EMJAY and NANCY--I think that Seniors are also sometimes unwilling to embrace the younger generations way of dealing with people on the phone or dealing with junk mail. Scammers try to be as intimidating as possible or as hard sell as possible and should just not be given the opportunity to "sell" themselves to you in the first place. I never answer my phone if I don't recognize the number and if you don't leave a message, then it must not have been important. I don't let my kids answer the phone unless they know the person calling. My grandma thought that caller ID and answering machines were rude. We just had a 90+ year old man fall for a driveway repaving scam from a door to door salesman. I think he will be okay because the media stepped in, but it just makes me so upset to think of all the others they scammed who probably didn't say anything because they were too embarrassed.

OK...I leave for a while and come back and now there is a new video. ANT I love the new effects. I am sorryou are are a bit bummed out. I love you and am sending you many hugs!!

Mmmm CGH's chewy Kosher Cookies

It would be very bad taste to mention anyone's taco recipe, so I won't.

Oh why do I post thee... ?

I once saw Patti Labelle's macaroni & cheese recipe on Oprah. I was so inspired I ran to the store immediately.

Well, about two plates later I was stuffed.

Two weeks had passed and those two plates still hadn't if you know what I mean.

Rule of thumb: go easy on the cheese

Also lima beans will gas you up faster than anything. Kidney beans too.

Pull a finger ~ don't let the beans linger.

I think it would be fun to accumulate recipes with epicurious and compile a master list of our goodies.

Then arrange our 2010 gathering as a pot-luck style mission.

But we arrange it somewhere important... like an elderly facility where folks would appreciate baked goodies and wacky humor with some tender lovin' and all that good stuff.

I don't want to just make cookies necessarily.

Bite-for-bite I feel it's worth mixing... just to see what happens.

hey i made mac and cheese last night. well mac. no cheese. forgot and boiled mac into soggy stuff. ugh. dont know how to do cheese sauce. so butter and salt and pepper. guess i wont be sharing that recipe.

Jack made this good meal tonight. Had beets and beet tops and bacon and onions and stuff. it was good.

okay that was my lame attempt to talk recipes.

Grr to people scamming seniors. In their day they could actually trust people. and these guys are good. They dont just get seniors. Small town people tend to trust more too. Guess we just have to remember if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Its been a LONG TIME since I posted, but I have been so BUSY with my mother she had back surgery May 4th and was in 3 different Hospitals and was released June 1. Everything is on me once again as usual. My sister, is so selfish and she don't give a rats behind about my mother. Shes been here 2 times yes 2 times. She should be ashame of herself. My kids are GEMS and also my husband. It takes a LONG TIME to recover from back surgery I had no idea.

I don't answer the phone either if I don't recognize the number and I also don't go to the door unless I know who it is. I hear too many stories about home invasion to be comfortable about opening the door for strangers.

NANCY...it sickens me how seniors can be taken advantage of. I saw it happen when my Mom was living in her house alone. My sister and I kept a close watch but still the vultures circled when she was selling her house. She ended up giving away her cd player and most of her cd's, furniture, bags full of clothes, etc just because people would call or come over and ask her for things. We did manage to get a couple of things back for her but not everything. Even now in the Nursing Home she'd still hand over anything anyone asked for :)

And the same crazy weather thing happened to me too on Friday. I'm at the park, sitting in the grass, enjoying the breeze, and then I look up and the sky is all black. I loved it though. It made the walk back home very fun...and wet. That's twice in one week that I've been caught in heavy rain, but I'm not complaining. I was with my best friend, so we played in the rain for a bit. It was fun. :)


I went back to the park tonight, like I do, and an owl flew over my head. I wonder if it means something. Cause I'm always asking for signs, and they've been coming in by the droves lately. But it got my heart rate up, I'll tell ya that much. That thing scared the @!#$ out of me lol.

