This is just so shocking and so sad. I always loved him and his talents. He was just an amazing entertainer! Just does not seem real. May he rest in peace and prayers and sympathy go out to his family and friends. I wish the same to Farrah and her family as well.

Michael Jackson was a fabulous entertainer and did ground breaking things for the world of music and music videos. His personal life...who knows...I take anything the media says with a grain of salt...but I do know that no matter how I feel about him personally, and I honestly don't know how I feel...he was a son, a brother, a father, and an icon that will be greatly missed.

What really amazes me, shocks me, and in a way kind of freaks me out is how ridiculously this word spread. I had reports on Twitter and Facebook an hour ago...30 min. before any of the main news sources were reporting MJ's death. It was like a wildfire flying through cyberspace and cell phone towers. I think we have a reached a time and place in technology where there is no privacy for these families and in this case....how many people in the world knew before his family and closest friends did? Kind of freaky.

I am not sure if somebody from the colony said it, or if a friend said it on facebook.....but,
The reason I think the death of Michael Jackson has hit me so hard is because it is a huge piece of my childhood. How does one go about mourning the loss of a piece of one's childhood? It is hard to comprehend.

I spent the afternoon watching my boys play with trucks, sitting in the sun, and listening to the radio stations play MJ's songs over and over and over. A great way to reflect on the past.

STEPH- That's how I feel about Princess Diana. It may sound strange, but I still miss her. I have People magazines and other books all about her. She came to Vancouver at Expo 86 so I have a special book (all pictures) with her and Prince Charles and when she fainted and she was bulimic, but they thought she might be pregnant. Of course at the time we didn't know they were having problems. I feel weird about Michael Jackson as he was a big part of my fun life I used to lead, but I'm not in shock as he was so frail. I feel more will come out about illness, or precription drugs etc. There is an underlying problem other than how he died today I feel. I love watching all the videos of him dancing.

Great video Ant. Very well said. I had to take some time to process how I felt about MJ passing. When I heard he was rushed to hospital, I just wanted him to be healed. I don't know what he has or has not done in his life because I wasn't there. I have my own opinions of course. I will admit I was never a huge fan. I thought he was very talented and could really dance. I liked Thriller and that was really about it for me. My sister loved him and so had posters on the walls in the bedroom we shared. She had this huge one of him in gray with a yellow something. I want to say it was a bow tie, but maybe a vest? Does anyone remember that poster? I was sad when his life became so confusing and when he seemed so lost and reclusive. I am saddened he died and that his death will become such a circus for his family and the people who loved him. I just really hate death even though I don't think it is the end of us at all. I have come to the conclusion that I am sad by his death because he never got the chance to live without scrutiny, without suspicion, without being famous. I am sad for all of you who loved him and who will miss him. I am sad for his children and his family. I am happy for him because I believe he is in a place that makes Earth look like Hell and that all the things he suffered with here will now be removed from him. I pray he is at peace now and that his children will be well cared for.

I totally remember exactly where I was when Princess Diana was in the car accident. I remember staying up all night in order to watch the funeral. I remember bawling at the sight of the flowers on the horse drawn carriage with one card saying Mommy. It is amazing how pop culture icons can stick so vividly in your brain.

Did anyone ever get to see Michael Jackson in concert? I didn't, but one of my friends got to meet him at his concert. I want to say it was 1992, but I could be off on that date. She had medical problems and he provided a limo for her and she got to meet him. She was walking on air for weeks after that. He was very very kind to her.

DAWN mentioned earlier today that she got to see him in concert. I told her I was very jealous! The closest I ever got to the Jackson family was seeing Janet in concert.

Well this is one of those times you wake up feeling just strange and wondering did that REALLY happen? Just too sad but Michael has now hopefully found love and peace. I feel like he was so beloved by all..but just never could feel loved. You can be in the midst of a crowd and feel alone. I agree CHRIS that Martin Bashir interview horrible... I never bought into all that anyway.

