When NBC approached us about participating in their “Green is Universal” night we’d already been discussing the idea of a blackout hitting Chicago and how that would affect the lives of our characters working at a County hospital. It seemed almost obvious that we could use our dramatic “blackout” story also as a way to underline the effects of global warming, and the need for being environmentally responsible.
So what will you see?
We’ll have Chicago’s overtaxed electrical grid going haywire as a result of a severe unseasonal hot spell and the ensuing mess of critical patients that flood the ER. The ER also gets a visit from a handsome energy consultant who suggests energy-saving ideas for lowering County General’s environmental footprint: task lighting, the importance of swapping in more efficient CFL bulbs. (His visit may also prove fortuitous as he finds himself “dimming the lights” with one of our characters by episode’s end.) And lastly, you’ll get the first look at the futuristic and environmentally minded smartcar as it rolls in for a cameo very early in the episode. When you see the smartcar, you’ll understand just how small a carbon footprint it leaves.
The EPA’s Energy Star program was generous with their time and expertise as we went along, even though busy saving the world by educating hospitals and schools, companies and consumers about responsible energy usage. For them, every night is green night.

good site!
I have just finished watching the Feb. 4, 2009 episode where one of the featured stories was about one of the founders of emergency medicine at the end of his life. Even though this was a "story" I had to compliment the writers and actors on their honesty and integrity with which this was presented. Emergency Medicine is indeed one of our best advances in medicine and those founders of this specialty are still with us although as your episode does show we are losing some of these amazing people. This was a wonderful episode that gave everyone a glimpse of how this specialty came to be and the importance it plays in our lives.
For some reason my last post was posted 4 times!

Thank you..
Having just seen "Heal Thyself"; I wanted to say that this episode should win a few Emmies!
Dramatic Content, is obvious. The emotional factor was on overload during this episode, and extremely well produced. Which naturally leads to a well-written Emmy as well.
I really liked how they explained Angela's character's back story, so we finally have an understanding of her behavior in previous ER episodes this year. It really put her character in context, and clued us in as viewers.
Best Acting for Angela Bassett, who I felt did her best work so far on this Series. Her vulnerability, pain and toughness were perfectly performed.
And for Anthony Edwards as well. He did an amazing job reprising his role as Dr. Greene, and fit seamlessly back into the program. Watching him on the screen again seemed so normal and familiar, I almost forgot he wasn't a part of the show anymore. That was an almost flawless performance.
And let's not forget an Emmy for the most obvious techical feat, Editing. That was the best cross-cut editing I have ever seen in a TV show. It was exquisite and precise, most noticeably in the trauma room scenes when Angela was going back and forth from her past to the present. Excellent job.
ER is surely outdoing itself this Season. That episode had a depth and fluidity that really stood out. If it doesn't pick up at least a few Emmies, I would be very surprised.
Great job everyone--keep up the outstanding work!

I'm sorry ER is comming to an end. But its so good to see Dr. Green and the rest come back. I believe the first years cast (Clooney, Anthony, etc. ) were the best. Thank you for alot of great years. I just wish Nela would have found happiness.

I am a forever fan who is quite saddened the show is ending. After last night's episode introducing Angela Bassett and some new interns, surely a new cycle can begin. That would be amazing. If not thanks for a smart and sensitive show.

I just have to say that this is a show that I started to watch with my mom and I watched Every Episode, I can't believe how GOOD it was, and I Can't believe that its ending. I am not talking to my mom now and Watching the show alone was harsh...But Real. Thank you to all the Amazing writers and producers, and especially the Actors and Actresses. You made my last 15yrs Great. I am glad I got to be part of your Family.
Good luck in the future.
I want to thank ALL you past & present actors for such an amazing job on ER these past years! (what will I do with my Thu. nights now?)
My emotions were "in check" on Thursdays! I laughed, cried, screamed, maybe even had an empathy pain or two! (LOL)
I have watched since episode 1, and have been mesmerized by the storylines and messages each week! never a dull show!
I hate to see it end, but good luck to you all in your futures. KUDOS for a job well done! and THANK YOU AGAIN FOR A WONDERFUL JOURNEY!

Here's a new idea.
1. Neela finds out that her marine doctor husband wasn't killed in the bombing but survived and was held hostage by the rebels, he is finally released and returns to the US to complicate her new relationship.
2. I would like to see Dr. Carter and his love (Kim) return from Paris with a new baby some brief drama. like the baby needs some type of operation, even if it's only one episode.
As ER draws to a close I understand there is a plan to get back the old team together in some way, so here is my wish list.
Bring back:
Noah Wyle and Thandie Newton, lets see the conclusion of that unanswered question (did they get back together?).
Hi everyone! Well, we're definitely excited to see some new ER episodes this season. And don’t mean to appear as a "hater" or anything but I had really hoped to not see Gates back on anytime soon or at all. I was starting to get used to Ray and hoped he was a bit disappointed when he got in the accident, but Gates is annoying and it makes me gag every time he comes on screen. Seriously though – I LOVE everyone else and hope they stay on as long as possible but Gates, in my opinion, needs to be cut by the execs and he’s a waste of the writer’s and Director’s times! Sorry John but you’ve never been a favorite with me nor other ER fans that I’ve talked to. =
I think you should do an epi. with luka, abby and joe in croatia it would be really cool.

