I guess everyone is getting ready for Thanksgiving. What is everyone doing? Are you staying home cooking or going out to eat elsewhere? I think it's your big shopping day next Friday too?

So to answer your question, Dawn, we more often than not go to my sister's house around noon... which is great for me cuz she lives here and I don't have to travel far worrying about blizzards etc.
This year I am keeping it simple and making 2 big pots of dressing/stuffing for the event and bringing some stuff I have been baking and making.
My sis makes around 8 pies.
My other sisters and brother bring salads, old family favorites and new.
We do traditional for Thanksgiving. Turkey, stuffing, potatoes, sweet potatoes, salads,... all the usual suspects.
Some years there is 15 people there, sometimes 30, we just never know.
Everyone eats then complains about how much they ate (I hate when people do that....just enjoy the feast unbutton your pants! HA!)
The football game is on TV and eventually we drag out the leftovers and make turkey sandwiches, again people saying they really are not hungry but everything was so good, yada yada. :o)

EMJAY- Your 2 big pots of stuffing sounds wonderful. I like the dark meat and stuffing and gravy and I'm happy!!! All your baked goods sound really good as well. Enjoy! I won't make turkey now until Christmas, but you make me want some now! LOL!

I get 2 Thanksgivings this year
the first one on
T-day with my daughter's in-laws
and the second on Saturday following T-day at my Mom's with my brothers and uncle and 1 sister-in-law and a cousin
both of these are in town so I don't have to drive far either, and my contribution (besides cleaning the windows) is making deviled eggs
and we always overeat too because it is always good food

When we think about our purpose here on the planet, we surely must all realize that we each have a mandate as human beings to be a voice for the children, to speak where they cannot be heard. Let us never have to stand before our Maker and answer why we did not fulfill this one simple obligation.
Anything that you can do to protect a child from harm, let there be no hesitation in you. We cannot allow this to continue to happen.

I will add my own, not having seen much of it other than the Oprah interview today.....
Even if you are not religious, you may appreciate this. I am Christian but not religious and even if I was not Christian I think I could understand the premise of helping those less fortunate........ (of course I would cuz I would still have my soul and perhaps a different religion.)
One version says.....
"And the King shall answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these my brothers, you have done it to me."
What this says to me is this:
How do you treat and or help those in need?
How do you treat and help the innocents whether it be a child or a person who is in trouble.
I will go as far as to even say this:
I watched Dr. Phil today. I was disgusted by how arrogant people treated waitresses, family members, etc.
Empathy is needed.
Care and love should not be a novel concept.

How do I treat ALL people. No matter their circumstance. Hopefully with respect and dignity and an ability to see a soul not a situation.

Actually, he must have been born earlier than August - he was adopted on August 24th - and would have had to have been at least 8 weeks old...but if he was being rescued...and was aparently at close to his full size, he must have been at least (6?) months old then...maybe he's closer to 8 months to a year old? Goodness how time flies!

I feel terrible I wasn't here yesterday when the Pop Quiz got posted. It was fun when we used to all do challenges on the weekends - with exciting prizes, but mostly just the fun of interacting together was what brought us all here. Looking forward to January - it's enough of a tradition here that maybe it will be just what we need to draw some of our regulars back on a daily basis.

I'm exhausted - I spent last night at the movie theater at the midnight showing of New Moon. For Twilight fans, it was a great show! But I didn't get to sleep until after 4:30AM, then I had to work until 7 tonight, so I'm beat. I wanted to say hello before heading off to bed. guess what?? I went yesterday to visit the neighborhood I was born in and got video of it. My old house, video to make a reenactment of my sledding accident that took my sense of smell, and played in the woods behind my house :)

I found out the house across the street is for sale! in our price range and has all we need. hrm. something to think about.

I am happier than I have been in a long time. I don't know if it's because I am away from Bill and on my own or what. I think this was sorely needed. He'll be here thursday morning I think. by train.

