The Biggest Loser - Week 1

Wow. My first week with Biggest Loser has been so overwhelming, fun, exciting and definitely inspiring. Having watched plenty of ‘reality’ tv over the years, I thought I knew what to expect, but being a part of a show like BL is way more intense than I expected. And I feel I have already bonded with the Contestants and the Trainers.

Right from the beginning, the producers are determined to keep us all on our toes this season. The Contestants and I found ourselves in the middle of the desert. It was hot and sunny… everyone was sweating!!! And we were all in for a very exciting morning. Standing closest to me was Jerry, Kae and Lezlye. Being a competitive person myself, I was surprised to see that whenever anyone expressed concern about the challenge facing them someone else would immediately jump in to motivate them. As I said, I realized right away how affecting this experience was going to be. Every single person is so motivated and determined to be here. I can see already how hard it is going to be to say good bye to people as they get eliminated.

Just talking to Bob and Kim motivated me to work out and of course, I had tons of questions about how they train – Bob knows one of my trainers. It’s such a small world. And he also invited me to come take his spin class which I am definitely going to do. (Juggling both jobs, I’m not sure how much free time I’ll have, but especially being a part of this show I know I’ll be MAKING time to work out!) It’s a good kick in the you-know-what to see Bob and Kim every week… and it keeps me away from the sweets table too!

At the end of their first challenge – racing to Bob and Kim – it was so awesome to see everyone helping each other make it to the finish line. After Jerry and Phil claimed Team Captain status, they kept going back out into the desert to encourage their future teammates. That sincerity and commitment is what this show is really about. One of the first twists in the game appeared as I explained that winning the Team Captain role meant they got to choose their teammates. What an incredibly difficult task – to pick teams, only having known each other for 2 hours! And on top of that – everyone thought that the people who weren’t picked would be going home… and out of the game.

It was so hard for me to watch Phil and Jerry struggle with such a difficult situation, because all the responsibility for this decision was on their shoulders. And as we were standing outside the Last Chance Diner, and people’s names were being called, and the number of spots left were dwindling, I think we were all recalling what it feels like to be picked last for the kickball team in grade school. And as the Red and Blue teams headed off in their bus, it felt so horrible to leave the 6 remaining contestants standing there. As a fan of reality tv, I knew it would be awesome to watch on tv when Jillian comes in to their rescue – and we can all agree now, it WAS so incredible to watch – but seeing them deal with their disappointment of not being selected was so tough.

Day 2 was the Contestants initial weigh-in. It was clear how nervous everyone was to see that number on the scale. B. (Bryan) shared with us that he hadn’t taken his shirt off in front of other people in years. He avoids swimming, any situation where he might have to show his body in front of other people. But he pulled that shirt right off when it was his turn to get on the Biggest Loser Scale. All of them showed equal bravery facing up to their fears during that first weigh in. Patty, Lezlye and Nicole all talked about how long it’s been since they even stepped on a scale. But as painful and difficult as it was for all of them, they all got through it showing the inner strength and courage that will see them through this game.

Both teams handled the challenge well – it was amazing the way the Red team dragged the plane down that tarmac. Phil really stood out as Red Team Captain, and was the anchor that really helped them to victory. Seriously, if you can pull a 21 ton jet, you can do anything, right?!?!

Even after a weeks worth of work-outs, eating healthy and focusing so intently on these new healthy life-styles, it was still difficult to take both teams through their first weigh-in. I saw equal portions of hopefulness and dread at finding out how much weight they’d lost over the course of one week. This is the first season that the trainers participate in the weigh-ins with their teams. It was impossible to tell who was more nervous, Bob & Kim or the players!! As David (aka Cowboy) pointed out, up till now, they’d been operating on blind faith, counting on Kim and Bob to know how best to help them. Everyone put up really amazing numbers. It was really remarkable to see how much weight they were able to lose… though all the contestants were shocked to see how many pounds Jerry lost!!! Jerry has broken all kinds of Biggest Loser records! And he helped keep the Blue team out of the elimination room.

But unfortunately, there is a downside – someone has to go home. The Red Team and I went through our first elimination together. It was really tough for them to send a teammate home, even though it was clear in the end that Amber really wanted to go. I spoke a little with Phil about his thoughts about Amber leaving, since he chose this team. Phil stayed positive, wishing Amber the best, but it seemed also, that they all felt her struggle adjusting to Campus Life, was a distraction for the Red Team.

