Hello from headwriter, Dena Higley
The house is quiet. I mean, the house usually is quiet early Saturday mornings, because my kids and my husband are late sleepers—when they get the chance. So Saturday mornings are my chance to have the house, and my thoughts, to myself… a good time to get work done.
I’ve never blogged before. I asked advice from my 18 year old daughter. She told me that since this is my first entry, I should do some sort of introduction. But I think I’ll just wing it-- plunge in and do some explaining as I go.
Not only is the house quiet but it’s empty. And I kind of feel the emptiness and it’s a little disconcerting.
I have four kids, one husband, two dogs and a cat. The cat and the dogs are here, but almost everyone else is gone.
My oldest son, CK (age 19) is away with his school’s track team. They spent the night in a motel and have a meet today.
My youngest son, Helio (age 13) is enjoying the end of his spring break with his dad in the desert doing father/son bonding things.
My youngest daughter, Adelle (age almost 12) is at a sleepover.
My oldest daughter, Jensen (age 18) is the only one here besides me. She’s asleep in her room. She was up late here at the house last night with friends. I won’t see her till noon.
Oops… I just got a flurry of text messages from CK. He’s in a bad mood. I don’t think he slept much last night and he had to get up early for the track meet. He runs the hurdles. 110 highs and 300 intermediates. He doesn’t mind small duel meets when it’s just his school vs. another school. But these big Invitationals that last all day wear him out. CK doesn’t like being forced out of his comfort zone. And almost everything in life (with the exception of playing video games) takes him out of his comfort zone. I guess I should explain that CK was diagnosed with a high functioning form of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Well, it’s been called that and a lot of other things, depending on the doctor. CK’s had more labels put on him than I can count. But he’s still just CK. He still gets frustrated easily and doesn’t like his schedule altered. He’s funny when he doesn’t try to be and not when he tries. He spends Saturday nights at home but was voted “Most Friendly” at his school. He has one foot in the disabled world and one in the mainstream world. He’s a man without a country. Mark (my husband) and I have firmly (and sometimes not so gently) pushed him out of the nest over and over. We’ve beat the bushes to find great schools that would mainstream him-- even when he was a difficult fit for them. He’s had wonderful therapists, teachers and coaches—all heroes in my book. CK had no appropriate language until he was 7. And processing language is still really hard for him. I’ll explain more about that someday. Right now, this blog is feeling pretty exposition heavy and I think I should get back to journaling.
Anyway, it just occurred to me (after about the 12th text message from him) that CK expresses himself much better and clearer with texting than he does verbally. This realization is a huge relief for me because he’s going pretty far away to college next year and now I know I’ll be able to really communicate with him—probably better than if we were face to face. Am I terrified to send him off? Absolutely. May be it’s a bad idea. May be I’ll change my mind. Argh!
As for my second child-- I checked with Jensen last night and she’d prefer it if I protected her privacy and not talked about her too much on this blog-- and I so have to respect that. We have a great relationship and I’m not about to risk embarrassing her any more than I already do. But I’m looking forward to sharing more about CK and a lot about my two youngest kids. Jensen and CK are our biological kids and our other two are adopted.
Adelle was adopted from Vietnam when she was 17 months old. She was born with no leg below her right knee and her fingers fused together. But she is so beautiful and so funny and smart and full of life. She’s growing so much, her leg constantly has to be adjusted. Dave-the-genius builds all her legs, but he’s a two hour drive from our house and it seems like we have to go there all the time. She gets a new leg about once a year and has lots of adjustment in the interim. Adelle runs and plays until she gets blisters on the end of her stump. It’s frustrating because she doesn’t want anything to slow her down.
Helio came to us from Ethiopia when he was almost 9. He spoke no English. Now (five years later) he is Student Body President of his school. He has an amazing outlook on life and a charisma that is undeniable. But he’s going through a “I didn’t mean that” phase where he apparently doesn’t mean what he says or say what he really means. Very frustrating. He wants to be with his friends all the time and the phone rings off the hook with calls for him… mostly from girls.
Both Helio and Adelle are graduating from 6th grade this June and getting ready for Middle School. So… I have two Seniors graduating from high school this year and two matriculating 6th graders. June is going to be insane.
Yes, I’m the Head Writer at DAYS. I wanted to put myself out there as someone who has this crazy family. I readily admit that I’m stressed all the time and (as one of my bosses said) a little nuts. If only I could finish a thought or a sentence or…
Ooops, have to go. Adelle is texting me now. She wants me to pick her up from her sleepover. And when I do I’ve been asked to bring her new jean shorts and a laundry list of other fashion supplies. Why? I don’t know. Oh, and she wants me to use this blog to tell everyone that she loves Kevin Jonas. Apparently she doesn’t have her sister’s privacy issues.
I was wondering if you get some of your writing ideas from the messages posted by the fans. I just love the ej and samantha story line. This is a very romantic love story. Hope you can satisfy many of the ejami fans. They are the "Super Couple" and have a magical chemistry on screen. I have a very busy life, but I always make time for EJami. Actually, the only time I watch days is when they are on screen. Finally, samantha has someone who truly loves her.

I just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful story lines that you have given us as of late. I just ask that you please please don't do another EJ/Sami/Lucas love triangle. lol.....Just give us Sami and EJ and we'll be happy. I know, I know it doesn't make for great story line and the more the angst the better. However, us EJami's are about to go crazy trying to second guess your every move on how you will do EJami next.
I love Bryan/Lucas but please give him a story line and a life away from Sami for once. I think that Morgan might go well with him. But poor Lucas needs to finally get a life away from Sami before he ends up in the looney bin.
As for the rest of the story lines, well, you guys are doing awesome....just look at how high Days ratings have sky rocketed. Loyal fans of the show are finally coming back and I believe that it thanks to you and Ed Scott for everything that the both of you do. Tell ED that we would all like to hear from him as well.

You have an amazing family. I really enjoyed reading your blog. My son was diagnosed as having ADHD. I didn't put him on any medication. Instead I worked with his teachers and school nurse to help him cope with this disorder. Some were more understanding than others. My son never got into trouble in school and in some grades he was the smartest student in his class. Only two teachers tried to have him medicated in order to attend their class. I wish you and your family all the best. As you can see I'm not a writer. I confess to having borrowed from greeting cards when I wish someone a happy anniversary, birthday,merry christmas,get well etc... So I'm in awe of your talent and skills for writing this wonderful show. I'm in my early forties and my daughter is 24. We both love Days!
Wow Dena, seems like you have your hands full between four kids, your pets and being the head writer for Days Of Our Lives. Where do you find room to breathe and have time to yourself? I think it's wonderful that you and your husband adopted two children. I think that shows "sympathy." It's very nice to see you reach out to the fans. I have never seen a head writer do that before. I actually am enjoying your writing and the Days storylines so far. I really hope that you don't decide to do another Lucas/Sami/EJ triangle and put EJ and Sami together. They belong together. They are the hottest unofficial daytime supercouple to ever hit Days in I don't know how many years. Not putting them together would be a mistake and I think would loose a lot of viewers. Make Baby Allie EJ's as well. Loving EJami is like Breathing, you can never ask us to stop.

Wow, I can't believe the head writer of Days has a blog. This is great. I love that you adopted two children, you and your husband must be a very caring and giving couple. And good luck with teenagers. I never want to visit that part of my life again. I want to tell you that I love what you are doing with the storylines on Days of Our Lives. I exspecially love Ej and Samantha. They brought me back to watching Days 2 years ago. I had stopped when real life got in the way and I just never started watching again until I saw these two together in a scene two years ago. I was hooked from that point on. I consider them to be the next supercouple of daytime. I also love the new John, and Tony and Anna. Anyway, thank you for having your own blog for the Days fans. It really is awesome.

I just read your blog -- very cool that you have one! I like it, but I am a mother of two and have a cat so I can relate - even if my kids are younger.
Would love to know more about your work at Days - how storylines comes together, etc. What plans you might have in the works - if you can give away that much.
I'll put in a plug for my favorite - Marlena. I've loved her from the beginning when I watched as a youngster. I'm enjoying her strength and loved her in the winter when she was rather snarky - a great departure from her usual self. I hope that she continues to be on screen as much as she has been, and continues to be strong.
I just wanted to say that I love the work that you are doing to bring Days back to it's former glory! I can't wait to see what you have in store for the supercouple of Sami and Lucas when Bryan Dattilo returns! So many of us have been anxious for him to return to our screens and be reuinted with his one true love! The thought of Sami with the man who raped her is just sickening to so many of us that we have been tuning out when they are featured together.
Hi Dena, thanks for doing this blog, especially since it seems you have very little extra time on your hands. I have been watching Days for a very long time, and stick with it through the good and bad. One thing that seems to be missing is the payoff. I watched EJ commit crime after crime, and he has gotten away with it all, with now half the town of Salem seemingly forgetting it all. I want EJ and his many crimes to be exposed. I want him to pay and suffer for all the pain and suffering he has caused so many in Salem. This current white-washing is not a redemption. To redeem him he must be exposed, lose everyhing he cares about, then come out feeling a sense of self-loathing that will make him an underdog we might want to root for. Then pair him with someone he has not hurt. Please give us Days fans the payoff we deserve.
Please don't put a victim with her rapist! It's insulting and unnecessary. Find someone else for EJ! Sami will always love Lucas.

I have been very interested in the Ava story line as of late. I'm just worried that my favorite couple Steve and Kayla will be permanently scarred by Ava's actions and desires to have Steve and the baby Kayla is carrying. Please take into consideration the huge fan following of Steve and Kayla. We waited for years to see them together again and right now I have to say that I'm really afraid for them and the future of their family.
Dena, I have a question: Since you have adopted children, how can you be writing this love story between Max and Stephanie? I know you were around Days to remember Max holding Stephanie on his lap and marveling at how she would someday call him Uncle Max. Adopted family members are still family members! You are great at creating new characters, create some new ones as love interests for these two important characters, PLEASE!
Please give LUMI some happiness! They got married, and EJ has interfered from the ceremony through the honeymoon through their annulment and divorce. We fans had waited 14 years for them to be together, and you wrote them so well during your first run. Bring back the LUMI magic!

