching this show!!

Great show! Very refreshing... It now has a season pass on my Tivo...just in case!

If tonights show is indicative of the rest
of the season, I'm on board! Very refreshing.

my son played texas hs football in austin, so i'm very intrigued, his name is dillon also! they played westlake (who were the westerby chaps in tonights "game"). i was wondering where this series is filmed? looks like pflugerville hs stadium and panther uniforms. i'm presuming UIL rules prohibit using real hs names? loved the book, and so far i love this series. keep it up.

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME T.V. SHOW!!! Can't wait until next week!

I BELIEVE THAT IS ONE OF THE BEST TEXAS FOOTBALL SHOWS I HAVE SEEN, MOVIRS ARE ALWAYS SHOWING TEXASNS AS COUNTRY HICKS. NOT THIS SHOW. KEEP REAL JUST LIKE HIS ONE AND YOU MAKE IT A HIT

I LOVED the show! I like how it was tastefully displayed and you bring the Lord into it. And I absolutely loved the coach's closing words!

good show, sad i saw a preview in some gym.

What a great show. I love that it showed every aspect of the football town. The ending made me tear up a bit but that's okay. I'm definitely going to be watching it every Tuesday night.

Thank you for bring a GREAT opportunity to the Texas film industry. The writing is spot on- and the talent matches!!! Look forward to working with you guys here in OUR great state!!!!

I am so impressed by this show. I loved all the action and photography, but what really impressed me is the way the injury on the field was handled. I am an Athletic Trainer and this is the first time I've ever seen an accurate portrayal in TV or film of how a spinal injury is managed both on the field by the trainers and in the ER. I would like to thank you for giving my profession an honest showing. I will definitely watch this show every week.

the show was great. i must commed u on allowing the prayer to be a part of the show at the end. were u scared of any backlash

Just wanted to let you know, I love the premiere tonight. I see alot of the comments so far are complaining about the camerawork, but thats one of the things I liked most about the show. It makes the show seem more realistic, raw I guess and that adds to the plotline. Great work, cant wait for the next one!!

Great show! You captured the essence of not only TX high school football but HS football in the south! Keep the faith-based parts of the show. That is the way we live down here!

Thank you for the great message at the end. We tend to seek God when we are hurting. It would be great to seek him always.

You know, its a great plot. You should probably turn it into a movie... Ohh whats that? Its already been done? With the same exact plot you say? Wow, how about that.

Excellent show. I was especially pleased to see the coach's handling of the injury and pulling the team together again both as a team and spiritually. The prayer following the game truly captured the spirit I remember from my days playing high school ball. It was ball with heart and spirit. Thank you for reminding us of that and the proper perspective on the relative value of the game and life.

The number 1 player getting injured was predictable. A smart QB does not make a hard tackle like that to sacrifice his career. It was a good pilot episode and I am looking forward to see how this pans out.

I loved the show. It really has a positive message which is so much needed on the air for teens to see. Thanks

I have two questions sir, what defense is that suppposed to be when that is the last possible play of the game. Also the runner is shown getting out of bounds after the first down marker and he was shown going out of bounds but the clock does not stop. Im just asking if you are going to write a season based on football please make it realistic.

Great show-- Great blond!

I liked the show. I enjoyed the little twist. I would have to say though that there was a little too much obvious forshadowing. Final thought? Good show and I will watch every episode and buy the season 1 dvd when it comes out

Finally a weekly show about the Gridiron. This show already started out on a great foot. This is what highschool football is really like not only in Texas but just about every State.

Hey. Must admit, I loved the show. I'm actually living in Round Rock and am proud to see the town on the silver screen. Surprised to see no big guys on the team. Thought everything was bigger in Texas? :) I'm 21, 6'5" 285lbs and have acting experience in the movie Sugar & Spice as a football player. It would be an honor to represent the local city, as a local.

great show, just curious where is the production for the show shot at, what city,

Great job!

Peter, What a great show tonight! I was extremely impressed with the positive way in which you portrayed the Christian faith.I wish you many successful seasons!

how did you pick people for these parts?

If you love the game, you will love the show. If you don't love the show. Then you are not that passionate about football.

Awesome show! This is one series I will follow through..keep up the excellent work.

Loved it but stop the flash shots and moving of the camera so much. That alone would stop me from watching the show ever again.
Thanks

We loved the movie and we really enjoyed the first episode. As a mother of a high school football player in Louisiana I can say that there's not more excitement on a Friday night than watching your home team win. It's somewhat ironic that there are so many football movies that have been produced lately and our boys are living those movies every day of their lives. They practice all summer and every night and on Saturdays for the sheer love of the game, the friendship, the struggle and the victory. They ARE the players in your episodes. Thanks for bringing their passion to life for the rest of the world to see!

This show was great! Like the team, however, now you have great expectations to meet week after week. And THANK YOU for not portraying praying Christians as a bunch of wackos... I hope that respect and realistic representation remains throughout the season.

What I seen tonight I really enjoyed "Friday Night Lights".

I always been a fan of football.

It brings back memories of high school football games.

Thanks for getting the show a "Green Light" from the studio.

Robert

Wow, great show. Great twist and amazing ending. I have to agree with the viewer that pointed out the wardrobe discrepency. Texas does not typically get weather cool enough for jeans and jackets until mid-October (I know I live in Austin, TX). Besides that -- loved it!

Excellent pilot. I think I am going to be a fan.

Great show... Good scripting... Some of the talent could use a little help but other than that I think it shows a great potential... I look forward to seeing more.

This show was amazing! I cant wait to see the next episode. I am a football fanatic!! Our highschool is simply amazing, may I say the least. This just makes my love of football even more intense. I live in a small town with a high school of 700. Now if we dont have a love for football then I dont know who does. This show really tells the story of how it is out on the field. How that not every team consists of brothers, but enemies. Yet they work through the tough things and make themselves better. This show it a favorite to me. I am so glad that someone made this. Its amazing. Good Job!

I like the show, but as the mother of a high school football player and a college player I don't find your players believeable. They don't look like football players. They aren't muscular. They look more like a track team.

Show was way too predictable - foreshadowing of backup qb when throwing through the tire. I'm from TX but live in MA now - I don't think anyone outside of TX, FL, or CA will understand. It's 100 degrees in Sept. in West TX but everyone's in sleeves in the show? I do look forward to the next show though! Mack Brown's comments were not amusing, com'on!

Two words: VARSITY BLUES...

I loved the show, sure shows how a small town pulls together for their team..and glad to see Jesus is the center of the team...Keep up the good work, we need more stories like this for our young people

Have you happen to been to TX. in late August/early Sept. early oct. for that matter? It's hot, real hot, like want to die hot. You are covered in sweat just standing in your front yard sorting out your mail. The coach would have lost 17 lbs. and possibly died in that jacket. The players in the long sleaves would have died.

Excellent! I'm impressed by the prayer! I didn't know anybody in Hollywood actually knew what a 'real' prayer might be. I hope you don't turn the guy into a hypocrite, That's what Hollywood ALWAYS does.
Keep up the good work.
Best thing NBC has going.
Since tday has spewed yellow journalize with dim witted Marilyn Veria.

Have you ever watched a football game before? If the running back runs out of bounds in the final minutes, the clock stops.
If you're going to produce a show about football, try to learn the basic rules of the game.

GREAT SHOW...I AM A 55 YEAR OLD WOMAN WHO LOVES FOOTBALL AND I AM AS FAR AWAY FROM TEXAS AS YOU CAN GET..NEW JOISEY..BROUGHT BACK THE EXCITMENT OF MY YOUTH AND TOUCHED MY HEART THANK YOU

I just caught the tail end of he show. I will be watching the oncore tomorrow night. Thnk you for not whimping out on the prayer sequence there at the end of the game.