It’s been such a hectic and enlightening first week, everyone getting to know each other and learn the game. I am excited and nervous for both teams next week. I want the Red Team to come back from losing a member to really prove they are a united team. And I want the Blue Team to not get thrown by all that weight they lost right off the bat – they will need to really stay in high-gear to keep those numbers high two weeks in a row. Yes, I’m rooting for all of them… I can’t play favorites!!! ☺

How incrediably awesome, Ali. I am so glad you are the new host to the show. You have such genuine compassion for people. I can't wait to see how it all turns out.
On the other hand, I don't like the way they have been writing Sami on DOOL. EJ raped her!!! :( There is NO WAY she would start to have feelings for him, & her & Lucas have worked too hard to get where they are.:)
Just my thoughts, You have a good day.

i was so surprised and happy to see you hosting this years BL-- you were great :)

Congratulations on being selected to be the host of The Biggest Loser ! You did a great job on this week's show. As a long time fan of Sami's it's great to have the opportunity now to see what you're like when you're not acting. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the new season brings for all of the contestants as well as what the future holds for Sami on Days. Best Wishes to you and your family.... BTW, You're doing a wonderful job as Coleen, too !

Hey, I'm a young admirer (14). I love your character, Sami on Days and I love to watch you. unfortunately I'm at school when it comes on. You were great on the big premiere of BL. Hope you had fun in NYC. Can't wait to see you again on tv. Have a great day.

Ali,
I think you are an awesome actress! You are my favorite on DOOL. I am an ejami fan. I loved you on BL. Good Job! I am a huge fan. Keep up the good work.

Hi Ali

I'm such a fan of yours. You're my favorite character on Days and glad to see you hosting Biggest Loser.

Good luck
Deanna

Hey, if you ever want to change your life for a more normal one, give me a jingle! I've been watching days since the 70's as a kid and never missed an episode until the digital age.... I can look at them a day ahead now.

I thought a really nice reality show would be a famous person changing lifestyles with a really "boring" but on the small town side of life.. I don't think either one of us could handle it! ha ha!!!

Dont' know if famous people ever really have a chance to really live life with normalcy, like I do.

Take Care, and keep up that never-ending energy!

You are doing a great job on BL!

Ali- So happy that you are the new host of THe Biggest Loser. I have been a fan of yours since you started on DAYS. I do have to admit it is a little odd wanting you to be evil on DAYS, and then loving your sweet and motivating personality on Biggest Loser. You are doing a great job!! Oh please try to stay away from EJ, I love him!! Just Kidding

Are you people actually watching this show? I'm sorry Ali but you are not the person for The Biggest Loser. Can we get someone like Sandra Bullock that has some personality?

can you please tell me where i can get the green v-neck shirt you wore on the vote off portion of sept. 25th's show?? Or at least what brand it is so maybe i could find one. I loved it. and you look great, thanks, sara

hey Ail i am happy you are on the Biggest Loser, you feel for other Person, and i just want to know where did you get that green neck shit i love it and i would love to get one, thank you for you time kelly

Yahoo news indicated today that you may be canceling Journeyman. Are you crazy? It's one of the best new shows on TV, and the BEST NEW show on NBC. Give it a chance. Remember, "Time changes everything." A close second is "Life." Third, I'm sorry to say, is Bionic Women. Luckily, you have three cast members from Battlestar Galactica on Bionic Women which helped boost ratings(I expect the show to get better soon).

I want to see all three succeed. PLEASE DO NOT cancel JOURNEYMAN.

As a footnote: BEST NBC OLDER SHOWS still on the air... My Name is Earl, The Biggest Loser, and Dateline.

Coming to you LIVE from Sacramento. Back to you NBC.

I love the Biggest Loser Show, I know their struggle and can relate to the pain they feel with being over weight. I myself can no longer play games I need to lose weight or I will lose my life. This show keeps me motivated, I hope it never gets canceled.

Kay should have won the triathlon. After she won the bike, she should have been able to start the run right away instead of waiting for the others to finish. Then after the bike, she should have been able to start the swim giving her a head start. People who compete in tri's usually have one weak area but can make it up by doing well in the other two.

Congratulations on being selected to be the host of The Biggest Loser !
Alison i love watching you on the The Biggest Loser .

