I am now on Dexter season 3 episode 1! When my daughter gets home later maybe we will watch some more.

Julie and Brent are having their bathroom (one and only) gutted and remodeled. It has gone over budget and over-time. As of yesterday no toilet and today no water! I've been keeping the kids almost everyday for over a week.
~
Gingerlicious is TIRED! I think I might be off tomorrow? Janine (my grand daughter) doesn't have school next w-t-f and Julie doesn't think the plumbing will be done by then either so I may have the grandgirls all next week too!

Jean- I'm so glad you and Corey are getting back to being healthy! I was so worried for you both!

This swine flu is scary! I'm unsure if I should advocate the shots to Julie for the girls. It is so confusing...
I do want all the biggin's to get theirs though! They are being big babies! I can't take the shot as it is cultivated inside of raw eggs and I am allergic to raw eggs.
I hope the U.S. doesn't come close to the death toll they have anticipated!

Ant, I am glad to see your shining face. I don't often write you because I know when you don't appear here for a time lots of other people e-mail you. I am still hoping that some day you will come to Madison WI and the other Jean and I can come and see you on stage. Madison is a big college town and from I can't tell quite progressive, I mean they even adopt people from little known countries in Asia to come and live there. Though I am impressed with Madison, I don't plan on going there again unless I have a VERY GOOD REASON, and you are about the only reason I'd go.

I am still in pain a lot and take Tramadol or something like that. It doesn't really do much except make the pain in my legs, thighs and back livable. I fear I am taking too many, but when I awaken in the middle of the night, like right now, I'd kill to have some relief.

Corey went gaming this evening and the long car ride to his friends hous just outside Milton hurt him, but he was so desparet to see his friends and Dungeons and Dragons that he toughed it out. I am taking him to work today. Oh I drove out there, learning the twists and turns because I can't stand the GPS he uses. I didn't get lost once and I went out there in the late afternoon while there was still sunlight and back for him in the dark. I memorized street signs and land marks. On the way home he just had to have the GPS on, and darn thing was wrong. Corey said, it said turn right here, to which I responded I didn't come that way. Finally when we got to the bridge that was closed he admitted that he did recognize it and that I was right and the GPS was wrong, but for about 15 minutes I kept hearing, it says turn here, to which my standard reply was, I didn't come that way, and I didn't. I didn't gloat a whole lot though.

Darlin is getting old. She now likes to lie down and eat her food. On the bed she used to walk to me to get her treat, now she scoots along unlong until she gets to me. We have to take her for her yearly visit to the Vet in early Nov, so I will talk to the doctor then.

Nancy I have to say, I am always glad to hear when people go to reunions. By default, I have become our class organizer and it is only fun if people go. It doesn't matter if people you knew are going. I have met classmates through reunions that now, are great friends.

Kandy, my NH neighbor! The leaves are really showing up nicely this year, don't you think? A perfect balance of cool evenings with the right amount of rain last summer has made vibrant colors for fall. Some years they suck, let's be honest. Heavy rain always ruins it too. Luckily - LUCKILY!!! - it has been nice and the colors are on display!!!!

It's energizing to my soul... one that tends to connect to the simple things of mother nature's design. Color is especially moving. Tones, shades and hues baby - hues!

Confession: Half and half has been finding it’s way into my black coffee recently. Is it possible to add (optional creamer) to my daily order?

Also I am being tormented by the Reese’s product known as “pieces.” It’s really not funny how they distract on the ride into town, the bastards. Orange, brown and yellow bastards - all of them.

While the truth is out, I should admit the rest… I am Canadianly thankful for being thankful, in a very Canadian way. Thank you!

Dawn, Teri - You have to check out this show called Battle of the Blades. It is figure skaters paired with hockey players. Like DWTS the hockey players have to learn a figure skating routine. This is like DWTS on steroids. These guys are swinging these girls around.

so fun to see Tie Domi and Claude Lemeux and Glenn Anderson doing these "dances". The commentating is funny too. Kurt Browning and Don Mclean host. Kurt is from here and his family all lives here.

It is on CBC tonight.

DEE- How did your turkey turn out yesterday? How did you make out with company?