It's almost 4:00am in Texas, so I guess I'll go to bed. My body is going to go into shock when I go back to work in a few weeks and I have to get up 6 hours earlier than I have since the end of May. I am such a night owl and my schedule gets ALL messed up in the summer. I fall asleep between 3 and 4 and get up between 11 and 12, just in time for lunch!

Oh, one more thing....Most of you guys know the struggles I have had with finding a church that I'm comfortable in...one that doesn't preach that I'm going to hell (Baptist), or try to heal me from my affliction of being gay (Assembly of God). I started going to a church that a friend of mine started, Actually, they started a softball team, he and his wife asked me to play, then I figured I should go to church since I was playing ball for them (come to think of it, they know me too well...I think they planned that! LOL). Anyway, I've gone off and on the past few months. But, again, the same old struggle...I'm gay, I'm a Christian...how are they going to feel when they know that? Should I tell them? It's just weird being in church where you are dealing with the spiritual part of your life, which sometimes can be tough, and you feel like you are hiding part of your life from the people that are trying to teach you and help you. Anyway, they are friends and I have been debating about whether I should talk to them or not, at the same time, afraid that if I told them, they would not feel comfortable around me anymore. Today at the end of service, the pastor came up and hugged me and whispered in my ear, "I know, and I don't care, we love you and God loves you and we're not here to judge." I kind of looked at him (wondering if he meant what I thought he meant), then he said, "I know you're gay, that doesn't change anything. Relax and let God work in your life and put the walls down." I cannot tell you how that made me feel. I just broke down and lost it. This is the first time in my life as a Christian that I have felt like I may have found a church that I can be a part of and not have to feel condemned. It was awesome!

Beck! That is awesome. Sounds like you went to the right place. and to someone who may be able to answer some questions for you. Im sure there are exclusive churches (you dont want that anyway) and inclusive churches, where all are accepted equally.

Ive always challenged christian beliefs. and i have found the answers i was looking for. i didnt mince words either.

I would say. "what about gay people. Are you going to tell me they are less? wont go to heaven?" Not one ever said that. They say the bible guides us, we do our best but no one judges but god.

im hoping that is how majority feel. at least around here i find that and this is the most redneck province of all. I hope you find a place where you are loved and accepted just as you are. You are awesome.

BECK: I am so happy for your experience at church. You deserve nothing less than to feel welcomed and loved.
KRISTEN: I hope you can find a similar place for yourself.
STEPH: Well, the first night of Shark Week, my only homage was to put gummie sharks on top of the zucchini-pecan brownies I made. Our other dish was a zucchini pasta bake, and I surely could have called it Shark Attack Casserole, but CaityBug and BigLove were coming for dinner (and she can be a bit squeamish, so I refrained from naming it.)
I DID ask for shark steaks when I went to the grocery, but they were out. Hopefully one day this week they will have some. On that night I plan to have shark steaks, Great White Mashed Potatoes, and I'm not sure what else. I've been playing with the name Hammerhead attached to some dish, and I've also been fiddling with the idea of of doing something in a shark tooth shape. I'd welcome some ideas!

Last night on the "local" (local meaning 4 hours away from me) they did a story about a church in Sioux Falls that welcomes gays, lesbians, trans, etc etc. St. Matthew the Martyr or something like that. I am so very happy that you feel you may have found a good church for you!!!

I personally struggle with "church". I am a Christian but struggle with the "religion" of it all. In small towns especially, churches can end up being more about politics and which families go there etc and I can't deal with it. I live in a town of 2,500 people and we have I believe 13 churches here!

So it's Sunday morning in Las Vegas, 8:30am to be exact! Nancy has called and is on her way up...