I feel his family and those closest to him may have let him down and not protected him and been there for him as he entrusted them to be. We will never know. I just hope it is not a field day for the vultures out there now. His talents, all he shared with the world and the path he trail blazed are what need to be remembered.

I do not want to forget Farrah either. Funny.. I am sure there were many households that had either ( or both!) the famous Farrah red bathing suit poster or any number of Jackson Five or Michael ones. I remember Farrah's poster even being on the wall in John Travolta's room in the movie Saturday Night Fever!

DAWN ....I too have the magazines about Princess Diana... the same for JFK junior.. I was so shook up by their deaths... and can still feel it now. These are people who made a difference in the world .. in our lives and whose passings at such young ages and with such tragedy left so many mourning and heartbroken.

ALI-KAT- Yes, I have all the magazines about JFK Jr too. I stayed home from work the whole week to watch until they found his plane and funeral etc. I think I stayed up all night and the same with Princess Diana. Both of those deaths just threw me for a loop and then Mother Theresa died that same week. I don't feel so bad about Michael Jackson. I feel that his life was destined to end tragically so not too shocked. I feel even his family used him. Farrah I'm glad for her she is now out of pain and misery. If it was me pull the plug at that point. So I don't feel too bummed about any of it. Circle of life. Just like CHRIS says it's a lottery. I'm happy to see all the videos and dancing. I taped Much Music all night last night to watch all the videos.

Loved that poster!! Man, I had it bad for him in High School. I remember sticking up for him when the guys (who all listened to rock and metal music in our small town) tried to say he wasn’t cool. To all of us girls, he was just DREAMY!!

DAWN and STEPH – I was the very same way with Diana – I remember where I was when I heard that night about the car accident, and I prayed so hard that she would be okay. And, the funeral procession – I bawled and bawled – the image of the flowers and that card – “Mummy” – those poor little boys…it still makes me sad.

I’ve been listening to music, reading online, watching some of the TV coverage. I think I want to stick to the BET, MTV, VH1 type of stuff rather than the “Network” coverage – they all have this need to ask the so-called “hard questions”. I say, he was a genius. He was gifted beyond belief. He was misunderstood. And, yes, he was eccentric. And now, he’s free from any of the scrutiny and judgments that were passed. I’m happy about that much…but I SO wish he had been able to perform in the concert series next month! That would have been amazing.

And, Farrah – that documentary was heartbreaking – filled with such moments of joy and hope, only to be followed by tragic news as things kept spreading. Amazing talent, such a pure heart. Love her. She was so touched by the letters she got. A woman wrote her, saying she, too, had been diagnosed with anal cancer, and she had been so “embarrassed” to say it. The woman wrote: “Now, I just tell people I have what Farrah has – and it’s not so bad!” So sweet.

Evidently, it was almost inevitable that even in death, Ed McMahon is on the sidelines in a way. He was the perfect straight man for Johnny all those years – but always in the shadows. With the way things have gone this week, it seems like it was his destiny not to take “top billing” even in death. It cannot be denied that he has always been a class act, and we can be sure he was waiting to welcome his friends when they joined him.

I apologize for the randomness of this post but I just read about this amazing girl. She is 16 years old but she hasn't aged since she was about 2. Doctors are baffled by her. They say she has the mental capacity of a 6-9 month old. She is adorable.

I'm old enough to remember Farrah too. I knew her as a Charlie's Angel...but what I always thought was so cool was that she was married to the Six Million Dollar Man (who I had the action figure of...complete with the skin on the arm that peeled up to remove the computer chip and the button in his back that made him pick up the engine.)

My Steve Austin action figure, along with my Muhammad Ali, Evel Knieval, and GI Joe with the actual beard....used to reek major havoc on my sister's Barbie camp and androgynous Ken...kicked his pretty boy butt every time.