Dawn - Yesterday was great. Everything turned out very well. Thats because Jack cooked. There was 10 people here and 8 dogs. The baby didnt even freak me out too much. lol. It was good. Trev didnt show though.

ALI-KAT- I watched all my CSI, NUMBERS, etc etc all this evening. I didn't get my cooking done. Stupid headache. Our furnace was off this morning so Shaf had to get the guys to re-light the pilot light. He did laundry and hung it out and he wanted to vacuum and I told him "You are on holidays!" So we had a nap instead, but the phone rang!!! Neighbour to talk to him. LOL!

DR DONNA- I made those pumpkin and spice cake cookies, but I had to bake them for about 30 min rather than 10 min??? Maybe I had them on too high of a rack??? They are good though.

Dang! Now I want turkey too!

GINGER- Your turn is coming in November for turkey day. I don't know why we have Thanksgiving in Oct other than to give us a long weekend in Oct as we get Nov 11th off. GINGER & BEDBUG- I just love cornmeal muffins. We used to be able to get Jiffy Cornmeal muffin mix or another brand, but we can't anymore. If we want cornmeal muffins we have to buy cornmeal and start from scratch!!!! So much work! LOL!

DWTS- I just loved Dmitry & Maya tonight with the Lambada!! OMG give me strength!!! I also loved Natalie and Alex. Donny & Kelly were good too. Derek Hough and Joanna were good, but him taking his shirt off did NOTHING for me. I like it better with a shirt on dancing!! LOL! Call me old I guess.

ALI-KAT- I'm joining you with the headache today. Really bad. I gave myself injection and ate cereal, but will have to go back to bed once it eases off. I told EB that I'm not doing my closets today. Head way too bad. He's going up to the library now to get his book to read. Yeah!!! OMG, to keep him busy is wearing me out!! LOL!

Well Crud! I missed Gingerlicious last night. There was so much good tv on last night i got distracted. till 7am. ugh. so much for chiro.

i think have had the hush puppy things. and i think cornbread is the stuff they have on corn dogs? Jack makes all these weird dutch dishes too. i have never heard of this stuff. but then he didnt know about my egg in the hole recipe either.

oh hey Ginger - You talk of this food that has me intriqued. can you tell me about it. something about stuffed grape leaves? what the heck are grape leaves? i dont know but sounds so good. a greek dish maybe?

Ali-Kat - There is really no nice way for me to say that i think joanna from dwts looks like a porn star. the fake boobs and lips. ugh. But Natalie is the understated beauty. I love watching her dance. Len seems to like the barbie looking girls. I cannot stand the hollywood fakeness. Why do they all want to look the same? and why does the rest of the world want to judge beauty same way they do? i dont subscribe to that way of thinking.

I think our bodies and faces tell a story. every wrinkle is a sign of age and wisdom. every scar i have is a memory. The scar on my nose tells me to slow down and not open doors so fast that i walk into them. The scars on my legs tell me to watch where im walking. The burn scars on my face and neck and arm remind me not to go near fires that may have a can in them. It all tells a story. and i wouldnt give up one single scar for "beauty". I love my story.. i wish everyone did.

Okay this is full on rant time. I have some of the most beautiful friends in the world. yet they dont know it. They say i have to lose weight, or grow my hair or have my brain operate perfectly so nothing bothers me. We are human. We are constantly growing, changing. We will never be perfect. We need to enjoy now. not after i get healthy, after i lose weight, after i get this done.

HI EVERYONE!!
I miss you terribly. It has been a crazy year and I don't see it easin up any. In the 10 years I have taught I have never worked so hard. Many new things, new ways to teach, and lots of the same issues from last year. Had a really bad day yesterday and it continued today. But I will try again tomorrow. It is so frustrating to hear "we can do better" and "you are doing a great job" in teh same breath. AARRGGHH!!!

I am sorry I am not good company right now. I love you and miss you all. I will try to be here more.

