Happy Halloween

Wow. I am EXHAUSTED. Ben had so many Halloween plans. I was up super early shooting a challenge for Biggest Loser 7, but luckily that meant I was done early, with plenty of free time to celebrate Halloween as a family. Our neighborhood planned a costume parade this afternoon. It was SO CUTE. Ben was an astronaut. And he decided that Jorge (our Chihuahua rescue) was his Astronaut Dog. So, all dressed up in his astronaut costume, we joined the kids gathering for the parade. It was such a fun parade, and there were so many adorable kids in cute costumes.

Afterwards, we went to a friend of Ben’s house to trick or treat. It was so cute to see Ben and his classmates trick-or-treating together. We walked up and down the street – he got a lot of compliments on the astronaut costume. The little girl with him was dressed as Hannah Montana, which was hilarious. She was so cute and I was that crazy mom following them like paparazzi taking pictures of them holding hands, trick-or-treating, and in front of great decorations. Man – I thought I was into Halloween? We were in a neighborhood that was Halloween-ed out! We were teasing the parents that they must have put it in the escrow agreement when they bought on that street that you have to spend x on your decorations. The whole street gets into it, and the kids LOVED IT.
We were so exhausted when we got home, that we got home and all just relaxed and watched Ratatouille and Ben loved opening the door for trick-or-treaters. I bought a whole bunch of those mini Play-Doh’s to give away instead of candy for the little kids. Obviously, I got the idea from the promo Ben and I did for Biggest Loser last week. But I thought it was a great suggestion, but I will admit, I was a little nervous that kids would scoff at getting us not having candy. But seriously? It was a big hit! Even the older kids said “Play-doh??!! Cool! “ and the girls were very particular about which color they wanted… it totally worked out. We also doled out the candy that Ben got from his trick-or-treating. Is that so mean?! We let him pick his favorite piece to eat after his dinner, and we gave the rest away. When Dave was growing up his dad would “do magic” with his candy, and at midnight all their candy would disappear… so, along those lines… especially at this age, we were able to distract Ben from the rest of the candy, and abracadabra, it’s gone. We’ll see how that goes over tomorrow.
Speaking of tomorrow – it’s the big “Day of Days” event at Universal City Walk. It should be so much fun. I can’t wait to see all the fans, answer questions, hang out with the cast. It’s hard, with my schedule to visit with my friends on set anymore… so it’ll be so great to spend the day together.

P.S… in reference to one fans post about the upcoming storylines… I just want to say that while actors all may have a feeling, or a hint, or a hope that the storyline will go a certain way… we really don’t know what’s going to happen down the line. It’s like anything – I’ll believe it when I see it. So I hear rumors all the time too. The reason I hesitate to speculate on upcoming story or give away spoilers to the fans, is that nothing is for sure until it’s in script form, under your dressing room door. So, I would take anything you hear with a grain of salt. :)

Just discovered your blog earlier this week, I have been reading through some of your older ones. It is refreshing to see how normal you are, I love the ones where you have told us what you are cooking and what you are buying. my parents have done the same thing with me by only giving us one or two pieces candy and then buying us a toy and having it wait for us at home. I don't really have much of a love towards candy but i love getting all dressed up and going treat or treating. There still doing that with me and my bro but are toys have gotton more advance:)

Hi Ali! Happy Hallowe'en! Thanks for your blog! Ben's costume sounds cute, and it's adorable you dressed up your dog as well. I love your idea for giving play doh for Hallowe'en instead of candy. I teach 5-year-olds, so I gave them pumpkin lights for safety and pencils as gifts. They really liked them! Have fun at the Day of Days.

Happy Halloween Ali. Ben was an astronaut? Super cute. Never heard of giving away play-dough. Now that is a new suggestion that is definitely worth trying out. Sounds like you and Ben had a lot of Halloween fun. Too bad I live in the wrong country to attend the "Day of Days" event but I hope you have a really good time catching up with your castmates as well as the fans. Hopefully not too many crazies show up. Looking forward to seeing a hopeful EJami reunion.

I love Halloween (next to Christmas that is!) I'm in college and we still love to dress up and go out, my roomates and I were superheros this year :0) It sounds like Ben had a good Halloween and his costume sounds adorable, you should post a picture (since you said you took so many lol) Wish I could have flown out for "Day of Days" but school calls. Maybe next year?!?!

Well, it sounds like you all had a lot of fun for Halloween! That's great! And what a cute costume for Ben! "The Astronaut and Hannah Montana photographed together by Paparazzi Alison Sweeney! Oh, its just Ben's mom running around taking pictures!" LOL! That's so cute Ali you running around snapping pics like that!

Well, I LOVE SAMI & EJAMI!! HUGE EJAMI FAN!!! So, I can't wait to see them!!! You and James are amazing together! I love it! You two are totally the new number one couple in daytime and the reason I watch! And I can't wait to see where the story takes you guys and how it brings you two back together again! Because its a soap opera, so you two, eventually, have to be brought back together somehow and your character is pregnant with his baby! I just love it! And I can't wait to see EJAMI again!! I LOVE the whole Brady-DiMera love story between you two! I've always wanted your character apart of the DiMera family because she's so fiesty and spunky and can do a lot with all that love and support from EJ and the power Sami will have as the new head of the DiMera family with EJ! It's going to rock to see your character ruling Salem and people afraid to cross you & EJ! And then to see the two of you together and with your children and trying to protect them! Love how EJAMI is such a Power Couple!