Thanks for taking time from your busy life to blog to the days fans. I've been watching days on and off for most of my life (on for the past 5 years) and wanted to let you know I enjoy your writing. I especially enjoy how you have written EJ's redemption and like the many above me, looking forward to where the EJAMI storyline is going. I think EJ and Sami have the most chemistry of any couple I've ever seen on daytime. Also, I hope John doesn't get his memory back, this NuJohn is hilarious!

We adopted our older daughter when she was eight. It is a tough road for these kids, but she is well now as an adult.
Kayla needs an emotional meltdown of some sort. We have never really gotten to see what life without Steve did to her, and she has been too forgiving of him when he continues to lie so much. That is why we love Steve, but she needs to rip that boy a proverbial new one.

Been watching Days ever since 1996 and have always wanted a man for Sami who was just for Sami and not be shared with other women on the show. When EJ arrived at days it was finally a man who would love Sami and only Sami, and two years later that is still true
Dena, please do the right thing and kill Lucas and the Lumi storyline. We have endured 15 years of this crap. Lumi does not work. They stopped me from watching the last time and if they re-unite, I will stop watching as well. I know I am not the only one. Please put Ej and Samantha together, they belong together. Their chemistry is explsoive!

I've been watching Days since 1982. I've always loved your scripts, and when you were headwriter in 2003 I absolutely adored that you gave us Sami & Lucas as the romantic couple I always knew they could and should be. The last couple of years have been pretty rough, ever since your predessor decided he was in love with James Scott and decided to make the show all about him. I cheered the day you came back because I knew you'd fix that problem, and you have!
I'm really looking forward to see what you have in store for Lucas & Sami now that Bryan's back. I can't wait to watch their electrically charged bantering. Hopefully the rapist won't be sticking around Sami for too much longer - pair him with Nicole - there is a spark there.

I'm a huge EJami fan and I'm loving what has been happening for them. EJ and Sami are a supercouple for sure. There is so much chemistry there it can't be denied. I love that EJ loves Sami unconditionally. That is beautiful. I really want to see Sami wake up and realize it is EJ she's always wanted. I'm really looking forward to what is to come for Sami and EJ!!!
Also, I'm so glad EJ has gotten his edge back. I've always thought EJ should be grey EJ (a bad boy with a good heart). I love that EJ is doing what he has to do to provide for his family. EJ can have an edge and still be a family man. You can really tell he loves his family (Sami, Johnny, and Ali). EJ has really bonded with baby Ali too and baby Ali has bonded with EJ. I'm hoping it turns out Ali is really EJ's.

Just curious how you can live with yourself, scabbing during the strike, and letting your husband "cover" for you when everyone in the Industry knew you were headwriting DAYS? Your blog paints you as this wonderful, generous parent. Maybe you are. But your reputation with your writing peers in daytime is and will continue to be in the toilet. As it should. By the way, I can't help wondering if you're blogging now to make yourself more "sympathic" with the fans after most have trashed you for scabbing.
I love Lumi. I haven't watched live since Bryan was written off and am soooo thrilled that he will be back soon. I love most of the storylines you have written thus far and am highly anticipated more Lumi love when Lucas comes back. Remember, rape is not romance.
Greatly appreciate the sharing in your first blog entry. It takes a lot to open up about personal life when there is that chance that so many will trash the information released. It is nice to know there are others out there who live with/have children with spectrum disorders. I am a spectrum mom myself. However, my son is only seven and I know I have many more years of the same experiences you described with your own son! Would love to know how you deal and keep going with so many other things going on in your life!! Kudos! Like many of those who have responded to your blog, I am an EJAMI fan. It is amazing to watch two characters/actors with that much chemistry. It does not happen often, and I think that is the reason so many people have become completely mesmerized! It is hard not to watch James and Ali without being amazed. I love to watch their scenes together whether they are made with each other over something or laughing at something ridiculous. Great super couple in my opinion. Of course many viewers out there hate these two together. Not me! Keep it up and I hope wish you much success! Bird : )

I have to say I really love your blog I have children about the same age as yours and I can so relate! I am a big fan of DAYS and hope it continues. I watched Days with my mom and now my daughters watch DAYS with me. It's funny my oldest daughter calls from College and she always begins with so how's EJ? I also have a younger daughter in high school too, the three of us bond over EJ. It's our favorite subject. All three of us were swooning over EJ the summer of 2006 and have been fans even thru his darkest days. We all love the redemption storyline and the fact that EJ is such a great father we are hoping he ends up as Ali's father too! The redemption storyline and EJ as the great father are really great message storylines. Thanks for showing that forgiveness and love can change a person. We really loved the EJ church scene where he finally gave it up to God and ever since he has been that "changed" man. Please give us an EJ romance - would love it if Sami was truly his soul mate. Santeen was a wonderful romantic story. And their love making scene was the best I have ever seen ... James and Ali have amazing on screen chemistry! We would like more of that please.

I'm loving most of the show right now. I'll be loving it even more when Lucas returns! The only thing that I don't care for is the pushing of Sami and her rapist, it's what often keeps me from watching because it just sickens me.

It makes me that much more of a fan when "stars" are not pretentious and are down to earth. I am a HUGE fan of DOOL, I have watched for over 23 years! I really liked what you did when you write before, so I am really excited to have you back! I LOVE new John, I am actually starting to like Marlena, I am a HUGE Steve and Kayla fan, love Bo, love Nick and Chelsea, and absolutely ADORE Lucas and Sami. I think you are a doing a great job on your blog so far! It's not easy putting your personal life out there for people to read so I appreciate you sharing a little bit of yourself with us. As far as DOOLS go, I really love the EJami storyline. They are my favorite couple
on the show. I really hope we see more of them this summer. I must say it was tough when they weren't on for 3 weeks, but I hope James and Ali got a bit of rest while they were off the screen. Also, I really appreciate everyone's hard work on the show. For many people DOOLS isn't just a show, it's about a form of comfort for some of them. Many people watched this show with their moms or grandmas when they were little. Some watched the show when they were in college and had DOOL get togethers :) So sometimes it's like coming "home" if that makes sense. This medium is not valued as it should be in my opinion. So I just want to thank you and everyone on the show for trying to bring DOOLS where it needs to be. I really don't want to see this show cancelled. I just want to say that I've watched the show since the early 1980's and I've never seen a chemistry like EJ and Sami since original recipe Steve and Kayla. I, for one, am looking forward to a healthy dose of "love in the afternoon" this coming summer on DAYS! EJ has loved Samantha so passionately and for so long without any love or affection (and little appreciation for the good he HAS done) in return. It's time for the poor guy to be on the receiving end of some serious LOVING! :) More than anything, I want to see Samantha wake up to the fact that she still finds him sexy and completely irresistible ~ whether she cares to admit it or not. Frankly, at this point, I really don't know how she could function without him in her life. Even when he's angry with her (as in the last couple of episodes), he doesn't tear her down or belittle her. He tries to reason with her. Hopefully, Sami will come to the realization that she *is* jealous of any possibility of a budding romance between EJ (*her* man) and Nicole. I can't WAIT for the sparks to fly!!!
Thank you Ms. Higley for creating this blog. We sometimes forget that those who create our entertainment are actually "people" with families, struggles -- basically living life like the rest of us. I'm really touched by what you shared about your children, especially CK and Adelle. It's apparent how proud you are of all of their accomplishments. They are very blessed to be part of a loving family. Just want to add that I love your work on Days, especially what you've done with EJ and Sami's story, which has slowly transformed into something quite beautiful and entertaining. I'm also loving John and Marlena's story. I can't wait to see both stories unfold. I'm more a fan of Days than I've ever been in recent years. I just wanted to say that I actually quit watching the show because of EJ. He is simply unwatchable, especially when he's with Sami. Please don't reward a rapist with his victim and her children. Make both the twins Lucas' and give Sami her spunk back, the real Sami would have kicked her rapist out of her life for good.

I'm sure you've notice Ej and Sami have a large, very loyal following. Many of us are hooked to the screen every second Ej and Sami are on it. I am liking the direction you've taken them so far, and I like that you are taking your time. The Redemption is being handled beautifully...and I appreciate you letting up Ej's doormat status as of late! But I have to admit...Lucas moving into the mansion? C'mon..even in soap world...that's ridiculous. There is no reason he should be there. He can live with Kate and still wreak havoc with Ej/Sami.

Hi Dena. I was just throwing the idea of doing a Sweet Home Salem for Broe, the divorce doesn't go through. I just don't see Brady as a drugee or Chloe leaving him if she knew what was going on or even after the fact. They truly had a sweet love story and I am hoping you continue it. They truly loved one another and overcame so much to be together. Please continue the love story of this couple.

Reading your blog, I already know that you are a better fit for Days than the previous head writer. First off, you are a WOMAN! It has been far too long since Days has had a woman at the helm. Men can write well too but when it comes to soaps, the writer needs to understand what makes us chicks tick and a lot of men just don't. The previous writer felt that sex, rape and no chemistry were ok as long as he was witty but his skilled writing got LOST on the viewers because there was no heart. He ignored chemistry that was staring him in the face and actually tried to destroy it. If you do nothing else, I BEG you to PLEASE re-write, re-interpret, expand upon the horrific EJ and Sami "incident" to show it clearly as a choice Sami had which is what more than half the viewers think anyway. The point of view of so many of us on the indecent proposal was completely ignored by the previous writer. He just thought if the characters said rape enough, those of us who didn't see the scene that way would just all of sudden change our minds. Please don't do the same thing and please end the "EJamicus" stuff as soon as you possibly can. Lucas deserves his own storyling and EJ and Sami deserve to be written as the powercouple they have been since the Summer of 2006.
So far, Ms Higley, I've LOVED what you have brought to Days. I'm enjoying ALL the storylines again and you just seem to "get it". You understand the characters and I'm seeing glimpses of the real characters I used to love. There is balance on the show again (although, I would like at least 2 days of EJami per week! LOL). Ugh, just read some of the comments in here - all these anonymous folks. Gee, you think it is the same person posting over and over again about that couple that killed the show last year? One can look like many when you hide behind anonymity. The ratings are clear, the potential is clear, the storyline is clear. EJami is what the viewers want and EJami is most definitely a supercouple. That other couple took 15 years just to get together - supercouples defy the odds and happen quickly. EJami have all the ingredients for the best supercouple Days has ever had. Just remember, loving EJami is like breathing, you can never ask us to stop!
I have to agree with the person that posted that Brady and Chloe had a beautiful love story. It would be a shame for the show to squander one of their best pairings. Bring back Kyle when his contract is up and let the magic of Broe live again.