DAWN--Cornbread from scratch can be really easy. Not much more work than the Jiffy box. You could make your own little Jiffy boxes and just keep them in ziploc bags so you could make it quickly whenever you wanted to. Cornbread and pinto beans made in the crock pot was one of my favorite meals growing up. :)

For all watching Dexter, I am halfway through episode 3 of Season 4. Being sick has its perks, like headphones and online tv. :)

Watched Wanda Syke's "I'ma Be ME" standup special on HBO last weekend. Almost died laughing. SOOOOO funny. Watched it once with my lesbian roommate, and once with my black boyfriend. Wanda was equally appreciated by all three of us!!! LOL!!! OMG - HILARIOUS!!!!! If you watch it - get ready for her SPA treatment, and for Esther!!

I also watched Marley and Me this weekend. I'd already read the book. I knew everything that would happen in the story. Still bawled like a baby. Cute movie. (Better book.) Wonderful sentiment. *sigh*

ALSO watched 7 Pounds again (with Will Smith and Rosario Dawson). ALSO bawled like a baby. AGAIN. Jada is one lucky woman.

Had some good snuggles with the kitties in between all of the movie watching...had a pretty nice snuggle with the BF too, AFTER the movie watching...and then it was time to come to work on Monday. Another weekend in the life of DRD.

TERI- I missed the first season of Damages so you'll be better off than me that started it in the middle. I think I finished Season 2 and it's not on right now on the channel I watch it on. I'll be anxious to see how you like it. Are you watching it on the same thing on your computer?

DR DONNA: Here goes. For breakfast, you can brown some ground sausage in the skillet, and then stir it into the muffin mix along with some shredded cheddar cheese and bake as directed, in muffins or a square. OR, for a sweeter breakfast, you can pour half the muffin mix into the cups, then put in a spoonful of your favorite jelly and then top with more mix and bake.
For lunch, it's Reuben muffins!
You will take some canned corned beef and chop it up. Drain sauerkraut and rinse very, very well. Add both to the mix. Bake. When almost done, lay a square of Swiss cheese on top of each muffin and return to oven until just melted. When done, break apart on plate and top with just a bit of Thousand Island dressing. Oh, yeah!
For dinner, it's Italian night! Get a bag of those pre-sliced pepperoni's and dice them up. Stir them into the mix with shredded mozzerralla (sp?) cheese and bake. (If you want, you could also add finely diced green pepper and onion that you have sauteed.) When done, top these with some of your favorite spaghetti sauce heated up or dip them in. Yumm!

I will tell you one thing about the cornbread muffins with cool stuff in them. When your kids take them for lunch and all the other kids get fascinated by them because no one else has anything like it, your kids can trade them for just about ANYTHING in the lunch room. Pretty awesome.
Unfortunately, mine just made me send dozens so they could share after the muffins got real popular. They ARE better warm out of the oven, but they aren't bad cold. You can do a diced lunchmeat variety that's pretty cool, too. Tuck the whole little sandwich of ingredients right into the muffin, as it were.

And on a more serious note, since you said we could ask questions, I have one (but I suppose you can't answer it.) WHO provided you with crystal meth and heroine? I mean, is this something that was offered to you and you succumbed or something you went looking for? Are the people who have this at the ready the people who are normally in your life? And I guess the logical question to follow that would be, are they still ... in your life? Because that would worry me. I would want to know that you are moving in different circles, even is it meant, God forbid, that you weren't in entertainment. I have to suppose being in that field makes it easier to get, or harder to avoid, but I may be assuming too much there. I'm not trying to be nosy, I'm just trying to ensure that you're going to be okay.
And I guess the motherly side of me is hedging to see that if somebody was responsible for your "fall," that they can't do it again and that they get what's coming to them. Sorry if that's a bad way to feel.

My son is dealing with meth addiction and alcohol, but its more a matter of what is close to use for coping. All lead to the same path. Drug addiction does alot more than just hurt the addict. It crushes the souls of the people who love them. Making them have to shut down a piece of their heart for the sake of sanity. (or they just natter about cows)

Funny how science puts time and money into developing viagra while still not able to help anxiety which would alleviate most needs for extreme coping mechanisms.