Keep up your good work. I look forward to seeing the entire show tomorrow.

Ken Jr.

Do you need another football player? My son's just graduated from Mason High School in the Texas Hill Country-- he was all district for the Mason Punchers- he weighs 128lbs and was unstop-able. They called him "the flea" because they said he was all over the place and they couldn't catch him. He's got a baby face and is a Texas native so the drawl wouldn't require any actin'.
:)

Love every second ofit. Finally a show I can watch with my grandchildre and not be affarid of what they hear or see. PLEASE, PLEASE KEEP IT THIS WAY AND KEEP IT ON FOR SOME TIME TO COME

The show makes me feel the passion I use to feel 20 years ago in high school.

I enjoyed the first episode. I will hold off saying this is a great show. Most first episodes are good, it is what follows that determines a "great" show.

great show

I just want to know how come the show "Friday Night Lights" is on a Tuesday night and not on Friday?

I want to pitch you something. Can we meet when you're in NYC next? Sorrry to do it here, but having trouble finding an agent. Good idea, no bull...not a twentysomething here. I think you'd get it, and what it can become, both on and offline...if you want to take a risk, e-mail a contact.

That was a great show it brought me chills and made me cry when he got hit and didnt move. keep up the good work.

We loved the show, and believe it or not some people take HS football very seriously......Great show, hope the rest of the episodes are just as good.

good show mix between varsity blues and the movie friday night lights

I was Truly Moved by your work. Thank you for your truthful look at humanity.

Peter Berg, you sold out

Great show tonite. You've got a fan. I can't wait until next weeks show. Is this based on the movie at all?

I LOVE THE SHOW!!! I really loved having God involved!

Wow! Fantastic show...you even knocked me away from USM/Tulsa on the ESPN2 just to "check it out". Granted I'm a Texas person and I thought this would be hokey at best. Kudos! I'll be back next Tuesday fer shure. Super great show.

Was the point to be like the Movie? I see a cross between FNL's the movie and Varsity Blues the movie... So far, I've seen it all before. When does the story line advance to something different? Like, real football issues?

Fantastic show!!!! Nice work!! This show kept my attention the entire time! I will "Season Pass" this show on my TiVo forever!

One problem.... the music at the end overpowered the commentary. I could barely here the man talking. I believe it was the coach speaking.

God I miss highschool football!

I was glad to see a tv show not afraid to use the name of Jesus at the end of a prayer.

I LOVED THE SHOW! MR BERG - I must tell you that it felt as if I was part of that town while I was watching. It had a real-surreal feeling to it. As if I had been part of it all along. It's wonderful! Congratulations!

I thoroughly enjoyed the show. It was very realistic, but it also emphasized the importance of character, values and belief in God that can get you through tough times. I applaud you and keep up the good work. Excellent show!!!

Great show. Great format. Great camera angles. A sure hit. All the best.

i was also wondering why the actors were wearing jackets... aint is summer??

I feel this will be a fantastic series. I read the book Friday Night Lights when it first came out and loved it. The movie was ok, but not as good as the book. I feel the tv show will be even better than the book

Excellent pilot. I think I am going to be a fan.

This show is brilliant!! Heart warming, serious and true all at the same time...Obviously could not have premiered at a better time!

One of the Best TV Series in the last 35 years. Congratulations this is a "Winner".
It has taken awhile!

WELL DONE!! I was screaming, "GO! GO! GO!" Like I do when Clemson is playing. Way to orchestrate a heart stopping game!! Kyle Chandler is PERFECT as the coach: Driven, thoughful, cares what happens to the guys, to the game, and to his family. GREAT MIX!

My wife and I don't know if this show was good or bad. We heard good reviews so we started watching. The camera jerking around was making us both sick, so we had to turn it off. I guess you didn't make this show for people over 40, only for folks who grew up with video games. Good luck with it, maybe it is good, but I'm not going to get myself dizzy again to find out.

liked the show Needs to show more HEART!!!

WOW, I was just amazed... Thank you for bringing not only a great show about High School Football, but thanks for bringing the Lord Jesus back to prime time.... God Bless you

Excellent show and very realistic. It brings back memories of my High school fotball days.Keep up the good work.

Was that Mack Brown in the opening ...????

I am a big fan of your work and I was not disappointed tonight. As a high school football mother- I loved it and I am looking forward to next week.

Ok, I have complained to NBC about some of their shows before, so this my time to say 'great job!' It is a story that is so 'real' in so many rural areas of the country - not just TX. Thanks for showing the guys praying for their teammate at the end -- it was so refreshing to see that on NBC!

This is reality in small towns and large alike. Great Show! Looking forward to the next episode.

hey this show is about team i love the show im reading the book and i seen the movie what i meant about team is that together everyone achives more team helll of a show keep it up and on

I played high school football in tennesse. It was exactly like that. All the intensity and all the drama was captured very well. You're doing a fine job, so don't let anybody sway your method of directing. Kudos.

Hi Peter,

My name is Claude Reid. I am an Actor in Chicago and I enjoyed the show tonight. I would like to know If I can audition for you? Thanks in advance.

I want to pitch you something. Can we meet when you're in NYC next? Sorrry to do it here, but having trouble finding an agent. Good idea, no bull...not a twentysomething here. I think you'd get it, and what it can become, both on and offline...if you want to take a risk, e-mail a contact.

best show on tv can not wait until nest show great job nbc for airing a show like this

I think that this show catches what it really was like to be on a high school football team. Just watching the show reminded me so much of my own high school football experiences. Many people do not realize the pressure that is put on the players not only from the coach, but also from a town, and especially small towns. Great show, and thanks!

First time I have seen the show and right away liked the players. Good cast from what I can see. It's also a nice change of pace from all the reality, and cops or hospital shows. Keep up the good producing! I will be back for more.

Rick from Naperville, Il.

I live in Texas now, previously Georgia. It's high stakes in TX, and it's our religion in GA. Why didn't somebody make this type of football TV show before?! - I LOVE IT! Continue to sell the drama. Awesome job to director, writers, cast, and everyone at NBC.

I'm hooked! I missed my Dawg fix this weekend (GA) but your show made up for it. Count me in for the season!

Thanks for creating a show that keeps prayer and God in light!

Good show.

Thanks!

KUDOS! What an awesome show about relationships through the eyes of football. We need more of this kind of television! Thank you!

I played Panther Football in Pflugerville, TX. I want to tell you that I feel like this show does an excellent job of showing not only what Texas High School Football is all about, but also what Panther Football in Pflugerville is all about. Thank you for bringing to the world my town and my team.

Awesome... the thrill of a small town pulling for their own.. unless you are a parent with a child on the field you cannot understand the feeling!!!!!!! fANTASTIC.. kEEP IT UP!!!

This show is was amazing I loved it,I am looking forward to next week

i loved it,reminds me of my friday nite football games you have a great show keep it up

I LOVED the show! I like how it was tastefully displayed and you bring the Lord into it. And I absolutely loved the coach's closing words!

I've never felt so nostalgic towards high school in my life. I laughed, I cried, I remembered cheering on the sidelines, kneeling when a player got hurt, watching the hail mary, waiting in the ER for the news. Thank you. I never saw the movie, but I don't plan on missing a single episode of the show. Thanks for the memories. You nailed what the Firday night lights are about!