EJAMI are wonderful and the reason I watch this show. THey are adults while lumi are teenagers that should have ended long long ago. Aside from ejami I love the new John and I adore anna and tony.

Dear Dena, FIrst of all a big thank you for giving us these wonderful ejami scenes. I had stopped watching days on and off for almost 10 years and then I tuned in one day 2006 and got a glimpse of EJ - I was hooked. His incredible chemistry with Samantha had be screaming supercouple in the making. Please have them deal with the rape and please end the 14 year nightmare of lumi in a mutually respectful way.
EJ raped Sami!!!!!!!!! This storyline is horrendous and sends an awful message to every viewer watching the program! Please end this story and reunite Lucas and Sami with Will and their babies!!!!!!!! Rape should not be rewarded!!!!!!!!!!!!
We love the Ejami storyline, glad to see that there is starting to be hints of forgiveness along the way because everyone has done things which are inexcusable but you cannot live with constant fear and anger within yourself. EJ and Sami are the great new couple, plz let them have more and more great scenes, they are humourous, lovely together and they just light up all our faces when we see them together!!!
I also like Ejami, EJ actually makes Sami tolerable. My bone to pick is the whole Brady is a drug addict storyline. I'm not feeling that one at all. I hope the plan is to have Brady come back for Chloe in the future. They have a really sweet story and Philip has no place in it. Philip should be paired with either Belle or Morgan.

Hated what you did to Shawn and Belle, frankly it STINKS! Once it was revealed Belle was a DiMera there was so many ways you could have gone with her character, like possibly bringing back the TOSCANO family for revenge against Stefano AND Victor. Both Belle and Shawn could have been victims in that plot. I like the idea of Philip and Morgan becoming a couple, it is quite an interesting match up and I do hope it goes a lot further in the relationship. Sami should not be put with her rapist, period! One redeemed rapist per show is quite enough and EJ is no Jack Devereaux! Lastly, bring back Shawn/Brandon and Belle/Martha before it's too late!!! I'm a fan of 35 years and I have watched less and less since Shelle's departure.

I never paid much attention to Sami but that changed when I happened to see a scene between EJ and Sami in April 2007. Since then I have been hooked. The complexity and chemistry of these characters makes them very entertaining. I like how the characters are imperfect but at the same time they are perfect for each other. Thank you for writing them as their true selves (neither one is a saint) and I can't wait to see what happens next- including a resolution to 29/12/06.

I wish you could do something to fix the "rape" issue with EJami. There are still a few fans that insist on bringing this up over and over! Maybe if and when Sami admits her feelings to EJ, she could tell him that she has always cared about him and that she truely forgives him for the things he has done(even though it was a choice, some don't view it that way!..and Sami isn't perfect herself, she did drug and rape Austin, but that's never brought up!)..anyway, maybe if Sami forgives EJ, then the few fans that are stuck on bashing EJ for the "rape" issue will also be able to forgive and forget!..and then maybe we could possibly move on and finally pair the most romantic,exciting couple on daytime TV~EJami! (I love Lucas, just not with Sami..they seem more like friends or brother and sister to me) EJ comforting Sami after her Grandpa died was hotter then Lucas and Sami making love! Don't you hate it when you write something and then all the comments you receive are about everyone else's agenda. Goodness, all of the fans telling you what they want you to write after only your very first introductory blog. The pressure must be unreal. Here you are just trying to introduce yourself to the community and everyone commenting here is essentially saying, "Yeah, that's great, but don't screw up my story line." Kinda makes you wonder if anyone read past the first sentence of your blog, or if they just saw a link on a website and have started a campaign to get their couple's name out there. Good luck dealing with the craziness of your position.
This drug addiction storyline that you are going to go with for Brady is INSANE!!!! What would drive Brady to drugs? Did you even do background research on the character? The drug addiction storyline you are writing for Brady makes no sense whatsoever! Brady would never turn to drugs. He and Chloe loved each other deeply. They were written as soulmates in case you didn't do your homework. A good writer would research the character that he or she is trying to writer for. You're destroying Chloe and Brady all so you could rehash a high school romance? Give me a break. Phloe is old hat. Philip was over Chloe and Chloe was over him. There is no need to go back to this convoluted couple. Broe's love and chemistry was undeniable. Please rethink what you're doing. Philip needs his own leading lady. First you tried to pair him with Shawn's lady and now with Brady's. Ever heard of Morgan or Stephanie?

Their fans have waited for a year and a half for them to pick up where they left off Summer 2006. Wow - its great to see a blog from the HW of the show! You are one busy lady. I am the mother of 4 children myself - all close in age so I can totally relate to the busy life with the kids and their activities and work.
I have been a long time (admittedly off and on) viewer of Days. My first favourite couple was Bo and Hope, and then I loved Jack and Jennifer and John and Marlena (love Tony and Anna too). However, no one has mesmerized me like Ej and Samantha have. (I even joined a couple of message boards because of them!) I find myself (because of work I tape the show) rushing home to watch and re watch over and over again the scenes with them in it. (I watch the whole show but re-watch their scenes repeatedly). Their chemistry is amazing - absolutely off the charts - and their stortyline potentials are endless. It is so refreshing to have a man love Samantha as his first and only choice! I'm glad you are giving EJ his backbone back - a bad boy with a good heart - and fiesty Samantha is great too! Bad girl with a good heart - makes the two of them perfect for each other! JS and AS are two absolutely amazing actors and they seem to challenge each other in their scenes. They are my absolute main reason for watching Days and I look forward to their story enfolding and them growing closer and closer and becoming a real married couple and for them to raise "their!!" twins together.

Third, I just wanted to say I love EJ and Sami and they have been responsible for getting me interested in DOOL after tuning out for a few years. One look at those two together, and my curiosity was most certainly piqued. I hope that you will be able to give these characters a fair chance at exploring that fantastic chemistry that they bring to the screen. I know that there are some unresolved issues that need to be sorted out but their story provides a great opportunity to explore and exploit various issues that could be applicable to Sami and EJ, and their developmental history apart from one another as well as a couple (C-PTSD, false memory syndrome, child soldiers, Emotional dysregulation, Parental Alienation Syndrome etc.). First, I want to tell you how much I LOVE EJami!! They are so great together. Awesome job with the Chez Rouge scenes. EJami were so cute arguing in front of that immigration agent. Seriously, they are the main attraction to the show these days. You have to admit it!! Lucas just doesn't hold a candle to EJ in any way. EJ is way better that him. (Pardon my bluntness, but I'm just being honest!) I heard that Lucas was coming back soon and he would be living in the mansion with EJami.....WHY OH WHY??????
I'm sure you know we've seen that triangle before and NO ONE wants to see it again!!! I think you have the potential to do really well as head writer, but I really just want to see EJami together. Let's face it, we want to see EJ get some from Sami!! Poor thing has been patient enough. Lucas would have raped her himself by now....

NO MORE LUMI. They are physically making people ill by having to watch them together. Don't make the same mistakes as Hogan Sheffer. He pushed them down our throats and we tuned out. The ratings are proof of that.
Lucas needs to be in a storyline without Sami. They are toxic together and should never be in the same room again.

As you continue your work, please consider the following:
1. Although the Lucas character is to return soon, however I must ask that the Lucas storyline not be a part of the EJ/Sami storyline. In my opinion, the Lucas character makes the Sami character regress to adolescent stage and antics not befitting a mother of three children. Scenarios with the Lucas character are not fun, but rather disturbing in their immature behavior.
2. In contrast, the two characters of EJ and Sami have the most unbelievable chemistry that I have seen on Daytime television in a very long time! Please allow them to explore this chemistry and make them the supercouple I and many other fans know them to be. I LOVE the EJami daily banter, whether it is playful and fun, or hot and passionate. EJ and Sami have a fun, mature, adult relationship that is a pleasure to witness and leaves me wanting more!

Hi DH. I was very interested in reading about your son CK. I also have a son who has had every label in the world under the sun pinned on him.Where your boy was voted nicest mine is voted most socially unaccepted by his peers which makes dealing with his stuff that much more tougher. I know how it can be though when your child has things to sort out. I try to think of it like Chris is sorting things out and with every experience we get a little closer to learning and developing socially and cognitively. He is a good kid in his heart and I wish with all mine that kids could be just a little kinder. My son is in 4th grade right now so we have a ways to go and I hope that someday I'll be writing a blog to you telling you that my son is going to college. I love the show right now it is a nice escape from things when things get stressful. I love the way your writing EJami! I love them together the chemistry between the actors is incredible and your writing them very well. I enjoy every scene between them and am anxious to see some real romance between them again. It would be great to draw out the angst, but give us EJami fans a bone, by having some hot dream/imagination scenes, where they are thinking about each other, but not confessing their true feelings. I am a big EJ fan and I really like what you have done with EJ and Sami so far and I hope you are going to resolve 12/29 so they can move on and finally be together like they should be. With as much chemistry as these two actors have with each other should not be apart.
I was a little girl when the Steve and Kayla love story unfolded in the 80s. When Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) left Days in the early 90s, I did, too, although partly because of time constraints and real life issues. I've never watched a soap as faithfully as I did during those years because those actors, with that chemistry, portraying those characters was pure magic. More than Luke and Laura or any other so called supercouple, they defined chemistry for me, even then, and to be honest, even now. It's not just about physical appearances, although Stephen Nichols is a handsome man, and Mary Beth Evans remains one of the most beautiful women on television (daytime or primetime), but it's also about connection, honesty, that they are always better together than apart. That type of connection and chemistry between actors is so rare, and I'm sure you know that having been in this industry for a while.
I was excited to learn they would be coming back to daytime as Steve and Kayla on Days, but I must say I've been a little disappointed. Instead of trying to recreate their old love story, and perhaps instead of inundating their relationship with women from Steve's past, I'd love for them to have to deal with the emotional consequences of being separated for so long. Also, I'd love for Steve to work a little harder at proving his love for Kayla, and therefore proving to the audience why he loves her and what makes them so special and unique as a couple. Please, give Steve some clear cut purpose that doesn't involve yet another woman from his past, and allow him to fight for his relationship with Kayla as hard and as long as she fought to bring him back to her.
People waited a long time to see Steve and Kayla again, and Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans are so very, very talented. Please, give them material that brings justice to a love story that has so effortlessly stood the test of time. You've got such a goldmine of opportunity - please, cash in.

