TV, Easter and More
Hey, all! What’s up?!
Hope you all had a great weekend. I did! I just finished an amazing novel, Nineteen Minutes by, Jodi Picoult. I am a great admirer of hers, she is a tremendous author. I snatch up each new book she puts out, they are always a gorgeous, breathtaking read - often with challenging, controversial subject matter. It has never taken me more that 3 or 4 days tops to read her books, because they are the definition of a page-turner! You just can’t put them down. And this latest is no exception. I have a little section of my message boards on my site – www.alisonsweeney.com – called “Ali’s Book Club”. If you want to stop by, share what you’re reading, or get some ideas of new books, and then talk about what you’re reading, stop by! I love to read, and it is so fun to share what you thought about the book with other readers.
There is so much good tv on right now. I decided to download some of my favorites to watch on my iPod while I work out. (anything to make that dreaded cardio go by more quickly, right?!) So I was all settled with my water, and towel ready to catch up on Grey’s Anatomy, when I realized I forgot an important step. You can’t just download it to your laptop, you have to then remember to update your iPod with your new purchases! Oops. So, there I was pedaling away, as I scrolled through my contents to see what I hadn’t seen yet. And I had two episodes of The Office!! Yay. Except it took me only about 30 seconds to realize why I hadn’t planned on watching The Office at the gym… because it’s embarrassing to laugh out loud at the gym! I have encountered this problem watching comedies on airplanes too – unless everyone’s laughing at the same movie, I’m very self-conscious about laughing or even snickering in a public place like that. I don’t know why – is that weird? And the way The Office is written, and Steve Carrell is so hilarious, it always catches me off guard, and I can’t help but laugh. However, the time went by so quickly because I was completely distracted by the show, that I didn’t even notice how hard I was working out, so that was really good! But, I was covering my mouth with my hand most of the time, to try and prevent the odd looks I would get when I couldn’t contain the giggles.
As a small aside, I was very frustrated by the art/craft supply store I went
to for the crafts I made for Easter. Martha Stewart’s website had the cutest suggestions that totally inspired me to be all ‘crafty’ last weekend. So I was very disappointed by the very unhelpful people, and not super selection. They didn't have crepe paper so I had to make do with construction. As I was asking one of the above- mentioned contrary employees where there might be crepe paper another woman approached me and said “Were you watching yesterday too?”. Confused, I responded with “excuse me?” and she clarified “Martha Stewart’s egg baskets!” and she held up her list. I looked in my hand and we had the exact same list of supplies! I laughed and said “I didn’t see the show, but I was looking on her website.” And we compared notes, and she explained to me how to do one part of the egg dying that I wasn’t sure about, because she got to watch Martha do it. What are the odds of bumping into someone else doing the exact same project as you?! We also shared frustrations with how poorly stocked the store was, though I did see stuff in the floral section which inspired me to make a little spring wreath of dried flowers and then hung two finished eggs from. Yup - I am all Martha-ed out. Even though Easter is over, it is still fun to see all the Spring stuff around the house.
ALLISON,I LOVE THE SHOW.KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.I WILL CONTINUE TO WATCH THE SHOW AS LONG AS YOUR SAMMIE.
Hey Ali! Sup lady? Good idea about working out and watching shows. Maybe I should get an IPOD. Yes I know I am behind in times. LOL But I like to let the things settle a bit before getting a new toy. Like to wait for all the "kinks" to be worked out if you know what I mean. For example when digital cameras came out they didn't last long battery wise and you couldn't see the screen when you were in the sun. Now it works much better and I now have one!
I love The Office!!! That is one of my favorite shows. Been watching the actor that plays the boss for a long time. In fact wasn't he on the Jon Stewart show way back? Anyway, point being I dig that actor and I love his sence of timing and delivery. The actor that plays Dewight is priceless. What a catch he was for the show...and who thinks of writing characters like that??? LMAO! I also love the show My Name Is Earl. You watch that one? Those are two of my must see shows. Don't even get me started on Dancing With The Starts...love it!
Always great to here from you!
Your Friend,
Shakabigfoot

Hi Ali~ just wanted to stop in and let you know that you are my all time favorite actress! (Topping out even the biggest of movie stars). You are beautiful and funny and sincere, and by far the best at what you do! After learning that you are a reader, I thought that I might suggest to you (if you haven't discovered him already) Mitch Albohm. He is a sports writer for the Detroit Free Press, and also a gifted author. I have recently finished his The Five People You Meet in Heaven, and Tuesdays with Morrie. Both were phenominal!! I thought you might enjoy them as well. At any rate, take care always, and continue to be the best! Best wishes always!