Knock, knock, knock...
I open the door, OMG, 9:30am! Nancy is like the SUN rising right in the hallway! She and John are wearing ANT orange, Nancy looks like she is going to a Hawaiian Luau! She is quite stunningly happy in person. :D
.
I of course was dragging my butt around trying to clear the fog of my sleepiness long enough to get myself ready! I wasn't dressed yet and still needed to blow dry my hair! I said upon opening the door "You guys are crazy! What made you think I would even be awake?" They said they left home at 4:30am! Geez!
.
John presented me with a big manila envelope with all the pictures from the 1st. Annual ANT Colony BBQ! I wish I could have been there! Nancy gave me two hand crocheted hats for my grand girls. They were beautiful!
(I forgot about gifts this time) But I did bring ANT and Jason T shirts from Oklahoma that say
"Nothing tips better than a cow"! LOL It had upside down cows on the front!

Ray and I had decided to go to this HUGE Brunch Buffet at The Planet Hollywood. It opened at 11am. Looks like we had some time to kill.
.
We walked the gauntlet back to Planet Hollywood, past the card snappers. It was already ~HOT~
Hot like opening the oven HOT.
.
We walked around The Miracle Mall looking at all the beautiful glass displays. Nancy and I found out we both are drawn to crystals! There was many chandeliers to admire there too!
.
Finally it was time for Brunch! We all were hungry! And what a feast it was! There was everything you could possible want to eat! I went straight for the prime rib! They had food from all countries and Ray and Nancy hit the Middle Eastern section first. John went Italian. I couldn't even begin to tell you all the great food they had! I tried to take small amounts of everything but, even if I took only one bite I would not have been able to sample it all!

Nancy had given me this beautiful silk hand fan.
(I'm peri-menopausal) We took to the ladies room after we ate and in my absent minded state and Nancy and I having a good laugh at my restroom humor...I sadly left it behind! I also took pictures of the restrooms because as I stated, everywhere there was beauty!
.
We decided to walk to Caesars Palace Hotel. OMG! I now know why they call Las Vegas "Sin City"! It feels like Hell has cracked opened there!
.
I was doing the best I could but, damn I'm not even used to sunlight much less sunlight and 110 degrees temperatures! I was huffy and puffing and my face was flushed like a ripe tomato!
.
Everyone was understanding that at times I had to stop and let my muscles cool. When you have fibromyalgia it is like...
When you are exercising and you start to feel the burn??? Well, imagine feeling that burn just standing up. After you stop to rest it doesn't stop like it would if say you were on a treadmill and you just get off when you've had enough...with fibro, you can stop, sit down, but that burn takes minutes or even hours to stop.
.
We walked through the Caesars and it was exquisitely elegant! OMG! You can't even photograph the luxury! You just had to be there! Beautiful place!
.
We walked and talked and photographed and laughed and poked fun at our guys and laughed and laughed! Did I mention we laughed???
.
We were trying to decide what else we should do before we were to met ANT, when I had to confess I REALLY, REALLY needed a NAP! Ya know they did too!
.
So we trudged back to THE Bally's through the HEAT and all went to sleep like old people! Nancy took up the little loveseat and John took up the floor behind the chairs and Ray and I lounged on king size bed!
.
I woke up several times...John and Ray snoring in stereo...we forgot to close the curtains and the sun was shining on my face, I was too tired to get up and close them...
once I woke up and looked around and Nancy had her bare legs up on the other side of the couch arm and I remember thinking...WOW! That Nancy has pretty legs!

OMG! It was nice to be just resting...

Thank you so much Nancy So/Cal, for letting us know about TLJ, if you talk to her please give her my love and prayers for her recovery. My cousin has Hepatits C and hes on a treatment for it now for 3 months 1 shot a week and 4 pills a day 2 in am/2 in pm. he had his first set of blood work done about 2 weeks ago there is no sign of the Hepatitis C we are so Happy for him. I pray that Jean gets a new liver, I'm so happy that she lost 100 pounds.

John is on 40 hours for the past 2 months its really nice he gets home at 3:00 pm spends time with the boys and they just LOVE IT having their Dad home and on the Weekends too. Money is tight but were ok. All the money in the world is not worth what we as a family have had in the past 2 months.