OH! and I found Beijing Bear! he had fallen under one of my parents chairs. He was in my backpack and fell out when I put it on the chair! I thought I'd lost him for good! he's been my travel companion since Beijing and has his own little travel blogs!

I hope this has made some people smile today :)

I was at Mom's yesterday cleaning windows and the two chandeliers, I got a workout, going up and down the ladder I lost count how many times, and then the arms and the windows whew I'm hurting today
but I still intend to go walking and do a little more in the garden, mother nature is way ahead of me, the crazy weather this year has something to do with it

I don't think I shared with you yet...Mom and I are going on a 7 day Princess cruise the first week of Feb. to celebrate her 89th birthday we will board in LA and go to Puerta Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas places I've never been yet so I KNOW I will have fun

We will not know anything in her course of action they will take, if any, my Mom said she will not do Chemo or radiation of its just gonna prolong 6 months or less. She already told us that. We go to the Oncologist on December 4, we will have the results of Liver Biopsy, and the MRI of her brain.

NANCY- You and your Mom will love the cruise. My husband and I did that cruise when we wanted a quick vacation close to home. It's a great way to see Mexico and still eat on the ship and not get sick. I think we ate in Puerta Vallarta and just had ommlete and bottled juice. In Mazetlan we went on a tour and had a meal with that and I was leary, but it was very good and didn't get sick. Bon Voyage.

Nancy- I try to cut my hair every 4 weeks. I have natural wavy hair and when it isn't short it waves and I can't stand it. I like it very short! I color it too. I didn't get it done though so it will wait until next weekend and that will be 6 weeks. I will be chomping at the bit by then. I'm with you Nancy that CRAIG can have his snow. I lived in Manitoba for 30 yrs and I've had enough. I can go up to Cypress mountain and get snow, but once I get there I realize why I moved to Vancouver. No snow! My begonias are still blooming in hanging pots. I also have winter pansies out my kitchen window in hanging pots. No snow for me and I don't want it either! LOL!

DEE- When you finish you will have to take pictures of your donkeys so we can see them. That will be cute I think.

What the heck was that? and Adam has the most amazing song out from the 2012 movie soundtrack that could have been fantastic. instead im left feeling like i had a bad acid flashback and was at Adam Ant concert. Dawn: Save on make good Nanaimo Bars ? hummm never tried them from there

Van Girl-Save Nanaimo bars are quite good especially when you don't have to make them. The yellow custard isn't like the one I've made, but it's still great and no fussing around. They were on sale last week, but hubby was with me and I had put 2 fruit cakes in the basket. It's just that I'm diabetic and when I have it at home it calls my name. They make really good slabs of date squares too!! Yummy!

DEE- On the West Coast they shut the feed down for Adam Lamberts last song. Too Racey? I went to watch it on Entertainment Weekly so I could see it. I was disappointed in he singing more though. I haven't watched the show as I was watching Amazing Race and videos, but caught the last song that they cut off!!!!

home made Nanaimo bars are sooo good, same as date squares, but maybe worth a try from Save on, as u said less hassle then baking them. I've never tired, I don't think, there fruit cake. Safeway use to have one I liked. See now u did it, you got me thinking Christmas baking lol. Oh have u ever tried the Nanaimo bar recipe with a mint flavour custard filling? I made them once, hmmm so so, not the same I didn't think.

Van Girl- I've tried them with Caluha mix and mint. I like the tried and true regualr ones, but Save On have different ones. You can buy them small or a large one. I used to do a lot of baking, but getting lazy I guess. When they are on sale I don't think you could make them for that price! Let me know if you try it>