I started watching for Steve and Kayla and then Bo and Hope, but I did stop watching for a few years only to tune back in for EJ and Sami. There chemistry is unbelievable and everyday I tune to see if they are on. They definitely are the next supercouple in the making. So thank you for this incredible couple and keep burning up my screen with them together! :)

Just wanted to say that my favorite Days story of all time was when you wrote Lumi's love story, starting in 2003 until they finally got together in 2004. They've had great moments since then, but overall no other headwriter has done them justice since you left. They are my favorite soap couple of all time. They brought me back to Days after giving it up for years. I hope to see an exciting and beautiful love story continue for Lucas and Sami in the near future.

One more thing: I know Shawn and Belle are supposed to be pre-destined by the gods, but they never worked for me. However, I absolutely LOVED Martha's Belle and JKJ's Philip together. They burned up the screen! They were the first "new" pairing I've been excited to watch in ages. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that someday soon, Martha's Belle will return and she and Philip will pick up where they left off. Now THAT's chemistry!!
Sami and EJ are poisoned by the rape and EJ's attacks on Sami's family. They have their loyal fans but for alot of the audience the two of them together are revolting. I feel sickened whenever I see them and I have to change the channel.
It upsets me that Sami has to be dumbed down for EJ and that every evil thing he's done is swept under the rug. Where is Sami's brain? Where is her spunk? Where is the kickass bitch I love? This is not the Sami Brady I've adored since I started watching. The Sami Brady I know would loathe EJ forever and try to get revenge on him for what he did.
Besides raping Sami, EJ has never faced the music for torturing Steve or for trying to kill Lucas in the freezer truck. Now Marlena accepts him too because he confessed where John was? Please stop the madness. EJ tried to kill John and then stole his kidney. All the characters acting like it didn't happen doesn't make us forget. If I'm ever going to like EJ again, he needs to get far away from Sami. It would also help if he wasn't pimped by characters who would despise him if they were written in character.

It's become a show that just wants to go for shock value, such as trying to pair a rape victim with her rapist as opposed to handling the situation as one would expect of a person who has been raped in the past. But I guess some of the writers have fallen into the same belief of some of the fans that if a guy has an accent, anything can be swept under the rug and forgiven. :rolleyes:
Sami, the true Sami would never have acted that way. You've ruined her character and I feel sorry for Ali Sweeney for having to portray such an insult to women as a character. And to all the fans who think pairing a rapist and his victim make them a supercouple, you'd be wrong. Becoming a Supercouple is not validated by their fans claiming so. Far from it. True supercoupledom is something that can't be denied by all fans, even one's who don't like the couple. From what I've seen all around the net, that will never happen because other than their own fans, everyone else can't stand the rapist paired with his victim.
But it wasn't just that. The pairing of a man with his niece is truly disgusting. I would think you would know adoption is just as much making of a family as being born to it.
Writing off Belle was idiotic too. I guess because whoever is in charge up there couldn't handle that their self-proclaimed supercouple Shawn and Belle didn't work and Martha's and Jay's chemistry was off the chart, you just got rid of them. Why not look in new directions when it comes to something that doesn't work. And Belle and Philip were melting the screen.
I can only hope you and the other writers take a long hard look at what this show has become. How far it has fallen. And why it probably will be taken off the air. As far as I can see, there's no reason to keep it on.

EJ and Sami have a great witty banter about them. With some effort the horrible writing of 12/29 can be gotten past. Many of us do not see it as rape because Sami consented. She was given a choice. We would love for that hiccup in the Ejami relationship to be dealt with and not glossed over like it has been ever since it happened.
Sami and Ej need to sit down and have a real honest talk. Sami needs to stop hiding her real feelings of love for Ej and feel free enough to just tell him and not worry about what anyone else would say.

You have a hard job ahead of you because of some of the more aggressive fanbases that will swamp you will rantings of the most sillest things like "rape is not romance". There will always be someone who is not happy with one or more storylines but don't let them overshadow the truth about what great pairings those they dispise really are. EJ has become very boring lately. Having him chase after Sami like a lovesick puppy dog has basically killed the character.
I for one have NO interest in the rapist finding happiness. EJ has never paid and I for one will never care to watch him. If he is the summer the summer of Days will be a blight for me.
I want to say I Adore Steve Johnson. But I want the writers to use his character more in character. He is music, humor, heroic, a gentle heart and has a bit of a violent and rough side. I want more.

Dena, I must say making this blog was a most excellent idea. It gives us fans a chance to see a real person behind the headwriter title. I for one loved the work you did on days in 2003, especially how you wrote for Kate & Roman, Sami & Lucas. Those four were TV's best dysfunctional family ever and I would love to see them on my screen once more.
Kate and Roman bring a touch of magic to the lives of people who have been around the block and have lost hope for true love. They show that it's never to late to find your soulmate and that at times you may find them in the most unlikely place.

This happens with ever poll and place for them to comment on as to try and force everyone else to agree with them. I personally am not either a "Lumi" fan or "EJami" fan - I am a fan of the show. I must say though that NO woman should be paired with the man who raped her. It is beyond sickning. And ONLY the EJ/EJami fans see it differently. Sami belongs with her true love Lucas. I am on the edge of my seat waiting for Bryan/Lucas to come back and reclaime his wife and children! I know it was said that Lucas was in jail because he had to pay for his crimes, so when will EJ pay for all his crimes?! When will Sami find out EJ is the one who locked Lucas in a freezer truck?! Hopefully soon... I do enjoy James Scott and wish you would bring back the TRUE EJ - the evil DiMera child.
As for the rest of the show, I am loving it! I enjoy very much seeing all the vets front and center again! This nuJohn is GREAT! For years "Days of our Lives" have been my escape from reality. I remember anxiously going home just to find out what happened next. Frankly growing up watching days, I remember the power couples such as Bo/Hope and Marlena/John, which always kept me interested even if they appeal to the older viewers. But what really got my attention and what I really appeal to was the younger generation, which kept me going for years. As my interest died down from the story lines for weeks now my sisters and I have been hooked and glued on days like we use to be when we were younger watching Shawn/Belle fall in love. The thing that's interest me so much as a younger viewer and keeps me on the edge of my seat is watching John/Marlena...EJ/Sami and of course the best story line ever of Chelsea and Dr.Jonas. Trust me if that story line of Chelsea and Dr.Jonas keeps going and their "hopefully" soon to be romance....it will keep my sisters as well as myself and many viewers watching.

What is up with Max and Stephanie by the way....they are just not clicking like a young couple in love...the person that clicked to me was Max and Abby. Now that was something promising that caught my attention. They had it all the bad boy theme, the innocent girl, the jealousy... there was so much chemistry. Maybe you could bring her back as the person that changes Max's bad luck streak because I don't see what Stephanie is doing for his life. I am happy to read about your big heart in adopting children. You have provided them with a life they would never have had otherwise. With that said, it makes the Stephanie/Max even more bizarre. Max is part of the Brady family period. They are related and closely. The message this story sends out is that since he is not biologically a Brady,he is not really related to Stephanie. I imagine you think of your children as your own, regardless if they are biologically yours. Please resolve this and break it up.

I hope those who are bickering will step back and try and show some respect to this wonderful head writer who has brought back the familiarity to our favorite show and I hope she will address the "rape"/"coerced sex" incident because I, for one, did not see it as rape nor did I see it as romantic. However, I do see it as something that helped bring about a self-realization in EJ that he didn't have to be his father's soldier. He has shown that he is not the same person. He has shown remorse and has worked harder than ANY Sami suitor to earn her forgiveness and love. EJ and Sami fans love what EJami can become again - the wonderfully romantic couple they were in the summer of 2006. I'm sick of hearing "rape is not romance" and that putting EJ and Sami together would send a message that what EJ did to Sami had anything positive to do with them being together. The message of EJ and Sami is one of growth, forgiveness and understanding. All elements of a true romance. The journey of true love never runs smoothly and mistakes are what strengthen the bond if they can be overcome and in EJ's case, he has more than overcome his mistake. EJ and Sami will have plenty to teach their children about learning from their mistakes and about forgiveness. EJ doesn't deserve infinite chances like some of Sami's suitors - he just needs one chance to prove he will never again hurt Sami. Thank you Dena for opening yourself up to us in this blog. The last time EJ and Sami were romantic was back in the summer of 2006 and the ratings actually hit a high after that summer and I believe it was almost exclusively because of EJ and Sami. Late 2006 and all of 2007 was all about that other Sami pairing and the ratings did indeed plummet. EJ and Sami were on screen together, sure, but in every scene, the writers made attempt after attempt to make the viewers hate EJ. Given a real chance and written in character instead of as shadows of their former selves, EJ and Sami are a supercouple that will take the ratings to new highs! :)

I started watching Days back in the 80's just as "Patch" started spying on Kayla. Life got busy and I stopped watching for about 10 years, then when I was flipping channels, I saw DOOL on the Soap Opera channel, and there was Steve and Kayla! I watched for a few minutes, then I saw EJ and Sami and that was it. I was hooked again! They have an undeniable chemistry.
I want you to know that contrary to what the "Lumi" fan base is insisting, not all sexual abuse victims are against the EJ and Sami pairing. Its generally a small group of Lucas fans that use the "rape" as their way to validate their opinion. The rest of us know that this story line was a huge mistake (not yours) and that you're trying to fix it. We do not feel your are insulting rape victims. If Sami felt she was raped, she would not allow EJ around her children, she would not live try to keep him in the country, she would not find comfort in his arms. As a victim myself, I can clearly see that Sami is not acting like a victim. Sami is NEVER a victim!