BEDBUG..Those recipes all sound so good. Thank you for sharing!! I guess once made even with all those various ingredients...they do NOT have to be refrigerated? Would think with the meats etc...they should though? My son always looking for different things to take for lunch... but he can take an ice pack if needed. He loves corn muffins..but all I ever made were just plain old corn muffins!! Who knew......no imagination here I guess! LOL I saw RR I think where she took biscuit dough and added scrambled eggs..cooked bacon and cheese etc..and then baked and you could just take breakfast to go. thought that sounded like a good idea too!

Has anyone been watching the balloon saga on the news? I remember that family from Wife Swap and I know there is editing and all of that, but it so does not surprise me that this would happen to them. I am freaking out about them not being able to find the boy and I am trying to not let my mind go to darker things. Just hoping and praying they find him alive and well.

If you haven't heard yet, a 6 year old boy is missing in Fort Collins (north of Denver), Colorado.

An older brother saw him climb into the family's experimental aircraft (similar to a weather baloon) this morning.
.
Around 11am this morning, the balloon became untethered and traveled 50 miles (2 hours) at 6,000 feet in the air.
.
When the balloon landed, the boy was not in the balloon. Someone reported seeing something fall from the balloon. Everyone is praying that the little boy has simply run away from home - fearing his parents would be mad at him for making the balloon become untethered. I pray that is the answer and they find him soon - and safe.

Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

I'm not sure if the family interviews are making it to national news yet, but they do look like 3 boys that could get in a lot of trouble. I didn't see Wife Swap, but now that I've seen the interview here this afternoon, I see what you mean, about not being surprised it happened to their family.

The local news is very skeptical and even asked them outright if this was a publicity stunt. To me they look like they have their hands more than full, and probably don't have their priorities straight. I don't think this is a publicity stunt.

They asked him if the authorities were going to send him a bill for the cost of this search today. He said he hoped not. I think that child services should definitely be called in to check on them. The father kept saying he was worried about the boy getting electrocuted inside the low flying aparatus. That enough to me warrants someone checking on his common sense...not keeping a closer eye on the kids. Even during the interview, Falcon (the 6 year old) ran off!

I'm just so happy he's alive and we're talking about their parenting skills and not about the horrific death of an innocent child. Hug and kiss yours extra tight tonight!

AMI-- I heard that he was playing with toys and such in the attic. Hmm...as a parent when I first saw the breaking news story about the balloon, I was horrified. I can't imagine being the parents. It is not possible to always prevent things from happening. When I saw it was this family....sad to say I thought it was just a matter of time. They put their kids in situations that could end in tragedy and frankly the dad is someone that is just a bully. I still thought that it was sad and tragic and felt for the parents. The media did seem to want some kind of sensational ending to this story (like a child falling to his death) so they could have days worth of footage to discuss. I could be totally wrong, but I don't think my 6 year old would be so afraid of me that they would hide for 5 hours from me. That is the saddest part to me.And then I saw this video the family made about not being pussified:

Just not sure what to think, but I think it should be standard when something happens like this that CPS checks you out to make sure that there isn't more to the story. I hope they find nothing and the family has just had a really bad day that had a good ending.

The local news, explained last night that they debated for over an hour before even coming on the air with the story yesterday because of the background of this family. (Anyone else remember 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf')

I believe national news can be out of balance - focus and sensationalize where they can on the wrong topics. I have to give kudos to our local stations. As soon as the boy was found, they moved onto other things.
.
I cringed when I heard last night that the national shows were talking to them. That is exactly what they wanted and I wish they wouldn't have satisfied this father's obsessive need for publicity.
.
I hope they are held responsible for all costs involved in the search. It's not uncommon here. If people take unnecessary risks and / or ignore 'do not climb / ski here' signs and have to be rescued, they have to pay back the costs of the search and rescue efforts expended to help them when they get themselve into trouble.
.
I also hope there is a way that CPS can do something about this family. I know taking the children away from the parents may not be best for them - our foster systems are already overloaded. I do hope they are required to go to group therapy and parenting classes until the last child is 18!