I enjoyed the show and will be watching new episodes. However, the part about the referees calling captains to the middle of the field with 3 minutes left in the game would not happen. I've watched Texas HS football for over 30 years, and the ref would have just walked to each sideline to deliver that message to the head coaches, not call the captains to the center of the field. Otherwise, great show! Just keep it believable and don't insert scenes that would never happen in a real game.

Excellent!!! Very well written, superbly executed! Totally captures the spirit of small town Texas football and brings back lots of memories. Keep up the good work!

Awesome show, love the book by Bissinger and loved the movie as well. I like the actor playing the head coach. I thought Billy Bob was descent, but this guy would have made a much better Gary Gaines.

The shaky camera was making me ill early in the show.

Nice show. I'm a big fan of Peter Berg - really love "Very Bad Things". The movie Friday Night Lights was great also. Some of the sound mixing seemed a bit rough - some of the dialog was hard to hear but overall a good start. Really, anything about football is ok with me and the personal stories seem interesting. Can't wait to see how it all develops.

I can't believe how this show hit it!

It was what it was back in the 80's, even though it's staged in the current.

I was a Bulldog -out of Midland, and I think in my senior year we played the Panthers.

It didn't really matter, High School Football was a matter of city identity, and pride.

I was just a player on the marching band, but we shared the same city pride, and devotion.

Football wasn't just a game, it was a virtue, and the team represented everything that the city meant.

Wow, the pilot hit it on the head.

I agree with the flaws with wardrobe. That was really a big mistake. Great show, I hope it gets better as it goes along. And as for football being big in Texas...YES, you can't compare high school football anywhere else! I wish the real schools could've been used. (Odessa Permian and Westlake)

It looked like you used shots from actual high school games, did u use shots from real games for the show as well?

as a division 1a football player myself who plays on the defensive side of the ball i would love to see that side of the field in upcoming episodes...is this just the flashy upside of the game as most movies and other tv shows portray or will the gritty down and dirty game that i love be implemented as well?

One of the Best TV Series in the last 35 years. Congratulations this is a "Winner".
It has taken awhile!

I loved the show! Is coach Taylor a fictious character or is he a real person? I had the privaledge of playing for the real coach Gary Gains and he was a remarkable person.

Loved it but stop the flash shots and moving of the camera so much. That alone would stop me from watching the show ever again.
Thanks

Need to remember Texas HS football begins with HOT weather..but you did get that MOJO football was a very serious thing and that HS football in TX is serious business...thought Mack Brown got to get out all his frustrations by talking like he has been talked too.
Didn't think I was going to like it...BUT I DID!

i really love this show. i'm a huge fan of scott porter. I'm really upset because i was really into it but i got up for a little while and came back to jason street being pulled away on a stretcher. Can anyone tell me how he got hurt?
it just said that there will be an encore tomorrow, i guess i can catch that part then

I loved it!!!!

Another typical story, the star player gets hurt and the team rallies to make a come from behind win.

Wow! What an awesome, wholesome show! Thank you for bringing it into our homes!

Love the way you guys twisted the script, this is one football show that seems not to be predictable, bout time I love it

Peter, you are a better story teller tha you are an actor...and I really liked you as an actor. We are a Nielsen family and you will get my votes every week!

Great show!! I truly hope to watch many episodes in the future.

great pilot episode. I think this show is going to be a hit.

Not a big fan of the hand held. The rest of the show was great. A little lose in spots but great overall.

That was a awesome show. It took me back to my high school days. I went to a small school in Texas and we had some stories to tell. Great job.

I loved the show but probably cause I'm from Westlake, the opposing team featured. I loved the short cameo of Coach Long and the mention of Coy Aune. I'm also wondering if the story line of Street has any links to the real life story of David Edwards?

Wow! I grew up in Texas -- Houston, not exactly a small town, but you got it. I'm blown away. An incredible job by you and the cast. Here's to a long run for all of you.

Hi Peter,
Great show! Thanks for making my greatchildren stars! Can't wait till next week.
Love,
Auntie M

Why is the show called Friday Night Lights when it has NOTHING to do with the book?

I thought the show was AWESOME.

did you think about the severity of the injury and what it would make people feel like that have gone through such an injury. coming from someone that has been through a spinal chord injury i belive you went too far.

and being from texas i know that this is based of the permian panthers....how are you going to change their colors from black to blue?

two thumbs down

I was glad to see a tv show not afraid to use the name of Jesus at the end of a prayer.

This is reality in small towns and large alike. Great Show! Looking forward to the next episode.

hi all i think you down a good job pouting a new show on nbc needs more shows like this

Peter - Excellent start to the season. Look forward to seeing how the story arc is played out.

Hey Pete, i luvv the show i saw half of it n its soo good, i hope this is the begining of a new start with Friday Night Lights, u are a genuis and the show is outstanding,Email me or write to me if u can ok, Good luck and God Bless

Good show, loose the accents though, they're horrible. Other than that, you've captured the intensity of Texas high school football.

SUPERB!

Please Pete and NBC, don't drop the ball (no pun intended) on this one...keep it solid. If you can keep the intensity and the drama then I can keep my wife from watching another show on at the same time about a mother and a daughter....can you guess which I would rather watch?

Good Job

P.S. My wife likes it too, it's a winner.

I have never seen this show but I loved it. It was so refreshing to see something that has a true story line and the praying, wow!! I'm going to let my kids watch it next week. Keep up the good work it was great and heart felt.

The actors are all far too old to be playing high school kids. Or they look too old, anyway. I can't claim to know their real ages.

The background music is very nice. It sounds like Mogwai. Maybe a low-rent version of Mogwai? Whatever, it's pretty good.

Ditto the weather comment. New England football, maybe they are dressed like that. Not Texas.

The coach's daughter reminds me of Elisha Cuthbert, with that same potential to be annoying a la Kim Bauer. Please don't make her like that.

I think this show has a lot of potential with good production. It is an excellent canvas to work with.

Congrats on the premiere.

great show if you need some great inspirational music for your show check out wearei.com great new rock band that will fit in with your show. I am part of the management of this band and feel the music will bring somethign to your show, please take a look and contact us with any questions

serisously, this has already been said, but its really really really hot even in september, especially in septemeber. i felt like this show was taking place in minnesota, not texas. texas football is really hot until about the last game of the season... not accurate at all!

Great show. Hi to Nan from her York friends. Too bad the blog isn't working correctly........you may be missing a lot of good feedback.

Too much has happened in just this first episode. would've been better if street would've played a few games first, then have him get hurt. They also should've lost the first game, not have the 3rd string just come out like a champ right away.

I LOVED THE SHOW! MR BERG - I must tell you that it felt as if I was part of that town while I was watching. It had a real-surreal feeling to it. As if I had been part of it all along. It's wonderful! Congratulations!

I work for a cable company that covers high school football games on Friday nights.

Awesome show..you've come a long way since the "Great Whit Hope"!!!

EXCELLENT SHOW....mom of a high school football player who is now a US Marine. Watching this show made it seem like watching my son all over again on the field. Keep it going, most definitely will not miss an episode!!!!!

I love the show...I hope everyone will keep watching...

Great show tonight. I can't wait until next week. By the way... Is the show based on the movie at all?

Loved the real feel with the handheld. Texas football is the true meaning of football and I will be here everyweek

1972 PHS alumni here - Mojo Country of Odessa, Texas.
Why didn't you use the real town who REALLY takes their football serious?

You really need to show that on the show.

excellent job with the show. i was true to the movie and events that happened. why have the head quarterback get hurt in the first show?

My son attended MoJo in 90/93 and the colors were black and white. Why are the colors the team is wearing blue and white? For the most part the show is true to life. We were and are now true football fans. We did, and do live for Friday night Lights........ Makes me miss those days........ Go Odessa Texas..... FOR EVER!!!!!!!