I am a long time viewer of Days. I have watched for about 28 years now - it my my daily escape from real life. I must say I am VERY glad you are back to clean up some of the mess that the previous HW left you. First and formost I believe Elvis the rapist DiMera needs to quit this whole "nice" act and go back to his DiMera roots. JS plays a MUCH better villian then a whiny lap dog to Sami. When I see EJ and Sami on screen together I get simply disgusted. He raped her just to produce a DiMera heir for his daddy and I am sick of hearing it was not rape when it was. The characters and actors have both refered to it as rape and ONLY the "EJami" fans see it differently. (and btw: I see they are in full force spamming your blog like they do with everything else.) It seems like everyone is talking about EJ and Sami on here. Their storyline seems to be getting better only because Nicole is back in town. You really need to bring back Stefano, the show seems a little boring without him. Many viewers are also wanting the same request. If you put Stefano back on screen, I'm sure ratings will go up because viewers are waiting to see the interaction between the new John and Stefano.

Well as you can read Dena, there are some real passionate opinions on both sides of the EJami/Lumi battle.
Lumi has been tried over and over and it doesn't work. Time to move on.

I am a long time viewer of Days. I have watched for about 28 years now - it my my daily escape from real life. I must say I am VERY glad you are back to clean up some of the mess that the previous HW left you. First and formost I believe Elvis the rapist DiMera needs to quit this whole "nice" act and go back to his DiMera roots. JS plays a MUCH better villian then a whiny lap dog to Sami. When I see EJ and Sami on screen together I get simply disgusted. He raped her just to produce a DiMera heir for his daddy and I am sick of hearing it was not rape when it was. The characters and actors have both refered to it as rape and ONLY the "EJami" fans see it differently. (and btw: I see they are in full force spamming your blog like they do with everything else.) I personally am not a "Lumi" or an "EJami" but I am tired of the bickering I see between the two fanbases all over the boards. I do believe that Lucas and Sami belong together. Dena, I think this is a great idea. It's too bad there are so many obnoxious posts. It ruins it for everyone. I just want to say I love EJ and Sami. They have wonderful chemistry. They have had so many wonderful scenes together. They're contempory, yet at the same time their romance has a old-fashioned feel about it. With them a kiss on the cheek, for example, is a scene worth watching over and over. They haven't really gotten together yet(except briefly in 2006) and they've had some of the most romantic scenes. Get them off the backburner, please. There are so many better things to do with them. I really hope they end up together. Thank you.

I’ve sat down in this seat, at this keyboard, poised to write this letter at least three times. And each time I talked myself down...told myself to wait and let this storyline play out. I’ve done that...and now I’m ready to write.
By way of full disclosure, let me start by saying that when it comes to Days of Our Lives, I’m a Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans fan first, a Steve & Kayla fan second and a fan of the show third. Please, keep reading...because while I openly admit the above, I promise I’ll try not to make this some fanatic rant of an S&Ker. In fact, I’ll try not to make it a rant at all.
I trust, since you’ve put this out there, that you’re interested in what we (the consumers of your product) have to say. And just so you know who is saying this -- I’m a 31-year-old, college graduate with a full-time job in marketing.
I can’t imagine what your job is like...to be responsible for the lives and loves of the 25+ characters of Salem, all the while catering to all the political whims and internal workings of this soap opera. What I can do is give you the gift of my feedback...and hope that you receive it. Please note that I realize you’ve only recently been named Days’ headwriter, and that some of what I may discuss is not your creation. That said, a true understanding of my thoughts will require just a little background.
When I returned to Days, and soap operas in general, two years ago, the show I found was hardly what I remembered, but that was okay -- I’m no longer the 16-year-old girl I once was either. The return of my beloved Steve and Kayla was less than stellar, but hold on “they” said, there’s a new writer on the way. I held on...through months of nothing followed by the frustration of the Billie mess, the tension of crazy Steve and the fluff that was Pocket. It wasn’t good, but I held on because the two of the best actors on daytime were back on my screen. For some crazy reason, I hoped that each of these less than original, poorly executed but wonderfully performed storylines would result in some sort of meaty payoff. Isn’t that what this is about -- we tune in, buy in, get jerked around and then bite our nails through sweeps before breathing a collective sigh of relief when it’s all wrapped up with a pretty little bow. Well, I tuned in, bought in, got jerked around and bit my nails...only I never got my pretty little payoff. Or any payoff.
But, that’s okay...hold on “they” said...there’s a new writer in town. In keeping with my full disclosure line, I’ll say that I read many posts about the Dena Higley of OLTL notoriety. I read them...and I put them aside. I was up for whatever might put this train back on track. That was three months ago. Wow...how far we’ve come.
Several months ago -- with John back alive, the Lucas/Sami/EJ triangle kicking, an interesting and talented younger set, and the prospect of a storyline with my fab four (Steve, Kayla, Bo & Hope) -- I thought the stage was set for one of the most exciting comebacks in...well, at least soap history. Instead, here’s how the last two months played out for me.
We’re getting the girlfriend from the past thing again. Really? Okay...I’ll wait and see. Hold on...we’re getting the obsessed girlfriend who kidnaps and holds hostage until she gets her man back. Sigh. Okay, I’ll wait. Wait, now she’s got his wife, wants his child and she’s going to use the threat of their lives to bed him. Are you serious? Haven’t we seen this before? Haven’t we seen close on this show...and from this writer on another show? Both of those went over really well. Rolls eyes. Okay...I’ll wait. At least we’re getting some really good acting here. And, as I so optimistically hoped, at least we’ll see some real movement for these characters...we’ll get some emotional payoff.
I’m waiting. Seriously. I know this is a soap opera -- I mean the man wears a patch and he died 18 years ago -- so suspension of disbelief isn’t my problem here. I understand the nature of soaps...and I know what I should expect when I watch them. Actually, I don’t expect a lot. I don’t need Shakespeare and I don’t necessarily expect the storylines to be realistic...after all, I am watching a soap opera. I do, however, expect some authenticity, and by that I mean interesting characters put in extraordinary situations offering authentic responses to said circumstances. I expect some basic level of storytelling with logical character motivations and a satisfying ending. If, along the way you’re able to surprise me, move me or earn my emotional investment, well then that’s just icing on the cake.
In this recent Ava storyline, however, I’m left wanting on all three levels. First there’s the storytelling. Despite the fact that this type of storyline -- everything from the crazy girlfriend from that past to the bartering of sex -- has been done (heck done on this show...and to some extent with this couple), I gave it a chance. Afterall, with that many soaps on for that many years, how many truly unique storylines are there?
Next up, character motivations. Here’s where I’m really struggling. While I don’t question Steve’s love for Kayla, I am left scratching my head about why he was with Ava in the first place, why he seems so paralyzed by fear with her now and why he’s not more angry at her for what she’s done. Guilt? I just don’t buy it. I guess Ava’s motivations are the most clear here, but I don’t know her or care about her, so she’s not the point. Add to that the fact that I can smell redemption a mile away and I’m starting to get annoyed.
We suffer through endless raunchy flashbacks and seemingly unending days in captivity and I’m wondering when this story is going to get going. You’d think after what feels like 42 days of captivity I’d have some real insight into Steve’s point of view, or even Hope’s. But aside from the occasional “Oh, Sweetness” or “Oh, Bo”, I get it nothing. Instead, when I wasn’t fighting the urge to gouge my eyes out, I got scene after scene of crazy Ava. I got it...she’s crazy. And we’re supposed to feel sorry for her...got that too. Again, don’t buy it. Moreover, now I’m feeling manipulated. Not to mention sick to my stomach from the flashbacks...and the flashbacks of flashbacks. No need to hit me over the head that hard -- I can see that these are intended to show the difference between the Patch/Ava relationship and the Steve/Kayla relationship. But wait...you showed me a relationship based on sex...and now you want me to believe that it was love. Hmmm...here comes confusion. So let’s see, at this point, I’m feeling annoyed, manipulated, condescended and confused. Add stupid to that, because I’m still watching. And waiting.
The big climax day arrives -- and we’re supposed to believe that Steve, the hero we’ve known and loved to 20+ years - can’t think of any other way to get his loved ones to safety than to offer his body to this woman. And just as he does, surprise surprise, in walks Kayla. It’s contrived, at best, but...again, I’ll buy it because at this point I’ve invested too much time to turn back. After all, my payoff is right around the corner. Right?
Now, I know Ava’s crazy, so we’ll leave her motivation out of this. But who is this guy wearing the patch, and what did you do with my Steve? I mean, let’s say I buy that he can’t figure another way out of this, and let’s say I buy that he believes staying with her will actually save the others, I’m still left wondering why he gives in so soon. And why he doesn’t look more pained to be doing so. Then, once he’s busted...why is he not more apologetic? Really, really unclear character motivations here. Then there’s poor Kayla. Poor feisty, strong Kayla. I know Kayla and, good reason or not, she would not be “fine” with this. And if she is I want to see her ID. Again, I’m not only unclear on the motivations, but also I’m starting to doubt the authenticity of the actions and reactions altogether.
So, we’re at the end of this storyline and it can’t be soon enough for me because it’s getting lonely around here (I suspect that less patient and dedicated fans gave up weeks ago). But not me -- I’ve suffered through the recycled storyline and fanwanked my way through muddy character motivations, and at this point, the only thing I’ve got to show for my time and energy is some amazing performances from Stephen, Mary Beth and Tamara. That and some tiny shred of hope that I’ll still get my satisfying ending -- my pretty little package that was so hard-fought. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it has to be nice -- it has to be authentic. I expected to see Steve guilt-ridden over what he’s done and I wanted to see Kayla mad. I want to see them at least discuss it...work through it...be better because of it. You know, the payoff.
Fade to black. That’s a wrap. What? Wait. That can’t be it. There’s got to be more. You asked me to hold on and I did. You asked me to wait and see, and I did. Now what?
You know, I’ve talked with lots of fans that are mad. Some that are just sad. But what scares me, because it hits a little to close to home, is those that just don’t care anymore. The cumulative result of the past two years wore them down, but this took them out for the count. I understand that...heck I’m almost there myself. But, I thought I’d give this one last ditch try.
Again, I don’t claim to know your job or understand the pressures you must face. But, as a marketer, I think I can relate...at least on a basic level...to what’s asked of you. You’re asked to help promote a show through the marketing its characters, much like I’m expected to promote a company by marketing it’s products. What I don’t understand is how a storyline like this accomplishes anything. It didn’t make either of your two “name-brand” characters any stronger in the minds of your consumer...and it certainly didn’t boost your ratings. Maybe the whole point was of this was to introduce your new product, Ava...but I’m not sure that viewers are feeling the love there either. Moreover, in what world is it wise to to tear down two tried and true products for the sole purpose of pushing a new one?
I know, I know...it’s just a soap opera. Then again, if that’s true, why do I care. Good question.