What I have noticed that in the tragedy of yesterday, the sense of community we have here has proven to be therapeutic and comforting. I had noticed with the beginning of summer, posts had slowed down. But, when we were all needing a little something extra to get through the day, where did we all come to? I have a friend who has cancer and she was saying that Farrah's death hit her so hard because she has been trying to focus on all the people who survive cancer and this was in her face. I just want to say what I said to her to anyone that may be feeling the same way. Statistically speaking more people survive cancer as a whole than die from it. Miracles happen everyday and so do tragedies. If you have an illness and you are losing hope, just know that you CAN survive it and that if someone else does not, that is NOT you. We are all going to die someday (like Chris said, it is a lottery) and none of us know how we will die or when. Don't give the lottery a chance by buying extra tickets.

You guys are all great and I have loved coming here and reading your thoughts on these passings. You have all been compassionate and loving. I have seen some pretty distasteful postings on facebook, twitter and myspace. I love the heart of this place!! Thank you ANT for providing it! ♥

STEPH--As of now I have A/C. The older man had to call his son to come help. Thank goodness! I was really worried, the front of my house is just a normal two stories, but the way the basement works in the back, the roof is completely slanted and it is like 3 and 1/2 stories and straight down to a concrete basketball court. I am pretty sure you would die if you fell off of it. I have no idea why the original owners put the cooling system up there! Thanks for asking! :o)

A friend just gave me the DVD's of the old show SOAP to keep me occupied!! LOL It is so funny..but really it is remarkable to see what they used to say etc on tv... things that would not be "politically correct" these days. They meant no harm but would never be allowed today. Also what I love is the women in this show actually look like real women... tons of expression to their faces and some lines here and there and not cookie cutter hair and bodies etc...not all completely flawless and identical to each other. It is refreshing and enjoyable!!

DEE, The QE is not where Michael Jackson played. He was at the Stadium where they play football. The dome by False Creek. I have seen shows at the QE like CATS and Evita etc, but Vegas is bigger etc. I have never been to a show on Broadway so I can't answer to that. Someone from the East Coast will have to answer you. I've been to Cirque Du Soleil in Everett, Washington in the tents. I had almost front row seats as I knew the singer so she got us free tickets. Unbelievable. I'd love to see "O" in Vegas. My girlfriend went and paid for good seats and she said it was well worth the money. It's underwater etc. Sylvie Frechette choregraphed the show years ago. She is an Olympic swimmer from Canada, but I don't think is with the show anymore.

NANCY- I will come back later is listen to Rita as it brings back lots of memories. I don't have time right now. Thanks for posting.

I am home from the show. The house is quiet...kids are grandma and grandpa's. My hubby is out watering so I thought I would stop by to say HI!

The show was fan-freakin-tastic!!! We were 11 rows from the front of the stage. 2 of the original cast members to RENT are staring in the traveling show....Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal who play Mark and Roger. OMG! I was in awe. My cheeks hurt from smiling so much. I cried like a baby at various parts. So incredible....the storyline, singing, dancing, etc. I am always amazed at how conditioned the performers are. I have loved RENT for so long, have the soundtrack memorized, seen it once about 15 years ago....but tonight it was (like Nancy said earlier...) MAGIC! Not only because I was on a date with my hubby but also because of the feeling in the auditorium. The love, admiration, and excitement of all those that were watching. A great night capped off by a wonderful dinner and walking along the waterfront in Portland on an 80 degree day. Can't get any better....or can it??? LOL

I wasn't allowed to watch or have anything to do with the Jackson Five growing up. Momma thought they were a bad influnce on the kids of that day. That was about 40 years ago, so I never got into MJ. My Momma approved the Partridge Family, The Monkee's, The Beatles, Crosby Stills and Nash and Bobby Sherman whom she took me to see on my 14th birthday and said never again. Too many screaming kids.

I remember discoving MTV when I was married with two babies and they would dance to the songs that came on. I remember when the Micheal Jackson video's came on that I thought the music was good and that his shows were wonderful. My favorite one was Beat It. I liked the beat even though I could never understand all the words, but that ok, I never understood all the words to other songs either whether his or somebody elses.

I'm sorry he passed away, but we all die sooner or later so a celebraty death has never affected me that much. I get upset if it is someone I loved. Oh well, we each are different people who react to things differently.