Pete - fantastic premiere. In your opinion, why do you think there's such a focus on Texas High School football over the other states in the U.S.?

I love the idea. I think a 2 hour premier would have been a great way to start. We hardly got to learn about the charactors. It is not too late. Plan a 2 hour episode to get us really interested!

You have restored my faith in NBC! I was about to give up on this network, with the crummy shows I've seen in the last year, but after catching the last half hour of this show, I'm a believer again! Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing a team praying for their teammate--this is what we in small town America do!
Awesome show!

Loved it. We texans do take our football that serious. Give us a hint about next weeks sow.

A prime-time tv show with a christian prayer... way to go... thank you for showing how people come together in time of crisis and pray.. to God.

the music in the show is by a post rock band called Explosions in the Sky. THey are awesome. I highly reccomend "Your Hand in Mine."

I think the show is pretty good, decent plot line and characters. The only thing that is bothersome is the camera work in my opinion. It was a little shaky and after a while it made me a little dizzy. Otherwise I enjoyed the program.

Great show, look forward to next week. Need more drama! This was a great way to start it off by having QB get hurt. Very eager for next week! Keep up the good work!

I couldnt help but notice glimpses of Hutto Hippo Stadium and the names, like Chaps, that is the Westlake Mascot as well, the home stadium also resembles Pflugerville Stadium, how much of this is filmed in Central Texas, great show.

Thanks for creating a show that keeps prayer and God in light!

Good show.

Thanks!

Was the qb paralized

Enjoyed the show until the hospital/medical scenes... which I found too graphic. I cringe whenever the cuts went to the operating table, and hope that sort of graphic detail would be left out in the future... otherwise - good - not Grays Anatomy good - but not bad!

Our family LOVED it. One of the best new shows on tv. We will never miss it!

Mr. Berg...

You're a very gifted writer/director. It's about time someone brought football/realism together in a wonderfully character-rich atmosphere... that will only get better and stronger as time goes on.

Awesome show...I loved it! Finally a show worth watching, this is definately a show NBC should should keep.

One of my good friends who played HS football in Texas broke his neck the same way.
Very very touching and realistic- it was tough watching but seemed very real

Loved this show!!!! You felt the emotions and had chills! Keep up the good work and can't wait till next week.
GOOD JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW, I was just amazed... Thank you for bringing not only a great show about High School Football, but thanks for bringing the Lord Jesus back to prime time.... God Bless you

Why is the show called Friday Night Lights when it has NOTHING to do with the book?

I was wondering why rules for highschool football in Texas are different from everywhere else. The big one was why when the player went out of bounds with 7 seconds left the clock continued to run? From what I know of football when you run out of bounds the clock is suppose to stop.

Peter, great show. I'm 44 and played hs football in FL and it was just like Dillon. I've enjoyed your acting but you've done a great dir/prod here. usa today was spot on.

Thanks for an awe-inspiring show. It really makes you stop and think. This has definitely won me away from NCIS. Thanks NBC!

Yo I love this show I think that it is the best sports and football show ever made. I love football so I will be watching it every Tuesday night.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!!!

Im in the video industry myself. I just wanted to say that everying even down to the editing was phenominal. I played football in high school and I would say im a tough guy, but once everyone took a knee on the field I coudln't help but cry... seriously... great great job!
Best of luck in the future,
David Schertz
1031Pictures

I loved he show. Absolutely wonderful!! Looking forward to watching these characters develop. Thank you for brining us this quality program!!!

P.S. Mack Brown did a great job! Hook Em!

What a disappointment! I am dizzy from the wild photography! You ever heard of this thing called a tripod?? I lived in Texas for 12 years, not everthing is so damn serious. I have been to most Longhorn games for 20 years, fun times! This was a dizzy bore!

Wow what a shocker, you have real imagination, the star player goes down in the first game (cough cough friday night lights, cough varsity blues) Whats next, does the old quaterback's girlfriend put on a wip cream bikini for the new QB?

Hi Peter,
I've written to you in the past in an attempt to see if you would be so kind as to read my spec scripts and consider me as a writer. I'm an NYU grad student. Even if you have no scripts assignments available, I'd truly appreciate a recommendation to your agent. But, if not that, congrats anyway on a wonderful new show. And your lead, the coach, really is a wonderful catch. They made a mistake bombing him to death on Gray's Anatomy.

I loved it!!!!

We are getting ready for a BIG game at our school this weekend and this just added to the excitment! Show was good!! And yes to one of the other bloggers they do take high school football that seriously even here in Maryland!

This show is brilliant!! Heart warming, serious and true all at the same time...Obviously could not have premiered at a better time!

was there any thought to not having them win the game?

Great start. You avoided some of the obvious cliches and drew some characters that promise to be complex and compelling.

Keep up the good work.

Yes i have a question did you take some of the show from the movie friday night lights? because alot of stuff i seen i reconise from the movie

Thank you to the producer and to NBC for airing such a good wholesome show that our kids can enjoy with us and thank you for the prayer at the end and how wonderful it was to see real life and real problems and how they turned to God for help. That is what we all need. Thank you and great show!

A great first show. It will be interesting to see how you top this one! Great interaction and plenty of action. I just hope you remember it's a high school football show...plenty of football and plenty of show.
Great ensemble cast, too! This show has all the ingredients!

did u base the show off the movie and will it follow the same line but the show is good even though it seems like u copied the movie ex the jerseys and the p on the helmetsand and their team name the panthers

Unbelievable first episode. I'm hooked. Great job Pete!!!!!

A very great representation of TEXAS football! I really hope that other people around the country that doesnt live in Texas can understand the religion that we have down here, depicted in this great show.

I watch Two A Days ok who was first this is same show to me??? I have to say I think would be great if more realistic in the sense it falls reality then is ruined by bad acting....tonight cheerleader crying bad bad acting... but story is good I am honest and prefer Two a days more realistic.

you had a blooper, after the panthers recovered the onside kick they ran a running play and the player ran out of bounds but the clock continued to run down and the players had to hustle to the line to get the play off.

Peter - thanks for the prayer on the field at the end of the game. 'Bout time somebody recognized the values many of us honor. Great show - good luck.

Keep this show on TV...prime time...
What a refreshing change to evening TV shows...!!!Great job!!JS

As someone who loves football, especially Texas football, and craves good drams, I have found the program that meets my needs. Thanks for a magnificent job!

It was awsome the way you put God in this show. I was so impressed

Good Start - as a high school football player in Georgia and a Division I-AA in SC the early 80's I enjoyed watching the show and brought back good memories... Look forward to see how the season plays out.

A great show that has even bigger expectations!! I hope it only gets better, but the only problem is the camera jumps around way too much, the shows over , but my headache will last a while

good story line but just like alotta people said, too bouncy with the camera. some of the music is cheesy too. and if anyone missed it there's an encore wed. night at 8 e.t.

I think it is an excellent show. I now realize why i looked forward to friday nights while in high school during the fall

Wow, I have to say that the in motion work is great. I loved football in high school so much and it's great to be able to "have it back". One request: more marching band! Just a great show, thanks so much.

It is so refreshing to see such a great family show. We need more shows such as this.
I am sure it will be a hit.

I am an FCA Huddle Leader in a Georgia public school. What a blessing to see someone who really understands what families are looking to view on television. I think the show was TREMENDOUS, and although some may be asking about the quarterback, that is life. Life happens.... Great job and all the Glory to God!

