Creative Process...Show Genesis

I had what's called a "development deal" with NBC to come up with an idea for a show. They encouraged me to write about my own life. That's how this idea came about. Alec is not quite based on a real person. His character is more "corporate" than anybody I ever knew.

Hey, how about something funny like a gay stuff thingy or something...and like...so there!

Really? Jimmy Fallon...he is so NOT funny! It would be 500 takes before he got his lines down without laughing. Now Amy Poehler wold make an AWESOME guest star. She should be a love interest of Jack's that keeps hitting on Liz when Jack isn't around. Kenneth gets caught in this somehow..TINA YOU ARE AWESOME.

Jimmy should guest as an inept p.a. who screws up coffee but has some boyish charm. Your character could get an embarassing crush on him, making her more human and likeable. Ripe for all sorts of wonderful moments and playing off the sort of chemistry you two developed at SNL. Throw Alec Baldwin in (in love with you) and you could have a love triangle that has a satisfying guest spot ending. Alec Baldwin will try to fire Jimmy but since he's a PA and has no actual duties, he can't fire him so he has to promote him to fire him, or something. It's tidy.

Great show, thanks and good luck with it.
I think Jimmy and other stars should play no-name characters like the pizza guy or taxi driver. It could be a running gag like the Murphy Brown secretary gag.

Good luck.

i think jimmy should play ur b/f cuz u guys look great on tv together and he is very cute.lol

Jimmy should play Josh's brother, a popular comedic actor who makes Josh feel bad because he's on the lowly "Girlie Show". It inspires Josh to write a hilarious sketch based on his brother's annoying personality that earns him rave reviews.

Jimmy should play an old cast mate from Second City or a High School friend from upper darby.

tina, love all your work, your time on snl is an era all to itself. was heartbroken when i heard you left, but am so excited for this show! any chance of you writing in a cameo for your nbc companion Conan O'Brien??

Tina, greetings from Charlottesville, VA. Just watched the show and really liked it. How about Jimmy playing a love interest of yours? Best wishes for success, Jay

With the intelligent writing and brilliant acting available on this show can you throw in some of the political wit from Weekend Update (miss you there).

nbc is lucky to have you. mean girls was hilarious. it crossed all gender and age barriers for humor. i watch it with my teenage niece and nephews.

I LOVED Alex Baldwin's character. The last time he made me laugh so hard was when he talked about his Schwetty Balls on NPR! Great writing, great characters. The show should be a winner!

Alec should use the line "Thanks for your input". It's corporate for F' off dumb ass.

I can't picture you getting drunk and doing *that* dance in real life, LOL!

i'd really like to say alot but i'm unfortunately a'kin,
to cave man lawyer, argh computers, fangled machines

how did you get jane to do the show? she is goofy funny.

Jimmy should play your little brother from South Dakota who works @ the Corn Palace. His first trip to the big city.

Tina, you are such an inspiration to me - SNL was lucky to score you - look at you now. The show is hillarious. vicki

Did you own a "Dark Sinsations" T-shirt prior to the show?

Shoot, that show depicted my life almost to a T. You beat me to it Tina Fey... you beat me to it..

haha

Good move on NBC's part - your a talent! Had me laughing out loud. One question I have always wondered about - how did you get the scar on your cheek? I hope it wasn't too painful. Thanks for the laughs.

will you have any nude scenes????

Tina et al,
FUNNY, will make sure to keep watching. Congrats!

FANTASTIC! Genius, layered writing---believable, quirky characters portrayed by talented actors. A collabrative beautification of narrative among a wasteland of reality drone-like television and "formula" situation comedy. 30 Rock is is indeed a treat and the much needed breath of fresh creativity that network television so desperately needed to find again. Best of luck to you all! jenji, ny

I worked for an ex-GE executive for 2 years; you nailed "corporate guy" to a tee. Love the "hands on" stuff. Right on the money, and funny...

I'm curious about the comment about Rachel.... would they really do that? I think she's attractive. More importantly, she's really funny.

Alec should use the line "thinks for your input". It's corporate for F' off dumb ass.

So the show wasn't your idea?

now that you have a show, do you ever find yourself thinking up ideas for different shows?

Would you ever consider joining Amy Poehler for ASSSCAT 3000 on Sundays? My friends and I would love it!

I've always been interested in behind-the-scenes SNL stuff, so this concept is really appealing to me!

Hard to believe Alec's character is not based on anyone (i.e., LORNE!)

Tina, you're an inspiration to women.

Alec is great, he is the hottest baldwin and he has dry wit. your show made me laugh out loud.

I was so amazed at the different spin you had versus Studio 60!

I must admit that losing you from SNL was my saddest day ever:)

But great to see you working through a great new comedy!

Tina, I think Jimmy Fallon should make a brief appearance as Alec Balwin's boss!

Would you ever consider joining Amy Poehler at for ASSSCAT 3000 on Sundays? My friends and I would love it!

Hey now Tina!!!

You're the cutest girl I've ever SEEN! Good luck with the show.

When are you going on the Howard Stern Show??

Love You,
Jeff

Are you ok with the GE product placements (Trivection Oven)? Seems a bit schmarmy... thought it was a joke until the trivection oven commmercial.