Adam Lambert's performance was a disappointing mess. You want to be talked about for your skills, your talent, not for your lack of judgment. It was inappropriate for the venue and just came across as a vulgar attempt to shock. (They kept doing a promo of it throughout the show saying you would be talking about it tomorrow, so they can't pretend they didn't know it was going to be controversial.)
Frankly, I could not care less who Adam or any other performer locks lips with off stage, but I just feel like if you don't have the singing chops to pull of a performance that will have people talking about your talent, don't suck the face off your keyboard player in desperate attempt to make headlines. And seriously, seriously do not have somebody simulate oral sex on you during primetime TV, even if the wardrobe IS bondage themed and the lyrics are about pushing it to the limit.
I'm no prude and I'm certainly no homophobe, although that's what many will try to call those who criticize his performance. I simply feel it was in tremendously bad taste for the time and place. If I had been at an Adam Lambert concert (and there was a time -- prior to tonight -- that I might have gone, because I WAS a fan during AI) I wouldn't have batted an eye at what went on, but to see it on TV during the AMA's ... nope, I'm not buying it. Pure trash.
(And yes, I've felt the same way about some of Madonna's previous antics that were done simply to shock any time she decided to reinvent herself. And as much as I felt he was a musical genius, I sure did feel that Michael Jackson grabbed his crotch way too much for anybody that didn't have a bad case of the crabs!)

I didn't see the AMA show tonight but I have just watched (online) the Adam song. BedBug, I agree with you 100%, that was trash. Not for tv.

Mornin! I too had not seen the AMA on live TV but the videos on youtube are abundant. I’ve watched 1:30 of the full 4:15 and my opinion is split. What an awkwardness he’ll face the next few weeks. -or- The show will produce as much buzz as they intended. No press is bad press when you’re a star.

While I don’t think the crotch grind was either appropriate or even creative, someone did. A lot of someone’s did, apparently enough to make it through to the screen. Someone gave the ‘ok’ and now… the name “Adam Lambert” is appearing in viral droves.

For better or worse, just like marriage. God help him. Lol

Happy MONDAY, everyone! It's a short week, with a LONG LIST OF DELICIOUSNESS to look forward to on Thursday...and leftovers after that. Can't wait! It's one of my favorite meals, for sure. I made a batch of the pumpkin cookies last night - they turned out NUMMY - they are sooo easy. They taste best the next day, when the frosting has set in and they get more like little bites of cake - soft and delicious.

AMA's - I, too, was surprised (a little bit) to see Taylor win Entertainer of the Year...except for the fact that when I thought about it, she has been EVERYWHERE this year. I definitely wanted Michael Jackson to win it - this year will be remembered as his last...and would definitely have been a HUGE year for him if he'd been able to perform as he'd planned. But that little Taylor is just EVERYWHERE right now - so I guess if they use sales and "presence" as the guidelines I can see why she got it. I still think it should have gone to MJ, though.

Adam? Well - initially, I felt compelled to be excited that he was "equal opportunity" with the people upon whom he performed his "affectionate" choreography...but in the end, I have to agree - there would have beem a much better way to go about it. I, too, appreciated his talent on AI, but last night was just plain crazy. Like comparing National Geographic to the National Enquirer - he was definitely the "cheap" version of himself. Sad that the producers used him in that way...

Well, Adam got what he aimed for, publicity, you are all talking about him. So I will too :P~
as I watched him, I thought I like his voice and then the choreography came into play WTH, who put in all the body touching other peoples bodies touching at that?

I do seem to know most of the people in vids and who get brought up in videos. I guess if I think about it, many of the people were more Myspace colony maybe.
I happened to be someone who mostly always posted on myspace (cuz I liked the format there) but also tried to post and follow along here. I don't post on youtube much and also love the few people who post on ANT's official website.

I have been extremely fortunate to have spoken to ANT on the phone thanks to a contest I won and he did a vid of it.
I have not yet gotten the chance to meet ANT in person, but know I will.
Most of the people who were in Seattle last year seemed to be people I knew from Myspace but also some from here and other places.
THe people who were in NC last year were also people I know.

I don't know ANT's schedule etc unless I go look and see if it is updated on his website. I don't know things that are not posted publicly on his main blogs.
I guess I personally don't feel left out by that.
I have seen people through the years try very hard to become "besties" with ANT.
It mostly lands them flat on their faces. Splits the colony into "camps" even. It's sad.

