If you live in New York or Chicago or Los Angeles or Toronto...I would say study improvisation with the UCB or Second City or the ImprovOlympic. If you're only a writer, make sure you get your writing in front of an audience...any audience for feedback. That's the only way to know if something is funny or not. Even if it's three people had a coffee house.

Hey Tina. It's been my life long dream to be a factory worker. And you'll be happy to know I have achieved this. But my second life dream is to write for a television comedy. I have no experience and very little talent. But I can bring some beers and an old Super Nintendo. What do you say...do you have a spot for me?
I was really hoping that your advice would sound a little more like this...."just be really lazy and a good writing job will fall right into your lap"
I live in a small town called Hudson, Massachusetts, near New York City. Since I was a little boy growing up on an Air Force Base near Austin, Texas, I always known what path I would take, and that is Screenwriting. I blame it on George Lucas' "Star Wars" film that set the course for my life. I have been through so much loss and joy, that is helping me write good stories.
I work in retail at the moment and when it is slow, I get so many ideas rushing in my head.
Why did you want to be a Writer and what advice do you have for me to succeed as a Writer? Thanks in advance and take care!
i am very happy to see you on tv more but do you have to take all the talent with you when you left snl?

Wow...that actor did a very very good Ray Romano impression - I laughed for like an hour about that
How do you like writing for a recurring cast as opposed to sketch comedy and motion picture screenplays?
Aspriing comic/actor. Is there any advice you can give to someone who would love a crack at joining the cast of SNL, or any similar show?
I've done work at UCB, and the Magnet here in NY and i know there is always more to learn. It just feels like a never-ending battle
Thanks
Does a 7 year old neighbor and a cat count as an audience? No, but it's a long shot, but I love to write and it sounds like a blast to work there. Is it? Do you just goof around until you get ideas? Annnd, are you going to be in NYC Nov. 11th. I'm going that day and I would die of fangirlishness if I saw you.
When you started out your career, did you think that you would be as successful are you are now?
a large class of about 80 students read my stuff. I got laughs. It's pretty great. As for who jimmy fallon should play..I think he should be your alcoholic brother.
it was horrible last week b/c dane cook brought his own writers in and didn't let anyone else do anything
that monologue was horrendous.
Yeah, I need to move to a less-tropical more-populated town. BUT I CAN'T at least for four more years. Or as Arnold Swarchjbnsdvpi would put it, "FOUR MORE YEAAS" orsomething.
you are a very talented writer... you should give comedy a try!
seriously, you are funny, seriously
Tina - really enjoyed the show. Also have to tell you that you're so attractive. Keep up the good work.
Jimmy needs to be a funky record producer so that he can record Tracy's loverly funky voice
Thanks a lot for the tips! Was SNL your first writing gig, or did you do other things before it?
i love how all of alec baldwin's comedic roles are these extremely dry characters who get away with saying the most ridiculously outrageous things. he's so funny in this role
Thanks, Tina. Hopefully we can work together someday. But seriously folks, you are the awesomenest.

For the record, I *killed* those three in that coffee house.
TIna,
why do you think SNL has gotten Unfunny? Last weekend it was horrible
thanks for the tips tina, you rock!
thank you!
I'm only 15 and stuck in Central Pennsylvania, so, it's a bit difficult to get myself "out there" out there, but thanks for the advise! I'm in a creative writing class and a few years ago with my friends I wrote / directed / costarred in "Sunday Afternoon Live" that I was going to send to you with a long overdue letter, but, what can I say? It's been 3 years now and I'm a huge procrastinator.
COme to the Upright Citizen's Theatre- Show us how it's done!
People say that I should be on tv, because of the way that I tell my hellacious stories of everday living. Like I said, I pulled over in a copshop to sleep off a drunk driving. That was genius. Can we send you things like this for show ideas. Great luck to you and your success! Val
What about aspiring PA's? Can I get you some coffee Mrs. Fey?
TF: creative Idea- While listening to your show I was also listening to the iTunes station "Dub Beautiful Collective" listed under Ambient, playing "Waveland-may 30-fullset" in the background. (Strangely I don't watch tv, but I do listen to tv & internet Radio.) At first I thought it was an amazing concept for your show, then realized I just had the station playing in the background. I also think the conversation between the characters was stronger than the few fake skits.
Good luck.
I don't live in Toronto, but I am a writer! My professors seem to enjoy my writing, but I still am skeptical and critical of i.
SECOND CITY NEW YORK!!! YEAH BABY
Thanks for the tips! Unfortunately, I'm not in any of those places, but I'm near DC. We have WIT there, so I can at least study improv.
thanks for answering the aspiring writers question. you're an inspiration with your intelligence, wit and beauty. thank you!
Hey Tina what are some of your favorite shows to watch?
Dang it! Lexington, KY isn't New York, Chicago, OR Los Angeles! ...It's not Toronto, is it? ...Nope, it's not that, either. But we do have a number of coffee shops downtown, so I'll keep your advice in mind. Thanks so much! ^_^

As an inspiring actor, I'd just like to know, What is it really like to be working alongside Alec Baldwin?
what do you find the hardest to write: movies, a tv show, or sketches?
Who are some of your favorite Screen Writers?
I'm going to the Second City in Chicago soon and am planning to take classes either at UCB or Second City in the Summer cuz if they cranked you out my god I need to go there cuz i wanna be as great as you are
I'm in New Orleans... sorry! But thanks for the advice!
Thanks for the advice! :)
Loved the show...will it ever delve into the characters personal lives?
Is the Old Town Ale House your favorite?
how about 5 drunk people in my living room does that count?
Hi Tina! I really liked the show. I know this is kind of lame, but I made these a while back, and I hope you get to see them. http://tinafeywwfchampion.ytmnd.com/ http://tinafeyface.ytmnd.com/ Thanks, and good luck with the show!
could you come to Allegheny College in Meadville, PA to talk to our TV studies class? Our co-professor is Lloyd Segan, in case you know him. :)
Thanks for the great tips!