I'm a little worried about my mother shes not been herself for the past 3 or 4 days. Shes been sick to her stomach, freezing with chills, and she don't seem like herself lately, I'm a bit worried about her. She thinks shes a burden to us, shes told me that plenty of times. John and I tell her YOU ARE NOT A BURDEN, we love you. Shes still in pain, I called the doctor and he said she will never bee 100% pain free only about 75%.

2. There are clinics in the US that do stem cell and some other leading edge treatments. They say some medical insurance in US covers it. Is this something most insurance would cover or just very select ones? it costs 35k without insurance.

3. one place is called New Hope in Arizona and another is Valley Cancer Clinic in LA. Is anyone familiar with these places?

About 3 hours ago I heard the most ugliest yes ugliest word I could ever hear CANCER, my cousin who is 46 who has Hepatitis C and is on treatment for that and its clearing up. Fell off of a porch today and down the steps, went to the ER and found out he has Cancer of the Left Kidney. Now mind you last December before they would start any Hep C treatment he had to have a clean bill of health/clearance in order to start this. So they did find a spot the size of a dime on his left kidney, after an X-Ray, MRI, CAT-SCAN, and then an Ultrasound, they send him to a Urologist, the Urologist read the all the tests and said oh its nothing but a little blood filled cyst nothing to worry about, just come back in 6 months for a check up. We thought GREAT thats good News. Well I think that Doctor read them tests wrong because now its the size of a 1/2 dollar. Hes scared, I'm scared. We are more like brother and sister, we lived together as kids because our mothers were divorced from our fathers. I just hung up with him on the phone its 2:28 here. They gave him something to sleep. Hes going to be in the Hospital for a few days they said to run some tests. My mom is VERY upset. He was there for her during her whole surgery ordeal. Plus hes like a son to her. She lost her sister in 2001. I'm praying its just in the one kidney.

reminds me of when we picked one up in our motorhome on a trip to Yellowstone and the sound at night drove me crazy...I had to catch the critter or die trying
I was up reading while John had already gone to bed and there is scittered across the floor I was fast and got a bowl over it then I got John involved slid a magazine under the bowl and kept it trapped then John took it out in the snow and put it in a trash can where I hope it froze to death...serve it right for messing with us humph!

BRIAN- You know I live in Canada, but I don't get snow here. It's green grass all year except in the mountains. Right now the grass is brown though from the heat we have had. I've never been so hot in my life! When you watch the 2010 Olympics I'm near the skating Oval for speed skating. You'll see outside no snow! In Feb we will have snow drops and crocus blooming!

DEE- I'm glad you are a good cop. I don't know what that kinda gun looks like, but I'm sure you are fun to play with. I'd be tired out soon too. I had our spaghetti dinner that I made last night and make the noodles at dinner. It was actually quite good. I must get making ALI-KAT'S dump cake! I have all the ingredients. LOL!

I once read about someone putting a chair at the end of their driveway and piling zucchini in it. There was a sign that said FREE in front of the zucchini. Hope everyone's enjoying this scorcher of a day. It's 90 or 92 here. Our hottest day of the summer so far. So, of course I'm going to bake like an idiot.Oh, well, when the zucchini are ready, what can you do?

I decided to go glam! I wore a long black shell and jacket with full sequined collar. Black slacks and black heels. I came out of the bathroom to a room awash in

We had plenty of time but, didn't want to take any chances! So off we went to the 'Tickled Pink'. Walking the gauntlet once again!

It was quite a bit cooler than it had been when we were out earlier, but it still was hot! Man I should not have worn heels! WHAT was I thinking?

Earlier in the day on the way back from Planet Hollywood we found an alternative route through another hotel that would keep us for the most part, out of the heat. Did I mention it is HOT in Las Vegas?

Nancy's husband John is the ANT Colony's official photographer and has a beautiful camera. I took photos along the way but, left most of the evenings photography duties to the professional. ;)

The Paris Hotel is GORGEOUS! The shops are elegant and expensive! We took many pictures on our way. I posted mine at Myspace.