Hi Ali! I went to the Day of Days event today and had a blast! I was hoping to get to see you but the lineups were crazy!!! and By the time I got James Scott's Autograph...it was the end! My mom used to regift most of my candy too, but moreso because I was allergic to so much of it. I never really minded. The dentist who lived down the street was my favorite house to go to. Why? Because he gave out toothbrushes lol. I would have loved getting playdoh. My mom used to make me home made playdoh instead of ever buying it, so to get the real kind would have rocked.
Sorry I didn't make it to Day of Days. The timing was all wrong. I would have loved to have met you and Bryan D. LUMI rocks & rules the world!

Hi Ali,

Ben's costume sounds really cute and dressing up the dog sounds cute to. I'm a preschool teacher I teach 2 1/2 - 3 year old kids. At the school I work at we don't do Halloween but the kids come dressed up anyway. When I got home I got dressed up in my costume. I was Dorthy and my little yorkie was toe toe. Growing up my mom would inspect our candy and give m brother and I an x amount each and give the rest of our candy to our dad. Sorry I didn't get a chance to come to the day of days yesterday. I would have loved it. I've been watching Dyas of our Lives since I was 15. So I've been a huge fan for almost 15 years. Would there ever do a Day of Days in San Diego? Hope all is well.

My daughter is autistic...and on a gluten casein free diet... so the majority of candy she gets, she cannot eat anyway: ( She is probably healthier for it though. We usually end up getting what we call "Jennifer safe" candy at the local Trader Joe's, so she ends up not missing out on treats.

Anyway, I usually end up taking what she cannot have to work, and putting it out in the break room for whomever wants it.

Ali, I feel so guilty. Not only did I buy 8 bags of candy we only had a handful of trick or treaters so not only did I give out a half dozen pieces of candy to each one, I handed over the big bowl of candy to my 17 year old son. Thankfully, my son does not just eat all he can and be sick after doing so. He paces himself pretty good and he has never been one to take more than one piece of anything offered to him. I think some kids are just either born with some moderation wired into them, or they are born with the need to get all the can and spoil themselves to do so. But I commend you on being so pro-actively health conscious to all those little treat or treaters. It seems to me nowadays, like in the last 10 years parents have become so ulta-responsible (albeit almost controling) with their kids welfare. I wish I had been influenced by some of the good intentions that I have read about ... like deceptively delicious foods and etc.. Knowledge is power and the more you arm yourself with knowledge the more beneficial to the child, I think.
As far as Days go...I'm beginning to take the whole show with a grain of salt. I used to be a huge fan, I still tune in, but I have to say the "office politics" that has plagued Days I think has bled into what is on screen and it's sad. Days has so much potential to be something so great. And yes, EJ and Sami being together romantically is definitely what I was lured back to Days for, so the constant see-saw between this couple has really shook my interest for the show itself loose although I tune in whenever I hear a good EJ and Sami sceen is coming up.
I apologize if I sound negative. With Dena I'm much more optimistic, but I feel she needs a little pat on the back here and there.
Well, we'll see what happens from here. I think you look cute pregnant by the way. You're freckles have come out more, and truly you are an adorable sweet girl who I love to watch.

wish i could have come to cali but i live up in oregon and have a special needs child my son is autistic, and he takes up alot of my time but hes a great kid.

Hi Ali, thanks for sharing Ben's Halloween with us all. It's so cute how you describe the fun time you guys had. The astronaut costume sounds so cute too. You're doing great work on both shows. Closed to many lines. Unable to meet you up close and in person.I did see the one fan give you the beautiful pink an white baby blanket that was really sweet. You looked really cute at the event. I'm a big fan of Days and Biggest Loser.
I wonder if you read your comments? In case you do, I just wanted to say that we had a great Halloween as well. My 4 year old was Spiderman and my youngest was a lion (he's 2). It was our first trick or treat as we adopted our boys from Russia this past March. It was so fun seeing all of the kids dressed up and my boys had so much fun knocking on doors and saying "trick or treat!". We gave out play-dough too as we are not big candy fans. We let our boys have a few pieces but it also "magically disappeared" in the morning.;)

I have been a huge fan of days for years!! Which is strange because I'm only 23 but I love the show... I can't wait till EJ finds out about the baby my aunt and I call each other everyday to talk about whats going to happen next. I think thats the great thing about Days you never know. Congrats! on the new baby!!!
I had a question Do you know if the cast of Days will ever come to the Univeral Studios in Orlando. FL because I am dying to meet you guys and I live in Florida. If you have any info please let me know.

I was SO upset I couldn't attend the "Day of Days" this year. I attended every other fan festival Days of Our Lives has had since 2003... I hope that you guys do this again next year!