I don't, however, think that if ANT happens to have Chris or Craig or whomever do things for "us" that they are higher up in the "colony love ratings", loved more by ANT, etc.
Some people have had the chance to be around him more. Lydia, for instance, was on a week cruise with him. Most of us have not had that chance.

I decided a long time ago that the colony and ANT are precious to me.

We all loved the days of ANT posting obsessively to us every day. I personally miss the pages and pages of posts on his myspace blog. BUT, things change.

I would never wish for ANT to blog everyday if, for instance, it is not in his ability,schedule, heart to be able to do right now.
I would not want any friend of mine to hurt themselves to make me happy.
So.
I guess I am saying, I know people are frustrated with the slow loading page. The lack of ANT face time. The feeling left out. Feeling maybe that ANT has colony people he knows or contacts more than others.
Well, of course that will happen.
He has thousands and thousands of people who contact him all the time.
I personally can't figure out how he deals with it.
Most don't "want" from him, but many do. would be hard to discern who is a friend and who just wants to use you for something.

The friendships I have made have changed my life.
Not just ones that have developed into "slumber party" friends, but even those people I don't know well, don't talk to weekly.

Emjay, do you ever get in creative thought where all you can see is colors and textures? i am obsessed with painting. cant make an even edge to save my life but oh i love painting. Tomorrow im going to Michaels craft store, after chiro and im just giddy. I swear i hear angels sing when i enter that store.

No matter what comes my way im able to just climb into my imagination and play. i can spend hours just imagining the palette and mixing colors. It is a magical world where all is possible. Like the Colony! ♥

No worries Dee - it’s all good. You don’t owe me anything - oh my god. I’m glad you mentioned it because I sometimes worry that this exact thing happens. Emjay’s post spoke for many of us, I think.

I was a myspace’r before the Mexico cruise last year when I first came to NBC. I knew there were Facebook people and other colonies spread out over different networks so when he mentioned people in videos that I didn’t recognize, it wasn’t personal.

I started going to the other areas he mentioned. The people seemed fun and if they were his friends, they were probably cool. It grew from there. Some people are exclusively on one site or another, while others jump around between all. It’s really all good.

File this under the category of "how do I get myself into these things?":
I was out to eat last night at a relatively new restaurant in town and the menu was no great shakes but the food was stupendous. So, I politely told the waiter that their menu was really underselling their food. Along he comes a bit later with ... "the chef." We converse a bit and by the time I leave I have committed to volunteer to rewrite their entire menu.
As you know, I'm such a foodie that there could not possibly be a more delicious assignment for me.
"Chef" stopped by my work today and dropped off a copy of the menu and all his handwritten notes about ingredients and preparation of each dish.
Crazy, huh?
So, at least I got a peek at what's in his absolutely amazing corn dip for tortilla chips. Have any of you ever dipped them in anything except salsa or perhaps an artichoke/spinach dip? I hadn't.
I don't know measurements, so I couldn't give it away if I wanted to, but this hot dip had some corn, garlic, diced onions and peppers, cream cheese, sour cream and a variety of spices. Oh, wow, did it make my taste buds stand up and shout!
(You didn't think I'd make it through Thanksgiving week -- one of the biggest food weeks of the year -- and not talk about eating, did you?)

Too much illness at my house so just stopping by to wish ALL of you a HAPPY THANKSGIVING in case I do not get back on here before then.

TERI This is the easiest recipe EVER:

1 box spice cake mix. Dump mix into bowl. Add one can pumpkin. Stir. That's it!
.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Spray nonstick Pam (or some such...) on cookie sheets
Drop in small spoonfuls (I make mine about 1.5" across) and bake for about 20 minutes. They will be firm when they're done.

Cool on a rack, then top with a "schmear" of Cream Cheese frosting.
.
Best to store in the refrigerator, and it's good to make them a day in advance, they taste best after they've been frosted for a while.
So YUMMY!!

Hello! I feel so out of the loop. Please know I am thinking of you all and sening love, hugs, and prayers.