DEE...thanks for the deer video. They're so beautiful! I saw one a couple of weeks ago walking down the street near my home. I called the Wildlife to see if they'd come and move it to a safer place but they said no. (They said there are at least 800 wild animals within city limits) It was headed in the direction of the Seine River so hopefully it got there ok. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it. I walk Coco down that street all the time and that's the first time I've ever seen a deer! I just stood there and watched it saunter away! LOL

I am trying to get the motivation and energy for some cleaning... while I watch infomercials of OTHERS doing it and wondering....do you think that shark pocket steamer get around everywhere clean everything no chemicals sanitizes cleaning contraption REALLY works like they say? Or is it going to be something I order (in the next few minutes ..as THAT is what I HAVE to do or something terrible is going to happen....) and then have it just sit around in a closet somewhere falling on me every time I open the door....

Ali - Step away from the infomercials. I am still obsessed with the wrap around HD glasses. even after i researched and comments were "cant believe they are convincing old people these things work". Doh. and if i catch you ordering a Snuggee im gonna smack you. :D

I can't believe I'm asking something so stupid here, but I guess you just never know where you will find an answer. I can't believe I am the only person in the world this happens to, so I hold out hope someone has heard of it. I do suffer from dry eyes and it might relate to that, otherwise I'm clueless. When I awake, sometimes one of my eyelids is inverted, flipped up totally, and it's a hideous feeling and there's nothing to "grab" onto to turn it, so you just start grabbing at it in the dark and you are half asleep and usually scratch up your eyeball, which is already so dry that there's practically no prying the eyelid lose. I hate it!
When I get it turned down again, I'm in such a panicked state and tears are running down my face and I have blurry vision then, sometimes all day. It's just an awful way to start the day, or to have the night interrupted.
Anyone have this happen ever, or often? I'm thinking of putting surgical tape on my eyelids to keep it down, but I'm afraid I'll tear my eyelashes out if I do that all the time. So I have to wonder... is it flipping itself, or am I doing it to myself? Side effect of a medication? WTF? I know in the grand scheme of things, this sounds stupid and petty, but it's really bothering me. Help!

ALI--I don't know if you NEED a steamer, but I do know that I NEEDED a vidalia chop wizard, LoL! I also really NEED the Instyler for my hair, but have so far resisted the need and just lived with my bad hair days. ;o) Dang late night hucksters!

BEDBUG--That sounds terrible!!!! I'm so sorry you are going through that. When my dad had bells palsy he had to tape his one eye shut at night because it would not close. He put a cotton ball over it and then taped further down so his lashes were not harmed. Also, a friend of mine that had sleep apnea also had something called floppy eyelid syndrome and her doctor gave her some kind of eyeglass thing to wear at night so her eye rubbing against her pillow would not invert it. I think there were some kind of eye drops to use to keep the eyes moisturized. I don't know if any of that makes sense with what you are experiencing, but I hope it stops for you. ♥

I am trying to get over flu and get my youngest over it too. Any suggestions for dry sinuses would be immensely appreciated. My youngest is having severe bloody noses because his sinuses are so dry and nothing I am doing is working to stop them. Needless to say I'm thinking of taking a page from Dexter and covering my house in plastic so it does not look like a freakin' crime scene. :)

NANCY--if you have netflix you can watch the first two seasons of Dexter online for free. The first couple of episodes were just okay to me, but after that I started to get hooked.

DAWN--You should get some kind of an award from Dexter for bringing them new viewers! :) Hope you have enjoyed your week with the hubby!

DEE--My 6 year old wants a zebra print Snuggie. He thinks he will be a zebra if he has it. I am mulling it over ;o)

Erin - Dont be afraid of the netty. remember to put salt in it. and watch a vid of someone on youtube to get the idea how. It is not irritating at all when you learn to do it right. The first time i tried i didnt use salt and did it wrong. ouch. but after I learned it was easy.

Steam helps. I put a pot of water on to boil and put my head over it covered in a towel. sometimes i add eucalyptus or vicks. A steamy shower is another idea.

Bedbug - Are you getting your eyes checked soon? hmm?

For your son..I think he is too young to want to ( or agree to!! ) use the neti pot..though you never know! But you can get saline moisturizing nasal spray and use that to keep his nose moist and also you can put some Vaseline or Neosporin on a q-tip and apply inside nasal passages to keep them from bleeding and to feel better.

here is an update on my cousin

I think we got some good news today. His x-ray showed some improvement and if he improves more tomorrow, they will try weaning him from the ventilator.