PLEASE end the miserable existence that is ER and cut its life support! This show has existed for way too long! I stopped watching many years ago because all I ever did when I watched it was roll on the floor laughing or scream at the tv because of some idiot's medical reference. Ignorance is not bliss. Your medical "accuracy" is non-existent. Mind-numbing foolishness! Please, please, please, releave us of the miserable existence that is ER!!!
Going Green is Universal is to 2007 what Get High on Yourself is to 1981. Both were, at best, feeble PR campaigns by NBC in order to get rating that were desparately needed. History, I am afraid, does repeat itself.
Memo to David Zabel.....
DUMP THE WORTHLESS 7 SECOND SOUNDBITE THEME AND BRING BACK THE ORIGNAL THEME!!!!
Is Linda ever gonna do the board
As you can see, most of us LOVE Maura Tierney's acting and Abby's relationship with Luka.
They storyline is not what we spected, at least not me. I never thought that Abby would cheat on Luka, it's not right, Abby and Luka are supposed to be together, so I hope you made something up to ix that, because if you don't, you might lose some fans: you lost roomies by taking Ray out, you are going to loose many Luka fans and I hope you don't loose Abby's and Luby's fans.
Hope you apreciate our opinions, because we just want to have ER until it's 30 season!! xoxo kmilenda13@gmail.com
I too was so disappointed with last weeks story with Abby. I agree as others have said, her friends would never have left her like that. As many mistakes as Abby has made in the past, I think that this character would not have slept with him. Like someone else said, maybe shared a kiss.
Good performance on her part, but horrible story line for Abby. Can't she get a break!!??
Ok, so I rambled a bit on that last post. Let me clarify a bit. I still like all the supporting actors on ER, its just that it seems like thats all ER is anymore....a bunch of supporting actors. Pratt has shown signs of being a more leading character, but it doesnt seem to materialize. Same with Nela...and Ray before he left. And heck, even Sam and Gates. But the problem is, they are all just flirting with depth of character...none of their story lines seem to ever follow through. We get glimpses of what could be good stories, and then they get dropped, and the show goes back to just being a load of supporting actors Led by only two real heavy hitters in abby and luka (pratt and nela being a close 3rd). Thats just not a show worth watching anymore. There needs to be more substance. The story lines need to get better. PLEASE tell me Carter will at least guest appear a couple times this year. He took the life of the show with him when he left...more than ross, or hathoway, or green, or weaver, or any of them ever could have. Carter is second only to Greene in my book, and you cant loose them both and still have a good show unless you give us someone comparable to replace them with. Luka comes close, especially with abby in tow, but its STILL lacking. One other thing. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell whoever is in charge of the previews for the show to STOP making misleading previews. Seriously, I think its actually your goal to make the preview as completely misleading as possilbe. Case in Point...the preview that said "Why is everyone refusing to treat this patient" That was a SERIOUS let down of an episode. The preview made it sound like the guy was a terrorist, or serial killer or something, and it turns out, that gates was merely arguing with cardiology about how to treat him....BORING!!!! and MISLEADING!!! You have been doing that SOOO much with your previews lately. Its like you KNOW that your episode is going to suck so you have to be misleading about it so you can trick people in to watching. Ive watched ER since its debut...its one of only 3 shows I bother to turn the tv on for, and Im looooosing my faith in it. Last season, I said "ah, theyre in a slump, it'll get better" boy have I been dissapointed. FISH OR CUT BAIT PEOPLE. Make it good again or just make it go away.
I just have to say that I used to LOVE ER...from the beginning...right up until around the time Carter turned into a whining baby and ditched abby. And even the, the storyline with africa and him and Kem was still compelling, and good....but after that everything started to go sour...and is getting worse and worse by the moment! I commended you guys for keeping the show compelling and interesting even after loosing greene, corday, romano, benton, etc.
You pulled it off well because you kept the stories compelling, but lately it is just tripe. You dont even appeal to the same audience as you used to. All ER is now is a bunch of young arrogant docs with axes to grind all the time. Abby and Nela are the only glimmers...and Ray, but you even screwed that up. You need to bring him back if there is any hope for the show...NO, wait, let me change that. You need to bring CARTER back if there is any hope for the show. At the very least, Abby, Nela, and Luka need to remain the anchors of the show for it to remain watchable, and you need to do your BEST to get Noah to come back even for a few epis to give us a LONG needed dose of Carter! Seriously, you cant keep loosing your anchor characters. I commend you for getting away with it for so long. You really did a good job of keeping the show going through actors leaving, but your stretching it WAY to thin. Abby and Luka, and sometimes Pratt, are really the only thing holding the show together anymore...youre getting VERY low on characters people care enough about to get invested in...and now you are screwing with abby and luka. For one thing, abby never would have done what she did...and her friends never would have let her. THey all know about her problem. They would have never left her like that. Your writers really pooched that. Dont you think youve