I've never had a show about football make me tear-up. Good job! I loved the pilot!
I was an extra Friday night, and it was an awesome experience! Thank you for filming Texas football in Texas!

It's been a very long time since I've been really moved by a television episode -- not since the first 3 seasons of West Wing. This was so terrific that I got chills at the end of the show. Bravo on everything. I loved the camera work, the music, the characters, the actors -- Connie Britton -- what a class act. I'm looking forward to much more of this show. It was like a combination of a great TV show and a movie. Can't express how much I enjoyed it. Are you the same Peter Berg that was in that ski movie, btw?

thank you - enjoyable even if a little predictable...and keep the prayers commin'

Pete - in your opinion, why do you think there's such a focus on Texas High School football over the other states in the U.S.?

I would love to be on this show, I love football, acting, this storyline, and would love an opportunity to cast for this show. How can I tryout? Just need a chance to to prove it, tell me how. Great show!

I'm a high school official in south carolina and loved how you portrayed sportsmanship. it is a great lesson for all to learn. The book was great!! my favorite and it appears this series is living up to the book

Could you exaggerate the stereotypes of Texas towns any more than you did?

Gutwrenching excitement. Excellent show. Can't wait for Friday Night Lights Season 1 on Dvd. Excellent show Mr. Berg

Intense show and high school football as I remember it. Yes it is that intense for football and high school sports! I loved the cast and I believe like other shows it will grow and mature into a special TV series.

im sry but i didnt lik the show i thought it should be just a little bit more like the movie although i do like that the way the camra shoots it all shaky is the same and most of the side little things but again with the quarterback getting hurt and not more or a booby miles figure i just dont lik it

the above comment about wardrobe is spot on. even if it were cold enough in Texas in early September to wear sleeves, you'd see the steam coming from breath and heads

I graduated H.S. in Texas in 1988, the era FNL was written. A drill team officer, I was at every football game all four years. You captured everything, the bus over the back fence, the texas flag on the pole, the fans in absolute silence when a player was injured then applause when he leaves the field, under his own power or not. I don't know how this show will do across the country, but it will absolutely kill in Texas. Thank you, this show, the look and feel, the way it was shot, feels exactly the way it felt (and still feels) being at a game. It is a gift.

I was glad to see a tv show not afraid to use the name of Jesus at the end of a prayer.

Much of the music is by a band called Explosions in the Sky from Austin, TX, a fantastic instrumental band.

Will their music be used throughout the series or just the premiere? Also, why did you decide to use "Remember me as a time of day" as much as you did as opposed to mixing some of their other work? "Remember me" is a great song, but I was just curious...

Im in the video industry myself. I just wanted to say that everying even down to the editing was phenominal. I played football in high school and I would say im a tough guy, but once everyone took a knee on the field I coudln't help but cry... seriously... great great job!
Best of luck in the future,

good use of music but as someone else pointed out, the shaky-cam thing is very annoying. If you've got a good story/acting/music...it's just not needed. I actually turned it off for a while. I was getting a headache. Otherwise a good start!

luckily the opposing team's D didn't have anyone back on the last play when Dillon needed a TD--pretty realistic. Also, at least have the backup QB be able to throw--he's like a girl. Truly horrible. I'm sure it will be a hit.

Great story line, but way too much music. It was so LOUD, it was hard to hear the dialog. Hope it was just for the first episode, becsuse I would like to continue to watch.

That was a great show it brought me chills and made me cry when he got hit and didnt move. keep up the good work.

keep in exciting and not predictable!!!!! that will keep me watching for weeks to come!! great show!!

I love the show. My brother is a big football player and a receiver in high school. I go home and watch the games everyweekend. He is watching it to. He says it is very emtional seeing the lights every Friday. Anyways, please do not make the main character paralyzed, it makes the show like a lot of show. Not all football players get hurt.

If this takes off, it's going to change the way highschool works. Here's to a new OC. Thank God.

Loved this show!!!! You felt the emotions and had chills! Keep up the good work and can't wait till next week.
GOOD JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The show was great!!! I like the game!!GO STEELERS Very Very Very good. I have no idea what else to say. Good going!!!

I am a high school football coach in Ga and have never come accross such a mild mannered head coach. Where is the stress and pressure?

Great show! Thanks for representing how it really is (at least in Louisiana, like Texas) and for not being afraid to show prayer as part of the plan.

Also, I have always thought Kyle Chandler was an awesome, talented, and gorgeous actor. If you ever need a young man to play his son, I teach an 8th grader that looks just like him!

Thanks, again, for an enjoyable show!

I've never watched a game of football in my life, in person or on TV. I watched this show for Kyle Chandler. But I must say that as that final, winning ball soared through the air, I was thinking, my gosh, this is beautiful. It was a beautiful, sweet show, and I loved the prayers and Chandler's performance. Thank you for this amazing show and for opening my eyes to the gritty beauty of the game and the people who love it.

alright, so im from a texas town similar to this, i liked it overall

very nice job capturing the atmosphere of the small town football, i liked the different types of personalities represented in the team, represents a good cross section of the community

bravo.

I live in the town of the stadium(pflugerville). It was weird seeing all these scenes from a field I played on as a middle schooler. There are lots of scenes from hutto and surrounding areas too.

Are the doubles, who are actually playing the game, former college players?

Two questions....Why not Permian? Was there too much controversy over the book with Permian? And the opposing coach looked a lot like Andy Reid of the Eagles, who was it? I guess that's three questions...

I really enjoyed the show. I can't wait until next week. Good job.

Ive honestly found my new fav show..keep it coming

Could have been a great show - in real life there is a amendment to our constitution that calls for the seperation of church and state - prayer in school and at school activities is illegal - using Christ name also alienates your non-christian viewers - WE will never watch your show again!

peter that was one of the best shows that i have seen in a long time and i hope that there is going to be more to come nothing that i have seen better puts high school football together and real life better than this show great job!!!!!!

Was it the movie Friday Night Lights that inspired you to do this show or was it just the pure excitement of true Texas High School Football that did it?

I grew up in Texas and you could name this town almost any town in Texas. It is spot on, especially the older guys giving their 'opinions'.

Great ending. Who was the music? Explosions in Sky? This is a great fall Series. This is a football fans "tv show" the only critics are those who have something against football

great show, but the story line skips around too much to make sense of anything. the game scenes need to be more dramatic and more drawn out. Good Show tho!

I just wanted to say that any show that have prayers, I give it 2 thumbs up, there should be more. keep it in.
thanks

One of the best shows i've ever seen. Why not Odessa?

I usually watch television while I'm at my computer.

The show made me move my keyboard, put my feet up and give it my undivided attention. Very well done. I'm a fan. Thanks.

I love the music by Explosions in the Sky, as others have mentioned. Please use their song "The Only Moment We Were Alone" in an upcoming episode. It would be perfect.

I am so impressed with the integrity of this show! It's very refreshing to see a "wholesome" story that many can relate to. Also, the prayer with all the players at the end of the show......thank you!! Finally someone is standing up for Christians everywhere! Other shows have freely incorporated violence, sex and anti-God themes. It's about time a show was created that is pro-faith/God! You have a faithful fan now! Excellent job!!

Great show. Watch the loud music and background noise, as it sometimes interfers with the dialogue.

Loved the show, love the cast, love the story, but had a hard time watching with all the camera movement. Made me dizzy and kinda sick. Other than that it would be a smash hit!!

Was that UT's Coach Mack Brown in a cameo appearance?

great pilot show pete, realistic , compelling and loaded with greeat young and older talent

Excellent pilot. I'm think I going to be a fan.

