My thoughts and prayers are also with the U.S. Volleyball coaches, the players, their friends and families. Such saddness on the first day of the Olympic Games.

Such a bummer of a day thus far and I have only been awake for an hour. I have faith that things will start looking up.

Ok why was it in Spanish? Actually love that movie and love Bernie Mac! He was so funny and talented! It is a sad day indeed. Bernie Brillstein too? Oh my heaven is filled with lot's of greatness.
When I read the other day that Bernie Mac was in the hospital with pneumonia I was worried because I knew about his disease that he had. I am sure he put up a strong fight and I am hoping that he went peacefully. Lilly and I have been watching reruns lately of The Bernie Mac show and both of us have laughed and laughed!
ANT, I hope you are doing well and handling these deaths ok. I am sure you knew both these men and I am sending you some hugs.

I forgot to tell you....your blog is great. I was reading through the blogs 2 nights ago and I came across the "UPDATE Dedicated to all the little children" blog. I cried. I couldn't read it all the way through for a long time. It killed me. As a mom I could not ever imagine that happening to an innocent child. Thank you for posting that although I did wake up with nightmares about the baby for a few days. But it has made me more aware....thank you

Sadly, the Olympic spirit isn't quite what it's suppose to be - what with mad gunmen and nations warring. The concept was that nations discontinued warfare during the Games.
(But then again, we've somewhat devolved since the ancient Athenians).

I'm with you STEPH. If my husband cheated on me. His head would spin so fast he wouldn't have a clue what hit him. I've told him with my illness if you want out let me know as I'll let you go because I love you. If you want to cheat go away. He is shocked by my attitude, but that's how I feel. It's like these men that kill their wives. Divorce is a better option! Ha!!!

One of my best girlfriends is Chinese (the one that is 49yr with colon cancer). She has been my friend for 28yr and I am going to ask her how she felt watching the opening cerimonies etc. She is from Malaysia, but came here at the age or 4yr so she is very Canadian, but has visited China.

So quiet around here today.
Hope everyone is busy with something fun.
Just got home from a 3 mile walk with the boys for lunch! It was fun. NAP TIME FOR ALL NOW!!! lol

Please read Nanasu's blog. Too funny. I just love it. My husband and I haven't bought gifts for at least 20 yrs. We save our money and go to Hawaii. My friends for their birthday I give my time and effort to meet them for lunch. I usually give something very small (fancy shower gel or something) and pay for a nice lunch. My time is the most precious of all if you are ill you know what I mean.

Holy Shock-fest Batman! I am so saddened by the news we've seen today. BERNIE MAC? WHAT? I logged in to my PC, Yahoo! pops up, huge pic of Bernie, and I'm thinking "Fun, what new show will he be on..." Then I read it. I had to read it again. I can't believe it. Whew. Gone too soon, that's for sure. He will be missed.

Today was my friend Chere's shower. It was a LOT of work, but it turned out really well. We had fun games to play (non-traditional) and everyone laughed a lot. She opened presents for over an hour; due to different family members being far away, she basically just had this one shower, rather than having one with co-workers, one with friends, one with family - it was just one big huge pile of presents. We had GREAT food, wow, I'll have to get one of the recipes and share it here. I'd still be standing there licking the serving bowl if my friends hadn't been ready to leave when we did. Mommy-to-be looks cute as a bug; we helped her get the things all packed up and home where her hubby carried it all in. They are so excited!

Watched the re-run of the finale of Sex and the City last night. (NEBLINA did you see that one?) LOVE when Big shows up. LOVE when Carrie takes him down (trips him) when he's on his way to beat up the Russian. And, when Charlotte and Harry get their picture and letter about their baby girl (adopting from China) at the end, I cry like a baby myself. Babies, babies, everywhere. Someday, I keep telling myself....someday.

Having a good Sunday people?
I hope so.