I am pretty good. Will be heading to the doctor when I can get in...may need some sort of anti-depressant or something. Not sure what is "wrong" with me...very moody, extreme mood changes, very tired, etc. I have diagnosed myself with some sort of S.A.D. or Vitamin D defecient. We shall see...the whole thing is freaking me out to be honest. Although having just typed it all out for the world to see, it may not be so scary.

My boys are good. No health scares with my 3 year old in the past few weeks so that is nice. Just had a GREAT parent/teacher conference with my 5 year old and his teacher. Hubby is working hard at finishing his class for this semester.

Hi everyone! Ginger, the next chapter of BUCHANAN BRIDES IS UP. I think it is 39. I would guess it is since I am currently working on 40.

I've been depressed lately and have only wanted to escape into my story, so that's where I've been, both typing and thinking about it. I even lay awake at night plotting out the future as far as Jonathon is a 4 year old when his first "sight" happens.
.
I had to go back to narcotics to ease the pain. Oxycodin is a narcotic and I just caved in said give it to me, I can't take the pain any longer. I imagine I know what a dagger feels like sticking up thru the meaty part of your leg. It is excuriatingly painful and I get very grumpy to the point of tears.
.
My eyes are now starting to turn yellow, but it is still close to the edge so if I want to see it, which I don't, I've looked only once or twice, I have to pull the skin back.
.
I want a new little tatoo of a fairy, but no one will give it to me because of the Hep C. I guess they have a right to worry. I might accidently infect them. Plus my doctors have said that it would be foolish in my condition to take a chance on catching something else transmittable.
.
What I want most right now is a fawn pug. Not a puppy, but a potty trained one. A rescue of one who's family couldn't keep her or one that was abused and needs lot's of love would be nice. I have so much love I give to Darlin, she can't take it all. She squirms to get away. :) Yesterday I took her for her 6-8 week grooming appointment. Senior Citizens pay only $30.00. Once I get her passed the two doors she is ok. But getting her in that first door is a job. The groomer comes out and helps me. Then when trying to get her behind the counter I have to pick up Darlin's behind so she can't dig into the floor and help get her thru that door. Once she's past both doors she is such a co-operative baby. She always gets a good grade on her beauty report. She goes back Feb. 9th. I want to take her to see Santa, but I am not sure how that would work out. She's terrified of strange men. Maybe if Corey and David come with me we can keep her quiet and not too afraid.

I've been being interviewed about my time at the company that makes Dungeons and Dragons, or used to before it was bought out. When a guy from then found me on Facebook he wrote excitedly.... I've found you! I never knew I was lost. Apperantly I've been being searched for off and on for the last 2 years as the last of the orginal old timers. When I am see the finished copy, I don't when that will be, I'll publish it on My Space Blog in case some of y'all would like to read it. Jonathon, my D&D fanatic son is so proud. I just found out about a mini-con in Lake Geneva near here in early March and I am going primarly to get one of my still in the shrink wrap gaming modules for him from a good friend and frame it and a white con shirt which I will have my old timer friends sign for him. He told me Jeff Leason was awesome to give him the shirt as he yelled excitedly into the phone, and when I mentioned the shirt, I got a quiet heart felt "Your awesome mother".

It's a glorious snowy day here on the great northern plains.
I had an omlette and lefse for breakfast and am just feeling so thankful for so many things.

I decided that for me this year, I am doing online greetings rather than cards out to colony people and I hope those who I usually exchange with understand.
I figured out the money I would spend on my list for cards and stamps and gave the money to a friend in "financial survival mode" instead. It just makes more sense to me but I don't want people to think I am not reciprocating so we will see how it works out. I know there is something fun about getting "old school" cards in the mail.

I only know that for most of us here, Thanksgiving is not a celebration of the Pilgrams or whatever but a day to gather and be grateful for what we have. At least that's what I see.

ABOUT S.A.D.
does anyone know if the multi-spectrum lights you can buy most places WORK for SAD???? I am TERRIBLE in the winter and need to combat it this year.
I have 2 full spectrum floor lamps and wonder if those will do the trick. I have seen the "official" SAD lights but believe they are spendy.
Any input or people's knowledge about this subject would be appreciated.