Excellent...Excellent...Excellent! Keep up the good work. I will watch it!

I loved the show. It really had a positive tone. This is really needed for today's teens. Thanks again.

Amazing show. Everything is just as it should be for Texas high school football. At the show's conclusion, the players huddle in a prayer circle. I appreciate the braveness of the producer for allowing, "In Jesus's Name..." to be said in the prayer. When we played in La Marque (on the coast), that simple prayer always meant so much.

Did you see Kyle Chandler in his other roles or how did you go about picking him for the role of the coach?

This really takes me back to high school ball the enormous pressure placed on your shoulders by a whole town or city to win.

Great show---Music is a bit overpowering and "I" have hard time hearing what is said-----Again, GREAT!!!!

Show was great, just want to make sure that you keep that amount of football in future episodes.

Wow! I missed my Dawgs this weekend but you gave me my football fix. I'm hooked!

It's James in the House!!!

Great Show. Started off strange but it drawed you in to watch.

Great show!!! This is true Texas footbal. You feel like you are there. It could be football in any high school in America.

Best new show of the season!! This is really how it is in our little town where football is a religion.

I played football in school and your show hits the mark, brings back that old blood rushing through the veins. keep up the good work

You've got a fan! Great show. Very engaging.

i thought the show was pretty interesting because it was filmed at my school in pflugerville, those lights blinded my neighborhood hah. the game was based off of the pflugerville vs. westlake game

did u base the show off the movie and will it follow the same line but the show is good even though it seems like u copied the movie ex the jerseys and the p on the helmetsand and their team name the panthers

Great show. Really good start, especially keeping somewhat true to the movie Friday Nite Lights, but without all the sex.

The actors are also well portrayed in their respective parts and differing personalities.

A kudos on the after game prayer for the injured player, and the mention of Jesus Christ in the prayer. I came into this show hearing that it was going to involve the usual football player stereotype, but was pleasantly surprised to find a solid football drama that I know will capture more viewers as the weeks progress.

Great Show. I'll be a regular viewer...Didn't pick up on the wardrobe until I read the comments.

I like the show a little lot but I believe you jumped into the regular season too soon should have started with two a days.

I played ball for 13 years and this show is exactly as I remember the spirit of the game.

Wow what a shocker, you have real imagination, the star player goes down in the first game (cough cough friday night lights, cough varsity blue) Whats next, does the old quaterback's girlfriend put on a wip cream bikini for the new QB?

LOVED IT!!! Brings back great memories!!

Fantastic! Keep up the great work.

Did you see the movie Otis? It follows roughly the same format...and that's what makes it great!
The camera work, filmstock (no longer film, in this case digitial) caputre the essence of the movie to a tee.

The character development is also apparently going to be very well developed. I am anxious to see the coming weeks of this series.

Football Friday nights is one of the fondest memories from my high school years! Loved the show and can't wait to see it next week!

Why is it Dillon. It shoulda been Odessa. Cmon now. It was on tonight and yea thye wear long sleeves in the sumemr at Texas

Combining Varsity Blues and Friday Night Lights...not very original if you ask me.

GREAT SHOW!!!!!!

Absolutely, fantastic episode. The best premier of any new tv show I have seen in years! Abolutely gripping..I could not take my eyes off the screen...you had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
Congratulations!!!!!

It looks like you used both Friday night lights and Varsity Blues as a basis for the show. Was this intended or just coincidental?

Excellent show. Very well done. Good action, good range of emotions. Looking forward to an interesting season.

hey i have a question what happended to the qb is he paralized???

Great Show! Makes me wish I was 16 again...

The show was another example in TV excellence! What made you adapt the first episode to follow the film so closely? Any special guests on this season?

Good show. Will he play football again?

Simply awesome show!!!

You made me an instant fan.

Suggestion: Introduce some of marching band characters into the storyline - I was one of those "band geeks" in high school - they are also in those Friday Night Lights like the football players.

I love the show! It's refreshing to see the football players praying in the locker room and the field on primetime tv. Thanks for my Tuesday night cry!

Hello,
I have a question about the pre-season scene from tonight's show (10/3). Why were the players wearing long-sleeved shirts in pre-season? Pre-Season is in the summer and regardless of locale, it's hot. I am thinking it's because you filmed in the Winter and it was cold for the actors. Is this the real reason?

I didnt like it that much now i play high school football and the who show felt more like a drama then a school preparing to start a new season. If you wanna make a good run start showing more football then the high school drama.

Excellent show, and while the direction may be an issue long term (as can the editing) given that it's very filmic vs. tv -- not that I mind but clearly there are people here who do -- the look of this show was excellent.

My only question is how the season will play out? Will we see the football season the first half of the year and the off season the second half (which can be an issue for the football crowd unless they get invested in the show quickly)?

Otherwise, great job.

Wow, that was a great show. I don't really like football that much, and i really liked it. Where are you finding so many great actors.

I dig the show its pretty snazzy. AND! the music=good. Can't wait to find out what happens next!!

The show was great!!! I like the game!!(GO STEELERS) Very Very Very good. I have no idea what else to say. Good going!!!

Was the QB Street named after James Street who played for Texas in the 60's?

So far I feel like I'm reading the book all over again...can we expect something new/different?

Very good story line. You have a winner. Reminds me of small town Friday night. Nothing in towns matters but FOOTBALL.

Peter, i played for westlake my senior year 2004, you really did capture the emotional experience when David was hurtt in our playoff game against s.a. marshall

Nice show...noticed a couple of taping inconsistencies...the last drive where he dives out of bounds is on the scoring side of the fifty yard line, yet when the next play is snapped, he is back behind his other fifty yard line...did you notice this?

Outstanding show. It just ended and I can't wait till next week. Brings back a lot of memories playing for an Ohio state champion team in 1967. Loved it!!!!!

what happened to odessa? Its like a half rip off of permian?

I am still crying. That was a very good show. To make it better, I would suggest incorporating the dancing Indian midget boy into a future episode. Maybe he could be the coach's illegit (sp?) son or something. Anywho.. good luck with the show!

I love the mellow music that ran all through the show. Can you tell me what/who it is? It really added a lot to the atmosphere. Thanks!

I gotta say I liked the show but I really wish you guys had done a better job of being accurate with it. First game week in Texas isn't going to have people wearing jackets and all the leaves off the trees. Also, in the final drive of the game...when a player goes out of bounds like "Smash" did the clock stops. I guess you don't expect the average viewer to notice this but if you're going to do it do it right.

I like it, just seemed a little like Varsity Blues...with the QB getting hurt and the underdog having to step up. I knew that was going to happen because they payed so close attention to the backup's life and friends and grandma.

All in all though, good stuff. I think the Coach should have a little more enthusiasum...or fire..but that might just be how he is written in that way.

I'm stupid for writing even this much so I'll stop now.

that was a very good first eposide! i love football and it was soo much realism to it,keep up the good work

If you are from Texas, you might agree with me that the show does really display how serious Friday night football is taken in Texas. I remember living in a small town (Stephenville, TX) and seeing 90% of the town at the city stadium on Friday night. The other 10% was sick at home :)

just wanted to say hi... "hi" p.s. my wife loves the show

Thank you ever sooo much for allowing me and my school Mccallum to be a part of your show! I hada blast on friday even if i was just an extra, it meant alot to me. thank you thank you thank you! if you ever need an extra email me

first night i've seen it, and suprisingly for not being a huge football fan i was captured by the show. i enjoyed the hue on the way it was filmed. a little dark but you pulled off the way it was filmed very well. congrats on a hit show!!!!!

Great show. Would you happen to have any job openings?