Today he was more awake than he had been. Was able to shake his head yes and no and opened his eyes on command. Less changes with his medicine and his left arm is less swollen. Did an ultra sound on the right arm to rule out a blood clot as the swelling is still there. I find it hard to believe that with the hemophilia he would have a blood clot, but it has to be checked out. He is still in liver failure and jaundiced, but even that is improving. Actually, I think he needs some more blood. He has only had 6 units since admission. Just call me "Doctor Mom". I think I should get my degree after this admission with him.

Hi Everyone. I'm home and the surgery went well. He'll be in ICU for at least 24 hours. Thanks for all the well wishes.

It's been a long stressful day. I'm looking forward to relaxing and watching SYTYCD Canada.

I left work early today with a stomach virus but I'm feeling better now. For all those who have worried and suggested I go to the doc about my eyes, I want to reassure you that I have a doc appoint. next week for the diabetes (to get a glucometer) and I will share all the info with him. Thank you. In the meantime I am following the advice I read online and putting eyedrops in four times a day and right before bed, taping my eyelids shut with surgical tape (and I put my daughter's sleep mask on over that so the taped eyes don't feel so weird.)

Dawn, Dwts was good tonight. You probably didnt miss much as so much recap. They did a group dance to a medley of his songs including thriller. did you see Norah Jones. When she sang Come away with me and with Jonathon and Anna dancing i was teary eyed. then the MJ tribute and i was sniffling pretty good.

Now i just watched Chris' video and full on waterworks. darn it. im not a mushy girl. what is up with that? Chris you are amazing. Beautiful Job.

Well Dawn about being creative. Hmm. i have many ideas always. follow thru not so much. but latest plan is to go stalking coyotes and trying to scare them and film it. They are getting so cocky, I just want to mess with them a little.

Oh i also have all these candle jars so i want to fill them with Salt rocks and scent them with essential oils. i just like idea of all the negative ions from them. oh and i want to paint. have to get on that. Im in go mode. my back is feeling better. i planted some tulips.

Im working on cracking the whip getting myself going, taking better care so i feel better. so i can do these projects, but i dont listen worth a damn. I even procrastinate on things i love to do. like i want to savor them. or maybe just thats my excuse. aghh.

DEE- Yes, I got to see Norah Jones sing and the dancing. I haven't watched my tape yet, but it was at a commercial for SYTYCD. I also saw Thriller with all of them dancing and Derek leading with the red jacket which was great. I have tickets to THIS IS IT for Nov 1st and I'm afraid I'll get chocked up in the show too. I don't cry ever and I'm not mushy either, but give me stuff like that and I get chocked up for sure. Sometime I wish I could just let myself cry, but I don't!! No wonder I get headaches!! Your creativeness sounds good except the coyates!! Stay away from them!!

DEE- I forgot that I planted tulips, daffodils a couple of weeks ago and put down chicken wire on the ground so that those darn rabbits don't dig them up and also have a little fence around that you can't see. Shaf went out to work today and the darn black rabbit was on our patio. Another man caught it today and took it away in the fields. Leave my flowers alone!! LOL!

DEE- If THIS IS IT is any good I will buy it. I just love dancing and it lifts my spirits. I've been to 2 different Cirque du Soleil's and watch about 4 on TV. I really would like to put on my BUCKET LIST to see "O" in Vegas as it's in the water and my girlfriend saw it and says it's worth every penny. If only I could feel better some day to go.

DEE- It's not that I'm just talking to you,but the other day a guy 24 yr old in Montreal died after he fell on his head practicing for Cirque. He was from the Ukraine. I have a girlfriend who lives in Italy,, but is from Barbados married to an Italian. She sang in Cirque for about 4 yrs and she got us free tickets to Saltimbanco in Everett Washington and we were about 4th row centre stage and got to eat with the performers etc. It was just great.

OPRAH - from Wed. Did anyone see this show about how other people live? In Denmark I was so impressed. Small spaces, less stuff, more life! I thought that was great. They shop everyday on their way home to make dinner and most people are out of work by 4pm. Civilized don't you think? They have their babies in the carriage outside in the yard sleeping without the thought of anyone taking their baby!!! Free health care for everyone. Very interesting show.