Thank you mlynnd. At first I thought this storyline would be about two old and dear friends who are married to Brady's. I was expecting to see Steve and Hope working together to figure a way to escape, using their wits and fighting skills. I loved how Hope used her training and cop psychology on Ava. I thought Ava was interesting, she maybe crazy, but she's not stupid. When that didn't pan out, I stuck by it because of the talented actors, old and new. But after today, all I can say is what a waste of talent and what could have been a great storyline. So is this why Shelle sailed of the Days canvas. In the worst exit I've ever seen. I am sticking with the show because I love the actors. They do an incredible job with the scripts they are given. Please rectify the mess this storyline has been turned into. My suspicion was that the other motive for this storyline was to show that Steve made a deal much like Sami supposedly did, and how Kayla's reaction to the deal was to forgive and forget. Gosh, I hope I'm wrong. I will still support you as the headwriter of Days, because you are writing a great storyline, so far, that involves Victor, Philip, and John. I admit to hating the Stax incest is okay storyline, and The EJ redemption story. I would like to see EJ redeemed, but the way it's been played out, it's just to easy. James is a great actor. He just needs better material. I hope this didn't come across as a rant. I guess what I really am trying to say is allow the characters to drive the stories, not the plots.

Originally began watching in 86' and took a 10yr break, then began watching again in 12/07. I really want to say thank you for all you have done so far in writing for Days. I am so pleased with how the show has turned around. I am loving that the storylines are more character driven rather than plot driven. I am thrilled to see so many of the characters & cast being utilized in the storylines, & i'm especially pleased to see the older characters&cast of the show getting a chance to shine. I have to say that for the most part i'm happy with the storylines w/ the exception of the Ava storyline. I found it very hard to really get into it bc to me the way that Bo, Hope, Steve, & Kayla were handling things and reacting to it were just not the way that they should. Bo& Hope are excellant cops and they are way too smart to let those people overpower them. At this point it's neither here nor there though. One thing I would also like to express dissapointment over is that after all that has happened to Hope in the past few months first w/ the plane crash;papa Shawn's death;Shawn's funeral; Bo's illness, surgery & recovery, and now the kidnapping, that her father Doug and stepmother Julie have been absent from her life and from Salem. I know that Hope is strong, but not that strong. She needs the support of "her" family too. So bring back Doug & Julie. Please give it some thought won't you. I appreciate all that you have done. I really think that the writing is the best it's been in over a year. I love John & Marlena and can't wait to see where their relationship goes and where things go with the "new" John and how his "new" personality develops and how finding his old identity or not goes. John's dialogue has been very entertaining since they have returned from Ireland. Keep it up. It's nice to see Marlena getting some sarcasm & humor too. I totally love Anna & Tony and "love in the afternoon." The scenes at the office, at Anna's with the "beauty mask", at the Dimera mansion, & at Chez Rouge have been senstional. Very hillarious and full of sexual tension. Very Hot, Hot, Hot. Love Max & Stephanie---let's see more. Love Daniel/ Chelsea/ Kate. Let's see more. Want to see more of Abe & Lexie too. Roman needs a lady too. Lets get Chloe back w/ Brady or Phillip in the meantime. Lets hear Chloe sing some more too....incredible voice. Would like to see Victor and Caroline together too. I am not going to be another Ej/Sami/Lucas post..go anyway you want with that mess..I just want to let you know that I hope you have a very thick skin for all of the negative posts you are going to get. I am NOT one of them. I think you are doing a great job with the mess you have be handed. I will put my two little cents into one thing..I love the Chelsea and Daniel pairing..even if others don't .. Storylines are too long, you begin to loose viewers. I love Days but its hard to continue to watch everyday when you know 2 weeks from now, the episode has gone from morning to afternoon, so you havean't missed too much of the what is going on.
Max and Step there is nothing wrong with that relationship. They are not related in anyway.
The point being is Max is adopted and not related. I think they are great together and hope DoOL's keeps them together.
I also think Ej would be good for Morgan and that the truth needs to come out about who shot Ej I know right now everyone believes that it was Lucas personally I think it's going to come out soon that it wasn't Lucas at all and that he was covering for his son. If you think back to when Sami found out that their son knew what happened it left hints ...so the million dollar question is when is the real truth going to come out and when is Lucas going to be set free.
The other thing is that it was telling in sneak peaks that Abe and Lexis is having problems again needs to stop. I'm soooo sick of them being on and off together and to find out that its happening again is a real let down.

You have shown no respect nor undertanding of the best character of Days history Steve Johnson. For that alone you have caused me great alarm. 1.Brady, who is a drug addict and wants now a divorce is unbelievable. I am a fan of Broe and I would always but you destroy a love so pure between these two. When there was Bricole, I never support that, he make me sick. No alchemy although Kyle Lowder is married with Arianne Zucker. Brady and Chloe are SOULMATES and belong TOGETHER. By destroying this incredible couple you lose all the fans of BROE!!!
2. I don't want to see anymore Phloe. Philip and Chloe should be friend and nothing else. Philip should be with someone new.
3. Why Sami is with EJ?! No, that I don't like EJ but she was raped by him and then he become her husband. I have never seen in my all life a victim marry her rapist. Maybe in your world?!

I wanted to tell you how much more I've enjoyed the show the last couple of months. I've really enjoyed seeing the veteran actors have storylines with some meat to them. It's always nice to see John and Marlena get some quality airtime. I've also enjoyed Arianne Zucker returning to the show. Her dialog is great, and she is brillant at delivering her lines. I laugh at loud while watching so many of her scenes. I also wanted to mention that I've become quite interested in the Philip and Chloe storyline again. I admit that I liked them years ago, but I'm excited to see how these characters might evolve into a relationship that is more mature...more grown-up.
i have tried to give you a break i watched this ava storyline hoping you would show some of what steve went through his missing years and show how him and kayla are true soulmates but instead i get to see patch and ava so called love story and makes me sick to my stomach because steve only loves kayla and he would never cheat on her why does the story always have to be a exlover

Put Morgan and Philip together eventually. I love every scence they are in. It is the only reason I stated watching again because a friend said I had to see this potential couple and wow I liked what I saw. Just give them time to grow don't push them in bed right away.

I have issues with a lot of your storylines. But I do tune in for Phloe. It's the only thing that keeps my interest in the show. Please don't pair Philip with Morgan. She really isn't mature enough for him, and that whole Souther Belle routing annoys me. Honestly it's like she's a replacement for Belle Brady.f Ejami just disgusts me, and the whole Ava storyline just needs to die. It's taking forever and it's way to central to the show. Also please let that whole Daniel/Chlesea thing die. It creeps out the majority of the fans. Do you know most people call him Dr. Statutory? Yeah, kill this please. Hi Dena, I am a Steve and Kayla fan. The only reason I watch DOOL is because of Stephen and Mary Beth. I like Tamara too but she needs to be paired with someone else. I hope you have scenes with Steve and Kayla that will address what happened when Kayla caught Steve with Ava. As a fan, I felt cheated that there was no reaction from Kayla about what she saw in that bedroom. Also, I hope you aren't going to have Steve and Kayla changing diapers all summer because that would be a waste of Stephen and Mary Beth's talents.

I am looking forward to next week and the birth of Steve and Kayla's baby. I read Mary Beth Evan's interview that their scenes made Ed Scott cry. They are truly talented and the reason I watch. I also agree with the comment Mary Beth Evans made in the interview that there needed to be a meeting of the minds between Steve and Kayla over what we fans have named Black Friday. As she said, Kayla is owed it and we as fans are owed it. It is too signficant to ignore. It needs to be addressed and I look forward to you doing so consist with their characters, their love and the fans love of them.

I am so sorry that you have to be subjected to some very terrible post and the spamming. I came over to read some of them because I read on a fan board that there was a plan to spam your blog with some very bad rather ugly post about the Dec 29th epi. I guess some lumi fans were going to post like they were ejami fans and leave all sorts of horrible posts. I guess you can tell that this fan base war thing has gotten out of hand. I think the best thing to do is cut off the argument. I think the best way to do it is make Dec 29th a moot point. Take away the Debate. Clean up Hogan's mess! And write it so there is no doubt as to what happened if it was rape then I guess you will have to let the talented Mr. Scott go - his character would be forever tainted and you would have just saddled a very talent actor with a bad storyline choice or you could backstory it. Give EJ a motive - a stronger motive like he either got Sami pregnant or Sami was the next Brady to die. When Sami decided to betray EJ and leave with Lucas, Stefano's goons were told to kill Sami, the cave in at the cabin was no accident Sami was the target. But Sami didn't die and EJ begged Stefano to give him one more opportunity to get Sami pregnant and EJ was told where he could find Sami. EJ had to make the deal, had to see it through, Sami's life depended on it. That Dena I think would end the war!