I just wanted to say that any show that have prayers, I give it 2 thumbs up, there should be more. keep it in.
thanks

The show is perfect! Feels just like the movie, which is hands down the best football movie ever.
Peter did your cousin help with the TV script?

Outstanding! I loved it and when he threw that game winning touch down I got goose bumps all over as if I were there and it was real. Very realistic and great story line. Build on it and stay with it. Your right on!

This show rock!!! Who saw that coming??? Did anyone have any idea that the backup quarterback was gonna win the game?? Woooaaahh! Great Show! BTW, did anyone else see Matt Damon's cameo appearance? I thought he played a fabulous dumb best friend. Wonderful.

hot

unrealistic

EXCELLENT SHOW. Mat Greer was GREAT. WE ARE ALL WATCHING IN EAST TEXAS. Great Cast, great story, Love the Young cast and story line. Keep up the GREAT WORK, we'll be watching EVERY TUESDAY. LOVED IT!

Peter. very moving show. I actually was watching the show over the Yankee game and I live in New York.

My daughter is a cheerleader for a Texas High School Team and this is hitting home. This is much more than a sport to these kids, and the familes. I hope this continues to come out in the show.

is this based on the photo book done about 25 years ago on Texas High school football? GREAT SHOW! It draws you in

Fanstatic show ! It truly lived up to all the hype !

congrats on the pilot. i like that many aspects of the movie were maintained by with room for originality. i also love the fact the soundtrack is very similiar. i look forward to seeing how Street comes back into the plot if at all. just would be surprised if he didn't being the star quarterback. i LOVE the culture of texas high school football and wish the rest of america would get outside their bubble and see the rest of america.

GREAT show, loved it!!!!!!!!!

The show is phenomenal. I don't usually indulge in these online chats or anything, but I have to tell you, you're producing an utterly fantastic show. I was moved to tears tonight. No way this could have been better. Keep up the great work.

Great show!!! I loved it. I'm hooked, can't wait until next week!

I only caught the last 10 minutes but had to say keep up the good work. I can grow to love football - but I already love stories about the human condition.

Already saw this...it was called Varsity Blues.
Good looking popular QB gets hurt and the underdog comes in and saves the day....how original.

Great job on the show! Keep it up!!!

AWESOME JOB!! cant wait for next week! thanks!

Awesome. A little predictable but who cares. I thoroughly enjoyed this show and look forward to next week

first of all if he got out of bonds the time would have stopped, that didnt make sence to me, and is every episode going to be where they almost loose and then come back and win becaus that can get kind of boring

One of the best shows I have seen all season... finally a show that shows some ethics for viewing of the youth, Great Job!

Anyone who has seen the movie should know that this style, with the cameras, the music, and even a few of the actors/actresses are all inspired by the movie. I don't mind it all, and I will watch every Tuesday from here on out.

Peter, why the change in the team name and city from the true story? How close will this show mirror the movie? Are you going to try and add more drama to give the show some off field depth? There was too much football in the first episode to keep people interested. you got to develop the story line off the field

Peter Berg, I love all your work. You always bring a real human touch to everything you do! Congrats!

Great show, well done..

i love this show it was heartfelt and moving it really made me think if the people in this world can come to gather like that it will make this world a better to u peter wonderful job on a great show

Where are the hispanics?? This is in Texas, majority Hispanic.

This was a good episode however when capturing the on field action the camera should not be so close up. Especially on that last hail mary play, it should have been a wide shot cut to hospital of other quarterback showing the irony of the situation then cutting back to him throwing the ball from a wide perspective. Overall good though however the alcohol and some of the sexual content is not necessary in my opinion.

my daughter is in the a&m consolidated high school drumline (college station, texas). your crew filmed at one of their games. can you tell me when that particular show will air? i'd like to record.....

Love the show!!! This story is reality at it's best

Wow! What a show!!! You guys did a fantastic job of showcasing TEXAS football and all the emotion behind it. Great job. I'm hooked and I can't wait til next week.

Good TV

great/real life story line. i have worked in a school system in piedmont NC for almost 30 years and you have depicted the "feel" for "community" as it relates to high school football. this show will be a winner.

the show is all some thx nbc for poting on a good ass show

Great Job! Very nerve racking and intertaining...what more can you ask for in a show?

Love Explosions in the Sky... perfect choice

Do you plan on focusing on any defensive/special teams players at all through the season? Also how would the second season play out . . . like would the seniors graduate and we get a new crop of ball players each season?

thanks

Great Show!

excellent coaching staff. they are believeable and real.

Why didn't the clock stop when Smash ran out of bounds? Was it just to add drama? I hope you get the rules of the game right on the next show.

PB:

Loved it. They sure do take football seriously in Texas. Like Scots and their shrubbery.

Congrats.

Amazing! I didn't breath for the last 20 miniutes of the show. I only saw that much, but if the entire show is like the last 20 mins NBC is back on it's way up to #1

Sop bouncin the camera around it does NOTHING for the show other than make you not want to watch it.

The show seems good and has potential.. but needs to be a little more original. First episode was kind of predictible going hand in hand with the story line of the movie.

I love the raw look of the show. It makes it seem real.

I think you guys should use "A Poor Man's Memory" by Explosions in the Sky for the show's theme.

varsity blues ... ring a bell?

This show is just a repeat of the Rock Island football game three weeks ago when a young man actually suffer a burst C-4 Vertebrate in his neck and as of right now is paralyzed from the waste down. All of the stuff shown happened to that young man, emergency surgery and everything. We are all praying in Rock Island that he will get better. I just want to ask all of you to keep this young man in your prayers. Thank you.

Awsome show. Most series aren't as interesting as the movie, but from tonight's show, I know you've got a hit.

i was just wondering if the show was based off of the movie?

You captured it. Those wonderful fall Friday nights in small and large towns all across our great state. Texas...like no place else!

Go RAMS!!!!!

Seems kinda like I've seen this show before or maybe it was a movie....same plot??? Although the show did catch an interest from my wife who hates football

WOW!!! NBC does it again!! Your show is awesome!! I am not a big football fan, but I found myself rooting for the team!! I literally cried like a baby when the quarterback was hurt!! How did you get inspired to approach football from such an emotional perspective?? Not just men knocking each other down, but I see them as people woth feelings! I definitely give it two thumbs waaay up!!

I hope Street or whatever the qb's name is isnt paralizied cause thatd ruin a great job but the whole qb getting injured was very predictable considering u have a back up qb character its like every football movie

Our family LOVED it. One of the best new shows on tv. We will never miss it!

An Odessa Permian Alum here saying "well done"... can't wait for next week...
Thanks for a great show,

Absolutely fantastic show! I've been out of high school over 20 years and your show took me back to those days of Friday High School times. I can't wait until next week to see the next episode.

FINALLY! What a great show. As the father of a 15 year old Cheerleader I really loved the show, the directing and the message!

Great show hands down, i like it, i cant wait until next week

Great show hands down, i like it, i cant wait until next week

I really enjoyed the first episode, it was fantastic. Good job....to you, Ms. Aubrey, and everyone else involved!

Not really sure, but Street even though hurt badly, is the show leaving it open to him maybe making a come back?

Great show thanks for the hour of entertainment

that speech at the end, can someone let me know where I can get that or see it? I have just lost someone in my life and that was a perfect thought for me to think about.

Keep up the good work, great show

I love the show. It is what football, high school football is all about. I played in Iowa and those memories were brought back. Great show. You now have a devoted fan!!!!

Quarter back got taken out to fast, but I really love the show!!!! I cant wait untill the next one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ohh man its already lookin good.
i love it.
FOOTBALLL!!!!

