Some Tips...

Here are great tips for eating healthy at home:

•	Keep foods interesting by adding different flavors and textures. Add small bits of un-sweetened dried fruit and nuts to salads or add to a marinade mix before baking dishes.
•	Keep frozen fruits and vegetables handy for convenience. But use fresh whenever possible.
•	Pay attention to the sodium content in foods and beverages. Canned foods are generally very high in sodium.
•	Look at what you’re adding into your meal with sauces, seasonings and dressings. These things add calories, fat and sodium to your diet. Be sure to account for these in your daily allowance.

Patience is a Virtue

I joke that I stayed as long as I did on the ranch because each week someone just went crazier than me. When I look back on this experience I am amazed at my success. I lost a total of 75lbs in 9 months and this time without diet pills. It was a slow process for me but as we know our bodies are all different. I learned patience and consistency pays off. I am very happy with my weight loss and where I am at today. I work out 4-5 times a week now and eat healthy balanced meals. My family is much more active and healthy.

Here are great tips for eating healthy at home:

•	Keep a bowl of fruit on the table, counter, or in the refrigerator
•	Raw nuts such as almonds, cashews and peanuts are a great healthy snack.
•	Cut back on the white starchy foods and incorporate more whole grains such as brown rice, oatmeal and things cooked with whole-wheat flour.
•	Buy fresh vegetables in season. They cost less and are likely to be at their peak flavor.
•	Let children be a part of the meal planning. If they pick it they are more likely to eat it.

Inspiration

I am so glad to be an inspiration not only to my children but also to all of you struggling with your weight. I want everyone to know that my battles are never going to be over, even with all of this I have my bad days. It's part of life. Don’t beat yourself up if you eat something bad, or don’t get to the gym everyday. Make better choices tomorrow and most importantly HAVE FUN. Find things that stimulate you. Try new things and take risks. I get bored easily and the gym doesn’t always keep my interest. I have found that by changing up my routine and incorporating different types of exercise I have had better results and am able to stay focused. Even if you love the gym its good to get out doors especially with summer coming. Go for a jog or find a trail to hike. I am taking yoga 2-3 days a week and started taking a belly dancing class, it’s great fun. I’m not very good but I laugh the whole time, and we all know laughter burns calories. I hope you are all having a great week...

Counting Calories

A gift far greater than I ever expected! Through every diet I've been on (and there have been a lot of them) I never once paid attention to calories. I ate whatever I wanted, especially when I was pregnant with my daughter. My husband Billy and I celebrated the whole time. I gained 100 pounds during that pregnancy. When I delivered her I weighed 248 pounds. I was so big I could barley fit between the shampoo bowls to do my clients’ hair.

I lost a bit after she was born but not the healthy way. I always turned to diet pills instead of good old-fashioned diet and exercise. I wanted it fast and easy as most of us do. Every time it came back plus more. I'd feel great for a while but always went back to my old eating habits.

This experience on The Biggest Loser was not a diet, it was a lifestyle change. As cheesy as that sounds it’s true. I was gone long enough to truly change my frame of mind to now enjoy healthy food and exercise. This is so difficult in the real word but with support and dedication it’s possible. Incorporate these changes in your everyday life and start changing those bad habits.

If you have kids, keeping them interested in healthy eating choices can be a challenge. Kids can be picky eaters so it’s important to incorporate a variety of fruits and vegetables with a well-balanced diet.

Starting children early with good habits is a gift that will last a lifetime. According to the USDA the definition of a healthy diet is one that:
· Emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fat-free or low-fat milk products
· Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs and nuts
· Is low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium), and added sugars

Take time to make your self a priority, you'll thank yourself tomorrow!

Well I think this is very interesting and thought I would share it with all of you.

I've been doing some self evaluation. Watch Out! Throughout this process there has been so much focus on the way I look – How Much Do I weigh? Am I Keeping It Off? Am I Happy? There is so much emphasis on my body. Okay, I get that it's what part of this show is about, but the bigger picture here is about how it has changed me as a whole; how it altered my person. I have said before it is a struggle everyday. Nothing was magic at 'The Ranch' and Bob didn't turn on a 'Fix It Switch' and I sure as hell don't have Bob at my door every day. With all that said here's my point. Recently I was approached by a plastic surgeon to have some work done by him. It seemed to be a good opportunity and considering my dramatic weight loss in a short period of time, there was a few things I felt could be fixed so I was thrilled. I began to mentally prepare myself for the surgery and with that I started criticizing every bit of my body. Being very hard on myself, losing sight of my accomplishments and focusing on my imperfections. I was becoming obsessed with what was wrong with my body. It was horrible. Not just for me, but for those closest to me too.

Well, for a few reasons it didn't work out with that particular doctor. I was devastated and began to hate my body even more. It took me a few days and a ton of love and support from my husband and friends for me to get back to that place of confidence and to regain that sense of peace about my body. To Embrace It...All Of It. In my disappointment that old saying that everything happens for a reason kept coming back to me. This experience gave me time to finish healing mentally and realize how beautiful my body is. I know I am never going to be a twig and weigh 120 lbs. I will never have a perfect body and I am okay with that...I had to fix that image I had in my head of the old Andrea.

In talking to other people in my situation this is something that we who have lost a great deal of weight now face. I am sharing this with you in hopes that before you go and try to "fix" those imperfections you see that you truly take a look inside yourself and make sure that you are doing it for the right reasons. Don't expect perfection. Embrace YOUR Body. Don't compare yourself to anyone else except the reflection you see staring back at you everyday. That is the only one you have to answer to – and the one that should love your body the most. I might eventually have the procedure, but I know now my head, my heart and body will all be in the right place.

Andrea Overstreet : )
www.andreaoverstreet.com

Live Life, Have Fun and Stay Centered!

I have always tried to share this experience

and encourage others to jump start their life and make a change. If your life is being affected by your weight, change it... I agree that it is not as easy as turning an on/off switch, but it could be as easy as taking a walk. Now that I am off the show I try to do something every day - go for a swim, take the kids for a bike ride, yoga, and of course cardio & weight training at the gym. I have not yet reached my goal weight yet, but hope to do so by the end of summer. I battle with 10 pounds, some days I win, some I lose. As we all know summer is approaching and so are the barbecues and get togethers that can sabotage our great week. Do your best to make good choices and stay away from snacking on chips and finger foods. They are often loaded with calories, fat and sodium. Instead go for fresh fruit, protein and salads. My friends and family know that it helps me to have those healthy alternatives and that I enjoy myself more when food is not an issue. There is nothing wrong with bringing something of your own or requesting a healthy option when it's friends and family. I have found that if I offer to bring something that my healthy dish is what goes first. Live by example, you never know who you might inspire to get on track.

I hope you are all having a great week...Your Friend Andrea