He was very handsome as usual! There was something different though about him but I couldn't think what?
He was wearing Nancy's favorite pair of jeans and look and sounded very excited and happy to be in Vegas, Baby!

Did I mention his hair looked great? He kept using his index finger horizontally to scratch his upper lip...Hey...where's that cute and sexy goatee??? He was clean shaven and had just gotten a new haircut and I thought he looked in his 20's! No...really! LOL

He did one of my most favorite sets 'Follow My Ass'! His timing was great! I was so proud of him! He was on fire! AND my husband could finally see why I have been coming here for three years!
NOW I felt like a VIP! Of course we were so close I was afraid he might heckle us, but he was fixed on some other women from The Bronx, NY. Their participation in the improvisation was too funny!

We had a great time! The night passed to quickly!
I guess someone had brought all these elongated balloons that were tied to resemble the male phallus!
After Ant left the stage and Miss Shayma was closing it down...
somewhere off stage...some unseen person was throwing these balloons onto the stage, which was pretty funny by itself! LOL

But then ANT and Jason started have a sword fight with them behind the stage screen! I was laughing so hard I was crying! It was so nice to see ANT having fun while actually working! LMAO What a cool job to have!

I have to admit I was a little sad we didn't get a 'meet and greet' before the show, but the show was so good I forgot all about it.

After the show we waited for ANT and the gang to come out for pictures and signings. Everyone stayed for that! Nancy had brought them some peanut butter fudge and John brought the photos from the Annual BBQ 2009. My husband and I gave them T-shirts from Oklahoma. They were gracious and stayed until all the fans had left.

We four said our goodbyes and left in search of dinner. It was after 11pm and believe it or not, many restaurants close early...

Breads are always good.. muffins too.....but can also roast in oven....breaded zucchini is good... also can use it like eggplant and make zucchini parmesan ..... throw it in vegetable soup... julienne and saute in pan with some garlic... bread crumbs and parmesan cheese...

OMG... there is a show that comes on at three or three thirty am where they sell things that I have NEVER seen or heard of before... nor could I believe they are selling right there on MY TV!!! DEE Hi! I have been quiet. It's true. But I've thought of y'all every day!! This weekend my newest roommate moved in, my little Cousin Brock had his second birthday party - while his mom somehow made it through the day even though it was (literally) her due date for baby #2, a girl, who will hopefully arrive any day. Another good friend was in town on Friday from TX, for her Class Reunion, and we were "in talks" all day trying to make a plan to get together. In the end, I caught up with her exploits on FaceBook, and will plan to visit her in Dallas sometime this year.

My mom just called, she entered one of her prints in the State Fair Art Show this year. It's very very very competitive, literally thousands of entries are submitted, and only a few hundred are accepted. (They range from drawings, to sculptures, to prints, to paintings, etc...all kinds of work is displayed in that total). {{{hugs}}} You are the best! I am having a great time with the boys. This has been one of the first summers in a very long time that I actually relaxed and had fun. I have not stressed about work. I have not read any books relating to work. It has been wonderful. You are not weird for wanting fall to get here. I love fall and winter the best too! I love it when it is cold and wet outside.

Morning ALL! I really loved John Hughes and admired him so much and am so sad that he died way too early. I posted a really great blog of someones who was a pen pal with him while she was a teenager and how it all came to be was really funny if anyone wants to read it it is on my wall at facebook. It shows what a great father and person he was.

((ALI)) I totally agree about the back to school stuff! It is out of control and they don't allow enough time between classes anymore for students to go to their lockers so they lug everything around all day. My son wouldn't even wear a coat last year because he didn't want to carry it around and he didn't want to try to get to his locker before first period. LOL at the turtle description!! Too funny!

STEPH--I can't wait to see the bookshelves too! Wish you were teaching my sons class this year! I still haven't received any information about who his teacher is going to be and school starts next week---arrgh!