Some of my swelling is going down since they increased my diaretics to 800 mgs a day. I am suppose to go in now regularly for potasium checks. The only thing that really bothers me much is the tenderness of my legs because they are still swollen hard as a rock.

Just a tip for those of you who still need to rent cars in Seattle...I did lots of price comparisons and it is a lot more expensive to rent a car at the airport than it is to rent it off property. I checked with Avis and the same exact car was $100 more when rented at the airport as opposed to 3 miles away. I checked priceline.com and hotwire.com and they had great prices but not great reviews. So, I went to the American Airlines site and rented the car through them with Avis. It was $160 less than renting straight from Avis and it is located at the airport. So, wanted to pass it on.

I've now been at my office in Albuquerque. Mygosh, we could have eaten a giant, beefy enchilada together had I known!

But I just have to say that I am most bummed about the passing of Farrah. She was one person I sort of knew. Not that we were luh-vahs or anything. But years ago I did a portrait for her and got to meet & hang out with her. She was just so dazzling inside and out. So dazzling, in fact, that her spirit radiated in one's mind for years and years even afterwards. She was the real deal of a human being. Stuck in all that hair and teeth. Well, blessed with those things. But you know what I mean. :)
All things (and we peoples, too) are passing through this Life experience though. Its the spirit of a person that lasts.

Just a drive-by. Been very busy all weekend working in and around the house, getting things ready for July 4th.
My current discourse is on how tingly awesome it is when your spouse does some little thing that lets you fall in love with them all over again.
So, today we're at Kmart and I say, "Oh, bathing suits are 50% off." And what does my hubby say? Not "who cares." Not "then look at them." Not "so get one." No. My hubby says (with enthusiasm), "Get some!"
Operative word, ladies, being "some." What a guy. And what are the odds that a few days before July there would even be one in my size? You just know they are just about to put out Christmas trees and winter coats. But, yes, there were three in my size so I just grabbed them and threw them in the cart. It was so exciting. And he just beamed a smile as big as if he'd bought a new pick-up truck or something. How sweet is that?

BECK--Good information on rental cars. I always rent from Hertz just because I have always had a good experience with them. If you have AAA you can get some pretty good discounts at some car rental places. One thing I learned while my parents were renting a car from Hertz is that in Washington D.C. if you are in a car accident the police do not issue tickets, no matter whose fault it is. They just make sure there are no injuries and help to get cars towed, etc. Random info I know! :)

I have some good news. I have dropped three sizes now since I started to loose weight. I started out a 6x, then a 5x for which I bought new clothes, barely got a chance to wear, then to 4x, on clothes I wore even less down to 3x. I intend to wear the 4x pants a while, but the shirts slip off my shoulder. We had bought Mom some 3x's when she was in the rehab center because she said she didn't have enough clothes, but I bought the wrong size, she needed a 2x, so I kept the tops, she kept the pants anyway. I have 3x tops from her to wear and I don't intend to buy anymore clothes until I am sure I am thru shrinking. I think I will advertise my gently used clothes by size on Craigs List near Christmas in hopes someone will buy them as a gift. I can only hope, especially since a couple of the blouses have never been worn, only washed.
.
Anyway, I am happy the weight is coming off and I am loosing swelling everywhere except the legs, and the calves are still extremely sensitive to the touch. I guess this increase in water pills has done the trick. But now I have to go in and have my potassium level checked every few weeks.

Well, I am feeling better, but still not on my game. My hands are so out of practice of doing small work like sewing they cramp up, but I did get a lot done before I had to start the handwork on my grandnieces little sun dress. I have to pin, then baste the entire circumference (SP) of the little sun dress so I can edge it in rick rack. It is going to be soooo sweet on her. My neice sent me pictures of Haley, she is my grand niece, and what a beautiful little baby. I was already up here when she was born, so I've never seen her before, but the pictures are professional ones at 3 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months. She just turned 1 in June.