Ali
I have watched the biggest loser since season one and I am so amazed at the success of all of the contestants. I was wondering how one would apply to be a contestant on the show. I have struggled with my weight my whole life and is real emotional subject for me. I have been reminded about my weight pretty much every day by people and I just know that there is a skinny person just wanting to come out. I would so like to see that person. I think that she would be a much happier person. Please please help me. I would so appreciate your help on how I could apply to be on the show. Thanks Julieann

Ali,
I am a huge (360 pound) fan of the biggest loser. My best friend and I are interested in becoming contestants on the biggest loser couples. Please let me know how to sign up as a contestant. Thanks, BJ Dotson

sorry forgot to leave my email. BJ Dotson

Hi Ali,

I have been watching the biggest loser and I am really interested in becoming a contestant on the biggest loser but I am all the way in Jamaica, hopefully the biggest loser club can come to Kingston Jamaica. I also love you on Days of our lives and some how I have a soft spot in my heart for EJ even before he changed his attitude. Ali, lets keep the link.

love u

OMG
I am 22 years old and I have been watching Days of Our Lives since I was five. We grew up together. lol! I have to say I was a big Jillian fan, I put her on a trainer petistal. I remember once I was watching Tyra Banks and this guy named Ian had a team that won over Jill's team and the only reason her team didnt win was because they were lazy and crazy. They even made fun of Jill's program and her. I was so mad cause every time Jill would try to say something Tyra and Ian would diss her. I havent watched Tyra Since, but tomarrow that will change. No one messes with Alli. I was so pissed that she upset you, it was uncalled for and just plain ignorant. I am forever your fan, No matter what the world may say you have done wrong I will support all that you do. I was hopeing to get a chance to be a contestant on bl because I have wanted to meet you my whole life, and I figured since I am fat and you host a weightloss show it was finally alined for me to have a chance for my dreams to come true. But if I had have been there I would have had your back girl.

forever your fan

Hi Allison, I just finished watching tonight's episode and am curious to know more about the syndrome Jay's daughter has been diagnosed with, Beckwith -Wiedermann. As a nursing student graduating in May here in Rhode Island it has never been a topic brought up in our studies. Is it possible to put up a website that can be reached describing this condition or even better, a way to contact Jay's foundation? Thanks for your time. (P.S. Love the show! Very inspirational!)

Hi. I am a 19 year that gain 50lbs from my pregnancy and can't seem to lose the weight. I was wondering, how would I become a contestant on the biggest loser couples or singles? Please let me know how to sign up as a contestant. Thank-You

Hi Ali: Just finished watching biggest loser tonight(april8 canada) and am extremely angry at the outcome--come on!! changing the rules mid-stream--and ,of course, when the top 2 finalists are women(don't we always get the bad breaks!!.This voting is akin to a popularity contest--it demeans your achievements, and ties into a lot of "fat"people's problem, poor self-image,wanting to be liked-I'm discusted!

Hi Ali,
I am 16 years old, i have been watching biggest loser since the first season. I have been trying to lose weight for 2 years now, and it is so hard. It would be a good idea to start a teenage biggest loser, to help teenagers that are over weight like me.
Thanx!

Ali, you need to loose some weight yourself, baby or no baby

I writing for a dear friend of mine. He is a young 43 and will do anything for anyone. He has such a fun laugh and spirit about him you can't help but love him. He is at a weight right now that is going to land him in the hospital soon...over 600 pounds. He has tried diets,dr. programs, meal plans...He has been looking into various operations but they are telling him he is to big and has to loose weight first...this is not happening. Please help him...he deserves it.
Thankful friend

I would love to see or obtain a Cd (sound recording) of Jillian Michaels comments/words when she is working the black team. It would be motivating to hear her, while working out. As if she is standing right there, making me work out harder. ...Just an idea. :o)

hi ali
could u tell me if biggest loser will ever come to canada

Hi Ali
Well i have watched the biggest loser from season one. Love the show and just asking if the show would ever come to canada.
yvonne

Hi Ali,

I love to watch the show and have been watching since season one! I make sure I don't miss it.. I dream about it hosted in Canada or if would ever take Canadian contestants. It's not the same when you were not there.

Hi Ali,
I love the show and will not miss it. I fantasize about being in Canada or being on your show.. Every Tuesday night I dream even more after the show. My co-workers laugh at me. If only Canadians were allowed to be contestant.

Will Biggest Loser ever come to Kenyucky ?

Hi Ali,
I just want to share that my family is so inspired by this show, as you are. You look fantastic! I want to share something with you that might help these contestants, as well as others. I just learned about this product and have to share the information with others...Are you aware of a targeted applicator that helps reduce trouble areas in 45 minutes? After pregnancies, it is so common for us moms to have a hard time getting our pre-baby bodies back. That is why I wanted to know more. Our products were also featured at the Emmys...so it's good stuff. If there is any way to share more with you about this, to help others, please let me know. I also have a great 3-day detox meal plan that goes along with this, which my good friend Krystal created. She's a certified nutritionist and is passionate about helping people get strong. Thank you for your consideration. We are here to help people loose inches, detox and get their sexy back! :)