Oh forgot to mention on that Oprah show....Well...the one drawback to Denmark.. is they pay 50% in taxes...but to me..who cares!!! You GET at least what you pay for there!!!!!! Here we pay ridiculous income tax..ridiculous property taxes.. sales taxes..inheritance taxes which taxes money that has already BEEN taxed many times......taxes over and over on your savings..special taxes on services... etc..and what do we REALLY have to show for it? I just wish our country and our people could get it right!! The emphasis there is not on working your life away either..it is on being happy and content and being with the people you love.

...if you add up what we pay in all of those taxes you mentioned, Ali, then ADD the costs of daycare, school loans, health care...all of the things we insist that we want responsibility for - - then we pay MORE than any of those countries do. Crazy!!

I would have liked to have seen the Oprah piece on Denmark. Did they mention that 90.3% of the population is the same ethnicity and faith? That would make for everyone being so agreeable a little easier. They all share a similar belief system that is cultural. We as a country, are removing all ethnicity and faiths to keep politically correct. I wonder if you are happier if you are allowed to say out loud, who you are and what you believe? Is it that you are provided a similar income level that makes everyone happier? I really wish I had seen it.

Kandyed - I remember it was also a piece on Dateline or 20/20 - one of those shows, in the past year. I'll bet we could find it online. It's true, they are pretty "homogenous" there - and we may not quite have that exact end goal in mind here in this great melting pot. It would be nice, though, if there was some kind of middle ground we could strive towards.

Dee, this link is for you. Mostly the part about the criticisms. It is a great break down of people's concerns and it is very unbiased. It is wikipedia so you always have to "consider the source" but I was inspired to read it since the Denmark stuff posted. I thought it was nice.

I included it because Denmark is described primarily as a "welfare state" and this seems to appeal to the comments. It is Wikipedia's definitions. You can basically see where the despute lies and it is well written. Good stuff for you and me Dee......

DR DONNA & KANDYED- The Oprah show was not political at all. It was just about how different people live all over the world. I wasn't making any statement it was just INTERESTING to me. Yes, the people in Denmark said they do not believe in God and it's culteral. They are very happy and put family first and do jobs they love doing rather than jobs for the most money. I would suggest trying to see Oprah show on the internet as it's not slanted anyway just INTERESTING about all cultures all over the world. How different women live and men of course, but she slants it to woman mostly.

Okay lets talk about Denmark. They have the most balance incomes. There isnt the super rich and super poor. The more you make the more you pay as it should be. In our countries the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. They pay the highest taxes around but they get so much for it. They pay into unemployment and if unemployed they receive 40% of their income. The unemployment rate there is the lowest. with 50,000 people only unemployed. If one doesnt take unemployment, it goes to their retirement.

Now if you tried that in the US you would called a Socialist or Communist. Socialism is not a bad thing. it is all of us contributing together for a service we can get for less if we do it together. its so simple. yet resisted by ones with money who say "why should i share".

Denmark ranked as "the happiest place in the world," based on standards of health, welfare, and education.

Why is welfare a bad word. This is the description of a welfare state. A model in which the state assumes primary responsibility for the welfare of its citizens.

WE are the govt. We vote. We live in a world where the white male has dominated for years. telling females they couldnt vote and what to do with their bodies, and paying them less for the same work. suppressing other races. Now we are starting to get some representation with women and other nationalies speaking up for our rights too.

I dream of a world where the rich give a crap about the homeless. and not just see them as sub-human who put themselves in that position. Many with silver spoon do not get the struggles of the less fortunate. and just say why should i pay for that bum. That is the attitude that is bringing our countries down. not that we have different religions. All religions teach helping the most unfortunate.

Dawn-im not sure about Denmark being non believers in god. i read 82% belong to lutheran church.