Hi Ali. First time reader of your blog (i usually shy away from these). I'm from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. I've been a Days fan since around 92/93 when my friend (another dude) got me into it. 14 years later and I still get upset when I miss an episode. Thanks for all the wonderful story lines and fantastic acting in all these years. I hope all the rumours of NBC dropping Days stay as that. Just rumours.
I just had a few things to ask/say. First, I was watching TV last night and flipped to Ed's night party. It just so happens that you were in a small portion of the episode with that woman who played the swamp girl (forgive me i forget her name). it was very funny watching you talk to a green sock.
also, don't be afraid to laugh in public. i know you're a celebrity and all but don't ever worry about what other people think of you. it'll drive you bonkers.
lastly, you mentioned some books that you're reading. i strongly urge you to pick up GOOD OMENS by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. it's a fantastic novel about Armageddon and the Anti-Christ. Trust me it's great! Anywho, take care and have a lovely life.

I love watching Days. I have been watching it since Patch & Kayla got together. I got hooked and have watched it ever since. I love watching you and E.J. He's evil and should not be liked, but I can't help thinking he's good looking and I actually felt sorry for him when you supposedly burned him.

What to say that your a great actress. that you and Lucas make a great couple and will make a great family once you guy are married.
I work in Scranton...home of "the office"
Dear Alison,
Kudos on your acting performance! You can make your audience adore you when Sami is "good" and can make your audience hate you when she is "bad". With my busy schedule, I make sure to set my DVR for "Days Of Our Lives" routinely for Sami’s story. I am still watching the show because of the character you portrays. With Kate always get in the way with Sami and Lucas; I would not be surprised if E.J. is Sami’s true love after all. It seems like Sami is the only one that can turn him around to become "good" again. Just love the story plot it resembles "Gone With The Wind". E.J.'s character resembles Rhett Butler and Sami's character resembles Scarlett O'Hara in the 21st century. E.J.s character resembles Rhett Butler, the handsome, yet shrew business man, with too many women. Sami’s character resembles Scarlett O’Hara, who initially was selfish, shrewd and vein, but changes as she matures. In the sequel of "Gone With The Wind", Rhett no longer was shrewd as Scarlett love had helped him to change. I feel that the only way E.J. character become “good” again is for Sami to show how she has always love him. You can tell I am a romantic, but what is life without romance. I am not that old will be turning 34 in July. I have been watching your character since I was 16 years old. Kudos again…

Oops a typo...I have been watching "Day's Of Our Lives" since I was 16. The other story line I also remembered was when Kayla and Steve dancing with the famous song "Lady in Red". They did not have Stephanie either back then. I am now a mother with two kids with successful nursing career. I wonder if Sami’s character can contribute to the nursing profession and enlisting herself in a nursing program. Since Sami’s aunt Kayla have completed a medical school and become a doctor. This would be a public campaign to increase nursing enrollment. Just an idea…

Hey Ali ~ so THIS is where you've been hiding out! I've been keeping up with your blog on alisonsweeney.com, and haven't seen anything new in a while.
Anyway, so first - um- no. It's not weird that you're uncomfortable laughing solo in public. I'm with ya on that! I usually end up totally gaffawing if comedy takes me by surprise.
Second, hooray on being crafty! I'm SO excited that Martha Stewart now has her own scrapbook line at Michael's! I REALLY hope that I don't go to the same arts and crafts store as you do cuz I need my arts and crafts stores to be in full abundance of supplies! ;-)
Happy Spring!
Charlene :-)