Jimmy could play the pitiful ex-boyfriend of Tina's character. You know, lives with his mom, worships Tina even though they only dated for 3 weeks.

TINA YOU ARE AWESOME...and jimmy should be your boyfriend or something....hahaha. i can't stop thinking about those weekend update days....

I heard Rachel Dratch got replaced by Jane Krakowski.. so I'm glad to see they're both there. The show's awesome, and i was just wondering if there's anything cool going on for sweeps! thanks a lot

Hi Tina. Great show. Cast, writing was great. You make me feel like becoming a writer! Best of luck and I WILL BE WACHING....justin in nyc...

Congrats on the new show it was amazing and funny as hell cant wait till next Wednesday. I m a huge fan of yours Tina and i already miss you on SNL

Talk about crazy cat ladies. What is their secret?

I think it really works Tina! Great job...The only thing I might add to the show, is more one on one interaction with alec, I think you and he have great chemistry and would really come up with some comedic tension!

I have had a bad few weeks, so laughing out loud feels good. What would you recommend to a wife, mother in syracuse, ny that loves what you do? - Vicki

Very funny, and look somebody was dancing! What direction will the show take, are you and Tracy going to continue bonding?

Please hire some comedy writers, the show sucks for lack of a better word.

Shoot, the similarities between that show and my life are endless... you beat me to it Tina Fey... you beat me to it...

Could you ever get out of doing a show with the constrained narrative of a sitcom?

Evanston Represent!

Talk about crazy cat ladies. What is their secret?

It is hard to keep up with all of these comments - would love to see my life on TV LOLOLOLOL

Is SNL hiring? I need a job. Can I use you as a reference?

I have to say, I love that you keep your personal life personal, I think it makes you more real. I almost died laughing when the pic you "sent in" to Weekend Update after you had your baby was a stick figure. :) Do you have problems with paparazi or anything?

Jim Fallon should replace the page, or fill in for him.

Your welcome about MTM.

Tina,

I loved it when Jay Leno was
interviewing you recently.
He asked your daughter's name
and you said (with a straight
face), "its Pancake Donkey Hat." That was so off the wall I still get a chuckle over it.

Will you use the web to show the finished Girlie Show sketches?

My own life would be... interesting as a show. Hmm.

Loved the show! Will it eve delve into the characters personal lives?

Tina Fey, you are a marvel! You are surely a stroke of Hell upon me! ;-)

Katrina Bowden is phenomenal! lets talk about her!

Is it true that Rachel was replaced by Jane because they thought Jane was cuter? That's whack, yo.

I have to say, I love that you keep your personal life personal, I think it makes you more real. I almost died laughing when the pic you "sent in" to Weekend Update after you had your baby was a stick figure. :) Do you have problems with paparazi or anything?

Absolutely GREAT show!!

Best new show of the season. Scratch that- best show of the season PERIOD.

We miss you on SNL but cannot tell you how happy we are that you are branching out and doing this. Quality TV returns and you're bringing it. Thanks for having the courage.

Tracy, Rachael and Jane were excellent. Great casting there. The chemistry is formidable.

I saw below someone calling you the new Mary Tyler Moore. Sorry to disagree, but I think they were shooting too low. I would put you more in the class of Lucille Ball. Like Lucy, you're way ahead of your time. Also like Lucy, you're smart, quick and extremely talented. Got a big head yet?

:>)

I hope the suits at NBC let you roll for a full season with this. I don't yet know what tonight's numbers are but I'm guessing there's a few bottles of Dom being opened at your little party.

This blog thing- great idea.

All the best, Tina. You deserve it.

How does Tracey Jordan, a bad-ass brother, feel about joining a show called "The Girlie Show?" Do you touch on that at all?

ok...the show was great. loved it. but was it filmed on the set of snl???? it looks really familiar. JIMMY SHOULD PLAY YOUR NEW LOVE INTEREST. haha :)

what went thru ur mind when you watch ur show tonight airing for the first time?

128.....lol yeah ok

Hi Tina! I really liked the show. I know this is kind of lame, but I made these a while back, and I hope you get to see them. http://tinafeywwfchampion.ytmnd.com/ http://tinafeyface.ytmnd.com/ Thanks, and good luck with the show!

Tina my love,
How many episodes have already been filmed?
How do you come up with story lines and such?

Katrina Bowden is phenomenal! lets talk about her!

I think his character is a complete jerk, but that's the point, no? It kind of bugs me though.

i loved that his qualification for being in charge of a tv show was that he invented an oven

i love kenneth! are we going to get to see more of him?

Hey! What has been your favorite part of the show so far?

If you wanted to really reflect Lorne, you would get Dr. Evil.. riiiight?

Could you come to Allegheny College in Meadville, PA and talk to our TV studies class? We are HUGE fans of you here! We have Lloyd Segan co-teaching our class, in case you happen to know him :)

Here's a question... how are you keeping up with all of these comments? Honestly, it's insane. My kudos to you for managing this well.

alec is a genious.

That's so cool! Was it hard to write such a great show?

What would you reccomend a high school student do to do things you have done on SNL and now with this show? Can you give me any advice?