Already saw this...it was called Varsity Blues.
Good looking popular QB gets hurt and the underdog comes in and saves the day....how original.

Why did the show start off with such heartbreak, is he paralyzed?

Amazing! Gives me chills, i can't stop watching!!!

Part of football is the halftime show is the drill team and band.
Show moree ! =]

Glad to see God brought into the show. It's seems many shows that have a Christian theme are short lived. Will you be able to withstand the heat from the far left and maintain the Christian theme througout the series?

hey i play highschool football if u need a player extra ill do it for free

thank you so much for making it okay to be a Christian in America in 2006

i really like the show man i can't wait for next week!! i will more than likely purchase the season when it comes out i think this is going to be a very interesting thing you have going!!

just wiped the tear from my eye. great show.

I absolutely loved the show, but i have one question, why is a show called Friday Night lights on a tues, there isn't a damn thing on tv friday night's why not move it to fridays? please please please?

Not a big fan of the handheld camera here. I got a headache after a few minutes of watching the show. Just about everything else was perfect.

Might be a good idea to try some different camera techniques. The handheld camera works well when used appropriately, but this is just overdone.

thanks and good night :)

Is Street paralyzed??

Loved it, love football, it did remind me of "Varsity Blues" and the movie "Friday Night Lights" put together though. Regardless, will watch next time

:)

Seems kinda like I've seen this show before or maybe it was a movie....same plot??? Although the show did catch an interest from my wife who hates football

Amazing! I didn't breath for the last 20 miniutes of the show. I only saw that much, but if the entire show is like the last 20 mins NBC is back on it's way up to #1

Great show!

I think the show was excellent! Good storyline etc great show

is there anyway i would be able to get an internship at NBC....im really interested in film and i am majoring in it at college. i really enjoyed the show and would love to get some hands on experience with producing

i was just wondering if the show was based off of the movie?

Awesome! I am a mother of two and I'm more of a Desperate Housewives watcher, but this show is terrific and will be added to my line up!

I was wondering if there was anyway of getting the quote at the end of the episode when the coach is talking while they are all in the hospital

The show is awesome coming from a small town in Texas aint nothing like highschool football. A new hit on T.V.

Great show. Love Texas High School Football and love this show.

PB:

Loved it. They sure do take football seriously in Texas. Like Scots and their shrubbery.

Congrats.

I love it, from Puerto Rico

GREAT SHOW!!! (and I don't watch much tv. The review in today's NY Times made me curious--and they got it right! May you be on for a long, long time!

After having missed a year of American TV (living in London without a television does that to you) I have found my new show. And I'm not even that huge of a football fan.

Girls are Hott...Who are they? I saw the QB injury coming.

Good stuff tonight. Keep it up!

I was very interested in how you would very the show from the film and still make it 'palatable'. You pulled it off in grand fashion! Take a bow!!!

So far I'm really liking the show. Could you please work in a storyline where some of the cheerleaders kiss each other, cause that would rock!

WELL DONE. GOOD SHOW!

Just wanted to compliment you on your style of shots and for lack of better word grittyness you bring to both the film and the tv series best of luck

stevie

Football is a way of life for me. I was incredibly impressed by how your show displays the incredible passion, spirit, and joy of the game!

Well done!

cinematography reminiscent of the film, same crew?

That show was on point, cant wait for next week

Are paying royalties to the writers of Varsity Blues for stealing("borrowing") the story line????

Being a big fan of the film of the same name I must say that the show captures the feel perfectly. I love the camera work personally, it gives the show a unique feel as the film did. And on the plus side, no slow motion...and for that I am highly thankful. See ya next tuesday.

PS. Great choice for the coach, I loved Early Edition.

Great Show really enjoyed it. Look forward to seeing many episodes.
GREAT JOB!!!!

Mack Brown cameo? How much did he get paid? The NCAA should look into this.

hey the show is awesome y did u have the Q b get so hurt in the 1st show

Good Show is week. Congrats

The quick edits give the show energy, like you're in the game. I for one appreciate the style.

Wow! I grew up in Texas -- Houston, not exactly a small town, but you got it. I'm blown away. An incredible job by you and the cast. Here's to a long run for all of you.

The 1st episode remainds me of Varsity Blues.

Hey put me in the show.! great actor...if you need extras or anything get at me.

You Gotta Hit!!

excellent show!!!

I really like how you used music from the original movie. Is this show going to play out like the film?

Using music by Explosions in the Sky couldn't have been a better move.

Is the new quarterback going to get laid more now that he's the starter?

I'm glad the QB got hurt because he was headed to Notre Dame. It was good to see that it will hurt their fictional recruiting class. He gone!

i couldnt watch the first five minutes of this show. sorry, it had so much promise, but enough with the teenage drama. sadly football is meaningless to a lot of us.

will he ever walk again?

WOW thats all i have to say. What a great show. Keep up the good work.

Where's the music from? Awesome.

Another TV show with a decent story line ruined by disjointed, hand-held horrible photography. Dump the hand-held close-ups. The photographer is too jittery. Also, the story line is told in such a disjointed fashion you never know what the heck you're watching. And there is so much unnecessary backgound "noise" you can't tell who is saying what. Make it simple if you want to sell it. This is television not an "art forum".

I think this show is wonderful. The cinematic and raw scale of the show were captured perfectly in this episode. I really hope the rest of the episodes are like this.
I love the handheld camera...it adds so much to the show.
And the widescreen format is also a good choice. I'm guessing this film was shot for HDTVs and transferred well, but anyone with a regular TV will just have to suck it up and watch the letterbox version

I didn't get to watch the show tonight b.c i had to work... but i really really wanted to see it and want to know everything that happened so i can know whats going on next week! Someone please please tell me. thanks.

I had no idea anyone took High School Football so seriously! I mean it's high school!! Imagine what might happen if you put half of what you put into football as you do into your education system!!

The coach for the other school looks like Andy Reid...

Somebody in wardrobe really "fumbled" here. You're showing the beginning of the school year and the first game of the season, but the players are wearing long sleeves, cheerleaders are wearing turtlenecks, and the coach and most of the fans are wearing jackets. Hello! This is supposed to be Texas in September!!! It is over 100 degrees for after-school practices and over 90 degrees for nighttime games! Don't you guys remember all those instances of TX high school football players dying because they were overheated or dehydrated? Everyone should be drenched in sweat!

The production style of the show is different - especially for TV. Is this an effort to make it look "filmic"? What exactly do you do to get that look?

Why Dillon? Why not Odessa?

my t.v isnt workin so i saw the first 15 minutes and it seemed pretty good so far. wat happens at the end of the show?

will there be a football game every week? (i don't love football but i love this show and the characters).

I can't seem to get into the show and I'm like one of the other viewers the camera is bouncing around too much

Why not use real Texas towns? Maybe a little Plano vs. Mojo?

The actor that plays Riggins - is he new to TV? Where have I seen him before?

Did you play football in HS?

Might be a really good show, but both my wife and I cant watch it because the camera is jumping around so much. Also you put the lines at the top and bottom and that waste t.v. space.

do i need to see the movie to get the show?

the actors all look a little older than high school age, but that's ok because they're all pretty hot.

how did you cast this show? did you have people/actors in mind or just character types? are you involved in the casting on every level or do you leave that up to the casting experts?

bring back early edition!!!!!

this show is going to be a big hit...i can sense it. it's got that all-american sensibility to it that most people really relate to. can't wait until next week!!!

What’s it like working with so many young actors?

The show is half way over and I love it.

Peter: Which do you prefer, television or film?