screwed her character over enough? For starters, CARTER never should have dumped her...you made a big mistake ending that storyline that way, those were your best years. Shes NEVER been happy for longer than a half of a season. You need to cut her a break. Luka too...cant he have some happiness? Thats what bugs me....The show is compelling enough just from the medical drama without all the soap opera like relationship crap. You need to get back to how er started....mostly Medical drama with a very modest dose of personal stuff...and loose the melodrama. And if you cant keep the heavy hitter actors around that we've all come to love, then geez...just have the desency to END the show. Its getting soooo degraded. I have no interest in watching a Morris, Gates, Sam, Faith and Pratt ER. They just arent compelling characters, and the depth that greene, carter, lewis, and kovac have. The way I look at it, you are two actors (abby and luka) away from this show being a big fat DUD. GET BACK ON TRACK OR PUT IT OUT OF ITS MISERY WHILE IT STILL HAS SOME DIGNITY!!!! GET CARTER BACK!!! GET LEWIS BACK!!! DO SOMETHING!!!!
Honestly, people, let's calm down a bit. Nobody is trying to ruin the Luka and Abby storyline or bring about the demise of Abby Lockhart. Her relapse into alcoholism is fulfilling its purpose admirably. It is bringing to the character the fascinating depth that we first saw in seasons 7 and 8. I think last night's episode was easily the best episode of the season so far, largely due to Maura Tierney's flawless performance. My reactions to her acting were visceral. When Abby said, "Can I get something, please?" at the bar, I actually got nauseous. To see Abby, who has made such amazing strides with her life over the years, fall back into her old habits was certainly painful to watch, but it makes for excellent drama and it's taking the show in a compelling direction. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but I think berating Zabel and the other writers and producers is wholly unecessary; the Abby storyline is fantastic for the show. I love the season so far and look forward to the resolution of Abby's alcoholism! Having said that, I urge NBC to extend ER's run to a 15th season. The show still does wonderfully in the ratings; it performs better than do "30 Rock" and "The Office", my other favorite NBC shows. It makes perfect business sense for NBC, and the fans deserve a warm, attentice ending to the very best show in the history of television.
So please, let's stop abusing the writers for putting together a compelling storyline, and instead watch, riveted, as it unfolds...and hope for a 15th season!
WOW!! The last show really hit me. I have 19 months clean and for the last few weeks, I haven't felt like I've needed a meeting. I could do it myself, but while watching the story unfold with Abby, I realized what I'm not missing from my past. It seemed so real!! The writers have done an awesome job displaying the disease of addiction. Everytime Abby took a drink, I wanted to scream "NO!". Abby's flashbacks really hit home. I'm only 25 and I still want to go out at times and party. I just wanted to send a big thanks to the writers for reminding me what it could be like again.
I thought it was by far the best ep since 21 Guns/Bloodline. The writing and acting superb! Maura Tierney knocked it out of the park. I was all sorts of uncomfortable (you know in the good way) watching Abby unfold. While the spotlight was clearly on the demise of Abby the other stories were great as well.
I am so looking forward to the next few eps and I am thinking good thoughts for the writers and all affected by the strike.
Oh – and good job working green into the ep…of course Frank thought it was ridiculous – “I’m going out back to burn some tires with kerosene, you good with that?” HA!
Who are those folk singers in this episode? I freakin' LOVE them. Seriously, where can I buy their
I'm probably one of the last persons who actually watched the eppy and it's commenting.
Well, I've just finished watching the episode and what I feel right now can't be described with words especially in English because it's my second language. But I really feel EMPTY, my whole soul has been taken by Maura Tierney.
I know most of the members of this group or any other I belong to are more ER fans than one actor's fan, but in my personal case the order is the following:
1st - I'm a HUGE Maura fan.
