But I wanted to say, Mr. ANT, that unconditional love and unconditional friendship are not all that easy to come by. Not truly.

That's why, when (and if) they do come our way, they should be valued as the great gifts that they are.

After all, not everyone is capable of giving that much of themselves.

And we're not always fortunate enough to be in the presence of it even when we think we're in some sort of a relationship in which we might think to "expect" it.

We're often just "walking among people" on this journey. And not every one of them is capable of what we might like or expect.

I suppose it's "sad" (or disappointing) on one level.

But it also teaches us to value those who do come into our life offering it.

Unconditional friendship & love should be appreciated all the more when it's encountered. For a person capable of giving that much is quite special indeed.

Welp, off to see a cheeseman about some cheese. :)

Are my friendships conditional?
Nope.
I am tolerant of people having a different view of things than I do.
More often than not, in fact, I take my friends' views on things as more important than my own. Not sure quite how to put that.
I also truly believe in "don't throw the baby out with the bath water" even in casual aquaintance relationships.
Will someone ditch me when the going gets rough?
Yep.
It has happened.
It has happened on myspace for me personally moreso than in real life.
I would like to pretend that a myspace friend "dumping me" hasn't hurt...... but it has.
Sad when people you like being around don't see you the same way.
But, you can't change them, especially if they won't have a dialogue with you.
I guess it speaks to their true character?
IDK.

As far as people leaving the colony due to a few blogs.
I guess they don't value the "community" here, let alone ALL the blogs of yours they do enjoy.
I am trying to see their point.
Not sure that I can.
There are some things, I suppose, that you could say or do on a blog that would upset me, like you torturing animals for instance, but ya know...... if you did do that, I would not have a knee jerk reaction. I would first off wonder if you were ok.
As you get to know a person, you hopefully can see what is not their normal character.
Rather than tossing them away, you instead maybe offer a hand and for sure a conversation. Conversation, however, is from a loving place, not a confrontational place.
It is not to "win", but to understand.

Many quotes come to mind for me about what seems to be people being judgemental, cuz to me, if people are so quick to dump a friend, they do it out of judgement.
Glass houses, let he who is without sin cast the first stone, speck in his eye.... log in your own, when you point a finger there are more pointing back at you.

One thing I have always admired about you ANT is that you always have said you will disappoint us. Most of us know we all fall short of others' expectations of us. We are human for cryin out loud. I personally can't live up to the Creed 100% anymore than I can live up to the Ten Commandments 100%!!!
That's right. I can't.
I mess up on speaking kindly about myself and forgiving myself.
I covet things: other peoples' lives, jobs, etc.
I take the Lord's name in vain.

So.
Even if those who have left or got pissed cuz they felt that you didn't live up to their expectations or the Creed ...... so???
If they are tossing the creed at you, they are not following it themselves perhaps.
There is nothing wrong with someone pointing out to you that they felt you fell short...... but in my opinion, they should come as a friend to talk about it, not an agressor.

Good morning Ant and Antlings. I do have conditions on my friendships, but they are basic human and animal rights issues. I cannot stand for anyone to hurt someone, especially a child or a animal. My heart hardens up in those instances and then I wish the worse for them.

My headaches are much better this morning. I.E. I didn't awaken with one and for that I am very grateful. I am perhaps thinking they are just chiropractic in nature and I can get Doc. Scott to fix them as needed.

Today, later this morning, I am going to my church and join the ladies of the Sewing Guild. They make layettes and blankets for the hospital's new borns. I am very much looking forward to that. In fact my Momma told me the other night that I sounded happier than I have in a long time. I am happy. I love Beloit. It is small and very friendly and I feel warmth and friendships here.

Ant you look nice in your new haircut. I like the other way just as much though. I guess it doesn't matter to me what you look like, it is your heart and soul that I love the most.

ANT in regards to the vlog that you talk about your friend Kathy Griffin I admire that you are such a good friend to talk about it openly. I agree it's not like you went behind her back and gossiped about it cause you mentioned it to her and she knows how you feel. As a good friend, you were probably still shaken up about it and maybe you felt that she didn't take you seriously when you mentioned it to her. I don't know her personally and I haven't seen her personally and no one here did either only you saw her in person and can be the judge if she is too thin or not and in my opinion if you thought she was I trust you and just hope and pray and wish her the best.

I find it a little sad in this world that we live now that being that thin looks "normal" It saddens me that nowadays little girls thinks that they have to look that way and more and more little girls younger and younger have body issues now. It's very sad to know that. As I look at my little girl my heart just aches that she would have to think that way someday. I hope and pray that she doesn't and that I am able to teach her everyday to be proud of who is she and accept herself like she is and that she is beautiful.

While I WANT to say that my friendships are unconditional, I realize that I have drawn the line before when a relationship becomes "toxic" to me. But I don't think that's a bad thing. Self-preservation is important, and I feel that in addition to loving others you have to love yourself, and if you love yourself you won't remain in a so-called friendship that you have determined to be toxic to your own well-being. If that makes any sense ...
ANT: It boggles my mind that people have decided to leave over the last two days, and it really disheartens me. I'm curious if these were active, long-time posters or transient, observANTs or what. I just can't help feeling that anybody who has been around here for any amount of time would understand that it's ok for us to have lively discourse on a topic on which we don't all agree. So what? I mean, sharing viewpoints and growing as a person is a big part of what I enjoy in my online friendships.

ANT my friendships are not conditionals but there are things that I don't tolerate though. Like in the past I had a friend that would talk behind my back and I let it go once and forgave her but when she did it again I sat down and had a talk with her and told her that I don't tolerate that kind of behavior and that if she were a true friend and cared deeply about me she wouldn't do that. Although I don't tolerate gossip, I accept the person like he/she is with their opinions and beliefs. I love my friends and respect them and only expect the same in return. You can't change anyone, the only person you can change is yourself so accept everyone like they ARE!