Hope EVERYONE is having a great weekend! My eyes are dilated right now from the eye dr. We all had our eyes dilated today and my oldest said that I looked like one of the demons on Supernatural and so I showed him a mirror, lol! My youngest had one eye huge and the other a lot smaller dilated and needless to say we were cracking each other up on the drive home. Especially since I could hardly see ( dawned on my half way home that I probably should not be driving!) It was major traffic jam because it is homecoming at the University here and so it seems the entire universe has decided to park in front of my house and on my street. At least that is how I was seeing it. Who really knows?

Darn, I missed the Denmark discussion! I was going to make some lame joke about being Switzerland on the subject, but the Irish in me knew that was a lie. I was just sad I missed the discussion because I really love a good discussion. It's how I learn. I love to hear people's opinions and why they feel that way.

Wow! i just watched a fantastic show that made my day. Its called Rob Dyrdek Fantasy Factory. He is a famous skateboarder who does so much for charity. He has the best spirit, it just makes you smile. He is trying to teach another guy to be giving. Anyone want a smile today, watch this guy. awesome.

Okay truth time....who else has been saying, "do you see a diet coke in my hand?" ever since watching the ANT clip NEBLINA posted? Please not just me! I keep saying it to my sons and they have no idea what I am talking about. :) For some reason it just really cracked me up!

DEE I love Rob! I watch his show every week and have for a few years. He is amazing. I want to hang out in his factory for a week. So loving, caring and so much fun!!!

I loved that episode of Oprah, too. I wish she'd do one a week showing a few different countries. I love seeing how we are alike and how we are different. I was "all about" Denmark until they showed Dubai and the spacious houses,and now I think I'd rather live in the fantasy of my mother-in-law having a giant commercial kitchen right across the street from me and delivering three meals a day to my house for my family. Just think how much time would be added into our week if we never again had to think of what to grocery shop for, or spend time to cook it, and spend time to clean up the kitchen mess! Incredible!

I'm at least 9 minutes "late" on my sleep hygiene commitment to myself. I've been trying to get to bed before it turns into the next day. Shortly after midnight here. I'm cutting myself some slack since it's the weekend but not much since staying on sleep-wake schedule is the best way to keep the meals and pills evenly spaced and keep the blood sugar steady. So, I'm off. Nighty nite, all!

I'm up to with not much sleep. I'm having some grapes and then back to sleep if EB doesn't get up again. He's been up twice as it's 8am here. I keep my ear plugs and mask on and just keep resting!

BEDBUG- Yes, I found that interesting with the MIL's cook sending 3 meals a day over to their house. LOL! The lady was a Dr. so I guess she's working and so is the husband. Four kids though too! I found the lady in Rio interesting too as her housekeeper lived in the slums and she had never seen where she lived. I wonder if she got a raise when she saw how she lives??? I love Oprah's shows when she Skype's everyone. I too hope your mask and taping your eyes is helping you. Wow, you sure are getting your routine down pat with going to bed on time. I know it's best. I try to take my meds at the same time too every day.

I came here to let ANT and everyone else know the story of a fellow tongue cancer patient who was recently sent home to die after all treatments have failed, but I see you beat me to that! :) THANK YOU!

I thought it is something ANT should read especially when he feels depressed or any of you for that matter. After reading Part 2 which is not posted yet, you will have a greater understanding of how good life is for most of you and the things you Bi*ch about are minor in comparison. I think the message is important for everyone to hear!Perhaps life changing.

A book has been in the works for a few years and if Sh*t will stop happening I'll have an ending, but I just keep finding more crap to write about...LOL Maybe I should put it out as a Series of books, like Harry Potter!!! Dewey was able to get off the vent about 11 am today. So far all is working well in the respiratory dept. His lungs are working and he is able to cough some of the junk up and get it suctioned out. Hopefully he doesn't get to tired coughing and get a mucus plug stuck. He still has the feeding tube from his nose to his stomach. They won't get rid of that until he can pass the swallowing test. And yes, when he got the breathing tube out all he wanted was" water". He is slowing getting some strength back-there is more resistance when I take his hands away from his face and the tubes. Both his daughters were down to see him today and his son is planning to come down on Monday. Marty has been in to see him everyday and has been wonderful to us all. Ben and Doug have visited too. And thanks to so many cousins for your cards. He actually looked at them today and smiled when I read them to him. Still has a long way to go, but we are taking one day at a time.