Wow! I just had an epiphany watching Beyonce. I love to picture Michael in the arms of an angel. That gives me so much comfort. I want to think of my mom like that. but cant due to my beliefs. But then i realized her spirit really is here. In the things i have of hers in my room. In the things i do just like her. In the way she affected peoples lives.

Like Michaels spirit is in millions of people. When we sing his songs or try to moonwalk or just think of him. Like when we think of Richard and light a candle for him. Their energy is in everything they touched. Object or person.

I love that thought. Cant say i dont believe in angels. i just think they are here on earth. and many are right here, at this colony. ♥

Good Morning everyone!

Well, I've had a basically sleepless night. I napped around 10:30 until midnight, then was up until 7 AM, napped again, woke with pain in my legs at around 8:30 and here is almost 10 and I am still going. Beats the heck out of the constant sleeping I've been doing lately. I rather like being awake. I am getting things done on the computer... Woo Hoo!

Today is a big shopping day for us. First I get our things at Walgreen's, then we go to Aldi's and shop there, then come home to deposit those Groceries, then off to Sams for the bulk stuff, home again to unload that stuff, then to Woodman's grocery for items I can only get there and the coupon things, home again, then to Walmart to get the last of the shopping done and things I can only get there. Today we throw in Ace Hardware and Jo-Ann's Fabrics cause I need duck cloth to repair an old captains folding chair and get buttons for Haley's little sundress. And we can't even start until after 2:PM due to doctors appointment this morning, Moms, not mine for a change. I hope I can last out especially in the grocery shopping as we are out of everything! I can already hear Corey complaining he is tired.

Me and Emma and a couple of my friends and their little ones are going soon to some activities for kids this Canada Day. There are celebration events all around but I found a nice park with all sorts of free activities for kids today. They have a free petting zoo, free face painting, free amusement park and amusement games and MoRE!. How fun! The fireworks will be too late for Emma but we will go to the day activities soon I just need to get her toddler stroller in the SUV and pack a cooler with plenty of water and snacks for the day we are off!

I had the best dream last night. Dreamt I drove up to Seattle at the last minute. I remember meeting KENNY, NANCY, BEDBUG, HEIDI, LYDIA, CRAIG, NEBBY, GINGER, QUEEN JANINE, CHRIS, DAWN, TERI, DR DONNA, BECK, and DEE. It was odd because of all the people I remember meeting, I saw each and every one of you clearly. Odd only because some of you I have never seen a picture of so I don't know what you really look like. It was a fun dream complete with laughs, tears, free t-shirts falling out of the sky from ANT. The t-shirts had announcements about getting free tickets to his shows, visiting him in California, and the colony creed. I don't normally remember my dreams but this was pretty vivid! So fun!!

DEE: Hmmm, "rather be pulled than drilled" ... I don't know, I'll have to think on that one awhile. Right now I'd be leaning toward being drilled.

So, an entertainment reporter from a nearby big city newspaper called me at work yesterday in connection with "Public Enemies" coming out. They heard we had a Pretty Boy Floyd exhibit and they gave us some publicity on a tie in, which was very exciting. Then this morning, a radio station on-air guy saw that and called me to do a taped phone interview on the topic. Double excitement.
I CAN'T WAIT to see the movie, and I'm excited that it's giving us (the museum) some free exposure and hopefully bringing some guests from this nearby metropolitan market. Yay!

Im not finding any of these routines very exciting. I enjoy the solos more of the bottom 3.

Jeanine and philip were really good, but that chain was so distracting.

kupuno and kayla were the best for me. The alien dance was really good, very interesting. but didnt leave me with a good feeling. The ballet sucked the rest of the life out of me. and i napped.

DEE- You really make me laugh so much!!! I'm not kidding. I don't laugh much, but I just read your write up and the part where you thought the ballet sucked the life out of you makes me think of my hubby trying to watch it with me. I honestly am laughing so hard right now I'm crying and trying not to wake him up!! You are too much!! Love your sense of humor and I know you meant you really did nap.