I also agree with you about seeing negative stuff all the time.
I almost had to "hide" some facebook friends for awhile cuz they were constantly posting images of beaten animals or pitbulls post dog fighting.
My heart breaks anyway and it all got to be too much for me to bear seeing every day.

I think I've figured out why I am so blue. I miss my Jonathon very much and tomorrow is his most fave of all holidays. It's all the stuffing he can stuff into his belly that he loves, not to mention turkey. This is my second Thanksgiving without him. I've not seen him for over a year and half and I don't expect to see him until March 2011 when hopefully I'll be able to go down there. I have no idea what my liver will be like then. We can't go this year because we spent all our money paying off Corey's heart attack hospital bill. And I am in good enough shape to travel right now. I do talk to him a lot. He sent me a present on the computer yesterday. The theme song from the old TV program Greatest American Hero. He'd asked me if I'd ever seen it and I told him about the time Jennifer and I were in WIS Dells and it started playing in a store and I started singing and embarrasing her. Then about an hour later he called and said he left me a present on the computer. I told him I'd go look as soon as I finished watching the first Twilight which I can see why teenagers are crazy about it. I assumed it was the Download for Onocco Flow for my new phone. Nope it was the theme song and I sang just a happily as I could and then called him and thanked him. It was so much fun. I could hear the happiness in his voice. I love that boy so much. I wish I was as close to Steven as I was Jonathon. But I am not. I love him dearly and he me, but he is Jennifer's "boy".

Landon and Emmy are great. Emmy is almost 6 months old and cooing and gooing like crazy. Landon will be 4 in February and is VERY excited about Christmas. This is the first Christmas he has been really aware of the holiday. My boys are great and excited to have a few days off.

I was DEFINITELY ready for a break from work. It has been a stressful school year for sure.

I have been battling a severe sinus infection for about 8 weeks now. I have been on 4 different antiobiotics including two kinds at once. Long story short, they needed to do a cat scan. It was going to cost be $625 up front, with my insurance. I told them I couldn't afford that. Went back to the doctor today and told him why I couldn't get the cat scan. He took another xray and told me that the infection is really big, takes up the whole right side of my head, and hasn't changed at all the entire time. He said I will have to have surgery, but I have to get the cat scan done first. That is the only way for them to pinpoint what is causing the infection and why it hasn't cleared at all even after all the antibiotics. It could be impacted, a blockage, scar tissue, or tubes that are underdeveloped. But they can't tell without the scan. So, until I find a way to pay the co-pay, he's done all he can do...the scan is not done by him but by a diagnostic place. So, I am on daily antibiotics for the next 6 weeks to keep the infection from spreading. Until then I have to put up with the daily headaches and ear pain. Things will work out, just have to be patient.

I apologize for not being on here much. I am on facebook constantly and love it. This site is blocked at work now, so I have to wait until I get home to get on. On most work nights, I'm online just a short amount of time before I go to bed.

I swear the woman said, "Mom's not doing so well, so I got online at Walmart.com to look at caskets, they sell em now." One of the men said, " Well you don't have a computer." She said she went to the library. And....Grandma who looks like she's 98, is drinking a giant margarita...she almost choked on chips 3-4 times now. The casket lady just said, I'm buying a house. Is 17.9% a good interest rate?

Then my hubby discovered the seed mess and put sticky traps down baited with peanut butter. I told little mousey to run away! Save yourself!!! I think sticky traps are inhumane! Killing them in snap traps is cruel too but at least they don't suffer long!

So...just abit ago I needed to get the pumpkin cans from WAYYYYY back in the back. This cabinet is on the floor next to the refrigerator. It runs longer inside than the door opening. About 2 feet longer. It's dark and a double decker.

I reached inside to move aside the punch bowls and the huge Tupperware I never use anymore. The Arabic olives and spices. Then I heard this noise sounded like a cat trying to get out my way!

I slammed the door and haven't been back in the kitchen since!
