The music is a key element in the show. Marty Davitch is our composer and he does beautiful score for us. Ann Kline helps us find and choose good songs for the show. Often in the case on the show, a song that makes it way in will be something I may have been listening to while I was writing it, cause I like to listen to get in the right place. So the David Grey song you heard tonight was something that was in my CD player while I was writing it.
In terms of composed music, Marty and I and some of the others involved will talk about the type of music we want in various scenes. Last year, we tried to go for a sound that was a little bit fresh, something that was different than we had done in ER over the years.
Hi! tAVZIais
This reminds me of something that my uncle always said...
Obviously it's most likely not appropriate right this moment...
This makes me remember this thing my brother pretty much always said...
Then it is surely not appropriate at this time...

Answers re: Songs
'Mercy' by Duffy (playing at the end)
'Ache' by James Carrington (playing during the Abby/Kovac montage)
What is the name of the song (and its artist) that was playing when Sam and Gates got together?
why is laura innes gone i have been watching ER since it began there is not 1 person left from the begining that really sucks so i stopped watching
hey who sing's the luv, luv, luv song played during begining of the show? It's driving me crazy trying to remember!
I loved the song that played during last night's episode, who was the artist and what was the tilte of the song.

Marty: How are you? You had a newborn when we worked together at Orme....Am in claremore, oklahoma with 12 grandkids...and composing a lot of anglican church music. Hope you live ten thousand years.. phil smith
I would really love to see an episode with Abby and Luka making a trip to Croatia. Abby could see what Luka's life was like there and they could visit the graves of his first two children. They could help in a Croatian orphanage or hospital and maybe have some drama with the baby getting (Not Bad!) sick. Please show more emotion between these two wonderful charactors. Loved the Season Premire, but these charactors didn't seem to have enough human emotion.
Open Your Eyes is the best song eveeeeeeeeeer!!!!!
I was moved by the show last night and brought back memories of my children's NICU experience (at 28 weeks). Although I know most of your shows are 'already in the can', I hope you have taken a different view of preemies than you have previously done. During Abby's NICU rotation, the show's writers were not empathetic of these babies. Perhaps now, you will show this emotional roller coaster ride more realistically. You mentioned visiting an ER etc. How about visiting a NICU and meet some parents who had super preemies and see their children. Take a sample of the past 5 years so you can see what it is like after the babies come home. In the past, this show has brought national attention to important issues. 1 out of 8 babies are born premature in this country. Prematurity and the effects of premature are important. The sheer drama of this experience and the emotional toll it takes on everyone involved would make for great TV. Here's hoping you do this well.
I would like to add my complaint about the incredibly annoying, loud music (if I can call a guy yelling at the top of his lungs, music)during what otherwise was a very important, touching scene with Abby getting her operation. Really, who needs that racket drowning out the actors voices?
I've been a loyal ER fan since the show's inception but tonite was too much for me. I really wanted to see Maura's and Goran's characters have a healthy childbirth and a happy life together. I'm sorry that the writers chose to write a different storyline. There has just been too much sadness in their respective lives and this takes the cake. Too depressing!
I agree with others that the music was way too loud in the OR/C-section between Abby and Jerry. Still love the suspense of the show after 13 years. Why after all this time do we need new opening music. The old music let us know Er's on and time to for the kids to be in bed!!!
I thought that the music during tonight's dual life saving surgeries was totally too loud and inappropriate. I like the music, but I wanted to be drawn into the story at that critical life or death moment. I couldn't hear the dialogue over the music blasting. It outraged me!
The name of the song is Life in Slow Motion by David Gray. The album came out September 9th and is titled the same.
Didn't like the new opening theme, much prefer the old theme. LOVED the David Gray song on this episode and also appropo on the final epidose of Conviction.
There were two songs on tonight that I can remember - Slow Motion, David Gray and Open Your Eyes, Snow Patrol. Great - Great - Great tunes for this show!!
DJM, PLease, i am begging anyone, what is the artist and title of the song from Abbey's c-section and Jerry's heart procedure..........anyone?
The ONLY t.v. I watch is ER, an avid fan, but tonight was terrible. The music during the Jerry/Abby O.R. scene was way off and too loud.
Definitely miss the original opening music - a brilliant piece that carries suspense and let's everyone know that ER is on!
What was the song called played during the c-section and the surgery?
Well Done David. I was a huge fan that gave up two years ago. I watched tonight (tough choice over ABC/CBS) and will watch every night for the rest of this season. Thanks for bringing us fans back.
Is there any type of program where people tour the set or meet the cast and what not? Or do you sponsor any teleplay writer internships?
Great show tonight; 13 seasons strong.
Love the show! Well done for putting Luka and Abby back together, they're the real heart of the show! What is it like working with all the actors on set?
There was a song at the beginning of the show that was awesome!! What was the name of it?
so is david grey the song during the c-section and jerry's heart procedure
I loved the strings score. It gave the show a very timeless and cinematic feel that is hard to do on television. Amazing
Thanks, David. What is the name of the David Gray song used in tonight's episode?
I actually really liked the music that started off the show. Who was that?
Why isn't Maura first in the credits?