Because of this, that woman called Maura Tierney just blew my mind and soul with an extraordinary performance full of feelings and anguish, that I'm picking up the peaces of my heart right now, because I almost hyperventilate with her performance. America should be hugely proud of having her as one of the finest, classy and incredible actresses in her rows. If I was grieving for ER last season, her performance just made me want MORE and MORE of her acting, so if NBC agrees to make ER run another season I'll do a party in its honor, at least I'm gonna ask some Peruvian ER Fans to join me and celebrate if that happen.
2nd - I'm a LUBY fan
This part of me is aching in a way I haven't experimented before. I knew happy LUBY couldn't stay that way all S14 because factors like Goran's availability and category of the show (ER it's a drama), but to make Abby cheat on Luka, IMO was too much, I would have prefered a kiss between Abby and Moretti than the nasty, gross and completely ugly scene of the flashback, looking to Tucci's chest was nauseous; at least the new intern (Grady) was way better than him and has a crush on Abby. I'm really sad she cheated on Luka, I know he left for a understandable reason, I know he took too much time and Abby wasn't supposed to do all the job alone, but it can be done, I do it everyday and sometimes its harder but that's why a mom thinks better.
3rd - I'm an ER fan
As an ER fan, I think this episode brought back the emotion and excitement that watching "21 Guns", "Bloodline· and "Graduation Day" in a row gave me some time ago, my back is killing me because the anguish and emotion and I only experimented that when I saw the 3 episodes I mentioned before. IMO this episode catapults ER in another level, a level that no-one could have imagined and I truly hope TPTB agrees to have a 15th season but only if my dear Maura Tierney stays, because no matter what other people might think, FOR ME MAURA TIERNEY IS THE HEART AND SOUL OF THE SHOW!
Aditional comment:
After this episode I hope some people who actually feel the need to compare ER with shows like Grey's Anatomy and House, stops doing that, ER is ubicated in another superior level than those, ER has not any other show to compare with, ER is unique, and people at the Academy (EMMY) and the Hollywood Foreign Press (GOLDEN GLOBE) should pay more attention to that fact and stop bashing the show we all love ans starts giving the recognition to the cast and crew of that superior show called ER!
**Viviana**
Dont like what your doing with the show worst ever season of all time. And you need to bring WEST back.It just SUCKS bigtime. When you lose all you fans maybe then youll get the point....Bring Shane back and get the ROOMIE thing right 3 years of them put to waste.....Season sucks
this was the most wost episode please don't ruin abby and luka keep them together and i hate this storyline.
If Maura is not nominated for an Emmy, you should all be fired. I balled like a baby last night- right along with Joe.
MR. ZABEL I GOING TO TRY AND TYPE THIS CALMLY AND POLITELY AS POSSIBLE BUT AS YOU CAN SEE MOST ER FANS AND ABBY FANS ARE GOING NUTS TODAY AFTER YESTERDAY'S ER EPISODE, THE TERRIBLE AND MOST AWFUL EPISODE I'VE SEEN!!!!!! I THINK THIS IS THE WORST EPISODE IN ER HISTORY FOR ME!!!!!!!!!I'M CRYING A BIT RIGHT NOW I WOULD OF WRITTEN THIS YESTERDAY SO YOU WOULD HAVE SEEN THIS AND I HOPE YOU DO SOON BECAUSE MAURA TIERNEY/ABBY FANS ARE DEVASTATED AND ANGRY!!!!!!!I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU WRITERS!!!!!!!!THIS IS A COMPLETE INFAMY!!!!!!!!!!!
I have watch this show from the begining. I am so disappointed!!!! I dont want to evan watch it anymore!!!! Why would you ruin someones life. When she has already had a bad life. We wait for you guys to put them together and you are going to throw it away. I am so upset at this show. All her friends knew she was a drunk. Yet they did nothing!!! That would not happen. To have her sleep with someone else was just crazy. No matter what kind of ass he is. He wouldnt have slept with her if he was a real man!!!!! I cant beleave you would ruin the last bit of this show!!!
VERY UPSET!!!!!!!!!! SO ARE OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS THAT ARE NOT GOING TO BE WATCHING ANYMORE THANKS!!!!
I hate what you are doing to Abby. Please let her have a nice/normal/happy life. There is no way she would have slept with Moretti! He was a jerk for taking advantage of her when she was so obviously wasted. Why didn't any of her "friends" make sure she got home!
David very good episode but as a fan I would like to watch the type of drama and ideas of past seasons like seasons 7, 8 and 9 which I think were the best seasons of ER, hope you can listen to this desires of a loyal fan :)
ok - i just watch the last half. it was worse than i thought. this episode makes me want to purchase a fleet of hummers and burn the earth to a crisp just so i don't have to see it again. i really do hope they fire whoeer was involved in this.
wow- how horrible. er finally got good after a few years of terrible seasons and then this horrible crap is delivered to us. who ever wrote this episode needs to be fired right away. especially whomever decided that the horrible folk singers where comedy. the next time your real writers go on strike, or get glib and decide to write crap because they know they are going on strike, please stop the show or fire them.
Who is the guy playing the energy consultant? I know I've seen him before.