I am a HUGE John and Marlena fan and I feel like all I've been left with recently are EMPTY promises! Their fans have waited LONG enough for a LOVE story and have been really patient. It really hurts us when we see Steph and Max have a scene using strawberries and whipped cream when we have LITERALLY waited YEARS for it with J&M. Dee and Drake aren't getting any younger and we want to see them in a full love story ASAP!!

I am so turned off to Days right now for you destroying my favorite couple. You have turned Brady into a drugee and Chloe is coming across as a skank. Using sex to get Philip. Both Brady and Chloe have been destroyed. There fans have stuck by this couple for 8 years now. Maybe you need to read up on history, because Broe are soulmates. Brady would never ask her for a divorce, and Chloe would never leave Brady. She would not have let his drug problem get to where it is at now.

Thanks for blogging. How do you have time to write with your family life? They say that patience is a virtue but I need to work on this myself. LOL! Your family sounds great. Let me say that I have been watching "days" since I was 4 (1979) and have seen a lot of people come and go. I always enjoy the storyline of John and Marlena and Bo and Hope no matter what it is. However the one I am especially enjoying is the Chelsea and Daniel storyline. I am sure there a lot of Chelsea and Daniel haters out there but they need to give it a chance. Shawn Christian and Rachel Melvin have great on-screen chemistry that I have not seen in a very long time, not since Lane Davies and Nancy Lee Grahn (Mason/Julia from Santa Barbara and Cameron/Alexis from General Hospital). What do you do when you have writer's block? Again, the writing is just awesome. If you could pass along to the whole entire cast and crew that I never get bored with "Days". The writing and the cast are just excellent. Next month (July 2008), I plan on taking a vacation to California and hope I can tour the "Days" set. I have never met a celebrity so maybe I might get to. Probably not possible but if you could also pass along this little note to my current favorite cast members that would be great. Also, congratulations on everyone's emmy nomination!

I just wanted to start out by saying that I have been watching days since I was 3 going on 4 years old (1978-1979). A lot of cast members and characters have come and gone but I hope that you two stay for as long as you can. I am never sure what to say in a letter to a celebrity. LOL! The closest I have come to actually talking to a celebrity was when I was on myspace instant messenger talking to one of the twins that played “Carrie” on Little House. Anyways, I just think you two are very talented and have great on-screen chemistry. I have recently joined a few forum boards out there as well as Rachel’s official website. Some of the forums really crack me up. I didn’t realize how some of the fans are really addicted or just down right insane LOL and some just despise certain storylines. Sad to see this blog is over dominated by Lumi vs. Ejami fan wars. It has become the Hatfields vs McCoys, not just here but they pollute every other Days messageboard and blog on the internet. Neither group seems to have a firm grasp on reality and the bad blood between them runs deep. Frankly, it seems to be more about "winning" than anything else. I myself never thought I would see the day that I would fast forward Sami scenes, but it has come to that. I find the character unwatchable and unrootable. Frankly, I think Sami needs to be alone. Put Lucas and EJ with other characters, please. End these fanbase wars. Please. EJ is my favorite character on the show, but he was far more interesting as a bad boy. I miss the good old days when EJ was evil, scruffy and sexy. Give him his mojo back and put him with a female worthy of his attentions and will love him for him - good and bad. Give Lucas another love interest too. I'm waiting to see if he has chem with Chloe. well, the writing for DOOL sucks. There is ZERO consitency for almost every storyline except for Jawn, God bless him. He's the best thing going for DOOL now, except for EJ. EJ and Jawn are the only reasons I watch DOOL. I hope you have better writing in store for August, buecause I see July looking dim and boring. We, the viewers, are not stupid and we actually have good memeories and if there are some that don't have good memories, well we have youtube. So don't insult our intelligience with weak storylines and expect us to forget past stories for the sake of just change or ending fan wars. Have some balls, write what sells and what brings in new viewers. At one time that was Ejami, now it might be just EJ and Jawn. Will TPTB ever learn?
Dean, please put Sammi and EJ together once and for all. Also, I love the story line with CHelsey and Daniel...they are great together...NIck is such a nerd. You do need to put John and Marlana back together and quit with the laboratory line and his physco story line...days is moving along much too slowly for all of your devoted fans.

Days of Our Lives may be dying a slow death worthy of the best soap opera tragedies ever filmed. Can it be resuscitated?
This beloved soap opera has been a staple of daytime TV for over four decades. Finding itself in such troubled waters now is devastating for cast and fans alike.
Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn Lost in the Latest Negotiations
In November of 2008, NBC reached an agreement with Sony Pictures to keep Days of Our Lives on the air for another eighteen months. Longtime DAYS vets, Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans) and Drake Hogestyn (John Black) are out, as is co-executive producer, Ed Scott, fired last April. Such major changes can reinvigorate a flailing program or deal it a deathblow.
The Gutting of Salem Affects Loyal Fans
The loss of cherished characters leaves gaping holes in the population, and the remaining residents of the fictional Salem suddenly find themselves forced into conversations with people they have no reason to associate with. These interactions consume minutes but add nothing to the characters’ lives. Lesser characters now get more screen time but no material with which to make the most of it.
Loyal fans are flooding Internet message boards with their disappointment and distaste. The loss of Shawn and Belle, Jack and Jennifer, Marlena and John and other core Salemites, along with the reduction of screen time for Bo and Hope, Patch and Kayla, Roman, Abe, Caroline, Victor and other vets, has left DOOL littered with super-couple offspring and newcomers who have short contracts and no future. The characters that remain are routinely stripped of any hint of likeability via scripts that plunge them into unnatural situations and unbelievable pairings. If the viewers don’t care about the characters, a soap opera fails.
Writer’s Block Hurts Cast and Viewers
Days of Our Lives suffers from many concerns, but no issue looms larger than that of stale writing. The cast is the face of the show, but the writers are the heartbeat. If the writing flatlines, so does the soap. The best writing in recent memory aired during the writer’s strike that began in November 2007 and ended in February 2008. DAYS came alive. With the actors and actresses having meaty words and sharp action to hang their talents on, the storylines moved and upcoming episodes were eagerly anticipated. Then the strike ended and Days was soon back to the repetitive, uninspired material that keeps the characters one-dimensional and mired in soap opera quicksand.
Fumbles at the Top
Executive producer, Ken Corday, Sony Pictures and NBC have all fumbled the ball.
Agonizingly slow, sub-par writing is accepted as the norm, and even when an interesting new character is introduced, he or she is ultimately sacrificed. Nick and Morgan were two recent characters who brought something fresh and alive to their scenes. But both were given the boot while frivolous characters with few redeeming qualities, like Melanie, were given the green light. With each such misstep, the fans grow more disenchanted.
Saving a Once Great Soap
DAYS deserves to be rescued, but if the show is to be saved, the writers, producers, owners and network, must recognize important differences and act on them. There is a subtle but vital difference between slow and plodding. There is a glaring difference between bland and colorful. Failing to address those differences is what keeps DAYS clinging to life support.
The Danger Remains - Is the Sand in the Hourglass Running Out?
Recent rating upticks in the 18-34 and 18-49 women’s demographic may prove to be the final nail in the coffin if those successes are viewed as validation. Such an assumption may lead to even more complacency until all that is wrong with DAYS sneaks up on the unsuspecting powers-that-be and delivers the fatal blow once and for all.
If a blackjack player fails to hit a 16 when the dealer has a face card showing, then goes on to win the hand, it reinforces his instinct to hold on to that 16 the next time the same scenario presents itself. But in the long run, as any successful blackjack player knows, that’s just bad playing. A hand or two may be won, but the odds are deeply stacked against survival in the long run.
Such is the danger for Days of Our Lives. Those in charge have forgotten what really works and are making decisions that plant the seeds of demise. And just like the owner of the badly played blackjack hand, unless meaningful changes are made, Days of Our Lives may be just a few grains of sand away from finding itself flat broke and out of the game.
BRAVO, Marlene G. Well said. Well said!!! All the characters we know and love have been axed. And by doing so, the "Powers that Be" are cutting their own throats. Nobody to blame for DOOL's death but themselves. Nighttime television is pretty much DEAD with all the stupid and ridiculuous "REALITY TV", (geared for the teenie bopper group), police series, hospital series. I always thought, atleast, there was one bright spot on tv and that was DOOL and the characters of John & Marlena. This Classic Couple can never, ever, be replaced, no matter how much the writers try to indear other characters to viewer's hearts. It will NEVER happen !! I'm so sick of EJ & Nicole & Melonie!!! No reason to watch television at all, anymore. Shame on the writers. Shame, shame, shame.
I wanted to run something by you, what if Nicole managed to get the baby Sami puts up for adoption, it would be interesting when Tony convinces EJ to make sure the baby is actually his because of his suspicions and lo and behold after Nicole almost confesses they find out EJ really is the babies father, ironic because the reason Sami puts her baby up for adoption is to keep EJ from raising the baby she is carrying now, of course someday everyone finds out the truth and Sami and EJ get together in the end, but not until the audience is chomping at the bit to see them together, lots of twists and turns, could be pretty intense don't you think.
please do not get rid of JOhn and Marlena. You need good story lines with them bo and hope And what is it with Chloe can't she keep her pants on? that is just a stupid story line! Get Lucas and Sami back together. Not Sami and her rapist... Daniel sleeps with anyone come on women would be running now that the woud is out grandma Kate and granddaughter yeck!! But a good story line would be what happen to Steve and Kayla'a baby when it disapeared when Steffeno was running loose in the hospital? humm do they have there real baby?