I just got news that our 8 yr old great-niece is FINALLY leaving the hospital after well over 100 days there in ICU and a bone marrow transplant that didn't work. She has a tough road ahead, but at least she will be out of the hospital and hopefully can have a "new normal" type of life.
I woke up today not feeling great and then read her caringbridge site.
How I could ever slightly feel sorry for myself is beyond me after all that little girl has experienced.
Lessons come from many places.

Bernie Mack may his soul rest in peace. We just never know when God will call us home.

CRAIG- Once again thanks for the song. Music can lift the spirits.

I'm trying to get ready to go to grocery shopping. I just dread it. You have no idea how I can't stand the crowds of people. I put my name in for a couple of books at the library, but they haven't pulled them yet for me.

Help, my cooking ant friends! I got a bunch of fresh peaches today, so I wanted to make cobblers. I pulled a recipe from cooks.com and followed it to the letter. While they baked, I prepared a peach pie with a crumble top.
When I opened the oven to pull them out, I was horrified. They were both dark, dark molasses-like brown and gooey and burnt onto my two new beautiful bakware dishes my mom got me from QVC.
I've had a few cooking mishaps in my day but never a full-blown disaster like this
I went ahead and put the pie in, not knowing what had gone wrong. But I'm worried about the pie, too. You know the way there are eating apples and cooking apples? Is it the same with peaches? I've never heard of that, but I can't imagine what else could be wrong.
Here's the recipe I followed. Does anything look wrong to anyone? I wasted so much time and money baking today ...

FRESH PEACH COBBLER

1/4 c. plus 2 tbsp. butter
2 c. sugar, divided
3/4 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
Dash of salt
3/4 c. milk
2 c. sliced peaches

Melt butter in a 2 quart baking dish. Combine 1 cup sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt; add milk and stir until mixed. Pour batter over butter in baking dish, but do not stir.
Combine peaches and remaining 1 cup sugar, spoon over the batter. Do not stir. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

My plan was to bake Zucchini bread now, but my heart isn't in it.

BedBug - HOW WEIRD! I have a peach cobbler in my freezer...and I NEVER have a peach cobbler in my freezer!
I mean, like, NEVER.
But there one is none-the-less.
A peach cobbler.
Frozen.
Someone is coming by this week who mentioned peach cobbler to me once (in a good way) and so when I saw the peach cobbler, I bought it.
And froze it.
But I've NEVER done that before.
And now here you are with your peach cobbler recipe.
Well, it's spooky, I tell ya!
Oh, what am I doing?
Well, I was surveying all me'lands and cursing the day I started this swimming pool project.
So, I cursed and then went to my freezer where I looked at the peach cobbler.
Now I'm off to walk the doggies.
Craig - is Mr. ANT jetting off to Provincetown? Is it for a show (well, you know, a gig? lol).

So there goes my theory about cooking and non-cooking peaches. I have NO idea what happened to the cobblers. None. It's a freakin' mystery.

BedBug - Oh, I agree. There's nothing so good as a crumble. :)
It mustn't be too over cooked, of course. And it can't be too powdery, mind you.
But a crumble, when done right, is a num yummy nibble of golden buttery sugary cinnamony (and whateverelseisinacrumble) goodness.

Although I must admit that I ave to be in a crumble mood. Other times, I prefer a straight pie-pie with a top and everything. :)
But then other times, I get this hankering for some crumbles. It's weird because I get a crumble craving in either the middle of summer or in the middle of winter. I think it's because warm crumblies in the summertime go so well with vanilla ice cream. And in the wintertime, well, they go so well with vanilla ice cream (I'M A WARM BLOODED MAMMAL! I CAN ADAPT)!

Oh my goodness! That is quite a project. It sounds absolutely gorgeous! The kind of pool I would love to have if I lived in a warmer climate, had a bigger house, and had money to afford it...with some extra for a speedo wearing pool boy!!! Maybe someday....I hope you will share pictures when it is all done and complete!!