I am not someone who is good with goodbye. When we took our last drive off our street... I left knowing some were happy to see us leave... some were neutral (that hurt most) and didn't care. One or two came and let me know the friendship I had trusted for years was real... and they care... and want to continue even though distance and time separates us.
I guess today has struck a chord... This isn't "JUST" a virtual place. It's as tangible as any place. The friendships are real. Just look at allof Nancy BSA LOA visits. STEPHa beautiful and treasured friend... That is the VERY coolest thing. Some of us have talked on the phone... a few have visited... but we all care.

ATT is coming today to add a couple of phone jacks. This house has a weird layout. I guess you don't realize it until your living in it.
My kitchen cabinets looked similar... but as soon as I attempted to put glasses in one cupboard, I realized it is time to purge the excess. Not all bad, that. 25 years of hanging onto every little thing (literally).
I had a total Hysterectomy (sorry about TMI) 2 years ago and I still had all the girly products. Did I throw them out? NOPE! I don't even have a daughter and I am hanging onto these like they will be fashionable again. Like I said, it's hard to say good-bye.
I am in a weird mood....

Good Afternoon all,

I would like to say that my friendship is a valuable thing. It comes with condition.

First condition is honesty. You have to be a friend that will tell me what you really think and not just the nice stuff. If you are not honest with me, you are not worth having.

Second condition is loyalty. If I am doing something wrong, you either need to save bail money for me or be sitting on the bench next to me waiting for another friend to bail us both out.

Third is forgiveness. If I should act like a human being and make a mistake, you will realize that I did not intentionally mean to harm you and accept that. Accept an apology and know that I mean it.

I am a good friend to those I have the priviledge to call my friend. I have friends that I have known for over 40 years ( I am 41). It is not a word I use lightly, it is a commitment. I am the friend that helps you move or picks up your mom if she needs a ride. You don't have to thank me but you should never cross me. That would just be disrespectful and then you no longer deserve the priviledge of my friendship.

If colony members are going to leave because they aren't "comfortable" with your last two vlogs, then it is a gift that they walked away.

Life can be hard......get a helmet.

To those of you who have given me friendship...I continue to be grateful for it and cherish the value of the gift. No disrespect is meant to the point ANT is making.

Speaking of friends.........where the heck have you guys been. I haven't talked to you guys in days, weeks. =)

Okay, so this is what I'm not understanding here. Aren't we all entitled to do what we want? Whether we all agree with what ANT did or not is not up to us to decide. That's part of life. We all have our own opinions as well. That's what makes us all the individuals that we are.
Friendships shouldn't be conditional. Just because you disagree, doesn't mean that either of you are right or wrong...it's just means you disagree. With that said, I have been in some very "toxic" relationships that have caused me a lot of grief. I am happy to say that those people are no longer in my life and it's for good reasons. Does it hurt? Yes, of course. Is it worth it to disconnect? Yes, of course. We all come into each others lives for a reason no matter how long that time is. You take from those relationships what you need to, so if people want to move on from here because of a couple of blogs that we really know nothing about, than so be it. Like I said the other day, she's ANT's friend and not any of ours. We don't know her other than what we see on t.v. If you think that ANT is making judgements about her, well, I think that's the pot calling the kettle black. You are then passing judgement on him for what he decided to do.
Life is too short to let things like this bother us.
On a side note, I just reconnected with an old very good friend of mine that had been in a bad relationship and lost her mother, and during that time had done some not so nice things to some friends, me being one of them. We have moved on and all is forgiven. She and her family were wonderful to me and I am happy to have her back in my life. She is also in a very good place now in her life, which is also great.

I also forgot to mention....ANT, your hair looks great!

As long as I get ONE nakey blog each month, we'll always be friends.

Honestly all my relationships, not just friendships are conditional. The only realationship that I have thats unconditional is the one I have with my father. That being said I certainly wouldnt end a friendship over a blog or someone's opinion. All relationships and bumps and disagreements no matter what the extent of the relationship is. KevT - Welcome back from vacation! Have I missed the details of your island adventure? I hope not.

My bestest girl friend and I have been bestests friends for almost 26 years now, it will be 26 in October. How can we keep track of it, well it is easy, I met Lynnette a few months before my oldest son was born and we have been great friends ever since. She and I don't always agree on things, for instance I am a born again Christian, but not a bible thumping one, and she isn't, but how can she see what God can be like if I leave her. At least now I can bring up the subject without her throwing up walls everywhere, and I know she cherishes my honesty and respects that I love and worship the Lord. She is honest too or we couldn't have been such good friends for as long as we have been. She has been there for me all these years I was so messed up and I have been here for her when she needed a shoulder to complain on or cry on. We are as different as day and night, and yet we have remained friends all these years. She remembers my boys as babies, no other friend does. And to me that is special in itself. She can enjoy my memories of them and share some of her own about them and her son Adam, who I met when he was 13. He has now left us, and is with Bucky his dog. I believe in ghosts because I have seen one, and one is enough, so I firmly believe that Adam and Bucky roam the woods around the house he used to own. He and his dog loved taking long walks there. Besides, Adam said before he died he smelled wet dog in his house, and he had no dog at that time. Also he mentioned to his mother about a dent in the bed about the size of Bucky before he died. Lynnette knew when Adam left that Bucky had come to get him so they could be together. Enough of this, I am crying. Anyway, it takes all kind of people to make friends, and Ant is my only gay one. I met some in college and enjoyed them very much. I even went to the bar with Abury to meet his boyfriend who I thought was rather nice. Too bad they were just learning about HIV. It took both their lives. Anyway, enough of me. I love all of you all. Jean