I have been a fan of Days of our Lives every since Julie gave up David for adoption. Most of your current fans probably don't even know that Julie ever had any children of her own. Why didn't she and Doug ever have any other children?
I realize you probably have already know where the relationship with Sami and Rafe is going but I thought up a few other plots that may go along with yours. If any of these sound good to you, feel free to use them.
Nicole could talk in her sleep and tell EJ that he is Sydney's father but that she isn't her mother. Since the DiMera anger is starting to show up in EJ, he could force Nicole to admit the truth, even to the extent that she overheard Sami tell the nun that she didn't want EJ to ever know that Sami was pregnant. Between the two of them they could agree to stay together to ensure that Sami not suspect that she has Mia's baby and Nicole has stolen Sami's baby. Nicole could convince EJ that she knew about Sami's efforts to keep EJ away from his child and therefore decided to do what she had to so that EJ could raise his own child. EJ would agree to allowing Nicole to stay with him as compensation for her having gotten his child away from Sami. In the meantime, EJ could repeatedly have dreams and daydreams about the night Sydney was conceived. The more he thinks about her, the more he could be falling for her, again.
During this time, Sami could keep remembering Nicole's reaction when Sami came to pick up Johnny. She could also start thinking about how much Sydney looks like Johnny and doesn't look at all like Nicole. A stranger, in the park, would make a comment about how much Johnny, Alli, and Sydney look alike, especially something that people have commented that Johnny and Alli inherited from Sami. This would have to be something that Nicole doesn't appear to have. It would have to be something that Sami would hear due to the fact that Sami runs into EJ at the park. Just enough insidences to make Sami suspect that Sydney may not be Nicoles baby. Then, out of the blue, the baby-broker doctor would be meeting another of his so-called patients at the park also. After the doctor says hello to EJ, EJ would tell Sami that he had delivered Sydney and that Sydney had stopped breathing when she was born. All of these added together would make Sami suspect a baby swap since she already knows that she and Nicole had their babies on the same day. She wouldn't say anything to EJ about her suspicions because of not wanting him to know about her baby.
Instead she could talk to Rafe about it. He already has feelings for Sami and these feelings grow as he helps her to prove her suspicions. He could get angry at Sami when she lets him know that she has swapped baby information and kidnapped a baby herself. Eventually Sami and Rafe could discover that they are each others soul mates and start planning a wedding. She and he could actually get married after he proves that Sydney is her baby. When it is proved that Sydney is Sami's baby, she would be granted custody because Rafe will divulge the fact that EJ helped cover up Nicoles having kidnapped Sami's baby. In exchange for not reporting EJ's involvement tothe police, EJ will agree to let Sami have custody of Sydney, so that he doesn't loose his ability to practice law.
After Sami finds out about her biological child, Nicole could attempt to her to leave Salem, with Sydney, so she doesn't loose "her" baby. The tears and make-up would blur Nicoles' vision and cause her to wreck her car. Even though Sydney would be strapped into a carseat, she would be injured. Nicole would have been in such a rush to leave that she does not fasten her seatbelt. During the crash, Nicole will hit her head and temporarily loose her memory and think she and Brady are still a couple. Brady is angry about Nicole swapping babies but his soft heart causes him to spend time with her while she is in the hospital to keep her calm so she will recover sooner. He opts not to remind Nicole that they are not a couple and that she is engaged to EJ DiMera. Daniel tells Brady that this information could be such a shock to her that she may loose her memory and never regain it. Daniel asks Brady if he would go along with her belief and let her think that she and he are together. Brady agrees and he and Nicole fall in love, again. The baby would need blood and in the testing for the transfusion, a DNA test is done. Since Sami has worked at the hospital, she will log onto the hospitals computer system and match the DNA which proves that Sydney is Sami's daughter.
Even though Nicole has repeatedly told Mia never to call her back, she will still call frequently to check on her baby. Since Sami is finding out that Sydney is hers, she starts to worry about who the other baby has for parents, she wants to know but has become attached to her and doesn't want to give her up. She defenitely does not want to turn her over to Nicole. In Nicoles condition, she doesn't remember having been pregnant. She just remembers the doctors telling her that she would not be able to have a baby because of her gun shot wound. Sami convinces Rafe to help her find out who the biological parents are to Mary. She gathers a mouth swab for DNA testing. The test reveals that she is related to Sami and Lucus but not close enough to be their child. In the time while Nicole was dealing with Mia, she saw a picture of the baby's father, but was never told his name.
Will comes home telling the family that he is coming to meet his new sisters and brother. Actually, he has discovered that the girl he met in Europe came back to the United States shortly after their one night together. After numerous conversations with the other people he met when he met her, he finds out that she is from Salem and has gone home. She hadn't told anyone she was pregnant. Since she had decided to give the baby up for adoption, she hadn't even told the baby's father, Will.
this is what days should do.. put ejami together..nicole and brady i love them together just as much as i love ej and sami together.. max and chelsea..chloe and philip..I really dont care who stephanie ends up with she is a bored to me..I like to see someone in melanie life..bo and hope of course..roman and kate..and with regards to rafe I am not sure whom should be with him.. Maybe you can hired the one who play Sheridan on passions to come to dool and be with him..I just dont see him and Sami being as good as ej and her..And Rose I am so glad your not the one writing dool.. I am disgusted enough with how Dena is writing days..

If you do get your ideas from the message boards, could you please consider the pairing of Daniel and Brady aka Dandy? They are a hit sensation on the NBC.com forums and are bringing in more interest, posts, and discussion than any current couple. Plus, this pairing would be a breakthrough for Days and will at the same time bring in lots of publicity. Please consider it Dena!

Please we have waited a long time for Ejami - give us the great Ejami couple that we have been waiting for. Quit driving us crazy by putting Sammi with Rafe - the only way I can stand that pairing is in my belief that Rafe is just a speed bump on the road to Ejami.
BRING BACK MARLENA &JOHN! Here's a storyline: Sami goes to the church to stop EJ's wedding, gets hit by a car, critical condition, loses her memory (happened before), EJ rushes to her side, Marlena comes home to help Sammi with her kids and memory loss, John is bothered by Nicole's baby looking like Sammi's kids. Nicole gets drunk because EJ is staying by Sammi's side at the hospital and says too much to John about the baby, he eventually figures it out..... Bring back Marlena & John! Nicole runs to Brady. Sammi's memory loss causes her to befriend Stephano. Stepheno has a change of heart towards Sammi.
Saw a few episodes of "Confessions of a Teen Idol" and thought it would be great to see a few of these guys on DAYS!...Christopher Atkins would make a good guy friend/doctor co-worker for Daniel. He has that same "surfer look".
Or maybe Adrian Zmed as a new flame for Kate! He could be the backer for her new show.
I would love to see someone give Kate a run for her money! Bring on "Sheridan" from Passions. Hook her up Rafe (also from Passions). Rafe needs a better storyline! Currently boring. Sheridan could be the sister of Zmed's character. She runs the studio. Embarrasses Kate....
As I mentioned above, bring back Marlena & John to help Sammi with memory loss. Reading the blogs, seems like Days has lost a lot of fans since M&J left.
Hi, I love Days of Our Lives and I wanted to ask a question about the actor who plays Elvis. Does he have Tourrets Syndrome? My son has it and I noticed that he blinks his eyes a lot like during certain takes. Also, I love what anonymous sugessted about Sami losing her memory. That whole story line is great!!
I've been watching Days of Our Lives for the past 35 years. I have to say...that letting Kayla, Patch, John and Marlene go...plus Belle and everyone else......has absolutely RUINED Days. I cannot understand why you, as a writer ...would let this happen. Over the years, you come to look upon these people as friends. They come into your home every day. WHY would you want to sabotage your own job by ruining this Soap Opera that has been so great for so long????
Sometimes, we have to admit that we've made a huge mistake. Are you big enough to do that? I, along with many, many others.... feel you should rethink what you've done. Maybe it's not too late to save Days. But, going down the path you're going, I'm sure it wont be long before Days of Our Lives......is just a memory.

Lucas devastated goes to his slut of a zombie wife for comfort and finds her in bed with Dr.Pervis.
Lucas has finally had hit rock bottom goes off on Chloe and Dan. Dan will beat Lucas up for messing with his Ho.
Then Lucas will hit the bottle badly sober up and leave Salem forever.
Kate thrilled that Lucas no longer is married to his slut wife or has any ties to Sami jumps for joy. For this is surly a Days miracle. She is so happy she goes and has her self a drink at the cheating heart where low and behold Dr.Dick Baker is nursing a beer. The casually talk and Dr.baker asks her for a good time Kate says what the hell. Doc says how much she says its on the house.

I have watched DOOL since it first came on and watched actors move on and return and now, for my storyline if you want to read it. I think now that EJ is suing Sami for full custody of Johnny. Sami could have a DNA test done to prove that EJ is not the father and she is not the mother of Grace. Now, who is the real father of Grace or Sydney? I think it is time to reveal who the real parents are of both babies. Who is the father of Mia's baby? It has never been revealed. If Will was Grace's father, it would be a good storyline. At least, Nicole would get caught in her own trap. Please do that now. I am getting tired and bored of the same ole stuff. Of course, being that Nicole and Stefano know the truth, they would find a way to keep everyone from finding out the truth. Now, wouldn't that blow up in both of their faces if it turns out that Lucas is the father of Sydney and then, that would really shock Sami. It is time for Sami to find out the truth about what Nicole did to Sami in switching the babies. Okay, now you have my suggestions.
Good Luck on trying to keep everyone happy. I still would like to see EJ and Sami back together even tho, you have her and Rafe together. I used to watch Galen on Passions. He was always kept from the one he loved. I don't think EJ will let them be happy as he loves Sami and not Nicole. If Nicole loses EJ, she deserves the price she has to pay. She is evil and is always scheming. It is time for her to lose.
I have a husband, 5 children and their spouses, 8 grand-children, 4 step-grandchildren and that makes a good bunch of things always going on in our family.
