How Many Episodes...

There will be 17 episodes this season, we're already shooting 14. When we get off this call, we're going back to writing the season finale - that will probably be our biggest finale yet. Not the end of the show, just the end of the season. The interesting thing about our finales is we try to shake up the characters for the following season.

"Taking over" for Tim Kring

Tim left big shoes to fill, but with Kathy McCormack we are trying to keep up the high quality that show has always had. It's been exciting for us to move the characters forward. What's great about the show is that it is always changing. I think we've been able to take the characters on a great ride this season. As for Tim, he's certainly got his hands full with his big hit, "Heroes", but he's still part of our scene and we talk to him all the time.

Crossover Episodes

Jordan and Woody appeared on Las Vegas in what was originally going to be a crossover, when our shows were supposed to launch at the same time. Fortunately, the storylines were very separate, so Las Vegas could use their part early when they aired. Our part will air in February sweeps.
We hope to post the original ending on NBC.com which bridged the two shows. This year we have Josh Duhamel and Molly Simms visiting Boston for the crossover. There are no other crossovers with any other shows planned this season.

Network Support/Pressure

The network does not pressure us. They have been our biggest supporters and our creative partners in the show.

Jordan based on a real person?

No. There was no one specific. Tim Kring has said he simply wanted to create a character that
would fill the role that was usually reserved for men on TV. He wanted her
to be tough and flawed and willing to do anything in the pursuit of justice.

Jordan's Trouble

Someone asked what Jordan could come up with to make Macy's hands full more than they are already! The answer is that Jordan will face a challenge that she's never faced before.

Typical Day for Producers...

It's extremely tough work. ;)
A typical day we work on breaking the story of the episode - which entails a number of writers in a room beating out a story. Making sure that each episode is prepped and keeping track of production. Often times we're pulled in a lot of different directions from watching rehearsals on set to sitting with the editors going over episodes we've already filmed, to going over scripts that are about to be filmed. the interesting thing about television is that once the season starts, we're in constant production. We shoot a new episode every 8 days and have a script ready in the wings for the following week.

There's also lots of coffee, a pool table and our assistants just got us a ping-pong table.

Macy's Future

In episode two, someone enters the morgue to question everything about how the morgue is run. And that will put Macy and the entire staff under fire for awhile. And Macy will have his hands very full with Jordan the second half of the season.

Do we go to fansites?

Sure, we love to know what the fans are thinking and saying and what they’re responding to. Some of the really die-hard fans we get to know well by reading their posts, and seeing what their particular likes and dislikes are. There are those on the show that do respond on the site – it’s fun to let those diehard fans know what we’re thinking. As to adjusting, I’d say it’s one of many ways we gauge what’s working and what’s not. In fact, we feel season six responds to a lot of the criticisms we read on the board about season five. But if we listened to everything on the fan boards, Jordan and Woody would have been a couple years ago, and we would have lost some great tension between them, a great push/pull, and I’m not sure their characters were ready for that then. Maybe at some point, but…

Max's Return...

Jill Singing...

We love when she sings in the episodes. As of right now, no plans for her to sing this season. Jill is working on a cd and we've heard the music, which is fabulous. We can't wait for it to come out.

The Paper Kate Handed Macy...

At the end of this episode...it was a request from the Governor's Office to keep her on staff at the morgue indefinitely. Because the Governor hired her, Macy can't fire her.

How do you keep a show fresh after 100 episodes?

What’s great about this show is that we have characters who are always evolving and changing. We look at episodes of our show as ways to illuminate those characters, so it’s not just coming up with a new murder or two each week, it’s finding stories that help our characters change and grow. All it takes is a newspaper to come up with new crime ideas, but what makes the episodes fresh is that we’re constantly looking to move our characters forward in their personal lives. Jordan of Season Six is not at all the same person as Jordan of Season 1 or 3 or even Season Five.
